Hi, I'm Jessie

what type of traveler are you

I started traveling solo when I was 20 years old, and began documenting my trips on jessie on a journey in 2011.

Today this blog is my full-time business, and 99% of the stories you'll read on here are about my adventures exploring the world on my own (even though I'm engaged!) in search of offbeat sites, active adventures, and sustainable experiences.

A little bit about me:

  • Some of my favorite travel destinations include Latvia, Slovenia, Thailand, Guadeloupe, Bhutan, Argentina, and Spain.
  • I've been featured in top publications like USA TODAY, CNN, Business Insider, and AOL Travel, as well as a web series with Bravo and a featured guest on BBC Travel (TV).
  • I've spoken at notable travel conferences like the TBEX, TravelCon, the Women In Travel Summit, Women's Travel Fest, the New York Travel Festival, iSugar Live, Find Spark, and more!
  • I truly believe that with the right mindset you can achieve absolutely anything. Trust me when I say taking my first solo trip was terrifying and loved ones tried to talk me out of it. But I wanted it so badly I didn't allow myself to make excuses. Instead, I shut out social influences and listened to my own voice. The time to travel is *now* 🙂

Making Sense of Food Labels

I spent five years teaching GED classes to youth detainees at a Correctional Facility before becoming a Health Educator for the Health Department. Currently, I am a part-time tutor.

Recognizing that students of the same age may not be at the same level, it's imperative to be creative with lesson plans. I began teaching before computers were commonplace in schools. In my opinion, some essays should still be handwritten, as the prevalence of artificial intelligence may result in the loss of proficiency in penmanship, spelling, and grammar without its aid. Most importantly I like to make learning FUN.
