A Year-End Medley

Rumah produksi CJ Entertainment bekerja sama dengan TVING resmi merilis film Korea yang berjudul  A Year-End Medley mulai 29 Desember 2021.

Film ini tayang sebagai bagian dari program perayaan Tahun Baru dan foto resmi dirilis pada awal bulan April 2021. Selain itu, film ini juga dibintangi oleh beberapa aktor dan aktris ternama asal Korea.

Ada Han Ji Min  yang sebelumnya sukses membintangi film berjudul  Josee (2020) dan Kim Young Kwang  yang pernah berperan dalam film berjudul Mission: Possible (2021).

Aktris Go Sung Hee juga tampil dalam film ini setelah sukses berperan di film Trade Your Love (2019). Dia beradu akting dengan aktor Lee Dong Wook yang sebelumnya sukses dengan film  The Beauty Inside (2015).

Selain itu, Won Jin Ah juga tampil dalam film ini bersama dengan Kang Ha Neul. Sebelumnya Won Jin Ah sukses dengan film berjudul  On the Line (2021) dan Kang Ha Neul dengan film yang berjudul  Waiting For Rain (2021).

Pemeran utama lainnya juga diperankan oleh Im Yoon Ah , Jung Jin Young, Seo Kang Joon, dan Lee Kwang Soo. Selain itu, ada juga Lee Jin Wook, Jo Joon Young, dan Won Ji An.

Sebelumnya, Im Yoon Ah sukses dengan film berjudul Miracle: Letters to the President (2021) sementara Jung Jin Young sebelumnya pernah membintangi film yang berjudul  The Gossip (2021).

Seo Kang Joon pernah berperan dalam film berjudul Summer Snow (2015), Lee Kwang Soo pernah tampil di peran dalam  Sinkhole (2021), dan Lee Jin Wook sebelumnya membintangi film berjudul  High Society (2018).

Jo Joon Young dan Won Ji An baru pertama kali beperan dalam sebuah film. Sebelumnya Jo Joon Young pernah tampil di drama berjudul Live On  (2020) sementara Won Ji An pernah tampil di drama berjudul   D.P. (2021).

SINOPSIS A YEAR-END MEDLEY

Drama ini mengisahkan mengenai kehidupan yang ada di sebuah hotel terknal bernama Hotel Emros di salah satu kota di Korea Selatan.

Ada beberapa pegawai hotel mulai dari manajer yang sangat tenang dan profesional yang selalu memastikan keadaan hotelnya menjadi kondusif.

Selain itu, ada juga seorang pria yang menempati posisi CEO dari hotel yang memiliki obsesi yang aneh terhadap angka genap.

Mereka kemudian dihadapkan pada kedatangan beberapa tamu yang bervariasi setiap minggu dengan tujuan yang berbeda satu sama lain.

Ada tamu hotel yang sudah memiliki pekerjaan dan ada pula yang datang untuk berlibur setelah menyelesaikan ujian di sekolah.

Selain itu, ada juga beberapa tamu hotel yang datang dengan tujuan untuk menemukan cinta sejati yang lama ditunggu.

"A Year-End Medley" Previews Interesting Ties Between The Characters

Upcoming film “A Year-End Medley” has released a relationship chart of the characters!

“A Year-End Medley” centers around the people who come to Hotel Emross, each with stories of their own, and build new relationships. The film boasts a star-studded cast including Han Ji Min , Lee Dong Wook , Kang Ha Neul , Girls’ Generation’s YoonA , Won Jin Ah , Seo Kang Joon , Lee Kwang Soo , Kim Young Kwang ,  Go Sung Hee , Lee Jin Wook , Lee Kyu Hyung , Jo Joon Young , Won Ji An , Lee Hye Young , and Jung Jin Young .

The production team recently released a relationship chart centered around the members of the Hotel Emross team and the guests, as well as their relationships with the radio team and the high school students.

The chart points out the relationship between hotel manager So Jin (Han Ji Min) and her male friend Seung Hyo (Kim Young Kwang), whom she’s had a crush on for 15 years. On the other hand, Seung Hyo is engaged to Young Joo (Go Sung Hee), a pianist. So Jin also gives advice to plastic surgeon Jin Ho (Lee Jin Wook), who comes to Hotel Emross every Saturday to meet with prospective marriage partners.

The chart also raises anticipation for the romance story between the young and capable hotel CEO Yong Jin (Lee Dong Wook) and housekeeper Lee Young (Won Jin Ah), who dreams of being a musical actress. The relationship chart also points out the relationship between overseas businesswoman Catherine (Lee Hye Young), who has returned to Korea for her daughter’s wedding, and Sang Gyu (Jung Jin Young), who is Catherine’s first love and the hotel’s doorman. The romance between problematic hotel guest Jae Yong (Kang Ha Neul) and hotelier Soo Yeon (YoonA) is also highly anticipated.

On the other hand, Sang Hoon (Lee Kwang Soo) is the manager of singer Lee Kang (Seo Kang Joon), an unknown artist who finally hits it big as a singer and popular DJ. Lee Kang is planning to hold a year-end concert at Hotel Emross as the contract with Sang Hoon is about to end.

Catherine is revealed to be Young Joo’s mother, raising questions about how the overall story will turn out within the hotel. Se Jik (Jo Joon Young) is a swimmer at his high school swim team. He is also the younger brother of So Jin. He is secretly in love with Ah Young (Won Ji An), a popular student, who is also a talented figure skater at the same school.

The holidays may be over, but A Year-End Medley is sure to bring back the Christmas spirit with a light-hearted, varied take on overcoming difficulties in relationships with others and oneself. The film follows multiple characters played by a star-studded cast–including Lee Dong-wook , Kang Ha-neul , Han Ji-min , and Yoona –as their stories become intertwined at a hotel called Emross.

Although Medley is marketed as a romantic comedy, not all the stories are about romantic love. We get a look into family, friendships, and even one’s own self-worth. Like most feel-good movies, each story centers on a character with an obstacle that they need to overcome before they can reach their happy ending. For instance, Jae-yong (Kang Ha-neul) is dealing with depression, So-jin (Han Ji-min) realizes she waited too long to confess her love, and Catherine ( Lee Hye-young ) is trying to rekindle a former love. Having so many storylines can get confusing and stories can get rushed, but Medley manages to tie everything in a nice bow without trivializing any of the characters’ experiences.

Some of the stories that stand out are not about romantic love. Jae-yong’s story, for instance, is more about empathy rather than who he ends up with. His story is the most prominent, because it tackles a dark topic like suicide in a comedic matter. After failing his civic test and getting dumped by his girlfriend, he decides to end his life after a nice stay at the hotel. In the beginning, he is only met by uncompassionate individuals who do little to deter him from his decision. However, once he gets to the hotel, the entire team goes out of their way to make him love life again. It adds a layer to the other characters as well, by showing their empathetic sides with their efforts to save his life rather than casting him away.

The film also tackles love at all ages, with a central theme of seizing the moment. It portrays a teenager who hesitates to confess to his crush, a hotelier manager who waited too long to confess, and a mother who is trying to rekindle her first love. The moral of their stories is fairly straightforward: take a chance when you can, before it is too late. But the film is also realistic about this message: it may work out, but sometimes, it may not.

In the case of So-jin, her love story does not pan out as she planned. She realizes that her best friend is truly in love, and she simply waited too long to take her shot. However, she is able to accept that loss and continues to have a wonderful friendship. It is nice that the film included a love that did not take off, because it shows that it is not the end of the world. Additionally, due to her bravery, she is able to influence her younger brother to take the chance before it is too late.

Unfortunately, due to there being so many stories, we do not get a chance to see fully rounded characters. In the case of Yong-jin (Lee Dong-wook), who has an unusual trauma with odd numbers, Medley does little to elaborate on the issue. His love interest, Lee Young ( Won Jin-ah ), is an aspiring dancer who puts her work at the hotel over her passion. We also do not get to learn about how she ended up that way. However, like all the stories, we do get a resolution to their problems, even it is overly simplified.

Like in all feel-good movies, there have to be happy endings. The conclusions all come together fairly nicely at a New Year’s Eve wedding. There are no hard feelings, and essentially all the villains get their comeuppance. However, the focus of the film is not to get any revenge, but for the main characters to be truly happy. This is not an overly deep film, and it does not delve into any characters’ backgrounds. However, A Year-End Medley is full of holiday joy and easy resolutions. If you are looking for a light and heartfelt story, then this film would be an enjoyable experience.
