A boat attraction at Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Florida, partially sank Thursday, leaving some guests submerged in water from their waists down.

All the parkgoers riding the Jungle Cruise boat in Adventureland got off the ride safely, a Disney spokeswoman said. The ride lasts about 10 minutes and is listed on Disney World's website as a "slow" ride for "all ages." The "river cruise" is lined with animatronic wild creatures.

Park staffers immediately called the Reedy Creek Fire Department when they noticed the ride was going awry, the Disney spokeswoman said. They then worked with affected guests individually to help them enjoy the rest of their day at the Orlando theme park.

Disney World Jungle Cruise Boat Sinks with Passengers on Board in Mid-Ride Mishap

All the riders were safely rescued from the vessel

One Walt Disney World attraction just became a little too immersive for riders.

Around midday on Thursday, one of the boats used in the classic Jungle Cruise ride at the Orlando theme park started sinking while filled with passengers.

Witnesses documented the mishap on social media , showing guests still standing inside the boat as the murky water slowly rose around their legs. All those on board were safely rescued, but later images captured the vessel nearly completely submerged , its canopy roof still visible and what appears to be a lone park employee on board.

“Our boat on the jungle cruise sank today. Fun times! #wdw,” one park-goer tweeted .

“The water in the boat was about a foot and half. Happened about noon,” wrote the same Twitter user. “We went from floating to sunk in about a minute. Everyone was fine and we were rescued in about 20 minutes.”

The ride, located in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland area, is for all ages and lasts approximately 10 minutes, according to the official Disney World website , which describes it as a “journey that you won’t soon forget.”

A Disney spokesperson told PEOPLE that employees immediately engaged the Reedy Creek Fire Department to respond to the event.

Everyone made it off the boat safely, and staff members worked individually with the guests to ensure the rest of their park visit went smoothly, the representative said. The attraction has since reopened.

According to the official description of the ride, visitors can “Board a canopied tramp steamer piloted by your trusty skipper, who will expertly navigate you through some of the world’s most treacherous waters.”

The beloved attraction is best known for its quirky skippers, who entertain guests with jokes throughout the riverboat excursion. Animatronic wildlife can also be seen along the banks.

Jungle Cruise is set to be adapted into Jungle Cruise the movie this summer. It will star Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt and comes to theaters July 24.

Disney World jungle cruise boat sinks while passengers are on board

Theme park guests joined the bathing elephants in the faux nile.

"The most magical place on earth " lost some of its enchantment Thursday.

For some passengers, the Jungle Cruise attraction became a true adventure in Disney World's Magic Kingdom. One of the ride's boats, "Bomokandi Bertha" began sinking into the water around 12:30 pm EST forcing all passengers on board to slush through murky ankle-deep water to high ground. The ride was shut down for nearly 2 hours as passengers were safely evacuated off the ride and the boat was towed away.

DISNEY NAMES BOB CHAPEK CEO; IGER TO CHAIR BOARD THROUGH 2021

Although no one was injured, Thursday's accident with Disney's water system recalled memories for some of another water-related incident at the Orlando theme park.

In 2016, a 2-year-old Nebraska boy was eaten by an alligator at a The Grand Floridan beach resort hotel. In his book, "Ride of a Lifetime," Disney executive chairman Bob Iger ger called  that event “the saddest day of my career.”

Disney World features "hundreds of lagoons and canals" Iger also wrote. Florida's alligators live in freshwater but since the death of Lane Graves, Disney has removed more than 100 gators from its properties, has placed signs, fences and rocks along the resort's water areas to protect visitors and has a permit from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to remove up to 400 alligators through April 2023.

According to FOX 35 (WOFL) in Orlando, Disney worked with guests from the "sunk" Jungle Cruise individually so that they could enjoy the rest of their day in at the theme park.

The Disney World web site declares that the Jungle Cruise is a "10,000-mile journey that you won't soon forget!" That was certainly true for Thursday's passengers.

Disney World's Jungle Cruise Boat Sinks With Passengers on Board

Disney will soon release a film about the ride starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

Disney ’s Magic Kingdom turned out to be less magical than some tourists would have hoped.

A boat on the Jungle Cruise tour—where passengers float along a river filled with robot animals—sank into the shallow water, with riders still in it. Florida’s Reedy Creek Fire Department responded to the incident, Disney World representatives told USA Today . The passengers were safely escorted off the boat.

That day, a passenger who was aboard the vessel tweeted photos of the scene. “Our boat on the jungle cruise sank today. Fun times!” he wrote, alongside an image of multiple passengers’ feet soaked in water. He also posted a photo of a man standing in the boat with water almost up to his waist.

“Our skipper was awesome, used a radio to get help, and we did not have wet feet or wet clothes on for very long,” the user added. “I can rest easy being part of the best Disney metaphor of all time.”

Twitter, of course, had a field day with the incident.

Jungle Cruise Update: Walt Disney World Releases Statement on Sinking Boat

in Disney , Walt Disney World

Jungle Cruise at Disney

In the early afternoon on Thursday, a Jungle Cruise boat took on water and began to sink mid-ride bringing some surprised Walt Disney World guests and one skipper down with it. The incident was reported live by park guests in and around the sinking vessel flooding their own social media accounts with updates. Walt Disney World has now released an official statement on the matter.

Inside the Magic covered the story just as it was occurring earlier today. The Jungle Cruise launch went down close to High Noon (12:00 p.m. EST) in the Adventureland area of the Magic Kingdom . The accident occurred in shallow water which left the passengers standing in ankle-deep water as the boat began to sink. At around the same time, it was reported on Twitter that the Jungle Cruise attraction was “temporarily interrupted” and the ride was back in operation before 2:00 p.m. EST.

Walt Disney World’s Official Statement

“A boat took on some water. Reedy Creek Fire Department responded immediately to this event. Everyone got out of the boat safely. We worked with guests individually so that they could enjoy the rest of their day in the park. The attraction has reopened.”

At Inside the Magic, we want to also mention that nobody was reported injured during this unfortunate event. This is an extremely rare occurrence for any water ride at Walt Disney World or any Disney theme park, especially Jungle Cruise, which has been operating at Disney World for decades and at Disneyland for even longer. Walt Disney World’s statement is as calm as the situation truly was despite the reactionary panic on social media. We hope that this news does not alter your opinion of one of the most beloved Disney attractions of all time and deter you from enjoying it on future Walt Disney World vacations.

Jungle Cruise at Disney

Walt Disney World describes the Jungle Cruise on their website as the following:

Embark on a river cruise where dangerous beasts and dry wit abound. Board a canopied tramp steamer piloted by your trusty skipper, who will expertly navigate you through some of the world’s most treacherous waters. Steam past lush foliage, butterflies and waterfalls on the Amazon in South America. Glimpse an abandoned camp overrun by curious gorillas on the shores of the African Congo.  Along the Nile, watch for bathing elephants, angry hippos and hungry lions. Be on the lookout for a tribe of headhunters recently spotted in the area. Your cruise continues down the Mekong River in Asia, home to baboons, cobras and other fearsomely life-like creatures.  It’s a 10-minute, 10,000-mile journey that you won’t soon forget!

A Jungle Cruise Boat Started Sinking At Disney’s Magic Kingdom — The Rock Was Nowhere To Be Found

Dane Rivera

One of our favorite Disney attractions is the Jungle Cruise. Sure, it’s not exciting, it’s not “cool” by any means, and some would argue that it’s not even particularly fun — but we live for Jungle Cruise captains (usually an old person) with no comedic timing whatsoever telling incredibly cringe-inducing jokes while we sit back, cool off, and watch some robot hippos emerge out of murky three-feet deep water. All you nerds can keep your Jedi-fulfillment fantasies , we’ll take the chill vibes of the Jungle Cruise any day.

As kitschy-cool as the ride is, ever since Disney announced that they’d somehow be turning the five-minute ride until a full-blown movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt, many have been wondering if Disney would begin revamping the cruise to match the high-octane thrills of the movie. For the record, they won’t be, but we can’t help but think of how many people had the thought “Oh my God did they revamp the ride?!” yesterday at Disney’s Magic Kingdom as a Jungle Cruise boat began to slowly fill with water before eventually sinking.

Photos of the incident have begun circulating throughout social media that capture the moment the Jungle Cruise boat, Bomokandi Bertha, began sinking at 12:30 PM yesterday afternoon at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, causing a 105-minute interruption while passengers were rescued. Luckily, no injuries were reported — so you can chuckle while taking a look at the chaos below.

Disney World officials said everyone got off of the ride safely after a Jungle Cruise boat took on some water on Thursday, Feb. 27. The local Reedy Creek Fire Department was immediately contacted and responded to the incident, Disney World officials said.

The Magic Kingdom worked with the affected guests so they could enjoy the rest of the day in the park, officials said. The Jungle Cruise attraction reopened shortly after the sunken boat was removed from the winding river. The cause of the sinking was not revealed.

Online video showed passengers being evacuated from the sunken boat known as the Bomokandi Bertha to a “jungle” island in the middle of the attraction.

Jokes soon flooded social media making references to cornball skipper comedy, the upcoming “Jungle Cruise” movie and former Disney CEO Bob Iger . The sunken Jungle Cruise boat inspired puns about truly “immersive” theme park rides and the “underside of water.”

Fortunately, the Jungle Cruise “river” is only a few feet deep with the bottom obscured by a color tint in the water.
