We wanted to reduce the hassle and help travelers enjoy their hard-earned vacations. So today, we’re introducing a new mobile app to help you instantly plan each day of your trip with just a few taps of your finger:  Google Trips .

Introducing Google Trips

Google Trips is a personalized tour guide in your pocket. Each trip contains key categories of information, including day plans, reservations, things to do, food & drink, and more, so you have everything you need at your fingertips. The entire app is available offline — simply tap the “Download” button under each trip to save it to your phone.

Choose your own adventure

For the top 200 cities in the world, Google Trips shows you a variety of day plans featuring the most popular daily itineraries. We’ve automatically assembled the most popular sights, attractions, and local gems into a full day’s tour — all based on historic visits by other travelers. Say you’re visiting Barcelona. You can choose from multiple day plans, like “Eixample District,” which maps out the can’t-miss buildings by Antoni Gaudi, the famous Spanish architect.

Plan each day of your trip like magic

Say your friends told you that you have to see the Sagrada Familia — and you’re looking for suggestions on things to do around that spot. Press the “+” button in the day plans tile to jump into a map view containing all the top attractions in your destination. If you’re time constrained, you can specify above the map whether you have just the morning or afternoon, versus a full day. Then simply tap and pin the Sagrada Familia to build your itinerary around it. Google Trips automatically fills in the day for you. If you want more options, tap the “magic wand” button for more nearby sights. You can pin any new spots you like, and if you want even more, each tap of the “magic wand” instantly gives you a new itinerary with updated nearby attractions like Palau Macaya or Parc del Guinardo, so you can build your own custom itinerary in minutes while munching on your morning churro.

All your travel info, all in one place

Keeping track of all your flight, hotel, car and restaurant reservations when you travel can be tough. With Google Trips, all your travel reservations are automatically gathered from Gmail and organized for you into individual trips, so you don’t have to search and dig up those emails. They’re waiting for you within the reservations tile, even without WiFi.

Google Maps' new 'Travel Time' feature simplifies trip planning

A new feature called "Travel Time" has appeared in Google Maps, allowing users to estimate the area they can reach on foot or by car within a given time frame.

Google Maps is an extremely popular service that we often use during trips to reach our destinations quickly and efficiently. Besides standard route planning, the application enables us to monitor real-time traffic, helping to avoid traffic jams and delays, and locate nearby service points such as gas stations or restaurants.

However, not everyone is familiar with all the features Google Maps offers. Useful options like setting alternative routes, which can bypass road obstacles, or the ability to view streets in Street View mode, allow users to better prepare for their trips. Additionally, using the offline mode is an ideal solution for situations where there is no internet access, ensuring uninterrupted application operation even in difficult conditions. Discovering these features can significantly improve and facilitate any journey.

New feature in Google Maps – Travel Time

The "Travel Time" option is a useful feature for planning spontaneous trips, allowing users to determine where they can reach within a given time frame. Not all users realize that such functionality exists, and it can greatly facilitate travel organization.

To access this feature, simply select the "Layers" menu, then "More," and in the "Map tools" section, choose "Travel Time." By clicking on a town or object, the function allows you to determine the area you can reach on foot or by car within the given time.

At the bottom of the map, a menu will appear that allows you to choose between walking and driving. For walking, travel times of 15 or 30 minutes are available, whereas for driving, you can choose times ranging from 15 minutes to 6 hours. The available area will be marked with a blue zone.

It is worth noting that the "Travel Time" feature only works when viewing Google Maps in a browser on a computer (it does not work on the mobile app).

Are Tuesdays still the best day to book flights? Here's what major travel platforms found.

travel google

  • There’s not a point in choosing a specific day of the week to book your flight as the savings are only marginal, if any.
  • Instead, there are other factors that impact airfare pricing much more.
  • Flying out in the middle of the week instead of the weekend can save travelers an average of 18% on domestic summer airfare.

It’s the age-old question about travel: What is the best day of the week to buy airfare ?

For the longest time, it’s been said that prices surge on the weekends and travelers should wait until Tuesday to book their flights, but how true is that these days?

Now that airfare has become more expensive – flights from major U.S. airports cost 29% more on average this year than in 2021 – knowing the answer could mean the difference between saving some serious dollars.

USA TODAY asked three major travel platforms – Expedia , Hopper and Google Flights – what they found to be the best day for travelers to book flights based on their data.

Here’s what they said.

Travel can be stressful. Avoid these airports, according to a new report

What is the best day to book flights?

Unfortunately, there’s not a point in choosing a specific day of the week to buy airfare as the savings are only marginal, if any, according to Hopper and Google Flights.

An analysis of flight costs initially published in 2022 found that airfare purchased on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays has only been 1.9% cheaper than those bought on weekends for the past six years. A Google Flights spokesperson confirmed with USA TODAY that this data holds true as of June 2024.

Instead, there are other factors that impact airfare pricing much more. “While everyone wants a golden rule for the best day of the week to book a flight – the reality is that the best day, and time, to book a flight depends on a number of factors,” said Hayley Berg, Hopper’s lead economist, in an email to USA TODAY.

“We tested this out and looked at the best day of the week to book for a number of popular trips and Tuesday was the cheapest day just 1% of the time,” she said. “The best price might be available on Tuesday – but it might be available on another day of the week.”

However, Expedia did come up with a surprising answer contrary to popular belief: Book your flight on the weekend, particularly Sunday, according to its 2024 Air Travel Hacks report published in September 2023.

“Travelers saved an average of 13% compared to those who book on Fridays (the most expensive day),” Expedia travel expert Christie Hudson told USA TODAY in an email. The findings came from “billions of data points” from the Airlines Reporting Corporation and OAG, a data platform for the global travel industry, Hudson added.

Although you can wait until Sunday or avoid Friday to book, other factors are far more important in securing the best deal on your airfare.

Tips to save money on airfare

Berg recommends people monitor flight prices with tools like Hopper or Capital One Travel and aim to book domestic flights between one and three months before departure and international flights between four and five months before departure. “Don’t leave booking too late; prices can increase by hundreds in the final weeks before departure,” she said.

According to Expedia’s report, travelers who purchase their domestic flight 28 days in advance pay 24% less on average than last-minute bookings.

Instead of the day you book impacting costs, it’s the day you fly out that matters to score cheap airfare. Flying out in the middle of the week instead of the weekend can save travelers an average of 18% on domestic summer airfare, Hopper found. For international trips, the savings can be even more – the platform found that flying to Europe this summer on a Tuesday or Wednesday can save $435 per ticket.

Google Flights agrees. On average, flights on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday are 12% cheaper than those on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

People walking next to the entrance of the Honkan museum building that holds the Japanese Gallery in ... [+] the Tokyo National Museum in the Ueno Park at the Taito ward in Tokyo city, Japan.

Tokyo is an intoxicating swirl of culture and entertainment with something exciting to do or see around every corner and alleyway. It would be an understatement to say that narrowing down your itinerary on your first trip to the city is going to be difficult. That said—there are a handful of museums and galleries that should be on every first-timer’s itinerary when visiting Tokyo, especially if you like to spend your holiday getting lost observing artifacts and fine art.

The following museums and galleries offer a great overview of contemporary and historical Tokyo and greater Japan and will allow you to get a feel for the city and for Japanese culture past and future. Here are five of the best museums and galleries for first-timers in Tokyo:

Yayoi Kusama Museum

The Yayoi Kusama Museum is a must-see for contemporary art lovers, hands down. Dedicated to the work of the 90-year-old Japanese artist, the museum boasts the largest collection in the world. Note that tickets sell out extremely fast, and go on sale on the first of every month. It’s imperative that you book in advance.

teamLab Borderless

You’ve probably seen shots of the teamLab Borderless exhibit on viral Instagram videos, but the interactive digital 3-D museum is well worth visiting in real life—and not just for the social media pics. Expect moving art, hidden rooms, and innovative installations that will instantly transport you back to childhood.

The National Art Center

From Murakami to Cartier, The National Art Center in Roppongi highlights some of the best contemporary and classic art from around the world. One of Japan’s largest exhibition centers, here’s where to come for the best and most interactive art exhibits in the country.

Apple Loop: iPhone 16 Design Leaks, New M4 MacBook Pro, Apple’s Open-Source AI

Google pixel deadline—10 days to update or stop using your phone, latest iphone 16 leak reveals updated camera, new buttons, ghibli museum.

The Ghibli Museum should be on every first-timer’s itinerary, whether or not you’re a fan of the animation studio already. The quirky museum was partially designed by director Hayao Miyazaki and the colorful exterior architecture and dense layers of greenery that surround the property are almost as impressive as the collection of artifacts on the inside.

Tokyo National Museum

You’ll want to give yourself the full day to explore the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno Park. The museum is considered the oldest museum in all of Japan and features the most comprehensive collection of Japanese art in the world. The Tokyo National Museum also contains more than 100,000 different Japanese artifacts to explore and discover—but keep in mind that the museum is constantly designing different curations, which means every time you visit you’ll see something new.

Tracking the Remnants of Alberto

By William B. Davis, Madison Dong, Judson Jones, John Keefe, and Bea Malsky

The remnants of Alberto were over Mexico Thursday afternoon Mexico Central Time, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The system had sustained wind speeds of 30 miles per hour.

Where did it rain?

Tropical cyclones typically drop large amounts of rain along and near the storm's path. The slower and more significant the storm’s size, the higher the likelihood of higher rainfall totals. Some storms can drop well over 30 inches of rainfall, like when Hurricane Harvey dropped over 60 inches near Nederland, Texas, in 2017.

What did the storm look like from above?

Satellite imagery can help determine the strength, size and cohesion of a storm. The stronger a storm becomes, the more likely an eye will form in the center. When the eye looks symmetrical, that often means the storm is not encountering anything to weaken it.

Alberto is the first named storm to form in the Atlantic in 2024.

In late May, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted that there would be 17 to 25 named storms this year, an above-normal amount.

This season follows an overly active year, with 20 named storms — including an early storm later given the official name of “Unnamed.” It was the eighth year in a row to surpass the average of 14 named storms. Only one hurricane, Idalia, made landfall in the United States.

Typically, the El Niño pattern that was in force last season would have suppressed hurricanes and reduced the number of storms in a season. But in 2023, the warm ocean temperatures in the Atlantic blunted El Niño’s usual effect of thwarting storms.

The warm ocean temperatures that fueled last year’s season returned even warmer at the start of this season, raising forecasters’ confidence that there would be more storms this year. The heightened sea surface temperatures could also strengthen storms more rapidly than usual.

To make matters worse, the El Niño pattern present last year is also diminishing, most likely creating a more suitable atmosphere for storms to form and intensify.

Hurricanes need a calm environment to form, and, in the Atlantic, a strong El Niño increases the amount of wind shear — a change in wind speed and/or direction with height — which disrupts a storm's ability to coalesce. Without El Niño this year, clouds are more likely to tower to the tall heights needed to sustain a powerful cyclone.

The forecast is for up to five days, with that time span starting up to three hours before the reported time that the storm reaches its latest location. Wind speed probability data is not available north of 60.25 degrees north latitude.

Wind arrivals table Sources: New York Times analysis of National Hurricane Center data (arrival times); U.S. Census Bureau and Natural Earth (geographic locations); Google (time zones) | Notes: The table shows predicted arrival times of damaging, 58 m.p.h. winds in select cities when there is a chance such winds could reach those locations. “Earliest possible” times are times when, if damaging winds do arrive, there is at least a 10 percent chance they will arrive at the time shown. “Most likely” times are times when, if damaging winds do arrive, there is an equal chance that such winds will arrive before and after the time shown.

Find plane tickets on Google Flights

When you use Google Flights to find plane tickets, you can get the best fares for where and when you want to travel. Use Google flights to:

  • Find and book round trip, one-way, and multi-city tickets.
  • Use an interactive calendar and price graph to find the best fares.
  • Filter your flight search by cabin class, airlines, and number of stops.

Google Flights allows you to book flights from more than 300 airline and online travel agency partners. These partnerships have no impact on the ranking of offers suggested to you.

Find your flights

  • Go to Google Flights .
  • At the top, choose the number of stops, cabin class, and how many tickets you need.
  • Select your ticket type: one-way, round trip, or multi-city.
  • Choose your departure airport and destination. To pick from a list of popular destinations, tap Explore .
  • Tap the calendar entry box to select your flight dates. You’ll find the lowest total price to fly for each day.
  • To filter your results, tap Stops , Airlines , Class , Times , or More .

travel google

  • Choose a flight for each leg of your trip. The price shown is the total cost for every flight on the ticket.
  • When you tap  Select for your ticket(s), you’ll usually be taken to the airline’s website or online travel agency to complete the booking.
  • In some cases, you can book separate tickets for one trip .
  • Once you’ve booked a flight, work with the airline or travel agency to confirm your booking, change it, or cancel it.

For more info, refer to the airline or online travel agent's terms and conditions on their site.

Tip: If your flight can’t be booked online, you'll find instructions to book by phone.

Booking separate tickets for one trip

Flights can be bought as separate tickets from one or more partners. This option might appear when it could save you money or open more flight schedules.

Instructions to buy tickets separately

If you find a notice that both tickets can be bought in a single transaction from an online travel agency, click the link to visit their website.

  • Visit the first airline or online travel agency’s website.
  • Double-check the price, and buy your first ticket.
  • Immediately visit the next airline’s or travel agency’s website, and buy the second ticket, to make sure your second ticket is still available. If your second ticket can’t be bought, in the United States, in most cases, you can call the airline to take advantage of 24-hour refund policies to refund the first ticket.
  • If you need to make changes, you might be charged a change fee for each ticket.
  • Each airline has different baggage rules and fees.
  • Buying separate tickets from different airlines may require claiming and rechecking baggage, which takes additional time, so plan accordingly.
  • If your outbound trip is delayed, for example in the case of a layover or multi-city trip, you might miss your second trip. To find out about your options, contact the airline.

Why some flights aren’t included

Google Flights uses over 300 partners, like airlines, online travel agencies, and aggregators, to display its offers. Not all airlines or available flights are included, as a partnership with Google is required. Most of these partners provide Google with all prices and flight options that they would show on their own websites or through third-party sites. This ensures that you get a complete view of the flights and prices that match your search, without the need to check prices on multiple sites.

Some flights might not show up when:

  • The flights are sold out or unavailable.
  • The carrier hasn’t yet been added to Google Flights.

Upgrade your M4 iPad Pro travel carry with these accessories

Avatar for Fernando Silva

As someone who uses their iPad Pro as their main computer, I tend to bring it with me wherever I go. One of my favorite aspects about the iPad is that it is basically a modular device without actually saying it’s modular. Between the pin connectors, Thunderbolt port, the magnets, and its lightweight chassis, this makes it the perfect computer to pair with many accessories. So here are some of my favorite accessories I have been using with my new M4 iPad Pro, specifically centered around travel.

If you want to see a hands-on video of all of these accessories and more, be sure to check out our video below!

Native Apple accessories

I want to mention briefly that I use Apple’s native accessories for the M4 iPad Pro. If you use your iPad as your main computer, like I do, then getting the new Magic Keyboard is a must. It completely changes how you use the iPad by turning it into a laptop-like experience. It is pretty pricey, but it’s the only true way to make the iPad compete with something like a Macbook Air. Secondly, I am using the new Apple Pencil Pro. I am no designer or artist, but I tend to take a lot of notes and work with Affinity Photo. The new updates to the Apple Pencil Pro , like haptics, the squeeze gesture, and Find My support, have been welcome upgrades. But now that we have those out of the way, lets get into the fun part!

Shinjuku Messenger Bag

I am always looking for new backpacks and messenger bags to carry all of my tech goodies. This new Shinjuku Messenger by Waterfield checks off many boxes for people looking for a high-quality leather bag that’s lightweight and has the perfect amount of storage for a work commute or a quick work weekend. The combination of full-grain leather on the outer flap and their new X-Pac canvas material makes for a nice, well-rounded package.

  • The compact is made for the 11in iPad Pro and smaller devices
  • Full is made for the 13in iPad Pro and also fits the 13in Macbook air and other similar-sized devices
  • It comes in three colors: Brown Waxed Canvas, Storm Grey and Black
  • Dedicated compartment for iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard
  • Larger, more open area for larger items
  • Internal water bottle holder
  • Exterior zipper on flap for quick access to items

travel google

Overall, I think this is a great option for someone who isn’t looking for a large backpack but more of a slick and minimal messenger bag look. You can also fit much more than I thought you could fit in the bag itself. The compact size is $229 and the full size is $239, which is very competitive pricing when considering the build quality and materials.

Woolnut Leather Folio Case

The M4 iPad Pro is not a cheap package, especially when considering the additional Apple accessories. I spent around $1800 on my 1TB iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro. So, the first thing I did was to make sure I had a safe way to store my iPad while still being able to bring it with me. The new Leather folio by Woolnut was perfect. This is essentially a perfectly sized leather sleeve that fits your M4 iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro. The outside is made of full-grain leather, which smells fantastic, and the inside is made of this extremely soft and satisfying wool felt. So, it will still be protected even if you place your iPad in the sleeve without the keyboard.

  • It comes in 3 leather colors: Black, Cognac & Green
  • It comes in 3 Matte PU material colors: Black, Blue & Green
  • Room for Magic Keyboard & Apple Pencil
  • Zipper protection avoids scratches
  • Dedicated Apple Pencil holder

travel google

Woolnut does offer these in two different material finishes, in leather and in this matte PU material as well. Both are functionally identical, so if you want to save some money, the matte PU version is on sale for under $60, while the full-grain leather version is $160.

ProtoArc USB- C Hub Mouse

I love it when a product can serve multiple functions. This mouse by ProtoArc does just that. On the surface, it looks like a normal lightweight and portable mouse. It has all your normal functions, like connecting to 3 different devices, a scroll wheel, an extra shortcut button, and charging via USB-C. But the mouse actually houses a mini USB-C hub! If you look at the rear of the mouse, you can actually pull out a 3 in 1 USB-C hub, which is perfect for those on-the-go situations. It has:

  • HDMI 2.0 port
  • USB-A 3.0 port (up to 5GBps)
  • USB-C power passthrough port with 60W support

Of course there are USB-C hubs out there with many more ports and with faster data and power speeds, but for something small compact that is just part of another product, I love this thing. Not only that but it’s only $50 (sometimes on sale for $40). This has been one of my favorite recommendations for anyone looking for a portable mouse.

travel google

5 in 1 Magic Power Bank

In the same light as the ProtoArc mouse, I wanted to find a charger that did more than just plug into a wall and charge my iPad. Raycon, yes, the headphone company recently released a slew of power-related products, and they are actually great! I recommend checking them out but we are going to focus on their 5 in 1 charger.

So, how is this a 5 in 1 charger? Firstly, it looks and acts as a typical wall charger. It connects to any AC outlet and has a USB-C and USB-A port that outputs 20W. Charges of this size typically can charge at higher wattage, but since this is only for an iPad, the 20W is more than enough, especially considering everything else. Not only does it charge your plugged-in devices, but it also houses a 10,000mAh battery that is constantly charging itself when it’s plugged into the wall. It doesn’t stop there; then it has two short built-in cables, a USB-C cable, and a lightning cable to charge your devices on the go. It also has a Magsafe puck on its side that supports up to 15W of charging. Then the last two things to mention are that it has a small kickstand for your phone and an LED screen that gives you the battery percentage of the power bank.

This is the perfect travel charger for iPads and iPhones. My only gripe is the output. It only charges at 20W, so I wouldn’t consider this a solution for a MacBook.

travel google
