Three American entries boosts TCR World Tour field at Mid-Ohio

The FIA TCR World Tour field will be boosted by three North American drivers at Mid-Ohio this weekend as Harry Gottsacker (USA), Mark Wilkins (CAN) and Riley Pegram (USA) have been entered.

Two of the drivers, team-mates Gottsacker and Wilkins, are currently racing in the TCR category of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, an American series which is also racing at Mid-Ohio this weekend.

Wilkins and Gottsacker are both driving a Hyundai Elantra N TCR for Bryan Herta Autosport, currently placed second and fourth overall in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.

Pegram will make her touring car debut this weekend and become the first female FIA TCR World Tour driver, driving an Audi RS 3 LMS for Pegram Racing.

She has previously raced karts and Porsche Sprint Challenge North America.

Norbert Michelisz heads to the USA as the chased FIA TCR World Tour driver, heading the standings on 97 points after a consistent start to the season.

His closest challengers are the two Lynk & Co Cyan Racing drivers Santiago Urrutia and Yann Ehrlacher, trailing the points lead by nine and 15 points respectively.

Ehrlacher meanwhile is facing a tough weekend as he will start from the back of the grid due to an engine change penalty from Marrakech. The Cyan Racing duo will also carry the most compensation weight in the US, with 40kg for Urrutia and 30kg for Ehrlacher.

Michelisz’s Hyundai team-mate Néstor Girolami, who will carry 30kg of compensation weight, shares third place with Ehrlacher while the top Honda GOAT Racing driver Esteban Guerrieri is placed fifth overall, 20 points from Michelisz.

The Mid-Ohio race weekend starts on Friday with practice and qualifying, followed by two races on Saturday.

Trio of American entries boost Mid-Ohio TCR World Tour entry

A trio of additional entries will boost the grid of this weekend’s FIA TCR World Tour to 15 cars, as two Americans and a Canadian join the grid at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Thew TCR World Tour is supporting the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge this weekend, and will hold two standalone races on Saturday, nine hours apart.

Alongside the 12 regular full-season entries will be three local drivers, including two from the current IMSA field.

Bryan Herta Autosport is entering two Hyundai Elantra N TCR cars for Harry Gottsacker and Mark Wilkins, who had been car-sharing team-mates in the 2020 and 2021 Michelin Pilot Challenge seasons.

Gottsacker, along with Robert Wickens, is the reigning Michelin Pilot Challenge TCR champion, whilst Wilkins, along with Michael Lewis, won the 2019 title, and has twice finished runner-up.

Alongside them, the series will also see its first-ever female competitor, as Riley Pegram enters a self-run Audi RS3 LMS TCR. The 19-year-old will take part in her home race, as she hails from Columbus, the capital city of Ohio.

She is the daughter of Pro America Superbike Championship race winner Larry Pegram, and has recently been competing in the American Endurance Racing series and the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America.

Practice and qualifying take place on Friday, followed by the two races on Saturday.

Racing Series

The IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge is a multi-class sprint racing series that debuted in 2023. The lead LMP3 class features entry-level, closed-cockpit prototype race cars, while the production-based GSX class will utilize race cars built to international GT4 technical regulations. Each of the six event weekends on the 2024 VP Racing SportsCar Challenge schedule will include a pair of 45-minute sprint races, and drivers must be rated either Bronze or Silver on the FIA Driver Categorization List.

James Ivy Bell Jr., 56, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away May 29, 2024, at Parkersburg Care Center. A private cremation will take place at Mid-Ohio Valley Cremation Society.

The Mid-Ohio SpeedTour brings to life the sights and sounds of over seven decades of motorsports. Our paddocks are rich with history showcasing racing icons that include: Lotus, Alfa, Jaguar, Mazda, Porsche, Brabham, among many more. Dozens of Triumphs have gathered to celebrate the 2020 Kastner Cup with a Reunion and Race. The Trans Am Series by Pirelli, International GT, FR Americas Championships and the Formula 4 United States Championship powered by Honda have come to challenge Mid-Ohio’s tricky, 13-turn, 2.5-mile road course. Whether learning about a historic sports car, getting a prized autograph or wheeling a 850hp Trans Am car around the track, there is something for everyone at Mid-Ohio this weekend.

We are live streaming the Mid-Ohio SpeedTour. You’re invited to download the free Trans Am and SVRA Apps for your Apple or Android devices, and enjoy minute-by-minute coverage.

Everyone is happy to get back to the track. We encourage you to enjoy the paddocks, meet the drivers, examine the cars and watch some great racing. Please take all of the necessary precautions to ensure your own health and the safety of those around you.

SVRA dates back to the Kendall Grand Prix, a vintage race held in 1976 as part of the annual 12 Hours of Sebring. From an initial membership of 25 enthusiasts who got together in 1978 to form one of the oldest vintage racing organizations, SVRA has grown to become the premier vintage racing organization in the United States, with more than 2,000 active members.

I’m thrilled to present this world-class event and welcome drivers, fans and enthusiasts of all ages to the Mid-Ohio SpeedTour. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. Let’s go racing!

INDIANAPOLIS – The field of 64 teams competing for the 2024 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship was announced today by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee.

The national top 16 seeds are Tennessee (50-11), Kentucky (40-14), Texas A&M (44-13), North Carolina (42-13), Arkansas (43-14), Clemson (41-14), Georgia (39-15), Florida St. (42-15), Oklahoma (37-19), NC State (33-20), Oklahoma St. (40-17), Virginia (41-15), Arizona (36-21), UC Santa Barbara (42-12), Oregon St. (42-14), and East Carolina (43-15).

The Southeastern Conference (SEC) leads the way with a record 11 teams selected from the conference. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) has eight teams in the field followed by the Big 12 (6), Sun Belt (4), Big Ten (3) and Pac-12 (3). The American Athletic, Big East, Big West, Conference USA and Missouri Valley all have two teams in the field.

High Point, Niagara, and Northern Kentucky are making their first appearances in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, while Evansville is making its first appearance since 2006.

Vanderbilt has the longest active streak with its 18th straight appearance. Other notable consecutive streaks include Florida (16), LSU (12), Oklahoma State (11) and DBU (10).

Selection of the eight super regional hosts will be announced on www.NCAA.com/mcws , Tuesday, June 4 at 10 a.m. ET . The Men’s College World Series begins play Friday, June 14, at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.
