Mumbai Police on Monday issued traffic advisory ahead of PM Modi's roadshow in Mumbai on May 15

Mumbai Police on Monday issued traffic diversions in parts of city ahead of PM Modi's roadshow in Mumbai for Lok Sabha elections 2024.

In a traffic notification, Mumbai Police said, on May 15, 2024, a roadshow has been organised at L.B.S Road in the jurisdiction of Ghatkopar Traffic Police Division in Mumbai and a large number of people will be participating in the roadshow.

The police said, due to this congregation on such a large scale on L.B.S. Road, the movement of vehicular traffic will be effected on adjoining roads in the vicinity of L.B.S. road. Hence following traffic arrangement is made.

1.Road Closed for Vehicular Traffic

- L.B.S. Road from Gandhi Nagar Junction to Naupada Junction and on Mahul-Ghatkopar road from Meghraj Junction to R.B. Kadam Junction shall be closed for all type vehicular movement on both the bound from 14.00 hrs to 22.00 hrs.

2. Road shall be Closed for vehicular traffic as per requirement.

1. Vehicular traffic On Andheri - Ghatkopar Link Road from Ghatkopar Junction to Sakinaka Junction.

2. Vehicular traffic towards Gulati petrol pump junction from Hiranandani Kailash.

3. Vehicular traffic form Golibar Maidan and Ghatkopar Metro Station (W) towards Sarvodaya Junction.

3. Alternate routes

1. Eastern Express Highway, 2.Western Express Highway, 3. Andheri-Kurla Road,4.Saki Vihar Road, 5.MIDC Central Road, 6. Santacruz Chembur Link Road (SCLR), 7.Sion- Bandra Link Road, 8. Jogeshwari Vikroli Link Road (JVLR).

"Citizens and motorists are appealed to plan their journey accordingly and use alternate routes to reach their desired destinations," Mumbai Police said in the traffic notification.

The police said that inconvenience was regretted.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak at two rallies and a roadshow in the city on May 15 and 17 ahead of voting for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in Mumbai, according to the sources, as the poll dates in the city nears. 

Mumbai will vote in the fifth and final phase of Lok Sabha polls and it will take place on May 20, 2024, encompassing 13 constituencies including Mumbai North, Mumbai North West, Mumbai North East, Mumbai North Central, Mumbai South Central, Mumbai South, Washim, Dindori, Nashik, Palghar, Bhiwandi, Washim, Thane.

Academy Launches $500 Million Global Outreach Initiative to Broaden Base and Honor 100th Oscars Edition

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Friday launched a global outreach campaign called Academy100 intended to expand its scope and connection with a worldwide base.

Academy President Janet Yang and CEO Bill Kramer launched the Academy100 initiative, that entails a $500 million fundraising drive, at a Rome event hosted by the Eternal City’s storied Cinecittà Studios.

The fundraising drive has already raised $100 million from partners inlcuding Rolex, which has long supported the Academy.

Yang in a passionate speech said that AMPAS is becoming more diverse and international than ever. Within its current almost 11,000 members, 30% now “resides outside of the U.S. and this number continues to grow,” she noted.

“These changes have resulted in heightened enthusiasm for international films, as they travel fluidly across increasingly porous borders to reach audiences everywhere,” Yang added.

“And when we elevate international voices and bring them into the fold, we in turn bring in ever newer audiences from around the world, strengthening the direct impact we’re having on global culture at large,” she went on to point out.

The Academy100 campaign involves hosting conferences, community gatherings, special events, and educational programs “with Academy members and the broader film and arts communities in locations around the world,” as a statement put it.

Details of the various events that are part of this milestone initiative are still being kept under wraps.

Beginning in 2027, in honor of the Oscars’ centennial in 2028, the Academy Museum will present a series of special exhibitions, film programs, and publications connected to the history of the Academy and the Academy Awards.

Cinecittà is a “founding supporter” of the Renzo Piano-designed museum as part of a five-year agreement that will involve a series of annual events celebrating Italian cinema.

“Cinecittà welcomes the Academy for such a significant celebration of its history,” said Cinecittà CEO Nicola Maccanico. “Co-hosting this Academy100 event underscores the strength of our partnership, which is also evident in our support for the Academy Museum and its Italian film programming,” he added.

Watch: Giant billboard collapses onto Mumbai street during powerful storm

At least four people have died with more than 40 feared trapped after a massive billboard fell during a rainstorm in Mumbai , India , on Monday 13 May.

The storm was accompanied by gusty winds causing the billboard, located next to a busy road in the eastern suburb of Ghatkopar, to collapse on some houses and a petrol pump.

Officials said at least 61 people have been injured in the incident.

A rescue operation for the people remaining trapped under the billboard is ongoing.

Fire services, police, disaster response officials and other authorities are all involved in the rescue efforts, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the civic body that runs Mumbai, said on X.
