India has updated entry requirements for incoming travellers, removing the need for vaccinated passengers from certain countries to present a negative PCR test result on arrival.

The rules now apply to travellers from 99 countries, including the UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon .

Passengers who received both doses of their Covid-19 vaccination in India also no longer need to present a negative PCR result, meaning Indian residents returning to the country from the UAE are exempt from having to take a test when leaving the Emirates.

If you’re planning to travel to India in the near future, here’s everything you need to know before you go.

Do I need to quarantine in India?

Travellers arriving into Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi can skip quarantine and pre-flight PCR testing if they're fully vaccinated from an approved country. AP

Travellers arriving in India no longer need to quarantine after authorities revoked the rule on seven-day mandatory home isolation for passengers coming from overseas. Only travellers who are symptomatic, and subsequently test positive for Covid-19, will have to quarantine.

Instead, all travellers should self-monitor their health for 14 days from the date they arrive in India.

Do the new rules apply to vaccinated passengers?

The new rules apply to all arriving passengers, regardless of vaccination status.

Do children need to quarantine on arrival in India?

travel from uae to india requirements

No, children do not need to quarantine on arrival, but parents should monitor their symptoms for 14 days after arriving in the country.

Do I need a negative PCR test to take a flight?

Vaccinated arrivals from certain countries no longer need to present a negative PCR test result when flying to India. Passengers who received both doses of a Covid-19 vaccination in India will also no longer need to present a negative PCR result, regardless of the country they are flying from.

There are 99 countries on the list from where PCR tests are not required, including the UAE. The detailed list can be found here and is updated regularly.

All other travellers must have a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure. Travellers should upload the test results to the Air Suvidha portal before flying.

Children below 5 are exempt from testing rules both pre and post-arrival, but those aged 5 and above must follow the rules in place for adults. Any children who develop symptoms of Covid-19 at any point during their trip will have to take a PCR test, regardless of age.

What do I need to do before flying to India?

There are a few documents that need to be submitted by passengers travelling to India.

DELHI, INDIA - MAY 26: Indian travelers arrive at the drop-off point of Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, as the country relaxed its lockdown restriction on May 26, 2020 in Delhi, India. With a slew of guidelines for passengers, India allowed commercial domestic flights to resume operations on May 25 for the first time since imposing a nationwide lockdown on March 25 to curb the spread of coronavirus, which has reportedly claimed around 4,000 lives in India so far. (Photo by Yawar Nazir/Getty Images)

Firstly, there is a self-declaration form which can be submitted online via the Air Suvidha portal , this needs to be filled in before travel and must include details of any countries visited in the previous 14 days.

A declaration also needs to be completed for each passenger, certifying that the Covid-19 negative certificate submitted is authentic, and an undertaking to face criminal charges if it turns out otherwise.

Travellers also need to download the Aarogya Setu app on their mobile devices for Covid-19 track and trace purposes in India.

Will I be tested for Covid-19 on arrival in India?

Some travellers will need to undergo further PCR testing for Covid-19 on arrival in India. New regulations state that 2 per cent of total passengers on each flight will undergo random post-arrival testing at the airport.

These travellers will be identified by the airlines. After the on-arrival test, they can leave the airport and will only need to isolate if they test positive.

There will also be thermal screening by health officials in airports across the country.

Is India still using its 'at-risk' list for travel?

The most recent update to India's travel rules means that the previous "at-risk" list of countries from where travellers had to undergo additional entry rules no longer applies.

What happens if I test positive while in India?

If you develop symptoms and subsequently get a positive PCR test result, then you’ll have to go to an isolation facility where a doctor will assess you and advise on the follow-up process.

Close contacts of a positive case will be contacted, including co-passengers and anyone in the home or hotel where the person with Covid-19 has been isolating. Fellow passengers who were seated three rows in front and three rows behind anyone who tests positive will also be considered close contacts.

Until when are the new rules in place?

No end date has been set for the new home quarantine rules with official documents stating that the rules are in place until “further orders”.

India recorded 913 new Covid-19 cases on April 3 alongside 13 new deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

The country has recorded more than 43 million total cases since the onset of the global pandemic, says Johns Hopkins.

Anything else I need to know?

Different states in India may also have their own rules for Covid-19 management, so travellers should check the rules in place for the destination they are travelling to.

Travelling between the UAE and India has been made easier with the lifting of some Covid-19 PCR test restrictions on travellers.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020, this is the first time that PCR tests requirement has been dropped on the UAE-India route as both countries took a tough stand on travel procedures to contain the pandemic.

On Saturday, airlines announced further easing of restrictions related to PCR test requirements.

Here is an updated guide for travellers flying from UAE to India and vice-versa for a hassle-free journey.

Which airline exempted travellers from carrying PCR tests when travelling from UAE to India?

Air India Express has allowed those passengers who have taken both the jabs of the Covid-19 vaccine in India not to carry a negative PCR test when travelling from UAE to India.

What about UAE passengers who are not fully vaccinated?

All those travellers who did not receive both the doses of coronavirus vaccine in India will have to take a negative PCR test 72 hours before the departure to India from UAE.

How many vaccines are approved in India?

There are 10 Covid-19 vaccines approved in India. This includes Oxford-AstraZeneca (also known as Covishield), Covaxin, Sputnik Light, Sputnik V, Corbevax, ZyCoV-D, Johnson & Johnson, Spikevax, Vaxzevria and Covovax. And some of them were approved for emergency use.

Apart from Air India Express, has any other Indian carrier also exempted passengers?

Yes. Go First has also exempted passengers from a PCR test when flying from UAE to India. Other airlines are likely to follow suit.

Do UAE passengers need to upload a vaccine certificate before flying to India?

Yes. Travellers need to upload their Covid-19 vaccination certificate issued in India on the Air Suvidha portal (https://www.newdelhiairport.in/airsuvidha/apho-registration).

Are there any declaration forms that passengers need to upload before embarking to India?

Yes, all passengers must upload a self-declaration form on the Air Suvidha portal, including travel details of the last 14 days.

Do travellers vaccinated in UAE need a PCR test before flying to India?

Yes. Passengers vaccinated in the UAE need to carry a negative PCR test taken 72 hours before their flight to India.

Do passengers from India need a negative PCR test before flying to Dubai?

Yes. Travellers need to carry a negative PCR test taken 48-hour before the departure. In addition, they also need to take a rapid PCR test at the airport.

  • UAE flights: Airfares set to double during Eid Al Fitr holidays
  • Covid-19: Singapore relaxes entry, testing requirements for vaccinated travellers
  • India-UAE flights: Some airlines flying from Kolkata exempt passengers from rapid PCR test
  • UAE-India travel: No Covid PCR test for vaccinated passengers, says Air India Express

Who is exempted from the PCR test when flying from India to Dubai?

Passengers flying directly from Kolkata to Dubai are exempted from rapid PCR tests at the airport, according to Emirates, flydubai, Air India and IndiGo. Emirates has also exempted a negative PCR test result taken within 48 hours for passengers flying from Kolkata to Dubai.

What is the reason for the removal of the need to carry a PCR test?

Travel industry executives suggest that it’s a ‘pilot test’ before further relaxation of rules for travellers in the wake of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the two nations.

Are passengers required to quarantine upon arrival in India?

No. India recently scrapped seven-day mandatory home quarantine for passengers coming from abroad, including the UAE.

Travel rules to Dubai from India eased: Here are the new requirements

Dubai residence visa holders can now travel from India to Dubai if they have the necessary approval from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) and can produce negative Covid test results.

These are the only two requirements that travellers must fulfil. Their vaccination status will not be taken into account by airline representatives at check-in counters, the Khaleej Times reported.

The GDRFA is a government entity that regulates the entry and exit of international travellers from Dubai as well as the residency of foreign nationals in the city.

The Dubai government had earlier said that with regard to travel from India, only passengers with a valid residence visa who have received two doses of a UAE-approved vaccine are allowed to travel to Dubai. There are four vaccines approved by the UAE government — Sinopharm, Pfizer-BioNTech, Sputnik V and Oxford-AstraZeneca.

Dubai had last month announced relaxation of travel restrictions from countries, including India. The UAE, in late April, had closed its borders for travellers from India. This had come in the backdrop of the surge in number of Covid-19 cases in India during the second wave of the pandemic.

Responding to a customer on Twitter, an Emirates Airline support executive on Monday tweeted, “Dubai residence visa holders can travel as long as they present a printout of GDRFA approval, a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours of departure and a negative Rapid PCR test taken 04 hours prior to travel.”

Hi, Dubai residence visa holders can travel as long as they present a printout of GDRFA approval, a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours of departure and a negative Rapid PCR test taken 04 hours prior to travel. “As per instructions issued by civil aviation authorities in Dubai, for passengers to disembark in Dubai, only three documents are required. They need to have a GDRFA approval, negative RT-PCR test result taken 48 hours before departure, and a rapid PCR test result from the airport," an Air India official in the UAE was quoted as saying by the Khaleej Times.

Visiting UAE soon? Here are some stricter entry requirements

If you’re planning on visiting the UAE soon, here’s what you need to be aware of regarding changes in tourist entry requirements.

Sundeeka Mungroo

Visitors to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will now need to heed specific entry requirements before visiting the country on a tourist visa.

This is the first time that UAE authorities have implemented such strict measures for international travellers.

Among these requirements, tourists will now have to provide proof of sufficient funds for expenses in cash or on a credit/debit card.

These new stricter policies were carried out to deter jobseekers from entering the country on a tourist visa with no intention of leaving ,  Visaguide.news reports.

UAE entry requirements

What are the new requirements to enter the UAE?

According to Travel News , tourists will need to be aware of the following before booking their ticket to the UAE:

  • Visitors will have to provide hotel booking documents and a return air ticket .
  • Visitors to relatives or friends will need to provide copies of their visa and passport, as well as their address, phone number, and accommodation details.
  • Visitors must show evidence of sufficient funds for expenses.

These funds are specific and tourists entering with a one-month UAE visa must have at least Dh3 000 or R15 340 in cash or on a credit/debit card.

Tourists entering with a three-month visa will have to show an amount of Dh5 000 or R25 567 for expenses.

It was also revealed that passengers may be asked about their documentation and purpose of visiting and if adequate reasons are not given, they may be denied entry into the UAE.

International travel documents for children

See what documents a child needs to travel to or from the U.S. alone or with a parent or relative.

Children traveling to the U.S.

All children, including infants, must have their own travel documents such as a passport or document from a Trusted Traveler Program to enter the U.S. If you travel or are going to travel with a child, consider taking the following documents:

  • If the child is traveling with only one of their custodial parents, they must have a letter of consent, preferably in English and notarized, from the other parent or signed by both parents. The letter should say "I acknowledge that my son/daughter is traveling outside the country with [the name of the adult] with my permission."
  • If one parent has sole custody of the child, a copy of the custody document can take the place of the other parent's letter.
  • Parents who frequently cross the border by land with a minor must always carry a letter of permission from the other parent.

U.S. citizen children traveling abroad

Ports of entry in many countries have security measures to prevent international child abduction . If you are traveling alone with your child, you may be required to present documentation proving you are the parent or legal guardian. You may also need a letter of permission from the other parent for your child to travel.

If your child travels alone, depending on the country, they may be required to present a notarized letter from both parents or their legal guardian. If a minor is traveling abroad and is not accompanied by both parents or a legal guardian, contact the embassy or consulate of the country you will be visiting and ask about entry and exit requirements for that country.

India UAE travelling Guidelines

Are you planning to travel between the UAE and India? Well, if it is a yes, then you may be unsure of all the rules and regulations you need to follow –

  • How many days prior to your travel should you take a PCR test?
  • Do you need to take an advance test at all?
  • Will you be asked to go into institutional quarantine in India or can you quarantine at home?

Here is all you need to know about travelling to and from India.

There are some basic considerations you need to keep in mind.

1. How soon should you get a PCR test before you travel?

Steps to follow

1. Fill out the self-reporting or self-declaration form  – All passengers must fill the self-reporting form on the website of the airport they are travelling to, at least 72 hours before the scheduled departure. Passengers will receive an approval code that must be presented at the time of departure.

2. Check airport requirements  – Find out the specific requirements based on the Indian state you are landing in, as well as the airport’s requirements. After restrictions were implemented recently, following the emergence of a new coronavirus strain, each Indian state has put in place specific requirements for institutional quarantine, who can exempt themselves from it and whether passengers will be able to take connecting flights within the country to other national airports. These guidelines are regularly updated and it is advisable to check the airport’s website to get the latest requirements before you book your ticket.

3. Conduct a COVID-19 test before you travel  – Some international airports in India do not have a mandatory requirement for a pre-travel COVID-19 negative test result. However, it may help you in getting an exemption from institutional quarantine, in some states. A state-wise breakdown of travel requirements is available below.

4. Keep printed copies  – It is always advisable to keep printed hard copies of your negative COVID-19 PCR test, any self-declaration forms or special request forms you may have filled in. Some airports may not accept digital copies like those on your mobile phone.

5. Quarantine guidelines  – Each state has specific regulations for quarantine requirements – whether at home or a state institution – quarantine exemption rules and eligibility.

No Air Suvidha form required – UAE to India travel guidelines explained

Living in uae.

India updates requirements for international passengers – here is all you need to know

STOCK INDIA AIRPORT DELHI

Dubai: From today, you will not need to file an Air Suvidha form if you are travelling from the UAE to India, after travel guidelines were updated for international passengers arriving in India.

On November 21, India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) issued guidelines for international arrivals – superseding the guidelines issued on the subject on September 2, 2022 .

“The present guidelines are being revised in light of sustained declining COVID-19 trajectory and significant advances being made in COVID-19 vaccination coverage both globally as well as in India,” the announcement read.

No Air Suvidha form required

The new guidelines no longer require passengers to fill out the Air Suvidha form, which was a self-declaration form that required passengers to fill out details of their travel, as well as proof of vaccination and PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test results.

Vaccine requirements

According to the advisory, all travellers should preferably be fully vaccinated as per the approved primary schedule of vaccination against COVID-19 in their country.

Face mask requirements

During the trip, passengers are advised to use a face mask as a preferred form of precaution. In case a passenger has any symptoms of COVID-19 during the trip, he or she should wear a mask. The individual should also be isolated and segregated from other passengers in flight or during the trip and shifted to an isolation facility subsequently for follow up treatment.

Social distancing

According to the advisory, de-boarding should be done while ensuring physical distancing. Thermal screening will also be conducted by health officials at the point of entry.

Passengers found to be symptomatic during screening have to be immediately isolated and taken to a designated medical facility as per health protocol.

Passengers have also been advised to monitor their own health after they arrive in India and report to their nearest health facility or call National helpline number – 1075 – or the State’s Helpline Number in case they have any symptoms.

What are the COVID-19 rules to follow when you are returning to the UAE?

When returning to the UAE, you do not need a PCR test result, as long as you are fully vaccinated. However, there are certain other documents that you can also provide, in place of a PCR test result, in case you are not fully vaccinated. This includes a recent COVID-19 recovery certificate.
