Little Feat are a band hailing from Los Angeles, California, United States who formed in 1969. Since their debut, they have released 15 studio albums and remain one of the most acclaimed cult bands of the 1970's.

When your band is hailed by none other than Jimmy Page as his favourite American band while at the height of his powers, you know you're doing something right, but Little Feat are so much more than some famous guy's favourite band. The seeds of the band were sewn when singer, songwriter and guitarist Lowell George and keyboardist Bill Payne met George was playing in Frank Zappa's band The Mothers Of Invention. Payne auditioned, was not successful, but the duo struck up a friendship all the same, and along with Roy Estrada, a bass player who George knew from playing in the Mothers with him, and drummer Richie Hayward, the quartet formed the first incarnation of Little Feat together.

While he wasn't in his band anymore, Zappa was still aware of George's talent, and was instrumental in securing the band a record deal with Warner Bros. Records. The band recorded their first album in August and September 1970, and was released the following January. Their first two albums were critically adored but weren't hits, despite their song “Willin'” becoming a modern rock standard of the time. Because of their lack of success, the band briefly split up before getting back together in 1972, and thanks to evolving their sound to incorporate influences from New Orleans funk, the band started to gain enough sales to keep them afloat throughout the 1970's. It would take something truly tragic to take out the band, and that was exactly what happened when George passed away in 1979.

However, George's longtime co-vocalist Paul Barrere, put the band back together in 1987 along with Payne and a host of others who the band had worked with during their hiatus. To this day, the band are still writing and recording, along with playing some of the best live shows of their entire career. The list of artists who've paid tribute to the band is a mile long and filled with names like Bob Dylan, The Black Crowes and Joe Walsh, and they're still going strong to this very day. For that, they come highly recommended.

Live reviews

If you are looking to feast on a rich smorgasbord of sound, at an auditory intersection where heavy West Coast rock tempered with hard driving Texas swing crashes headlong into hot Cajun boogie gumbo resulting in a sonic sensation that’ll delight your ears and set your “feats” to dancing, then my friend you need to jump up outta that couch, shout “HOY!” to anyone who’ll listen and get your ass to a Little Feat show!

Although the band’s history starts in 1969, it really wasn’t until their third album in 1972 that they solidified into the hard rockin’ jam band that still survives to this day. In spite of the passing of founding members Lowell George in 1979 and Richie Hayward in 2010, Little Feat carries on a tradition of pleasing audiences around the world with their eclectic mix of syncopated Cajun boogie funk rock!

The Band now consists of 6 musicians. Bill Payne: most excellent keyboards & vocals, Paul Barrere: smokin’ hot slide guitar & vocals, Fred Tackett: gutsy guitar, magical mandolin & vocals, Kenny Gradney: boomin’ funky bass, Sam Clayton: poppin’ percussion & vocals and the new guy Gabe Ford: doin’ a great job on them drums & putting the beats to the Feats ala Richie, and doin' him proud!

This is a band like no other, ready to take you on a journey through their 30+ years worth of great tunes! You should definitely get on yer dancin' shoes and put seeing a Little Feat Live show at the top of your bucket list!

I last saw Little Feat in 1979, and a huge fan. I very much enjoyed seeing the band again after all the years. I enjoyed the show, especially Bill Payne on keyboards.

Too bad Paul B. Is working through health issues. Missed his guitar. Get better soon.

The real negative of the night was the sound system. I read about this sound problem in reviews from earlier shows. Unfortunately the kinks were not worked out in time for Chicago performance. It was hard to hear vocals and individual instruments.

Wow/...what can I say! The concert at The Keswick Theater was amazing. They were as good or better then I'd ever seen them! Of course it didn't hurt that I was front row center seat. Truly a memorable evening. One of my all time favorite bands! Can't wait to see them again...

Thanks, Milissa

The band was great. I liked the way they would go into one song then jam into another then back to the first one. Similar to the Dead.

The sound for the first 1/3 of the show was awful. Was there a novice on the sound board? Bill Payne was sharp but you could not hear the guitars.

Not quite the "boogie" band anymore, tempo has slowed a bit. However the talent of these musicians screams to be heard.A highlite: When they played Robbie Robertsons "The Weight", 3 generations of my family went-- we were all entertained.

Band was good. Hard to hear lyrics sometimes.

Got in late because we were ushered to a back door to get in and waited for 20 minutes when the scanner went down. Because of that we missed 20 minutes of the show.

Great music, fabulous musicians equals a great show and performance. They performed their hits, but also added in some great blues riffs with extended tunes showing great keyboards, guitar and percussion work.

This was such a great concert! They rarely make it up to the Pacific Northwest, so this was a real treat. They sounded amazing and played a lot of their hits. I would love to do this one again.

THE INDOMITABLE LITTLE FEAT

Little Feat is the classic example of a fusion of many styles and musical genres made into something utterly distinctive.  Their brilliant  musicianship transcends boundaries, uniting California rock, funk, folk, jazz, country, rockabilly, and New Orleans swamp boogie into a rich gumbo, that has been leading people in joyful dance ever since.

It began in 1969 when Frank Zappa was smart enough to fire Lowell George from the Mothers of Invention and tell him to go start a band of his own.  Soon after, Lowell connected with Bill Payne, which stirred up sparks.  They then found drummer Richie Hayward.

They were quickly signed by Warner Bros. and began working on the first of twelve albums with that venerable company.  The first album, Little Feat , featured the instant-classic tune “Willin’,” and the follow-up Sailin’ Shoes added “Easy to Slip,” “Trouble,” “Tripe Face Boogie,” “Cold Cold Cold” and the title track to their repertoire.  Paul Barrére, Kenny Gradney (bass), and Sam Clayton (percussion), joined up, and the latter two remain rock-solid members of Little Feat’s rhythm section.

1973’s Dixie Chicken gave them the title track and “Fat Man in the Bathtub,” as good a blues as any rock band has ever written.  Their career to that point was summed up with the live Waiting for Columbus , truly one of the best live albums rock has ever heard.

Fifty years on the road cost them Lowell George, then Richie Hayward and Paul Barrére, but the music has carried them forward. When you spend your life on the road you can get eaten up by the stresses, or you can hold on to your music and your friends and the joy of the people out front and keep the priorities straight the way the Featsters have.

Little Feat in 2024 is:  Bill Payne, Keyboards and Vocals; Sam Clayton, Percussion and Vocals; Fred Tackett, Guitars and Vocals, Kenny Gradney, Bass; Scott Sharrard, Guitars and Vocals; and Tony Leone, drums.

Fifty years on, they’ve been up and they’ve been down and they know where they belong—standing or sitting behind their instruments, playing for you.  And anything’s possible, because the end is not in sight.

THE WOOD BROTHERS

The Wood Brothers have learned to trust their hearts. For the better part of two decades, they've cemented their reputation as freethinking songwriters, road warriors, and community builders, creating a catalog of diverse music and a loyal audience who’ve grown alongside them through the years. That evolution continues with Heart is the Hero, the band's eighth studio album. Recorded analog to 16-track tape, this latest effort finds its three creators embracing the chemistry of their acclaimed live shows by capturing their performances in real-time direct from the studio floor with nary a computer in sight. An acoustic-driven album that electrifies, Heart is the Hero is stocked with songs that target not only the heart, but the head and hips, too. "We love records that come from the era of less tracks and more care," explains co-founder Oliver Wood. "When you use a computer during the tracking process, you have an infinite number of tracks at your disposal, which implies that nothing is permanent, and everything can be fixed. Tape gives you limitations that force you to be creative and intentional. You don't look at the music on a screen; you listen to it, and you learn to focus on the feeling of the performance." Throughout Heart Is The Hero, those performances are matched by the visceral storytelling and songwriting chops that have turned The Wood Brothers into Grammy-nominated leaders of American roots music, even as their music reaches far beyond the genre's borders. The stripped- down swagger of "Pilgrim" underscores Oliver's reminder to slow down and experience each moment as an interactive observer, rather than a passive tourist. A similar theme anchors "Between the Beats," where Oliver draws upon a meditation technique — maintaining one's focus on the space between heartbeats — to reach a new level of presence. The gentle sway of country soul gem “Rollin’ On,” featuring horns by Matt Glassmeyer and Roy Agee, expounds on the time- honored tradition of love as the guiding light through darkness, while ”Mean Man World" finds Chris Wood singing about his responsibilities as a father whose young daughter is poised to inherit an uncertain future. "Line Those Pockets" is a universal call for mercy and understanding over materialism. "Everybody's just trying to be happy, so put your money away; line those pockets with grace," the band sings in three-part harmony during the song's chorus, which emphasizes compassion over cash as the world's true currency. Together, these songs offer a snapshot of a spirited, independent-minded group at the peak of its powers, always pushing forward and seeking to evolve beyond what’s come before.

"There's still acoustic guitar, upright bass, and percussion on this album — things people use all the time — but we're always thinking, 'How can we make this sound like us, but not like something we've already done?'" Oliver says. "Sometimes, the only way to do that is to get weird." That sense of exploration pumps its way through Heart is the Hero like lifeblood. Arriving on the heels of 2019's Live at The Fillmore, 2020's Kingdom In My Mind, and Oliver Wood's solo album Always Smilin' — all of which were released on Honey Jar Records, the band's independent label — Heart is the Hero is bold, bright, and singularly creative, a fully realized collective effort ultimately greater than the sum of its parts. Perhaps that's to be expected from a group whose willingness to experiment has earned acclaim from Rolling Stone and NPR, as well as an annual touring schedule of sold-out music halls and theaters on both sides of the Atlantic. Ask The Wood Brothers, though, and they'll tell you to expect the unexpected.

Little Feat has announced plans for a 2024 Summer Tour. Featuring support by special guest Los Lobos , the “Can’t Be Satisfied” Tour will stop in Cincinnati, OH for a performance at PNC Pavilion on Tuesday, June 18.

Feat has spent some of its recent off time working on a blues album – more on that later – and so chose to name the new tour in honor of one of the legendary tunes in American history, “Can’t Be Satisfied.” It is the song that began Muddy Waters’ legendary career, and it’s highly appropriate for a band that, after more than fifty years, is at the top of its game and hungry for more.

Little Feat features Bill Payne (keyboards, vocals), Kenny Gradney (bass), Sam Clayton (percussion and vocals), Fred Tackett (guitars and vocals), Scott Sharrard (guitars and vocals), and Tony Leone (drums).

Event Description

The members of Little Feat emerged from the pandemic with their sense ofhumor, chops, and collective joy in playing intact. Over the past three years, they’ve focused tours on their epic live album. Waiting for Columbusandre-issues of their second through fourth albums (Sailin’ Shoes, Dixie Chicken, and Feats Don’t Fail Me Now). Audience response has been rapturous.

The band builds on a deep, over 50-year history. Little Feat used a combination of elite musicianship and brilliant, idiosyncratic songwriting to create a repertoire that transcends all boundaries. California rock, funk, folk, jazz, country and rockabilly mixed with New Orleans swamp boogie led to a powerful sound that has kept the audience dancing for decades.Their groove–in songs like“Dixie Chicken,” “Spanish Moon,” “Fat Man in the Bathtub,” and “Feats Don’t Fail Me Now”–was so infectious it allowed them to endure and press on even when losing their founder, Lowell George, and founding drummer, Richie Hayward. They’re in top form now with Scott Sharrard on lead/vox and Tony Leone on drums/vox, and with founder Bill Payne on keys/vox, Fred Tackett on guitars/vox, Kenny Gradney on bass, and Sam Clayton on percussion/vox.

Now it’s time for something new. Their creativity has been renewed, and 2024 will see the release of the brand-new Sam’s Place, in which Feat backs their linchpin conga player, Sam Clayton, on vocals. The album features a new song, “Milk Man,” by Sam, Scott, and Fred. There’s a live version of “Got My Mojo Working.” Sam and Bonnie Raitt duet on Muddy’s “Long Distance Call.” Sam’s Place scratches a deep itch. Sam added, “I'm very happy because I was never expecting anything like that. I mean, I have wanted to, but I just wasn't expecting it to come to the fruition. It was a long wait, but it’s satisfying.”

On June 1, Tedeschi Trucks Band returned to the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, Calif. The performance arrived after the group opened their two-night stand the evening prior, May 31. For TTB’s Saturday follow-up, they were warmed up and ready to enchant their Bay Area audience again; from the first note, it was clear that they were seeking to entice, with Susan Tedeschi stepping out with Jerry Garcia’s esteemed “Alligator” 1955 Fender Stratocaster. Later, the group debuted a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Money Man” before welcoming members of Little Feat during the night’s encore.

From the first bit of “Statesboro Blues,” featuring Tedeschi’s complimentary riffs on the legendary Garcia-owned guitar, the band was on a mission to dispatch a memorable experience for those in attendance. Blind Willie McTell’s original song gave way to a series of TTB originals: “Let Me Get By,” “Part of Me” and “Hear My Dear.” Rather than stick with the motif, they pivoted, adding the night’s debut next, a take on The Rolling Stones’ 1969 originator, “Monkey Man.”

Sticking with covers and in part recognizing their location, the band delivered a take on the Grateful Dead’s “Mr. Charlie,” complimented by the precision of Derek’s esteemed instrumentation and his wife’s bluesy vocals. Mind Made Up tune “Do I Look Worried” gave way to a pairing of “Shame” and Blind Joe Reynolds’ “Outside Woman Blues.” Before a launch into encores, TTB added “Bound for Glory,” “Midnight in Harlem,” and “Yes We Will” before the evening’s final original, “Ain’t That Something,” off their latest studio set, I Am The Moon.

For the final song of the main frame, the band added Mathew Moore’s “Space Captain,” ultimately returning for the night’s encore next, which began with a cover of Mike Reid’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” which fully accentuated Tedeschi’s vocal range. Members of Little Feat, who have been on the road with TTB and opening select concerts, joined their hosts next, adding to covers, including Sleepy John Estes’ “Leaving Trunk” and the event’s final, Rahsaan Roland Kirk’s “Volunteered Slavery.” Watch a fan-shot video below.

After closing out their weekend concerts, the band announced a new leg of Deuces Wild concerts today, June 3, expanding their current run with a Southern-heavy roster of gigs after the initial newly announced performance slated for Oct. 3 in Providence, R.I. Following the stop above, the group will perform a pair of shows at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans (Nov. 1-2), before an ensuing stand in Chattanooga, Tenn. The band will tack on five North Carolina stops before closing the new leg with performances at Atlanta’s The Fox (Nov. 15-16). Select dates will include help from Duane Betts and Maggie Rose.

Tickets go on sale Friday, June 7, at 10 a.m. local time.

Little Feat will be live at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls on Friday, June 28, with special guests Duane Betts and Palmetto Hotel, as part of their Can't Be Satisfied Tour.

About Little Feat Little Feat is the classic example of a fusion of many styles and musical genres made into something utterly distinctive. Their brilliant musicianship transcends boundaries, uniting California rock, funk, folk, jazz, country, rockabilly and New Orleans swamp boogie into a rich gumbo that has been leading people in joyful dance ever since.

The first album, Little Feat, featured the instant-classic tune “Willin’,” and the follow-up Sailin’ Shoes added “Easy to Slip,” “Trouble,” “Tripe Face Boogie,” “Cold Cold Cold” and the title track to their repertoire. Paul Barrére, Kenny Gradney (bass) and Sam Clayton (percussion) joined up, and the latter two remain rock-solid members of Little Feat’s rhythm section.

1973’s Dixie Chicken gave them the title track and “Fat Man in the Bathtub,” as good a blues as any rock band has ever written. Their career to that point was summed up with the live Waiting for Columbus, truly one of the best live albums rock has ever heard.

Fifty years on the road cost them Lowell George, then Richie Hayward and Paul Barrére, but the music has carried them forward. When you spend your life on the road, you can get eaten up by the stresses or you can hold on to your music and your friends and the joy of the people out front and keep the priorities straight the way the Featsters have.

Little Feat in 2024 is: Bill Payne, Keyboards and Vocals; Sam Clayton, Percussion and Vocals; Fred Tackett, Guitars and Vocals; Kenny Gradney, Bass; Scott Sharrard, Guitars and Vocals; and Tony Leone, drums.

The Washington Pavilion is proud to partner with 3eEncore.com for all of our live entertainment shows!

On Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, The Pre-Show Playlist Is Full Of Easter Eggs

Fans can jam to a slew of hits before the singer takes the stage.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Pre-Show Playlist Includes Easter Eggs

Before Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour show, fans know it’s time for the pre-party, and the singer has provided the perfect soundtrack. Swift expertly curated a selection of 40 songs that play before she goes onstage at Eras Tour , and many of her selections included Easter eggs, from hints at future collaborations to nods to her opening acts .

The playlist features a variety of artists and genres all designed to pump you up for the concert. From Grammy-winning hitmakers like Lady Gaga and Janet Jackson, to up-and-coming artists like Raye and Griff, fans can expect to hear many hits as Swift gets ready to enter the stage (in a literal janitor’s cart ).

Read on for Swift’s full Eras Tour pre-show playlist, including the songs she added for 2024 stops and the three hits that always play before she takes the stage.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Pre-Show Playlist

Lana del rey - “diet mountain dew”.

Fans who arrive at the Eras Tour early will be greeted by the voice of Swift’s “Snow on the Beach” collaborator Lana Del Rey. Swift chose one of her earliest singles, 2012’s “Diet Mountain Dew,” for the playlist, proving she’s a longtime fan of Del Rey.

Selena Gomez - “Look At Her Now”

Swift gives a shoutout to her BFF Selena Gomez by including “Look At Her Now,” which she danced to when Gomez performed the track at the 2019 American Music Awards.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Pre-Show Playlist Includes Easter Eggs

HAIM - “My Song 5”

Swift has been friends with Alana, Danielle, and Este Haim for so long that she’s often called the fourth Haim sister, and she proves her loyalty by including one of their earliest singles, “My Song 5,” on the playlist.

Griff - “Shade of Yellow”

Swift has shown support to Griff in the past by sending flowers and including her on Apple Music playlists, so it only makes sense that she also puts “Shade of Yellow” on her pre-show playlist.

niceboy ed - “life you lead”

This song started a slew of Swiftie conspiracy theories after Swift used it in a 2022 TikTok video, and fans discovered that niceboy ed’s identity is completely unknown. The mysterious artist has only released two more singles since then, and their inclusion on the Eras Tour playlist only raises more questions about who they are.

Suki Waterhouse - “Moves”

While it’s not one of her most public friendships, Swift has been friends with Suki Waterhouse for quite some time, even singing her praises to SSENSE in August. “She is the wildest person I know who I would also trust to keep any secret,” she said of Waterhouse.

boygenius - “True Blue”

Phoebe Bridgers, one of the boygenius members, collaborated with Swift on “Nothing New” and opened for her on the May 2023 dates of the Eras Tour, so it’s only natural that her band with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus make an appearance on the pre-show playlist.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Pre-Show Playlist Includes Easter Eggs

Florence + the Machine - “King”

Swift’s inclusion of Florence + the Machine’s “King” was seen as a nod to her constant collaborator Jack Antonoff, who produced the song, but it also turned out to be a Swiftian Easter egg for her track with Florence, “Florida!!!” on The Tortured Poets Department .

HAIM - “3 AM”

Swift also included HAIM’s 2020 track “3 AM,” from their Grammy Album of the Year-nominated Women in Music Pt III .

Lil Nas X - “THAT’S WHAT I WANT”

In an adorable full-circle moment, Lil Nas X attended one of Swift’s Chicago shows in June and danced to his own hit while waiting for her to take the stage.

MUNA - “Number One Fan”

MUNA was among the many Eras Tour openers in the U.S., so it’s natural that their anthem, “Number One Fan,” gets a shoutout on the playlist.

Lenny Kravitz - “American Woman”

Swift used Lenny Kravitz’s “American Woman” as her entrance song on the Red Tour, playing it right before she took the stage. Its inclusion on the Eras Tour playlist is a nice throwback nod.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Pre-Show Playlist Includes Easter Eggs

Ethel Cain - “American Teenager”

Swift cleverly contrasts “American Woman” with Ethel Cain’s “American Teenager,” giving two different perspectives on girlhood.

Taylor Swift - “False God”

It’s not known why Swift chose Lover deep-cut “False God” to be the lone representative of her catalog on her pre-show playlist, but it is one of the album’s best songs, so I’m not mad about it.

Hamilton Leithauser - “A 1000 Times”

Singer-songwriter Hamilton Leithauser is friendly with Lucy Dacus, who’s mentioned on Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department , which proves there should be a Six Degrees of Taylor Swift function à la Kevin Bacon .

Kenny Chesney - “Big Star”

Swift was supposed to open for Kenny Chesney on one of his tours but had to drop out because Bud Light was a sponsor, and she was underage at the time. However, the country singer gave her a bonus that jumpstarted her career, so her inclusion of “Big Star” nods to his act of kindness.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Pre-Show Playlist Includes Easter Eggs

Steve Lacy - “Bad Habit”

Swift was clearly feeling Steve Lacy’s performance of “Bad Habit” at the 2022 Grammys, which carried over to the Eras Tour.

Bakar - “Hell N Back”

Bakar released “Hell N Back” in 2019, but it only started going viral in the past year, when it also seemingly caught Swift’s attention.

Saweetie - “Best Friend (feat. Doja Cat)”

Given that Swift has many best friends, some of which are featured on the Eras Tour, it’s no surprise that she added Saweetie’s ode to friendship to her playlist.

Doja Cat - “Boss Bitch”

Doja Cat may also have something to do with Swift putting “Best Friend” on her playlist, as she also included the rapper’s viral track “Boss Bitch.”

King Princess - “For My Friends”

Swift has been a fan of King Princess since she rose to fame, even mentioning the singer during her Billboard Woman of the Decade speech in 2019.

Florence + the Machine - “Free”

If “King” wasn’t enough of an Easter egg, Swift's addition of a second Florence song, “Free,” to her pre-show playlist should have been a surefire sign of what was to come.

BLACKPINK - “Pink Venom”

Swift was spotted dancing when BLACKPINK performed “Pink Venom” at the 2022 Video Music Awards. Clearly, she’s a Blink.

Janet Jackson - “All For You”

Swift and Del Rey nodded to Janet Jackson’s 2000 hit “All For You” on “Snow on the Beach,” making it a fitting song to play before the Eras Tour.

Paramore - “Misery Business”

Not only is Swift longtime friends with Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams, but she also collaborated with her on Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) . Plus, the band opened for the first two shows of the Eras Tour and rejoined Swift in Europe, where she specifically requested that they add “Misery Business” to their setlist. Basically, all roads led to this song going on the playlist.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Pre-Show Playlist Includes Easter Eggs

boygenius - “$20”

Swift was inspired to add another boygenius song, perhaps after Baker and Dacus joined Bridgers during her first Eras Tour set.

Fall Out Boy - “My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark”

Swift added Fall Out Boy’s long-winded 2013 hit a few shows into the tour, likely as an Easter egg for their collaboration “Electric Touch” on Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).

Raye & 070 Shake - “Escapism.”

Raye is a known fan of Swift , praising her for re-recording her first six albums.

Faith Hill - “This Kiss”

Faith Hill and her husband, Tim McGraw, have been friends and mentors of Swift since the start of her career (with the latter being the namesake of her debut single), so it’s no surprise that one of Hill’s biggest hits gets a nod during the Eras Tour.

Sabrina Carpenter - “Nonsense”

Swift's inclusion of Sabrina Carpenter’s viral hit “Nonsense” turned out to be an Easter egg hinting at her being the opening act for Eras Tour dates in Latin America, Australia, and Singapore.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Pre-Show Playlist Includes Easter Eggs

Ice Spice - “In Ha Mood”

If you hear Ice Spice’s voice blaring through the speakers, it’s time to head to your seat. Swift including the rapper’s breakout single “In Ha Mood” ended up being an Easter egg for the duo’s “Karma” remix.

Lady Gaga - “Applause”

Swift is a noted Little Monster, having praised Lady Gaga’s single “Applause” back in 2013. As the penultimate song to play before the Eras Tour, it plays as if Swift is demanding applause and hyping up the crowd for her arrival.

Lesley Gore - “You Don’t Own Me”

As the two-minute-and-13-second countdown begins, Lesley Gore’s 1963 classic “You Don’t Own Me” plays over the speakers and usually causes an empowering sing-along in the crowd. It’s an apt choice for Swift’s pre-entrance song amid her re-recording process, sending a clear message that her music is hers and hers alone.

New Songs Added To 2024 Eras Tour Playlist

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Pre-Show Playlist Includes Easter Eggs

Holly Humberstone - “Down Swinging”

Australian artist Holly Humberstone seems to be a newer discovery for Swift, given how the two singers have yet to speak about each other.

Maisie Peters - “History of Man”

Maisie Peters’ new single was produced by Swift’s good friend and collaborator Ed Sheeran, making its inclusion a subtle nod to both artists.

Camila Cabello - “I LUV IT (feat. Playboi Carti)”

Camila Cabello previously opened for Swift on 2018’s Reputation Stadium Tour, and given how Swift added her new single “I LUV IT” to her playlist, they have seemingly stayed close since then.

Doja Cat - “Agora Hills”

Swift adding a third Doja Cat song, the 2023 single “Agora Hills,” to the playlist shows how big of a stan she is.

Gracie Abrams - “Risk”

At first, Swift's addition of Abrams’ new single “Risk” to the playlist seemed like a nod to her frequent Eras Tour opener, who will rejoin the tour in October. However, it ended up also being another Easter egg about their collaboration “Us” on Abrams’ upcoming album, Secret of Us .

Rudimental - “Waiting All Night (feat. Ella Eyre)”

There’s no known connection between Swift and Rudimental, which just means that she must be a fan of the song .

The Evening

Both democrats and republicans embrace border politics.

Also, India’s election was closer than expected. Here’s the latest at the end of Tuesday.

A group of migrants, including a small child with a backpack, look at border agents in fatigues across a border fence covered in concertina wire.

By Matthew Cullen

Republicans in Arizona voted this afternoon to put a measure on the state’s ballots in November that would make illegal immigration a state crime . If passed, the measure would give local authorities the power to arrest, jail and deport unauthorized migrants.

The proposal is similar to laws recently passed by Republicans in Texas and Iowa that challenged the federal government’s exclusive authority to enforce immigration laws. Like those, it is likely to face court challenges if passed. But Republicans are hoping the measure can convince anti-immigration conservatives and unenthusiastic independents to vote in a swing state that could be crucial in the presidential race.

President Biden is also hardening his border policies in an effort to ease pressure on the immigration system and address voters’ rightward shift on immigration. Today, he issued an executive order that prevents migrants from seeking asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border until illegal crossings drop significantly; it could go into effect tomorrow. Here’s how it works .

Biden’s move to restrict long-established asylum protections for migrants echoes Donald Trump’s attempted crackdown in 2018, which many Democrats, including Biden himself, criticized. The American Civil Liberties Union said it planned to challenge the executive action in court.

“The administration has left us little choice but to sue,” said Lee Gelernt, a lawyer at the A.C.L.U. “It was unlawful under Trump and is no less illegal now.”

In related news, San Diego has become a migrant hot spot. My colleague Jonathan Wolfe explained what it’s like there .

Modi won, but with a slimmer margin than expected

India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi, claimed a third term in office today — a feat that only one other Indian leader has accomplished. But early results showed a margin of victory that was far narrower than expected.

The outcome was a surprising setback for Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party, also known as the B.J.P. While it will still hold a plurality of Parliament, the B.J.P. appeared likely to lose dozens of seats. As a result, Modi will be forced to rely on coalition partners that don’t share his Hindu nationalist agenda. Here’s what to know .

Ayodhya: The B.J.P. was poised to lose its seat in the northern city, where a giant temple was built to be a crowning achievement of Hindu majoritarianism. Some party members believe it may have driven away some Modi supporters who are not hard-core Hindus.

Ukraine said it hit Russia with a U.S.-provided weapon

Ukraine’s forces used an American-made long-range rocket system to strike missile launchers inside Russia, a Ukrainian official said today. It was the first time that Ukraine has publicly acknowledged firing a U.S.-provided weapon into Russia since President Biden lifted a ban on such attacks last week.

The Ukrainian description of the strike could not be confirmed. But a video that was verified by The Times showed burning Russian military equipment and a swirling plume of smoke after a strike just outside of Belgorod on Sunday. Experts said the range and the precision of the attack suggested that an American weapon had been used.

For more: The Times put together the first comprehensive picture of what Ukraine has lost, building by building and block by block. Take a look .

The U.S. is reviewing MDMA therapy for PTSD

The Food and Drug Administration is considering whether to approve the use of MDMA, also known as Ecstasy, for treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder . An independent panel is expected to vote tonight on whether the treatment would be effective and whether its benefits outweigh the risks.

My colleague Dani Blum explained why the treatments currently available for PTSD are not a good match for everyone .

More top news

Gaza: President Biden said that there was “every reason” to believe that Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, is prolonging the war for political gain .

Congress: Attorney General Merrick Garland accused House Republicans of peddling conspiracy theories and feeding “heinous” threats against the Justice Department.

Hunter Biden: The prosecution and the defense presented their opening statements in his trial on federal gun charges.

Politics: Wisconsin charged three Trump allies in a fake electors scheme .

A.I.: Whistleblowers at OpenAI released an open letter describing what they say is a culture of recklessness and secrecy .

Louisiana: Lawmakers sent a bill to the governor that would allow judges to order surgical castration for people who have been convicted of sex crimes against children.

Science: A family in North Dakota discovered a rare juvenile skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus rex while on a hike.

Gambling: Major League Baseball permanently barred San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano from the league for placing hundreds of bets on baseball .

TIME TO UNWIND

Cyndi lauper is gearing up for a final chapter.

At 70, Cyndi Lauper has nothing left to prove, but she feels as if her abilities to perform may soon wane. So she announced this week that she would stage a major tour this fall for the first time in more than a decade. She is calling it the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour, after the 1983 song that she still holds up as the key to decoding her artistic perspective.

My colleague Amanda Hess recently spent a day with Lauper discussing how the pop icon is preparing for her goodbye performances.

Test your knowledge of trademarked foods

America is saturated with food trademarks: Pop-Tarts and Cronuts each have one, and so does Broccolini and even grapes that taste like cotton candy. But the government’s calculations behind choosing to legally protect a product are complicated and not always consistent. Sure, Häagen-Dazs deserves a trademark, but what about In-N-Out’s Double-Double burger, or Honeycrisp apples?

Take our quiz to see if you can distinguish the names that have legal protections from those that do not.

ONE LAST THING

Are wedding sneakers a power move.

Pairing sneakers with a suit is, according to our men’s wear writer, a terrible idea. Unless, perhaps, you are Rupert Murdoch, the billionaire media mogul who married his fifth wife over the weekend at his Tuscan-style vineyard in Los Angeles.

Murdoch’s new bride, Elena Zhukova, wore an off-white cocktail dress with matching pumps. He, on the other hand, paired his suit, tie and pocket square with black-and-white running shoes — a decision some saw as a don’t-care play by a man with everything. But for a 93-year-old at a lawn wedding, it may have also been just common sense.

Have a snazzy evening.

Thanks for reading. I’ll be back tomorrow. — Matthew
