Bruce Hornsby and yMusic have joined forces to present BrhyM: A Collaborative Concert Experience, commencing in 2024 with U.S. tour dates. The concert experience will combine the musical efforts of American acclaimed pianist Hornsby–known as a member of the Grateful Dead in the early ‘90s–and the contemporary classical ensemble yMusic to showcase new collaborative classical and pop sounds, as well as Hornsby’s impressive solo catalog.
Following the New Year, the tour will pick up on March 7 at the Foellinger Great Hall in Urbana, Ill. BrhyM will run through the midwest with stops in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Missouri before landing for two gigs along the Eastern Seaboard–North Carolina and Virginia. The ensemble will then trek cross country to The Golden State for shows in Carmel, Calif., San Francisco, Santa Rosa, San Luis Obispo and Thousand Oaks. BryhM will close out the remaining dates with a stop in Seattle and a final performance in Denver at the Paramount Theater on Apr. 23.
Previously, Hornsby and yMusic previously coupled their musical efforts for a five-show tour in 2020. “yMusic and I performed a brief 5-concert tour in late February/early March 2020, ending approximately 1 week before the world shut down for COVID.” Hornsby added, “We had such a good time playing those five gigs that we kept collaborating remotely during the pandemic and wanted to do this all again under a new name — BrhyM.”

Hornsby + yMusic = BrhyM

By Jeff Maisey
Grammy-winning piano man Bruce Hornsby, known for his pop hits “The Way It Is” and “Mandolin Rain,” has a new collaboration project where he teamed with experimental chamber ensemble yMusic for a refreshing new album — “Deep Sea Vents.”
Pop artists such as Elvis Costello and the likes of bluegrass star Bela Fleck have delved into classical and World Music crossover efforts with reasonable artistic success. Hornsby’s is a gem.
“This is something that grew organically,” said Hornsby by phone. “I heard them (yMusic) at a festival in 2018 and was floored by what I heard.”
Hornsby invited yMusic to perform at Funhouse Fest in Williamsburg, a 3-day event he programmed in collaboration with Virginia Arts Festival.
Hornsby said the musical relationship evolved after the classical musicians played on his “Absolute Zero” recording, and then Covid hit. While the entertainment industry shuttered, Hornby and yMusic continued to work on music remotely.
With “Deep Sea Vents,” Bruce Hornsby literally deep dives and sets off on an otherworldly exploration of uncharted territory, discovering some unexpected, unusual beauty.
“Wild Whaling Life,” the opening track, is considered the song of focus — the hit — that’s destined for radio play on eclectically programmed stations. The violins of yMusic replicate the calling sounds of whales and gulls, the movement of the music is as fluid as ocean currents, and floating on top — a memorable vocal melody.
“It’s so funny you said violins sounding like whales,” Hornsby said during our conversation. “Of course, that’s also what I took.
“It was serendipitous,” he continued. “At the time, I was reading ‘Moby Dick.’ So that was in my head. The woodwinds and violins sounded like seagulls, and then as you say, whales. So I just thought I’m going to write this out of this book I’m reading. That’s how that happened.”
“(My) Theory of Everything,” the album’s second song, is fascinating as the choice of note progressions veer off in most unexpected tangents, taking the listener’s ear off course.
“We had written just two songs,” Hornsby said. “‘Deep Sea Vents,’ about the very strange occurrences way down deep in the ocean, and ‘Wild Whaling Life.’ This was pointing a way to me that this is becoming an aquatic themed record. I guess you could call ‘(My) Theory of Everything’ a scientist’s attempted barroom pickup song.”
The fluidity of the music is heard throughout the album. On “The Wake of St. Brendan,” a track that fans of Celtic music might find a kindred spirit in, makes use of a wavering, ghostly vocal melody that gives the impression of a gurgling underwater octopus’ garden aurality.
“That was just the feeling I had for the song,” said Hornsby. “To me it reminded me of old Tommy James records, you know, ‘Crimson and Clover.’”
One song stands out as stylistically different on the album — “Deep Blue” — with its weaving of elements of funk, jazz, classical, and Indian (electric sitar played by Bruce Hornsby).
“It’s know as a psychedelic instrument like used on ‘Paint It Black’ by the Rolling Stones,” Hornsby said of the electric sitar. “I had just bought it the year before and hadn’t used it yet. I brought it out for this. It was a real challenge to play both instruments (piano and electric sitar) and sing at the same time. I’m not quite doing it well yet during rehearsals for this tour.”
Local music enthusiasts and fans of Bruce Hornsby are lucking out as the March 21 performance is one of just 15 on this springtime tour.
Of the 10 new songs featured on the album, Bruce Hornsby and yMusic will perform eight along with several of Hornsby classics and tracks from his more recent recordings.

The distinctive American songwriter, pianist and three-time Grammy Award-winner, Bruce Hornsby, is joined by yMusic, the genre-leading contemporary classical ensemble, for a performance showcasing new collaborative compositions plus other favorites from Hornsby’s illustrious catalog.
Based out of Williamsburg, VA, Bruce Hornsby first rose to national prominence with The Way It Is , his 1986 Grammy-winning debut album with The Range. The title track became the most-played song on American radio in 1987 while Tupac Shakur’s timeless song “Changes” builds on “The Way It Is” and set the stage for many subsequent versions of the track. In 1991, Hornsby collaborated with Bonnie Raitt, playing on her iconic hit “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Additionally, Hornsby was a part-time member of the Grateful Dead from September 1990 to March 1992, performing over 100 concerts in America and Europe. The 13-time Grammy nominee has also solidified his status as a highly sought-after collaborator. Hornsby’s own 23 albums have sold over 11 million copies worldwide, and he has appeared on over 100 records including releases with Bob Dylan, Don Henley, the Grateful Dead, Stevie Nicks, Ricky Skaggs, Bob Seger, Chaka Khan, Bon Iver, Brandon Flowers, Bonnie Raitt, Sting, Mavis Staples, Willie Nelson and more. His most recent studio album, ‘Flicted , was released May 2022.
Founded in New York City in 2008, yMusic (Alex Sopp, flutes/voice; Hideaki Aomori, clarinets; CJ Camerieri, trumpet/horn; Rob Moose, violin; Nadia Sirota, viola; Gabriel Cabezas, cello) believes in presenting excellent, emotionally communicative music, regardless of style or idiom. Their virtuosic execution and unique configuration have attracted the attention of high profile collaborators—from Paul Simon to Bill T. Jones to Ben Folds—and inspired original works by some of today’s foremost composers, including Andrew Norman, Caroline Shaw, Nico Muhly, Missy Mazzoli, Marcos Balter, Judd Greenstein and Gabriella Smith. They have performed around the world in venues of all sizes, including the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and Madison Square Garden.

yMusic: Tiny Desk Concert

Back in 2008, the same year my colleagues Bob Boilen and Stephen Thompson dreamt up the idea for these Tiny Desk concerts, a cohort of freelance musicians formed in New York, calling itself yMusic (referring to "Gen Y" millennials). That random aligning of planets has now resulted in this terrific performance at the NPR office space with four original compositions in a musical language that borrows from classical and pop but could only be yMusic.
The band's unique sound is born not only from the tight construction and performance of the music, but also from the yMusic's quirky setup. How many other sextets of trumpet, clarinet, flute, violin, viola and cello do you know?
The set opens with "Zebras," inspired by the frenzied clicking keys of Mark Dover's bass clarinet. Music emerges softly but takes flight when flutist Alex Sopp doubles on vocals. Chugging rhythms propel "Flood" as solos are passed around, while the more contemplative "Peter Inn" showcases lovely muted colors in the winds, with intrepid trumpeter CJ Camerieri switching to French horn. "The Wolf" closes the set with yMusic rising to its loudest, driven by a clever yipping theme in the winds as cello and viola slide up the scale.
yMusic is completely at home backing up the likes of Paul Simon , The National and Dirty Projectors , or performing music it has commissioned from today's top composers, including Andrew Norman and Caroline Shaw , at upscale venues like Carnegie Hall. Genres be damned.

Bruce Hornsby Announces Joint Album with yMusic, Shares Single “Deep Blue”: Stream
The collaborative album will arrive on March 1st
Bruce Hornsby and the experimental chamber ensemble, yMusic , have come together to form a new project, dubbed BrhyM. They’ll release their first album, Deep Sea Vents , on March 1st via Zappo Productions / Thirty Tigers. As a preview, the lead single,”Deep Blue,” is out today.
First meeting at the Eaux Claires Festival in 2016 — where they performed back-to-back sets — Hornsby and yMusic have been collaborating for several years now, releasing tracks and appearing live together. Deep Sea Vents , though, will be their first full-length collaborative effort, and if the single “Deep Blue” is any indication, fans can expect the album’s 10 tracks to present inventive arrangements, blending funk, folk, soul, and orchestral instrumentations.
For example, “Deep Blue” is carried by its funky bassline, but colored by melodic interjections from pianos, strings, and even an electric sitar. Speaking about the track Hornsby said: “yMusic may be the funkiest, groovingest chamber group in all the land! Plus, I’m making my recorded debut as an electric sitarist on this piece — I have a limited range and not much ability, granted, but I feel it added a wry, exotic, and soulful texture to the song, so why not?”
Explaining the meaning of the track, Hornsby said: “In eighth grade we had a poetry section in English class, and Stephen Crane ( The Red Badge Of Courage ) was on the list. For some reason some of my friends and I thought two of his poems were a scream, so we never forgot them, and I couldn’t get them out of my mind after creating this track so just started singing them — voilà. The rest fairly much wrote itself, and Rob [Moose] and CJ [Camerieri] took over from there.”
Moose and Camerieri are both members of yMusic, along with Nadia Sirota, Gabriel Cabezas, Hideaki Aomori, and Alex Sopp. The group was first founded 16 years ago, and has since collaborated with other major artists, such as John Legend, Paul Simon, and more. Moose co-produced Deep Sea Vents along with Hornsby, and the album will feature guest appearances by jazz greats Branford Marsalis, Mark Dover, and Chad Wright. Pre-orders are ongoing, and you can check out the artwork and tracklist below.

Dozens of artists hit the road during 2023 to bring their music to sold-out venues across the globe.
The first half of the year started off strong with artists and bands like Harry Styles, Journey, Carrie Underwood, SZA, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Reba McEntire, Janet Jackson, Lizzo, Blink-182, Charlie Puth, Billy Idol, Wiz Khalifa, Bebe Rexha and Black Pink heading out on their headlining tours.
Some artists had such sought-after tickets for their tours, including Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, that it led to sites, such as Ticketmaster, completely crashing when tickets dropped.
Many summer nights were also filled with good tunes this year as artists including Alicia Keys, Post Malone, Paramore, Chris Stapleton, Boygenius, Lionel Richie, Melissa Etheridge and Maggie Rogers set out on tours during the warmer months.
Concert tours are not only an opportunity for artists to promote their latest albums or to highlight their entire music catalogs, but it’s also a chance for their fans to come together to celebrate the music and musicians that they look up to and love. Those attending shows for artists such as Swift, Beyoncé and Styles often dress to impress, going all out for their outfits. Beyoncé even asked her fans to specifically come to her Virgo season concerts for her Renaissance World Tour decked out in silver and chrome, to celebrate her astrological sign. Swifties, inspired by the lyric “Make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it …” from her song “You’re on Your Own, Kid,” made themed bracelets to trade and hand out to other fans at each of the stops on her Eras Tour.
The performers often praise their fans for all their love and support, like Swift writing on social media in July after her stops in Seattle, Washington, “Thank you for everything. All the cheering, screaming, jumping, dancing, singing at the top of your lungs.”
But if you missed the opportunity to see your favorite artists earlier this year, don’t worry, because The Hollywood Reporter has compiled a list of some of the most anticipated concert tours happening this fall, below.

The. Best. Night. Of. My. Entire. Life. This was the second time for me to see Adele. Last time I was quite high up, this time I was in Golden Circle. The atmosphere was incredible, Adele made me feel like I was the only one there in a packed out stadium. The banter she has with her audience in hilarious, she includes everyone and t feels like you're hanging out with your best mate you've known for years. As for her songs, the emotion and passion she sings with is just so raw and heart warming, I cried so many tears. You can tell she has an absolute ball on stage and she has so many upbeat songs and the sass she has is unreal- it cracks me up every time! I feel so grateful to have been apart of this tour and so happy that Adele decided to share this experience with every single one of us. I hope she has the most relaxing break with her family and hope she knows we'll always be here for her whenever/ if she decides to come back. Xx
The War on Drugs
Grace is a highly underrated quality for a rock band to possess. When compared to other, more universal assets like rawness, volume and ability it might seem a little forgettable, but a band playing to the absolute best of their ability and making it look as natural as breathing can be the genesis of some truly unforgettable moments of live music. Not one band that I’ve seen sums this sight up as well as Philadelphia indie rockers The War on Drugs, and when it comes to their sold out show at the Koko, Camden’s most ornate venue, most traditional phrases describing a well played gig seem too violent to sum it up. They didn’t “smash it”, they didn’t “blow the roof off”, they didn’t “destroy the place”, they were far better than that. Make no mistake, Adam Granduciel and co played up a storm, their psychedelia inflected country-rock filling every inch of this beautiful venue but the atmosphere was unlike any gig I’ve been to in a very long time. The crowd lost themselves in the music in a way that didn’t lead to mindless moshing and crowd-surfing, the 1400 people were enraptured, moved by the music, not to the music. It was an experience as beautiful as it was exciting and anyone with a passing interest in this life affirming lunacy we call Rock and Roll should seek it out as soon as possible.
HAIM delivered everything I expected at this show, and more! This band has so many different things going for it, that it is hard not to see them having a long successful career. As a matter of fact, in the music business of old, when there were not 10 zillion bands out there, HAIM would be playing arenas and probably making Fleetwood Mac kind of money…The Wiltern isn't the best sounding venue for sure, but HAIM overcame this and totally kicked ass, playing the tunes off of "DAYS ARE GONE" with passion and skill. As good as they all are, (and special kudos also to drummer Dash and keyboardist Tommy) it is hard not to focus on Danielle Haim and her major rock star charisma. It doesn't hurt that she rips it up on guitar and is a pretty kick ass drummer too…All in all, HAIM was amazing, and I would go back tonight if I could get a ticket...
Courtney Barnett
A mind-blowing live personality, a revelation! A huge spontaneous crush! Power, cheekiness, everything that can reinstate one in the love for women and music. A never again to be missed!
Absolutely the best concert I was ever at, honestly I don't think any other artist could top this. She had such an incredible presence on stage, every eye was on her and her wonderful team. Dua and her dancers moved gracefully and fluidly, with bursts of power and energy. Her vocals were insanely beautiful, every word was sung with such passion and love. Her grand finale of IDGAF and New Rules was simply amazing, with breathtaking choreography and stunning visuals behind her. The band sounded great and the backup vocalists and dancers were on point for every minute. Without a doubt in my mind it was the very best live performance I have ever seen, and I don't think anything in the future will ever compare to it. Dua Lipa, Olympia Theatre, Dublin. Monday 9th April 2018.
The most incredible, angelic, beautiful person to ever grace this earth. I've never been more stunned by a performance. SZA met and exceeded all of my expectations, I cannot put into words how amazing she is live. It's an experience you don't want to miss if you get the chance to see her. She was so happy and humble and was continuiously appoligizing for being sick and I honestly couldn't tell, that's how great she is. Also the experience brought me life not only because I got to see her preform but because everyone was singing every single word to every song with her. Truly incredible when you are surrounded in a room full of people singing your favorite songs at the top of their lungs. Needless to say I want a live version of ctrl after all of this so I can reminisce.
Music artists
For new users looking to follow their favorite bands and performers, our Artists pages are often the best place to start.
Whether you're on our site, or using our free app for iPhone and Android, the Songkick artists search engine is the fastest and simplest way to keep track of who's doing what right now. Be the first to learn which acts are touring, when they might be playing a venue near you, and how to get tickets for any future shows you like the sound of.
Looking to discover someone new? Hey, you’re our kind of music fan. That's why we've also included upcoming Live Stream Concerts alongside our artist searches, meaning you can easily schedule a more casual drop-in from the comfort of your couch.
Since launching our first app back in 2007, you guys - the fans, the concert-goers, the musical explorers - have been at the very heart of everything we do here. Our dream and our drive was always to bring Songkick members closer than ever before to the sounds they love, and the people who create them. Simply put, we pride ourselves on being your direct link to the greatest music artists on the planet.
Who are they, exactly? Well, according to our members, that changes almost by the hour...so let's talk about how Songkick keeps you in the loop.
Best live artists
A quick glance at our Most Popular Artists chart might tell you a few key things about the sorts of music fans we vibe with. For starters, it shows just how varied our members' tastes are. Pop, rock, dance, hip-hop, indie/alt and R&B all feature heavily, alongside a whole bunch of underground genres and rising scenes.
No two of you are quite the same - and frankly, we love to see it! Any time you check in, our 'most popular artists worldwide' and 'trending artists this week' leaderboards always read like a line-up for the greatest, most diverse live festival on Earth.
Among the top searches and best-selling music artists on our global roster, you might find anyone from Rhianna, Coldplay, Eminem and Ed Sheeran, through to Drake, U2, Kanye West,
Maroon 5, Beyoncé, The Midnight, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, Imagine Dragons, Justin Bieber - and that's barely looking outside the top 20.
After all, if the weekly race for a spot on our most popular charts tells us anything, it's that the whole concept of 'best live bands' is a tricky one to pin down. Everybody's looking for a completely different type of experience, every night of the year.
That's another thing we love about our users: you're incredible at keeping us on our toes. In return, we’ve made it our mission to help keep you on yours.
Find and follow your favorite artists on Songkick
When people talk about the 'best live bands in the world', a few big names will reliably come up time and time again. Just as crucially, there'll always be a good handful of newcomers, hot tips and total curveballs in there too.
For us and our members alike, that's a huge part of what keeps the live concert scene so fresh and exciting. There's nothing quite like the thrill of discovering a new favorite artist you'd previously never even heard of - and when that discovery involves a performer blowing you away with an incredible live show or streamed concert, the feeling is enhanced tenfold.
Songkick started out with the goal of helping you capture that moment as often as possible. Now, more than a decade into this, it's 100% what we're still about today.
New members visiting our site or downloading the app can use our powerful search tools to stay ahead of the game. Simply log in with a user profile to keep tabs on more than 6 million bands, shows, festivals and live streams. Six Reasons Why Going To Gigs Alone Is The Best
So you want to go see that metalcore band you love but none of your friends like that “shouty” music? Or you REALLY want to go check out that new artist on TikTok you discovered but all your mates won’t go to a gig where they only know one song? Or worse, your group of friends cannot get themselves organized and work out which show and when to go on a tour, so you’re worried you’ll miss out on tickets. Let them be miserable and start living your best life by going to concerts by yourself. Trust us, it’ll be the best thing you’ll ever do!
Going to gigs alone can be daunting. What am I going to do with myself in between sets? Are people going to think I’m weird? Why would I not want to share the experience?
Listen, we are all for sharing the experience, but sometimes it’s either missing out or going alone, and in those cases we definitely recommend going alone. Here’s a few reasons why you’ll never regret it once you build up the courage to go through with it.
1 . See artists you really REALLY want to see
Imagine the FOMO of missing your favourite band on their new tour, hearing all those new songs live, seeing everyone post about it. Don’t let that happen, and get that ticket. Plus you then get to tell the pals who didn’t want to come how you saw that band or artist before they blew up or how they played that one B-side track that everyone loves – now who has FOMO?
2. Meet new friends
It’s no secret that music brings people together. That moment when everyone’s favourite ballad hits and there’s not a dry eye in the building, you turn to your left or right and suddenly you bond with a stranger over your favourite song. For the metalheads, we also recommend mosh pits, follow the rules of the pit but what a way to make new friends!
3. The freedom
Now hear us out – but going to a gig alone means you can get to the venue when you want, you can go to the loos when you want, you can stand in line at the merch for hours and no one will ask if you’re sure you want to wait. And no one will drag you home when you want to wait after the show has finished and find every piece of confetti or ask for the setlist.
4 . It’s a cult
You are not alone in going to gigs by yourself, you’d probably be surprised by how many people do the same thing. Some fan groups even have entire sub cultures of going to gigs alone (shoutout to Frank Turner’s solo armada, we see you!) – bringing us back to reason #2, new friends.
5. Confidence boost
Going to a gig by yourself will do wonders for your confidence. Sure the first time might feel a bit awkward and weird, but isn’t it always? Remember your first day of school? And then it was kind of okay after a while (let’s ignore our teenage years…) Once you’ve done it and experience all of the divinity of a solo gig you’ll feel free as a bird.
6. Experience the music your way
Whether you love hanging out by the bar, need to be front row, prefer seats or want to leave a bit earlier to catch the last train – the world is your oyster! The experience is yours, you don’t need to coordinate with someone else, rely on them to enjoy the show as much as you are and have as much of a good time as you are. And frankly, if you took a chance on a new genre or new artist and it isn’t your vibe, you can just go home. Glorious.
So there you have it – doesn’t sound too bad now does it?! At the end of the day it all comes down to you and your artist, a concert will always be a shared experience whether with strangers or friends. The most important thing to do is have fun.
Your next gig awaits
It all starts here.
Create memories to last a lifetime
Whether it’s your favourite band, an evening with friends, discovering new artists or the seventh show on the tour, we are your go-to home for all things live music.

Justin Timberlake Arrested For Alleged DWI Amid Tour
J ustin Timberlake has been a busy man lately, as he’s currently promoting his new music. The Grammy winner marked the release of his latest album, Everything I Thought It Was , months ago, and is currently in the midst of a tour. Now, it would seem that the multi-hyphenate is dealing with a legal situation. Per reports, Timberlake has been arrested for alleged DWI. As of this writing, neither he nor his representation has provided comment on the situation.
The “Mirrors” singer was reportedly in New York on Monday night when authorities took him into custody and, as of Tuesday morning, he remains in the charge of the police. Variety has been told by local law enforcement that the artist is set to be arraigned on at least one charge of driving while impaired. A statement has yet to be provided by the police but, according to the trade, one is set to be released sometime on Tuesday
His latest album, which has received mixed reviews, served as the jumping off point for this latest musical excursion, which is called The Forget Tomorrow World Tour. Variety notes that the singer/songwriter had most recently been scheduled to perform two shows at Madison Square Garden in New York next week. And he also had another pair of concerts lined up for the United Center in Chicago. In the aftermath of his arrest, it’s currently unclear if any changes will be made to this slate.
Recently, Justin Timberlake has been promoting the tour on social media, sharing tidbits here and there. Some of those posts, which give insight into the behind-the-scenes aspect of the tour have gone viral over the past few months as well. (Aside from that buzz, Timberlake’s l-sit ring chin-ups boosted him to viral status not too long ago.)
The past year has seen a number of ups and downs for the “Man of the Woods” performer. Last August, he made headlines when it was reported that he’d be teaming up with his NSYNC bandmates for a new song on the Trolls Band Together soundtrack. The group did eventually reunite at the VMAs and to much fanfare. Said buzz became so strong that rumors began to suggest that they’d all go on tour, but no such event has come to fruition.
Aside from all that, last year also saw Justin Timberlake face backlash for the sentiments written about him in ex-girlfriend Britney Spears’s memoir. It was said that ahead of the release, the prospect of Spears’ revelations coming to light was “eating at him.” Fans also aimed negative messages at the performer’s wife, Jessica Biel. The backlash became so strong that Timberlake shut off Instagram comments , though they’ve since been restored and have been active amid his tour.
What results from Justin Timberlake’s recent arrest remains to be seen. Though it’s likely that in the coming days and weeks, more details will be clarified beyond what’s included in the authorities’ statement.
Robert Plant, Alison Krauss are a bewitching pair onstage with Zeppelin and their own songs
VIENNA, Va. – By now, the pairing of Robert Plant , he of legendary rock god immortality, and Alison Krauss , she of bluegrass royalty, no longer seems puzzling.
After 17 years of musical fellowship – give or take a few in between to tend to other projects – these two are simpatico. A pair of musicians who revel in every harmony, appreciate every nuance on fiddle or upright bass and genuinely enjoy sharing the air between them.
At their sold-out show Tuesday at Wolf Trap in northern Virginia, Plant and Krauss met at center stage, briefly touched hands and finger-snapped through “Rich Woman,” the first song on their debut album together, 2007’s Grammy-winning “Raising Sand.”
Backed by an excellent five-piece band including notable guitarist JD McPherson, who also opened the show, and drummer Jay Bellerose, who spent 90 minutes making very difficult drum patterns look effortless, Plant and Krauss captivated during their 16-song set.

Drawing from “Raising Sand” and 2021’s long-awaited follow-up, “Raise the Roof,” the duo merged vocals over the rootsy guitar and springy, foot-stomping beat of Randy Weeks’ “Can’t Let Go.”
Plant, an onstage fan blowing his mane with true rock star élan, possesses a voice that remains expressive and robust and Krauss, well, to call her singing angelic does a disservice to its beguiling appeal.
A demure presence onstage, Krauss, 52, layered her hypnotic voice over the sultry crawl of The Everly Brothers’ “The Price of Love” while her fiddling added a dose of mournfulness to the fade out of “High and Lonesome.”
While the show fluctuated in pacing, there was no doubting that many in the crowd hoped to rock a little.
Plant obliged – “Want some tempo?” he asked with a grin – and gave a nod to multi-instrumentalist Stuart Duncan, who sawed his fiddle as a replacement for the iconic drum opening of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll.”
Even as an elder statesman of 75, Plant couldn’t resist swiveling his hips to the “been a long lonely, lonely time” lyric and thrilled the audience further when he hit a bit of a peak-era yowl at song’s end.
Led Zeppelin’s catalog received more of the spotlight than on previous Plant/Krauss outings, with the pair merging unfettered vocals (him) and mesmerizing fiddle (her) on “Please Read the Letter” (technically a Plant/Jimmy Page collaboration) and basking in the Celtic punch given to “Gallows Pole.”
While Plant graciously indulged fans’ desire for Zeppelin songs – even as the authentically rootsy reworkings they’ve become – he was equally interested in the current, praising the “amazing ensemble” of musicians (“I’ve been resurrected!”) and introducing Krauss as “the woman who saved me from the fire.”
A backdrop of mandolin introduced “The Battle of Evermore,” which built to an explosive crescendo of vocalizing. But “When the Levee Breaks,” which the pair recently released in recorded form, brought the main set to a frenetic, soul-gripping close.

The song’s mystical vibe was punctuated by duel fiddling from Krauss and Duncan, the latter winding into a fury of notes, as Krauss couldn’t help but smile watching him play. Plant, meanwhile, also stepped back in admiration, clapping his hands to a never-ending beat.
The Plant/Krauss run, which started earlier this month, rolls through September , with some dates as part of the Outlaw Music Festival Tour with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson.
What they’ve crafted together is mostly Americana, a bit rock, some blues and a little bluegrass. It's not only an appealing blend, but undeniably visceral.
