Collective intelligence refers to the capacity of a community to bring intelligence and knowledge together in order to advance towards a common goal. It results from the quality of the interactions between its members. This idea is the very essence of collective intelligence: the pooling of its imagination, ability to think and solve problems.

“Far from hurting me, the one who differs from me, enriches me.” Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Le Petit Prince author

From Antiquity, Aristotle already posed the question of collective intelligence: “it is indeed possible that the majority, each member of which is not virtuous, united together is better than the elite, not separately but collectively […]. Since there are so many of them, each has a share of virtue and wisdom, and from that meeting, the mass becomes like one man, with many feet, and several hands, and provided with many sensations, and so does the same for his character and intelligence. “(Aristotle, extract from Politics, book III, chapter XI).

Tips for Student Travelers in Paris

Student Travel:  Student discounts are less common in France than in other countries, simply because young people under 26 are usually offered reduced rates. Some discounts only apply to residents of E.U. countries, who will need to prove this with a passport, ID card, or driver’s license, but if you’re not from the E.U. it’s worth carrying an ID to prove your age and announcing it when buying tickets. Look out for the Ticket Jeunes when using the Métro. It can be used on a Saturday, Sunday, or bank holiday, and provides unlimited travel in zones 1 to 3 for 4€ (see “By Public Transport”). SNCF also offers 25 percent off for under-26-year-olds traveling on national trains ( www.oui.sncf ).

Note : This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. Please be sure to confirm all rates and details directly with the companies in question before planning your trip.

We currently offer an array of study abroad programs in Paris with varying lengths – as short as four weeks or as long as 18! Make sure the time of year – as well as the time commitment – aligns with your plans, and we’ll work with you to find a program that works best.

Step #2: Find a program you’re passionate about.

CIEE offers many different programs in a wide range of disciplines, so make sure to do your research and discover a course that fits best with your interests and passions. Studying abroad in Paris is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and you want to make sure the courses you’re studying speak to you!

EXPLORE PROGRAMS IN PARIS

Step #3: Verify your eligibility.

Some study abroad programs have different requirements based on GPA, language skills, credit requirements, and areas of study. So, make sure to check these before you set your heart on a program to ensure you meet the requirements.

Step #4: Create a budget for your adventure .

While studying abroad in Paris can be comparable financially to continuing your studies in the U.S., exploring a new international city can come with additional costs. Good news – we offer millions of dollars in scholarships and grants each year to ensure that students who want to study abroad have the ability to do so . It’s a smart idea to connect with your college’s study abroad office too because they may know of other scholarships available to students just like you.

Step #5: Apply!

Make sure to triple-check program deadlines and fill out an application in time to study abroad in Paris – the croissants are calling! And, if you have any questions about the process, we’ve created a series of short videos all about the application process covering everything from your application timeline and scholarships and grants to CIEE program types and application tasks.

Go for Gold: An Olympics-Size Trip to Paris

student trip to paris

So, you have a flight to the City of Light this summer. Fantastic—but you’re not alone. Voted the New York Times’ No. 2 place to go in 2024 (behind the “place” that is chasing the total solar eclipse across North America in April), a visit to Paris for the Olympics is a bucket-list trip for millions this summer.

France already is the world’s most visited country by international travelers, and several global and French government agencies expect 11 to 15 million visitors for the Olympic Games this summer. The events run July 26 to Aug. 11, with the Paralympics occurring Aug. 28 to Sept. 8. The official Paris 2024 Olympics website calls it the “biggest event ever organized in France.” That seems surprising for a popular tourist city that hosts the finale of the Tour de France along the Champs-Élysées, annual Fashion Week events, and world-renowned art and food expos. Like football fans who flocked to Minneapolis when it hosted the Super Bowl in 2018, many visitors may not have tickets to the actual Olympic events. Still, they will have activities to attend in the area—while aspiring to rub elbows with the athletes, cheering on favorite qualifiers, or just celebrating the spirit of the event.

student trip to paris

My daughter once lived in Paris as an exchange student, so I’ve become a frequent visitor (I was there in July and November last year). I also was a one-time attendee of the Paralympics, in London in 2012. So, I’m here to offer some travel tips. Overall, know that Paris will be hot (air-conditioning is an amenity, not the norm), crowded (see attendance expectations), and expensive (reports of price gouging are rampant). You’ll also want to book all tours and excursions in advance because many are timed entries for crowd control. That may not sound like a foundation for a gold-medal experience, but it helps level-set expectations.

The first must-see is the River Seine, which cuts through the city and divides the north and south sides, or Right and Left Banks. There are 20 neighborhoods, called arrondissements. The Seine circles around, a bit like the way the Mississippi River complicates St. Paul and Minneapolis, but makes navigating the city easier. For lodging, dining, or attractions, be aware of which arrondissement it’s in. They aren’t sequential and don’t make much geographical sense; instead, they’re spiral-shaped and numbered, bafflingly, starting in the middle. The Right Bank has 14 of the 20 arrondissements, including the Notre Dame Cathedral, Louvre Museum, and the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Montmartre. The Left Bank consists of the other six and includes the Eiffel Tower and Latin Quarter. For lodging, the first arrondissement, near the Louvre, is my favorite. Meanwhile, the Olympic Village is outside of Paris, to the north in Saint-Denis.

student trip to paris

The Seine will be the star of the opening ceremonies on July 26. For the first time in modern Olympics history, the ceremonies will be outdoors and (mostly) free to spectators. Boats carrying the athletes will float down the Seine past the Eiffel Tower. Fans are invited to line the banks to cheer them on. For observing the spectacle, a few of the city’s many bridges that connect the banks will require tickets.

Other Paris landmarks are getting in on the Olympics action too. The glass dome of the Grand Palais will be on display for fencing and taekwondo competitions, and Versailles, a short drive or train trip outside of Paris, will host equestrian events in its famous gardens. Paris’ largest public square, the Place de la Concorde—where the guillotine executions occurred during the French Revolution—will serve as the forum for break dancing (yes, now an Olympic sport), skateboarding, and even some basketball activities.

The second must-do is to eat and drink. Paris is famous for its sidewalk cafes and fine dining. Spend a morning sipping strong coffee and dissecting a croissant while people-watching at Café Montorgueil, then walk over to Patisserie Stohrer for a cream tart. Open since 1730, it is the oldest bakery in the city. After several visits, one of my favorite restaurants is the tiny Le Hangar near the striking Pompidou Center. It’s not a touristy spot and can be difficult to find, but that makes it all the more delightful.

Finally, the third can’t-miss: all the biggees. Visit the Eiffel Tower at night when it’s lit up, peep the “Mona Lisa” at the Louvre, browse books at Shakespeare & Co., and walk across the street to see how reconstruction of the fire-demolished Notre Dame is coming (it’s supposed to reopen in December). Also, take a river-boat cruise along the Seine, snap a selfie in front of the giant clock window at the Orsay Museum, pop over to Versailles for a day trip, and shop like a celebrity along the Champs Élysées.

Our associate editor Emma Enebak is also a Francophile, and here are some picks from her:

  • Pink Mamma : I found this spot through TikTok while I was living in Paris over the summer. It had become a huge favorite on the app because of its perfectly Instagrammable interior. I got the truffle pizza and still regard it as the best pizza I’ve ever tasted. Push open the ominous-looking “freezer” doors in the basement to find a conjoined speakeasy bar.
  • Angelina: Stop here to try the world-famous hot chocolate and snack on macarons!
  • Dior Cafe, YSL Cafe, Kith Cafe, etc.: If you take a walk down Champs Élysées, you’ll find that a lot of the designer stores actually have cafes within them! It’s a great way to spend time in this district and feel like a part of the glitz and glam, even if you aren’t shopping designer clothes.
  • La Favorite : Another spot that has become TikTok-famous for its vibrant floral exterior—it’s hard to miss!
  • Bar Hemingway : Located in the Ritz, this is the most elegant bar I’ve ever stumbled into. All over, you’ll find objects and handwritten letters that tell the stories of some of the world’s greatest writers—including Ernest Hemingway’s actual typewriter.
  • Le Marais: In my opinion, this is the best district for shopping, especially for second-hand finds at curated vintage stores, which are around just about every corner in Le Marais.
  • Galeries Lafayette : Easily the coolest shopping mall I’ve ever been to. The department store has close links with French artists, and it shows, especially in the signature Art Nouveau stained-glass dome that hangs above visitors as they shop. The mall even offers historic and architectural guided tours of the space.
  • The YSL Museum : This fascinating look into fashion history allows a peek inside Yves Saint Laurent’s actual studio.
  • Musée de l’Orangerie: This is where you can view Claude Monet’s famous “Water Lilies,” which spans the circumference of a private room. It’s a truly magical experience.
  • Gardens and home of Claude Monet : This is a little ways out of Paris but easy to reach by train. Here, you can enter the private sanctuary of Claude Monet and stroll through the gardens that inspired some of his most famous paintings.
  • Luxembourg Gardens : This spot feels much quieter and more secluded than Tuileries and is absolutely breathtaking. The gardens are inspired by the Boboli Gardens in Florence.
  • Shakespeare & Co. : This is an absolute must—I went three times. On the banks of the Seine, this English-language bookstore has a long history as a center of expat literary life in Paris.
  • Maison Sauvage : My favorite brunch location from my time in Paris, this place serves an avocado toast that is truly a masterpiece.

Clarke Students Visit London and Paris

student trip to paris

In early May, 13 Clarke students, faculty, and friends of the University enjoyed a short-term study abroad trip to England and France. The trip is offered every other year as part of BUMG 280 Special Topics-London/Paris, taught by Instructor of Business B’Ann Dittmar.

Throughout the weeklong trip, participants saw highlights of art, architecture, and culture. In England, this included stops at Piccadilly Circus, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, and more. The second half of the journey took students to the Palace of Versailles, the Louvre, and many other locations in France.

Business Administration major and class valedictorian Emma Kanne ’24 was lucky enough to have her father, mother, and sister join her on the trip, making the memories made on the journey even more special.

“I can finally say I saw the Mona Lisa in person!” Emma said. “There were so many things to enjoy—especially the food. This was an amazing trip, and I was not ready to leave!”

In the semester leading up to the trip, students in the Special Topics class undergo a cultural pre-assessment to gauge their cultural knowledge and ability to adapt in multicultural contexts. They then use the coursework and B’Ann’s guidance to work on their personal areas for growth, as well as more broadly analyzing differences between the United States and England and France within the class.

“One of my favorite parts of the trip was watching my students demonstrate independence while learning how to navigate environments that are unfamiliar to them and learning to adapt to cultures that are different than their own,” B’Ann said. “When we returned, the students took a post-cultural assessment and the results showed that all of these students demonstrated growth in their cultural intelligence capabilities, due to what they learned in this course, and their experience with traveling abroad.”

BUMG 280 Special Topics-London/Paris is just one of several study abroad and travel opportunities available to students and alumni through Clarke University. Watch our alumni events page for future trips.

In summer, Jade Genin (daughter of the famous Parisian chocolatier Jacques Genin) offers an ice cream collection with two headliners: 'snow granitas' and ice creams. Her finely grated granitas have the texture of snow and are inspired by Japanese 'kakigoris', minus the syrups. Entirely plant-based, with no flavoring or additives of any kind, and no white sugar, they appeal to taste purists. As for the ice creams, they are made without turbines, using only premium ingredients like Tahitian vanilla and Bronte pistachio. The result? Intense flavors and an ultra-creamy texture! How to Choose the Best Student Card for Study Abroad

Key points about: credit cards for students studying abroad.

Credit cards are available for students traveling abroad with little to no credit history.

These credit cards offer reward points that can be used for travel expenses.

The best credit card for studying abroad depends on how widely it’s accepted, the associated fees, and the security features it provides.

What are the best travel credit cards for students ? Choosing the right credit card for studying abroad can empower students to enjoy the benefits of a credit card while upholding good financial habits across the globe. Here are key features to look for.

Student credit card overview

What is a student credit card? Essentially, it’s a type of credit card intended for young adults with little to no credit history who want to manage their expenses. The rewards granted can be used by students while traveling. Learn more from these student credit card FAQs .

How are student credit cards different from travel cards

A travel credit card offers rewards for spending, such as discounts on airfare, lodging, and dining purchases. Often, these cards contain benefits like Miles programs. These cards are generally designed specifically for people who travel.

A student credit card also provides rewards, but is designed specifically for students with a limited credit history. A student credit card offers cardmembers great rewards, like 2% cash back at Gas Stations and Restaurants on up to $1,000 in combined purchases each quarter with Discover it ® ️ Chrome for Students . 1 Students can accumulate rewards from their credit card use, which can be redeemed to offset costs associated with traveling, such as dining, car rentals, or transit passes.

How credit cards work abroad

Using a credit card while studying abroad works similarly to a domestic credit card. While most credit cards are accepted globally, acceptance may vary depending on the card issuer and country. Users may also expect to pay foreign transaction fees and dynamic currency conversions, depending on the card issuer.

It is crucial to notify your bank or credit card issuer of your upcoming travel dates and destinations to prevent your transactions from being mistakenly flagged as fraudulent. Failing to do so could result in your card being frozen, leaving you unable to use it while abroad. This step ensures that your financial institution recognizes your spending patterns as you travel, providing you with uninterrupted access to your funds.

Choosing the best student credit card for study abroad

What is the best credit card for study abroad students to have? Choosing the right student credit card for your travels depends on your individual needs, spending habits, and travel plans. It’s essential to compare different options and select the one that aligns with your financial goals and lifestyle decisions. Here are some things to consider when choosing the best credit cards for study abroad.

International acceptance

Before traveling, it's important to verify that your credit card is widely accepted in your destination country. By confirming the acceptance of your card's network in advance, you can avoid any inconvenience and ensure you have reliable access to your funds throughout your travels.

Discover users can use their credit cards abroad. Contactless payment is fast and easy, and available in countries that utilize the Discover network. Try our international use tool to determine whether Discover is accepted in your destination country.

Are there foreign transaction fees?

A foreign transaction fee is a charge that covers the processing costs of purchases made in a different currency. Some credit cards charge roughly 3% for each transaction initiated in a country with a different currency.

Not all credit cards charge foreign transaction fees. For example, there is no foreign transaction fee with any Discover card. Make sure you find a card with fees that fit your destination and your budget.

Travel expenses

Student credit cards offer the flexibility of redeeming cash back on a wide range of purchases. With cards like the Discover it ® Student Cash Back , students can earn significant rewards on their everyday spending. This card allows students to earn 5% cash back on everyday purchases at different places you shop each quarter like grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, and more, up to the quarterly maximum when you activate. Plus, you earn unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases – automatically.

The cash back earned can then be redeemed in various ways, including as a statement credit that can offset travel-related expenses or any other purchase, offering students versatility in how they use their rewards. This flexibility makes student credit cards a valuable tool for managing expenses, both during travel and in daily life. Explore the options to find the student credit card that best suits your financial needs and lifestyle.

Security features

Most credit cards in the U.S. come with a special chip for extra safety. When you buy something, you usually sign your name. But in places like Europe, you might need to use a Credit card PIN —a special number—every time you use your card. It's important to have a card that works everywhere. If your card only uses a chip without a PIN, you might run into trouble using it at some places that ask for a PIN.

Having greater peace of mind can make your travel experience much more enjoyable. Discover offers a $0 Fraud Liability Guarantee. With Discover, you’re never responsible for unauthorized purchases on your Discover Card account. 2

How to Escape the Olympics in Paris This Summer

Even if you’re visiting for the Games, you may want to take a cultural break like a local.

A view of a Paris park, with people sitting on outdoor chairs in front of and a handsome stone building.

By Laura Cappelle

Reporting from Paris

Construction chaos, price hikes and now mandatory QR codes to walk some city streets : As the Olympics loom in Paris, many locals are already looking to escape the Games, and come July, will head to quieter parts of France.

It’s likely that some of the 15 million visitors expected to roll into town might also want a break from the cheering crowds. Luckily, the greater Paris area and nearby regions offer plenty of opportunities to slow down and take in some French culture. Whether you’re looking to escape for an hour or for a day, here are some suggestions.

Pompidou Center

With its quirky inside-out architecture — a tangle of colorful tubes running across the facade — the Pompidou Center has been a flagship venue for contemporary art since the 1970s. For a culture break between athletic feats, stop by its “Comics on Every Floor” festival, a wide-ranging, international dive into the genre.

While the festival offers no fewer than five individual exhibitions, the biggest one by far is “ Comics, 1964-2024 ,” which contrasts American comics, Asian mangas and European trends. Graphic novels have long thrived in France: Franco-Belgian comics and, more recently, graphic novels are a huge market, and local stars including Hergé, Blutch and Catherine Meurisse are also getting their own mini-exhibitions at the Pompidou Center.

Children will also be able to sample an immersive installation crafted by the author and illustrator Marion Fayolle. The Pompidou’s wide-ranging permanent collections are a bonus, and now is a good time to catch them, since the building is set to close from 2025 to 2030 for extensive renovations.

Time commitment : 3 to 4 hours

Location : Châtelet, Rambuteau or Hôtel de Ville Metro stations

Cost of entry : €17 or €14 for concessions; centrepompidou.fr

The Catacombs

When the crowds or the summer temperatures become too much, Paris offers a compelling option: going underground. Underneath the French capital lie the Paris Catacombs, a maze of ancient mining galleries, some of which were used in the 18th century to create an ossuary.

At the time, the city’s cemeteries had become so overcrowded that they posed a public health threat. The bones of the dead were piled into the repurposed galleries, which have been open to visitors for over two centuries. As you descend the steep spiral staircase, the temperature drops to about 57 degrees, and the sounds of the streets fade.

The mile-long route is eerily introspective, with plaques here and there to guide you past the remains of six million Parisians. As the Olympics take over the city above ground, the contrast will be sharp, but beware: Since the stairs are the only point of entry, the Catacombs aren’t accessible to wheelchair users or people who need step-free access.

Time commitment: 1 hour

Location: Denfert-Rochereau station (Metro and RER)

Cost of entry: €29 (with audio guide), €23 for concessions, €10 for children over 5, free admission for children under 5. Tickets may be booked online, but only 7 days in advance; catacombes.paris.fr

The Louis Vuitton Foundation

It may look like an oversize glass sailboat, but this summer, the Louis Vuitton Foundation should be a safe haven. A quirky highlight of the Bois de Boulogne, a sprawling park on the western edge of Paris, this contemporary art museum designed by Frank Gehry has stayed away from staging sports-related exhibitions this year, unlike some of its peers.

It is a pointed choice, because the appeal of government grants as part of the Cultural Olympiad led a huge number of Parisian arts institutions to make sometimes tenuous connections between art and sports. Instead, the Louis Vuitton Foundation — inaugurated exactly a decade ago by the LVMH conglomerate — is staging a retrospective of the American painter and sculptor Ellsworth Kelly, who spent some of his formative years in postwar Paris.

Kelly’s vivid, abstract investigations of form and color are paired with an exhibition devoted to Matisse’s landmark 1911 work “The Red Studio.” The Louis Vuitton Foundation’s permanent collection is no slouch either, spanning Giacometti, Warhol and recent contemporary acquisitions. Linger at the Bois de Boulogne for a stroll through the woods before heading back to central Paris.

Time commitment: 3 hours

Location : Bois de Boulogne and Les Sablons Metro stations

Cost of entry: €16, €10 for concessions; fondationlouisvuitton.fr

Madame Arthur Cabaret

Tourists flock to the nearby Moulin Rouge, but for a more offbeat, modern cabaret experience, Madame Arthur is a go-to address in Montmartre. Once the first drag venue in postwar Paris, it reopened in 2015 with a troupe of singers and musicians that soon became the talk of the town.

There are no lip syncs here: All numbers are sung live, and Madame Arthur has the quirky habit of translating classic English-language songs into French. In addition to hearing Madonna or Britney Spears en français , you’ll learn some local earworms and sample the gender-bending fashion that has pushed French drag toward its recent renaissance.

Throughout the summer, Madame Arthur will open its doors Thursdays to Saturdays, with an 10.30 p.m. show on the main stage. You can then turn the venue into your own stage when it transforms into a nightclub.

Time commitment: An evening (with the option to stay well into the night)

Location : Pigalle Metro station

Cost of entry: €30 (standing only); madamearthur.fr

Outside Paris

The franco-american museum at the castle of blérancourt.

If all you want, after rubbing shoulders with millions of visitors during the Olympics, is to hole up in a quiet part of the countryside, Blérancourt is definitely off the beaten path. A small town northeast of Paris, it is nestled the Picardy region, where a World War I frontline ran, and which experienced harrowing destruction.

The Franco-American Museum of Blérancourt was established in the aftermath to commemorate American contributions to the war effort and the rebuilding of the region. The local castle was renovated to that end by the philanthropist Anne Morgan, the daughter of the banker J.P. Morgan. The resulting museum is a fascinating tribute to Franco-American exchanges over the years, from the shared revolutionary ideals of the 18th century both World Wars and a painting collection centered on artistic exchanges between the two countries.

Hostellerie Le Griffon , right by the entrance to the museum, will have you covered if you want to stay in Blérancourt, but for a truly peaceful break, head to the nearby Château du Mont de Guny — a small castle overlooking a valley that was recently converted into a bed-and-breakfast. From there, other historical sites are easily accessible, including the Château de Pierrefonds and the ruins of the medieval Château de Coucy.

Time commitment : 2 days

Travel: Rent a car (2 hours from Paris)

Cost : €6-8 for the Franco-American Museum; museefrancoamericain.fr

A number of small towns with impressive histories are easy to reach by train from Paris. With its medieval city center, Provins is a favorite getaway. It was a prominent own for merchant fairs in the 11th and 12th centuries, when it was owned by the Counts of Champagne, and much of the architecture form that period has been preserved, earning Provins a UNESCO World Heritage listing.

Cobbled pathways, fortifications and a dungeon are all within walking distance of the train station, and the city’s ramparts — nearly a mile long, with 22 towers dotted along the way — have been newly restored, after work was completed in 2022.

A day is enough to visit all the town’s key attractions, including the monumental Cesar Tower, the Tithe Barn and an 11th-century priory. This summer, Provins is making the most of its status as an open-air throwback to the Middle Ages, with daily shows centered on falconry and medieval jousts.

Time commitment: 1 day

Travel: Suburban train P from Gare de l’Est station (around 1 hour and 20 minutes)

Cost: €10 round trip, plus €17 for Pass Provins, which provides access to the main medieval sites; provins.net

The Domain of Chamarande

There are plenty of castles within a short distance from Paris, but the Domain of Chamarande , south of the city, has a couple of trump cards. First, if you don’t want to rent a car, it’s easily accessible from the city via the suburban train system. Second, it combines sprawling, peaceful grounds with year-round contemporary art exhibitions.

While the 17th-century castle itself is currently closed for maintenance, there is plenty to do outdoors. Bikes and boats are available for rent to tour the estate, where artworks are woven into the landscape. In 2001, Chamarande became host to a contemporary art center run by local authorities, and pieces from its permanent collection are dotted around the estate, like an oversize ladder by Philippe Ramette that leans against the castle.

This summer, temporary exhibitions also include a pop installation by Laurie Charles centered on the female body, and open-air immersive works inspired by the moving body — an artsy nod to the Olympics.

Time commitment: A day

Travel: RER C from central Paris (around one hour)

Cost: €10-15 round trip; chamarande.essonne.fr

Deauville and Honfleur

The coastline of Normandy is only two hours away from Paris by train, and some of its best-known towns offer contrasting atmospheres for a weekend away. Start with Deauville , a ritzy destination that is home to a historical casino, horse races and historical villas. Its calling card, though, is free: over a mile of wide, sandy beach, accessible directly from the city center. Its famous boardwalk boasts 450 Art Deco beach huts, adorned with the names of international actors and directors who have attended the annual American Film Festival.

The next day, make the 25-minute drive up the coast to Honfleur, a peaceful harbor town with a rich artistic history. Before the old port and its pastel-colored half-timbered houses became an Instagram dream, they inspired multiple painters: Turner painted watercolors there in 1832, followed by French artists including Claude Monet and his mentor Eugène Boudin, a precursor to Impressionism who has his own museum in Honfleur. The city’s narrow medieval streets are a joy to wander, from the many galleries to Saint Catherine’s Church, a distinctive wooden church that is the largest in France.

Time commitment : 2 or 3 days

Travel: Train to Deauville (2 hours and 10 minutes) then bus, taxi or car to Honfleur

Cost : Round trip to Deauville from around €35 (book ahead)

The Picardy region, north of Paris, generally flies under the radar compared with nearby Normandy — which makes it an appealing destination if you’d like to avoid the biggest tourist crowds. The region’s capital, Amiens , is an underrated gem an hour from the capital. Its towering Gothic cathedral is on UNESCO’s World Heritage list, and a couple of lovely museums are a short stroll away, including the former house of the 19th-century author Jules Verne.

Amiens is home to a more unusual attraction, too: 300 hectares of water gardens, right in the center of town. The city sits over the Somme river, and a delightful network of canals, ponds and market gardens developed there over centuries, known as Les Hortillonnages. Much is now ornamental, but the fruits and vegetables that are cultivated there are sold at the local market on Saturdays.

Every summer, Amiens also hosts an International Garden Festival all around the Hortillonnages, with 50 or so installations designed by gardeners, artists and architects expected this year. The area can be toured by foot, electric boat or even a rowing boat, if you’re in the mood for an adventure.

Time commitment : 1 day

Travel: Regional trains to Amiens (1 hour and 10 minutes) from Paris Gare du Nord

Cost : €46 round trip; visit-amiens.com

Inside the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics

News and Analysis

Seeking to undermine the Paris Olympics, Russian propagandists  are spoofing broadcasters and mimicking French and U.S. intelligence agencies to stoke fear about security at the Games.

Ahead of the Olympics, the global agency tasked with policing doping in sports is facing a growing crisis  as it fends off allegations it helped cover up the positive tests of elite Chinese swimmers .

Undocumented workers played a larger and more dangerous role  in delivering the Games than the Macron administration acknowledges.

A Guide to the Games

More ‘Open’ Signs: With millions of visitors expected in Paris, many shopkeepers, bakers and restaurateurs are forgoing their annual summer vacations .

Wow what is this! A French Bakery on Main Street! Ever since my trip to Paris, I stop by every French Bakery I see . When I walked in, I see beautiful, delicious bread everywhere. I was in heaven. I was about to teach a class so I got 5 pieces of pastries for my students, and a baguette for home later. Wow, just amazing. I will be back!

This is not the correct review page for Bread Savage. The correct review page is under "Bread Savage" not Bread Savage Bakery. I am sitting here with my husband for yet another wonderful, melt in your mouth experience & just happened to look up my last review for Bread Savage & noticed there was only one review, when there was several before. Not sure how to fix this. But just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

This bakery lives up to the 5 star reviews. I am originally from the Bay Area where I have access to delicious bakeries and so I wasn't sure what to expect in a small town like Visalia in terms of bakeries. This place is up there in being one of the best bakeries I have visited. You can tell they put so much love into it and the staff is wonderful. They are inclusive to all people which I appreciate and they really make you feel welcomed. Now to the pastries. They use in season fruits and have a wide variety of pastries. They make danishes, muffins, croissants, and savory pastries too. Their pastries are a little expensive like SF prices, but I believe in splurging for good quality food, so give it a try. Give them a chance and you won't be disappointed.

Compared to the Excellent French Bakeries In Southern California, this Bakery in my opinion doe not live up to the hype. Their Breads and Pastries are quite good. However over priced for the area. I've recently noticed there are quite a few Restaurants in the Area that do not have the quality, yet charge high prices. Especially in Visalia, some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had, compared to Southern California or the Bay Area. Note: In Visalia, it's either fast food, chain type restaurants or a couple of Delicious Expensive restauarants. Nothing in Between. Examples in the Los Angeles area... Brent's Deli's, Porto's, China Town, etc.

Comanche Indian Veterans Association spends day at Gold Beach ahead of D-Day anniversary

CIVA France Delegation Veterans were given the opportunity to ride in the Gold Beach Parade...

FRANCE (KSWO) - It’s been a busy day for members of the Comanche Indian Veterans Association (CIVA), as they’re wrapping up their third day in France in honor of the 80th Anniversary of D-Day.

The CIVA delegation spent the day visiting Gold Beach, which was the center beach during the D-Day invasion.

In photos sent by the delegation, you can see a US Air Force flyover with C-130′s sporting World War 2 markings.

Parts of the delegation even participated in the Gold Beach Parade with French World War II actors.

After that, they honored Sergeant Melvin Myers, a Comanche Nation warrior who landed behind enemy lines in the early morning hours of June 6, 1944 during the assault. It’s believed Sergeant Myers rescued another soldier before his death during the battle for the city of Ste. Mere Eglise, France.

Sergeant Myers is buried at the Fairview Cemetery east of Apache.

Tomorrow, June 6, is the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, and there are plenty of events going on that the CIVA delegation will be a part of.

Make sure to keep it tuned to 7News as we track their trip before they depart back to Oklahoma on June 12.

Things To Do

Author

Ever since we met in college, we have lived in the same town and spent time together often. We’ve celebrated milestones together and shared countless memories. How do I cope with the void left by her departure? How can I maintain our friendship despite the physical distance between us? While I’m excited for her new chapter and the opportunities it holds, I can’t shake the feeling of sadness and apprehension about what lies ahead for our friendship. I can handle five years without her, but I’m not sure if I could handle this permanently. — Goodbye Friend

DEAR GOODBYE FRIEND: Perhaps you don’t have to lose your friend to distance. Yes, your relationship will change when she and her family go so far away, but it doesn’t have to be the end of your bond. This is where technology can be your friend. Thanks to the pandemic, most of us learned how to use technology to see and talk to each other from a distance. You can continue to talk regularly. Perhaps you can agree to set a regular time once a week or once a month to catch up. You can plan trips to see each other, not often but sometimes. Don’t feel like your life together is over. Your friendship is just changing, and you can change with it.

DEAR HARRIETTE: I have been married for many years, and for a lot of them I have been unhappy. We have been in a sexless marriage for more years than I can count, largely because the romance was gone. I have been OK with that for a long time. I haven’t done well at tolerating the constant arguing, though.

Recently, I met a man when I was leaving the grocery store. He made a complimentary comment about my looks that honestly shocked me. I then saw him in the neighborhood another day, and he invited me to have tea with him. I did. While nothing has happened, I did start to feel those fluttery feelings inside that I haven’t felt for years — I thought that was dead in me. I don’t want to do anything inappropriate with this man, but I do want to hang on to the feelings I thought were gone forever. How can I transfer those feelings to my husband? — Reignited

DEAR REIGNITED: I’m not sure the human body and heart work that way, but you can try. It sounds like what stirred you up was a man recognizing your beauty, seeing you and appreciating you. That tenderness is something you crave. Can you remember when you got that from your husband? Perhaps you can create a scenario with him that will make him feel seen as you feel seen. If you can figure out what he craves and set that up along with what you desire, you can create a chance to rekindle your bond.

What won’t help you is starting an affair with the man you met at the grocery store. Handle your own business first. Either reconnect with your husband, or get free of him before you do anything else.
