Roll, write, route-build..

On Tour is a 20 minute route-building, roll-and-write board game with large, premium components that's good for 1 to 8 players (but can be played with as many people who have maps!). Each turn, dice determine which numbers you write while cards restrict the places you can visit.

Tour Planning Ain't So Easy

In On Tour, players compete to take their band to as many states as possible. You'll be writing a number in each state to book it for that date on your 100-day tour.

Each turn, dice determine which numbers you write and cards restrict where you can write. Players write simultaneously on their own maps, all using the same dice rolls and cards flips. Everyone is getting the same inputs, but how you choose to deal with them will determine your success.

There are also wilds, opportunities for bonus points, and a variable setup phase to make every game different.

Calling all big bands

One of our favorite things about On Tour (this is our favorite thing, it can also be your favorite thing if you want, or you can pick something else), is that you can play with any number of people!

• Mano a mano against your spouse.
• By yourself, to pass the time while you are home sick with Mono.
• With six people at game night when someone says, "Did anybody bring a game that plays six?"
• Just make sure you have a map for everyone.

The game ships with 8 maps, and 8 dry erase markers. If you want additional maps, simply purchase a second game and imagine these scenarios!

• You could even try to get a few thousand people together and set a world record.

Description.

On Tour USA and Europe is our newest version of our very popular On Tour game.

It's  a 20 minute route-building, roll-and-write board game with large, premium components. One to eight players share dice rolls and location cards to plan their band's travel and get them to as many states (for USA) or countries (for Europe) as possible during a 100-day tour.

Each turn, the dice determine which numbers you write while cards restrict where you can go. Players write simultaneously on their own maps, all using the same dice rolls and cards flips.

Everyone gets the same inputs, but it's up to you to decide what the stops will be on your map.

Make On Tour USA and Europe a party game by purchasing two and you can play up to 16 players! There's really no limit to how many players can play this game as long as you have the maps!

Hi gh quality game

This is a fun game, I own a lot of roll and writes and next to railroad ink my wife and I have probably played this one the most.

It can start to feel a bit stale after a while, but overall I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a simple to learn but hard to master roll and Write.

This is my wife’s and my favourite roll and write. Easy to get into the theme, simple rules wise, but by the end of the game you really feel the pressure to connect your tour sections together before its too late. The price is a little high,but the component quality is through the roof! 9/10 would recommend

Red 3 card is has production failure, and it's different from all other cards.

The Heat: Heavy Rain expansion is, in my opinion, a great addition to an already great game. I've seen many criticisms regarding this expansion that say it's not worth the price. My argument in response is that most people said Heat: Pedal to the Metal sold at a fantastic price for the base set. I agree with these folks when they said it was like getting a base game with multiple expansions in one box at a great price point. Given how great the base game is, I have no complaint that Days of Wonder is charging a little more for this expansion. You get the additional race car, and everything that goes along with it, 2 new tracks, and the new flooded tracks and chicanes elements. The only real complaint I have (and kept me from giving this a 5 star rating) is that they did not provide a new deck of legends cards that would incorporate the new orange car. So, if no players decide to play the orange car, you either have to not play the orange car as a bot, or you need to awkwardly assign the orange car to another car color in the deck and use that color throughout the game. I mean, come on, Days of Wonder couldn't have provided a 10 card replacement deck for this? I hope they rectify this with the 2nd expansion. Regardless, I can't wait for the 2nd expansion. I think Heat, as a game system, is a homerun for Days of Wonder.

Game Information

It was going to be great. We were going to visit most of the USA and play to millions of people over a few months. It was going to be fun, but also a lot of hard work and the planning was the most difficult. In the end, we decided to roll the dice to decide what states we were going to visit in what order, but rather than making it completely random, we turned it into a little game. It would let us build an almost circular route, so we could finally go On Tour by BoardGameTables.com .

Of course, like most roll-and-write games, On Tour 's theme isn't much more than a thin veneer. Yes, there are two maps in the box, one showing the USA, the other showing Europe. However, that's all there is to it and that's actually a good thing, because the theme would really be more of a distraction than a help.

Ultimately, all you're doing is roll two ten-sided dice, which give you two digits from 0 to 9. You then combine these two digits one way, then the other, to get two two-digit numbers from 0 to 99. Finally, you write those two numbers into two states on the map, which you can choose from those shown on cards that were drawn when you rolled the dice, and these cards limit which region or state you can write the numbers into. You get bonus points for writing numbers in the states shown on the cards, but that's not always what you want to do.

That sounds already a little complicated, but in fact is really straightforward as you start to play. What isn't straightforward though, is that you need to create the longest possible route of ascending numbers on the map, without having any crossing paths. In fact, that's the fiendishly difficult part of the game and is what makes it so much fun.

You'd think, writing a set of numbers in sequential order is easy. You'll set out with what you think is a great strategy. You decide to do a large circle around the map, so that the lowest and highest numbers are next to each other and then you string the others around the circle. You even start to draw on the map to remind you of the route you're going to take. You're confident that you can get the longest route.

So you roll the dice and the first result is a 1 and a 5. Not bad. 15 can go near the beginning of your route and 51 in the middle. The problem is, the cards that limit to where you can place your numbers don't want to co-operate. They're showing the east coast and the west coast. So fine, you put the 15 on the east coast and the 51 on the west coast. That should work.

The next roll gives you a 6 and a 7. That's actually quite good and the cards help you too, giving you the option to put them on the west coast, somewhere near 51 and near each other. That's great. In fact, you can put the 67 in a state shown on one of the cards, which will give you bonus points.

So you're off to a flying start, but of course, things start to go downhill eventually. The map is filling up and at some point you had to put 87 next to 91, leaving no space in between. The next roll is a 0 and a 9. Wow! That's bad luck. There is no room for the 90 and even the 9 won't fit, because there is no card for the east coast. You end up putting both numbers out of the way in Florida. That's a shame, but not the end of the world.

The problem is, the dice and cards continue to conspire against you. There are only so many 6 and 8 results you have room for. 86 just won't fit and 68 will force you to do a detour. It's all starting to fall apart.

As you can see, On Tour is really a rather simple game, as far as the rules are concerned, but when it comes to placing the numbers, the game gets trickier the further you get into it and you have to start finding detours and alternative routes, or abandon some numbers altogether and assign them to the rubbish heap.

All the time, you're also checking what the other players are doing. To start with everyone is probably doing something very similar, but eventually players will go their own way, because they think they've spotted an opportunity. It's fascinating to see, actually, because you think the easiest way to play this game is to simply copy another player. However, at some point you'll think that you can do better than them and just do your own thing.

So, if you're after a quick and easy roll-and-write, then On Tour is well worth giving a go. I'm not a great fan of roll-and-write games, but I do enjoy this one, which is saying a lot.

Gettin’ On the Road with “On Tour” (Board Game Review)

Calling all globetrotting music fans and strategy enthusiasts! Buckle up, because we’re taking a deep dive into On Tour , a board game that throws you onto the music scene, vying to become the biggest rockstar around. Is this game a chart-topping hit, or destined for the bargain bin? Let’s grab our backstage passes and find out!

Rockin’ the Mechanics:

• 1-8 players. 
• Creative Roll-and-write board game with large, premium components. Great board game for families, adults and kids.
• Comes with 8 maps with the United States on one side and Europe on the other.

On Tour puts you in the shoes of band managers, strategically booking gigs across the USA or Europe.  

Each turn, 3 new cards come out from the deck.  The cards each have a region, and a state in that region. In the example above we have: Utah in the West, Arkansas in the Central, and Georgia in the South.  

The active player rolls the two 10-sided dice.  In the example above, we rolled a 5 and 6.  All players must now try to have their bands visit those regions, and if possible those exact states.  Each player must use the numbers 56 and 65 (from the dice roll), and assign a numbers to 2 of the 3 different regions on the three cards.  If you decide to use the exact state on the card, you circle it. 

The tricky part is, at end of the game, you are going to draw the longest route possible, from the lowest numbers to the highest numbers hitting the most states you can.  But, you will not be able to cross your path even once!  So you are trying to plan out a van tour on the fly with each roll.

Above : an example of a final board you might have.  Your band visited a total of 19 states. 10 of those states are circled and those count as double.  So you earned a total of 29 points this game.  

Hits and Misses:

• High Replayability: Different cards come out and differing dice rolls happen every game, ensuring a fresh experience every time.
• Strategic Depth:  While accessible, On Tour offers enough decision-making to keep veteran gamers engaged.

On Tour: On the Road… Again?

You’re living the dream! You are in a band and about to go on tour! It’s your job to schedule the band’s stops over the 100-day tour, visiting as many states/countries as possible.

In 2019, Allplay (formerly Board Game Tables ) released On Tour , a simultaneous roll-and-write game about going on tour with your band. Up to eight people can play in as little as 20 minutes. It was such a hit that it has spawned a standalone sequel, On Tour: Paris & New York . We’ll take a look at both of these games and see – will the band’s sophomore adventure live up to the first, or was On Tour a one hit wonder? Let’s start off with On Tour .

Each player gets their own dry erase board and marker. Make sure everyone is playing on the same board and shuffle the matching deck of cards. Roll both dice (reroll doubles during setup) and put those two digits together to make two numbers. Below, the one and four make both 14 and 41 .

Then, draw two cards from the shuffled deck. All players write the lower number in a space in an area on the first card and the higher number in a space in an area on the second card. Circle both numbers. Repeat this process a second time. By the end, each player should have the same four numbers on their boards.

Each turn, flip the top three cards from the deck face up. Then, roll both dice. Each player must connect the two digits on the dice to make numbers as in setup, and write these two numbers on their board. Players must write these numbers in one of the regions on the displayed cards (different card for each number). If a player writes a number in the exact state or country featured on the card, they circle it.

When all three cards are for the same region, or the dice are doubles, each player draws a star (wild) in any state/country in the available card regions.

If a player cannot write a number for any reason they must mark an X somewhere on their board.

Continue until a player only has one or two empty spots left for numbers. At this point, stop flipping cards. Instead, just place the die rolls wherever they fit.

Once player boards are full, it’s time to go on tour!

Each player connects their longest route that grows from smallest to largest number. Routes can travel through multiple cities with the same number, and wilds can count as any number. Cities may only be used once, and routes cannot cross each other or be used multiple times.

Add the number of cities visited with a bonus for circled numbers visited on the tour. Whoever has the most points wins!

Paris & New York

In 2022, AllPlay developed the standalone Paris & New York expansion for On Tour . These two new maps offer more than new places to play. They also introduce new mechanics to the established formula.

I Love Paris!

In Paris , players will have to cross (and re-cross) the river Seine. To do this, if a player ends their route at a jazz club near a ferry dock, they can resume it from any other ferry dock. This allows for jumps all the way across the map!

Ferry docks cannot be reused, but players gain points for each dock “jump” they make. For example, if a player starts at dock “A” and goes to dock “B”, they would get one point. However, if the player jumps from dock “A” to dock “I”, they would get eight points! Using the ferry routes strategically is critical to winning.

Although routes cannot cross each other (as with the original On Tour ), ferry routes can criss cross without issue, as long as a player never revisits a dock.

At the end of the game, these ferry routes score in addition to the player’s touring route.

New York, New York!

New York offers different changes in the form of soloists and a borough visit bonus .

New York is the most complex On Tour , allowing players to create ferry paths from any neighborhood to any other neighborhood as long as it isn’t landlocked and it is in a different borough. However, they can only do this when one of the three cards is a ferry card, or if all three cards show the borough the player wants to connect.

In addition, instead of circling neighborhoods when they appear on cards, most cards feature a soloist . If a player draws a number in a neighborhood with a soloist showing on a card, they draw that symbol in, along with the number. If these symbols are in the player’s final tour schedule, they accumulate for a set bonus at the end.

Finally, players get a bonus if they manage to tour all five boroughs.

Impressions

On Tour is unusual in the way the mechanics provide options while still being fairly limited. Unlike many roll-and-writes that are nearly a blank canvas to start, the initial number placements give players an idea of what they’re looking to do. These limitations actually help to decrease the chance of analysis paralysis.

This is a game that benefits from the social experience of play, even without player interaction. Simultaneous cheers or groans when players roll the right (or wrong) numbers encourage a feeling of camaraderie, even though you’re trying to beat everyone else. Since you can’t impact the other players, there’s no harm in stating out loud what you want and cheering for the dice to roll in your favor. In fact, I recommend it.

On Tour doesn’t have a lot of personal strategic investment because so much of it is left to chance. This means certain gamers won’t like this style. However, it’s a great way for everyone to play together in a family, and legitimately give younger gamers a chance to win.

It’s also a nice game for younger gamers to work on their sequencing and counting. Even if they can’t handle the writing part, they can “help” count city values during scoring.

On Tour isn’t breaking new ground, but I love how approachable it is. This is a great game for a casual audience, and supporting eight players out of the box is terrific.

I preferred Europe over the US map in the original game – it just felt a little more interesting and exotic.

But really, it was the Paris & New York standalone expansion that shone for me. I see the original On Tour as a very entry-level game; Paris & New York introduces some gamer-y strategy without adding significantly to the complexity.

Aimez-vous Paris?

In On Tour , players tend to create clusters of numbers, minimizing the differences between values. This creates a need to find ways to connect these clusters to make longer routes. In Paris , the ferries allow players to much more easily (and almost for free) connect clusters completely across the board.

I love the idea of sailing the Seine in the middle of the night, lit only by lanterns with some accordion or harp in the background (I’ve watched a few Disney movies, ok?). But really, the strategy is in maximizing the value of these ferry boats. A-I followed by J-B is a stunning 14 points , which is easily enough to make a difference.

I <3 New York

I think gamers will feel most at home on the New York map. This map adds set collection to the route building, and the ferry mechanics add even more flexibility than on the Paris map (although they don’t award points). As with many games where balancing rewards occurs, New York certainly offers the most opportunities for analysis paralysis, but nothing overwhelming for the seasoned gamer.

On Tour: New York offers a great balance of gameplay depth, high player count, and short play time with the same simultaneous play as the other maps. It’s my go-to for sure.

Final Thoughts

Both versions of On Tour offer great, sturdy components with boards that don’t require a table, markers included in the box, and big, chunky cards and dice that everyone can see.

On Tour is a smooth roll-and-write for up to eight players that nearly anyone in the family can play. On Tour is great for a large family gathering with casual gamers. Then, you can break out Paris & New York when your gaming friends are over. It’s the same great game with an added twist. We’ll have Paris & New York on our gaming shelf, but be ready with On Tour during our holiday gatherings.

Dad wins almost 30,000 tickets at Butlin’s after three days on one arcade game

A dedicated dad-of-two spent three days locked in on one arcade game so that he could win prizes for his young boys at Butlin’s Skegness.

Philly Jones, from Birkenhead, was staying at the Lincolnshire seaside resort with his wife and kids in October last year when he decided to put his gaming endurance to a test.

After a mammoth 72 hours locked in on one game trying to win tickets for his kids, he got his hands on a bunch of cuddly toys .

Mr Jones started playing the candy drop ball machine inside the Skyline tent and he won game after game.

In the end, his dedication paid off as the dad racked up an impressive 27,890 tickets.

The dad, who is in his early 30s, said: ‘I tried the game and on my first go I won the jackpot! On his second attempt I won the jackpot again, and realised I was good at this game.’

Not only did Mr Jones win tickets for his two sons, but he also won a number of tickets for a young boy celebrating his third birthday and for a few other children who came to watch him play.

After hours of playing the children’s game his thousands of tickets meant his two sons could take home a range of prizes including plushies, board games, Transformer figures, squishies and light-up toys.

His wife, Rachel, was surprised to see how many tickets he had won.

She said: ‘I was shocked at the sheer scale of tickets, but not that he was winning, because he is really good at arcade games.

‘A number of staff inside the arcade saw him as they had to keep coming over to refill the tickets for him.’

2024 U.S. Open Final Payouts, Prize Money, Winnings: Bryson DeChambeau Wins $4,300,000

The U.S. Open is all in on golf's gold rush, and this week it's stepped up to offer a record-breaking $21.5 million purse, with $4.3 million to the winner. It's the largest prize purse ever to be offered at a major championship.

Purses have been increasing for many years, but the launch of LIV Golf in the summer of 2022 accelerated the money in the men's game. USGA CEO Mike Whan acknowledged as much in his comments earlier this week.

“All of those things have changed quite a bit in the last few years, and change is uncomfortable, but I think we're not only keeping up with the times, but hopefully at least in the landscape of majors, in a lot of these cases we're leading,” Whan said.

“We want to make sure that our purse matches how we feel about the best of our championships, which is a life-changing difference in the game, and I think we're there and we'll continue to kind of monitor that.”

It's indeed a life-changing amount of money on the line this week, and the winner's check belongs to Bryson DeChambeau, a U.S. Open champion for the second time.

Where to watch MLB Rickwood Field game: TV channel, Giants vs. Cardinals live stream online, time, prediction

The two clubs will be playing in a game to honor the negro leagues in birmingham.

Major League Baseball is staging a game at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, formerly home to the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro American League, on Thursday night. The San Francsico Giants and St. Louis Cardinals will square off in a regular-season game at the former home of he Black Barons. They were the team with whom Willie Mays made his professional debut in 1948 at age 17 . 

The game was already scheduled to honor the Negro Leagues and the impact they had on American professional baseball, but then Mays died earlier this week and now the contest has a feeling of greater significance. Here are the pertinent details.

MLB at Rickwood Field

Who: Giants vs. Cardinals Date : Thursday, June 20 |  Time : 7:15 p.m. ET Location : Rickwood Field (Birmingham, Alabama) Live stream : Fubo  (try for free), MLB.TV |  TV : Fox Probable pitchers : RHP Keaton Winn (3-7, 6.66) vs. RHP Andre Pallante (2-3, 4.61) Odds : SF -115 | STL -105; over/under: 90

Giants:  The Giants come in having lost four of six and one of those wins needed a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth. They have been inconsistent and overall not very good, though the 36-39 record right now means they are only one game out of the third NL wild-card spot. Winn closed April with three very good starts, but has a 13.02 ERA in five starts since. He did have a quality start last time out, but three runs allowed in six innings against the Angels is hardly overly encouraging. 

Cardinals:  The Cardinals recently played good enough baseball to rise above .500 for the first time since they were 5-4, but they've since lost two straight to the lowly Marlins , both in walk-off fashion. Sitting 36-37, they trail the Brewers by 7.5 games in the NL Central, but that's good enough in this National League for second place and the second wild-card (they are tied with the Nationals , occupying the second and third spots). Pallante was a reliever to begin the year and has only now made four starts, averaging 4 1/3 innings per start with a 3.63 ERA. He only threw 59 pitches last time out, but the bullpen got worked awfully hard in Miami with an extra-inning win and two late losses. 

First off, MLB is going to put together a pre-game video package to honor not only the Negro Leagues but also Mays. The best bet is they'll do an excellent job with at least the Mays one, probably both. 

As far as the game itself, it kind of takes a back seat at this point, rightfully, but there are plenty of reasons to watch. 

It's extremely hot, which means the ball will carry. We have no idea how this ballpark will play, obviously, but I'm betting on a slugfest.

LEXINGTON — A historic season for Kentucky baseball  is rolling on. The next stop: Omaha, Nebraska, for the College World Series .

It marks the first time the Wildcats have ever reached the grandest stage in the sport. After two previous  NCAA Tournament Super Regional appearances — both ended with UK losing in sweeps in best-of-three series on the road in 2017 ( Louisville ) and 2023 ( LSU ), respectively — Kentucky broke through at Kentucky Proud Park in a game that wrapped up after midnight Monday, taking out three-time national champion Oregon State , 3-2, to seal its spot in this year's CWS field. UK's one-run win in Game 2 came after a dominant, 10-0 triumph in Saturday's opener .

The run to their maiden College World Series is the latest example of the Wildcats exceeding outsiders' expectations. Despite winning 40 games and advancing to a super regional last year, SEC coaches expected little of UK in 2024: in a preseason poll, voted on by the league's coaches, Kentucky was picked to finish fifth in the seven-team Eastern Division .

UK proceeded to author the best start in conference play in SEC history, winning 14 of its first 15 games. The Wildcats finished with a 22-8 record in league play during the regular season. Kentucky's 22 SEC wins set a single-season record for victories in conference competition and helped it claim a share of the league's regular-season title for only the second time in program history.

The Wildcats enter the College World Series with a 45-14 record. The 45 wins are tied with the 2012 club for most in a single campaign in school history. It's Kentucky's eighth 40-win season, and coupled with its 40 triumphs last year, it marks the first time in the program's annals it reached that mark in consecutive seasons.

Among other team-wide accomplishments for the Wildcats in 2024:

• They earned a top-eight national seed in the NCAA Tournament (the No. 2 overall seed) and swept an NCAA Regional — the first time they've ever achieved either feat. In the regional, UK topped Western Michigan , Illinois and Indiana State in back-to-back-to-back games.
• They made their debut as an NCAA Super Regional host .
• Ranked as high as No. 2 in national polls, tying the highest placing in program history.
• Set single-season records for overall road wins (16) and road victories in SEC games (11).

Individually, Kentucky coach Nick Mingione was named the conference's coach of the year (voted on by his coaching counterparts in the league), while five players earned All-SEC honors: designated hitter Nick Lopez (first team), outfielder Ryan Waldschmidt (second team), second baseman Émilien Pitre (all-defensive team), third baseman Mitchell Daly (all-defensive team) and pitcher Mason Moore (all-defensive team).
