GETTING STARTED & APP PRO TIPS

How do I access the My Epic app?

Download the My Epic app from the Apple App Store or Google Play App Store. If you have the EpicMix app on your phone, it will automatically update to the My Epic app.

How do I log in to my account to activate my pass/lift ticket(s) on the My Epic app?

Once you have downloaded the app, you will be prompted to follow these instructions and activate your account and Mobile Pass or Lift Ticket:

  • If you already have an epicpass.com account, sign in using your email. If you do not have an existing account, follow the steps to Create an Account.
  • View your Mobile Pass or Lift Ticket(s) on the Home screen if you have a pass or lift ticket associated with your account.
  • Activate Pass & Bluetooth – a popup will appear asking you to enable Bluetooth. Press "Allow."

Watch a How-to Video here .

How do I ensure my pass/lift ticket(s) is appropriately set up on the My Epic app, so I know I’m all set to ski/ride and won’t get stopped at the lift when loading?

Once you have logged in and activated Bluetooth, there will be a green check mark underneath your pass or lift ticket(s) on the home screen or Pass & Tickets screen. This check mark means that your pass or lift ticket(s) will scan appropriately in the lift line using Bluetooth technology. We encourage you to check your access each day by ensuring the green check mark is present.

Watch a How-to Video  here .

Why aren't my pass/lift ticket(s) showing up in the My Epic app?

It could be because of one of three reasons:

  • You are not signed into the right account in the app: To find out if this is the case, navigate to the "Pass and Ticket" tab and click on "Search for Account." Verify the name and DOB is correct, and type in the pass number or order confirmation number. The app will instruct you on how to sign-in to the correct account associated with the active pass/lift ticket, as needed.
  • You have a Whistler Blackcomb pass or lift ticket: Mobile Pass & Lift Tickets will not be available at Whistler Blackcomb for the 23/24 season. If you have a Whistler Blackcomb pass or lift ticket, please use your physical pass or lift ticket card to access the lifts.
  • You have a pass or lift ticket that is not eligible for Mobile Pass & Lift Tickets: There are a few passes and lift ticket-types that will not be available on Mobile Pass & Lift Tickets this season. A few examples include: Whistler Blackcomb passes, Whistler Blackcomb lift tickets, Buddy tickets, Ski with a Friend tickets, lift tickets purchased day-of at the ticket window, and lift tickets purchased with a Ski and Ride School lesson.
  • You have an Android phone and you have not enabled Location & Bluetooth permissions: When the My Epic app launches for the first time, you will be prompted to enable permissions to access the device’s location. Then when you select “Pass & Ticket” for the first time, you will be prompted to enable the “Nearby Devices” permission (i.e. Bluetooth®). If you decline either the location or “Nearby Devices” permission prompts, you will see an error message on the “Pass & Ticket” screen. To resolve, select the “Allow Bluetooth® Permissions” button, and you will be taken to the settings screen where you will need to allow both the Location and Bluetooth® permissions.

For assistance, please contact an Epic Pass expert through the chat feature on this website, or call (970) 754-0190 .

How do I make sure the My Epic app will track my personalized ski/ride stats?

If you are using Mobile Pass & Lift Tickets in the My Epic app to track activity and record your ski/ride stats, you must enable GPS tracking when prompted during the login process. The app will not track activity automatically and requires active enablement of the tracking feature.

If you are using a physical pass or lift ticket card, your stats will automatically be tracked in the app and enabling GPS is not required.

How do I turn on GPS tracking for the day?

To track your stats for the day when using Mobile Pass & Lift Tickets, navigate to the tracking feature in the My Epic app and select "Start GPS Tracking." You will then be prompted to enable the My Epic app to use your location and to turn on GPS functionality.

Should I turn GPS tracking off when not using the My Epic app?

Yes, you should turn off GPS tracking when you are not using the My Epic app to save the battery life on your phone.

Will GPS tracking work if I don’t have network or Wi-Fi signals on mountain?

Cellular service or Wi-Fi is not required to use GPS tracking.

Will Mobile Pass & Lift Tickets work if I don’t have network or Wi-Fi signals on mountain?

ON MOUNTAIN EXPERIENCE

Will I need to take my phone out of my pocket to scan my Mobile Pass or Mobile Lift Ticket in the lift line next season?

No, you will not need to remove your phone from your pocket when accessing the lifts. The My Epic app’s Mobile Pass & Lift Ticket technology will allow guests to activate their pass or lift ticket(s) directly on their phone, put their phone in their pocket, and get scanned, hands free, using specific Bluetooth® technology designed for low energy usage.

Does the My Epic app need to be open on my phone in order for my pass/lift ticket(s) to work?

Each guest will need to log in to the app and complete the prompted setup instructions, before their first Mobile Pass or Lift Ticket(s) can scan at a lift. Afterward, the app can be minimized and will function in the background on your phone.

Keep in mind, if you completely close out the app (i.e. fully shut down the app), you’ll need to re-open the app and ensure you see the green check mark for Mobile Pass & Lift Ticket to scan at a lift.

Can my phone scan the passes/lift tickets for my entire family (e.g., children)?

No, each individual will need to have their own pass or lift ticket, using either Mobile Pass, Mobile Lift Ticket, or a physical pass or lift ticket card to access the mountain. Children 13 and younger are eligible to use Mobile Pass & Lift Tickets with parent/guardian permission. To set up an account for a child, parents/guardians should open their personal My Epic app, click into their Account (icon on top right of screen), select “Setup Child Account,” then follow the prompts. Alternatively, children can use a physical pass or lift ticket card to access the mountain.

All passes and lift tickets associated with your email account that you purchased for other guests will be able to be sent via text or email to other guests for their use once they download the My Epic app and set up accounts.

If I (or someone I’m skiing with, e.g., friends or children) don’t use a smartphone, what are other options for lift access for them?

For any guest who does not use a smartphone or chooses to not utilize Mobile Pass & Lift Tickets, guests will still be able to use their physical pass & lift ticket cards to access the mountain.

Should I carry my physical pass or lift ticket card with me in addition to my Mobile Pass or Lift Ticket on the My Epic App?

It is recommended that you carry either your physical pass/lift ticket card OR your Mobile Pass/Lift Ticket (one or the other). If you carry both, whichever is scanned first each day will be the active lift access type for the day.

What if I can’t access the My Epic app, what do I do?

If your My Epic App loses functionality, each resort can print you a physical pass or lift ticket card at the base area ticket office to allow you to gain lift access for the day.

What if I don't want to use Mobile Pass / Can I still use a physical pass? Physical passes still work at our resorts. You may still get a physical Pass either when you purchase for next season upon checkout/completing your purchase, or in-resort at any of our guest service/ticket office locations.

What should I do if my phone runs out of battery?

Keep in mind that the Bluetooth® technology used in the My Epic app is designed for low energy usage. That being said, we have added free charging stations in many resorts in convenient locations, and guests are always welcome to visit our ticket windows to get a physical card printed.

Where can I go in-resort for My Epic app support?

Our ticket agents and scanning staff will be able to help enable your Mobile Pass or Lift Ticket. You can also look for a Mobile Pass & Lift Ticket flag in the base area for My Epic app support.

Will there be phone charging stations on resort if my phone dies while using Mobile Pass & Lift Tickets?

You can find phone charging stations at select resorts’ base areas or in high traffic dining areas. Locate these charging stations by visiting a resort map and looking for the charging station icon. Many retail locations will also be selling cords and chargers for your convenience.

Can I use Mobile Pass & Lift Tickets when I purchase a Ski and Ride School lesson?

Ski and Ride School lessons will not be available on the My Epic app this year. All lessons require a valid lift ticket or season pass to participate. Please arrive at your lesson’s meeting location 30 minutes before the start time to allow time for check-in and meeting your instructor. Lift Ticket Availability

When will lift tickets be limited during the 2023/24 season?   Vail Resorts is limiting lift ticket sales throughout the 2023/24 season to prioritize the mountain experience for our guests. Guests are strongly encouraged to secure their lift access in advance.

Which resorts will have limited lift tickets during the 2023/24 season?  Vail Resorts will limit lift tickets at all of our North American resorts: Vail, Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, Keystone and Crested Butte in Colorado; Park City Mountain in Utah; Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood in Tahoe; Stevens Pass in Washington; Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia; Stowe, Okemo and Mount Snow in Vermont; Hunter Mountain in New York; Mount Sunapee, Attitash, Wildcat and Crotched in New Hampshire; Seven Springs, Liberty, Whitetail, Roundtop, Hidden Valley, Laurel Mountain, Jack Frost and Big Boulder in Pennsylvania; Alpine Valley, Boston Mills, Brandywine and Mad River in Ohio; Hidden Valley and Snow Creek in Missouri; Wilmot in Wisconsin; Afton Alps in Minnesota; Mt. Brighton in Michigan; and Paoli Peaks in Indiana.    Why are lift tickets limited this season?   To prioritize the guest experience, Vail Resorts will be limiting lift ticket sales across our 37 North American resorts. While we do not anticipate every day at every resort will sell out, we encourage guests who are planning to visit this season to secure their lift access in advance.   How can I find out if lift tickets will be available for the day I am planning to visit?  Lift ticket availability is visible on resort websites’ winter lift ticket pages. If lift tickets are sold out on a specific day at a specific resort, that day will show as unavailable. If lift tickets are sold out on your desired day, secure your lift access with an Epic Day Pass and save up to 65% off lift tickets depending on the level of resort access you chose to purchase. Epic Day Pass can be purchased at EpicPass.com until passes go off sale for the season.   If lift tickets are sold out online for a specific day at a specific resort, can I purchase one at the ticket window?  No, if a specific day at a specific resort sells out online, lift tickets will not be sold at resort ticket windows unless purchased with a Pass Holder benefit ticket (Buddy tickets or Ski With A Friend tickets) or through ski and ride school. Availability will be updated online if there are any lift ticket cancellations.    If I am booking a lodging reservation during this time, am I guaranteed lift access?  No, lodging reservations do not provide any guarantee of lift access. Guests are encouraged to purchase lift access as soon as possible, either through a pass (including an Epic Day Pass) for the best value – or by purchasing a lift ticket in advance. You should not wait until you are at the resort. If you already have a pass, there are no restrictions outside of any restricted peak dates associated with your pass.    Will there be restrictions on Pass Holder benefit tickets during these weeks?  No, Pass Holders’ benefit tickets, such as Buddy Tickets and Ski with a Friend Tickets, will not be impacted by lift ticket availability.    How do I redeem Buddy Tickets and Ski with a Friend Tickets if lift tickets are sold out online?  Buddy Tickets and Ski With A Friend Tickets will be available for purchase online and in-person at the window this season. Book a lesson in advance and add a discounted lift ticket at checkout!    What product should I purchase to secure lift access this season?   It is strongly recommended that you purchase your lift access in advance online for the 2023/2024 Season. If lift tickets are sold out online, guests will not be able to buy them at ticket windows unless purchased with a Pass Holder benefit ticket or through ski and ride school. Another option is Epic Day Pass, while it is still on sale, which provides the best value for guests planning to visit 1 to 7 days this season. Epic Day Pass offers savings of up to 65% off lift ticket window prices and is customizable with three levels of resort access and a choice to include peak days access or not. The price per day decreases as more days are purchased. Epic Day Passes are non-refundable, except as provided in Epic Coverage. With an Epic Day Pass, you can lock in the number of days you want to visit and decide later when and where to go – without concern of a day selling out.    Are Pass Holders impacted by lift ticket limitations? Will there be added restricted days for Pass Holders?   No, passes will not be restricted beyond any restricted peak dates associated with a specific pass. This is a limit on lift ticket sales to prioritize Pass Holders’ mountain experience.   Are Epic Day Passes impacted by this lift ticket limitation?  No, there will be no restrictions on Epic Day Passes or any other pass product beyond any restricted dates associated with the specific pass you purchase.     As a Pass Holder, will I still be able to use the lift ticket discounts on my pass during restricted peak days or after I have used all days on my Epic Day Pass?   Yes, Pass Holders with restricted peak dates can still use their discounts to purchase lift tickets on peak dates without limitations. Pass Holders who have utilized all of their purchased Epic Day Pass days will also still be eligible to purchase additional discounted days without any limitations.   As a Pass Holder, do I need to make a reservation on days I plan to ski or ride this season?  No, we do not have a Pass Holder reservation system this season. If you have a pass product, you are good to go for the dates associated with your pass! Be sure to check mountain access and restricted peak dates before making your plans to ski or ride.

  • Pay in full – Your credit or debit card is charged the full amount of your order at the time of purchase.
  • Epic FlexPay – Pending approval, lock in your pass for $0 down and no interest, with low monthly payments
  • $49 down – Pay $49 at the time of purchase then the remainder of your purchase in mid-September. This option is only available in the Spring.

What is the advantage of using Epic FlexPay vs. a credit card?

Credit cards charge interest whereas Epic FlexPay has no interest at all. Your total amount owed and monthly payments are clear at the time of the purchase with no hidden fees or late payment penalties. Epic FlexPay makes it easy to budget and pay for your purchase over time.

Is there a minimum or maximum spend level required to use Epic FlexPay?

Epic FlexPay is available for eligible pass purchases with a minimum of $49 USD/CAD up to a maximum of $25,000 USD/CAD

Are there any fees for using Epic FlexPay?

No, there are no fees or interest when you use Epic FlexPay. You pay exactly what you would have if you paid in full, just with low monthly payments!

Are all products eligible for Epic FlexPay?

Only select 2024/25 Season Passes are available for Epic FlexPay. Ski and Ride School lessons, hospitality, rentals, retail, and other lines of business are not eligible at this time.

Your website indicates multiple loan term lengths available, but when I go to pay, I don't see every option. Why is that?

Uplift looks at a number of factors when determining loan term length, including credit information, purchase details, and more. If eligible, you will see a maximum of three term lengths to choose from, all with low monthly payments.

Does my Pass and/or EDGE Card include Epic Coverage?

Epic Coverage is included at no charge with all Passes and EDGE Cards , including those sold on EpicPass.com, our resort websites, and through our third-party partners, with the exception of:

Epic Coverage does not provide a refund for quarantines or travel advisories that apply to your home. Epic Coverage provides refunds if you are unable to use your pass during the Core Season (Decemver 7 through April 17) because the municipality, county, state, province, or country in which your permanent residence is located is subject to a mandatory governmental “stay-at-home” or “shelter-in-place” order lasting thirty (30) or more consecutive days, at least seven (7) days of which are during the Core Season. Please see Epic Coverage Terms and Condition s for more information.

Does Epic Coverage provide reimbursement for personal medical expenses?

No, Epic Coverage does not reimburse guests for personal medical expenses.

Can I purchase Pass insurance?

Epic Coverage is included at no charge with all eligible Passes and provides protection across a range of Qualifying Personal Events and Qualifying Resort Closures.

Vail Resorts does not offer any other Pass insurance for purchase.

Please see Epic Coverage Terms and Conditions for full details.

How is my Epic Coverage refund determined?

Epic Coverage provides refunds for certain resort closures that occur during the Core Season (December 7 through April 17 ) due to disease, war, terrorism, and covered natural disasters. If a Qualifying Resort Closure occurs, refund eligibility and amount will vary based on the type of Pass your purchase, your Epic Coverage elections, and the number of days you use your Pass.

If a Qualifying Personal Event prevents you from being able to use your pass, you may be eligible for a refund. Your refund eligibility and amount will vary based on the type of Pass you purchase, your Epic Coverage elections, and the number of days you use your Pass.

The use of your Pass at Partner Resorts or outside of the Core Season, including early season use of EDGE Cards (or other products with similar offerings), will count towards the number of days you have used your Pass for purposes of determining the amount of any refund for which you may be eligible.

Please see the  Epic Coverage Terms & Conditions  for terms and limitations on refund coverage, as well as details on refund eligibility and amounts.

How do I follow up on the status of a pending refund request?

Please call  1-877-895-1297  and reference your existing refund request number to follow up on a pending refund request.

I  purchased multiple Passes and received an Epic Coverage refund under one of the Passes. What happens next?

The Pass for which you received the refund will cease to be valid and you will no longer be able to use the Pass to access any resorts or receive any other ancillary Pass benefits for the remainder of the ski and ride season. The other Passes will remain active.

Please note, guests who purchased multiple Passes and received a refund under one of the Passes will notice their Epic Coverage elections for all other Passes reverted to the default "Core Season" and "All Resorts" elections, even if the guest made specific Epic Coverage elections. You are able to update or change your elections for all valid Passes until the Epic Coverage election deadline.

Please see  Epic Coverage Terms and Conditions  for full details.

10 Top Road Trip Routes in the Northeastern US

north east travel pass

The United States abounds with scenic routes and picturesque drives , but the beauty of the Northeast offers landscapes you can't see anywhere else in the country. Chasing rivers and scaling mountains, they wind through the country's most adorable small towns and along its most storied coastline. As the East Coast is famous for its fiery autumn colors, many of these trips are especially striking during the fall . However, each season offers something uniquely enjoyable and you can enjoy these drives at any time of the year.

Read on to find inspiration for your next Northeast road trip.

Upper Delaware River Valley

If you've seen those car commercials that show a slick vehicle navigating a wildly undulating mountain road, there's a good chance it was State Route 97 in the Upper Delaware River Valley of Upstate New York. This twisting highway traces the Delaware River, which forms a natural border between New York State and Pennsylvania. The most famous part is a section known as the Hawk's Nest, which covers the 70 miles from Point Jervis to Hancock. It takes about an hour and a half to complete the route, so even though it isn't the fastest way to travel between the cities, it's undoubtedly the prettiest.

Apart from the stomach-churning turns and breathtaking views, travelers should also stop at landmarks along the route including the Minisink Battleground Park , which hosted a skirmish during the Revolutionary War, and Roebling's Delaware Aqueduct , a canal bridge and engineering marvel built in 1848.

Letchworth State Park

Letchworth State Park in Upstate New York has been nicknamed the "Grand Canyon of the East" for its dramatic gorge that drops 600 feet into the Genesee River below. The best place to get into the park is at the southern entrance in the town of Portageville, which is just over an hour from either Rochester or Buffalo . You can drive the length of the entire park and come out at the north end, which isn't even 20 miles long. But factor in plenty of time for pulling over, taking pictures, and hiking around the gorge. You'll see plenty of waterfalls during your trip through Letchworth, but if they leave you wanting more, Niagara Falls is just an hour and a half away by car.

The Adirondacks

TripSavvy / Lauren Breedlove

In the remote northeastern part of New York's Adirondack Park , there are 46 rounded peaks that soar roughly 4,000 feet or more toward the sky, but you don't need to hike them for glorious views. This scenic drive starts in North Creek, New York—about an hour and a half north of Albany. From North Creek, drive on Route 28N as it loops around through the forest and mountains. Once you reach Blue Mountain Lake, Route 28N turns into Route 28S, but continue weaving through the many charming lakes until you reach Old Forge. The entire route is nearly 90 miles and has plenty of opportunities for stopping the car and enjoying nature.

Along the way, allow time for a scenic Gondola Skyride at Gore Mountain. And don't miss the splendid Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake , a sprawling complex that brings to life the people who've explored, settled, and cherished this wilderness. It's one of the top things to do in New York State .

The Vermont Shore

Yes, Vermont has a coast: a freshwater one along Lake Champlain. And the town of Shelburne—just a few miles south of Burlington —is a picturesque spot to start a drive that affords fabulous views of the lake and its majestic backdrop, the Adirondack Mountains across the border in New York.

Start at Shelburne Farms , a 1,400-acre working farm built on Lake Champlain as a model agricultural estate in the late 19th century. Pick up Route 7 South to Mount Philo State Park  in Charlotte, where you can drive to the summit for panoramic lake views. Continue on Route 7 South to Route 22A through Vergennes and out to Button Bay State Park . Once there, you can hike along a bluff overlooking Lake Champlain or even rent a boat and get out on the water. Not including time out of the car, the drive should take just about an hour.

The Mohawk Trail

Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism

A path blazed by five Native American tribes became New England's first official scenic route in 1914. Automobiles have come a long way since then, but the 63-mile Mohawk Trail—Route 2 between Williamstown and Athol in Western Massachusetts —still leads to bucolic scenes that seem little altered over the past century. Famous for its sharp Hairpin Turn, which looks out over the Hoosac Valley, it's a drive you'll particularly want to savor in the fall . Allow time to hike a portion of the Mahican-Mohawk Trail that runs through the Mohawk Trail State Forest in Charlemont. It follows the original footpath trod by New England's earliest inhabitants.

The Kancamagus Highway

New England's ultimate scenic route—especially in the fall—is the 34.5 miles of Route 112 between Conway and Lincoln, New Hampshire. Known by its Native American name, the Kancamagus Highway (pronounced kank-ah-MAU-gus but called "the Kanc" by locals) was completed in 1959, connecting these towns on the east and west sides of the 800,000-acre White Mountain National Forest . There are overlooks, hiking opportunities, historic sites, and campgrounds along this famed roadway, but even if you just motor through (be prepared to ride your brakes when fall traffic peaks), you'll be thrilled by the views of densely forested mountains and the boulder-strewn Swift River.

Connecticut's National Scenic Byway

Think of this as your "serenity now" route. Connecticut's first National Scenic Byway—Route 169 from North Woodstock to Lisbon—is a supreme leaf-peeping route that glides for 30 miles past farmlands, stone walls, and nearly 200 homes built before the Civil War. Worthy stops on your trip include Historic New England's Roseland Cottage in Woodstock, Mashamoquet Brook State Park in Pomfret for lore and hiking, and Martha's Herbary in Pomfret for aromatic gifts. Time your drive to coincide with the Brooklyn Fair , the oldest continuously-held agricultural fair in the U.S., which takes place in late August each year.

Narragansett Bay

Kim Knox Beckius

Set your GPS for 1460 Ocean Road, Narragansett, Rhode Island, and begin this road trip at one of New England's prettiest lighthouses: Point Judith Lighthouse . Although you can't venture inside, you can stroll the grounds of this still-active beacon built in 1857. From here, you'll follow Ocean Road north to Narragansett Town Beach , where surfers ride vigorous waves year-round. The Towers —all that remains of the Gilded Age Narragansett Pier Casino—provide an enchanting backdrop. Drive Route 1A North, and you'll pass Historic New England's Casey Farm , established in 1750 and still operating and open for tours.

From there, take Route 138 East across the Jamestown Bridge, exit onto Conanicut Island, and follow local roads south to Beavertail State Park on Beavertail Road. Here, you'll see the 1856 stone Beavertail Lighthouse and you can venture inside the museum in the assistant keeper's house. Look east, and you'll bring your lighthouse count up to three: Castle Hill Light is visible in the distance.

Massachusetts' Coastline

If you're a fan of fried clams, lobster, and fresh fish, this is the road trip for you. It starts in Gloucester, Massachusetts —the oldest seaport in the U.S.—and follows Route 127A to Route 127 along the coast north of Boston . It then turns inland toward Essex on Route 133 and north once again on Route 1 to Newburyport . Along the way, you'll see Gloucester's Good Harbor Beach, one of the prettiest in New England, and the petite fishing village of Rockport, where the art scene thrives.

You'll be distracted at practically every turn by seafood shacks, but you may want to save your appetite for Essex, where fried clams were invented by Chubby Woodman. His descendants still prepare them the same way at Woodman's of Essex , and some say the golden beauties at The Clam Box up the road in Ipswich are even better, so you'll want to try both. If you're still hungry when you reach Newburyport, finish with a scenic drive along Plum Island, stopping at the no-frills but delicious Bob Lobster on the way. The entire drive is about 45 miles.

Acadia's Park Loop Road

www.cfwphotography.com/Getty Images

The 27-mile Park Loop Road through Maine's Acadia National Park is as exhilarating a drive as you'll find anywhere. Even though it's not a long route, expect to spend at least three to four hours driving, including stops to get out and enjoy the scenery (it can be even longer during the busy summer months due to traffic). The Atlantic waves crashing against the forests make for a truly dramatic landscape, made all the better by the towering Cadillac Mountain—and you can drive to the summit. This national park does charge an entrance fee, but your admission is good for seven days of visits, so make the most of your visit by staying nearby or even camping in the park.

The Ultimate 10 Day Northeast USA Itinerary (+ 1 and 2 week options)

Thinking of visiting the Northeastern Region of the USA? Look no further than this 10 day Northeastern USA travel itinerary.

The Northeast region of the United States is a beautiful and historically rich area that offers a ton of unique travel experiences. Whether you’re interested in exploring bustling cities, enjoying the great outdoors, or soaking up some American history, there’s something for everyone in the Northeast.

With so many incredible destinations to choose from, planning the perfect itinerary can be overwhelming. But don’t stress, in this guide, I’ll walk you through the process of planning your Northeast USA travel itinerary. We’ll cover all the must-see destinations, the best times to visit, and plenty of tips to help you make the most of your trip.

From the stunning fall foliage in New England to the towering skyscrapers of New York City, the Northeast has it all. Whether you’re a history buff, a foodie, or an outdoors enthusiast, the Northeast is sure to exceed your expectations. So block out your calendar and get ready to explore the very best that the Northeastern USA has to offer!

First a note: these itineraries all start in New York because for international travellers that’s typically the cheapest place to fly in and out of with the most airports and flight options. However, if you’re already in the USA or not concerned about flight costs, it would make sense to start at Boston (the northernmost point on the itinerary) and work your way south or vice versa.

How to get around the Northeastern USA

This itinerary is designed so that you can do it either as a 10 day Northeast USA road trip or travel by bus or train if you prefer not to drive. I’ve personally done it both ways and can tell you the trains are the easiest and most affordable way to get around in the Northeast.

All of the destinations on these itineraries (including the 1 and 2 week options) are along Amtrak’s Northeast Regional train route so you don’t even need to worry about train connections. Most trains stations in the Northeast are right in the center of each city, so you can walk straight off the train and start exploring.

The 10 Day Northeast USA road/train trip itinerary

Days 1-3: new york.

There’s no better place to start a USA road trip than the Big Apple, the concrete jungle where dreams are made of…. While you can (and I have) easily spend a week or more in NYC, 3 days is a good amount of time to see the highlights and get a taste.

It can be overwhelming to know where to start so to make it easy I recommend dedicating one day to each of Midtown and Downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Day 1 – Midtown Manhattan: Start your day in Times Square, the bustling heart of Midtown Manhattan. There’s no better place to take in the bright lights and energy of the city. Here, you can shop at the many stores and boutiques (don’t miss the 3 storey M&Ms store) and grab breakfast or coffee at one of the many cafes.

From there, head to the  Empire State Building , where you can take in breathtaking views of the city from the observation deck. Next, visit the iconic Grand Central Terminal, one of the busiest train stations in the world and a beautiful example of Beaux-Arts architecture.

End your day with a visit to Central Park, the iconic park that spans 843 acres in the heart of Manhattan. Here, you can have a picnic, go for a jog, rent a boat, or simply relax and people watch. It’s not advised to do a carriage ride as some horses may be mistreated.

Day 2 – Downtown Manhattan: Start your day in Battery Park, where you can catch a ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. You have the option of either the free Staten Island Ferry that goes past Liberty Island or the  paid Statue Cruises that lets you get off on Liberty Island, I’ve done both and the paid version is worth the money.

Afterward, take a stroll through the historic Financial District, where you can see the New York Stock Exchange, the Charging Bull statue, and the extremely moving 9/11 Memorial.

If you’re keen for more views you can head up the One World Trade Center Observatory, the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.

End your day with a stroll through the trendy neighborhoods of SoHo and Greenwich Village, where you can shop, dine, and people-watch to your heart’s content.

Day 3 – Brooklyn and Uptown: On the last day in NYC, make your way across the Brooklyn Bridge, walk around the waterfront with its panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline, get your photos in DUMBO and eat your way through Time Out Market.

If you have extra time, explore the Brooklyn Botanic Garden or visit the Brooklyn Museum, which houses an impressive collection of art and artifacts from around the world.

Then spend the afternoon taking in thousands of years of art at The Met and seeing how the other half live on the Upper East Side.

From there, take a subway ride up to Harlem, where you can explore the neighborhood’s rich cultural heritage, visit the famous Apollo Theater, and grab dinner at one of the many soul food restaurants.

To help save money on attractions, try a  Go City pass . They have 2 and 3 day all-inclusive passes that would be perfect for this itinerary –  click here to see how you can save .

Finally, don’t forget to make time for plenty of pizza slices, bagels, pretzels and hot dogs!

Day 4-5: Boston

Drive: 220 miles – approx. 3.5 hours

Train: Amtrak Northeast Regional from Moynihan Train Hall – approx. 4 hours

After the craziness of New York, head up north to the relative calm of Boston, Massachusetts. Boston is a city steeped in history and culture but despite its historic nature the crazy number of universities in Boston means the city has a very young, fun vibe. With world-class museums, delicious food, and beautiful parks, there’s something for everyone in this vibrant city.

Start your trip with a walk along the Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile route that takes you through some of Boston’s most important historic sites, including the Massachusetts State House, Paul Revere’s House, and the USS Constitution Museum. Along the way, you’ll learn about the events leading up to the American Revolution and the role Boston played in shaping the country’s history.

There are plenty of  walking tours available  but I’d recommend just downloading an audio guide for the Freedom Trail and going at your own pace. And don’t miss the Boston Public Library, it might not be on the Freedom Trail but it was my favourite spot.

Next, head over to the Museum of Fine Arts, where you can explore over 450,000 works of art from around the world. The museum’s collections range from ancient artifacts to contemporary art, and there’s something for every taste and interest.

If you’re a sports fan, make sure to catch a game at Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. And if baseball isn’t your thing, try an ice hockey game, I can promise it will make for a memorable experience.

For foodies, Boston is a paradise with both fresh New England seafood and quality Italian cuisine on offer. Make sure to try the city’s signature clam chowder and lobster rolls as well as Boston cream pie (go to Omni Parker House for the original version), and cannoli from Mike’s Pastry or Modern Pastry in the North End.

Finally, take a stroll through the beautiful Boston Common, the oldest public park in the country. With over 50 acres of green space, the park is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the city’s natural beauty.

On your second day in Boston, head out to Cambridge to see the Harvard campus (students run  walking tours ) and try some of the fun student bars.

If you have extra time, you can take the train out to Salem to explore the witchy museums and filming locations. It’s only a short ride from North Station or you can take a  day tour from Boston .

Day 6: Providence/Newport

Drive: 50 miles – approx. 1 hour

Train: Amtrak Northeast Regional from Back Bay or South Boston and local bus to Newport – approx. 2 hours total

Rhode Island, the smallest state in the USA, might not be on every Northeast itinerary but it’s very much worth a visit.

Providence itself is quite a small town with a very compact city centre. There are a couple of decent things to do in Providence itself, including visiting the Rhode Island State Capitol – unlike the one in DC, here you’re allowed to just wander around at will and see all the rooms – and the Brown University campus.

However, the number one reason for coming to Providence is because it’s the gateway to Newport, which you’ll want to dedicate most of the day to seeing.

Newport is a beautiful seaside town full of cute boutiques and restaurants, but its biggest draw is the Gilded Age mansions.  These homes are straight out of The Great Gatsby, offering a glimpse into the opulent lifestyles of America’s wealthiest families during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

These grand estates are designed to feel very like European palaces with grand ballrooms, ornate gardens, and stunning ocean views. You can tour these mansions and learn about the families who lived there, including the Vanderbilts, Astors, and Morgans. I recommend picking 2-3 and using the audio tours which are included with your tickets and are super informative.

While you’re in Newport check out the Cliff Walk, a stunning (but windy) hike along the ocean. Warm up afterwards with a hot chocolate or some of the famous New England clam chowder.

The Breakers Mansion Newport

Days 7-8: Philadelphia

Drive: 300 miles – approx. 4.5 hours

Train: Amtrak Northeast Regional from Providence – approx. 5.5 hours

When in Philadelphia, the must-visit attraction is Independence Hall, where both the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution were signed. To visit, you’ll need to book tickets through the National Parks website several weeks (ideally months) in advance of your trip as numbers are strictly limited and security is tight.

Even if you miss out on tickets to Independence Hall you can still line up to go see the Liberty Bell across the street and wander through the remains of George Washington’s house.

Next head across town to another of Philadelphia awesome free attractions, the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This beautiful neoclassical building boasts works from van Gogh and Monet, among many many others.

Finish the day with a visit to the Eastern State Penitentiary, one of the most famous and haunted prisons in the world. The prison’s notable inmates, include Al Capone and the bank robber “Slick Willie”. If you’re brave enough, sign up for the night tour to discover the spookiest stories from the prison’s history.

Start your second day in Philadelphia with a visit to the Museum of the American Revolution , where you can learn about the events leading up to the American Revolution and the impact it had on the country and the world. The museum features interactive exhibits, including a replica of a colonial-era privateer ship and Goerge Washington’s tent. We enjoyed the short talks from the educators explaining the artefacts in each room.

If you’re a really dedicated fan of America history you can also head over to the Betsy Ross House, where the first American flag was allegedly sewn and take a guided tour of the house to learn about the life of Betsy Ross and the history of the flag.

For lunch head to the Reading Terminal Market, one of the oldest and largest public markets in the country. This is a food’es paradise and the place to go to try local dishes including Philly cheesesteaks, Pennsylvania Dutch pretzels, and Amish donuts.

If you haven’t succumbed to a food coma then spend the rest of the day strolling through the historic district and waterfront, where you can see many other historic sites, including Franklin Court, site of Benjamin Franklin’s home.

Days 9-10: Washington DC

Drive: 150 miles – approx. 2.5 hours

Train: Amtrak Northeast Regional from Philadelphia 30 th  Street – approx. 2 hours

There’s no better place to wrap up your vacation in the Northeast United States than in the nation’s capital: Washington, D.C.

One of the best things about visiting D.C. is how much you can do for free. The city is home to countless museums, galleries, monuments, and historic buildings that are open to the public.

However, one important piece of advice: it’s essential to plan ahead and book your visits. Many places will book out months in advance, and even those that allow some walk-ins will often require you to spend a long time queuing outside which is no fun in the heat/wind/rain.

If you’re hoping to tour the White House, don’t expect it to be easy. The booking process requires US residents to apply through their local congressman process. The White House website suggests that foreigners can apply through their embassy, but we found that our embassies weren’t even taking bookings.

The Capitol, on the other hand, is much easier to get into, you do need to book but they can get large numbers of visitors through in a day so it’s not hard to get tickets. The Capitol is a must-do. You can’t see in the actual Senate or House chambers but the beautiful rotunda and National Statuary Hall are well worth it in themselves, we loved seeing the statues each state had chosen to donate.

Continuing on the must-see attractions in D.C., walking along the National Mall is a must. This beautiful parkland features the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and a variety of other monuments and memorials.

If you’re an art lover, don’t miss the National Gallery. This beautiful museum houses tons of amazing artworks including one by Leonardo Da Vinci. Whatever your interests, D.C. is sure to delight and inspire you with its wealth of cultural and historic offerings.

Frequently Asked Questions About Visiting Northeastern USA

True to the name, the Northeast covers the area from the Canadian border in the North down to (depending on who you ask) Washington DC on the Virginia border and inland as far as the Ohio border including 11 states.

To avoid the summer crowds and the freezing Northeastern winters, the best time to visit is in late spring (May-June) and early fall (October-November), these are also good times to catch the cherry blossoms or the fall foliage respectively.

For a first-time visitor, 10 days is enough time to see the highlights of the American Northeast but if you can stay a full 2 weeks you’ll get to see even more.

In Short: 10 Days in the Northeastern USA

It’s hard to narrow down the best parts of the Northeast to a short itinerary as there’s so much to see and do and there’s no wrong way to see this part of the USA. Hopefully, these Northeast USA itineraries give you some inspiration to get started!

Lifted by Ikon Pass | Lifted

So, You’re Looking for Ski Passes for Northeast Ski Resorts

The Northeast is chock full of amazing ski hills, prepped and ready for you to ride all winter long. But what’s the best way to enjoy them all season? With a season pass, of course.

The Ikon Pass gives you access to some of the best ski resorts in the Northeast, with several options to satisfy your adventure level and your budget. Plus, it’s the easiest way to experience some of the most iconic ski destinations around the world. Still not sure if an Ikon Pass is the best ski pass for riding on the East Coast? Let’s dive in.

Is there an East Coast ski pass?

Technically, no. Ikon Pass does not have an East Coast ski pass, specifically. But it does let you ski and ride at seven of the best ski resorts in New England: Stratton , Sugarbush , Killington-Pico , Sunday River , Sugarloaf , Windham Mountain , and Loon Mountain . Keep in mind, though, that each pass product offers a different level of access at each destination.

The Ikon Pass gives you the most days at all destinations, including the Northeast ski resorts. If you pick this season pass, you can ski or ride at Stratton and Sugarbush as many days as you want during the season, with no blackout dates. And you get 7 days each at Killington-Pico, Windham Mountain, Sunday River, Sugarloaf, and Loon Mountain, again, with no blackout dates.

The Ikon Base Pass provides similar access, but with a few limitations. You can still ski or ride as many days as you want at Stratton and Sugarbush, but there are blackout dates during peak holiday times. You get 5 days each at Killington-Pico, Windham Mountain, Sunday River, Sugarloaf, and Loon Mountain, also with blackout dates.

The Ikon Session Pass gives you two-, three-, or four-days total at a select number of Ikon Pass destinations, including all seven Northeast ski resorts. So, you can ski two, three or four days at one destination or spread those days out across multiple destinations during the season. For example, if you purchase the 4-day pass, you can use all four days at Stratton, or you can use one day at Stratton, two days at Killington-Pico, and one day at Sunday River. It’s up to you. Once all those days are used, though, you don’t have any more for the season. In addition, blackout dates apply at all Northeast destinations on the Ikon Session Pass.

If you don’t want to worry about keeping track of which days you can and cannot ski or how many days you have left for the season, the Ikon Pass is the way to go.

Skier going down a steep powdery run with a scenic mountain view in the background.

How much is the Ikon Pass?

The cost of a season pass depends on which product you choose to buy, and which age group you qualify for. There are 6 types of Ikon Pass products you can buy: Ikon Pass, Ikon Base Pass, Ikon Base Plus Pass, Ikon Session Pass 4-Day, Ikon Session Pass 3-Day, and Ikon Session Pass 2-Day. Within each pass product, there are different age levels you can purchase based on how old you are: Adult (ages 23+), Young Adult (ages 13-22), Child (ages 5-12); and 4 & Under (ages 0-4).

Not sure which age level to get? It’s based on how old you are at the time you buy. For example, if you’re 22 when you purchase a pass, but will turn 23 during the winter season, you would purchase the Young Adult pass (ages 13-22) since you currently fall into that age category. If you have a child that is four but will be turning five later in the year or during the ski season, you will buy the 4 & Under pass since your kid still falls in that age level at time of purchase.

Is it worth the cost to buy a ski season pass?

How much do you plan to ski or snowboard? If the answer is “a lot” then a season pass is certainly a value buy.

But if you’re new to either sport or only plan to visit the mountains a couple times, the Ikon Session Pass is a great introductory product to get you out on the snow. The pass has fewer days at fewer destinations, but it’s a budget-friendly option and a good fit for the casual skier or rider. Plus, if you ski or snowboard even 2 days, the pass more than pays for itself.

Hardcore winter sports enthusiasts who have a long list of mountains they want to hit will find the Ikon Pass to be the most useful. It gets you access to all 50 Ikon Pass destinations, including the seven Northeast resorts. Plus, no blackout dates, so there’s never a concern about showing up on a day when you can’t ski or ride.

Are there other Northeast ski pass options?

Every Northeast ski resort that’s accessible on the Ikon Pass may also offer a local ski pass. This means it only works at that location and is not a multi-mountain ski pass. If Stratton is your home mountain, and you have no plans to go anywhere else, you can choose to purchase one of the Stratton passes, such as the Stratton Summit Pass , Stratton Select Pass , or Strattitude Pass . Sugarbush also has several pass options to fit all levels of skiers and riders.

The Ikon Pass is your Northeast ski pass, letting you ski and ride at top resorts across New England throughout the 22/23 winter season. Lock in your pass now at the lowest prices of the season . Visit Ikonpass.com for all the details and choose which pass it right for you.

WEATHER ALERT

A flood warning in effect for McMullen County

State department announces san antonio as future home of new passport agency, six cities across nation selected by department as home to new passport agency.

Mason Hickok , Digital Journalist

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio is one of six cities selected as the future home of a passport agency, the U.S. State Department said on Tuesday.

The selection comes as the department encourages Americans to obtain their passports. For San Antonio, it will now save those needing passport or visa services from having to drive to Houston or Dallas.

The forthcoming agencies announced are:

  • Salt Lake City, Utah
  • Kansas City, Missouri
  • Orlando, Florida
  • Charlotte, North Carolina
  • San Antonio, Texas
  • Cincinnati, Ohio

According to the State Department, the six facilities will expand the agency’s footprint to 35.

The announcement comes as part of the National Defense Authorization Act, which asked the department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs to provide “improved in-person and emergency passport services to residents living in a significant population center more than a five-hour drive from a currently established passport agency,” a news release from U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro said.

A State Department press release said that while 5% of Americans had a passport in 1990, that number has now risen to 48%.

Castro called the announcement “incredible news for South Texas travelers” in a post on X , the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Sen. John Cornyn praised the announcement in a statement, saying in part, “With only three other U.S. passport agencies in Texas, this much-needed facility in ‘Military City USA’ will make it easier and more convenient for Texans to obtain and renew a passport.”

Our weeknight politics show  Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge  will be live on Sky News at 7pm, as we gear up for the final leaders' debate of the general election campaign.

The fast-paced programme dissects the inner workings of Westminster, with interviews, insights, and analysis - bringing you, the audience, into the corridors of power.

Sophy and Ali Fortescue will be joined tonight by Home Secretary James Cleverly , live from the spin room in Nottingham.

Also on the show is Labour frontbencher Bridget Phillipson , the shadow education secretary.

By Tim Baker , political reporter, in Nottingham

With eight days to go until polling day, Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer are preparing for the final head-to-head event of the campaign.

They'll be taking the stage at Nottingham Trent University in a BBC debate chaired today's sheriff, Mishal Hussain.

According to the weather apps, it's around 27 degrees here in the East Midlands.

But here in the spin room, lights, gossiping journalists and the pressure of a general election are all raising the temperature.

It will surely be the same for both party leaders.

Labour still lead by 20 points, and the Conservatives still seem on course for electoral wipe-out.

As the last contest between the two men vying to be prime minister, could we see something different from the other events which have been fairly matched?

We'll keep you up to date as it happens...

Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer are preparing to debate head-to-head for the second and final time of this general election campaign.

The BBC's Mishal Husain - who also chaired a seven-way leaders' debate earlier this month - will referee the contest that will last 75 minutes, starting at 8.15pm this evening.

It will be in front of a live audience , that has been chosen by pollster Savanta, rather than the BBC.

It will include Conservative and Labour supporters, in addition to undecided voters.

Which side of the stage the two men will stand on will be decided by a coin toss - as will the order in which they deliver their closing speeches to the nation.

It is likely to be one of the biggest live audiences of the campaign, allowing the two men to potentially reach millions of voters.

The debate will run straight through the full 75 minutes, without any breaks .

In an article for the BBC, Husain said she will be "nudging the two men back to what was in the question, clarifying points, and yes, probably having to call a halt from time to time".

She said she wants "spontaneity and energy" from tonight's contest: "A proper debate, really, rather than speech-making."

We will have live coverage of the debate here in the Politics Hub, and when the debate ends at 9.30pm, we will have live analysis and reaction here and across Sky News - do join us.

Continuing his conversation with our political editor Beth Rigby , Home Secretary James Cleverly was asked if he would consider running for the Tory leadership.

He had previously said that leader of the opposition is not a job any politician should aspire to - does he still agree?

Mr Cleverly said: "Leader of the opposition, by definition, means you're planning for a defeat. And that's not what I do.

"That's not what any Conservative candidate should do at this general election.

"We should work for a victory. We should work to take our message to the voters. We should work for every vote."

Pressed again on whether he would consider running for the leadership should the Conservatives lose the election, and Rishi Sunak stand aside, Mr Cleverly dodged the question.

He said: "My focus is on making sure that I'm returned as the Conservative MP for Braintree.

"Our focus should be winning the election. And that and that is where my focus is."

Home Secretary James Cleverly today said he is angry that the general election campaign has been overshadowed by the election betting scandal.

Speaking to our political editor Beth Rigby , Mr Cleverly said "of course" he was angry about the scandal - because "we only do interviews" focused on the situation.

He said that, instead, he wants to "talk about the choice at this general election between a high taxing Labour Party and a lower taxing Conservative Party".

Mr Cleverly added: "The prime minister has made it clear right from the start that he was furious about this. We said we would let the Gambling Commission do its investigation.

"We wouldn't comment on that. We've looked at it internally.

"We've made the decision that we have removed support for the Conservative candidates involved. And the prime minister is clear.

"I am clear that when you enter public service, it's about serving the public. That's why he was so angry about it."

The home secretary added that "the standards that we set our candidates are clear and unambiguous, and they have fallen short of that.".

"That's why we've taken action."

The Conservative Party has withdrawn support for two candidates over allegations they were involved in placing bets on the date of the general election - with inside knowledge.

Pledges and promises are coming thick and fast from every party as the general election approaches.

Struggling to keep up with who is saying what?

Here is a summary of where the main parties stand on major issues.

It's 5pm - time for our teatime update on the general election campaign.

Here's what you need to know so far - and what's to come later:

  • The gambling scandal isn't going anywhere, with the BBC reporting more than a dozen Tory candidates and officials are facing scrutiny from the watchdog ;
  • Conservative minister Mel Stride told Sky News it had become a "disappointing" distraction from the campaign, while Labour's Liz Kendall said the party suspending one of its own candidates for betting showed how seriously they were taking it;
  • The Liberal Democrats have called for a review into the rules around betting, though leader Sir Ed Davey admitted he put money on the 2010 election ;
  • In a separate political scandal, Sky News understands that a man arrested in north London in connection with the Westminster honeytrap scandal was a Labour Party member;
  • The Met Police said a man had been arrested on suspicion of harassment and offences under the Online Safety Act;
  • Meanwhile, a Greenpeace protester climbed on top of the Conservative battle bus while it was parked up in Nottinghamshire this afternoon.
  • Elsewhere, Rishi Sunak has attacked David Tennant after the actor said he wished minister Kemi Badenoch would "shut up";
  • The Doctor Who star laid into her position on trans and women's rights while being honoured at the British LGBT Awards;
  • Ms Badenoch had said she would "not be silenced" by the "rich, lefty, white male celebrity", and Mr Sunak has now told him: "You are the problem."

And don't forget - the final head-to-head debate between Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer , hosted by the BBC, is taking place tonight.

We will have live coverage here in the Politics Hub from 8.15pm - join us for updates and analysis.

Home Secretary James Cleverly has denied having placed any kind of political bets - as an election betting scandal engulfs the Conservative Party.

Asked whether this is the case, Mr Cleverly says: "No."

And pressed on whether there should be any rule changes in the wake of this situation, the home secretary refuses to say.

He explains: "There's an investigation by the Gambling Commission into people, of a number of political parties and of no political party. My own party.

"We have taken action on the individuals who were candidates. We have withdrawn support for those candidates.

"But we will let the Gambling Commission complete its investigation, as we said, we would. I'm not going to comment further on the investigation.

"We'll see what the outcome of this is. But my position has been clear. The prime minister has been clear on this.

"People in public service should focus on serving the public. "

But are the rules around election betting the problem?

"We don't know yet whether any existing rules have been broken or whether any new rules need to be put in place," he says.

By Jon Craig , chief political correspondent

Rishi Sunak's closest Commons aide, Craig Williams, has been interviewed by Gambling Commission officials over his bet on the timing of the general election, Sky News understands.

He has been cautioned and interviewed by two ex-police officers and a former HMRC official who are now investigators at the commission, according to a Gambling Commission insider.

It is understood the commission is now conducting a "live criminal investigation" and Mr Williams could face prosecution, a caution, or no further action, depending on the evidence.

The interview is said to have begun this morning and then resumed this afternoon after a lunchtime break.

You can read more from Jon Craig in the link below:

Farming minister Sir Mark Spencer has denied Greenpeace activists' claims that the Tories scored the worst of all parties on the environment.

Asked about the protester climbing the Conservative battle bus, he said it was ironic that "I'm here in my electric rechargeable vehicle and they turned up in their diesel van to protest about the environment".

Sir Mark said: "I think they made their point. I mean, I'm sympathetic to some of the points they made.

"You know, I think in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs we're doing a lot to lower our carbon footprint and improve the environment."

He said the criticism of the Tories' record on the environment was not "fair at all".

"We've made huge strides in making sure that we are both energy secure but lowering our carbon footprint as a nation."
