- Along the coast we drive to the Marble Mountains. In one of these five mountains we find several spectacular tunnels, caves and temples. Afterwards it’s time for the Hai Van Pass – camera in hand! – where we will stop at the top for a beautiful view over the coastline of Danang. We continue our way over the pass and stop at Lang Co Beach to enjoy the white sand in combination with beautiful clear blue water. Day 1: Hue to P'rao (185 km - 6 hours riding)

We set off our adventure from Hue on what promises to be a memorable trip of countryside roads, rustic villages, and stunning highlands. Pack your sense of adventure and ride off the beaten path: this journey is the real deal. With the wind in your hair, we zip through the Hue countryside, passing through A Shau valley - an area that played a key role during the American war. We continue our ride and enjoy the winding mountain roads of Ma Oi Pass We take a swim in the cool water or simply lay back and relax in the solitude. We then begin an exciting motorbike journey, ascending up to A Luoi where we stop for lunch at the local restaurant. Our afternoon ride is exciting as we follow a new section of the Ho Chi Minh Trail toward the Laos border, crossing through lush rainforests and over mountain passes on roads perfectly suited to motorbikes. Keep your camera handy as the views are stunning We stop frequently en route so that you can experience the rural life of the locals, learn about their unique cultures, or take in the scenic view of the region. We arrive late afternoon at our stop for the night, P'rao, home to the Co Tu ethnic minority group.

Day 2: P'rao to Hoi An (150 km ~ 5 hours riding)

Rise and shine for our final day of adventure with Easy Riders Vietnam. We continue our beautiful ride to the east along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Our motorbike's journey takes us through isolated villages where the culture and traditions remain untouched by time. It's a staggeringly beautiful region home to one of the most authentic hill tribes to remain in Vietnam. We then zip through the magnificent countryside roads to Marble Mountain where you can admire the scenic view of Da Nang and its surroundings. On a motorbike from Hoi An to Hue – Easy Rider Tour.

The best way to get from Hoi An to Hue is by motorbike. We’ll ride the Ho Chi Minh Trail, rich in war history, through the jungle and the mountains near the border with Laos, and along the iconic Perfume River. On the way we visit the ruins of My Son, a well-preserved temple complex from the time of the Champa kingdom (192 – 1832).

You pay a 10% deposit upon booking your tour. At the start of the tour, you will pay the remaining amount to your Easy Rider.

An experienced Easy Rider will guide you effortlessly through the country, with numerous stops at local families, unspoilt nature, fantastic food stalls and breathtaking temples and historic sites.

Route – Hoi An to Hue Easy Rider Motorbike Tour (2 days)

Sights & Highlights

Hoi an to prao (150 km).

On the way to the Monkey Mountain we visit an American military airport and a tea and coffee plantation, so you can taste freshly roasted local coffee. We drive on to Bahom, the village of the Co Tu population. Here you will learn more about the culture and customs of the Co Tu. After a hike along the Ho Chi Minh Trail we go to another Co Tu village, where we dine and spend the night with a local family.

Prao to Hue (180 KM)

After a traditional local breakfast we explore a number of Co Tu farms and plantations. While driving over the Ho Chi Minh Trail, we cross the jungle and have fantastic views over the mountainous landscape at the border with Laos. After a hike in the jungle you can cool down in one of the many waterfalls. We continue our drive through the Shau valley to Hue. Every now and then you can catch a glimpse of the Perfume River.

The tour ends at your accommodation in Hue.

The program above is a general description of the route. All tours are subject to change based on your Easy Rider’s own insight, depending on factors as weather, traffic and time. If you have specific wishes or ideas you can let us know in advance or discuss them with your guide at the start of the tour.

Pick-up & Drop-off

All tours start between 8 and 9 AM in the morning. After booking with us, one of our Easy Riders will contact you with the exact pick-up time. Your Easy Rider will pick you up at your hostel or hotel in the departure city.

At the end of your tour – before 5 PM – you’ll be dropped off at the accommodation of your choice in the destination city. Make reservations before arrival, because our riders only make one stop for drop-off.

Arriving by bus or train?

We can arrange pick-ups and drop-offs at bus or train stations if you arrive before 9 AM in the morning. Start your tour fresh of the night bus or train – we’ll stop for breakfast along the way! Provide us with the necessary information (departure and arrival station, name of the bus company, estimated time of arrival) by adding it to the booking form.

If you have a flight on the night your tour ends, our guides are happy to drop you off at the airport of the arrival destination. Just make sure you allow enough time for check-in and boarding.

An Easy Rider is a Vietnamese guide on a motorbike . Our Easy Riders are English-speaking, licensed tour guides who know the ins and outs of Vietnamese roads, nature, history and culture. Touring with an Easy Rider means that you comfortably sit on the back of the motorbike behind the guide – wearing protective gear – while you travel from one city to the next, stopping regularly to enjoy sights, local experiences, drinks and meals.

Tours start between 8 and 9 AM, and end between 3 and 5 PM. Your Eay Riders picks you up and drops you off at your accommodation. Multiple day tours include overnight stays.

How to book (availability, payment)

Availability Use the calendar at the top of the tour page to check availability for the preferred date(s).

Booking On the tour page, fill in the number of people you book for – choose between sitting behind the guide and self-driving – and select the date(s). Click ‘book now’ and follow the steps to complete your booking.

Payment You pay a small deposit by online payment; the remaining amount you pay at the start of the tour.

How far in advance should I book? You can book tours departing from Dalat, Hoi An and Hue shortly beforehand. For popular multiple-day tours (like the Ha Giang Loop), we advice you to book ahead. It’s okay if you don’t know your pick-up or drop-off location yet, you can let us know later.

Self-driving & International Driving Permit

On the tour, you can drive yourself if you are:

• a party of at least two people; on every tour at least one person sits behind an Easy Rider.
• in possession of a valid motorcycle license (A1 or A2), and;
• in possession of a valid 1968-version of the International Driving Permit (IDP) , obtained in your home country;

We will make sure to get you a well maintained motorbike (manual or clutch) and protective gear. The rate for sitting on the back or driving your own bike is the same, gasoline is included.

For safety reasons, we don’t allow passengers on the motorbikes for self-driving .

Each person can bring one (1) backpack or suitcase (max. 20 kg / 44 lbs) and one (1) daypack or handbag on the tour. Even pretty big hard scale suitcases can be tied to the back of the motorbike as long as they are not over 20 kg (44 lbs); it’s more about weight distribution than size.

All luggage is put in waterproof bags and tied to the front or back of the motorcycle.

Is it a private tour or do we ride in groups?

On most occassions, it’s just you and your Easy Rider(s) : a private tour.

During peak seasons (July & August, November – February), we sometimes combine multiple bookings to a small group. This group then consists of all the guests who have booked the same route on the same date(s). This is most common on our popular day tours (covering the Hai Van Pass).

Our Ha Giang Loop tours are always private tours. For us, this is an important way to distinguish our tours in this region from the awfully big groups some operators ride with.

Easy Rider Hue to Hoi An via Hai Van Pass Tour

Your Easy Riders Vietnam tour guide(s) will meet and greet you at the hotel where you stay in Hue around 8:00 am and set off for the motorbike adventure. We ride through the back roads in the countryside to reach the fishing village where you could experience what the locals do for a living. We stop to dip our toes into the sea, chat with fishermen, and take photos. Reaching the base of the mountain you’ll happen upon a stretch of pristine coastline of Lang Co Peninsula .

We continue our day by visiting Nhi Ho Waterfall which allows you to have many opportunities for some great photos of this scenic region. You might want to jump into the beautiful natural lake at the bottom of the waterfall to refresh your body after a long ride.

We head south and wind up Hai Van Pass , meandering higher into the often cloud-shrouded skies. At the top, we stop and soak into the spectacular views of Vietnam's most spectacular spots. We resume back on our motorbike and ride to Marble Mountain where you will enjoy the fascinating panoramic view of Da Nang City and its surroundings. Tra Que Village is well-worth paying a visit. From here, you could experience the daily life of locals who live in the desolate countryside and enjoy their real natural hospitality. San diego arts and culture newsletter: ‘women work together’ on exhibit, this week, 'easy rider' at la paloma, the san diego film awards, roxana velasquez, al stewart and more.

I’m David L. Coddon, and here’s your guide to all things essential in San Diego’s arts and culture this week.

An ongoing exhibition in Point Loma’s Liberty Station is about more than pairs of artists teaming up to create new works – though that’s pretty impressive on its own. If you’ve ever tried to write or paint something with a partner then you know what I’m talking about. But here’s the takeaway about “Women Work Together” from its curator Elizabeth Tobias :

“Creative collaboration is such a powerful tool for new ideas and new outlooks and new ways of doing things,” she said. “Rather than being divided and having so many differences of opinion, what a wonderful possibility it is when we just create together and go through the act of creating art as a bridge culturally and emotionally.”

“Women Work Together” at the Mandell Weiss Gallery is a project of the Feminist Image Group (FIG) , described by Tobias as “a collective of artists in San Diego at all different career levels in art who identify as feminists.” There are more than 70 artist members in San Diego.

For “Women Who Work,” 11 artist duets as they’re called collaborated for four months, either in studios or virtually, to produce artworks in various mediums.

“The artists got to know each other better,” explained Tobias, whose background is in expressive art therapy. https://elizabethtobiasarts.com/  “They learned to put aside their individual styles and to communicate with someone else and create something new together.”

As for the feminism connection, “There’s something about feminism as a philosophy that’s non-hierarchical,” Tobias said. “We’re all working here as equals together.”

I can only imagine how “Easy Rider” must have shaken up the so-called Establishment when it arrived in movie theaters in 1969. The indie road film starring Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper (co-written by them with Terry Southern) gave meaning and metaphor to the biker film genre. Its depiction of the counterculture and the drug culture of the times has never been approximated in any other movie.

It’s been years since I’ve seen “Easy Rider.” The next time I do (I’m coming to that) it probably will seem like a dated period piece, a hippies-era middle finger to the ruling class in America. But I do remember that it’s a powerful film expressly created to be anti-Hollywood that in its way changed Hollywood, at least for a while. That’s why it’s still revered by many cinephiles.

Last week I told you about Encinitas filmmaker Roman Koenig’s “Red Blooded,” one of the nominees for the annual San Diego Film Awards . Those awards will be bestowed on Saturday night at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park.

The 10th San Diego Film Awards recognizes filmmakers from the student level to professionals along with the actors and technical people who are integral to this enduring art form. The awards are organized by the San Diego Film Consortium.

This show is local and purist where you’ll meet artists of all ages driven by their sheer passion for film. The celebration begins at 5 p.m.

Art lecture

I don’t usually highlight lectures, but one happening Friday at 10 a.m. at the aforementioned Museum of Photographic Arts merits mention: “The Transformative Interplay: Where Art and Architecture Converge. ”

Presented by the San Diego Museum of Art , the insights about architecture and its appreciation as an aesthetic experience will come from Roxana Velasquez, executive director and CEO of SDMA. What she has to say may change the way you view the architecture around you and enlighten you on how that can be an emotional experience.

Scottish singer-songwriter Al Stewart certainly isn’t the only person ever to be inspired by the classic film “Casablanca.” That being said, watching it back in the ‘70s gave him an intro to a new song (co-written with Peter Wood) that would make him famous: “Year of the Cat.” That nearly seven-minute-long jangly recording featured catchy piano, a killer sax solo and vivid lyrics that Bogie himself would have appreciated.

I’m pretty sure you’ll hear it live when Stewart performs on Sunday night at the Belly Up in Solana Beach . Incidentally, “Year of the Cat” still holds up today as does the rest of that album of the same name, which was produced by Alan Parsons.
