Winner of Best Musical at both the Tony Awards® and Olivier Awards®, JERSEY BOYS takes you behind the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons to discover the secret of a 40-year friendship as the foursome work their way from the streets of New Jersey to the heights of stardom. Audiences will be thrilled with electrifying performances of chart-topping hits including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You,” “Dawn,” and “My Eyes Adored You,” which brought The Four Seasons the highest honor: induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame.

The musical premiered at the La Jolla Playhouse in 2004 and ran on Broadway from 2005 to 2017, and since its debut it has been on two North American national tours and two national tours of the UK and Ireland. There have been productions of the show in Las Vegas, Chicago, Toronto, Melbourne, Singapore, South Africa, the Netherlands, Japan, Dubai, and China.

This production contains adult language and is recommended for mature audiences.

The beloved Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning smash hit musical JERSEY BOYS will once again tour the UK and Ireland, opening at New Wimbledon Theatre on 24 November 2021 booking through to 12 November 2022, with further dates to be announced.

Recipient of Broadway’s Tony, London’s Olivier and Australia’s Helpmann Awards for Best New Musical, JERSEY BOYS is the winner of 65 major awards and has been seen by over 27 million people worldwide. 

The JERSEY BOYS tour covers both the UK and Ireland, and is staged by the entire original Broadway creative team, led by the Tony Award-winning team of director Des McAnuff and choreographer Sergio Trujillo.

The Music of The Jersey Boys by Candlelight

Join us for an incredible night of smash hit’s made famous by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, performed by one of the UK’s leading Jersey Boys tribute acts and featuring an epic live band in the beautiful Derby Cathedral by candlelight.

This spectacular show combines the iconic harmonies and unrivalled showmanship of one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s most prestigious groups, ensuring their legacy continues to live on.

Performing a collection of classics such as ‘Sherry’, ‘Walk Like A Man’ and ‘Oh What a Night’, this group takes you right back to ‘late December back in ’63’ and they will certainly ‘Make this a night to remember’. 

Premium Tickets (£40.00*) are in the front centre block of seating in front of the stage.

Band A Tickets (£35.00*) are in the second block of central seating front of the stage, behind Premium.

Band B Tickets (£30.00*) are in the side blocks of seating.

Band C (£30.00*) are balcony seats with some slight viewing restrictions due to hand rails and pillars- still a good view. Access to Band C is via a staircase and is not wheelchair accessible.

Access tickets (£35.00) and include a free carer ticket.

*subject to booking fee

All seating is general admission and seats will be allocated on a first come first served basis on the evening, within the block that you have purchased tickets for.

All seating is on pews.

Band B and Band C tickets do have some slight restrictions due to pillars but all seats do have a view of the stage.

A fully licensed bar is open for the duration of the performance.

Doors open at 6.45pm, Concert starts at 19:30.

The synopsis: “In staggeringly short order, two scrappy impresarios turned an abandoned west side theater into the hottest club in the history of New York– utterly transforming music, nightlife, and celebrity culture in the process. It also transformed the lives of everyone who made it past the door, whether for one extraordinary night or every night. Until it all abruptly came to an end. Studio 54 The Musical will bring audiences past the velvet rope and into a world of unfathomable decadence, set to the thumping sound of the most iconic disco hits of the 1970s and populated by a cast of unforgettable characters, all having the time of their lives. Welcome to Studio 54.”

The legendary disco nightclub was opened by Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager in 1977 and quickly become a cultural sensation. Andy Warhol, Liza Minnelli, Truman Capote, Bianca Jagger and countless other celebrities made the venue their nighttime home-away-from-home, along with New York City’s most fabulous collection of gay, straight and trans nightclubbers. (The club on West 54th Street in Manhattan is currently a Broadway theater operated by the Roundabout Theatre Company.)

Book writer Hodge has co-written the book for the musical adaptation of Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn based on the 1942 Bing Crosby/Fred Astaire film (which had its world-premiere at Studio 54). His film work includes Netflix’s gay rom com Single All the Way and, for 20th Century Fox, The Darkest Minds. For television he created the series Wayward Pines (Fox), TNT’s Good Behavior starring Michelle Dockery, NBC’s musical series The Playboy Club , and family crime drama Runaway (CW).

Greenblatt & Meron have had separate prolific careers in network television, motion pictures, and on Broadway, and have also partnered on major musical events. Meron produced all of the live musicals at NBC which Greenblatt oversaw when head of the network – The Sound of Music Live! Peter Pan Live!, The Wiz Live!, Hairspray Live!, Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert! and Annie Live!, which they produced together.

Meron also has produced dozens of feature films and television movies spanning three decades, including some of the most successful movie musicals in recent history ( Chicago, Hairspray and, for CBS, Bette Midler’s Gypsy) .

Over the last 30 years, Greenblatt has overseen four networks (Fox, Showtime, NBC, and HBO) and launched the HBO Max streaming service. He is also an award-winning producer and recipient of the Golden Globe for Six Feet Under.

Meron and Greenblatt are also active Broadway producers, currently producing the upcoming Smash with Steven Spielberg. Meron produced Some Like It Hot, How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Promises, Promises , while Greenblatt is a four-time Tony winner in a career that began with the Broadway adaptation of Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 The Musical and went on to include Something Rotten!, Dear Evan Hansen, Mean Girls, The Inheritance and this year’s Days of Wine And Roses.

Joanne Horowitz, who will serve as Consulting Producer, was a secretary at Universal Pictures when she was first introduced to Rubell and Schrager. With access to the daily Celebrity Bulletin, she helped the club owners with inviting stars to the venue, and within weeks had quit her job at Universal to work full-time at Studio 54, where she created and oversaw its celebrity business. She was at Studio 54 for every night of its heyday, and went on to become a prominent Hollywood talent managers.

The Yuri A. Gagarin State Scientific Research-and-Testing Cosmonaut Training Center is a Russian training facility responsible for training cosmonauts for their space missions. It is in Star City of Moscow Oblast, a name which may refer to the facility itself or to its grounds. (Read more about Yury Gagarin Cosmonauts training center )

The secret Star City was built to train Soviet cosmonauts, including Yuri Gagarin, the 1st man in space. Many other famous Russian cosmonauts trained here with Gagarin: German Titov, Valentina Tereshkova, the first female cosmonaut, and Alexei Leonov, the first cosmonaut to exit the spaceship into space . The best facilities were built for them: the world’s largest centrifuge and hydro laboratory. The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

John Legend is a minimalist with maximum talent.

On Friday, June 21, the 45-year-old EGOT winner headlined at Atlantic City’s intimate yet spacious and cozy yet comfortable Borgata Casino Event Center as part of his ongoing, nationwide ‘An Evening with John Legend Tour.’ Most impressively, Legend decided to forgo a backing band and backup singers, reducing his entertaining one-man show to its most essential elements: just John Legend and a piano.

Yes, for nearly two hours — including a 15-minute intermission — it was just Legend, a Yamaha, his songs and his stories.

No, it was never dull.

Similar to Springsteen on Broadway , the affable showman opts to dig deep into his expansive back catalog, delivering familiar hits, deep cuts and soul-stirring covers while weaving in feel-good stories from his life to explain each track’s significance.

It’s a difficult high-wire act to take the stage all by yourself, but Legend is a seasoned pro — he not only put the audience at ease, he made the sold-out crowd feel as if we were chatting with him at an invite only cocktail party.

To start, the concert began a little after its 8 p.m. showtime. Lights dimmed on the smoky stage and Legend sauntered to the foreground. He waved a little wave, smiled, took a bow, jumped on the piano bench and got to work on the keys.

When Legend’s legendary brassy baritone kicked in on the evening’s opening track “Save Room,” it was clear the Atlantic City audience was in good hands. His effortless, soulful vocals are more than an auditory pleasure to witness live. For our money, hearing him linger on hook-y choruses live like “just a little” is a hair-raising luxury.

Following the jazzy opener, Legend jumped into his 2008 hit “Green Light.” However, when played live, Legend reimagines the electro-funk R&B smash instead as an upbeat piano ballad, turning it into a musical theater stomper, complete with a chorus call and response with the crowd. In no time, the all-ages crowd was taking turns singing “I’m ready to go right now” with the “The Voice” judge.

Now that he’d officially won us over, Legend switched things up and pivoted into storytelling mode.

“Let’s go back in time to the beginning,” our headliner announced. “Who’s been with me since ‘Get Lifted’?” The crowd roared.

Cheerful snapshots of a happy, sheltered childhood where he was homeschooled by his mother and raised in the church led to the night’s big punchline:

“(I’m) definitely going to hell for the songs I sang tonight.”

These humorous and occasionally heavy interstitials provided the glue for the evening. And while they were entertaining, Legend knew why his audience had paid top dollar to see him live — they wanted to hear him belt.

And belt he did.

Most impressively, he made classic rock anthems “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “God Only Knows” and “Dancin’ In The Dark” all his own. If there were ever a Karaoke Hall of Fame, Legend would clearly be a first-ballot inductee. The man could sing about mortgage refinancing and it would work. His voice is that good.

As great as the music and stories were, day-one fans will likely walk away from the show shaking their heads at all the unbelievable fun facts Legend shares about Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill , Kanye West, Jay Z, Oprah and more.

Rather than spoil the night’s juiciest jaw-dropping details, we’d recommend you see Legend in person. The music, the stories, the jokes, the name drops and the unflinching political hot takes all make for an incredible live experience that you won’t want to miss when he comes to a venue near you (hint, hint, New York readers: he’ll be in Saratoga Springs on Aug. 7).

While his wife Chrissy Teigen didn’t show up (at least at our show), Legend sure does. Over nearly two hours, he leaves everything he can and more on the stage.

Not bad for a minimalist.

Final verdict: As Marc Maron so succinctly put it on Legend’s 2020 WTF episode, “Multi(ple) generations can listen to a John Legend song and enjoy it the same way.”

He’s not wrong.

While ‘An Evening with John Legend’ often feels at times like it’s an audition for a Vegas residency, Legend never resorts to cheese or gimmicks. Like a great scene in a film just needs two actors and a conflict, all this extraordinary performer needs is his voice and his Yamaha.

Close your eyes, lose yourself in the music and ‘Get Lifted.’

Out of the Centre

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

Disco, blues, Motown and more things to do this weekend at the Jersey Shore

Are you ready to dance the night away? Got boogie fever? The Monmouth County Park System presents a Tribute to the '70s with The Discoteks at 7 p.m. Friday at the Thompson Park Theater Barn in Lincroft.

The Discoteks will play your favorite songs from the era, plus the best of Motown. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets, food and soft drinks. The free concert is outdoors, but will move inside the barn if the weather is inclement.

Motor City Revue plays Bell Works

The Motor City Revue is a 13-piece band covering popular and rare Motown and Stax hits, plus rock and soul classics. Part of the Axelrod Performing Arts Center's summer concert series at Bell Works, the group performs at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Formed in 2010, Motor City Revue plays the songs of Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes and more.

The show takes place on the outdoor deck. Tickets are $35 in advance, $45 at the door.

Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials play Tuckerton

Electrifying Chicago blues masters Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials — recently named by the Chicago Reader as the city's 2022 Blues Band Of the Year — will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lizzie Rose Music Room in Tuckerton,

"The Big Sound Of Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials" is the band’s most recent Alligator Records release. Having been together nearly four decades, Lil' Ed Williams and bassist (and Ed's half-brother) James "Pookie" Young, guitarist Mike Garrett and drummer Kelly Littleton deliver riotous, rollicking and intensely emotional blues.

Tickets are $35 advance, $40 at the door.

'Something Rotten,' 'Mary Poppins Jr.' at Surflight

Welcome to the Renaissance and the musical farce "Something Rotten,." playing through July 30 at Surflight Theatre in Beach Haven.

Brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play, but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as “The Bard.” When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theater involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical.

Tickets are $43, $33 for children 12 and younger.

Surflight has a number of shows this summer, including children's shows like "Mary Poppins Jr." Playing through Aug. 20, the show is the famous story of a musical nanny, with a twist. Tickets are $13.

Pick peaches in Freehold Township

New Jersey summer produce season is in full swing, so why not spend an afternoon picking fresh peaches?

Battleview Orchards has peaches available for picking, most likely through mid August. There is no entrance fee, and customers pay $1.89 per pound for the fruit they pick. The orchard is cash only.

The availability of pick-your-own fruit can change with the weather and number of pickers on any given day, so be sure to call and confirm before visiting.

Darryl Strawberry comes to Ocean Grove

Baseball great Darryl Strawberry will be a guest minister at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the Great Auditorium.

Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association welcomes the nine-time All Star, whose personal life was plagued with addictions and abuse. A news release said Strawberry "finally found true redemption and restoration in Jesus Christ."

As an ordained minister, Strawberry speaks a message of hope and helping others transform their lives through the power of the Gospel, a release says.

“I was once very lost and tormented, but now I am found and free in Christ Jesus," Strawberry said in the release.

Free concert in Red Bank

Free summer concerts at the United Methodist Church of Red Bank continue at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday with William Blake & Friends, playing a mixture of jazz and pop arrangements in the church's Fellowship Hall.

Born and raised in Red Bank, Blake plays piano and alto saxophone. He's a recent graduate of Red Bank Regional High School, Rockit Academy at Brookdale Community College, and the Red Bank Jazz Arts Academy . Blake will perform with Rockit Academy students on Sunday at The Cutting Room in Manhattan.

The last show in the July series at United Methodist Church is Steven Russell and Lisa Frost-Goodall at 12:30 p.m. July 26. The two have been playing together for several years now, and will perform works for flute, piano, organ and voice.

Parking is at the back of the church.

'MJ Live' in Atlantic City

Don't want to head to Broadway to see "MJ: the Musical"? How about going to Atlantic City to see "MJ LIve: the Michael Jackson Tribute Concert"?

The show highlighting the songs of the King of Pop is playing at Bally's through Sept. 3.

"MJ LIve" re-creates the electrifying stage show of Jackson, from spot-on impersonators to iconic dance moves to hits like "Billie Jean,” “Thriller” and “Beat It.” There's also a Jackson 5 segment featuring classics like “I’ll Be There,” “I Want You Back” “ABC” and more. There's dancers, a live band and dazzling lighting and effects.

The Las Vegas show opened in Atlantic City on July 7. It plays at 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 9 p.m. Fridays and 3 p.m. Sundays.

Tickets start at $30.
