NBC Studio Tour in New York

NBC Studio Tour in New York

Take a peek behind the scenes.

Image of author Steffen

Have you ever wondered how your favorite shows are being made? You can find out at the NBC Studio Tour that gives you behind-the-scenes access to many well-known shows. We participated in the TV and Movie Locations tour, including the NBC Studio Tour inside Rockefeller Center and learned about every step of the TV production process. Oh, and we also got to see some celebrities on the way!

NBC Studio Tour Ticket Counter

The Movie Locations and NBC Studio Tour in New York is a guided walk that consists of two different parts:

1. TV and Movie Locations Tour

First, your guide will show your around Midtown Manhattan to see some popular TV and Movie locations located in proximity to NBC Studios. These include film locations known from  Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Friends, Seinfeld, Sex and the City , Home Alone,  Gossip Girl , and a few others. Your guide will share some interesting facts with you, many of which actually surprised us! You’ll also have enough time to take photos at each of the locations. It’s a lot of fun trying to reproduce a few famous scenes!

2. NBC Studio Tour

In the second part of the tour, you head on over to Rockefeller Center to take the official NBC Studio Tour. During the NBC Studio Tour, you’ll get insights into the entire TV production process , starting from scriptwriting and producing to broadcasting and controlling. The tour highlight for most people, however, is seeing the film studios of the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, the Today Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers and Saturday Night Live (SNL) . Which sets you will actually get to visit depends on whether the studio is available. Sometimes it might be the case that the studio is being prepared for the next show. That’s exactly what happened when we walked past the Saturday Night Live Studio. Did you know that they create every scene for SNL from scratch?

The good news is that the SNL studio has large windows that don’t even require you to go in to see the set!

Even when just walking through the hallway, you’ll see that everything is nicely decorated with plenty of photos and other memories from NBC’s history. The entire NBC Studios reach over several floors. It’s huge!

If you’re lucky you may even catch a glimpse of one of the shows or celebrities!

However, there is obviously no guarantee for that. During our tour, we happened to walk by Today Show host Al Roker.

At the end of the NBC Studio Tour, a unique interactive experience is awaiting you: you and your group are invited to produce your own TV segment . Another great thing about it is that you’ll get to keep the video of your show! It will be sent to you via email after the tour. This is the ultimate way of testing whether you’ve got what it takes to host your own talk show!

MAD Artist Studios

visit studio nyc

MAD's Artist Studios is the only residency program of its kind in New York City—and a unique museum experience.

MAD's Artist Studios program invites visitors to ask questions, view works in progress, and gain firsthand exposure to the creative process of resident artists and designers working on site at the Museum. The residents represent diverse experimental creative practices and participate in a wide range of intergenerational public programming. Open studio hours are held Wednesday through Saturday from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm. During that time, the artists welcome Museum visitors inside their workspaces for conversation and close looking.

Established in 2008, the program is widely recognized as an innovative model for museum education and has served as an important platform for nearly 200 artists and designers. Alumni of the program have gone on to highly regarded careers, and after their time at MAD have proceeded to exhibit work at MAD and other major institutions, including the Queens Museum, Whitney Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Studio Museum, among others. The MAD Artist Fellowship was introduced in 2016 to support the practice of emerging NYC-based artists from historically underrepresented communities.

Applications are not currently being accepted.

I have old class credits for PSNY. Can I still use them to book a class?

For assistance with class credits, please contact our team at [email protected].

What’s the cost of a class at PSNY?

A class at PSNY costs $35.

Do I need to have a Peloton Membership to take a class?

No, you do not have to be a Peloton Member to take a class at PSNY. (But if you take a class and love it, you might want to start a free trial on the Peloton App !)

YOUR FIRST VISIT

When do I need to arrive?

You will need to check in 45 minutes prior to the start of class. Studio doors open 30 minutes before the start time and close 15 minutes before class begins. And don’t forget to give yourself time to change and check out our Member spaces!

How do I sign in?

What amenities are available at PSNY?

PSNY features two Member lounges that serve as spaces for our community to meet and congregate. There, you’ll find a range of refreshments including juices, cold brew, and light bites for purchase. During your visit, you can also browse our showroom, where you’ll find the latest Peloton apparel and connected fitness products.

Will there be a place to secure my stuff?

Yes, there are lockers in multiple spaces for you to leave your possessions. These lockers have built-in locks, so there’s no need to bring your own.

Can I visit if I’m not taking a class?

Members of the public are welcome to visit the plaza level of PSNY Thursday through Monday. Stay tuned for additional opportunities to see the full studio space!

TAKING CLASSES

Will I be on camera?

Possibly! Our studio classes are filmed for our livestream and on-demand library. You may or may not be visible on camera, depending on your spot and how that particular class is filmed. Generally, the studio is dark and only the instructor is well lit—so no need to worry if you're camera shy.

Do I need to bring cycling shoes? Towels? A water bottle?

If you’re taking a Peloton Bike class, cycling shoes will be provided for free. We’ll also supply you with fresh towels for all your workouts. We do encourage Members to bring their own water bottles, which can be filled up at stations throughout the building. (If you forget though, there’s water available for purchase too.)

I’d like to bring my own cycling shoes. What pedals do the Bikes at PSNY use? Our studio pedals are dual sided and will be compatible with both SPD and Delta clips.

What if I don’t know my Peloton Bike settings?

Don’t worry! We’ve got Peloton employees in the studio who will be able to help you figure out the optimal settings for your Bike. Doors to class open 30 minutes early, so you’ll have plenty of time to get set up and ready for class.

Can I send high fives during class?

Yes! Our in-studio Leaderboard has now been expanded to include all Members, not just the ones in the room with you. That means you’ll be able to send high fives to at-home participants too.

If I’m taking a yoga class, will I need to bring my own mat and props?

No, mats and props will be provided for you.

WHILE YOU’RE THERE

At the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) each artist and curator is provided with a private and furnished studio space and 24-hour access to all communal facilities. While ISCP does not provide accommodation, most International Program sponsorships include stipends for living expenses, travel, materials and housing. All residents at ISCP are encouraged to take advantage of the in-house community of artists and curators, offering invaluable international and local networks, professional conversations and critique.

An International Program residency at ISCP is typically three to six months, although artists and curators can apply for up to one year. While in the International Program, all residents are invited to participate in a number of activities in and outside of ISCP including the four core program activities: Visiting Critics, Field Trips, Artists and Work and Open Studios.

Visiting Critics

The Visiting Critic series is the hallmark of ISCP’s residency program. It introduces residents to professionals from museums, galleries, alternative spaces and publications within the context of a studio visit, generating critical feedback from diverse positions.

Field Trips

ISCP organizes visits to museums, galleries, alternative spaces, archives and other places of interest to art professionals. Often, a curator or staff member introduces the institution’s mission and program. Past Field Trips have included the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Conservation Department at MoMA, Dia:Beacon, Art Omi, art spaces in SoHo and on the Lower East Side, private collections and many other institutions in Greater New York.

Open Studios

Twice a year, in April and November, ISCP hosts two-day Open Studios, presenting work by the 35 ISCP artists and curators in residence, accompanied by performances, panel discussions and exhibitions. During Open Studios, residents present recent projects, work in progress, site-specific installations and their archives to thousands of professionals and art enthusiasts from New York and beyond.

Artists at Work

Residents at ISCP are invited to present their recent work in monthly public ‘Artists at Work’ presentations. These events feature lectures, screenings and performances, and introduce the work of ISCP artists and curators to the New York art community.

The Ground Floor residency is a one-year program that offers subsidized workspace and professional development for New York City-based artists. Launched in 2015, Ground Floor at ISCP takes place on the first floor of ISCP in tandem with ISCP’s acclaimed international residency program, forming an integral part of the dynamic, in-house fusion of artists and curators from all over the world.

Throughout the year, ISCP organizes professional development activities specifically for Ground Floor artists, including regular one-on-one meetings with Visiting Critics. Past critics include Ruba Katrib, Polly Apfelbaum, Jim Hodges, Gee Wesley, and Piper Marshall. In addition, Ground Floor artists are invited to make proposals for ISCP’s project space, participate in three open studios events annually, and attend monthly social gatherings.

International Program at ISCP

Artists and curators from anywhere in the world, including the United States, can apply for International Program residencies at ISCP.

Current ISCP Open Calls (scroll down for more information on each):

  • ISCP Direct Application – no deadline to apply
  • ISCP Jane Farver Curatorial Residency – deadline: June 3, 2024

There are three ways of applying to the International Program: 1) a partner application 2) by ISCP open call or 3) a direct application. These residencies are generally between three and twelve months and are sponsored by governments, corporations, foundations, institutions, organizations, galleries and private patrons. Each artist or curator is provided with 24-hour access to his or her studio, and free wireless internet. In addition, all residents can use ISCP’s common areas. ISCP does not provide or arrange living accommodation, however, a number of partner sponsors, who send participants to ISCP each year, have furnished apartments for residents. In addition, sponsors often give a stipend for accommodation, living expenses, travel and materials.

Partner application

ISCP collaborates with over forty partner governments, institutions and organizations to fund residency opportunities. Partner sponsors publicly call for applications for residencies at ISCP. Over the course of the year, ISCP holds various open calls. Open calls are often sponsored by partner sponsors and are fully funded. Applicants will apply to ISCP directly meeting the specific parameters of the open call application and its process. Please check our open calls page regularly for more information and opportunities.

Direct application

If you wish to apply directly to ISCP, please read the information below carefully:

  • Please email the application form and supporting materials to [email protected]. ISCP does not locate sponsors for direct applicants.
  • Once accepted, artists and curators are responsible for securing funding. Please have a look at our previous sponsors for potential funding sources.
  • When planning your residency, please bear in mind that residencies are scheduled approximately one-two years in advance. There is extremely limited availability for 2024, and we are currently scheduling for 2025-26.
  • There is no deadline and the application review takes place every two months.
  • ISCP does not accept applications from artists or curators currently enrolled in school.
  • ISCP requires that artists and curators in residence are highly proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Due to the volume of applications received, ISCP is unable to provide feedback for unsuccessful applications.

The following steps must be taken in the order below before an applicant can be accepted into ISCP’s International Program:

  • Application is sent to ISCP.
  • ISCP’s panel reviews the application within two months.
  • If the application is successful, the applicant receives an acceptance letter.
  • Applicant has two years from the date of the acceptance letter to locate funding.
  • When funding has been secured by applicant, ISCP confirms directly with sponsor. Residencies cannot be self-funded or crowdfunded.
  • When sponsor has confirmed, ISCP staff and applicant schedule residency.
  • If necessary, applicant must apply for a US visa (see below).
  • Applicant makes appointment with ISCP staff and arrives in New York.

The program fee for 2024 is $29,297.16 to $32,381.28 per year or $2,441.43 to $2,698.44 per month. The program fee for 2025 is $30,176.07 to $33,352.72 or $2,514.67 to $2,779.39 per month. In addition, the applicant needs to calculate accommodation, living, travel and health insurance costs for the duration of their stay in New York. Addendum for foreign applicants regarding visa application: Once a contract has been signed between the sponsor and ISCP, residents should immediately begin the process of securing a visa to enter the United States. The U.S. State Department’s consular website can be checked to confirm visa eligibility and requirements: http://travel.state.gov/ ISCP recommends making contact immediately with the nearest United States Consulate or Embassy in the resident’s home country. ISCP residents generally enter the United States on a B1/B2 visa, which is issued for business/tourist purposes. Upon request, ISCP will provide a letter in support of the visa application to incoming participants.

ABOUT JANE FARVER

This residency honors ISCP’s trustee Jane Farver (1947-2015), pioneering American curator and writer, who is globally recognized as a champion of contemporary artists, especially those working outside mainstream Western art historical canons. Among her best-known projects was the 1999 exhibition, Global Conceptualism: Points of Origin 1950s-1980s , organized while she was Director of Exhibitions for the Queens Museum from 1992-1999, and which traveled to the Walker Art Center, Miami Art Museum and MIT List Visual Arts Center. Other presentations she curated at the Queens Museum include Across the Pacific: Contemporary Korean and Korean American Art ; Cai Guo-Qiang, Cultural Melting Bath: Projects for the 20th Century ; and Out of India: Contemporary Art of the South Asian Diaspora . From 1999 to 2011, Farver was director of the List Visual Arts Center at MIT, where she organized solo exhibitions and projects by artists including Mel Chin, Michael Joo, Paul Pfeiffer, Runa Islam, and Tavares Strachan. Among numerous biennials, Farver curated the Incheon Women Artists’ Biennale in South Korea in 2011, and she was co-commissioner of the American artist Paul Pfeiffer at the 9th Cairo Biennial, and was one of six curators of the 2000 Whitney Biennial. Farver’s early career began in Cleveland, where she was director of Spaces, then she moved to New York where she was director at Tomoko Liguori Gallery, followed by directorship of the Lehman College Art Gallery in the Bronx. Her husband, the American artist and curator John L. Moore, has played an instrumental role in supporting ISCP’s efforts to build a residency in Jane Farver’s honor.

Billionaire Plans Dive to the Titanic in a Newly Designed Submersible

Larry Connor, 74, who made his wealth in real estate, said he’s building a new acrylic-hulled submersible that will be certified and rigorously tested to show that deep sea exploration is safe.

By Emily Schmall and Orlando Mayorquín

A real estate billionaire in Ohio is planning an underwater voyage to the site of the Titanic shipwreck, where a submersible imploded on its approach to the sea floor a year ago, killing all five passengers on board.

Shortly after the OceanGate disaster, Larry Connor, 74, a real estate investor and amateur adventurer, contacted the co-founder of Triton Submarines, Patrick Lahey, imploring him to build a submarine that could reach the depths of the Titanic safely and repeatedly, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The two men aim to explore and conduct scientific research at the site, located off the coast of Newfoundland, 12,500 feet under the sea, in a two-person submersible that Triton is designing in the summer of 2026.

“Ours is just not a trip to the Titanic,” Mr. Connor said in an interview on Tuesday. “It’s a research mission.”

“The other purpose is to demonstrate to people around the globe that you can build a revolutionary, first-of-its-kind sub and dive it safely and successfully to great depths,” he added.

The custom sub, which Mr. Connor plans to call “The Explorer — Return to the Titanic,” is still in the design phase and will be based on an existing submarine design that Mr. Lahey had worked on for years. It is listed on the Triton website as the Abyssal Explorer, an acrylic-hulled vessel than can reach depths of 13,000 feet, “the perfect submersible for repeated trips to the deep ocean.”

“Once subsurface, the submersible’s hydrodynamic shape — with wings folded — speeds the descent to 13,000 feet,” the company said on its website. “The journey takes less than two hours, significantly faster than previously possible.” It will be the first acrylic-hulled sub to reach such depths, Mr. Connor said, expanding the visibility of a deep-sea sub from small window portals and cameras to a 320-degree view.

“Frankly, the technology didn’t exist even six or eight years ago,” Mr. Connor said. “It’s only been with recent developments in the last five years that you could build this.”

An interview request with Mr. Lahey was referred to Mr. Connor’s spokesman, who said that only Mr. Connor would speak about the expedition.

Mr. Connor said his interest in venturing down to the Titanic in a new vessel stems from his broader interest in advancing ocean exploration, in this case by innovating the field's best tool — the submersible.

“The best way, in my limited experience, to explore the ocean, is in a submersible,” he said.

The final cost of the sub is still to be determined, but Mr. Connor said it would be in the millions.

Mr. Connor took great pains to contrast the submersible that he plans to use on his dive to the Titanic with that used in the deadly voyage to the sunken ship a year ago.

After the Titan disaster on June 18, 2023, criticism emerged from recreational and professional underwater explorers about the vessel’s cost-saving design choices .

The vessel disappeared under the dark waters of the North Atlantic, losing contact with its Canadian expedition ship on the surface, MV Polar Prince, about 400 miles south of St. John’s, Newfoundland, an hour and 45 minutes into its journey.

On board were Stockton Rush , 61, the founder and chief executive of OceanGate Expeditions, who was piloting the vessel; Hamish Harding , 58, a British businessman and explorer; Paul-Henri Nargeolet , 77, a French maritime expert; Shahzada Dawood , 48, a British Pakistani businessman; and his son, Suleman, 19.

Six days later, a multinational search ended with evidence of a catastrophic implosion that left no survivors.

Until the Titan disaster, no one had ever died while piloting or riding a submersible in the deep sea, a safety record that stood for nearly a century, despite explorers making many thousands of dives.

Mr. Connor contends that the OceanGate episode has hurt the submersible industry and tainted the public’s perceptions of attempts to innovate in the space.

“I’m concerned that people associate diving subs, especially new or different subs, with danger or tragedy,” Mr. Connor said.

Mr. Connor said he wanted to reassert the safety of well-made submersibles, certified (which the industry calls classified) by respected organizations that do rigorous testing. Mr. Connor says the sub would be certified, and take two and a half to three years to build.

OceanGate’s experimental Titan design was not certified, which Mr. Rush advertised as proof of the sub’s cutting-edge innovation even as industry experts expressed concern about the vessel’s safety.

Mr. Connor, on the other hand, said he had a reputation for never taking on “unacceptable risk.”

“If we can’t do it, what we call ‘s and s’ — safely and successfully — we’re just not going to do it,” Mr. Connor said. “We’re not thrill-seekers. We’re not big risk-takers.”

Mr. Connor is also a record-setting skydiver , astronaut and deep-sea explorer, who in 2021 joined Mr. Lahey on three deep dives in five days at the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific Ocean, some 200 miles off the coast of Guam. Their vessel, a Triton-built sub known as D.S.V. Limiting Factor, reached sea depths of about 35,000 feet, taller than Mount Everest.

In April 2022, Mr. Connor joined two other paying customers and a retired NASA astronaut on a SpaceX flight to the International Space Station, the first such mission manned only by private citizens and NASA’s first foray in space tourism.

During the eight-day mission, which cost Mr. Connor and the other two customers $55 million each, Mr. Connor and others conducted a series of research experiments in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic and other medical organizations.

An earlier version of this article incorrectly described a submersible safety record prior to the Titan submersible disaster. No one had died on a submersible in the deep sea, but there had been deaths on submersibles in shallower water.

New York Stock Exchange says technical issue fixed after Berkshire Hathaway incorrectly shown to fall 99%

Stock market numbers are seen as traders work on the floor of the New York Stock exchange

Normal trading resumed late Monday morning after the New York Stock Exchange said a technical issue had led to large fluctuations in the prices displayed for certain stocks, including Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway .

A little after 11 a.m. ET, the NYSE said the issue involved the market's main electronic stock price publisher, but that most stocks had since reopened or were in the process of reopening.

“Shortly before noon, the issue was resolved and trading in the impacted stocks resumed,” the exchange said in a statement. “The NYSE is reviewing potentially impacted trades.”

In a statement, the publisher, Consolidated Tape Association, said the issue may have been related to a software update that impacted price "bands" or the electronic guardrails that limit volatility. It said it had resolved the issue by reverting operations to a data center where the previous software was still in use.

Some 50 stocks were affected, the website indicated , and trades in those companies were halted for about an hour.

The issue caused the NYSE to incorrectly show so-called Class A shares of Berkshire down 99% from their price of about $620,000 a share. Those shares resumed trading at normal levels around 11:35 a.m. ET.

Other shares affected included AMC Entertainment , Chipotle and GameStop .

Earlier, GameStop shares soared after trader Keith Gill, known as "Roaring Kitty" on social media, apparently posted that he was increasing his bet on the stock.
