Yes! The holidays are an exciting time to travel on our Europe trips because they offer an exceptional opportunity to visit Europe’s Christmas Markets  and to experience countries’ unique holiday traditions. The holidays are a magical time in many European countries, allowing you to soak in the seasonal ambiance, enjoy festive food, and pick up unique gifts.

Thankfully, that’s a tough question to answer, as so many European countries offer delicious food. Ultimately, it’s a matter of personal preference, so you’re sure to find something you love no matter which country you visit. One strong contender for the top spot, however, is Italy.

Best known for its pasta, pizza, cheeses, and gelato, Italy is a foodie’s delight. That’s because the purest expression of Italian cooking relies on farm-fresh ingredients, and the cuisine changes from region to region. Fresh, delicious, and unlike anything you’ve tried outside the country, Italian food never disappoints the palate.

Another foodie's favorite destination in Europe is France. From its boeuf bourguignon to its pain au chocolat, France is known for its world-class culinary scene and timeless favorite dishes. While you’re guaranteed to taste delicious dishes no matter where you travel to France , the type of French food you’ll find depends on the region and season. The north of France features heavier dishes; the south features fresh fish, lean meat, and grilled vegetables.

While individual countries take pride in their languages, English is widely spoken in Europe.

We recommend packing light for your trip to Europe. One suitcase and one carry-on per person is a good guideline to follow; you should feel comfortable managing your baggage at the airport. After you’ve reserved one of our Europe tour packages, we’ll give you information about how to prepare for your particular trip and even share a packing list in our mobile app.

  • Sun protection. For all our trips, especially during the summer months in Europe, we recommend bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect your face and the back of your neck from the sun.
  • Layers. For tours of Europe, we recommend packing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that can be easily layered to accommodate varying temperatures, as well as a light jacket or rainwear.
  • Comfortable walking shoes. Because you’ll be exploring new destinations with local guides while on your trip, a comfortable pair of walking shoes is essential. Whether hitting the landmarks of London or on a walking tour of Amsterdam, you’ll be glad you brought your most comfortable footwear.
  • Dressier attire. You may want to pack dressier attire if you plan to visit a high-end restaurant or attend a special performance on any of our Europe trips.
  • Full-coverage layers for religious sites. In Europe, it is preferable not to visit churches, temples, or other religious sites with bare legs or shoulders, and entrance may be denied on this basis.
  • Other must-bring items. A camera to take photos during your journey, and a notebook for jotting down notes or recommendations your Tour Director shares.

These periods largely include the beauty of the cathedrals, four-gated city of Mediolanum, and intricately constructed neighbourhoods. The Spanish domination brought various changes to the architectural trends which resulted in the involvement of pastel colours and brick structures.

Milan has more than its share of attractions along with iconic historical edifices. The city’s icons are filled with an influential and rich cultural heritage. Milan’s Duomo boasts of Gothic architecture and serves as the most visited tourist attraction. For art fanatics, the city has a plethora of art museums, Leonardi Da Vinci’s Last Supper and Pinacoteca di Brera. If you wish to explore the bohemian side of Milan, head to the neighbourhoods of Ticinese and Porta Romana.  When it comes to things to do in Milan, there are plenty of options to dive into. Embrace the local trend of aperitivo at the Brera neighbourhood and cherish the “When in Milan, do as the Milanese do” vibe. Lined up with chic cafes and bars, tourists often visit this place for admiring the Renaissance-style architecture. Or, you can head to Navigli to cruise over the canals of Milan. If you’re a shopaholic then head to the shopping haven of Milan, Galleria Emmanuele II.  Milan has a continental and humid subtropical climate. The temperature is majorly affected by the Alps and the Apennine Mountains. These plains act as a natural barrier to protect Milan from major circulations of northern Europe and the sea. Here, weather usually witness hot and humid summers, damp and chilly winters, and heavy rainfall.

Lviv, the largest city in western Ukraine, is mostly visited by tourists with an interest in the history and culture of a place. Feel yourself to be taken back in the bygone era while listening to the history of the city established in 1240. The city was named after Leo, the oldest son of the King of Ruthenia.  The beauty of the city lies in its medieval Renaissance-era buildings with western-influenced architectures giving it an old charm.  Gravitate to this city to visit the UNESCO protected old town with several museums and monuments. Delight in watching the tall mellow-hued buildings in the area of Rynok Square. A must-visit place in Lviv is the National Art Gallery, which is the home to over 50,000 works of art.  While visiting Ukraine, spend an enjoyable time visiting cultural hubs with art galleries, watching opera and ballet performances, and spending some time in the cafe culture. For nighttime, there are local pubs and quirky bars.  In Lviv the winter months are very cold and harsh, making it difficult to enjoy sightseeing. The autumn and spring months are very pleasant making it the best time for a visit to this city.

It was excellent. I enjoyed it

I was beyond satisfied with the tour of Eastern Europe. All ran like a well Oiled machine
My first tour to Europe with my family was the best, can’t ask for a better time. Great team, tour leader Jemma and the coach Coen, thanks much. The itinerary was as described, everything was on time. Definitely I will planning again.

Rianna was our trip manager for our tour of Europe last Summer - I couldn't have asked for a better tour guide for my first solo trip overseas. Rianna went above & beyond to ensure we all got the most out of every experience, and her organisation was integral to the trip running smoothly. I would absolutely book another trip with her in the future.
Couldn’t have asked for a better guide than Rianna, she made sure everyone was all sorted out with any issues or problems they had, was happy to fill us in on the history of any cool looking buildings or monuments we went by, joined in on all our stupid jokes and as a cherry on top would make sure we all heard her ‘great’ joke of the day each morning.

Good - the tour itself was great, however the booking experience I found to be a bit clunky. the insurance arrangement - further streamlining of this process would be beneficial so the medical can be added on at the beginning. Otherwise the rest of the 'good to go' process seemed painless.
The itinerary, boat, and skipper (Ivan) all exceeded my expectations. Croatia is incredible and Ivan made it interesting and relaxing. Seeing it by boat was incredible. Everyone on board had a good attitude, which helped a lot. I highly recommend this route.

First time on Intrepid cycle trip. The leaders Davor and Tomi are outstanding! Slovenia is a beautiful country and the cycling experience is wonderful. I very highly recommend! I was nervous that my 62 year old legs and casual cycling would leave me struggling but the bicycles provided were excellent. I had a hybrid 30 gear bicycle provided, three riders opted for e- bikes. The experience includes being immersed in the geology, culture, and many exposures to Slovenian cuisine.
The itinerary and guide were excellent. We cover the places we most wanted to see. The accommodation in Istanbul (Marisol) could have been much better. We stayed an extra night prior to the tour and found the hotel rather run down and ready for a renovation. We had to change rooms after 1st night as noisy and placed over the foyer where staff hang outside smoking and talking at all hours. 2nd room required and repair of the toilet flusher as it fell into the wall. A/C seemed to be set on heat and would not allow a change to cool. This was the case in ALL rooms and noted also by our travel companions. One couple changed hotels at end of trip rather than stay again (even though it was incl in the tour). Enough said on this. Our guide Ahmet was great. Always helpful, available and welcoming of any issue. Very knowledgeable of all the historic sites and Turkish history.

10/10 for our guide Erdem. Very impressive hospitality, attention to detail and Itenerary
I am using Travel Talk Tours for the first time. I am taking three tours back to back. I would like to share my experience with the first tour that just ended, the Balkans tour. The tour was well organized. Each day brought change in scenery and destination with enough time to make our own exploration. The hotel accommodations were great. Special thanks to our tour director, Simon, who was absolutely fabulous, extremely knowledgeable, professional, friendly, and very helpful at all times. Thank you to Sacha, our driver, for all his help with our luggage and keeping us safe. The whole group got along so well. Long lasting memories and friendships were made.

You need better communication regarding time lines. I was disappointed with the information gives to us. Others on the same trip had better information but booked through a travel agent. 15 day tour is only 12 days. We had to stay an extra day in London for no good reason. We never heard from the tour director untill 10 mims before the bus was leaving. No information was at the hotel, i went around asking peoeif they were on tour with costsaver. I found someone and rushed to getpacked and find the bus. Director said she did not have my contact information. Others said the same thing. Bus driver was great. Director should talk more history and less fairy tales. Everything else was very good for the area we covered.
Too long on bus between stops and interesting sites

Globus

  • Excellent - 74,895 reviews for Europe tours
Had to call Globus three times before trip to get the final travel packet. Each time I called ,was told that someone would take care of this. Bus driver Glenn and tour guide Clive were great. Mic on bus kept cutting out and the people in the back of the bus could not hear. Would have like to have spent a day in Belfast and seen the Titanic museum ,All that Belfast was just a bathroom break and all I saw of Belfast was the washroom inside City Hall. If we had spent a day in Belfast I, wouldn't been so tried by the time we got to Scotland. Also would have like to have another in York. When we returned to London, somewhere from the time the bus arrived at the hotel till they unloaded the bags and put them on the luggage cart and bought them to the room, the porter broke my bag and the wheel came off. When I reported this to the hotel was told " these things happen", too bad, so sad " have your insurance company buy you a new bag". I had to try to get back home with a big with three wheel.
Our tour guide Sabina did an excellent job. The program was really well thought out.

This tour cover everything that Albania has to offer historically while sightseeing the amazing location and stunning scenery. It was done in an easy pace with beautiful and well thought of hotels. The transport was first class and the experience was not rushed. Daniel our tour guide was so knowledgeable of his subject and gave us great options for excellent restaurants and eateries. He went above and beyond his duties as a tour guide to ensure we had a stress free tour.. His driving skills were impeccable and we felt 100% safe at all times
Great tour. Covered a huge amount of the Balkans in a short space of time. This means a lot of driving to get from one place to another but if you are short of time this tour is perfect for seeing the highlights. One downside was the use of an electric car, which although was a noble attempt to be environmentally friendly, led to us having to stop a couple of times to charge. The places visited were very good. Our guide, Amarlido, was excellent - knowledgeable, good chat, and had great recommendations for things to see and places to eat. I had never prayed with a tour leader in a mosque before and this was an amazing experience for us! Overall, I would definitely recommend this tour group and itinerary.

Insight Vacations

Combined two buses so more than 40 travelers at all activities although insight emphasizes small groups Extremely long walk from buses to hotels and activities. Flower show relatively small..most of grounds for a large flea market including clothes, robot vacuums. So crowded you literally could not walk or find somewhere to sit or eat. Flower auction was a two mile circular walk above machines delivering flowers. There was no auction or person to describe it. Amsterdam boat meal was mashed potatoes and a forkful of meat…disgusting. Bruges too small for large group. Fell on three- legged stool in corner of chocolate shop trying to see demonstration. Ypres visit meaningless. 30 minutes to eat dinner and so many people you cannot see event. Just see heads of crowd. Became too sick from hours long walks in rain getting to and from buses to hotels and activities to see France. Would rate this trip 0.

Got to see many places in turkey and learn lots about the country and its people and culture and history
Tour was good except for Hotels Granada and Valencia which were too far from the old City. Also these 2 hotels had the shower over the bath which is dangerous for most of us over 70’s. As it was a Premium Tour this is not good enough. Tour leader was very nice and did a good job but we would’ve liked some information about the areas ie weather population crops etc, especially on the long trips fr Granada to Valencia and Valencia to Barcelona. Also having to take our own luggage from bus to station in Seville onto train and from train to bus is not good enough for a premium tour.

Compared to a recent tour in Ireland with another company, you were a great improvement. The idea of a walking tour the first morning in each Capitol was an excellent strategy. The group leaders did a great job dealing with 3 distinct language sub-groups. Sightseeing, shopping and restaurant recommendations were available for the asking. The evening dinners and the organ concert were less successful. Attendance was modest, the meals did not offer good value and the music was depressing. I would have no hesitation in recommending this program to others.
The hotels were modern and nice, but not necessarily in the old town center. The 3 local tour guides were informative. We also had free time. The new year’s eve gala had 2 buffets and hilarious entertainment! Fun trip with people from different countries!

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Please remember that of all these tours are private and can be adjusted to your taste. You can add, replace or skip some sights; you can add more days to the package or cut the tour short. Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. What you need to know about European travel this summer

With headlines warning of everything from flight delays to wildfires, summer travel is changing. Here’s how to make sure your trip this summer goes smoothly.

Record numbers of tourists are expected to visit Europe this summer. In the first three months of 2024, the number of international arrivals has already risen by 7.2% compared to 2019’s pre-pandemic figures, according to the European Travel Commission , with 120 million international tourists visiting the region in that time. Yet while this is welcome news for the tourism industry, some challenges remain for visitors, especially during the summer’s busy peak season, when potential flight delays, high temperatures, new laws and major events could all impact travel. Here’s what you need to know to make sure your European trip this summer goes smoothly.

1. What you need to know about flight disruptions

Increased passenger numbers, staff shortages and strikes meant there were 106.7 million delayed air passengers in Europe during peak summer months last year. More than 700,000 passengers were affected over the August bank holiday in the UK alone following a technical meltdown at air traffic control. This year, EasyJet has had to cancel over 100 flights from Paris due to a no-fly zone during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Ryanair has also cut flights from its summer schedule after the delivery of several of its new Boeing aircraft was delayed. If you’re due to fly, visit the airport’s website for the latest information, and check social media for real-time updates from other travellers. Remember that you may be owed compensation if you face disruption, but rules vary, so take out a travel insurance policy as soon as you book flights.

( What should you do if your flight is delayed or cancelled? )

2. Why you should consider travelling by train

Keep your carbon footprint low, avoid airport hassle and see even more of Europe this summer by taking advantage of a whole host of new and expanded routes across the continent. New services include a high-speed route connecting Barcelona to Madrid and Seville , a sleeper train from Brussels to Prague , a daily train between Vilnius and Riga , a relaunched night train between Paris and Nice and a sleeper train from Rome to the Dolomites . Following the success of Germany’s €49 unlimited monthly travel pass last year, France has also introduced its own nationwide rail pass for the same price. However, this is only valid for those under 27 and excludes high-speed TGV trains and travel in the greater Paris region of Ile-de-France.

( 6 of the world’s best coastal rail journeys .)

3. What to do you if you’re affected by wildfires

Following unprecedented high temperatures, wildfires swept through some of Europe’s most popular tourist spots last summer, scorching parts of Tenerife, mainland Spain, Greece, Portugal and Italy. This year, protective measures have already been put in place that aim to prevent a repeat of the disaster, with Greece banning all outdoor fires from April and increasing investment in fire detection and water tankers. To ensure you’re protected if the worst happens, arrange travel insurance at the time of booking, then keep an eye on official travel advisories for up-to-date information. If you’re affected by wildfires or any other natural disasters when you’re away, follow the advice of the emergency services and evacuate when instructed, then contact your tour operator or airline for help getting home.

( What to do if you’re caught in a disaster while travelling. )

4. How big events could disrupt your travel

From Taylor Swift’s tour across Europe to the UEFA European Championship in Germany, Europe is limbering up for a summer of major cultural and sporting events. The Olympic Games in Paris are expected to attract three million more visitors than usual . This is likely to mean a greater demand for accommodation, higher prices, crowded public transport, unexpected road closures and even increased security checks in response to the heightened risk of terrorist attacks. If your holiday does coincide with an event, try to explore beyond the city itself, visit nearby tourist attractions that could be quieter than normal, or just enjoy the inevitable citywide buzz surrounding the main event.

( How to explore Paris this summer beyond the Olympics. )

5. Why you should think about overcrowding

While many destinations welcome a return to pre-pandemic levels of tourism, others are actively trying to deter visitors. In Barcelona , tour groups have been capped at 20 people, while entrance to Athens’ Acropolis is now limited to 20,000 tourists each day. Dubrovnik has already cut the number of souvenir stands by 80%, while thousands attended an anti-tourism protest in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in April. All are concerned that overcrowding leads to skyrocketing prices for locals and causes environmental damage, with increased plastic pollution, erosion of heritage sites and traffic congestion. Consider less-visited destinations instead, swapping Santorini for Folegandros an hour’s ferry ride away, Dubrovnik for Šibenik with its medieval centre and fortress, or Barcelona for the Spanish seaside city of Valencia.

( What’s the problem with overtourism? )

6. How to deal with heatwaves

2023 was the hottest year on record globally, with temperatures in Europe above average for 11 months of the year. The Mediterranean was the worst area affected, with temperatures soaring above 40°C across Italy, Spain, Turkey, Cyprus and Greece. Consider travelling outside the hottest months, between July and September, or visiting destinations further north such as Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Lithuania or Ireland which should escape the most intense heat. If temperatures do climb, wear high-factor SPF, avoid being outside in the middle of the day and wear light-coloured clothes made from breathable materials. Avoid alcohol and drink plenty of water, and keep a close eye on vulnerable people, including young children and the elderly.

7. How to avoid being caught out by local laws and taxes

Do your research before travelling to make sure you don’t fall foul of new laws. A €5 tax for day-trippers was introduced in Venice in April, for example, and will be enforced on selected dates until July. It can be paid online in advance, and those staying overnight are exempt but do still need to register. A second tourist tax of €1 to €5 per night is already applicable to overnight stays and should be paid at your hotel. Be aware that some Airbnbs ask that this is paid in cash. Other new rules in parts of Mallorca and Ibiza ban drinking on the street and prevent shops selling alcohol at night, though you will still be able to buy drinks in bars and restaurants.

europe sightseeing tours

Equipmake has secured a successive contract with Golden Tours , to repower a further ten Volvo B5 London Tour Buses , using its in-house developed Zero-Emission Drivetrain (ZED).

This contract follows a £2million initial order in February from Golden Tours. In the same sightseeing segment, Equipmake has already been working with Big Bus Tours . The technology company has also updated to latest generation electric drivetrains a fleet of 12 Optare Versa early-generation e-buses .

Equipmake converting sightseeing buses for Golden Tours

Golden Tours was established in 1984 and specialises in London sightseeing and UK tourism, providing high quality tours around the capital and day trips to UK locations such as Stonehenge and Bath. Golden Tours has an established partnership with internationally renowned Gray Line Association, the largest sightseeing tour company globally, and is a preferred partner of Warner Bros. Studio Tour London. Equipmake expects to commence delivery of these ten repowered buses over the coming months.

Equipmake’s ZED, which will be integrated in each of Golden Tours bus, is a modular and scalable repowering solution , its versatility making it applicable to both single and double-deck applications. The technology features Equipmake’s in-house developed electric motor, inverter, and power electronics , which are combined with the latest lithium-ion batteries.

One of the most innovative and important features of the ZED is its patented, ultra-efficient thermal management system

An advanced water-glycol cooling circuit brings an additional benefit by providing interior heating during cold conditions with captured thermal energy. Once the battery has been depleted following a duty cycle, it can be recharged at the depot via a CCS DC charging point.

Ian Foley , CEO, Equipmake said: “Golden Tours is a leading tour and activity company in London and across the UK, and I am pleased to announce it has followed its February order with another substantial commitment for Equipmake-repowered buses. This new contract is testament to the quality and reliability of our products and reflects an increasing move in the sector towards sustainable operational alternatives. Equipmake’s bus repowering provides an economically compelling alternative to purchasing new electric vehicles and we are delighted that we can support Golden Tours as it works to make its fleet sustainable.”

Mikesh Palan , Managing Director at Golden Tours, added: “By extending our relationship with Equipmake, Golden Tours is ensuring its operations are as sustainable as possible. We offer bus services to the UK’s most famous and iconic locations, and by partnering with Equipmake, we will enhance our services for thousands of passengers a day. The cutting-edge capabilities of Equipmake’s Zero-Emission Drivetrain and its many cost, sustainability and efficiency advantages highlighted clear benefits of this continued partnership. We look forward to bringing these electric buses into service and continuing to put sustainability at the forefront of our business strategy.”
