Marion Gatchell, Howard Gatchell, and Grant Gatchell are the directors for Voyagers Zambia Limited. They offer a great wealth of knowledge in travel management, accounts, and general business management.

In the late 1980s, Marion was a highly successful travel consultant and manager with over a decade of experience in the Zambian travel industry and at this stage having worked for TG Travel, Steve Blagus and Bonar Travel. In fact, Marion’s travel roots go further back to when her father, George Jerrard, and Howard’s father, Doug Gatchell, started an airline based in Ndola called Zamair which ran 13 aircrafts across Zambia. This platform served as a base for Marion, and also a ‘Round the World’ ticket when she was 21 ignited a lifelong passion for travel and discovery that found expression in Voyagers.

Howard Gatchell FCA is a qualified chartered accountant and has extensive business experience in Zambia and the region; in the early seventies Howard ran several businesses before selling them and joining Lonrho, a London based Plc. Whilst at Lonrho, Howard ran Teal Record Company and Vitratex Paints Ltd before heading up the Lonrho Brewing Division which included National Breweries and Northern Breweries in Zambia and Chibuku Products in Malawi. In 1998 Howard sold the Brewing Division to South African Breweries and joined Voyagers® full time in 2000 initially working mainly in the car rental side of the business.

Grant Gatchell is a qualified accountant and a director and shareholder of a number of companies including Voyagers Rentals, Voyagers Limited, Rutland Limited, Zamair as well as African Insurance Brokers.

Grant has played a key role in the development and growth of the Voyagers Group of companies into Zambia’s leading travel agency and car rental organisation with a specific focus on corporate strategy, marketing, ICT and general management.

Our history, established in 1987 by marion gatchell, voyagers zambia has been providing expert travel services to zambian and international clients for 35 years..

Voyagers® started to offer incoming tours late in the 1980s, becoming one of the first Zambian firms to visit the World Travel Market in London and working with many of the safari industry start-ups at the time, including Norman Carr Safaris, Tongabezi and Robin Pope Safaris.

In 1995 Voyagers® Rentals was started with a single car to provide car hire services. Voyagers® Rentals has grown steadily since then and now offers a wide range of vehicles and locations throughout Zambia. Voyagers® Rentals held the franchise for Imperial in Zambia for many years before becoming the Europcar franchisee for Zambia.

Voyagers® quickly expanded beyond its Ndola base and moved from being a ticketing agency to include incoming tours and holidays. Operating offices now include Chingola, Lusaka, Kitwe, Solwezi and Livingstone.

As Voyagers® has grown it has remained close to its family roots and values. We have an extremely low rate of staff turnover and pride ourselves on the long-term relationships that we have built with clients, suppliers, staff and the communities in which we operate in. Sustainability

Voyagers® has been involved in many sustainability projects that we are extremely proud of. Our tree-planting initiative has been our biggest project. We are in the process of planting trees along our head office road in Ndola, Arusha Street, to make it look like the avenue it used to be many years ago.

Another tree-planting project we are actively involved in is planting trees at our Lusaka office at The Grove, with the help of Trees for Zambia. They came out to identify what trees we already have onsite and then advised on some other indigenous trees that we could plant. We purchased and planted 21 trees so far and will plant more when the rains start. Voyagers® are also going to plant fruit trees to encourage birdlife but also to provide fruit for our team. At the moment we have some avocado trees that our team members have planted from seed. It is important to also note that out offices at The Grove are off grid – they are solar powered and the water is borehole.

Voyagers® is trying to preserve as much of the natural bush as possible and because of that, we obviously have a number of snakes around so we ran a snake awareness course for the staff to help them understand that we do not need to kill snakes, but rather we can relocate them. At all of our offices around Zambia, we ensure that we recycle our plastic and paper waste with reputable and certified recycling facilities. The same goes for recycling our used batteries, as well as the oils we use when services our vehicles. Our water waste management involves treating the water properly before being discharged into our multi-chamber septic tanks. Petrol and oil interceptors are deployed in all areas where spillages might occur to ensure groundwater is not polluted, these areas include wash bays and workshops.

We believe that integrating sustainability into our offices is essential for reducing environmental impact, saving costs, promoting employee well-being, meeting stakeholder expectations, complying with regulations, and fostering innovation and leadership. It is a holistic approach that benefits the planet, people, and Voyagers' long-term success.

What a fantastic trip! It was so well organized and planned, we were able to just relax and enjoy our vacation. It was a one-month journey to Africa, visiting Botswana, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. We always felt taken care of. The safari portion of our trip could not have been more perfect. We were able to see the animals from very near on night drives and bush walks, with very few other jeeps to disturb the environment. The private concessions are an amazing way to truly experience the animals. We also explored Cape Town on a number of fantastic private tours. We watched the southern right whales off the coast of Hermanus, tasted some delicious wines in the Winelands, explored charming small towns, tried local cuisine, hiked Table Mountain, and so much more. Our travel team planned the trip to perfection.

We wanted to let you know how much we appreciated all of the local guides. Our guide in Cape Town was wonderfully knowledgeable, kind, and accommodating. Our guides in Victoria Falls were also wonderful. The private game reserve was the perfect choice, with a warm, welcoming crew, lovely accommodations, and knowledgeable professional guides and trackers. And delicious, abundant food. The hotel at Victoria Falls was also lovely, with very friendly, professional staff. Everyone across the board was helpful, accommodating, and respectful of our mom’s need for a little extra help (with the exception of Lufthansa in Frankfurt). From our first call, they clearly paid very close attention to exactly what we wanted in a honeymoon – a bit of relaxation and a whole lot of adventure. They delivered exactly that. They also worked closely with us as we changed our minds a few times about which part of Africa we wanted to go to, providing multiple trip revisions until it was perfect. On the trip itself, the execution was flawless. From the first airport pick-up to the tours and beautiful accommodations, we wouldn't have changed a single thing. Zicasso matched us with two excellent travel agents who were both professional, responsive, and knowledgeable. We selected this travel company. Our agent, Richelle, worked with us to design an itinerary that transformed our wish list into an incredible African journey. Her prompt responses to our questions or needs were greatly appreciated. We were attempting to see a lot of South Africa and Namibia in only two weeks. Throughout our trip, the accommodations, transfers, guides, restaurants, flights, and activities that Richelle had arranged or suggested were superb. She helped us create a portal for our trip that served as a source of information, pick-up times, e-tickets, and things like our allergies that restaurants knew ahead of time. Additionally, she was there for us as we were traveling in case we had a problem or question. We can't say enough about her professionalism, patience, and genuine concern that our vacation would be everything we hoped for. Our itinerary was ambitious, but Richelle's preparation made it possible. First, we spent three days at Marataba. The accommodations, food, and staff were first-rate. Our guide on the safaris was excellent and the variety of game we saw was impressive. The next part of our trip was in Cape Town. We arrived in a storm that the locals called "the storm of the century". There was extensive damage and some loss of life as well. While the storm certainly curtailed some activities, the following days had brilliant sunshine. We had a great time visiting the V&A Waterfront, a colony of African penguins at Boulders Beach, enjoying the gorgeous coastal scenery along Chapman's Peak Drive, and a too-short visit to the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. Our accommodations at the hotel in Sea Point were excellent for location and the professional staff. After three days in Cape Town, our guide drove us for about an hour to the Cape Winelands. We arranged for two wine tastings in Stellenbosch. The winery was outstanding for the beautiful views and excellent wine. We also saw zebra and impala in the field just in front of the outdoor verandah. We had lunch at a boutique hotel and winery with spectacular views and delicious wine and food. Our accommodations at the hotel in Franschhoek were outstanding. The setting, service, food, and beautiful views were a highlight of our trip. Our room was large and beautifully appointed. An example of their generous hospitality was that all items in the minibar, including a bottle of wine produced at their winery, were gratis. We regretted having to leave after only one night's stay. Our guide then returned us to the airport in Cape Town for our flight to Walvis Bay, Namibia. We were met by our driver at the airport to transfer us to the hotel in Swakopmund. The hotel was on the Atlantic Ocean and a perfect location to explore the town. The staff was top-notch. Warm, friendly, efficient, willing to help you arrange drivers, restaurant reservations, or figuring out how to work the TV remote. After three days in Swakopmund, our excellent guide drove us to the lodge in the private Kulala Wilderness Reserve. Once again, the warm hospitality of the staff here and throughout our travels will stay with us for a long time. The lodge is a gateway to the magnificent dunes of Sossusvlei. Our guide was outstanding. He was an excellent driver over some awful roads and sand, and the depth and breadth of his knowledge were impressive. He cooked us a lovely chicken and salad lunch out in the desert. He drove us to Windhoek for our flight back to Johannesburg and our return home.  There will be many wonderful things to remember about our journey in southern Africa, but Richelle's excellent guidance and the warmth of the African people are what will stay with us the longest.

This was a brilliant trip for seeing so much wildlife, and getting so close to it, particularly the elephants and hippopotami. Whilst we couldn't believe how many elephants we saw, we also saw lesser numbers of lions, crocodiles, water buffalo and a miscellanea of birdlife. Insect life was also plentiful, colourful dragonflies by day and fireflies by night.

I’ve just got back from canoeing the Zambezi Valley- what a trip!! We saw hippos, elephants, crocodile, monkeys, baboons, Impala, Kudu, warthogs and even a porcupine and a leopard!! The tents provided were really good- tall enough to stand up in, with mesh panels so you could look out if you wished. The stars at night were beautiful so I’d really recommend that. The canoeing was at a steady pace and suitable for all abilities- the hardest part was often getting in and out of the boat!! If you haven’t camped or kayaked before, don’t be put off, the pace was just right and the support from the leader and assistant leader was great. We also had a couple of game walks and a night game drive. The food was simple, but tasty and there was plenty of it.

We had a wonderful time on the 9 day Okawanda. Delta tour which was locally organized by Lochinivar tours. We had a wonderful and experience tour operator named Mark Hampande who took care of us until the tour ended. He is very knowledgeable in every aspect of the this tour and had a wonderful team under him. We were fortunate to have drivers and tour guides who were experienced in what ever they were assigned to do. The draw backs were, one incident a driver turned up over an hour late and we were deprived of seeing many animals as we planned on going early morning. Should have more vegetarian options and also there was no seafood available although it was in the menu. The Safari Tour was good value for money compared to other companies but we found a considerable number of improvements that could be implemented: - the 10 day Safari we BOOKED and PAID for was altered to a 9 day by Lochinvar Safaris - notification of the change was not given until a few days after we had paid the full amount (and flights booked). There was approximately A$200 pp price difference between the tours which was not refunded. - Zimbabwe was completely taken out of the itinerary - the bush camp at Moremi was taken out of the itinerary which denied us of the opportunity to experience the bush in the evening - Gazetted accomodation at Wild View Resort, Chobe x2 was changed to a hotel in town overlooking a shopping centre car park! - We were informed the hotel had been booked by the Government for a conference and we had been 'bumped out' - After our refusal at taking the carpark hotel and a strong request to be taken to Wild View Resort only to find it almost empty! - After a convoluted story by Mark we ended up paying for the Hotel on my credit card. The funds were eventually extracted from Mark before the end of the tour - Problems with Mark's motor vehicle at the Botswana/Zambian border necessitated him borrowing US$100 from another member of the group and a one and a half hour delay (OK it's Africa, but!) On a very positive note the support staff and contractors made every effort to make our journey as comfortable as possible and can be complimented on their success. Loved everything about this tour, would do it again.

My first time in Africa. I liked the look of the trip but had not especially researched each area and country beforehand. So many unforgettable moments - from getting close to the big animals in places like Chobe, to the sheer expanse of the desert landscapes in Namibia, to the wonderful Canyon Roadhouse in Namib, and the fun with pelicans while ostensibly dolphin watching nr Wallvis Bay. And then some - the beautiful surroundings of Cape Town and 'sweetest' accommodation. The guides got us through some very testing moments - from bus failure nr Rundu, followed by a dash to Etosha, and other serious incidents, in addition to driving us over immense distance >5Kkm, over untarmacced roads, and providing varied meals, mostly after a long days drive and setting up camp.
