ABOUT GREEN DAY

Formed in 1986 in Berkeley, CA, Green Day is one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time, with more than 75 million records sold worldwide and 10 billion cumulative audio/visual streams. The five-time Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees released their breakout album Dookie in 1994 , which sold over 10 million and achieved 10x Platinum Diamond status, is widely credited with popularizing and reviving mainstream interest in punk rock, catapulting a career-long run of #1 hit singles. Entertainment Weekly calls Green Day, “The most influential band of their generation,” while Rolling Stone attests, “Green Day have inspired more young bands to start than any act this side of Kiss, and that doesn’t seem to be changing.” In 2004, Green Day released the rock opera American Idiot which captured the nation’s attention, selling more than 8 million copies in the U.S. alone and taking home the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. Mojo declared “It’s exhilarating stuff, the kind of record that sets new parameters as to what is possible from a punk rock’n’roll band in the 21st century.” In 2010, a stage adaptation of American Idiot debuted on Broadway to critical and commercial acclaim.  Released in 2020, Green Day’s thirteenth studio album Father Of All… debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Album Sales Chart and #1 in both the U.K. and Australia. Pitchfork declared, “Green Day’s most fetching and youthful songs in ages. The trio sounds reinvigorated, more like hungry newcomers staking their claim.” In July 2021, Green Day embarked on The Hella Mega Tour (w/ Fall Out Boy & Weezer). The global tour included 29 sold-out stadium gigs – including renowned venues like London Stadium and Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium.  On October 24, the band announced the release  of their highly anticipated 14th studio album, Saviors, coming January 19, ‘24 and released their brand new single, “The American Dream Is Killing Me.”

Green Day Hint At Plans To Tour Australia In 2025

Fantastic news for Green Day fans out there — the rockers have hinted that they’re planning to head Down Under in 2025.

Appearing on Sunrise on Monday (Nov. 12) ahead of the release of their new album Saviors next month, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool dropped the major news that the trio are hoping to head to Australia.

“We haven’t been to Australia in years,” Billie Joe said. “We definitely want to come back — maybe 2025.

The exciting news comes following the release of Dilemma , with Armstrong explaining that the track resonated with him deeply due to his previous struggles with addiction.

“I was sober now I’m drunk again / I’m in trouble and in love again / I don’t want to be a dead man walking / I don’t want to be a dead man walking,” he sings on the track, which was inspired by the singer’s addiction issues.

“I’ve struggled with addiction ever since I was a teenager, and I got sober for like five years … I started drinking again and it really started taking a physical and mental toll on me where I just felt like I couldn’t stop, I was a glutton, it became an obsession,” Armstrong said of the personal track (as per Daily Telegraph ).

“It started affecting the people around me that I love the most. And so that’s what I wrote about. And I haven’t had a drink in like 16 months.”

Earlier this year, Green Day celebrated 30 years of their seminal third album, Dookie , with a massive anniversary reissue that included limited edition vinyl and CD box sets.

“Sometimes you take a gamble and luck’s on your side. Back in the summer of ‘93 Green Day went into the studio to record Dookie and had no idea what their destiny would be,” the band wrote on Instagram upon announcing the Dookie reissue in August.

“They were young, rebellious, and absolutely scared shitless. There was no telling if they were about to prove everyone wrong or make the biggest mistake of their lives.

“This year Dookie turns 30, and they’ve cracked open the vaults putting together an epic 30th Anniversary Super Deluxe version of the album that will be available as a 6-LP vinyl, 4-CD box set and up everywhere digitally.”

Dilemma is out now and Saviors is released on January 19.

Green Day On Sunrise

American rockers Green Day appeared on Sunrise on Monday, ahead of the release of their new album Saviors next month — and teased a possible tour down under.

The band, best known for iconic hits such as American Idiot and Good Riddance, offered an insight into the political concerns underlying their new music early in the chat.

WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: Rock legends Green Day talk about their new album.

In an interview with US correspondent Mylee Hogan, the band spoke about the decline of the American working class, while discussing the concept of the “American dream” on the breakfast show.

“I don’t think it (the “American dream”) looks anything like what our parents or their parents saw,” bass guitarist, Mike Dirnt, said.

“That’s the big question or conundrum. I think it’s the unknown that is the scary part. What our kids will have to deal with and possibly their kids too,” he added.

Singer Billie Joe Armstrong went on to say social mobility for Americans was increasingly problematic.

“This level of moving up in society and being able to afford a home. I think that part of the American dream doesn’t exist anymore,” Billie Joe said.

“I think a lot of people have become desperate and that turns to anger, and depression, and mental health.”

Green Day fans will remember singer Billie Joe Armstrong (pictured) the band at the peak of their fame, when they made iconic hits Good Riddance and American Idiot.

The band has famously sold more than 75 million albums worldwide. They have also won five Grammy Awards.

Ending the chat, the band turned their attention to their new album, Saviors, out next month.

Singer Billie Joe said the band intended to come to Australia in 2025.

“We haven’t been to Australia in years,” Billie Joe said.

“We definitely want to come back — maybe 2025.

Green Day Tease New Australian Tour Plans

By Emmy Mack

It seems Green Day have been missing Australia, and they’re hoping to get back down here as soon as possible.

Speaking during an interview on Aussie morning TV talk show, Sunrise , the trio of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool revealed that they’re hoping to return down under in 2025, off the back of their forthcoming new album, Saviors .

Green Day – ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’

“We haven’t been to Australia in years,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told the tele show. “We definitely want to come back — maybe 2025.

“Every time we go to Australia it’s hard to leave.”

Green Day last visited our shores in 2017 for their  Revolution Radio  tour , during which they were also spotted recording at a local studio in Perth.

They were supposed to return in 2020 alongside Weezer and  Fall Out Boy  for the ill-fated Hella Mega Tour , which sadly went on to be cancelled due to covid. Weezer and Fall Out Boy have both since paid Aussie fans a visit on separate tours this year, but we’ve yet to see the same from Green Day.

The trio’s new album,  Saviors , is due out on Friday, 19th January 2024. It’s their first record since 2020’s  Father of All Motherfuckers , a spottily-reviewed record, but one that was warmly embraced by the fans who have had  Dookie  ringing in their ears since it came out back in 1994.

Saviors  is being pitched as something of a return to the halcyon days of Green Day. Co-producer  Rob Cavallo  previously worked on both  Dookie  and 2004’s  American Idiot , widely regarded as the two best records in the band’s discography.

We’ll bring you more news on Green Day’s brewing Australian tour plans as soon as we hear it…

‘it’s hard to leave’: green day announce tentative australian tour plans.

Green Day tour

Green Day has announced they want to tour Australia in 2025, after a lengthy pandemic-enforced absence.

“We haven’t been to Australia in years,” Billie Joe told Sunrise, promoting their recent single Dilemma. “We definitely want to come back — maybe 2025. Every time we go to Australia it’s hard to leave.”

Green Day had planned a joint tour with Weezer and Fall Out Boy in November 2020 before the pandemic forced its cancellation.

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews  here .

“With a set that lasted over two hours, featuring tracks from all eras of the band and all fan favourites, Green Day’s chemistry with each other and the crowd was like little I’ve ever seen,” Joe Hansen wrote of their last Melbourne show.

“While the band had the massive backdrops and pyrotechnics an act of their calibre can indulge in, there was a refreshing looseness to the performance, with the organic and natural sound of a good rock band coming through clear as day.

“While countless bands playing stages that size rely on backing tracks and precisely programmed light shows, the band could have easily put on the same show at a venue a fraction of the size. It’s rare that this reviewer ventures to giant arena shows like this, and I was admittedly skeptical of an “uncool” band like Green Day delivering such an impressive show, but damn it they were great.”

Green Day’s new album, Saviors, will be released on January 9.

My first Green Day experiences date back to high school, I was 15-16 and it was like ‘93-‘94 before Dookie even came to be. I would see this punk band from the Bay Area perform in some local pizza place in Bakersfield, California called Jerry’s Pizza. From then on I was in love. Like IN LOVE! I loved the bands music! Their sound was something that just got me and to this day Who Wrote Holden Caulfield? is my most favorite Green Day song still. I take a lot of pride in saying I was part of the small percentage of people who loved their music before the entire world knew who they were. They are badass, Hands down! AND I’m thankful BJ had a sweet wife and family to help him when he needed it most and that he is still breathing and that he is here to give us more music with his fellow brothers of the band.

This was my first concert in the Pit, and it was the best night of my life. I got really hyped when I saw how close I was to the stage, and I met some pretty cool people there. When Green Day came out, I actually started crying. I was standing only a couple feet away from the band at points, and I know it was a night I'm never going to forget. I think what made Green Day different that most concerts was how they called so many people on stage and gave away so much stuff. Some people got to go on stage and sing lyrics, or play guitar, and actually got to meet the band members and I honestly thought it was so amazing because they made someone else have the best night of their life. This concert was hands down 10/10, in fact, it broke the scale.

It's been 9 years since Green Day made an appearance in Northern Ireland.

Boy did they make up for it

Rancid, Green Day's tour buddies. Started the show off with high adrenaline. So much so that a mosh pit itself began to form at the front of the stage. I was slap bang in the middle of it.

This high adrenaline show meant that when Green Day started the crowd was already pumped and ready. And they delivered on the he action packed, high octane poreformance everyone wanted. I would easily call this the best night of my life without question. It was a phemomonal performance from both Green Day and Rancid and I wold seriously recommended that,if they're coming to somewhere near you. You get tickets ASAP.

Hannah Green Has Herself a Moving Day at the Mizuho Americas Open

How to watch the 2024 u.s. women’s open presented by ally.

Hannah Green

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Australian Hannah Green played lights out on Moving Day at the Mizuho Americas Open, carding a bogey-free, 9-under 63 at Liberty National Golf Club to vault from T31 into solo second with 18 holes to play in Jersey City, N.J.

Green kicked off the week with a pair of ho-hum 71s, rounds that collectively saw her make one double bogey, three bogeys and seven birdies on Thursday and Friday in the Garden State. Determined to improve upon those so-so scores on Moving Day, the 27-year-old came out swinging in the third round, blitzing Liberty National with a mistake-free barrage of birdies in cloudy, quiet conditions.

She parred her first two holes of the day before grabbing a birdie on the par-4 3rd hole to move to 3-under, picking up a pair of back-to-back birdies on holes six and seven to get to 5-under overall. The five-time LPGA Tour winner then put her head down and charged forward as she made the turn, putting on an absolute clinic on the back nine at Liberty National.

Green made another set of back-to-back birdies on the par-5 10th and par-3 11th holes, now sitting at 7-under with seven holes to play. She struck again with a birdie on the par-5 13th hole and then rattled off three consecutive birdies on holes 15, 16 and 17 before parring 18 to post a 9-under 63 that broke the 18-hole tournament scoring record at the Mizuho Americas Open.

“It did feel like autopilot for a little bit there, which is very nice. Now I put myself hopefully in contention for Sunday,” said Green. “I feel like I've been able to glue things together. Last week, I couldn't keep up with the girls. On the greens is where I lost a lot of shots. Today, I hit it close enough to be able to hole putts, which was nice. I didn't actually hole anything longer than 15 feet, so hitting it very well, so that was very nice.”

The Aussie has been playing some strong golf in 2024, earning two victories at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore and then successfully defending a title for the first time in her career a few weeks ago at the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro at Wilshire Country Club. Excluding her two victories, she has finished inside the top 25 two other times, doing so at the Ford Championship presented by KCC (T21) and at last week’s Cognizant Founders Cup (T18) at Upper Montclair Country Club.

While Nelly Korda’s five straight LPGA Tour victories have slightly eclipsed Green’s success so far this season, she’ll now have a chance on Sunday to capture her third title of the year, putting her within striking distance of the American’s 2024 win total. It’s a spot she’s incredibly pleased to be in after making just eight starts this year on Tour, and Green will look to hang onto Saturday’s momentum for as long as possible with more major championship golf coming up quickly.

“I think Grant Boone said something last week like I'm the next person in line behind Nelly Korda,” said Green. “I was like, ‘Yes.’ Because right now, Nelly is very much out of reach of getting world No. 1. I still want to get into the top five in the world now that I got into the top 10. I want to keep pushing, not get too ahead of myself. It's nice to be able to be in form. We've got a really good stretch of events coming up, and I hope I can be more in contention for the majors coming up.

“The bad rounds have been better this year because you're always going to have those rounds. And making sure that you don't make silly mistakes. That's probably been the difference this year.”

This week’s Mizuho Americas Open is Green’s first time competing at Liberty National Golf Club, and if her Saturday 63 is any indication, the 27-year-old has now figured out how to have success at this venue, lessons she’ll apply to the final round in Jersey City, N.J., as she works to collect another 2024 title.

But Green isn’t too stressed about once again being in contention on the final day of a tournament, having something else on her mind to think about.

Her husband, Jarryd Felton, to whom Green got married on January 19 of this year, will arrive next week to spend some time with his bride traveling around the United States, something that Green has been looking forward to recently, having not seen her husband for a couple of months while competing on the LPGA Tour. The old adage says that happiness off the golf course often brings success on it, something it seems that Green is a case in point for in 2024.

“Because I've had so many great things happen outside of golf, it has reflected on the play this year,” said Green. “My husband is coming out next week, so he'll be out for the next five weeks. That has been really nice to look forward to. I haven't seen him since before Palos Verdes. When things are going well, usually things in your life are going well, and vice versa. At the moment, I'm in a very good spot, both on and off the course.”

Green will be working to stay in that good spot as she battles it out in the final round at Liberty National, trying to recreate the magic she conjured up on Moving Day as she fights for her sixth career Tour title. And while it will take something special to track down an unflappable Korda, who leads by two at 13-under, the Australian is more than ready to tackle the challenge on Sunday at the Mizuho Americas Open.

“I actually have no idea what the weather is like tomorrow,” said Green. “This morning, because I teed off early, I really had no wind to contend with. Obviously, a later tee time might be a little bit different. Might not be able to have nine birdies. I’m sure there will be a lot of low scores coming in (today) so see where I sit myself. Hope I'm not too far back and (I will) just keep doing what I did today.”

Aussies on Tour: Heartbreak at Senior PGA

green day australian tours

A Richard Bland buzzsaw and frustrating weather delay has conspired to deny Australians Richard Green and Greg Chalmers victory at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship in Michigan.

The 54-hole co-leader alongside Ernie Els at Harbor Shores, Chalmers went toe-to-toe with Bland until the Englishman’s eagle on 15 and a suspension of play shortly afterward robbed the West Australian of any positive momentum.

Play was suspended for a total of 74 minutes and, when it resumed, Chalmers made his first bogey of the day on 16, going straight underneath his ball with his chip shot after missing the green with his approach.

He fell out of contention with two more bogeys at 17 and 18 as Bland shot 8-under 63 for a 17-under total to win by three from Green (65) with Chalmers (68) falling to third.

Playing in his first senior tournament, Bland began the day one back of the lead yet two holes in had moved past both Els and Chalmers to assume the front-running position.

When he made bogey on three and Chalmers recorded his first birdie of the day, the lead once again changed hands, a trend that would continue throughout the day.

Four birdies in the space of six holes saw American Chris DiMarco join Chalmers and Bland at 12-under before falling one back when Chalmers and Bland both made birdies at the par-4 eighth.

Bland took full advantage of back-to-back par-5s at nine and 10 to lead by two, Chalmers responding with consecutive birdies of his own at 11 and 12 to stay within one.

Bland’s bogey at the par-3 13th and Chalmers’ birdie from 18 feet on 14 saw the West Australian once again take the outright lead only for Bland to come in over the top with an eagle from six feet at the par-5 15th.

Play was suspended 10 minutes later due to dangerous weather in the area and when it resumed the two-time Australian Open dropped shots at both 16 and 17, handing Bland a three-shot buffer heading to the 72nd hole.

“Even though I didn’t finish as strongly as I would like, I have to take solace in the fact that I was 3-over at the start of the tournament on Thursday and here I am, finished third outright,” said Chalmers, who earned $US238,000 for his week’s work.

“It’s a great week in any first major, first real taste of being in the last group and seeing some things about what it takes and what I need to work on and improve.

“I take a lot of positives about it. I’m hopeful I can get another opportunity down the line.

“Ironically, I’m in the US Open and the British Open coming up, so hoping I’ll get some chances to get in this position again.”

Green’s surge came late on Sunday with eagles at both 12 and 15, taking his tally for the week to five.

He holed an 8-iron from 139 yards at the par-4 12th and then converted his chance from eight feet at the par-5 15th to reach 14-under.

A three-time winner on the Legends Tour in Europe, Green believes he is closing in on a maiden win in the US.

“Just think it adds to your confidence and belief that you can hang in there under pressure, you can take it all the way to the end,” said Green, who earned $US378,000 for second.

“That’s all you can really take out of it. I work so hard on my game in the background and it’s up to me to be mentally strong in those situations.”

In a week that began with 14 Aussies in the field, five finished inside the top 20.

Queenslander Scott Hend (66) also made eagle on 15 on his way to a tie for fourth while Stuart Appleby shot 67 in the final round to climb into a tie for 14th.

Michael Wright (68) enjoyed his best finish on the PGA TOUR Champions with a tie for 17th as Cameron Percy finished tied 21st in his seniors debut. It was a near miss too for Rhein Gibson on the Korn Ferry Tour.

The New South Welshman eagled his final hole of the Visit Knoxville Open for a closing round of 4-under 66, one shy of the playoff won by Harry Higgs at the second extra hole.
