“ I recently did a trip to Leh Ladakh with JustWravel team, and boy, was it an experience for a lifetime! The trip leaders - Geetanjali, Ashish, Shashank - took such good care of the travellers. The team's thoughtfulness and local experience really shone through in the way the itinerary was planned. Plenty of photo opportunities, and daily briefings to prepare us for the unfamiliar climate and terrains of Ladakh. We had sufficient time for rest & recuperation and the accommodations provided were the best-possible, given the environmental conditions in that particular region. Really glad I did this trip solo and chose to go ahead with JustWravel's expertise. All we had to do was show up and the team ensured that we would have a great time - exploring the destinations and clicking away pictures of the beautiful mountains, valleys & lakes. Special shoutout to Geetanjali who really helped keep the spirits high and thanks to her, a group of strangers just felt like long-lost friends. Truly a memorable trip! ”

“ Just when I wanted a break, not actually a break rather an experience, JustWravel popped up in my Google Search, that too with options like backpacking grps, all girls with pick up and drop location at Delhi, so I booked the All Girls Spiti Valley Trip (01/07/2023) with JustWravel. Our entire trip went very smooth until the last day in Manali (09/07/2023) when Himachal was hit by the Natural Calamity. By God's grace our entire group was very much safe in Manali. The agency handled our extended stays (3days) in Manali hotel, including meals, travel and everything. Our trip leader Mehek Mahajan kept us always updated and was always there to support us in every way plausible. She even suggested to book tickets from Chandigarh as Delhi was flooded too, most of us did that and reached home safely. Inspite all these, the journey to Spiti Valley was indelible. And one thing is for sure, next time if I get to travel I'll again choose JustWravel. ”

His warm and friendly personality created a positive and inclusive atmosphere among the group. His extensive knowledge and love for the local culture added a special touch to our journey. He was always available to answer questions, address concerns, and provide valuable insights about the destinations we visited. Thank you, Omer for making this an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend anyone to travel under his guidance looking for a memorable and expertly organized travel experience. ”

If you’re a snow fanatic or a Bollywood enthusiast, then you must have wondered what it feels like to soar through a thick blanket of snow as you feel the crisp winter breeze tickling your face. Of course, growing up, most of us believed that one needs to cross the seven seas to be able to have exciting adventures in snow-covered mountains especially if it was something as fanciful as skiing but we are here to tell you that you don’t have to go to Switzerland or Norway to experience the thrill that one feels when gliding on snow.

Auli, a small town in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, with its picturesque view of some of the highest peaks of the great Himalayas, and snow-laden canted slopes has gained recognition as one of the most popular winter destinations in India.

A gateway to various other popular attractions like Valley of Flowers National Park, Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara, and trekking destinations like Gorson Bugyal, and Pangerchulla summit provides ample opportunities for you to have a lot of fun. If you have been wondering where you can go skiing in India , then Auli is the right answer for you especially if you are someone who can’t afford to go on long trips because this Auli weekend trip is only 3 days long making it one of the best weekend trips in Uttarakhand.

Elevated at an altitude of 2,800 meters, Auli is surrounded by a large expanse of capacious forests that entrance nature lovers with their majestic oak trees, which are beautifully covered in an ivory blanket of snow in winter.

Apart from that, the highest artificial lake in the world, like an ever-glistening turquoise gem in a forest of jade green, is also nestled in Auli adding more to its never-ending list of charms.

This Himalayan Ski resort also has India’s highest and longest cable car link stretching to a distance of 4 Kilometers, connecting it to the town of Joshimath which is a getaway to holy sites like the Shankaracharya Math, Narsingh temple, Kalpeshwar Mandir, etc.

If you are thinking of going to Auli solely for skiing and to immerse yourself in a magical world made up of a tapestry of snow and cobalt blue skies, then the best time to visit Auli is from December to March. But if you are someone who prefers the warmth of spring over the cold breeze and takes pride in being an avid lover of nature, then the best time to visit Auli for you would be from June to August as you get to see more than 500 species of flowers blooming and stretching like a carpet stitched from the colors of rainbow over the meadows.

Overall, Auli is definitely one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places that you must visit in Uttarakhand as it has something to offer everyone.

Usually, we take a maximum of 10-15 people in one group. We believe bigger groups have less fun and less coordination so that’s why we prefer smaller groups.

All our treks are led by professional trek leaders who are certified, mountaineers. Apart from them, there will be one local guide, cook, helper, porters and other staff.

All our trips are led by professional trip coordinators who have a good experience in leading groups.

Yes definitely it is, the safety of girls is most important for us. All our guides and other staff are carefully chosen for trips/treks. They are honest and reliable but we also advise you to take care of your personal belongings.

“ I went solo with a group of random ppl to Auli last weekend with WanderOn. I must say that i will never forget about the time i had. It was very well managed by our trip captains (Ayush Anand and Shubham badoni). They were friendly and quite spontaneous with their thoughts. Thanks Wander On for this lovely trip. I will choose you again.😊😊

“ I went to Auli with WanderOn and it was a great trip. Besides the truly beautiful scenery, the great part was the people and how the Trip Captains (Areeb, Manas, Jahannoor and Akshay)did an amazing job to bring everyone together. The trip Captains were friendly, approachable and organised. They made all the details and travel arrangements clear for everyone and most of all, they were very good at bringing people together through games, which really helped everyone bond quickly and make the trip much more enjoyable through the long journey time. The trip was well organised, super fun and full of great experiences. I would love to travel with WanderOn again!

SWEETY JAIN

“ I went to Auli with Wanderon. This was my second trip. In general Wanderon is economic and pocket friendly. The hotels were clean and comfy and the ride to the Joshimath was good, but what stands out on this trip is the experience and our expereinced team captains. Akshay, Areeb, Manas and Noor, the quad was amazing when you are in the journey with playing games and setting the tempo or leaving on time. There was this perfect balance of fun, enjoyment and yet we arrive Delhi on time. Considering I travel alone in the group( sounds like an oxymoron but it’s not), I never had an iota of safety concern. Wanderon is my first choice now when I am planning my vacation, all I need is to take leaves and decide the destination. 😊

auli uttarakhand

Day 1: The trip begins: Delhi to Haridwar – 230kms covered in 5-6 hours

The journey to Auli begins from Delhi and ends for the night at Haridwar. The drive to Haridwar covers around 230kms and takes near about 5-6 hours. Considered one of the holiest places, Hindu devotees from all over India flock the Ghats of the Ganges running through Haridwar. Chosen as the venue for Magh Mela and the world-renowned Kumbh Mela, Haridwar is the town if you are in search of spiritual awakening. In the evening, find your way to Har-ki-Pauri - the largest sacred bathing ghat of Haridwar. The spectacular and memorable Ganga Aarti you witness there is a sight that will stay with you for life. You rest here for the night.

Day 2: Haridwar to Joshimath – 270kms covered in 9 hours

Once you are done with your breakfast, we resume our journey and get back on the road. The destination for the night is Joshimath with a halt at the famous Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Karnprayag. The road distance between Haridwar and Joshimath is 270km and takes up to 9 hours. Once you have reached your destination for the night, if time and energy permit, you may explore the surroundings. Joshimath is largely popular among Sikhs and Hindus owing to the presence of a gateway that connects HemKund and Badrinath. The location is most busy between May-October. You stay here for the night.

Day 3: Joshimath to Auli - 16 km covered via cable car or a 2 hours’ drive

On the third day of your trip, you make yours to the much coveted destination of Auli. By road, it is 16 km and will take approximately 2 hours to reach the location. If you, however, choose to plan your trip around the winter season, the road will however not be operational. You will have to opt for the 3.9 km cable car ride. It happens to be the longest cable car ride in Asia and is a must-try. The ride is, of course, available during the summer as well. It comes as no surprise that most choose to opt for the cable car ride. The ride provides magnificent views of the Himalayan mountain range. If you are taking the cable car it will take 35 minutes to reach Auli. Once you have reached, you can begin exploring. If you want to go skiing on the slopes, you may acquire help from the resort’s instructors and begin your exciting expedition. The ski slopes offer a panoramic view of high Himalayan peaks including Nanda Devi, 7818 m. Skiing the track that connects and upper and lower snow slopes of Auli is bound to make for one hell of an experience.

Day 4: The trek to Gurso Bugyal

Your next day in Auli is the day you have been waiting for, your trek to Gurso Bugyal . An offbeat location near Auli, the Gurso Bugyal makes for a short but adventurous trek. The 3km trail leads to the picturesque and mysterious location of Gurso Bugyal. The trail serpentines through valleys and between the imposing mountains of Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Dron Parvat. The vivid and panoramic views of these striking mountains while walking along nature trails listening to its faint music makes for a mesmerizing affair. The view is enthralling, staggering even. Also, within the vicinity lies Chattrakhund, a pristine, sky coloured lake of crystal blue water. It also makes for an ideal picnic spot in the gorgeous meadow, right in the comforts of Mother Nature. Rising at a level of 3056m above sea level, during the spring season, Gurso Bugyal is dressed up in lush greenery as far as your eyes can see. Another important attraction you must visit is the Auli Artificial Lake which is one of the highest man-made lakes in the world. The lake was specially developed by the government of India to produce artificial snow perennially. And it is a thing of astounding beauty! No pictures can never do it justice. After a day in what can be called nothing but paradise, you climb down and spend the night in Auli.

Day 5: Auli to Rishikesh – 254kms covered in 7-8hours

After 2 mesmerizing days in Auli, you hit the road to make your way down. But the adventure is far from over. On the way to your destination for the night, Rishikesh, you cross many popular religious sites such as The Narsingh Temple and Shankaracharya Math which you may visit. Travelling by road for 254kms 7-8 hours, you find your way to Rishikesh - the yoga capital of the World. Rishikesh is home to several Ashrams and is a different world in itself. It thrives on yoga & meditation centers. Its rise to fame was sealed from the moment the legendary band Beatles visited the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Ashram of Rishikesh. The place is also popular for two bridges known by Laxman and Ram Jhula. Could you think of a better way to end the trip?

After breakfast on the 6th and final day of the tour, sightsee your way through Rishikesh. You may also take upon the opportunity of river rafting. Thereafter, we begin our 230km journey back to Delhi. Our great expedition concludes in the metropolitan city.

Auli is a hill station located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand state in India. It has rightly derived its name Auli - meaning meadows, from the characteristics of its topography. The hill station is located on slopes and has far-stretching meadows that look stunning to the eyes. Auli is fondly referred to as a place where nature comes alive in all its glory and splendor. It is rich in natural resources and offers a stunning landscape of the surrounding hills.

The hill station has a plethora of wildflowers and trees like deodars, oaks, coniferous and pine forests. The slopes here which are as high as 9000 feet above sea level offer stunning views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks; like that of Nanda Devi, Kamet, Dunagiri, and Mana Parvat. There are a number of attractions here at the hill station. The most famous one amongst tourists is the ropeway.

Auli tour packages offer a unique experience to explore the highest and longest ropeway not only in India but across Asia, providing breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks. Auli’s artificial lake, one of the world’s highest man-made lakes, adds to its allure. Additionally, Chattrakund and Chenab lakes are two other captivating destinations to visit in Auli. Known as the skiing capital of India, Auli ensures an unforgettable skiing experience amidst its pristine beauty.

The winter months offer this thrilling experience and invite enthusiasts from across the globe. Other activities in Auli include trekking to nearby hills like Guarso and Kwani Bugyal. ‘Moana 2″ trailer released; teases return of original characters, bigger role for pig

The movie was to be a limited series on Disney+.

Moana, the young princess of Motunui in Disney’s “Moana,” is headed back into theaters in a sequel, and fans can get a glimpse of the new movie.

Disney on Wednesday released a trailer for the movie, “Moana 2,” set to be in theaters on November 27, 2024.

Auli’i Cravalho returns as the voice of Moana, and Dwayne Johnson is back voicing the demigod Maui.

While not much detail of the plot is revealed in the trailer, it seems Moana has heard another call from her ancestors to set out for an adventure on the sea, according to the trailer.

On the trip, Moana takes bumbling sidekick Hei Hei the rooster, and this time adds her pig, Pua, as a travel mate.

In the teaser, Johnson’s Maui lands on Moana’s boat — and, in a reference to some fans’ complaints that Pua didn’t have much of a role in the first movie — asks, “Why didn’t you bring the pig last time?”

Earlier this year Disney released information that a “Moana” sequel was in the works and that it was originally set to be a Disney+ original streaming series. However, the project was reworked into a feature film, according to USA Today.

“We were impressed with what we saw, and we knew it deserved a theatrical release,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said during a February earnings call.

The studio described the film – set three years after the original movie – as an “expansive new voyage” that will feature Moana, Maui, Hei Hei and a “brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers.”

While the main characters are returning, Lin Manuel-Miranda, who composed much of the music for the first film, did not come back to work on the sequel.

Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’i did return as composers. Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear replaced Miranda in the composing group.

The song “How Far I’ll Go,” written by Miranda, was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and the Academy Award for Best Original Song .

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow: The Best of Moscow!

I just got back from one week in Moscow. And, as you might have already guessed, it was a mind-boggling experience. It was not my first trip to the Russian capital. But I hardly ever got enough time to explore this sprawling city. Visiting places for business rarely leaves enough time for sightseeing. I think that if you’ve got one week in Russia, you can also consider splitting your time between its largest cities (i.e. Saint Petersburg ) to get the most out of your trip. Seven days will let you see the majority of the main sights and go beyond just scratching the surface. In this post, I’m going to share with you my idea of the perfect travel itinerary for one week in Moscow.

Moscow is perhaps both the business and cultural hub of Russia. There is a lot more to see here than just the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

7-day Moscow itinerary

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

Read Next: Things To Do on Socotra

To continue this Moscow itinerary, next you may want to go inside the Kremlin walls. This is the center of Russian political power and the president’s official residence. If you’re planning to pay Kremlin a visit do your best to visit Ivan the Great Bell Tower as well. Go there as early as possible to avoid crowds and get an incredible bird’s-eye view. There are a couple of museums that are available during designated visiting hours. Make sure to book your ticket online and avoid lines.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

travel itinerary for one week in Moscow

How to Get a Decent Haircut in a Foreign Country

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

exploring Moscow

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Moscow sights

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

top things to do in Moscow

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

one week Moscow itinerary

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. The estate museum showcases Russian nature at its finest year-round.

12 Stunning National Parks and Regional Parks In France

If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

Moscow itinerary

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

things to do in Moscow in seven days

You Will Also Like: 3-Day London Itinerary

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!

I know very little about Moscow or Russia for the\at matter. I do know I would have to see the Red Square and all of its exquisite architectural masterpieces. Also the CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE SAVIOUR. Thanks for shedding some light on visiting Moscow.

Thanks for swinging by! The Red Square is a great starting point, but there way too many places and things to discover aside from it!

These 9 underrated destinations within 2 hours of Columbia are good for day, weekend trips

auli weekend trip

When thinking about summer vacation, your mind might instinctively conjure up sandy, salty beaches or snow-capped mountain tops, as these destinations are out of reach in the Midwest. However, if you're looking to save a bit of money this summer or are just interested in exploring more of what makes the middle of the country so special, you don't have to travel far for an escape.

WorldAtlas, an online geography and travel resource, often posts lists of underrated and picturesque destinations in Missouri and its regions, such as the Ozarks . The Tribune reviewed the various lists and has compiled places to visit for a day trip or over a weekend.

While WorldAtlas already notes Columbia is one if its six most underrated towns in Missouri , all referenced destinations are outside of the city, though some are close by. WorldAtlas considers Columbia a hidden gem for recreation lovers due to Rock Bridge Memorial State Park as well as cave structures in the park like Devil's Icebox.

Rocheport, Boonville and Arrow Rock

Distances from Columbia: 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, respectively

WorldAtlas notes Rocheport as one of seven most underrated towns to visit in 2024 and among the seven most picturesque towns in Missouri . It continues to be a hub for those biking on the Katy 240-mile Katy Trail, including along the Missouri River. The downtown historic district is great for viewing 1830s era homes and for those wanting to "delve deeper into nature" there is the Diana Bend Conservation Area nearby.

Boonville is considered one of Missouri's six most underrated towns, among the six most overlooked towns and seven most picturesque Missouri towns by WorldAtlas. The town has many historic claims to fame dating back to the U.S. Civil War that history buffs can dig into. There also is the vibrant downtown area, several parks, blufftop views of the Missouri River and the Isle of Capri Casino for those seeking a gambling flutter.

Arrow Rock, according to WorldAtlas, is among Missouri's most picturesque towns. Its connections to history, including the explorations of Lewis and Clark, make Arrow Rock a good day trip destination.

"The compact downtown is ideal for walking tours and contains several cute shops, restaurants, and bed and breakfasts, as well as museums focused on Black history, the printing business and more," WorldAtlas notes.

There also is Arrow Rock Lyceum Theater, which opens its 2024 season June 7 with "42nd Street." Other shows in 2024 are "Jimmy Buffet's Escape to Margaritaville, "Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," Noises Off, "Ken Ludwig's Moriarty: A New Sherlock Holmes Adventure," "Million Dollar Quartet" and the 10th anniversary presentation of "Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol."

Distance from Columbia: roughly 50 minutes.

Considered among Missouri's seven most underrated towns to visit in 2024 by WorldAtlas, Westphalia is a small Osage County town influenced by its early German settlers. The community has a European feel with both English and German street signs, per WorldAtlas. The town is good for both history buffs and outdoor enthusiasts thanks to its local museum and the Painted Rock Conservation Area adjacent to the Osage River.

Distance from Columbia: roughly 90 minutes

When people visit the Lake of the Ozarks, they may overlook Camdenton, at least according to WorldAtlas. Camdenton still is adjacent to the lake and has plenty of activities available, such as the Adrenaline Zipline, the nearby Ha Ha Tonka State Park and the outdoor Ozark Amphitheater among other attractions, festivals and more.

St. Charles

Distance from Columbia: roughly 90 minutes.

Once the state capitol before Jefferson City was selected, WorldAtlas considers St. Charles an underrated city . Claims to fame include the Lewis and Clark Boat House and Nature Center and the downtown Main Street can supply all your shopping and souvenir needs. Supernatural enthusiasts can take in a ghost tour including sights like the 1800s Lost Graveyard, WorldAtlas notes.

Distance from Columbia: approximately 1 hour 45 minutes.

There probably is not anyone in Missouri who does not know that Mark Twain, also known as Samuel Clemens, hailed from Hannibal, which WorldAtlas says is one of the state's underrated towns to visit in 2024. You can learn Twain's history at the Boyhood Home and Museum Properties, hop on a riverboat cruise, take part in a ghost tour or take a hike in the Sodalis Nature Preserve.

Distance from Columbia: about 2 hours.

Hermann isn't the only wine-centric part of the state. St. James, located in Phelps County and among WorldAtlas' six most underrated Missouri towns, is home to the award-winning St. James Winery. Another favorite in the region is Maramec Spring Park, which boasts opportunities for fishing, hiking, camping and more.

Distance from Columbia: roughly 2 hours.

Just about every corner of this overlooked town along the historic Route 66 is Instagram-worthy, says WorldAtlas. The annual Crawford County Fair in July is a highlight. The Wagon Wheel Motel is Route 66's oldest still operating motel located in Cuba. Many public murals and other locations for local food and memorabilia are available.

Clarksville

Looking for a chance to see bald eagles in one of Missouri's most picturesque towns? Then visit Clarksville, roughly an hour north of St. Louis along the Mississippi River in Pike County, says WorldAtlas. The compact town of 400 has a variety of historic buildings, antique stores and artisan craft shops. Bald eagles can be spotted in the town's Riverfront Park.

Distance from Columbia: slightly more than 2 hours.

Parkville, minutes from downtown Kansas City in Platte County, is often overlooked and underrated, and is among the most picturesque towns in the state, WorldAtlas says. The small university town also is among recommended places to visit in 2024. There are a string of parks along the Missouri River, old architecture to view and plenty of trails. On the way to Parkville, it might also be good to make a pit stop in Blue Springs, another underrated Missouri city, that features Lake Jacomo, Blue Springs Lake, Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area and shopping along Coronado Drive at Adams Dairy Parkway.

Expect traffic delays as VP Kamala Harris visits Seattle this weekend

Another White House visit, another weekend of potential red lines on our traffic maps.

Vice President Kamala Harris is coming to Seattle on Saturday for a campaign stop to raise money for this year’s Democratic ticket, which she shares with President Joe Biden.

Details are slim on Harris’ visit. Her trip follows on the heels of a swing through the city by Biden , who came to Seattle three weeks ago on a fundraising trip. First Lady Jill Biden was in the area in September.

No warning of traffic delays had been issued as of Thursday afternoon, but the Secret Service has the authority to close streets and highways for security reasons. During Biden’s recent visit, for instance, northbound Interstate 5 was closed as his motorcade made its way downtown from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, a few bus lines were rerouted and Sound Transit warned of potential light rail 1 Line delays.

Harris last visited Seattle in August , when she landed at Boeing Field before heading to South Seattle green design and construction firm McKinstry, where she spoke about climate change and touted the investments the Biden administration has made in clean energy.

She then went to a private fundraiser at the Medina home of Beth McCaw and her husband, Yahn Bernier. The fundraiser was co-hosted by Microsoft President Brad Smith, and 50 people attended who’d paid $5,000 or more (with hosts contributing up to $50,000).

This weekend’s fundraiser is hosted by Melissa and Peter Evans, according to a post from the Northwest Progressive Institute .

It’s unclear where the reception will be. The minimum cost to attend the reception is $6,600. Couples that give $12,500 will get a photo with Harris. For $100,000, people can be named co-hosts of the event.

Beyond Harris’ visit, like most summer weekends, there will be just enough travel turbulence in Seattle to make a bit of planning worthwhile.

Sound Transit’s 1 Line light rail will alternate on a single track through Columbia City Station while workers repair platform tiles. This will reduce service from the usual 10 minutes between trains to 20-minute intervals between Stadium Station and SeaTac/Airport Station all day Saturday and Sunday.

Angle Lake Station will close all day Saturday and until 10 a.m. Sunday while electric wiring is installed south of the station. The power supply will allow extra trains to be stored there overnight for about 1½ years starting Aug. 30, when four new stations open between Northgate and Lynnwood, until the 2 Line’s Interstate 90 tracks are done and trains can park overnight in Bellevue. This weekend, passengers can take an A Line bus on International Boulevard between SeaTac and Angle Lake stations.

Also this weekend, beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, multiple roads and ramps to Highway 520 will be closed in the Montlake area. They include both directions of Montlake Boulevard between East Louisa Street and East Hamlin Street, East Roanoke Street in both directions between East Louisa Street and East Montlake Place, Lake Washington Boulevard both ways between Montlake Boulevard and East Foster Island Road, all Montlake Boulevard ramps and all Lake Washington Boulevard ramps to and from Highway 520. This work will conclude 5 a.m. Monday.

A trio of Seattle Mariners baseball games against the Los Angeles Angels will add car and transit trips before the opening pitch at 7:10 p.m. Friday, 4:15 p.m. Saturday and 1:10 p.m. Sunday. Sounder commuter trains Sunday will bring fans both north and south of King Street Station. Full schedules are at soundtransit.org .

Storms Snarl Memorial Day Travel After at Least 23 Killed

The weather disrupted flights at airports from Atlanta to Boston on Monday after powerful winds and rain battered towns across the South over the weekend.

Severe Storms and Tornadoes Cause Destruction in Several States

Severe weather hit several parts of the united states over the weekend, killing more than 20 people and leaving hundreds of thousands without power..

Follow our updated coverage of Tuesday’s severe weather here .

Severe weather stretching across the Midwest and East Coast on Monday disrupted plans for millions of Americans trying to make it home after a busy weekend that was expected to break records for Memorial Day travel. The disruptions followed storms and tornadoes that killed at least 23 people in the South and left hundreds of thousands without power.

Flights at airports from Atlanta to Boston experienced ground delays and stops as severe weather, including heavy rain and potentially damaging wind and hail, moved into much of the Eastern United States on Monday afternoon and evening.

Parts of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania were under severe storm watches through late Monday, and a tornado watch was issued for an area from northern Maryland through eastern North Carolina, including Washington, D.C. Heat and more thunderstorms were forecast for Texas and the Southern Plains on Tuesday, including possible hail and strong winds.

Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration said that they had worked with the airlines to plan for the expected weather disruptions over the Memorial Day weekend. On Friday, 2.9 million people were screened at U.S. airports , the Transportation Security Administration said — a single-day record.

By midday on Monday, La Guardia Airport in New York City had reported average ground delays of 100 minutes. Flights were also delayed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the busiest in the world. And ground stops and major delays were reported or expected at airports in Chicago, Virginia, Baltimore, Washington, Philadelphia and Cleveland because of the storms, according to the F.A.A.

In Kentucky, Gov. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency on Monday morning after four people were killed over the weekend. On Monday afternoon, Gov. Beshear announced a fifth storm-related death in the state, a person who died from a heart attack while cutting fallen trees. More than 150,000 customers in the state were without power at midday after damaging winds.

Elsewhere, a tornado left at least seven people dead in North Texas, including two children ages 2 and 5. Eight people were killed in Arkansas, and two died in Oklahoma as severe storms swept through the region, flattening hundreds of buildings and blowing away homes. And severe thunderstorms in Virginia resulted in at least one fatality, officials said.

Share of customers without power

Thousands of others in the South and the Midwest were without power on Monday, according to the tracking site poweroutage.us .

Later on Monday, severe thunderstorms were expected from Texas to New York, the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center said . Flash flooding was possible from Maryland to the Catskill Mountains in New York, the Weather Service said , and tornadoes were possible in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Forecast risk of severe storms for Monday

The system was the latest to pummel the region over the past few days. Five people were killed and part of a city was obliterated in Iowa last week after a powerful tornado hit.

President Biden issued a statement of condolence to those affected by the storms, and he thanked emergency responders for their work.

“Jill and I are praying for those who tragically lost their lives as a result of devastating tornadoes that tore through Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma, leveling entire communities and leaving a path of destruction in their wake,” Mr. Biden said.

Mr. Biden said that the federal government was “ready to provide support as needed.” He noted that the Memorial Day holiday storms came just weeks after counties in the Midwest and South were recovering from severe weather.

On Sunday, severe thunderstorms in Howell County, Mo., produced hail the size of baseballs and tornadoes that downed trees and damaged homes near the town of Mountain View, said Kelsey Angle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Springfield.

An overhead view of debris scattered across a parking lot, with a brown pickup in the lower right-hand corner.

In Kentucky, Governor Beshear deployed the National Guard to help state forestry workers clear downed trees and dangerous debris. He activated the state’s price-gouging statute to prevent price increases on necessary supplies, and said he believed that the state would qualify for public assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Emergency workers have reported high water, fallen trees and other dangerous conditions in about a third of Kentucky’s 120 counties, mostly in the western part of the state, Jim Gray, the Kentucky transportation secretary, said at a news conference. The storms also impacted nearly 100 state highways.

In Texas, Governor Greg Abbott s igned a severe weather disaster declaration that covered 106 counties. Officials estimate that nearly 100 people were injured over the weekend, more than 200 homes were destroyed and over 220 buildings were damaged.
