Sierra Kidd: The Rising Star of German Rap | Exclusive Interview
Sierra Kidd, a prominent figure in German rap, has made a name for himself with his talent and early success. At the age of 16, he released his debut single “Kopfvilla,” which catapulted his career. Last year, he impressed audiences with his powerful album “600 Tage,” showcasing his growth and newfound hope. Sierra Kidd recently announced his upcoming album, “NAOSO,” teasing fans with his single “Money Machen.” In an exclusive interview, Sierra Kidd opens up about his mindset, young artists, and the importance of honesty in music.
Reflecting on his musical journey, Sierra Kidd’s evolution is evident in his discography, particularly in his album “600 Tage.” The artist has come to terms with various aspects of his life, leading to a more hopeful and confident approach to his music. However, he acknowledges that he is still on a path of self-discovery and seeks to find inner peace.
Sierra Kidd’s song “Big Boi” stands out as one of his most candid releases. Accompanied by a music video and a short documentary, the artist explores the fear of being perceived as weak and vulnerable in the rap industry. He emphasizes that his honesty is not a sign of weakness but rather a reflection of his real experiences. Sierra Kidd views music as therapy, allowing him to process his emotions and confront challenging situations. His songs, such as “Money Machen,” offer a deeper message beyond surface-level appearances, demonstrating his resilience and strength in the face of betrayal.
Growing up as the oldest sibling in a single-parent household, Sierra Kidd shouldered significant responsibilities at a young age. He draws inspiration from his mother, who instilled in him the importance of observing and learning from those around him. Sierra Kidd embraces his role as a big brother, not only within his family but also extending his support to others. He reaches out to people he admires and offers assistance, especially to up-and-coming artists and those who are less privileged. Sierra Kidd aims to provide the support he wished he had received when he was starting his journey.
In the documentary “Big Boi,” Sierra Kidd admits to being an addict. He recognizes his addictive personality, which extends to various aspects of his life, such as music and sports. While his addictive nature has fueled his musical output, he acknowledges the need to moderate his tendencies for his own well-being. Sierra Kidd is gradually finding balance and learning to manage his addictive traits more effectively.
Sierra Kidd’s label, TFS (Team Fuck Sleep), showcases the talent of young artists like Edo Saiya, Cherriimoya, and producer Consent2k. Sierra Kidd reflects on his time signed to Raf Camora’s label, “Indipendenza,” and acknowledges the lessons he learned in artist development. He realizes the significance of taking care of oneself, maintaining a focused mindset, and delegating tasks to excel in areas of personal interest. Sierra Kidd considers Raf Camora a mentor and teacher, appreciating the valuable knowledge he gained from their partnership.
The success of TFS artists like Cherriimoya and Edo Saiya has exceeded Sierra Kidd’s expectations. Cherriimoya garnered 500,000 monthly listeners with a single song, while Edo Saiya achieved significant recognition within a short period. Sierra Kidd expresses his pride in their accomplishments and wishes for their continued success and happiness. He envisions TFS becoming a renowned brand that surpasses his individual recognition. While he aims to reduce his own musical output, Sierra Kidd remains committed to his fans and plans to release albums sporadically.
Sierra Kidd acknowledges his involvement in promoting “No Faith Studios,” a brand founded by the interviewee’s brother. He highlights the importance of recognizing and supporting individuals who turn their passion into a hustle. Sierra Kidd emphasizes that he promotes his brother’s brand not out of mere goodwill but because he genuinely believes in the brand’s quality. He receives numerous music submissions from aspiring artists but advises them that producing good music is the key to recognition, rather than relying solely on endorsements. Sierra Kidd commends his brother’s brand, recognizing its excellence and expressing his support.
Looking ahead to 2021, Sierra Kidd shares his plans for the future. While touring may not be feasible due to the ongoing pandemic, he intends to shift his focus away from rap and concentrate more on the TFS brand and clothing line. Sierra Kidd envisions himself taking a backseat and allowing TFS to flourish beyond his individual success. He wishes for Edo Saiya and Cherriimoya to continue doing what they love, regardless of the level of success they achieve. Sierra Kidd embraces the present moment and expresses gratitude for everything he has accomplished thus far.
Are there any final words you want to throw out?
As a final word, I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to talk to you and to say something on your platform. Thank you to your brother, through whom we have connected, and I wish you both all the best. I think what you are doing is very important for culture and also important for the arts in this country. I know it’s a big word and it sounds huge, but it really is. You should be proud of that, you are great people. Thank you for having me here, Peace Out.

A Kid-Friendly Tour of the Sierra Madre Mountains in Mexico
Puerto vallarta with kids, by ashley burnett, family-friendly destinations.
The Sierra Madre Mountains is a few hours’ drive from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (Flickr: stephen frith)
With its plethora of family-friendly hotels and attractions, Puerto Vallarta is an obvious destination for families looking to explore Mexico. But for parents looking for a little cultural immersion and a taste of the “real” Mexico, tour operator Vallarta Adventures has the perfect solution in their new Talpa & Mascota tour . After a short three-hour bus ride – in which the tour guides make time fly with interesting anecdotes and hilarious jokes – families will find themselves in the heart of the Sierra Madre Mountains, where they’ll get to meet the locals of Talpa and Mascota as well as sample all of the delicious and authentic Mexican food they have to offer.
( MORE: 16 Under the Radar Spots for Families in Mexico for 2016 )
The tour kicks off with a stop at a local bakery just outside of Puerto Vallarta. The owners let guests try their hand at making an empanada of their own, which is great for any kid interested in the culinary arts. Kids will love sampling the pan dulce and pineapple empanadas, and these free goodies from the bakery will also keep them entertained as the bus makes its way to Mascota.

In Mascota, kids will love visiting the Museum of Archeology while the adults indulge in the town’s world-famous cheese, which is produced at the local high school. Mascota is primarily an agricultural community and an interesting change of pace from the nightlife and buzz of Puerto Vallarta. Another stunning sight in town is La Iglesia de la Preciosa Sangre, a beautiful church that was never completed and has become overrun with vegetation. The kids on tour will be fascinated by the trees growing right on top of the cathedral and relish the chance to run around the ruins.

From Mascota, the tour moves to Talpa. Here, families can learn about the religious history of the town. Every year, thousands of pilgrims make their way to Our Lady of the Rosary of Talpa to pay tribute to the Virgin of Talpa, who is said to have healing powers. Learning about this tradition is sure to leave a lasting memory on the kids, as is actually seeing the pilgrims hike through the mountain as the bus winds its way from Mascota to Talpa.

The food served during the tour is delicious and never too out there for any picky eaters. The children will love getting to taste fresh quesadillas and guava juice; while the adults will enjoy sampling the local wine and mole. The tour can be made even more family-friendly with the help of Vallarta Adventures. The tour operator encourages customized trips and can help set up special birthday parties, including scavenger hunts in both Talpa and Mascota, as well as add additional stops along the itinerary. Other options include cooking lessons, sack races through the various towns and swing-building challenges. Tours can also be made private for families looking to celebrate by themselves. This is a great option for families with children who tend to get antsy in cars, as the tour operator can add more rest stops or shorten the length of the trip.
( MORE: Underrated Mexico Destinations for Families with Kids )
Other destinations, such as San Sebastian, can also be added to the itinerary. San Sebastian is a definite must-see for its stunning scenery and beautiful coffee plantation, but beware: adding another destination means adding hours to the drive, which might not sit well with younger kids (or adults who hate being stuck on a bus).
There is minimal physical activity on the trip so no need to worry about any long hikes or extreme adventure activities. Vallarta Adventures recommends children be over the age of eight to participate in the tour. Children that are a little older will definitely appreciate the history more, as will pre-teens and teens. Overall, the tour is the perfect choice for families looking to explore more of Mexico. Prices begin at $129 per person.

The first time I came to Sierra Vista was in 1991 and I was charmed. The mountain views, smell of monsoon, and almost endless sunshine. I’ve been lucky to call this town my home for over 30 years. I’ve worked for Sierra Vista in many capacities, largely in Social Work and Education. It is now, though, that I am doing what I’ve always wanted; sharing with others what I’ve learned about the rich history of this area and providing family oriented experiences. Let’s connect with history and make new memories!
Anna is a native to Cochise County with a keen interest in Southwest History. She would be happy to share with you the curious background of Sierra Vista; from the uncivilized to the cosmopolitan. From a time when people hunted mammoths on this landscape until a time when they were paying 35 cents for a dozen eggs at the supermarket. See you at the West End!

Country singer Sierra Ferrell and her band performed at the State Theatre on Thursday. Photo by Robert Ker
Country singer Sierra Ferrell took the long road to appear on the State Theatre stage on Sept. 12. She left her West Virginia home at a young age to tour with a group of traveling musicians, busking in city centers and playing on boxcars and truck stops from Seattle to New Orleans. In a distinctly 21st-century twist to the ramblin’ woman trope, her performances were uploaded to YouTube, where they soon went viral. After settling in Nashville, she began releasing records and collaborating extensively, winning over fans with her sharp songwriting and crystalline singing voice.
Concert review
WHAT: Sierra Ferrell
WHERE: State Theatre, Portland
WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 12
Ferrell’s adherence to Americana tradition was foregrounded the moment she took the stage. Wearing a flouncy, ruffled pink dress, surrounded by men wearing identical suits and hats, and performing before a local floral arrangement, she began the concert playing fiddle and leading her band through the ballad “I Could Drive You Crazy.” As an introduction it worked wonderfully, first showcasing her voice – often remarkably similar to Dolly Parton’s in a concert setting – and inviting crowd participation before giving room for her full band to expand on the sound with a hoedown-like breakdown.
Her stage show had two general formations: one in which the band was spread apart and performing on instrumentation like a rock band, and one in which the band was huddled together in more of a bluegrass formation (with upright bass and snare drum). As is typical with these kinds of shows, the audience seemed to favor the latter arrangement, particularly on a one-two punch of her own “The Garden” followed by a cover of Parton’s “Here I Am.”
She was comfortable and generous with her cover songs; one of the concert’s peaks was her take on Kris Kristofferson’s “Me and Bobby McGee” (which was popularized by Janis Joplin, another touchstone for Ferrell’s singing). Her original songs, particularly those from her 2024 album Trail of Flowers, made the strongest impact, however, whether it was the hushed reverie of “Lighthouse” or the barroom stomper “Dollar Bill Bar.” For “American Dreaming,” she detailed the lonesome life on the road, with the audience joining in for the “whoas” that decorate the chorus. The song has the widescreen, windswept feel of the music of country superstar Zach Bryan (her duet partner on his hit song “Holy Roller”). The way in which the sold-out audience embraced the new material suggests that there is a long, promising road in front of Ferrell, too.

Gwyneth Paltrow Took Her Kids on a Gourmet College Dropoff Food Tour
While moving her kids into college, Paltrow stopped at buzzy restaurants in New Haven, Nashville, and Providence.
Moving into college , while exciting, is also an exhausting and emotionally draining experience. But, it can be made better by great meals. That, at least, has been Gwyneth Paltrow’s strategy over the past couple of weeks, as she and her husband, Brad Falchuk, moved three of their kids into college.
On Paltrow’s Instagram , she charted her journey to New Haven, CT, Nashville, TN, and Providence, RI. Her stepson, Brody Falchuk, is starting at Yale, her daughter Apple Martin is a junior at Vanderbilt University, and her son Moses Martin is beginning freshman year at Brown University. Along the way, Paltrow hit famous restaurants in each city.
In New Haven, Paltrow went to Sally’s Apizza, a Connecticut pizza standby that’s been open since 1938. There, she ordered the tomato sauce pie, a custom sausage and pepperoni pie, and the New Haven white clam pie. “The thinnest crust and tangiest sauce ever!” Paltrow wrote. “Surpasses the hype.”
Also in New Haven, the Paltrow-Falchuk crew went to Fair Haven Oyster Company, a riverside oyster bar. “So unbelievably good,” Paltrow wrote. “The fried dough & caviar was incredible. Had one of the best cheeseburgers of my life, and of course… oysters.”
Next, in Nashville, Paltrow headed to Kisser, a newer, casual restaurant that specializes in Japanese comfort food. It’s also Nashville’s only 2024 James Beard Award finalist. Paltrow ordered the chopped salad with miso dressing, onigiri (which she called “out of this world”), the tomato sandwich, and the chicken katsu sandwich. Kisser, Paltrow said, is “the most perfect lunch-only Japanese spot.”
And finally, it was time to drop off Moses Martin, Paltrow’s youngest child. In Providence, the group went to Al Forno, a longtime Brown University standby for parents-in-town dinners and birthday parties. Paltrow ate griddled pizzas, beet and avocado salad, linguine with clams, and baked pasta.
For a midday treat, the group ventured to Frank and Laurie’s, where Paltrow said she had “the best lunch of my life.” Her favorite dishes were the deviled eggs, cucumber salad, tomato salad, the egg sandwich, and the hashbrowns.
Paltrow and Falchuk are now officially empty nesters, as Moses and Brody were the last two kids to head to college (Falchuk’s older daughter, Isabella, is already at Cornell University). Earlier this year, Paltrow spoke about the mixed feelings that would come along with this moment.
“On the one hand [I feel] incredible sadness. A deep sense of impending grief,” she told The Times . “On the other hand this is exactly what should be happening. Your kids are supposed to be, you know, young adults who can achieve and cope and make connections and be resilient. That’s exactly what you want. And that means they leave the house.”
