Le Pont de la Tour
Ratings and reviews
Location and contact, michelin guide's point of view.
An evening of mixed experiences, though overall good. The main server who took our orders ( who would benefit from a more polished look) rushed through the starters and main courses without any mention of vegetables or side dishes, even though it was plain from... the menu that these would be necessary. Instead of a requested simple green salad, a more elaborate pear salad was served to me. When I commented on this, I was invited to enjoy it without any charge whilst they also served me the requested green salad. Later, on inspecting the bill at the end of the meal, we saw that we had been charged for the pear salad as well as the green salad. We brought our own wine and the advertised £35 corkage was charged at £40 on the bill. The wine was decanted into a decanter with really obvious, unattractive water marks. On a positive note, the outdoor terrace is very attractive, with tables well-spaced apart, gorgeous views and ample heating. This space has really come into its own this year. Main courses of an excellent steak and chips and a truly superb whole grilled turbot were food highlights. This is a restaurant we have visited now and again over the years. Some superb food and a gorgeous location are let down by shoddy staff who lack finesse and attention to detail. With improvements in these areas, and amongst all its rivals in London, this would still be a true destination restaurant for now and going forward. More
Dear Lydia, I hope you are well and thank you for sharing your feedback. I am very sorry you left the restaurant with a bitter taste. We always strive to provide the best food and service possible and I am very sorry this wasn’t the... More
This is the second time we've been to Le Pont de la Tour and we can't recommend it enough! Both times we have booked the private dining room for our party of 20 people - the private dining menu was great value and the food... and wine was of a very high quality. The staff were very obliging - Robert in particular was extremely helpful. This is a brilliant option for private dining and we will definitely be booking again! More
Dear Hannah S, Thank you very much for sharing your lovely feedback. We are glad you had great time in our private dining room in both occasions. We look forward to welcoming you again very soon. Best regards, Luca
Arrived for our pre booked table and was ignored for possibly 10 mins, despite two hosts and multiple waiters passing us many times avoiding eye contact. Just a nod or acknowledgment would have been fine. Once greeted with cold reception, we were seated and then... ignored for another 20 mins, without even a refreshment offered bearing in mind it was 35c. The set menu has many items from the a La Carte, however it wasn’t offered and was almost frowned upon when asking for it. The view is great, food was lovely, however the service throughout was poor which unfortunately overshadowed the food. In the current climate with restaurants fighting to survive and attract customers, there is no room for restaurants with this this type of service. I wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend due to this experience. More
We were a group of five eating before the theatre. Unfortunately one of the party was delayed enroute. The staff were very helpful, ensuring he had his food as soon as possible when he did arrive, and for the rest of the us the food... was provided promptly in time for the theatre. We had the three course menu for £20 including a small glass of wine. There was a reasonable range of choices, and the food we had was well prepared and delicious. The wine was lovely too. The staff were extremely helpful. We would highly recommend this well presented but relaxed restaurant close to Tower Bridge. More

When outside dining was allowed I jumped at the chance to join some friends in London .This was not my choice of restaurant but given its location and proximity to the City I felt assured of a quality meal . I was first of our... group to arrive and ordered a drink .When some 15 minutes later the others arrived I had still not got my drink .Service throughout was not great .Being a french restaurant or so the name implied I was surprised when seeing the menu firstly it was limited and that there were no obvious french dishes . I chose scallops to start and lamb to follow but when told the scallops were uncooked changed to the duck dish .The duck starter was small ,cold and had no taste .This is just a personal taste opinion .The lamb was cooked perfectly .The lamb dish consisted of two very small chops two baby potatoes cut in half and a couple of green stalks which I think was broccoli .All the table on seeing their meals immediately ordered portions of chips .My main course cost £50 with the chips .I assumed I was paying much of that for the view .. I am sure this restaurant is popular with tourists and city workers on expenses if and when they return but not for me again or any of the others at our table .I have never had a problem with the cost of meals in quality restaurants providing I consider I have had value for my money and don’t come out and go looking for the nearest fish and chip shop . Celebratory meal with a beautiful view ruined. We both enjoyed the lovely food and flavours however this was tainted and spoilt by pushy, rude waiters. Staff removed our plates whilst we were still physically eating off the plates, told us we would have to leave... if we did not order soon and shoved the bill in front of us whilst we were eating dessert telling us we had to pay then. Very very disappointed. More
The main dining area is amazing with views of the bridge but we wanted something special for a friends birthday. We booked out one of the private rooms in advance (the dark wine cellar), which had a great atmosphere for a relaxed but lux fine... dining experience. They arranged a venue visit beforehand to run through all of the logistics of the party (cake, decorations, etc) which was helpful. Organisation was quick and personable, special thank you to Robert who made us feel very well looked after. Definitely would recommend one of the private rooms available. It was especially nice to enjoy coffees and desserts without feeling the pressure to leave and free up the space for other customers. More
Dear Dreamer27257, Thank you very much for the lovely feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your experience in the Wine Cellar. I will definitely pass your comments to Robert. We look forward to welcoming you back again very soon. Best regards, Luca
I went for lunch today with a friend and her baby. We sat outside on the terrace. The view is stunning but that's about all going for this place. The waiter serving us gave us the full price menu and whisked away, and didn't mention... there was a lunch menu, I had to ask. The lunch was much better value with 3/5 of the same dishes on per course. The service was surly at best and the food was OK. A chilled soup to start followed by fillet of plaice with flabby soft fish skin underneath, some strange potatoes and no vegetables. The bread was nice but some pieces a bit stale. Not good value at £86 for 2 soft drinks and 2 people having £25 2 course menus with water and a side. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else. There are better places. More
We took my Dad her me for his 80th birthday and I have to say I wish we had stuck with our original plan to go to a Corbin & King establishment rather than opt for a change and go for a D&D. Service was... so disappointing, we had drinks on the terrace for 2 hours in which time I had just 2 drinks as the waiting staff only visited twice! My second cocktail had just an inch of liquid in it albeit covered in gold dusted rose petals. For dinner we were sat by the door so my 73 yo mum had to keep her coat on despite the restaurant being pretty empty throughout the entire night. Food was fine but not the supreme quality one would expect when paying, for example, £46 for the lamb dish. The dorade was beautifully cooked but don’t get excited by the jersey Royal offering, they were few and far between. The bill was a disaster and we were almost charged twice for our pre-drinks but to their credit we given complementary digestifs. Some of the waiting staff were very helpful, others seemed to be fed up being back at work. Our bill for 5 people was over £850 and I don’t think that was realised by the quality, quantity or atmosphere. Such a shame given the momentous occasion we were celebrating. More
Dear Zoe M, Thank you very much for sharing your feddback. We are really sorry you didn't enjoy your experience with us. We always strive to deliver the best food and service possible and I am sorry if this wasn't the case. Please drop me... More
I booked a table online three weeks ahead of dinner and wrote twice that I wanted an outside table. When I went to the restaurant, they told us it was first comes first served. It is not written on the online booking system. I believe... it is totally unfair. Why did I book to sit in totally empty inside dining area while luck people can just come and sit outside by the view. It was a special day dinner and I had to talk to the waitress 10 times to move outside because I saw many empty tables. Although there were like 10 tables empty outside, they did not move us and they kept saying that they would. It is not worth the price at all. More
Dear Runne, Thank you for your feedback on your visit with us. We are sorry to hear that your experience was hindered by not being able to be seated outside as soon as you arrived. We do adhere to the first come first serve policy... More
We ate lunch here mid-week, choosing the restaurant because there were nicely spaced outdoor terrace tables (under an awning and inside a glass partition). We booked ahead; it was moderately busy on the terrace (overlooking tower bridge) on the day, but plenty of room inside.... On arrival we were asked to use hand sanitiser, and our temperatures were checked. The attentive staff all wore visors. We ate from the set menu, with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, which was on the on-line menu but not the printed wine list. But they found us one! The food was all beautifully presented. I had the chilled courgette and lemon thyme soup, which was absolutely stunning! Followed by grilled plaice; it was on the bone, and the flesh was a little wet, but it was fine, and the heritage potatoes and samphire were a nice touch, and very tasty. With 2 side orders, one dessert and 2 teas, it came to £65 each. More
Dear TravellingHappily, We are delighted that you had such a lovely time with us for your lunch! We certainly appreciate your observations on all the protocol and precautions we take with regards to Covid-19. Our customer and employee safety is of utmost importance to us.... More
My starter was flavourless. The vegan main course was described as “mush”. The chateaubriand was without much flavour and was shackingly tough - priced at £90! This purports to be a top end french Restaurent (£500 for four) but they refused to make a peppercorn... source. Our waiter implied sauces were made off site and reheated and they didn’t have peppercorn. The menu is much reduced when compared to pre pandemic which would be understandable if the standards were high but I’m afraid this place is not what it was. The cheese was served very cold, presumably straight from then fridge. The only thing that remains excellent is the location and view but that’s not enough to excuse these prices, especially when neighbouring restaurants are far better quality and value. More

This evening I treated my friend Brian to the Evening Standard menu in the restaura nt. Fabulous corner table with great view of Tower Bridge.Very comfortable with nicely set tab le reminiscent of The Ivy.The complimentary wine,a rioja, was nectar and served at the perfect temperature.Generous... portions on the set menu and I thought the food was delicious .Very civilized prawn cocktail,Roast Cod then a superb pavlova with pistachio cream and winter berries then complimentary petit fours. The service was professional and very friendly -I was charmed and made to feel very welcomed. I would go back in the summer for a special occasion and to enjoy the terrace.the restaurant has recently had millions spent on it - its a wonderfully stylish yet cosy environment Some niggles:the prawn cocktail needed something ,one more thing,to lift it into something really special. The bouillabaisse sauce with the roast cod was a bit bland.the side order of new potatoes was stodgy. But these were niggles. Overall a lovely evening and hope I can come back one day! More
Dear Tom B, Thank you very much for your lovely comments. We are glad you enjoyed the whole experience with us. However I'm sorry you found couple of things in the food not up to your expectations. I will pass the comment to the Chef.... More
My girlfriend and I had dinner last night at the restaurant and I was completely blown away by the service, the food and the ambience. We had an indoors window table with a spectacular view of a lit up Tower Bridge and superb waiting staff... all evening. Very friendly, accommodating and knowledgable. I’ve read some negative reviews of this restaurant previously, however these people must have been at a different venue. Would highly recommend for a special occasion - it was actually more reasonably priced than I was expecting too which was an added bonus! The steak was perfectly cooked and the oysters were fresh - not to mention the delicious bottle of claret we had. Will be returning soon More
Food quality let’s this well furnished restaurant in a fantastic location down. Service also needs improvement although response from restaurant manager was good. Main issue was sirloin steak main course. It had a horrid bitter, rancid taste which arises from sitting in stale blood. The... steak was served rare as requested. It was sent back to the kitchen but the same steak returned a few minutes later, just cooked to medium. The explanation from the chef was that he had cooked more as I didn’t like the taste of blood! Not the case, but I could not eat with the stale bitter taste. Chefs other comment was it tasted as it did because it had been dry aged for 40 days. I eat aged steak regularly and no the difference. Clearly the chef did not want to accept the problem was the quality of the raw steak. I left having eaten only a tuna tartare starter. Other issues. Starter arrived within 2 minutes of serving G&T aperitif. Chicken main course was bland. Restaurant manager was understanding and removed a number of items from my bill. However it is a bit much to charge 12.5% service even on the lower bill. More

Michelin guide’s point of view.
Few restaurants in London can claim to have a better location than this. For over 30 years, Le Pont de la Tour has been wowing diners with its jaw-dropping views of Tower Bridge, best appreciated from the terrace on a warm summer's day. The restaurant itself, as the name suggests, is thoroughly French at heart: expect confidently executed classics from ratatouille Niçoise to gratin Normande. The carefully chosen wine list offers a broad and interesting selection, of both the classic and the esoteric varieties.
