Db Equipment’s Douchebag Is The Last Ski Bag You’ll Ever Need

Douchebag

You shouldn’t trust your investment in winter adventure – good powder skis  are expensive – to a bargain bag or case. We discovered Norwegian brand Db Equipment , and their Douchebag Ski Bag earlier this season. Once we stopped giggling at the name (yes, they’re completely serious), we discovered that it is one of the most functional, well thought out ski haulers in the business.

The Douchebag $249

It used to be that with a ski bag you had to choose between protection and lightweight. Hard cases were the most practical for cross-continent hauls, but are incredibly unwieldy and heavy. Likewise, soft cloth cases are easy to use and store, but can leave your precious ski touring kit in pieces if you encounter the wrong layover.  The Douchebag solves this with their Rib Cage construction. A series of alternating foam and hard plastic reinforcements gives the bag enough padding and structure to protect skis, without adding extra weight.

  • New Solo Stove Torch might be the only tiki torch you’ll ever need to buy
  • This Walmart Tent Offers the Best Sleep You’ll Ever Have in the Great Outdoors

The Douchebag further adds to the pack body with an innovative hook and ladder-lock closure. Essentially, you can roll the top of the bag down from 200cm fully extended (long enough for all but extreme lengths of downhill racing skis) to a completely compressed roll. For skis shorter than the maximum, this rolled top adds padding for one end of your skis, while the reinforced, hard bottom securely holds the other end. The padding and length customization effectively keep your skis from rattling around, which is when most damage could be done.

Access to the bag is easy, as two three-quarter length zippers open the top panel for easy loading and unloading of your skis and gear. We easily fit two pairs of skis and all our outerwear in the bag with no problems. If you’re traveling alone, with one pair of skis we even fit our boots and helmet (although we prefer to never check our ski boots). In short, the Douchebag is the easiest to use, and most well thought-out ski bag we’ve ever come across.

The Hugger $159

We regularly travel with camera gear (GoPros, DSLR, tripod, and lights), avalanche safety gear, and of course all our après ski luxuries . At thirty liters, the Hugger pack is the perfect add-on for the Douchebag. Built with the same Rib Cage constuction (without the plastic for carrying comfort), and sleek lines, it docks on the back of the larger ski bag for easy maneuvering through crowded airports. It swallows all our essentials from packable snow shovels and camera bags, to all our clothes for off-snow, after hours adventures. It also has a top pouch for travel documents and electronics, and a padded laptop case that will fit up a fifteen-inch Macbook with ease. The shoulder straps are padded well, making for easy carry around an airport or town. We’ve found it invaluable for more than just travel, as it fits our padded camera organizers well, and has full panel opening like the larger Douchebag.

Whether you’re hauling your skis for a long weekend road trip, or a week long bucket list ski trip , the Douchebag should be first on your list of essential winter travel gear.

America has some of the most scenic hiking locations in the whole world. From old favorites to new finds, many of us are constantly getting our hiking boots dusty. If you're looking for a challenging yet scenic hike to get your loved ones hooked on the great outdoors, it's your lucky day. KÜHL has just released an eye-opening study about the top 10 most scenic in the USA.

This study looked at 20 different hiking trails from each state and ranked them on a weighted scale based on four parameters:

Teardrop trailers have certainly come a long way in the last century, and especially in the last decade. The best off-road-ready models boast ultra-rugged designs built to tackle almost any terrain. The downside, however, is that their compact size means you'll need to sacrifice interior living space, and sometimes, that's just not a concession you're willing to make. Enter Mammoth Overland's all-new TL overland trailer, a beast of a travel trailer that's Apocalypse-ready and roomy enough to sleep four adults. Get the low-down on Mammoth Overland's flagship overland trailer

On the outside, the TL overland trailer feels like a curious hybrid of a teardrop trailer and a compact yet rugged travel trailer. It is indeed both, and yet neither. Stepping inside, it's easy to understand the TL (or "Tall Boy") moniker. The tall interior provides 6'3" of headroom and is plenty roomy for even your tallest friends to stand up comfortably. The floor plan is equally spacious, with room for a king-sized bed plus a modular couch that easily converts to a bed. Combined, there's room for four adults to sleep comfortably or a family of five with small-ish children. That is an absurd amount of living space for a relatively compact trailer.

Are you ready to tee off on a luxurious golf getaway? Look no further! We’re taking a look at the best all-inclusive golf resorts, where luxury meets leisure on the greens. All-inclusive resorts offer a wonderful blend of incredible accommodations, championship courses, and luxury amenities. Whether you are a seasoned professional or are just looking to enjoy world-class facilities, all-inclusive resorts have something to offer you. Let’s dive in.  Sandals Emerald Bay, Bahamas

Sandals Emerald Bay is located along the gorgeous shores of Great Exuma in the Bahamas and is one of the best all-inclusive golf resorts in the world. This stunning resort boasts a championship Greg Norman-designed golf course, which also claims the title of the longest golf course in the Caribbean. Six of the holes on this 18-hole course are situated on their own peninsula, providing players with stunning views.

This New Ski Boot Bag Won’t Make You Look Like a Douchebag

The brand formerly known as douchebags just released the new db duplex duffel that happens to comfortably hold your ski boots and more..

Heading out the door? Read this article on the new Outside+ app available now on iOS devices for members! >","name":"in-content-cta","type":"link"}}'>Download the app .

Some skiers come out of the womb with their ski boot bags ready to go. They live out of them during day trips, overnighters, and pretty much the rest of their winter lives. Other skiers—usually exhibitionist-types—prefer to hang their naked ski boots precariously on the shoulder straps of their backpacks whenever they are going somewhere.

I used to be in that second group. I thought boot bags were a waste of money, and besides, carrying around my ski boots announced to everyone at the Denver airport, ski area parking lot, or ski area hotel lobby that I am, obviously, a skier (just in case they couldn’t tell by my ski brand logo shirt and awkwardly long ski bag).

As I got older, I got tired of dealing with my free-hanging boots that insisted on bumping into my sides, my elbows, and the foreheads of people sitting in their assigned seats patiently waiting for the airplane to finish loading. I finally got a ski boot bag and, since then, haven’t had to beg for forgiveness from strangers who just had their wireframe glasses broken by my toe lugs.

But my entry into the world of ski boot bags has come with its own slew of problems. Most of these bags have some sort of awkward divider to keep the boots separate from everything else. So while the ski boots stay happy in their spacious waterproofed condominium, the rest of the ski gear is crammed into a special black hole where neck gaiters and gloves get backstage passes to Narnia and don’t return until the ski trip is over.

Michelle parker loads the Db Duplex

Db—the Norwegian brand formerly known as Douchebags and co-founded by legendary skier-turned-influencer Jon Olsson—just released a new duffel bag that is actually a sweet ski boot bag. The Db Duplex uses a central divider to keep the two large compartments separate but also incorporates a slew of mesh pockets and reinforcements to make it easy to keep things that are not ski boots organized and prevent anything from escaping to a different dimension.

The Db Duplex is not marketed as a ski boot bag, instead, it’s called an “adventure duffel,” which—so I am told—is a critical part of a Norwegian uniform for summer vacations. But the compartments on either side of the Duplex are perfect for a pair of ski boots. The side without ski boots can hold a full outerwear kit, midlayers, and baselayers, while the numerous mesh pockets can take care of goggles and gloves. The 70-liter and 90-liter models have enough room to comfortably fit a ski helmet, and, if you’ve been practicing your Marie Kondo-style organizing and storage abilities during quarantine, the 50-liter can hold a brain bucket, too.

Carrying more luggage? Check out The Best Ski Bags for Storm Chasers and Bucket List Skiers

The 50, 70, and 90 liter Db Duplex bags.

“What sets The Duplex apart is the organization factor—gone are the days of digging deep in your bag for a pair of underwear and not being able to find it,” says pro skier Michelle Parker on Db’s website . “And the split feature makes it easy to dial in your gear and travel seamlessly between adventures.”

Thanks to the reinforcements built into the exterior lining in critical locations, the bag is still utilitarian and comfortable when only carrying ski boots on one side with nothing else inside.

While the engineering and storage level of the Db Duplex is pretty awesome, it isn’t quite perfect. The exterior lining is built to be durable, but the interior lining isn’t waterproof, so making sure your boots are dried off at the end of the ski day is important. Also, despite being categorized as a duffel bag, the Duplex is actually a backpack. Incorporating some sort of strap that allows the user to carry it like a duffel bag for future generations would be a nice option.

The Duplex does incorporate Db’s signature Hook Up system, making it easy to attach to a Db Snow Roller or other Db wheeled luggage option. This makes the Duplex a mandatory addition to anyone who has already joined Db’s expansive luggage universe .

I’d love to tell you that I’m taking the bag to Ski Portillo next month for testing, but, thanks to Covid restrictions, I will have to wait a bit longer before I can test the Db Duplex’s performance on a long haul flight and in the field. But I do plan to use it for some car camping trips this summer as it’s versatile enough for that, too.

Perhaps I’ll head to one of these American summer skiing locations to get some turns in while I’m at it.

Description

THE SMART WAY TO TRAVEL WITH YOUR SKI OR SNOWBOARD GEAR. Check out my long-form review of the Douchebag 1.0 here: http://aussieskier.com/equipment/douchebags-ski-bag-review/

The short version: The Snow Roller is the best ski bag on the planet.

Maybe a bit too big? Check out the Douchebag Slim Jim Single bag !

The most thought-through ski and snowboard bag on the market. Combining lightweight design, length-adjustability and smart solutions, The Douchebag has redefined travelling with ski or snowboard gear.

Length Adjustment

The patented Length Adjustment System customizes the length of The Douchebag to the length of your skis or snowboard, up to 200cm. A perfect fit ensures the bag remains rigid for safe and comfortable transportation.

Compression

Thanks to its unique construction, The Douchebag is fully foldable. While not in use, the bag easily rolls up into a handy-sized portable unit. This feature makes The Douchebag the most storage-efficient ski and snowboard bag on the market.

Lightweight

The need for a Lightweight construction became painfully clear when several airliners changed their baggage weight allowances back in 2011. That is why we developed a new and lightweight protection system. The Douchebag weighs in at only 3,4kg (7,5 lbs.). PCT Patent Pending

Inspired by how the human rib cage protects the body’s most valuable organs, the patented Rib Cage construction in The Douchebag protects the gear inside. The Rib Cage construction is composed of strong and lightweight ABS ribs, shaped in a three-stage foldable structure. This feature has allowed traditional padding to be removed – leaving the bag lightweight yet fully protective.

Shoulder Carrying System

The Shoulder Carrying System is an adjustable strap that can be attached to the front handle or the sidewall of The Douchebag. The system enables easier transportation by allowing you to tow the bag behind you, freeing your hands for whatever else you may need them for.

One of our applauded innovations is the patented hook-up system, lifting weight off of your shoulders and placing it over the wheels instead. Quick attachment G-buckles enables the Douchebag to easily connect to all Douchebags backpacks and Carryall Bags

Ski Bags   are a pretty simple premise. To make dragging all of your ski kit overseas easy and comfortable, and to keep the dastardly airlines from damaging your new, shiny, skis that you purchased here at aussieskier (wink wink).

Over the last 30 years, the aussieskier crew have become fairly experienced travellers. For the most part, doing back to back winters both here in Australia and various parts of the world. America, Canada, Europe, Japan, we have definitely had some fun sampling the worlds mountains and the amazing snow found across the seas. We have picked up a few tips about travelling over the years, so if you have any questions, definitely get in touch.

Factors to Consider

Considering cavemen worked out the wheel thousands of years ago, its hard to consider travelling with a bag without wheels. Full ski bags can weigh upwards of 25kg, your shoulder will thank you for wheels.

Baggage handlers are rough on baggage. Doesn’t matter if you fly first class or budget, the same people are throwing your bags around the tarmac. Padded bags last longer and offer better protection for your gear.

Compressibility

A Douchebag speciality, when you aren’t using your ski bag, compressible bags take up less room. Roll it up and forget about it, rather than trying to stuff it under the bed.

Getting Ski Bag length right is important if you want to avoid the dreaded bag sag. The feeling of having the bottom of the bag drag along the ground of the airport is not a nice one.

Lighter is better in the world of ski bags, means you can take more of your precious cargo without busting your baggage allowance.

Ski Bags Comparison Tables

We have composed a range of information about all of the different ski bag options for you to assess in one place.

Any defective items that are still within the manufacturer’s warranty period will be returned to the manufacturer or their local agent for warranty assessment.

The manufacturer or their local agent has sole discretion in determining whether an item is defective and qualifies for a repair or replacement.

Be sensible – if you slide rails or hit rocks, your skis aren’t going to get replaced.

Chips to the edges of a ski's topsheet & topsheet peeling caused by skiing with your feet close together or banging your skis together on a lift are not covered by warranty.

Contact us with your proof of purchase to begin the process.

Luggage: Please note that luggage warranties specifically refer to manufacturing defects, not damage sustained during travel. For example a tear in the fabric isn't covered, but a burst seam or defective zip is.

Airline policies differ, but generally require you to report damage sustained to your luggage either at the airport or within 1-3 days of your flights in order to receive compensation.

"THIS PLACE IS AWESOME"

They sorted me out with a new backcountry setup, and couldn't have been more helpful. Answered all my questions about tech bindings and boots. They obviously use the gear, and seriously know their stuff. They tracked down some hard to find items, and then got my gear sorted and in the post the same afternoon I ordered it. So glad I found this place!

"GREAT SERVICE AND REALLY FRIENDLY"

I'm in Sydney and they're in Melbourne but no problem getting on the phone with my boot size to mount the bindings and very kindly trim the skins for the skis. Shipping was fast and am impressed by their personal service. Thanks guys! Would definitely shop here again.

"20 YEARS OF PAIN, GONE!"

These insoles have fixed my lifelong pain that I've experienced wearing ski boots. Within 2 hours of skiing with these, my body adjusted to them and I have yet to experience any discomfort / pain whilst using these. 2020 is the first year I've returned to Melbourne from skiing pain free! Will recommend to all my friends.

“EXCELLENT SERVICE AND GREAT PRICE”

I’m very happy with the advice and service i received from Aussieskier before buying my new skis. The staff are super helpful and sent my skis by courier straight away so I had them in time for an overseas trip. The skis arrived in perfect condition with binding attached and exactly as expected. I would definitely buy from Aussieskier again in the future.

Db™ - REDEFINING TRAVEL

There is much more to this company than just a funny name Db - formerly known as douchebags - is a movement. The Norwegian company is on a mission to make travel easier. In 2009 Jon Olsson, a pioneer of freestyle skiing and Truls Brataas, a product designer, met surfing. The two minds struck it off immediately and the original Db ski bag was born. A ski bag like no other: lighter, stronger and more packable. Since 2012, when production began, Jon Olsson has travelled the world with his trusty ski bag.

‘THE BEST SKI BAG EVER MADE'

Db started with one product, the Douchebag. A multiple award-winning ski bag and ‘the best ski bag ever made' , according to Outside Magazine. This ski bag extends up to two metres and folds down to a fraction of its size when not in use. The Douchebag is complimented by the Slim Jim, another folding ski bag, but even more compact. The Slim Jim and The Douchebag are two of the lightest wheeled snowboard or ski bags on the market. The luggage line also features the Big Bastard and Little Bastard. These two follow the douchebag's heritage of quality and quirky names. The Big Bastard is 90 litres, durable and lightweight - ideal for longer trips. The Little Bastard is of equal quality and has 60 litres of storage. The Hugger 30L and 60L are designed as everyday, carry-on luggage. The newest addition to The douchebags family is the Freya. The skiing and snowboarding knowledge of The Db team has crafted a minimal, yet fully equipped, skiing backpack - great for on and off the hill.

What makes Db products special?

What separates Db products from an ordinary ski or snowboard bags? They follow the fine tradition of Scandinavian design. Each bag looks sleek and stylish, but it's not all for show. You would struggle to find luggage which performs as well.

Db have five design principles:

  • Adjustability – Bags are length- and capacity-adjustable, ready for your gear.
  • Easy to Carry Straps and handles make carrying your douchebag a breeze.
  • Protection – ABS ‘ribs' keep your equipment safe.
  • Low weight – Who needs heavy baggage? Avoid extra charges with the lightest bags about.
  • Compressible – all douchebags roll up or pack down to a fraction of their size.

The five design principles have been carefully crafted. The masterminds behind douchebags, Jon and Truls, surveyed 150 skiers and snowboarders, baggage handlers and airline companies. Add to the mix The Norwegian University of Science and Technology and you have both brains and experience. All of these minds together have begun to redefine travel.

Douchebag Ski Bag

Padding / Protection

The Douchebag, with only its array of flexible plastic plates as protection, is not the most padded bag I’ve used. Compared to the Dakine Double Concourse  or the now-discontinued Patagonia Black Hole Snow Roller , the Douchebag feels a bit thin and flimsy, especially since it does not have any foam padding along the top and sides.

It has, however, worked well for me without that padding and I haven’t suffered any damage to my skis, boots, or other gear throughout multiple international trips this year. The hard plastic plates seem to provide ample protection even for very wide skis like the DPS Spoon (dimensions, mm: 158-148-151).

I was concerned about the Douchebag’s ability to handle being stuffed with fat skis, boots, avalanche gear, and other essentials that usually torture the inside of my ski bags. And it seem like I’ve maxed it out with the DPS Spoon coupled with the Whitedot Carbon Redeemer, bindings for both skis, avy gear, and a pair of boots.

But it handled all that almost as well as the Patagonia Black Hole Snowroller. It does not have the expansive volume of the Dakine Double Concourse  but it’s ample for my needs even when rolling with multiple pairs of skis for review trips, or with the fattest powder skis for Japan.

A vital part of every ski trip is packing and weighing my duffel and ski bag for airline baggage regulations. As I wrote in my review of the Patagonia Black Hole bag, there is a pretty large discrepancy between the weights of various ski bags currently on the market. The Douchebag comes in right around 8lbs which is about as light as I’ve seen (comparable to the Patagonia) for a fully featured bag that can carry two pairs of fat skis and has wheels.

I’ve used non-wheeled ski bags before when traveling with a single light pair of touring skis, but for any load more than that, wheels make life a lot better. The wheels on the Douchebag have worked well so far, down plenty of snowy, gravel roads and in busy train stations.

I also really like the option to attach the shoulder strap to the front to help drag the bag. Being able to move hands-free can be really nice when negotiating airports and other busy places.

Luggage Hauling

I loved that I could lash my duffle bag to the top of my Patagonia ski bag so I didn’t have to carry it over my shoulder on long walks. It worked very well, and was almost indispensable moving through the Japanese bus and train systems.

The Douchebag has a similar system, but it doesn’t mate well with my Patagonia duffel and the accessory bags made by Douchebag aren’t quite large enough for a lot of the trips I do.

I found a simple solution by using the daisy-chain-type tracks on the Douchebag with a couple of carabiners to clip my duffel in place, just as I had done with my Patagonia bag. This has worked great even when bouncing down escalators and long stairwells with 50 pounds in the duffle and 50 pounds in the ski bag.

As I’ve written above, I’ve stuffed this ski bag to capacity and have not had any issues so far with serious damage to the bag or its contents.

The areas of material not backed by the hard plastic panels do seem like they would be prone to ski edge cuts, and I experienced just that on our way down to New Zealand this year: a small 3cm cut in the handle of the bag from the tip of one of my skis. It doesn’t seem to be spreading, though, and should be easily reparable.

The zipper has held up to a lot of high-resistance, overstuffed zipping and shows no sign of failure.

At $239 (USD) the Douchebag is competitive with other popular ski bags, such as the Dakine Double Concourse ($225) or the Thule Roundtrip Double Ski Roller ($249).

The Name…

My ski partner has one of the older Douchebag ski bags, and it has the the full name written out on the side of the bag. Suffice it to say that I’m glad that the new Douchebags now have a more subtle “Db” logo.

Bottom Line

Ski bags aren’t a product where I’ve noticed a lot of innovation or new thinking, but the Douchebag clearly changes that. With the Patagonia Black Hole no longer on the market, the Douchebag is easily my ski bag of choice. If you spend a lot of time traveling to ski, I highly recommend it.

18 comments on “Douchebag Ski Bag”

Why so squeamish about the product name? If it were named after a male personal care item would you still want the name to be more subtle?

Yes. I’d be equally uninterested in having the name of any male personal care item writ large across my ski bag.

So I typically travel for no more than ten days with a single snowboard, helmet, boots, outerwear, and day clothes, within the US and to Europe and Japan. Am looking to trade out my Burton locker bag (heavy with hard casings on both ends) for something that’s “less bag” and less prone to overloading but still protective, mainly against appalling NYC airport baggage handlers. Also I’m a woman so my board is 152 and typically is smaller than most bags. Would you say the Db bag makes more sense than the Dakine Low Roller or Burton Wheelie Gig?

Thank you for the interesting review and the great pictures! One question: How does the Douchebag Ski bag compare to Dakines Fall Line Double Skibag (190)? I am looking for a bag for air travel (2 pair of skis). So one of my main concerns is proper protection for the skis. The Db seems to offer only light protection, but your review sounded as if you were satisfied.

Hans – I have the Dakine fall line double and just received the Douchebag Slim Jim. (it’s the single ski version of the bag). It’s awesome. I think it will work great. But, there is definitely less padding than the Dakine. From a protection standpoint I think the Dakine bag wins. Hope that helps.

Hi Hans, I’ve only used the Dakine Double Concourse and have not traveled with the Fall Line. It does seem like the extra weight and thickness of the Dakine bags might provide a bit more protection but I’ve slammed my gear around quite a bit with the douchebag and it’s held up well without any damage to my gear.

I bought the bag and used it for my ski trip to Jackson Hole. First impressions before the trip is there’s tons of room for your clothes. It’s light. The straps are not particularly secure. When I arrived at my destination, the bag looked like it took a beating by baggage handlers at the airport. Really disappointing. Several tears on the top and sides that I need to duct tape.

I have had one one now for 4-5 years, and it’s the best built, most durable and easiest to haul ski bag I’ve ever had. Worth every penny. Only complaint was from my wife about the name but heh she doesn’t go ski trips with me anyways. I’d highly recommend the ski bag to anyone whose seen the airlines destroy previous ski bags. These last better than the rest.

One feature that is not well thought out is the zipper length. Going only to 3/4 of the length means it is quite impractical to fit second pair of skis, especially if the bindings or poles stay in the way. It is then practically impossible to put skis in/out while the bag is standing. If the zipper was running the full lenght – it would be much more practical.

Hi Chukko, I have regularly had 2 and even 3 pairs of skis with bindings in my Douchebag without any difficulty. Removing or adding skis while the bag is upright is not something I’ve ever tried with any ski bag but if that’s a priority for you, I can see the limitation you mentioned. best, Paul

Paul – i assume you had the bag on the floor with good access from all sides when packing the skis in, right? If so, then for single “pack in-transport-pack out” it would be fine, but i use bags mostly for car storage/protection. It is easier put all the skis in the first time, but when i take one pair out, then i struggle quite a lot when i try to put it back in. It works again when i take everything out and back in (but this is not so nice in a trunk full of stuff).

It is a bit frustrating as i have several basic ski bags and they all can be opened fully. I like all the other features of the DB – except for that inexplicably short zipper – which is killing it for me. And i dont see and drawback of having the full zipper – you would be able to pack even more stuff if it was fully opened.

I’d pay extra to have a Douchebag bag with the name properly spelled out! :-)

I bought a Douchebag ski bag and boot bag. After two uses the seams came apart. I don’t think this brand is good quality and they don’t have good customer service.

A great idea, poorly executed. Bad customer service to boot.

Pros: 1) Bag is very light, 2) the rollup feature definitely works (for both storage and keeping the bag rigid)

Cons: 1) Bag is toast after just 3 trips (ribs poked through the sides); 2) shoulder strap doesn’t work (bag ends up banging your hip which, thanks to the sharp ribs, actually hurts) 3) Customer service – where to begin? Although they replied to me quickly, each email contained a different version of “this must have been your fault. What did you do wrong?” When I’d clearly established that I’d done nothing wrong and this was a defect issue, they just stopped replying.

Summary: Another company needs to steal this idea and build the bag properly

Note: I sold my Dakine Fall Line Double to buy this bag. The Dakine lasted me 9 years and was in perfect shape when I sold it – thus, I’m 100% certain that it wasn’t my fault that the Douchebag broke.

CORRECTION — Patagonia IS producing the Black Hole Snow Roller double-ski and snowboard bag in two colors and two size lengths (190cm and 167cm). Highly recommended.

These wheeled bags are pricey but well-made and convenient to travel with — particularly when paired with any Black Hole duffel, which hook onto the top. My wife and I find our Snow Rollers / Black Hole duffels invaluable when schlepping lots of ski gear solo through airports. (Note that most airlines count a ski bag plus a ski boot bag — such as the duffel — as one checked item.)

http://www.patagonia.com/product/black-hole-snow-roller-190cm/49290.html?dwvar_49290_color=ANDB&cgid=luggage-black-hole-bags#tile-9=&start=1&sz=24

My Douche Bag has failed after just six trips. The company has also stiff armed me blaming the failure on the airlines. Here is the issue: The nylon on the bottom of the bag is not sturdy enough, and the sewn in cross bars create natural points of high stress. Abrasion on the bottom of any luggage, especially a ski bag is a fact of life, especially for checked bags. I have Tumi bags with over a million miles of travel on them and Dakine ski bags with many years of travel and no issues. Its a design flaw, its fixable and its a clever bag otherwise. Too bad Douche Bag wishes to conduct themselves in this fashion, so buyers beware.

A complement to the folks at Douche Bag. I have the ski bag and noted to them that the fabric on the bottom was not holding up after only six trips, and suggested they rethink the design a bit. The bottom of any ski bag is subject to a lot of abrasion over time. The Douche bag has plastic cross beams sewn in and while these add strength they also cause a stress point for the fabric.

After a few rounds of photos and emails the company agreed to replace my bag. Happy for that and hope they keep tweaking what is a very good product.

Do you think that hauling might work as well with patagonia black hole wheeled 120l bag?

Future of Airports in India: DigiYatra for International Travel, Coming Soon

Peden Doma Bhutia , Skift

May 27th, 2024 at 7:33 AM EDT

Turning international travel into “a walk in the park” may take time, but wouldn't it be nice to skip those endless queues at airport gates, airline counters, immigration, and security checks? DigiYatra has made domestic travel a smoother ride. If rolled out for international travel, we could all breathe a little easier!

Peden Doma Bhutia

India is actively working on expanding the DigiYatra facility for international travel. The DigiYatra Foundation expects to start prototype testing on e-passport based enrollment from next month, the CEO of DigiYatra Foundation, Suresh Khadakbhavi, said recently at an event in Saudi Arabia.

What Is DigiYatra? This digital initiative, aimed at revolutionizing airport check-ins, uses a mobile app that allows passengers to use facial recognition as a boarding pass.

When Was This Launched? Launched on December 1, 2022, at three airports — New Delhi, Varanasi, and Bengaluru — DigiYatra has swiftly expanded its footprint, now operating in 14 airports across India and set to launch in another 14 next month.

Now, DigiYatra for International Travel

The next frontier for DigiYatra is international travel.

AIrport entry queues and ID / ticket checks – India is the only major country I am aware of that requires this. Wonder if there is a way forward that does not require this bottleneck. Digiyatra helps for the digitally-savvy, but is not there for International yet pic.twitter.com/wjJRYV0GkK — Sanjiv Kapoor (@TheSanjivKapoor) May 26, 2024

The integration of chip-enabled e-passports into the app is a crucial step, enabling verifiable credentials for foreign travelers.

Speaking at the Future Aviation Forum in Riyadh last week, Khadakbhavi said the prototype testing will progress significantly in the coming months, although the DigiYatra Foundation must collaborate with the Bureau of Immigration and the Ministry of External Affairs, indicating a potentially lengthy process.

IATA’s One-ID

The DigiYatra Foundation, co-owned by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and private airports, also plans to align with International Air Transport Association (IATA)’s One-ID initiative for global interoperability. This initiative, backed by the IATA, representing around 320 airlines in over 120 countries, seeks to streamline passenger journeys through biometric-enabled identification.

Travelers prioritize speed and convenience and are increasingly embracing biometrics, according to IATA’s 2023 Global Passenger Survey.

Croatia, the Netherlands and Canada are testing digital travel. Finland last year launched the world’s first digital travel document pilot program at Helsinki Airport.

“Passengers want technology to work harder, so that they spend less time ‘being processed’, standing in queues. And they are willing to use biometric data if it delivers this result. But we need cooperation across the value chain and with governments to make it happen with secure technology that is available today,” said Nick Careen, IATA’s senior vice president for operations, safety and security.

DigiYatra Vision

DigiYatra’s vision extends beyond airports as it looks to facilitate hotel check-ins and provide hassle-free access to public places.

Over the past year, more than 20 million users have experienced DigiYatra, and with its forthcoming availability at 28 airports, the service will cover approximately 90% of India’s flying population, according to Khadakbhavi.

With the use of face as a single token, passengers can just walk through every process giving them an experience of a “walk in the park,” he said.

Khadakbhavi said a key feature of DigiYatra is its emphasis on self-sovereign identity, which ensures that passenger data is not stored centrally. “The self-sovereign identity base is something which perhaps people can easily adopt,” he explained, emphasizing the need for bilateral agreements to share credentials between nations.

He cited the European Union’s digital identity framework as a successful example of this concept.

Challenges and Privacy

Despite its advancements, DigiYatra faces challenges, particularly in educating passengers about the privacy and security of self-sovereign identity—a complex but crucial aspect of the system. Recently, DigiYatra performed what it calls “a significant backend upgrade,” and asked users to install a new app. This had led to speculation about a potential data breach .

However, the foundation clarified that the upgrade was in preparation for the upcoming expansion to additional airports.

Digi Yatra’s old app had over 4.5 million users while according to the foundation the new app already has over 2 million users.

Looking ahead, DigiYatra plans to implement fully homomorphic encryption, a feature that ensures third parties cannot misuse data shared with airports. Explaining the homomorphic encryption, Khadakbhavi said that once the airport uses data shared by the passenger no one else would be able to open the data for a second time, preventing further misuse.

“If you want to look at an implementation of self-sovereign identity at scale and volume, we are the biggest,” Suresh asserted, highlighting the system’s growing adoption rate, which stands at around 30-40% at major airports, with some Indian airports seeing up to 50% usage.

In the next decade, DigiYatra envisions a single-process airport where passengers can walk straight to the boarding gate, with all processes handled seamlessly in the background. “This future is achievable with the use of technology; however, we need to change our perspective to fully utilize it,” he said.

Stop a Douchebag, Russia’s Civility Heroes, Cut Off by Ministry of Justice

The popular traffic activist group was caught off guard by the government decision that froze its funds.

Katie Zavadski

A Moscow court has stripped Russian traffic activist group Stop a Douchebag of its registration and federal funding on orders from the Ministry of Justice last week, the Russian news site Fontanka reported on Wednesday, effectively “liquidating” the group. The self-anointed traffic police lost their good standing because of a failure to submit paperwork the state requires of recognized social organizations.

Stop a Douchebag is a popular movement of young men who confront violators of traffic rules on the street—often loudly, unapologetically, and self-righteously, as The Daily Beast reported in May . Run a stoplight or drive on the curb to escape notorious Moscow traffic and you might find a flailing young man on your windshield, trying to block your line of sight with giant stickers that read “I spit on everyone, I drive where I want.”

ski douchebag travel

They film their exploits to publicly shame drivers, attract police attention, and achieve Internet stardom.

“On almost every raid, my friends or I get knocked down. So if someone give me trauma—a bruise, or dirty clothes, but as long as contact between me and the car happened—that person should be punished,” the group’s “Driving on Sidewalks” director, Maruan Mukhamed, told The Daily Beast in May.

He said only a few of the videos make it online, “so that when people watch the video, they see that you can’t behave like that.”

Videos shot by the group—whose name might be more accurately translated as “stop a cad”—have been watched millions of times in Russia and around the world, reaching English-language viewers with subtitled clips. It’s spawned offshoots in cities from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok.

The group first registered as a legal entity in 2013 in order to be eligible for nonprofit grants. Fontanka reports the group has been taking in federal money ever since: 4 million rubles in 2013, 6 million rubles in 2014, and 8 million (which comes to just over $100,000) in 2015.

Тhe law governing registration of social organizations has a hefty paperwork requirement, and failure to meet it can lead to punishment. The group was flagged for failing to meet the guidelines in October.

A source close to the Kremlin told Gazeta.ru, however, that the reality is the government was just fed up. While the youthful activists were initially helpful in dealing with traffic violations and arrogant drivers, that source said, they quickly became a source of frustration and an unnecessary distraction.

But leader Dmitry Chugunov told Fontanka he was surprised by news his organization had been sanctioned, and said that his attorneys would be seeking access to leftover 2015 funds, which are frozen.

And the strict rules he has for drivers on the road don’t quite apply when it comes to his group’s paperwork.

“If we can’t restore our registration, we can create a different legal entity,” he told Fontanka.
