KANEOHE BAY SANDBAR

Location of Kane'ohe bay Sandbar

In the northeast of Oahu lies Kane’ohe bay, home to a stunning sandbar that stretches for 8 mile in width and 2.5 mile in length.

Located in the middle of Hawai’i's only barrier reef-protected bay, the Kaneʻohe Bay Sandbar is an ideal spot to discover Hawai’i's diverse waters.

You can reach this natural wonder by taking a 10-minute boat trip from the Heeia Kea Pier , which is about 40 minutes by car from Waikiki.

The sandbar is nestled within a coral reef that protects it from the waves and creates clear and calm waters. The reef is also a habitat for many colorful fish and sea turtles.

Captain Bruce is the first company to offer Kaneʻohe Bay Sandbar Tours on O’ahu, starting in 1983. Join us for a family-friendly and fun ocean activity in the calm and shallow waters of the bay!

A must do for adventure seekers with a strong stomach.  This tour will take you on a ride to remember traveling across endless shifting sand you will see unique tree islands from the ancient forest, a view of the Siuslaw River and sometimes wildlife!

Important Warnings:

• Sandrail tours are not for people with vertebrae issues, health concerns or have problems with motion sickness.
• Maximum weight limit of 300 lbs.  Our buggies are built to take 7 average sized people under 200 lbs.  If you have above average sized people in your group, you may be asked to pay for an extra seat/seats depending on the average weight of your reservation.
• This tour is recommended for adventure seekers who enjoy rides.  You will be riding with others and we are unable to slow the tour down.
• Pregnant women are not allowed on Sandrail tours but can take the Giant Buggy tour if not under doctor’s restrictions.
• DRESS WARMLY ON TOURS.  We run our tours rain or shine so come prepared for the weather!  A hooded coat or sweatshirt, long pants and closed toed shoes are recommended.  Our average temperatures with wind chill can be as low as 50 degrees.  The forecast is unreliable.
• Car keys, wallets, cell phones and valuables should be secured in a zippered pocket. We are not responsible for lost items.
• Great photo opportunities but protect your camera from blowing sand.  There is always a chance you will get sand in your camera, even if you’re careful.
• Allow plenty of drive time for road construction, bridge work and 35 mph traffic.  You may miss your tour if your late.  No Refunds.

See rare black sand beaches, walk through a lava tube, visit the famous Kona Coffee Farm, and the magnificent Volcanoes National Park, finish the adventure with stargazing near Mauna Kea.

Experience the Big Island’s most spectacular natural splendors on this small-group tour with a professional local guide sharing knowledge of the history, cultures, and geology of the island.

Enjoy a fully narrated adventure that starts with a stop at a Kona Coffee Farm. Walk through the orchards with your guide learning about the harvesting and milling process while sampling a warm cup of Kona-grown coffee.

Continue the leisurely drive and pass the scenic view of the Kealakekua Bay and South Point, the southernmost point of the United State, then relax and take it all in at Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, a great place to spot marine life from the shore, like Hawaii’s green sea turtles.

In the afternoon, visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park with a trip around the Chain of Craters Road, for the “mountain to sea” experience. Various stops are made to view magnificent volcanic eruption, and flow sites of the past, the beautiful park coastline, and the remarkable Thurston Lava Tube. In addition, your certified tour guide provides an educational and insightful narrative about the volcanoes as you visit Kilauea Iki Lookout, steam vents, Halema’uma’u Crater, and crater rim trail.

After enjoying a sit-down dinner at a local restaurant near the park, your guide will take you to a secluded and ideal location for stargazing near Mauna Kea, depending on weather condition, you will observe stars, planets, galaxies, moon, and much more while your guide shares interesting legend and lore of the sky.

• Dip your toes in the sand at Punalu’u Black Sand Beach and scan the horizon for green sea turtles on the shore
• Visit the stunning display of the dynamic natural wonders in the Volcanoes National Park including the Thurston Lava Tube
• Observe stars, planets, and galaxies under the pristine night sky near Mauna Kea, weather permitting.
• Professional guide sharing knowledge of the history, cultures, and geology of the island.

Bento lunch consists of teriyaki chicken, fish, vegetables, and steamed rice with assorted juices, snacks, and bottled water. In addition, all park entrance fees, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and rain gear. Bring a swimsuit, wear comfortable summer clothing. Covered walking shoes are recommended.

Full price will be charged for cancellations and “no shows” unless we receive prior notice: One to five guests – 24 hours; Six or more guests – 48 hours; Private charters – 72 hours.

How much hiking do we do? A: We will have a couple of easy hikes over a short distance on this tour. The total distance is no more than a mile

Will we get to see active lava? A: Due to the dynamic nature of active volcanoes, lava viewing conditions change daily or even hourly. The best viewing of current eruptive activity is on our Twilight Volcano Tour. We will do our best to get you to the closest viewing area providing it is safe and legal.

Mac Wood was a very interesting character. He was always thinking of new ways to do things. When he was the operator of Flora-Dale Resort, he would have to come up with interesting ways to entertain the guests, and the Dune Scooter Ride was one of these ventures.

These rides started in 1930. It was entertainment for Mac and the family at first. However, neighbors and persons passing by were so interested in his discovery that they talked Mac into making dune scootering a business.

LE MERAVIGLIE DELLA GIORDANIA Giorno 1: Accoglienza ed Assistenza in arrivo all'aeroporto Internazionale Queen Alia, assistenza per le pratiche per il Visto e dopo partenza verso Amman. Check-in in hotel, cena e pernottamento. Giorno 2: Amman Giorno Libero Colazione in hotel. Giornata libera ad Amman. Cena e pernottamento in hotel. Giorno 3: Amman – Jerash – Ajlun – Giro Città di Amman - Amman Dopo colazione partiremo verso Jerash, la Pompei dell'Est. Entreremo attraverso la Porta Monumentale Sud e ci ritroveremo dentro una città Romana. Cammineremo nella Piazza Ovale circondata da colonne, visiteremo il Teatro Romano e le Chiese Bizantine con la pavimentazione a mosaico. Vedrete di persona come i Romani costruirono le colonne antisismiche della strada colonnata. Dopo partiremo verso Ajloun, un castello Islamico militare usato dale truppe islamiche di Saladino per proteggere la regione contro i crociati. Ritorno ad Amman per esplorare la capitale, città conosciuta da circa 100 anni, chiamata Rabbat Ammoun; visita de La Cittadella, le Rovine Romane e del Teatro Romano situato nel centro attivo del Vecchio Souq. Cena e pernottamento in hotel ad Amman. Giorno 4: Amman - Madaba - Nebo - Strada dei Re - Shoubak – Petra Dopo colazione partiremo verso Madaba, una delle chiese più spettacolari al mondo; la Chiesa di St. Giorgio dove si trova il pavimento decorato a Mosaico con la Mappa di Gerusalemme. Dopo andremo al Monte Nebo, il luogo dove Mosè venne sepolto. Se siete fortunati e il cielo sarà limpido, si avrà la possibilità di di avere una visuale straordinaria sulla Valle del Giordano, il Mar Morto e Gerico dall'altra sponda del fiume Giordano. Si continua poi verso la Strada dei Re per visitare Shoubak ed il magnifico castello crociato di Montreal. Successivamente si prosegue verso Petra, per la cena ed il pernottamento in hotel. Giorno 5: Petra (giornata intera di visita) Dopo colazione partiremo verso Petra. Non esiste una visita completa della Giordania, senza visitare la capitale dell'antico regno Nabateo, Petra. La città perduta di Petra, scavata interamente dall'uomo tra le montagne rosa-rosse, mette a dura prova l'immaginazione. Le ricchezze naturali delle montagne, si combinano con la cultura e l'architettura Nabatea, che lavorarono i loro teatri, templi, facciate, tombe, monasteri, case e strade nella roccia rosa. L'UNESCO ha inserito la città nella lista del Patrimonio Mondiale, con il Siq, una gola profonda e stretta, dove alla fine appare il famoso monumento di Petra: al-Khazneh o il Tesoro. Potete riconoscerlo nella scena finale del film "Indiana Jones e l'ultima Crociata". Ma il Tesoro è solo l'inizio... Rientro in hotel per la cena e il pernottamento. Giorno 6: Petra – Piccola Petra – Wadi Rum (02 h 4x4) – Amman Dopo colazione partiremo verso la Piccola Petra. A differenza di Petra, nella quale i Nabatei vivevano e seppellivano i propri morti, Piccola Petra fu pensata per ospitare le carovane provenienti dall'Arabia e dall'Oriente, che andavano sino in Siria ed in Egitto. Per poterli far sostare dopo la traversata del Wadi Rum, i Nabatei scavarono prima delle piccole grotte nella roccia arenaria, arrivando poi a costruirne di grandiose per il numero di carovanieri che vi sostavano. Proseguiremo verso il Wadi Rum, antico luogo di passaggio delle carovane che, cariche di merce preziosa, dalla penisola arabica si spostavano verso nord per raggiungere i porti del Mediterraneo. La sua bellezza è caratterizzata da montagne segnate dal tempo, da letti di antichi laghi oramai prosciugati e da altissime dune di color rosso intenso. In questi luoghi un ricercatore italiano, il professor Borzatti, ha ritrovato dei reperti del più antico alfabeto che si conosca, il Tamudico, che risale a 6.000 anni fa. Numerose inoltre sono le incisioni e le pitture rupestri scolpite nelle rocce della famosa "valle della luna". Possibilità di effettuare l'escursione in Jeep 4x4 per 2 ore. Partenza verso Amman, cena e pernottamento in hotel. Giorno 7: Amman – Mar Morto – Amman Dopo colazione partiremo verso il Mar Morto, il punto più basso della terra, con I suoi 423 metri sotto il livello del mare. Giornata libera sul Mar Morto che si trova sulla frontiera occidentale della Giordania. L'acqua salata ed insolitamente ricca di minerali, fanghi e sorgenti minerali termali, sono la guarigione del corpo e dello spirito. Continueremo poi verso Amman per la cena e pernottamento in hotel. Giorno 8: Amman – Amman Aeroporto Dopo colazione incontro in hotel con i nostri assistenti che vi porteranno all'aeroporto internazionale Queen Alia per la partenza. Keep your eyes open on the way through the marine sanctuary for dolphins and sea turtles (although not guaranteed) on your way to an exciting guided kayak tour through the legendary mangrove islands of The Mud Keys. He took us to the most beautiful sandbar, where we saw stingray, Sea Biscuits and Conchs. He found these items for us to view and observe and answered all of our questions clearly. Took the cruise in late June in near perfect weather so we were able to fully enjoy the sea caves and lighthouse cruise on the catamaran. The captain provided a lot of narration that was informative and fun. Lots of Dad-worthy jokes. The scenery was beautiful and it was nice to learn about the various islands as we passed by. Saw two lighthouses and the captain was good to turn the boat around so people on both sides could get good views and picture. The sea caves were fascinating to see.

Stunning Secret Lair art cards have dropped into MTG Pro Tour 2025 season

Wizards of the Coast has tapped into the portfolio of popular artists for the Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour promo cards for the 2024-2025 season, featuring Secret Lair-style artwork .

The 2024-2025 MTG Pro Tour season will have double the Regional Championships for the US region, increasing it from one to two. Promo cards for the upcoming season have adapted a Secret Lair-style of artwork on Magic cards like Sesoned Pyromancer, Sleight of Hand, Supreme Verdict, and Nexus of Fate . And the artwork is stunning, even if the text is hard to read on some of the MTG Pro Tour promo cards.  

How to get MTG Pro Tour 2024-2025 season promo cards

The first US Pro Tour Regional Championship will take place at SCG CON from Oct. 4 to 6. The prize promo card for the tournament is Seasoned Pyromancer, illustrated by Jack Teagle . All participants will get a non-foil version, while top finishers will also get a traditional foil variant. 

Also taking place this fall are Regional Championship MTG Pro Tour qualifiers (RCQ) that feature two promo cards: Supreme Verdict and Sleight of Hand . Players competing in RCQ tournaments at the Wizard Play Network (WPN) stores will get a non-foil version of Sleight of Hand, illustrated by Helvetica Blanc . Top finishers will get a non-foil copy of Supreme Verdict, illustrated by Stephen Andrade . And all players who qualify for the second MTG Pro Tour Regional Championship will receive a foil copy of Supreme Verdict. 

The second MTG Pro Tour Regional Championship for the 2024-2025 season doesn’t have an exact date yet but is slated to take place between Jan. and March. All competitors will get a non-foil Nexus of Fate promo card, illustrated by Sophy Hollington . And top finishers will also earn a traditional foil copy. 

What does the MTG community think about the Secret Lair promo cards?

Reviews of the 2024-2025 Pro Tour promo cards are mixed from the MTG community. Most feel the art on the cards is more important than being able to read the text, as the resale value of Secret Lair art styles is most often higher than regular versions. As gameplay pieces, though, some players find it difficult to justify the wild styles of art and text. 

“I don’t love these kinds of bizarre-looking cards, but I do feel that if they’re going to do them then instants and sorceries are the best card types to do them on, since the caster will announce them and they don’t hang out on the battlefield confusing people after that, said a Reddit user . 

Despite the mixed reviews, Secret Lair drops have seen a huge amount of success over the last year or two, so it would make sense for WotC to continue to capitalize on that style of art through promo card promotions. Cyndi Lauper wants all the girls to have fun with her one final time this fall.

The iconic singer will head out on her “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour” beginning on Oct. 18 in Montreal and will wrap up on Dec. 5 in Chicago .

While on tour, Lauper will perform in New York City at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 30 .

If you are a Chase cardholder , you can access the Chase Lounge in MSG where you can hang out up to 2 hours before watching any sports game or concert.

The lounge is newly renovated and spots fill up fast, so you have to reserve your spot on the Chase website . You must register early for this perk — up to one month in advance — for reservations that are available on a first come, first served basis.

Throughout the tour, special guests will join Lauper on stage, but they will be revealed at a later date.

Alongside the tour announcement, Lauper also announced a feature-length documentary exploring her life and career titled “Let the Canary Sing.” The film is set to release on Paramount+ on June 4.

As this is her first major tour in over a decade — and officially her final one — tickets are more than likely going to fly off the market.

There will be several tour presales before the general sale and they are set to begin on June 4 at 10 a.m. and wrap up on June 6 at 10 p.m. through Ticketmaster .

A promoter presale will begin on June 5 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster . To access this presale, fans can select their preferred Cyndi Lauper tour date and seating type. Next, use presale code CHORD to make the presale ticket purchase.

Belmont Stakes 2024 predictions, picks, current odds, horses, time: Best bets from expert who hit the Derby

Kentucky Derby runner-up Sierra Leone will attempt to deliver trainer Chad Brown his first victory in the Test of the Champion when he leaves the starting gate in the 2024 Belmont Stakes on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course. The 45-year-old Brown has won the Eclipse Award as the nation's Most Outstanding Trainer four times, but he is 0-for-3 in the Belmont Stakes. Brown will try to end the drought with Sierra Leone, the 9-5 favorite in the 2024 Belmont Stakes odds. The talented but lightly raced Mindframe (7-2), Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan (5-1) and Preakness Stakes winner Seize the Grey (8-1) round out the top four choices among the 10 Belmont Stakes horses.

Post time is 6:41 p.m. ET. With an accomplished field set to enter the starting gate on Saturday, you'll want to  see what SportsLine writer Gene Menez has to say before making any Belmont Stakes picks or horse racing predictions, given the success he's had during this year's Triple Crown .

Davis Stakes, and the trifecta in the Jenny Wiley Stakes. He also nailed National Treasure's win in the Preakness. And last month, he gave out 18-1 Mystik Dan as a live longshot in the Kentucky Derby.

The longshot Kentucky Derby winner was unable to add the second leg of the Triple Crown three weeks ago, finishing second to Seize the Grey in the Preakness. Soon after the race trainer Ken McPeek directed him to Saratoga for the Belmont.

But Menez thinks Mystik Dan may be heading in the wrong direction. His Preakness Beyer Speed Figure (97) was worse than his Derby's (100), and on Saturday he will be making his third start in five weeks. "I think Mystik Dan will be hard-pressed to produce another top-notch effort," Menez told SportsLine. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss are equal parts ribbing and respect ahead of summer tour

You might not expect a comedy routine during a conversation with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss .

But the rock 'n' roll lion and the bluegrass chanteuse who became an unlikely musical pair 17 years ago with their rootsy collaboration “ Raising Sand ” are relaxed, playful and exceptionally respectful of each other.

And very funny.

In a joint interview a few days before the June 2 launch of another summer of touring behind “ Raise the Roof, ” their 2021 acclaimed follow-up to the Grammy-winning “Raising Sand,” the pair begin by disagreeing about when their last tour ended (it was July) and tease each other while answering how they might change the set list for this run of dates.

“We haven’t started yet, but we have 39 shows. so I think we’ll consolidate and play to our strengths initially,” Plant says.

“And then we’ll play to our weaknesses,” Krauss jokes.

“See what I’m dealing with?” Plant responds with mock exasperation.

For 25 minutes, the pair banter about aging (he is 75, she 52), why sleep is “crucial” while touring and the art of harmonizing.

“I’m trying my best to learn how to get it right,” Plant, one of the mightiest singers in rock history , says with discernable humbleness.

Question: What have you both been doing since getting off the road last year?

Robert Plant: I’ve been very busy following my north star and reaching into the great old world of R&B for songs I might do something with down the road. And watching football (soccer).

Alison Krauss: I’ve been watching documentaries about The Mothman. And have been in the studio with Union Station working on a new album.

What is it like making the shift from touring with Robert to going back into the studio?

Krauss: It’s much more laid-back with Robert. The studio has its own unpleasantness, and it’s a much more relaxed environment here. I can’t believe I get to do both.

Plant: You have a lot more notes to worry about in that band. I’ve learned a lot in my time around Alison and the world that comes with her, and it’s been a spectacle of charm, politeness and peach cobblers.

You mean, Southern?

Plant: Yes! You do a studio session in Nashville and you have to make your way through the baked goods. In England it’s much more rough and ready. The people in Nashville, there is a standard and quality and texture there.

You’ve had these songs out on the road the past couple of summers. What has changed in either the setlist or your approach to the music?

Krauss: All of these songs, they turn into something else the longer you live with them − like I wish we would have recorded it this way or phrased it like that. When you sing the same song (live), the stories change.

Is your rapport deep enough now that you can look at each other onstage and know the song is going somewhere?

Krauss: I know when he looks at me he’s going somewhere, but I don’t know where.

Plant: I never sang harmony in Led Zeppelin except for “Thank You.” I really didn’t know about singing with another person. I do believe that Henry “The Horse” (Smith), our guitar roadie, and Jimmy (Page) sang the harmonies with me on that one. But I loved listening to what Alison sang.

Robert, do you think if you hadn’t connected with Alison a couple of decades ago, that you would have stayed in music?

Plant: I’ve been really fortunate because it was such a formative time in my life when Led Zeppelin came to a screeching halt and I had to keep moving and find a new place to do what I do and challenge myself. … This woman sitting next to me is manna from heaven.

You’re also going on tour with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. Are you technically the opening act?

Plant: I think they’re doing ice cream sundaes and hot dogs when we play. But I do think there is one person on before us. Regardless, I’m proud to be standing next to Alison before the master (Dylan) takes the stage.

Alison, tell me about your friendship with Def Leppard since you sang on a couple of songs on their "Diamond Star Halos" album.

Krauss: All of the bluegrass-ers love Def Leppard. Their harmonies, the way they would blend. It was so incredible to do those songs. They were so generous and nice.

Plant: So different than Robert (laughs).

Krauss: Right, not like Robert. I said they were so generous and nice (laughs). It was a fantasy. There are plenty of people who grew up playing the kind of music I did and fantasized about playing a (rock) part.

There are always a few reconstructed Led Zeppelin songs in your show. Robert, do you enjoy doing them or is it more obligatory?

Plant: I love them and am very proud of them, and to get to change them around and to hear that voice next to me, it allows for an exotic overview of the more dramatic elements. At times I’m emotional about it because I’m hearing these songs – they are all beautiful adaptations that I could never have dreamt. It’s a great achievement.

Since it’s been almost a year since you last toured, do you have to do anything health-wise to get ready?

Krauss: Just sleep.

Plant: Sleep is crucial. Having jet lag, that’s a crippler. You’ll be awake at 4 a.m. sending notes to people, thinking "Should I read a book for awhile? No, go to sleep!"

Have you discussed any future recordings together so it won’t be another 14 years between albums?

Plant: Time is a funny thing, isn’t it? Alison is going back on the bluegrass trail, so I guess if she wants me back, she can give me a call.

UN says 27% of the world’s children under 5 suffer severe food poverty

The 9-month-old twins cried nonstop and tugged at their mother, seeking attention but also food. They had received little in the past 24 hours, and there were signs of deeper hunger in the heads too big for their tiny bodies.

“Not much milk comes out,” said their 38-year-old mother, Dorcas Simon, who struggles to breastfeed and has three other children. She laughed, as if to conceal the pain. “What will I give them when I don’t have food myself?”

Here in northern Nigeria, where  conflict  and  climate change  have long contributed to the problem, her twins are among 181 million children under 5 — or 27% of the world’s youngest children — who live in  severe food poverty , according to a new report Thursday by the U.N.’s children agency.

The report, which focused on nearly 100 low- and middle-income countries, defines severe food poverty as consuming nothing in a day or, at best, two out of eight food groups the agency recognizes.

Africa’s population of more than 1.3 billion people is one of the most affected mainly due to conflict,  climate crises  and  rising food prices . The continent accounts for one-third of the global burden and 13 of the 20 most affected countries.

But it has also recorded some progress, the report said.

The percentage of children living in severe food poverty in West and Central Africa fell from 42% to 32% over the last decade, it said, noting advances including diversified crops and performance-based incentives for health workers.

In the absence of vital nutrients, children living with “extremely poor” diets are more likely to experience wasting, a life-threatening form of malnutrition, the agency known as UNICEF said.

“When wasting becomes very severe, they are 12 times more likely to die,” Harriet Torlesse, one of the report’s authors, told The Associated Press.

In several Nigerian communities like Kaltungo in the northeast where Simon lives, UNICEF is training thousands of women in how to boost their families’ nutrient intake with cassava, sweet potato, maize and millet grown in gardens at home.

More than a dozen women gathered this week in Kaltungo’s Poshereng village to learn dozens of recipes they can prepare with those foods which, in the absence of rain, are grown in sand-filled sacks that require little water.

Mothers in Nigeria also face the country’s  worst cost of living crisis . Growing food at home saves money.

Aisha Aliyu, a 36-year-old mother of five, said her latest child “used to be skinny but is growing fatter” because of what they now grow at home. Hauwa Bwami, a 50-year-old mother of five, nearly lost her grandchild to kwashiorkor, a disease with severe protein malnutrition, before the UNICEF training started a year ago. Now she grows enough food that she sells to other women.

Kaltungo is in a semi-arid agricultural region where climate change has limited rainfall in recent years. Some children have died of acute malnutrition in the past because food is scarce, said Ladi Abdullahi, who trains the women.

The training “is like answered prayers for me,” Simon said in her first time with the group.

But it can be a painful lesson. Another trainee, Florence Victor, 59, watched helplessly as her nine-month-old grandchild succumbed to malnutrition in 2022.

Malnutrition also can weaken the immune system over time, leaving children vulnerable to diseases that can kill.

In the Sahel, the semiarid region south of the Sahara Desert which is a  hot spot for violent extremism , there has been an increase in acute malnutrition — worse than severe food poverty — that has reached emergency levels, said Alfred Ejem, senior food security advisor with the Mercy Corps aid group in Africa.

Because of displacement and climate change, families have resorted to “bad coping mechanisms like eating leaves and locusts just to survive,” Ejem said.

In conflict-hit Sudan,  children are dying  of severe malnutrition in large numbers.

In Nigeria’s troubled northwest, the French medical organization Doctors Without Borders said at least 850 children died last year within 24 to 48 hours of being admitted to its health facilities.

“We are resorting to treating patients on mattresses on the floor because our facilities are full,” Simba Tirima, MSF’s Nigeria representative, said Tuesday.

Many malnourished children in the region never make it to a hospital because they live in remote areas or their families cannot afford care.

Inequality also plays a role in severe food poverty among children in Africa, the new report said. In South Africa, the  most unequal country in the world , roughly one in every four children is affected by severe food poverty even though it is the continent’s most developed nation.

Governments and partners must act urgently, author Torlesse said: “The work starts now.”
