Easily one of the highlights of our trip! We really hesitated in renting because of reviews online and the shops seemed to not push you to rent if you were uncomfortable, rather they continuously asked if you've driven before and warn you of the safety of it. I had only been on a Vespa twice before so choosing the 50cc was the best choice for me and my friend. The scariest thing is not driving the machine but navigating it through traffic. And I only say scary to those that are hesitant drivers. Italiens have places to go and be so drive with the flow of traffic and make sure you know where you're going and GO! The owners were really really kind and helpful and answered all the questions we had. I intend on visiting Rome again and I will 100% rent from the same business if I have the opportunity!

I have used this place 4 times over the last couple years and have finally had enough. Originally, I thought their representations were "accidental" but they consistently have issues with (1) availability of the product you reserve - when you show up they tend to have less powerful models that do not have enough power to move with traffic in busy Rome; (2) their equipment is older and god knows they do not even disinfect their helmets so bring your own or don't rent from them in the Covid-19 age; and (3) when they say they will credit you for the issues, don;t count on it. They wouldn't honor it with me and Visa would not even address the issues because the company makes you sign their agreement which then negates the ability to contest charges with Visa. As an alternative another disgruntled customer let me know of another company that is right by the Termini station. i tried them and I like them a lot. They have a better selection and are reasonably forgiving if you are a few minutes late to return as it can sometimes be hard to meander your way around Rome's streets. Best part, they are only about 1/2 mile from "My Vespa". If you search scooter rentals termini you should find the other place.

Do you want to see Rome from a unique perspective? You'll want to rent a Vespa! It's the most beautiful and memorable way to experience the eternal city. Regardless if you've been to Rome before or not it is a different way to see it. You'll never get stuck in traffic as you take this spectacular ride through the major highlights in Rome! The staff was welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly. They offer private tours or several different types of pricing options to book a Vespa for yourself. We chose the 24-hour package, and it gave us plenty of time to see the city. Regarding pricing, we did not shop around, but we came across many curious onlookers asking us how much we paid. However, a local told us that it was overpriced. It's never a fun feeling to hear that you paid too much. When you put it in perspective, we are tourists in a major city, and the prices will vary. All of the equipment provided was relatively new and in excellent condition. I would recommend bringing a hat or helmet sock when using their helmets.

Our tour guide was awesome! Knew so much about Rome and it's history. Let us design where and what we wanted to see and showed us gems of the city! I fell off my Vespa (I was being careless) and he didn't make me feel like an idiot. He was kind and helpful and we continued our tour. Plan to book these guys again!

We rented a 125cc scooter for 1 day. After walking the city for an entire day on Saturday we decided to rent a more foot-friendly option on Sunday. We made the reservation online the night before. All went smoothly in the morning. Two helmets are included in the price and they give you a little helmut insert if you want it. I used mine. My husband did not. I felt completely stable on the back. The helmut case on the back serves as a nice back rest. I was even able to take pictures and navigate with the map while my husband drove. The staff was friendly and spoke english. Zipping around the city by scooter was definitely the way to go. Traffic was not too crazy and it seemed to be easy to find parking places near all the monuments we visited like the Colosseum, the Pantheon, Piazza de Navona, the Thermal Baths, the Circus Maximus, etc. We even zipped back to our hotel once to grab something, which was very convenient. The wind in your face on a hot humid day was a relief between stops. Beware of all the one-way roads, though. There are a lot more than I noticed when we were walking.

If you have experience riding a scooter and just want to rent one, you can probably ignore this review. If you are a newbie thinking about riding one for the first time, read on. Keep the following in mind: 1. If you are worried about damaging any equipment, they do not offer insurance options. If it happens, they might ding you with either the full cost of the minor damages or hundreds of euros in deductibles (via their insurance policy). Do not try if you're on a budget. 2. If you have a credit card from the US, most of them might not even have motorcycle insurance built in, so you might be paying a lot more for a catastrophic experience if it occurs. Review your benefits before applying. 3. If you do damage something and it's still drivable, the guy makes you drive it to his "boss' shop" in the city center for repairs (that's where I had to pay for damages). FYI, I think the operation is under the Vespa Tours umbrella based on the store front branding (but I might be wrong). Most of the time, the owner would just not allow you to touch another vehicle if you damaged it, but really? Side note: The bikes aren't the most powerful if you're looking for something that will compete with the locals as another FYI. I personally had a less-than-stellar experience as I actually fell off my scooter within the first few minutes. I felt really bad considering I not only injured my shoulder but also crashed the scooter to the curbside. I was going to walk away after paying for the damages except the owner's reaction to the whole ordeal left a really sour taste that made me regret trying this at all. After recovering from my fall, the first thing the owner does is ask if the "scooter is ok". Most other recreational attraction staff members, regardless of value, would see if the client's safety is at risk regardless of what happened, but this guy basically gave me a disgusting impression that my well being didn't matter and the body language that "it sucks to be you." That, and the fact he could not use the credit card machine correctly requiring me to file a few disputes to take a few duplicate charges off my card for something I paid in cash made the whole thing something I will never do again. The whole customer service experience is pretty much the reason why I gave this shop 1 star. The people who is going to repair the bike I crashed even handled communications more professionally despite the fact it was completely my fault and lost hundreds of euros in the process. You don't treat your clients like garbage.

We went for a night tour on a Vespa and had the best time of our lives! We had Milton as our guide and couldn't have asked for anyone better. I drive a motorcycle in the states so there was no learning curve. Traffic is far off from the US but definitely do able. We were brought to areas that were hidden gems that I feel no other tour would take you to. Amazing time. Thanks Myvespa and Milton!

I did the panoramic tour and it was a great experience from signing up to the actual tour itself. Alessandro was my vespa driver and guide. He was knowledgeable, and interspersed Roman history with contemporary life. Great sense of humor, too. Highly recommended to see Rome on a vespa with them!

We are in Rome for a wonderful vacation. After walking 7 miles each day we decided to try a scooter. We figured we rent one for the last two days. After all the paper work is completed we take the scooter out realizing the other drivers on the road are all over the place. We felt unsafe driving in a new country so took the scooter back after 20 minutes. The guy would not give us a refund for the second day because the contract did "not say it was refundable" the contract also didn't say "nonrefundable" the sales man never said it was non refundable from the beginning. He gave me an email that doesn't work to try and receive an refund. Overall it was not a pretty side of Italian hospitality.

Tour Rome on a Vespa with sidecar - Private guided tour - Duration 3 hours

my vespa tours

Ten years after the invention of the golf cart tour, here’s another fun vehicle: the vespa with sidecar! Sidecars were popular many, many years ago, it’s quite rare to see them these days, especially attached to a Vespa. This tour is a unique experience! This tour is like traveling back in time, returning to the days of Roman holidays by traveling the quaint streets of old Rome in this old-fashioned vehicle. Try it, it’s a lot of fun!

These tours start at: 10:00 Am – 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM (7:00 PM summertime). I f you’re staying anywhere withing the area highlighted in green on the map , we’ll come to meet you at your place, otherwise you’ll have to come to our office. Our office is very close to the entrance to the Vatican Museums . This is where you will meet your private guide, hop on the Vespa / sidecar, and begin your tour. The tour is customizable, to avoid overlapping or repetition, you can tell your guide which places you have already seen, and you do not need to go back to, or places you will see with other tours you have planned. However, there are areas where these internal combustion engine Vespas cannot enter, so some of the attractions and some hotels will not be accessible.

Sorry, but we don’t let our guests drive the Vespa with the sidecar attached . One person sits in the sidecar and another passenger sits on the Vespa with the driver. Your guide will be on the flagship Vespa and, at each stop, will explain what you see. Due to the noise of the Vespas engines and the traffic, storytelling on the go is virtually impossible. However, the stops are frequent, so you can be sure that you will learn a lot about Rome on this tour! When you talk about touring Rome by Vespa , everyone thinks of Audrey Hepburn and the movie Roman Holiday in which, besides riding around in a Vespa, she enjoys a nice “gelato”. You want to do that too, huh? We see no problems with this, if you want to stop for “gelato” during your tour, we’ll stop at the best parlor in Rome along the route!

Rome by vespa tour description.

The Apian Way private vespa tours starts at both 10am and 2am.If you choose the private driver’s option the Vespa tour will start in front of your hotel. In case you want to drive the Vespa scooter yourself, the pick-up location will be at our shop in front of the Colosseum. It is a beautiful trip through Rome’s countryside where you will arrive just after 10 minutes of driving your Vespa scooter from the city center! You will find yourself immersed in the Roman countryside surrounded by nature, herds of sheep and ancient Roman ruins which are located along the Appian Way.

The Appian Way Vespa tour will start at the Colosseum, known by the gladiators who fought inside, and the triumphal arch of emperor Constantine, who made Christianity the dominant religion of Rome. We will then continue by exploring the first miles of the first highway in history, the Appian way. The Appian Way was once the world’s most important road. It was the widest and largest road of its time and the most famous of all the roads that radiated from Rome towards the far ends of the Roman Empire. It was called the “Regina Viarum”, or “queen of roads” and was the reason for the famous saying “all roads lead to Rome”. The road today is remarkably well preserved, flanked on both sides by fields punctuated with monumental ruins and other vestiges of Roman and Christian history. Below the road there are tunnels going on for miles – known as the Catacombs, where the early Christians and Jews buried their dead. We will learn about the Roman geniality of road building and we will also explore another Roman invention : The Aqueducts, as we will have a chance to see the well preserved Claudian aqueduct. The tour will pass by early Roman tombs. Such as the remarkably well preserved tomb of Romulus, son of Emperor Domitian, and the famous tomb of Cecilia Metella, an infamous adulterer from ancient Rome, which tomb was transformed and used for different purposes throughout time. We will continue exploring impressive churches like ‘Domini quo Vadis’, where you will find Jesus’ footsteps and ‘Saint Sebastian beyond the walls’ church, built over the catacombs of St. Sebastian where early popes where buried and where an underground early christian church was found. Later during the day, our Appian Way Vespa tour will arrive to two Circuses (oval stadiums) of ancient Rome: The circus of Maxentius which is the best-preserved Circus of Rome, where chariot races where held. And the largest stadium ever build in the history of mankind: The Circus Maximus. We will stop for a coffee break and tell the story of Spartacus which had revolted against the Roman republic and how he was finally defeated with his army crucified for so many miles along the way. We won’t forget to explore the incredible Baths of Caracalla built 2000 years ago where you can find a greatly preserved Roman board game, and Capo di Bove, a private villa which had some impressive bathhouses owned by an ancient Roman family. We end the tour at St Sebastian Gate, one of Rome’s largest gates through the Aurelian wall which led into the ancient city of Rome. After we will bring you back to your hotel or in case you drive your own Vespa scooter, near the shop.

🛵 The 7 Best Rome Vespa Tours [2024 Reviews]

Ah, Rome: the Eternal City filled to the brim with iconic architecture, legends, stories of victory and failure, vibrant piazzas, and so much more.

It’s certainly a great time just strolling casually over the ancient cobblestone streets, but it can be a bit more challenging to see everything this way. If you really want to explore Rome perhaps the most “Italian” way possible, you need to hop on a Vespa.

I’ve decided to carefully curate a comprehensive guide of the 7 top Rome Vespa tours this year, uncovering local treasures that the majority of tourists miss. Let’s get started!

Be sure to see our reviews of Tours of the Vatican , Colosseum Tours and Tuscany Day Trips .

Best Rome Vespa Tour Reviews

1.  vespa sidecar tour with gelato and pickup.

  • Duration:  3 hours
  • Departure: Piazza di S. Marco, 48, 00186 Roma RM
  • Departure Time: 10:00 AM & 2:00 PM
  • Includes:  Driver/guide, Use of helmet, Local Taxes, Gelato, Coffee and/or Tea

I can’t think of anything more stereotypically “Italian” than some gelato and a Vespa somehow involved. With this first tour, you’ll get plenty of both while learning about the history of this incredible city up to present day.

The Vespa Sidecar Tour with Gelato and Pickup  is one of the first tours I ever did in Rome, and is one of the best ways to get the “lay of the land” quickly so you can go back and explore those that caught your attention more.

We met up with our guide in central Rome, which was very easy to access and more convenient than having to book separate transportation.

Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, and also did a fantastic job of driving us around (you’ll be either behind the driver or in a sidecar) without dealing with traffic and crazy tourist crowds.

As we drove around, we told us fascinating tales about the history and culture of Rome and how certain events shaped it.

Navigating Rome in this way was thrilling, being able to see how the centuries have developed until this point, with the contrast of new and old buildings everywhere around it.

Expand To See More See Less

We of course had to make a stop at the imposing Colosseum, where we actually parked our Vespas and took a little stroll to a breathtaking vista perfect for taking some photos and videos.

After this, we got to zip away to the Baths of Caracalla, where I got insight into the history of these huge public baths, and what their role was in society.

I had no idea that Rome had a pyramid, but we were able to see the Piramide Cestia located right in the center of Rome before heading to the beautiful Aventine Hill.

This is known as one of the “rich” neighborhoods, allowing us for time to gain some peace at the Orange Tree Garden. One of my favorite spots to see was the Circus Maximus, which is where the grand stadium that held exciting chariot races took place!

  • Duration: 3.5 hours
  • Departure: P.za della Repubblica, 41, 00184 Roma RM
  • Departure Time: 9:00 AM
  • Includes: Breakfast with traditional Cappuccino & Cornetto, Professional Licensed Guide, Professional Drivers, Headsets to hear the guide, Live commentary on board, Homologated CE Helmets with sterilized disposable head covers, Seat belt for the Sidecar’s passenger

I don’t know about you, but I love starting off my day early and just being able to have the city to “myself” and avoid the majority of tourist crowds.

With the Vespa Sidecar Tour in Rome with Cappuccino excursion, that’s exactly what happened, starting off early in the morning and ending right after lunch. With a knowledgeable, fun guide to lead the way, you can soak everything in knowing you’re in good hands!

We met up with our guide, who gave us a briefing and found a configuration that suited us well, with each motorcycle and sidecar fitting two people  plus  your driver!

This is a great activity for couples who would like to go on a more exhilarating tour where they can both sit back and relax while the guide drives around.

Thanks to the handy little headphones, we always heard what our guide was saying, even when we were traveling through particularly crowded areas.

Now, I did notice that our guide tailored our guide according to our preferences and specific interests, but everyone will get to visit 12 different attractions that cover thousands of years of Roman history!

The attractions were all so impressive, and I loved the fact that we were able to see so much more with a compact Vespa, seeing things that aren’t possible with a car.

We learned about the importance behind various places, such as the Quirinal Palace, which is 1 of 3 official residences of Italy’s president.

We couldn’t go on our tour without seeing the iconic, intricate Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps which are both favorites of locals and tourists, alike! We also passed through many different squares, learning about why each one was so special!

Seeing St. Peter’s Basilica was frankly intimidating, though featured that iconic Bernini style that I love so much. I’d choose this tour any day over watching a documentary or reading a history book, making it great for families with teenagers!

3. vespa scooter tour in rome with professional photographer.

  • Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Departure: Via del Colosseo, 31, 00184 Roma RM
  • Departure Time: Between 7:00 AM & 11:00 PM
  • Includes:  Helmet, 25 photos, Vespa scooter with Driver

I’m someone who absolutely loves having photo memories of the places that I visit, experiences I have, and dishes that I’ve tried, whenever possible.

I love going back to those photos later on and reminiscing, though there are times when photos just don’t turn out well. This is where the Vespa Scooter Tour in Rome with Professional Photographer comes in, with a pro there to make sure you get wonderful snaps of your time in the Eternal City.

This tour starts off right in front of the fabled Colosseum, where you’ll meet your guide and discuss where you’d like photos, your specific interests, and answer any questions you may have.

I feel like this excursion is the perfect balance between taking photos and cruising through the city learning about its history while on a cute little Vespa! You don’t have to even worry about driving it (which can be intimidating), as your guide will be there to lead the way!

These were hands-down the best photos I’ve ever had in front of the Colosseum, and we took a few with my vintage Vespa, making it look like I’d really fit right into the Italian background.

We also got to visit the Giardino degli Aranci, which is a serene, gorgeous public park on the rich Aventine Hill with some of the best viewpoints of the entire city (note the St. Peter’s dome which stands out above the rest).

Another fun stop we made was to take photos with the “Mouth of Truth” marble mask, where tourists take photos sticking their hand into the mouth (legend says the hands of those who dare will be bitten off).

Some of the favorite photos we took was at the stunning Piazza Venezia, which is filled with mindblowing architecture that is so quintessentially Roman. The Pantheon is aptly-named the “Temple of All the Gods”, used as a church but also served as the background for our photoshoot.

Overall, this is a wonderful way to see the city in a short amount of time while gaining some of the most wonderful mementos to take home and show off.

4. Rome by Vespa: Classic Rome Tour with Pick-up

  • Departure:  Hotel pickup and drop-off
  • Departure Time: 10:00 AM, 3:00 PM, 7:00 PM
  • Includes:  Hotel pickup and drop-off, Use of a helmet, Private driver, Live commentary on board, Water, Coffee, Gelato or Snack, Professional guide

This next tour is one of the most convenient of its kind, offering a hotel pickup, a private driver, and guide who knows the city like the back of their hand.

Navigating the labyrinthine streets of Rome is no easy feat, and our guide did a fantastic job making it look like a piece of cake while keeping us all safe.

The Rome by Vespa: Classic Rome Tour with Pick Up  is a thrilling tour that combines adventure and nostalgia, transporting you back to a simpler time while retaining the charm in the modern world.

After being picked up at our hotel by a private driver, we chatted about our specific interests so they could customize a tour based around them.

The guide was clearly very passionate about their city, sharing all kinds of interesting facts about the local culture and heritage, including the classic Vespa’s background!

Don’t miss out on this chance to experience Rome from a very unique perspective, zooming through the bustling streets with the smell of delicious pastas and fresh produce wafting through the air.

I thought that I had a pretty good concept of Roman history, but our guide shared fun facts and anecdotes about art, artists, emperors, and so much more that I’d never even heard of!

From the opulent Vatican to the charming Trevi Fountain, they managed to bring every landmark to life with backstories and intrigue. I liked how often we got to get off of our Vespas to walk around and really appreciate the important monuments, taking photos and taking in all the details.

Admittedly, my favorite portion of the tour was taking a break in the foodie neighborhood of Testaccio, where I reveled in a delicious espresso and gelato (please do yourself a favor and have at least one!).

After fueling up, we hiked up to the top of Aventine Hill to take in the vista over the top of Rome. The only complaint I had was that the 3 hours were so much fun, that they just passed by too fast!

5. Highlights of Rome Vespa Sidecar Tour in the Afternoon with Gourmet Gelato Stop

  • Duration:  4 hours
  • Departure Time: 2:30 PM
  • Includes:  Headsets, Homologated CE Helmets with sterilized head covers, live and interactive commentary, Gelato Gourmet stop, Licensed Guide, Professional Drivers

I’d say this is one of the best tours to take if you have an afternoon free and would like to partake in an excursion that teaches you about Rome while sprinkling in a bit of adventure and style while doing it!

The Highlights of Rome Vespa Sidecar Tour in the Afternoon with Gourmet Gelato Stop  has all the ingredients for the making of a safe, scenic, entertaining outing!

While you’ll definitely get to see the most popular tourist attractions, the highlights are the spots off the beaten path that the vast majority of tourists don’t even know about – let alone get to see!

We met up with our guide at the Piazza della Repubblica, which was conveniently located in the center of the city. Not only did they help customize the tour around our specific interests, they shared plenty of insider anecdotes I would’ve never learned from a textbook.

The free audio headsets made listening to much easier, as we could cruise around and still hear them clearly. Each Vespa came with a sidecar and you get the option to either ride on the back of the Vespa or in the sidecar (I recommend the latter as it’s just more unique and comfy).

I find the cold gelato to be the perfect complement to the warm Roman culture and ambiance, though in all honesty, not every gelato is made the same. I was grateful that our guide clearly knew where to take us, and we ended up at a gourmet gelato place with incredible flavor and texture!

We cruised through so many different neighborhoods, but for this trip, my favorite was the bohemian Trastevere, which is lined with traditional trattorias, and interesting architecture.

If you’re on the hunt for a great family outing or fun date night activity, look no further than this one! I’ll be sure to do this educational, exhilarating tour again in the very near future!

6. Vespa Sidecar Tour at Day/Night

  • Duration : 3 hours
  • Departure : Piazza di S. Marco, 48, 00186 Roma RM
  • Departure Time : 6:00 PM
  • Includes : Driver/guide, coffee and/or tea, use of helmet

While perhaps places like New York City are more well-known as the cities that never sleep, it didn’t take me long on this tour to figure out that Rome was another one.

The Vespa Sidecar Tour at Day/Night  is a 3-hour excursion that offers the opportunity to explore the city’s hidden corners while regaling you with stories about history, culture, and adrenaline.

As the title suggests, you even get to choose between the more popular day tours and the interesting night tours, where you get to see the beautiful views from a different perspective.

While I do live in a city, I am not a fan of driving around in foreign countries if I don’t have to, so the fact that we didn’t have to worry about driving ourselves was a big relief.

This allowed us to focus solely on appreciating our surroundings, the history of the city, and the people we were with. From the thrillseeker to the hesitant homebody, I promise you’ll finish this tour up with a smile on yourself?

We met up with our guide at the Piazza di San Marco 48, which was easy to find, exploring the bustling Piazza Venezia and hopping off to take photos of the massive Vittoriano Monument and impressive architecture!

No trip to Rome is complete without seeing the Colosseum, though I also found the stories about the closeby Aventine Hill and Roman Forum particularly of interest. It felt like we had a close friend taking us everywhere, while sharing some fun and interesting stories along the way!

The Roman Baths were also a point of interest I wanted to see, and weirdly enough, I talked to friends who’d been to Rome and none of them had gone there. All in all it was a unique experience that I’d recommend to single travelers and families alike.

Our guide was even so nice that he offered to take photos of us throughout so we could have a nice souvenir afterward!

7. Vespa Tour Through Rome’s Charms with Photography

  • Duration:  2 hours
  • Departure Time: Between 8:00 PM & 6:00 PM
  • Includes:  25 raw and 5 edited photos (private tour only), 20 photos, Tiramisu, driver/guide, helmets and hygienic caps, local taxes

I’ve been to plenty of massive European cities, but no other can quite nail the charm of the smell of the espresso wafting through the air while strolling over the cobblestone streets as Vespas zip around you.

It’s quite a rush being able to see the city like this, and with the Vespa Tour Through Rome’s Charms with Photography , you get to cover even more ground. This is one of the shorter tours, but in 2 hours, you can certainly see a lot of Rome’s hidden treasures while still being easy to fit into a busy schedule.

I’ve been to Rome quite a few times, and what I didn’t have were some great photos that I felt did my time there justice. That’s where this tour comes in, highlighting some of the city’s most breathtaking places while snapping shots as you do so.

We met up with our guide, who asked us before the tour started what we were interested in seeing and what we’d already seen, so he could plan accordingly.

Thanks to the kindness and knowledge of our guide, this quickly became one of the best experiences I’d ever had in Rome, sharing with us interesting historical facts as we cruised along.

We got to see plenty of places that are more difficult to get to, and that none of us tourists had seen before! Even though I’d obviously already seen landmarks like the Colosseum and Piazza Venezia, it was fun to go back with our guide this time around and take some magnificent photos.

Something that was a lifesaver for me and my photos, was our guide suggesting different poses and angles, which I had no idea about. We even got to enjoy a little “surprise” that consisted of a traditional dessert (I’ll let you find out for yourself) that was the perfect way to end our tour.

Overall, I’d say that this tour should be one of the top options, whether it’s your first or fiftieth time in Rome.

I did a Vespa Tour in Rome (and So Should You)

by Drifter Planet | Jun 23, 2024 | Italy , NEW

Rome Vespa Tour

A few days back I visited Rome on a solo trip to see the beauty of this eternal city. I did everything I could to experience the best of this city. I did guided tours, took long walks, and visited ancient Rome, Vatican City, and many other spots.

But you what’s the best thing I did in Rome? Riding on the back of a red Vespa through Rome’s narrow streets during sunset and stopping at many spots to appreciate the view.

My Red Vespa Ride for the Tour

Want to know more? So let’s first talk about Vespas and why you should ride one in Rome.

Why a Vespa tour in Rome?

Vespa scooters are iconic Italian rides. Vespa is actually a luxury brand of scooters and so very Italian (just like the tiny vintage car Fiat Cinquecento).

Colosseum and Sunset Vespa Tour in Rome

Vespas aren’t only iconic but they are adorable, and romantic and are so much fun because you can feel the wind in your hair and appreciate the beauty all around.

I ended up seeing places where I wouldn’t have gone on my own. We drove through some of the prettiest narrow streets and saw amazing views.

I’d pick a two-wheeler any day over a car in a country with good weather. Unless it is a road trip. (See my Italy road trip itinerary too)

I have an Italian father-in-law who has both a vintage Fiat Cinquecento and a Vespa but to ride one in the historical Rome was an experience like no other.

Colosseum & Fiat Cinquecento - Vespa tour in Rome

So, if you are heading to Rome and would like to see the hidden gems of this eternal city in the best way possible, I recommend getting on a Vespa.

What kind of Rome Vespa Tour to Choose

Our vespa tour group

I had just a few things on my mind before picking my Vespa tour of Rome, and these were:

  • I don’t have any scooter-driving skills so I needed a tour where I could sit behind,
  • I also love to click photos, so I wanted a tour that had enough breaks or professional photos included,
  • Most importantly, I wanted a Vespa tour that was at sunset time.
  • I didn’t want a tour that included the very easy-to-do spots of Rome like the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, or, Piazza Navona.

So, I picked the highest-rated tour where I didn’t have to ride the scooter and they also included a photoshoot as a part of the tour – total win-win.

Moreover, I was also particular about the stops because I wanted to visit places that I wouldn’t have visited on my own so this tour was perfect for me.

Posing with this cute red vespa in Rome

When the time arrived, I sat on the back of a Vespa and let one of the expert drivers show me Rome’s most beautiful sights. It was the most unforgettable trip and I made an Instagram Reel which received 100k+ views!

Here’s what my tour included:

  • 25 Professional Photos (shot on Sony Alpha 7iii),
  • Multiple sights and three stops (stops are mentioned below),
  • Helmet for safety,
  • Coffee / Tee at Colle del Gianicolo.

So as a solo traveler with zero scooter skills, who also wanted stunning photos for Instagram, this was the perfect option.

If you are like me, you don’t need to have any scooter-driving skills to enjoy a Vespa tour.

However, if you know how to ride a scooter then by all means pick a tour where you can ride one.

Sunset Vespa Tour in Rome

If you have just ONE day in Rome, then perhaps it would make more sense for you to pick a tour where they take you to the most basic spots like the Trevi fountain. I had 4 so I did those spots myself.

Alternatively, you can also pick a Vespa sidecar tour. I didn’t want to sit in one, it’s not my vibe at all. For complete safety, read all the reviews so that you can be sure.

How to Book a Vespa Tour in Rome

My ride for the vespa tour in Rome

I did enough research on GetYourGuide to pick the perfect tour for me so that I could write about the experience on my website. This way I have already done the homework for you.

If you’d like the same tour, then click the above button. It is called “Photo Tour by Vespa Scooter” and they click professional photos using Sony Alpha 7iii. Else, I have handpicked a few more options for you.

  • Vespa Tour with a Local Guide and MANY stops : If you have just one day in Rome, then pick this tour. It has many stops: Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pincio Terrace, Piazza del Popolo, Piazza Navona, Castel Sant’Angelo, Colle del Gianicolo, and Trastevere.
  • Self-Driven Sightseeing Tour by Vespa : This makes sense for those who can ride a scooter through Rome’s streets with confidence. It is a 3-hour tour and is one of the most romantic things to do in Rome if you’re traveling with your partner here.
  • Vespa Tour with Photoshoot : This is also rated very high. I didn’t pick this up because the stops weren’t mentioned, and I wanted to be sure about where I was going.

Tip: Everything books out very fast in Rome in summer, so if you are sure about your travel plans, then reserve your slot as quickly as possible. My tour was full!

My Vespa Tour Experience in Rome

Vespa Tour in Rome with Colosseum in the background

Our tour started next to the Colosseum – the heart of Ancient Rome. I had already visited the Colosseum, and Roman Forum, that morning, but I realized that the photos come out better in the evenings when the crowds thin out.

Sunset Vespa Scooter Tour in Rome

Our tour group had a total of 8 people so 9 to 10 vespas. They said the extra vespas were there just for support if there was an emergency or breakdown.

To start the tour of the highlights of the eternal city on a Vespa, our group drove around the Colosseum , next to the Capitoline Hill & Palatine Hill of the Roman Forum .

Vespa Tour in the heart of Ancient Rome

We passed by Circus Maximus and the ancient ruins looked golden as the sun was about to set.

Our first stop was Orange Garden or Giardino degli Aranci. I have mentioned more about this place in my Rome viewpoints post . We saw the sunset here and our knowledgeable guide told us interesting things about this garden.

Giardino degli Aranci in Rome

We could see the iconic landmarks all around, especially the Vatican City with the glittering dome of St. Peter’s Basilica.

After the sunset, we drove to and through Trastevere , my favorite neighborhood of Rome. We saw Fontana dell’Acqua Paola and then arrived at our next stop, which according to me has the best views of Rome.

Fontana dell'Acqua Paola, Rome

The next stop was the Janiculum Hill or Colle del Gianicolo which is a famous terrace for panoramic views of Rome. Like Orange Garden, we could see the Vatican City but we were closer than before. We saw the views of St. Peter’s Basilica.

On top of the Janiculum Hill in Rome

After enjoying this spot and clicking loads of photos here, our tour operators dropped us at Campo de’ Fiori – a lively Piazza that’s full of restaurants and nightlife options.

Where to Stay in Rome

There are loads of places to stay in Rome and many nice neighborhoods. But as a solo woman traveler, I wanted the best option possible. I wanted a neighborhood that was close to the sunset spots / walkable from nightlife areas but away from noise and busy touristy spots. So, the obvious choice was Trastevere.

I booked a place called “ Tra Gianicolo e Trastevere ” where I had an affordable private room with a nice bathroom, dresser, big windows, air conditioner, and airy feel. This place also had a shared kitchen space but when you’re in Rome, you would always want to eat outside.

My room was close to bus stops, and tram stops, and also the famous Janiculum Hill was within walking distance from here. The nightlife hub piazza Trillusa and the bars of Trastevere were easily accessible by 10-15 minute walks.

Final Thoughts

Driving Vespa at night in Trastevere, Rome

Rome is stunning and should be a part of every European trip itinerary. The city is stunning, romantic, vibrant, and has so much for every kind of traveler. If anything, I’d just not recommend Rome for families with small children.

Based on my unforgettable experience, I recommend this Vespa tour to everyone. If there’s just one thing you have to do in Rome, let it be this one.
