Our new Park & Cruise option offers the most convenient way to take care of parking at each of the ports listed below. How it works varies from port to port, with a range of different services on offer, from valet parking to self-service parking in the immediate vicinity of the cruise terminal. Simply leave your car at the luggage drop-off zone and board the ship (in some cases as an alternative there is a shuttle bus service from the car park to the terminal and vice versa). The parking charge is added to your onboard account, which you settle before disembarking. Then all you have to do is present the receipt to collect your car.

Plan on parking at PortMiami for your next cruise?  You should know there are a ton of parking options.  But don’t worry, we’ll guide you through all of them so you can save money, park conveniently, and just enjoy a worry-free cruise.

Luckily finding a place to park while you take your cruise isn’t as painful as you may think it is. To help you out, we’ve compiled everything you need to know about cruise parking near PortMiami.

Most Convenient Parking for Miami Cruise Passengers

If convenience is what you’re looking for, PortMiami offers the best cruise parking for passengers. They’re located right by the cruise ports and they offer both covered and uncovered parking with high security. They’ll also provide you with a shuttle to take you, your luggage, and anyone in your group to and from your terminal.

All lots have handicap accessible parking at standard rates. Free parking is available to any vehicles that require use of specialized equipment (ramps, lifts, foot/hand controls, etc.), display a State of Florida disabled veterans license plate, or display a Florida Toll Exemption permit.

The only downside to parking onsite is the price. Rates for overnight parking is $22 per night, and if you have an oversized vehicle longer than 20 feet you’ll pay $44 per night.  Royal Caribbean’s Terminal A charges $25 per night.

Off-Site Cruise Parking in Miami

If you’re looking for something with lower rates, there are a few businesses that offer parking for cruise passengers in Miami at a fraction of the price that the official port parking charges.

Safe Cruise Parking

Safe Cruise Parking is located just 5 minutes from the port and charges passengers roughly $14 a night per vehicle with fees and taxes, and you can book as many nights as you need.

You can find them at 155 SW 3 rd St, and once you park, they’ll provide a free shuttle to take you and your luggage to and from the cruise terminal. The shuttle runs every 15-30 minutes between 8am and 2:30pm, so be sure to arrive within that time if you wish to take advantage of it.

JetPort Park & Ride Center

This is another great budget-friendly parking option for Miami cruise travelers. Rates start at $9.99 per night and provide complimentary round-trip shuttle service for up to 4 people ($5 extra for each additional person).

JetPort is a secured parking lot with 24/7 surveillance so your car will always be safe. The shuttle runs from 8am to 3pm taking passengers to and from the cruise terminal.

You must reserve your parking online. Once you do, they’ll send you directions to the garage. When you arrive, you’ll receive an entry ticket, then once you park, you’ll go to the customer service desk to show your entry ticket and reservation, and there you’ll wait for the shuttle.

Premier Cruise Parking

This multi-level parking garage is just a mile from the ports and provides free shuttle service that can take you to the cruise terminal on cruise day and will bring you back upon your return.

Rates run about $10-$12 per day, plus taxes and fees. No oversized vehicles are allowed, so if you’re bringing an RV or camper, you’ll have to park somewhere else.

The earliest you can park there is 10:30am. Shuttle service starts at 11am and runs to 3:30pm. They do not allow any parking after 3:30pm, so be sure to plan accordingly if you decide to reserve a spot here.

Miami Parking Lots (Update- no longer in service)

Miami Parking Lots offers 3 convenient off-site parking locations for Miami cruise passengers. The addresses for these locations are:

• 3310 NW 24 th Street Road ($8.95 per day)
• 1849 NW 1st Ave. ($10 per day)
• 45 SE 2 nd ($20 per day)

All lots provide free shuttle to and from the cruise port for up to 4 passengers. Any additional shuttle passengers will be charged $5 per person.

One thing we found confusing when navigating their website, is that other locations and addresses are mentioned, while when you go to book it only gives you the above three options. It’s possible they may not have updated their website in a while.

In that case, if you’re interested in the cheaper prices and services they offer, you may want to try calling them at 1-866-888-0331 for more information.

Best Cruise Parking

At just $9.99 per night ($10 during peak season), Best Cruise Parking is another favorable option for saving on your trip budget. They are located at 221 NW 1 st Street. Reservations must be made online, or you can give them a call at 1-833-568-7101.

They provide complimentary round-trip shuttle service for 4 passengers; additional persons are $5 each. Your shuttle driver will give you a set of flags to use to alert him to your presence when you return.

They do not, however, provide service to Bimini Fast Cruise, or do they allow parking of oversized vehicles.

Miami Quick Park

Quick Park at Miami Cruise Port Parking is owned and operated by another cruise parking company with multiple locations on the east coast. This is the first Miami location they’ve built.

Housed in an old Alamo car rental facility, they have 400 outdoor parking spots available, an air-conditioned waiting lounge, and staff willing and able to help with luggage and shuttle transportation. Up to 4 passengers can ride the shuttle for free, and it’s $10 for each additional person.

Quick Park rates start at $8.00 per day, but during the holidays it’s $9 per day.

Park at Miami International Airport

Even if you’re not using the airport, you can still park there, and it’s cheaper than parking at the Port of Miami. The airport is only about 9 or 10 miles from the cruise terminal. They charge $17 per day and you can park there for a maximum of 60 days.

Just like the official port parking, handicap vehicles can park in accessible parking areas and will be charged the regular rate. Those with special equipment, FL State disabled veterans license plates, or a Florida Toll Exemption permit will be exempt from parking fees.

Also, since the Port of Miami frequently offers shuttles to and from the airport, you shouldn’t have any problems getting a ride to the cruise port.

Many of the hotels near the PortMiami cater to cruise passengers by offering free or discounted parking and shuttle services. Some will even have a “Park & Cruise” package which that you can purchase when you book your stay.

PortMiami Information

PortMiami is the largest passenger port in the world, serving over 5 million customers per year. It is also one of the largest cargo ports in the United States.

If you’ve chosen Miami as your cruise port, you may want to know a few things about the port and terminals so you can plan your trip accordingly.

The Miami cruise port has some of the most modern terminals in the world, all of them designed to move passengers quickly and efficiently from land to sea and back again. There’s convenient parking (as we’ve noted early in this article) for all terminals, and the entry ways allow for easy check-in and boarding.

This terminal serves The Crown of Miami , a Royal Caribbean vessel, along with some of Royal’s largest ships. It is the Port of Miami’s newest terminal, opened in November 2018, and is the largest cruise terminal in the U.S.

Serves Disney and MSC Cruises and was recently renovated to accommodate larger cruise vessels, including some of MSC’s mega ships.

This is the port’s smallest “boutique” cruise terminal, built and designed for smaller vessels from Oceania and Regent Seven Seas. It’s currently undergoing a few renovations to better accommodate customs and border protection, remodel existing restrooms, and add an exterior escalator.

Other Terminals

Terminals B & C serve Norwegian Cruise Line, D & E serve Carnival, and G serves Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises.

Terminals Coming Soon

In addition to the many terminals already in business at the Port of Miami, the port has plans to add a handful of new terminals in the coming years.

New Terminal B – In April 2018, the port began work on Terminal B to serve Norwegian Cruise Lines. It’s scheduled to open for business in less than a year.

New Terminal V – This terminal will be home to Virgin Voyages. The port plans to break ground later this year and are looking for construction to be complete by November 2021. Virgin Voyages is a new cruise line and their first ship, which will ship out of the Port of Miami, is Scarlet Lady.

New Terminal AA/AAA – Early this year MSC Cruises started planning and designing two new cruise facilities at the Port of Miami, hopefully to be done by 2020.

New Terminal K – And finally, Disney Cruise Line signed an MOU (memorandum of understanding) with Miami-Dade County to expand two of their ships and add a new cruise terminal as well. The new terminal will be on the south side of the port.

Oceania Cruises – With Oceania Cruises you can enjoy your cruise with an award-winning cruise line. Travel all over the world and visit various ports of call on one of six luxury cruise ships.

Viking Ocean Cruises – Viking offers River and Ocean cruises, but only the Ocean Cruises use Miami as a home port. Viking Ocean Cruises go to Scandinavia, the Mediterranean, Americas & the Caribbean, Asia, Australia, and Africa. You can even book a Grand Voyage, which combines two or more itineraries into one. Grand Voyages can last anywhere from 38 to 245 days.

Parking in Miami doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Any of the options listed above would be great choices, depending on what your preference is.

The best option for convenience and for handicapped visitors is to park on-site at the port. However, this is also the most expensive option. If there are budget restraints, Miami has various other parking options for far less, and many of them also offer shuttle service.

Is there parking right at the Cruise Ship Terminal in Miami? Do you know which terminal the Divina usually is at?

Yes, there is garage parking at the port. It's easy peasy. ;)

I forget the terminal number for Divina but I believe she is always docked closest to the mainland because she departs the latest. You'll see the white tents.

The 3rd party providers all seem to have poor to mediocre reviews. We've done that a couple times with no issues, but I really don't like it when they require you to leave you keys so they can move the car during the week.

We have not parked at the port because DW doesn't want to spend the extra $, but I think in April we probably will. We want to try to make it home in one day this time. It's about 10.5 hours on the road with 2 small kids, so not having the additional delay of waiting on the parking shuttle is a win.

I (assume) that it's possible and typical to take your bags and walk to the car when parked at the port. All things being normal, you're in the car maybe 10 minutes after clearing customs? Can anybody share their experience?

We parked at the cruiseport last week to go on the Divina. I think it was terminal G - but it was right opposite the Divina, so you could see it from a distance.

$20 a day is costly, but based on horrible reviews of the offsite places, plus all the good feedback from CC, we decided to stay at the cruiseport - we had no reservations (don't think they accept them) but we had no trouble. We parked the car, took the elevator down to the ground floor with our suitcases, crossed at the crosswalk, and checked into MSC. It was simple.

When we returned, we came out of the MSC terminal, walked across the street with our suitcases and got in our car. They took our credit card when we left, the lady in the booth was very friendly.

Miami is NOT a good place to just leave your car, or hand your keys over to ANYONE. We've parked off site in Jacksonville, in Fort Lauderdale and lots of other places but I wouldn't recommend it in Miami. Pay the extra and have peace of mind while you're on your cruise!

A little additional story...we returned from 7 days on the MSC Divina 3 days ago. When I got in the car, there was a note on the passenger door, saying "I've locked your door for you, it's not a good idea to leave it wide open, Have a nice day". Apparently, with all the commotion of getting the cases out of the trunk, (we were not late at all), I was over excited and for the first time in my entire life, I walked away from my car with the door open. I CANNOT BELIEVE I DID THAT!

However, thank God, the car was not stolen, nothing inside was touched (there was nothing to steal) and after my shock at my own carelessness wore off, we drove away, planning on our next Divina cruise.

PAY THE MONEY - STAY AT THE MIAMI CRUISEPORT!

We have always used the terminal's parking. Yes, it is expensive, but if I am willing to spend thousands on a cruise, I am not going to save a few dollars by leaving my car on a parking lot. The security, convenience, and above all the peace of mind are well worth the extra money.

Thanks for the feedback. That is what I was thinking, but some places aren't implemented well. For instance, for several years in Galveston the 'official port parking' was a remote lot but they would not transport bags on the shuttle. You'd have to go through the loop and wait in line to drop bags, and then go park and take the shuttle back. I think that foolishness finally ended when they got some competition.

Divina is docked at terminal "F",,we've taken the tunnel twice now to get to the Port Of Miami when we come from I-95, and we park in the covered parking garage across from terminal "G".:)

We used Safe Cruise Parking for our July MSC Divina cruise. (Five day) It was close to the port, gated and walled. Timing was perfect when we arrived, as a large family arrived a head of us. We got on the shuttle and were taken straight to the port and walked right onto the ship. However, after the cruise, it took close to an hour to finally get picked up and returned to our car. Our car was fine. No, I did not like leaving my keys with them. But, all their staff were friendly. It was a bit over 40.00 for the five days.

You know, I wrote it and I can't figure out what I meant either. :o

Definitely go through the tunnel. It just merges with what seems to be the main stream of traffic coming on from Port blvd. It's cool, and I'm pretty sure it saved us 5 minutes last time by avoiding the backup on Port Blvd.

I realize this thread is 8 months old but.....we lived in Miami for the past 25 years (DH has lived there that past 60 years) and we would NEVER park any where other than at the port. $20 is a small price to pay if you value your car and its contents. I worked downtown the past 13 years and I rode Metrorail so I wouldn't have my car broken into while I was working (co workers who drove and parked in our buildings covered parking had almost daily problems). Homeless people in Bayfront Park will break into a car for anything they can use. Sorry, that's just the way it is nowadays. I loved Miami but I was glad to leave last year. It's just another big city now with big city problems although I loved the weather and the proximity to the water and the Keys.

We have never had a problem parking at the cruise port garages and the convenience outweighs any money savings. The off port lots have security problems, even with cameras and patrol dogs and the neighborhoods they are in are not safe even in the day time. A lot of people on Cruise Critic say they always park off port and have never had a problem. Yeah, but a lot of people don't read Cruise Critic and you should hear some of the horror stories. Jus' sayin'.

The port parking is so handy! Park car, walk across street, board ship. Coming back , go through customs, walk across street, get in car, drive home. It is pricey, but figure in the time waiting for a shuttle and paying a tip both directions it becomes not so expensive.

In the past, disabled parking was free. Now you need a car with hand controls, a ramp or some other features.

I can park free at my sisters house in Homestead if I want. But then I will need to get to the ship and back to her house. I plan on parking at the port on my next cruise.

As far as I know the Divina can be accessed thru the tunnel, She parks just before the ship turn around at the pier. I think you have to take the first left turn when you come out of the tunnel to get to her.:)

As Mikesa indicated, Divina is parked at "F" so "G" is the closest parking garage. However, if SL is accessible it looks like a good choice also...

The tunnel runs under the park then up to the side road which merges with the main loop... which is more of a rectangle.

However, you come up and merge, then take a left and another left and then drive along the entire set of parking garages. Very much like a small airport.

The signage is poor at best, but it's tough to get too lost. The key with Divina is to be aware that you're actually going past the terminal and it's not a mistake.

OK, one more:

The blue parallelogram is terminal F and a ship which actually happens to be Divina.

Red is parking garage G.

Blue is the SL lot, which is just a surface lot (perhaps explaining the SL designation.) It does appear to have a toll station, but I suspect that is parking for the POM workers.

Thanks for the info. I see that boarding time is 2 pm for the Divina. What time should I arrive if I want to park in the garage?

We were on Divina 2 weeks ago. We drove to the Port of Miami, dropped off our luggage and passengers and parked at 2pm. There is plenty of parking in

Garage G - even for our oversized pickup truck (and they didn't charge us extra for being over 20 ft long!)

We have been coming in a day early and staying at the LaQuinta East by the airport. Our senior price was $93 + tax and included the one night's stay, breakfast, parking for 7 nights, and one way shuttle to the port. The return is $10 per person. It's cheaper to stay at the hotel than to park at the port and you don't have the hassle.

PortMiami and Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale are two of the most prominent cruise ports in the United States. As the largest and busiest cruise ports in the country, they cater to a vast array of ships from all major cruise lines. These ports are convenient for both local Florida residents and out-of-towners who arrive through the region’s two major airports.

But does it really matter which homeport you choose for your next cruise? Both ports are only 30 miles apart. Let’s explore some key factors to consider when choosing between Miami and Fort Lauderdale for your cruise departure.

Cruise Lines

Miami and Fort Lauderdale are the two busiest cruise ports in the United States and, together, host all major cruise lines. Some lines, like Carnival, operate from both ports, but others are exclusive to one.

While it sees fewer passengers than Miami (just under 4 million a year), it holds the world record for most cruise passengers in a single day.

Itineraries

Given their proximity, both ports offer similar itineraries to popular destinations such as the Caribbean and the Bahamas. However, there are some key differences.

Choose Fort Lauderdale for European or Transatlantic Cruises

Fort Lauderdale offers itinerary options not available from Miami. Holland America, for instance, offers cruises from Fort Lauderdale to Europe (Canary Islands, Spain, and Rome) and to Canada and New England. Miami does offer transatlantic journeys, but options are limited compared to Fort Lauderdale’s offerings.

Choose Miami for Warm Weather Destinations

PortMiami is a top departure port for cruises to warm-weather destinations such as the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico, South America, Central America, and the Panama Canal . Unless embarking on a world cruise, you’ll likely avoid cold weather on cruises departing from Miami.

Getting There

Both ports are accessible via Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale International Airport. The travel time from either airport to the respective port is relatively short.

Choose Miami for More Airline Options

Miami International Airport is served by approximately 50 airlines, compared to just over 30 at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood Airport. International passengers will find more options flying into Miami, with services from airlines like Air France, Alitalia, Qatar, and Turkish Airlines. Parking at Port Everglades costs $15 per day, compared to $20 per day at PortMiami. For oversized vehicles, Fort Lauderdale is significantly cheaper. Additionally, many nearby hotels offer park-and-cruise packages.

Choose Miami for Shuttle Services

PortMiami offers free shuttle service between all parking areas and cruise terminals, which can be helpful for passengers with mobility issues. Port Everglades only offers shuttle service to Terminal 29 from the Midport parking garage.

Port New York cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from New York, NYC Manhattan-Brooklyn. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Port New York has two cruise ports with their own passenger terminal facilities. Port Manhattan (4 berths on 2 piers - numbers 88 and 90) is located on Manhattan Island's western coast, beside the Hudson River. Port Brooklyn (1 berth) is located approx 6 mi (10 km) to the south, on eastern Upper Bay on Brooklyn’s Red Hook waterline.

Cape Liberty Cruise Port is also in New York Harbor but is part of Bayonne City (New Jersey) . Bayonne's Military Ocean Terminal serves Royal Caribbean Group/RCG-owned ships from the fleets of RCG's subsidiaries RCI-Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises , while ships of RCG's subsidiary Silversea dock at NYC's Manhattan Terminal.

Currently, NYC's Manhattan Cruise Terminal serves CCL-Carnival , NCLH ( NCL-Norwegian , Oceania , RSSC-Regent Seven Seas ), TUI ,  Virgin Voyages and other major companies .

Currently, NYC's Brooklyn Terminal serves Cunard Line and MSC .

All these ports/cruise terminals are part of the "Port of New York and New Jersey" - a port district in the New York Metro (total population 20,1+ million).

Around 8,1 million New Yorkers live on Long Island (population density 5860 per mi2/2262 per km2).

NYC cruise port

Port NYC NJ (officially "Port of New York and New Jersey") handles a huge cargo shipping volume and is US East Coast's biggest seaport.

Port's cruise schedule lists voyages the whole year round. During winter are popular southbound itineraries – to the Caribbean and Bahamas. During summer are operated mainly roundtrips to Bermuda as well as Transatlantic crossings (USA-UK/ Southampton ). In autumn are offered "Fall Foliage" cruises to Canada and New England USA.

In May 2013, Port NYC started a project to raise Bayonne Bridge in order to allow access to the world's largest container ships  to the cargo ports of New York City and New Jersey (Elizabeth and Newark). The project also included dredging (deepening) the navigation channel.

On September 7, 2017, the boxship CMA CGM Theodore Roosevelt (2015-built, IMO 9780873) passed under the elevated Bayonne Bridge. The vessel has TEU capacity 14855 containers, LOA length 366 m, volume 152,991 GT-tons. It became the largest ship to pass under the Bayonne Bridge.

On September 28, 2023, NYC's Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC/1991-founded nonprofit) announced new port usage agreements (for Manhattan's and Brooklyn's terminals) signed with Carnival Corporation, NCLH-Norwegian and MSC. The agreements were designed to increase revenues and sustainability/emissions reduction, with term lengths ranging between 3-15 years, each with an optional 5-year renewal.

The 2023-signed agreements included establishing a Community Priority Fund (by adding US$1 per cruise passenger; to be used for projects in the cruise terminals' neighborhoods/Red Hook and Midtown Manhattan), planning ground transportation (improvements to maximize public transportation/reducing road traffic), reducing CO emissions (where feasible, including shore power connections/all cruise ships in NYC must be equipped with the technology by 2028), increasing local provisioning and developing educational partnerships with NYC-based institutions.

Port New York and New Jersey

Port New York and New Jersey is the seaport of NYC metro. It encompasses an area with a radius ~25 mi (40 km) and includes all navigable waterways in NY–NJ Harbor Estuary. The covered coastline is around 650 mi (1050 km) along both states. NYC Harbor is among the world's largest natural harbors. By annual cargo capacity, the seaport is ranked USA's 3rd largest - after South Louisiana (Mississippi River) and Houston (Texas).

Within the seaport there are 2 FTZs (foreign-trade zones) where commercial goods (domestic and foreign) receive same Customs treatment as outside USA. Annually, Port NY-NJ handles around USD 208 billion in shipping cargoes, around 3,4 million TEU's (shipping containers) and nearly 0,4 million cars.

• In July 2017, the port's largest container ship so far (CMA CGM Theodore Roosevelt - 14,400 TEUs ) passed under the raised Bayonne Bridge.
• The channels (as draft) and the bridges (as heights) limit the vessels that can enter the harbor.
• Verrazano-Narrows Bridge's clearance is 228 ft (67 m).
• Brooklyn Bridge's clearance is 135 ft (41 m).
• Bayonne Bridge's clearance (lowered-raised) is  155-215 ft (47-65,5 m).

The company "Port Authority of New York and New Jersey" was established in 1921 to manage all facilities and services within the combined NY-NJ harbor area. The company also controls all vehicular and rapid-transit systems connecting New York and New Jersey, several airports, as well as real estate developments. It also maintains its own police force.

US Army Corps of Engineers are involved in regular harbor maintenance works (bulkhead and channels). USCG (Coast Guard) maintains all floatable debris and marine accidents and incidents (spills, rescues, counter-terrorism operations). Both states (NY and NJ) maintain maritime police units. US Customs and Border Protection and US Immigration and Customs agencies regulate international shipping imports and cruise passenger arrivals.

Port's foreign trade zones - FTZ 1 (New York) and FTZ 49 (New Jersey)  handled in 2010 a combined shipping traffic of 4811 vessels and over 32,2 million tons of cargoes valued USD 175+ billion.

In March 2006, some passenger terminals were transferred (as management) to DP World ( Dubai -based corporation).

The seaport has 4x containership terminals, ranking it (by combined volume) the US East Coast's largest, USA's 3rd busiest and the world's 20th largest cargo port. Terminals are leased to private operators.

• Howland Hook Marine Terminal (northwestern Staten Island)
• Port Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal (Newark Bay)
• Port Jersey Marine Terminal and Red Hook Marine Terminal (both in Upper New York Bay)
• Maher Terminals LLC operates the port's largest containership facilities, served by a total of 11x Liebherr STS (ship-to-shore) megamax container cranes.

NY-NJ port's main imports are petroleum, appliances, vehicles, plastics, electronics, chemicals, perfumes, pharmaceuticals, optical and photographic materials, precious gems and metals.

ExpressRail network supports intermodal freight transport interconnecting all major terminals. In 2014, the total number of handled intermodal TEUs was 391,596. Most imports are transported in TEUs. Petroleum and scrap metals are handled at bulk cargo terminals, many of which are located along the port's straits and canals.

• New York New Jersey Railroad serves freight cars across Upper Bay, connecting Jersey City with Brooklyn (between Greenville Yard and Bush Terminal Yard). The 4 km crossing takes 45 min.
• Cross-Harbor Rail Tunnel is a proposed project under Upper Bay, with western portal at Greenville Yard and eastern portal still undetermined.

Cruise ships and ferries in Port New York and New Jersey dock at the berths of Cape Liberty Cruise Port (Upper Bay, Bayonne NJ) , Brooklyn Cruise Terminal (Upper Bay, NYC) and New York Passenger Ship Terminal (Hudson River, NYC).

• Regularly scheduled ferry service across Upper Bay connects South Ferry with St George Ferry Terminal, serving daily around 75,000 passengers.
• Major ferry terminals are Hoboken, Battery Park City, Paulus Hook, Weehawken Port Imperial, Pier 11, West Midtown and the East 34th Street Landing. Most smaller-sized ferries serve only 1 route.
• Small boats operate leisure tours, excursions and NYC harbor cruises. They circumnavigate Manhattan or navigate into Upper New York Bay.

In July 2017, through bidding, Ports America won a contract for operating Manhattan and Brooklyn cruise terminals until 2029. The deal required investments of USD 38,5 million in infrastructure improvements, including Pier 90 berth rehabilitation, extended aprons, new fenders. Brooklyn Pier was extended by 45-60 m (150-200 ft) to allow berthing for larger boats. Construction works started in 2018.

Season 2018 featured two large newbuild liners - Carnival Horizon (133500 GT-tons, 4700 passengers) and Norwegian Bliss (168000 GT-tons, 4900 passengers).

New York ferries

In 2018 was inaugurated the ferry line connecting Bayonne NJ with Manhattan (across Hudson River).

A US$650,000 federal grant was given to the city for the building of a new ferry terminal. The facility is on the southern part of the Military Ocean Terminal, on an artificial peninsula east of NJ Route 440.

The 1,5-acre land site (former US Navy base) was purchased in 2010 and leased for ferry docking at US$200,000 per year.

In the previous year (2017) NYC Ferry inaugurated the commute ferry service linking Manhattan with Long Island (Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Bronx). In 2016, NYC Ferry's fleet consisted of 19 newbuild boats.

• On May 1st were launched the East River route (North Brooklyn to Midtown and NYC's Financial District) and the Rockaway route (Lower Manhattan to Sunset Park and The Rockaways).
• On June 1st was launched the South Brooklyn route (8 terminals/between Corlears Hook and Bay Ridge) linking Bay Ridge, Sunset Park, Red Hook, Brooklyn Bridge Park.
• On August 29th was launched the Astoria route (between Western Queens and Roosevelt Island) linking Wall Street/Pier 11, East 34th Street, LIC/Long Island City Queens, Roosevelt Island Manhattan, and Astoria Queens.

In August 2018, NYC Ferry launched a link between Soundview (South Bronx) and Manhattan. The landing site in Bronx is at Clason Point Park (Sound View Ave's end). The nearest subway station (Morrison Ave-Sound View) is 2 mi (3 km) away. Ferry travel time Bronx-Manhattan is 45-min. In Manhattan, ferries stop at 90th St (Upper East Side), East 34th Str (Midtown), Pier 11 (Wall Str). Currently, NYC Ferry operates 6 routes.

New York cruise terminal

The following NY & NJ cruise port map shows the locations of all three cruise terminals (NYC's Manhattan and Brooklyn, and Bayonne NJ's Cape Liberty).

NYC Manhattan Cruise Terminal

The Manhattan passenger terminal is on Hudson River (on Manhattan Island's shoreline), located is between West 44 and West 52 streets. Both Newark International Airport and LaGuardia Airport are located approx 15 mi (24 km) away, while JFK International Airport is approx 20 mi (32 km) away.

This NYC cruise terminal has 3 wharves – Pier 88 (2 berths), Pier 90 (2 berths), and Pier 92 (1 overflow berth). They can accommodate up to 5 cruise liners simultaneously and each has a fully-functioning passenger terminal building. Manhattan terminal serves NCL Norwegian , Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America . At Pier 92's south side dock large liners.

In early 2017, NYC Economic Development Corporation selected Ports America as long-term cruise ship terminal operator for both Brooklyn (1 berth) and Manhattan (Pier 88 and Pier 90), Ports America also supplies cruise ship provisions for vessels docked at Pier 92.

At the top of all the piers, there is a building with dedicated parking lots, snack bars, restrooms, check-in, VIP areas, customs, newsstands.

NYC Brooklyn Cruise Terminal

Located across Governors Island, Brooklyn NYC cruise port terminal is in Red Hook. LaGuardia Airport is 12 miles away, Newark International Airport – 16 miles away and JFK International Airport is 20 miles away.

Brooklyn New York cruise ship terminal used to be a cargo port. You will get very ”industrial feel”. The terminal building on Pier 12 is a new one. The facilities are vending machines, check-in, restrooms and customs. There is a parking area with 500 spots. Brooklyn New York cruise port terminal can accommodate only one ship. It serves Princess Cruises and Cunard ships.

Brooklyn cruise terminal's shorepower

Since 2016, Brooklyn Cruise Terminal provides shore-power .

The shore-to-ship electric power supply project was first announced in 2011.

Cunard's liner RMS Queen Mary 2 was the first-ever vessel (officially plugged-in on November 12th, 2016).

The US$21 million system was signed off by the New York and New Jersey Port Authority and turned over to the NYC Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), which currently oversees the cruise shipping program for Brooklyn and Manhattan. As of September 2016, NYCEDC has responsibility for the system's operations and maintenance.

The plug-in shorepower was installed by Cochran Marine. This is a dual-voltage system targeted for use by Cunard Line and  Princess Cruises , which are the terminal’s primary customers. The Terminal's cable positioning device is removable, so it can be stored during winter.

Connecting to Con Edison power grid, the shorepower system allows ships to run their onboard systems without using diesel generators. This eliminates ~1500 tons of CO2, ~95 tons of NOx, and ~6,5 tons of soot/particulate matter annually.

In 2010, the NY-NJ Port Authority estimated that improvement to air quality could yield public health benefits of USD 99 million over 15 years. That was a key element for community groups around the terminal’s Red Hook neighborhood to start pushing for shore power. Beyond the infrastructure cost, the project was delayed by haggling over the price of electrical power – in an era where cheap fuel prices made shipboard generation more economical. The power costs are subsidized in part by the EDC and the New York Power Authority, with terminal user Carnival Corp picking up the rest. As part of an agreement,  Carnival Corporation pays USD 12 cents per kilowatt-hour for shorepower.

Costs were ~USD 10 million (to service one slip) and involve substantial infrastructure improvements. Ship operators must spend ~USD 1 million to make a vessel shorepower-ready. Demand on the energy grid is substantial too. A typical container ship in port uses about as much energy as a single terminal at Boston ’s Logan Airport, while RMS Queen Mary 2 requires 13 megawatts (equal to the entire airport).

New Jersey Cape Liberty cruise terminal (Royal Caribbean)

In October 2014, RCCL-Royal Caribbean and NYC Port Authority dedicated a Cape Liberty cruise terminal for the RCI's ship Quantum OTS. The new terminal started operations on November 10, 2014.

The new facility is located at Port Terminal Blvd (Bayonne waterfront), adjacent to the Tear Drop Memorial (Russia-built 10–story sculpture). The US$55 million building project included port expansion with a new passenger terminal, featuring a total covered area of 125000 ft2 (11600 m2) that hosts check-in, customs and immigration, luggage storage and processing area, parking area (capacity 950 cars/costs US$25 per day including taxes) and also improvements of the existing docking pier. The new terminal building is adjacent to the 2004-inaugurated terminal.

Port Cape Liberty is in close proximity to EWR-Newark Liberty Airport (10 mi / 16 km to the west, ~20-min travel time by car) and easy to access, skipping NYC's heavy traffic and bridges.

• Empire State Building: don’t miss that famed building. It is 1050 ft tall. You can take a look from the airy promenade after a great lift to the Observatory.
• Central Park: the iconic park dates from 1857. It is a large landscaped area where you can enjoy the Zoo, the Botanical Gardens, the Bethesda fountain, the Great Lawn and Belvedere Castle.
• Metropolitan Museum of Art: located between East 81 and East 82, dates from 1870. Discover artworks of famous artists – Aristotle with a Bust of Homer by Rembrandt, Wheat Field with Cypresses by Van Gogh, Young Woman with a Water Pitcher by Vermeer and The Unicorn in Captivity, medieval tapestry.
• Brooklyn Bridge: the bridge dates from the late 19th century. It spans across the East River. The Brooklyn Bridge and the views across Brooklyn, Upper Bay and Manhattan are breathtaking.
• Brooklyn Botanic Garden: 39 acres with beautiful gardens. Walk through the Bonsai Museum, the Tropical Pavilion, the Aquatic House and the Desert Pavilion. You can also have a coffee, buy a gift or something from the garden store.

MSC joins Royal Caribbean, Carnival in making big pricing change

C ruise pricing, like hotels on land, changes based on demand. All the major cruise lines use some form of demand-based pricing where different people on the same ship can pay very different prices for the exact same accommodations.

Sometimes it makes sense to book early. That's usually the best chance to pay a lower price, but waiting can also save you money. There are times when a particular sailing does not sell well and prices will drop.

It's an inexact science that has become even more complicated as demand has increased. Deals have become more rare, at least on newer ships. but that does not mean they don't exist.

In most cases, when booking a cruise, it's best to work with a travel agent because the initial price you pay does not have to be the final price. Until final payment is due (usually about 90 days out) you can usually get onboard credit if the price drops.

That's difficult to track as an individual, but it's part of the job for a good travel agent.

Until recently all the major cruise lines also used a pricing practice that's popular with hotels. They often advertised prices that did not include port fees and taxes. That lets them show a lower, more enticing price, but it's not what people will actually pay.

That's a policy that Royal Caribbean RCL and Carnival Cruise Line have changed nationally based on a new California law. MSC Cruise plans to follow its two larger rivals and make the same pricing transparency change.

MSC will also show the final price

While California is the only state that has made showing the true price including any fees, the law, President Joe Biden has targetted hidden fees and spoke about them in an October speech.   

"The Federal Trade Commission is proposing a new rule that would ban hidden fees across the economy and require companies to show consumers the all-in pricing upfront — upfront. (Applause.) That includes what these fees are for, how much they amount to in full, and whether they are refundable," he said.

So far, efforts to pass that law have failed, but some hotels and travel booking sites have moved to advertise the full price upfront.

Carnival Cruise Line ( CCL ) and Royal Caribbean had to make the change in California and opted to do the same nationwide.

The cruise lines, it should be noted, were not adding on fees in the way that hotels charged resort fees for WiFi, pool access, and parking that consumers had no option to opt out of. Instead, they generally did not advertise taxes and port fees upfront which led to surprises at checkout. 

People generally expect that taxes will be added on, but new or infrequent cruisers likely did not know that port fees, which can be significant depending on your itinerary would be added. This pricing change brings pricing clarity to customers as they book.

MSC Cruises will also show the final price

MSC Cruises has been expanding its presence in the US and plans to adopt the same upfront pricing transparency as Carnival and Royal Caribbean. The change will go into effect June 26.

'This change does not impact the overall price paid by our guests or the commissionable portion of the cruise fare earned by our trusted travel partners,' the company said in a media statement .

The cruise line has been steadily growing its presence in the US and that will continue.

"MSC Cruises unveiled an expanded slate of itineraries today, aimed at offering a wider variety of vacation options for guests departing from the line’s four U.S. homeports. The company’s Winter 2025/2026 season includes seven ships with sailings from Miami, Port Canaveral, New York City, and Galveston, all of which are available for immediate booking," the cruise line shared on its website.

The expansion includes the cruise line bringing MSC Seascape to Galveston, Texas, marking its first time having a ship homeport there. MSC will also welcome a new flagship, MSC World America, which will debut in Miami in April 2025.

From the Bride, Cherry… My husband and I we decided to have our summer wedding in Moscow because the city is where his roots are. As we knew we were going to have the other wedding ceremony in China, we wanted our Moscow one to be very personal and intimate. We’ve known each other since we were fourteen, together with many of our friends whom we’ve also known for a decade.

I didn’t want to walk down the aisle twice so the plausibility of my request quickly came into discussion. The open pontoon stage was constructed in order to facilitate the bridal entrance on water, although there were concerns about safety as the last thing we wanted was probably a drowned bride before she could get on stage, picture that! I have to say on that day it wasn’t easy to get on the pontoon stage from the boat, in my long gown and high heels. Luckily my bridesmaids still noticed even though they stood the furthest from me on the stage, and helped me out without prior rehearsal. My girls could just tell whenever I needed a hand or maybe they were just so used to my clumsiness. Who knows 😂

We all love our photographer Julia! She’s so talented and her style is so unique. Our beloved host Alex is exceptional who made everyone laugh and cry. It was truly a blessing to have so many kind and beautiful souls on our big day. Thank you all!

From Sonya Khegay … It was the last day of April and still very cold in the morning. The weather forecast wasn’t pleasing and no one expected that the sun would come out, but miracles happen and light rain gave way to the warm rays.

I love how all the details went together, you could feel the harmony in everything throughout the entire wedding day from the morning until the fireworks.

A gentle look of the bride, elegant but so airy and unique decor, the fresh and light atmosphere of early spring and, of course, true happiness in the eyes. My heart becomes so warm from these memories, it is always a pleasure to see the birth of a new family of two loving hearts.

But add in an amazing firework show  to cap off the night and simple just became downright extraordinary. Captured by Lena Elisseva , with assistance by  Katya Butenko , this rustic Russian celebration is simply fantastic. From Lena Eliseeva Photo …  This cozy and warm summer wedding of gorgeous Natalia and Anton was in the middle of June. The young couple decided to organize their wedding themselves, and the day was very personal and touching. I am absolutely in love with rustic outdoor weddings, and this one is my favourite because of the free and easy atmosphere.

All the decor excluding the bride’s bouquet was made by a team of ten friends of the bride and groom. And it was charming – a light and beautiful arch, eco-style polygraphy and succulents, candy-bar with caramel apples and berries – sweet joys of summer.

At the end of ceremony the guests tossed up white handkerchiefs embroidered by Natalia’s own hands.

The most touching moment was the happy eyes of the groom’s grandmother, the most estimable person on the wedding. And the fireworks were a bright end to that beautiful day.

From Lena Kozhina … When we met with the couple for the first time, we immediately paid attention to Dima’s behavior towards Julia. There was a feeling of tenderness and awe, and we immediately wanted to recreate this atmosphere of love, care and warmth on their Big Day.

Later, when we had chosen a green meadow and an uncovered pavilion overlooking a lake as the project site, it only highlighted a light summer mood with colorful florals and a great number of natural woods. The name of the site is Fox Lodge and peach-orange color, as one of the Bride’s favorites, set the tone for the whole design – from the invitations, in which we used images of fox cubs to elements of serving guest tables and other decorative elements with the corresponding bright accents.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
