The 2023 edition sails in with updates and new information including a significant update on the Disney Wish from Erin Foster along with insight from Len Testa, and Ritchey Halphen.

Competition in the cruise market is a great win for cruisers. With growing fleets, and destinations, there is an unending number of ships and itineraries to navigate though when planning a cruise vacation. Arguably, Disney’s biggest rival in the cruise market is Royal Caribbean. Matt Hochberg from the RoyalCaribbeanBlog.com returns to shares his unique comparative insight and things to consider when looking at a cruise vacation.

At this time, the cruising policies and procedures remain dynamic in terms of what passengers need to know before, during, and after a cruise. For the most part, we are emerging from a period of sailing in uncharted waters and I think it is safe to say, we entered a period of a new normal. Although, to manage expectations, there are still some ongoing changes you may experience on your next cruise based on the latest happenings. Things on Disney Cruise Line’s private island Castaway Cay recent became a little too hot, with a fire breaking out on the island, shutting it down entirely.

Castaway Cay caters to all palates with complimentary dining options. Cookie’s BBQ and Cookie’s Too, the island’s primary dining venues, offer classic summertime fare like cheeseburgers, barbecued chicken, fresh salads, and fruit under relaxing shaded pavilions. Disney Cruise Line’s signature soft-serve ice cream is also complimentary at these locations. Serenity Bay BBQ provides similar offerings on the adults-only section of the island.

For a refreshing treat, Olaf’s Summertime Freeze offers specialty frozen beverages and must-have souvenir cups, sure to delight young guests.

Castaway Cay promises an unforgettable experience for families of all ages, offering a seamless blend of relaxation, adventure, and Disney magic.

That is why the recent fire was so devastating to guests.

Guests who were on the Disney Wish a few days ago would have had a very different Castaway Cay visit. One guest took to Reddit to share that the island had to temporarily shut down, “Just got off the Wish. When we were at Castaway Cay someone threw a lit cigar into the brush and started a fire that shut down the power on the island temporarily. Crew handled it fantastically.”

Another guest who was on the ship replied, “Just got off as well. We were all loaded on the tram to head back to the ship and got stuck sitting there for about a half hour. No one told us what happened but we saw some crew in fire gear once everything was resolved. Fortunately it seems like they were able to contain it.”

A lot of the conversation revolved around Disney fans wanting the ships to ban smoking all together: “It’s become time for DCL to ban smoking on the island and to work on phasing it out on the ships.”

“Tired of walking through clouds of smoke to get to the beach, to get to food, to just walk around. Hopefully we see more islands going to way of Mexico and banning it outright also making it easier for DCL to implement.”

It appears that the fire began right by the dock of the island, which stopped guests from coming both on and off the ship until the fire was contained and extinguished.

This is not the only issue that DCL has hit as of late. The Disney Dream took a pit stop in the middle of the Atlantic recently as the ship attempted to assist in what appeared to be an urgent emergency.

Earlier this year, we reported that Disney conducted a successful rescue mission on New Year’s Eve , once again stopping their boat to provide aid.

These hiccups also occur on other cruise lines, such as Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Princess Cruise Line, and others.

Moving forward, Disney Cruise Line (DCL) is thrilled to announce the upcoming opening of Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, Bahamas, on June 10, 2024. This new private island destination signifies a remarkable collaboration between Disney and Bahamian artisans, historians, and cultural experts.

New Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Merch Revealed

Y’all … it’s time to talk Tiana’s Bayou Adventure merch!

Recently, we announced that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will  open at Magic Kingdom Park in Florida on June 28 , and now it’s time to talk all a- bayou -t the new merchandise you can bring home.

The merchandise journey began with Walt Disney Imagineering in 2021, when a team of Imagineers weaved together the story of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure with breathtaking concept art and inspiration from immersion trips to New Orleans. Through connecting with the people, culture, food, and of course, music of New Orleans, the team was able to guide the merchandise creative designers to develop authentic products that bring the story of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to life for all guests.

You’ve probably heard the phrase “shop until you drop,” but for this ride and its iconic 50-foot plummet, you’re going to want to shop before  and  after you drop. From clothes to home goods, tasty treats and more, there’s something for everyone.

It’s a Joyful Celebration with Bayou Apparel

Find new ‘fits for the whole family with attire featuring the logo for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, as well as Princess Tiana, Louis and some of their new  critter friends .

Outfit yourself from head to toe with fireflies, log flumes and fun with the classic adult Spirit Jersey and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ear headband. And I don’t know about you, but I’m going to need a Louis Cuddleez Plush. Look at his sweet smiling face!

What’s this I see about a shortcut to the bayou? Hmm … I wonder what that means!

Would you check out that adorable Interactive Firefly? Just like the fireflies in Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “The Princess and the Frog,” these little friends love to see other fireflies out and about – they will light up when they’re near each other to say hello.

Tiana’s Foods Treats

Princess Tiana is known best for three things: entrepreneurship, community and good food. You can sample some delicious eats yourself with a collection of consumables inspired by her culinary successes, like the Mardi Gras Popcorn, the Bananas Foster Milk Chocolate Bar inspired by the New Orleans classic, green apple lollipop and more.

Bring Home the Spice of Life

When Disney Animation filmmakers were dreaming up “The Princess and the Frog,” they took inspiration from legendary New Orleans restaurateur  Leah Chase  for the character of Princess Tiana.  As part of the merchandise for Tiana’s new attraction, Walt Disney World will be the first place outside of Dooky Chase’s Restaurant to sell spices from Leah’s family business. Whip Up Some Magic in the Kitchen

Season your own kitchen with home goods that’ll make you say “c’est bon!” (that’s good!) followed by “bon appétit!”

Princess Tiana Details

For fans of Disney Animation’s “The Princess and the Frog,” there’s even more merchandise celebrating Tiana’s story as she brought her dreams to life. This beautiful jewelry and new signature headband reminiscent of Princess Tiana’s crown are just as pretty as a magnolia in May.

Add a little art deco inspo to your home with beautiful decor featuring patterns of lily pads and Princess Tiana herself.

Shop Before and After You Drop

Starting June 28, you can find the collections for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Disney Animation’s “The Princess and the Frog”-inspired merchandise at the Emporium at Magic Kingdom. 

And, shortly after the attraction debuts, the merchandise will hop over to  Critter Co-Op  in Frontierland where those musical critters Tiana made friends with in the bayou like to hang out in their free time. You may even spot some of their charming makeshift instruments constructed from natural materials and some human-made found objects throughout the shop.  Keep your mobile device handy, because you can use Merchandise Mobile Checkout at both the Emporium and Critter Co-Op.

You can also find some of the tasty treats at the Main Street Confectionary. Mmmm-mm! Not to mention, select items will also be available on  DisneyStore.com  at a later date.

I mean it when I say we’re “almost there” – I can’t wait to ride this thrilling new attraction in my fresh new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure merch.
