The gate is located off the Al Margham exit, Al Ain Road. Turn left over the bridge, drive for 5 minutes and the signed entrance to the DDCR is located on the right.

The camp is set across two characterful spaces with 8 canvas safari tents, each with a comfortable double bed, private decking area, and a rustic desert charm. Cancellation policy

• We understand that plans can change. If they do, please let us know at least 24 hours prior to your activity. We will not be able to process refunds for bookings cancelled less than 24 hours before your activity starts
• Full payment for your booking is required at least two days prior to your activity. If payment is not received before the expected date, we reserve the right to cancel your activity
• In exceptional circumstances, we may have to amend the Overnight Desert Safari schedule, or cancel the activity entirely. We reserve the right to amend and cancel activities in such circumstances, and will ensure we communicate any changes in advance where possible

Is the overnight desert safari suitable for solo travellers?

Absolutely! Both shared vehicle and private vehicle packages are available for solo guests, and accommodation can be reserved by solo travellers too.

How many people does each tent accommodate during the overnight stay?

The tent accommodation is designed to host a maximum of two adults and one child (aged 5-11).

Are special dietary requests accommodated during the stay?

We can accommodate special dietary requirements during your stay with us. All we ask is that you share these in advance, so we can prepare your request accordingly.

What is the entertainment schedule during the overnight desert safari?

We review these requests on a case-by-case basis. Reach out to our team and we’ll try our best to accommodate.

Are there any restrictions on carrying electronic devices to the overnight campsite?

Electronic items such as mobile phones are allowed on the campsite. How else can you get those Insta-worthy shots, right? Your accommodation won’t have any charging points however, so we’d recommend bringing a portable charging pack with you.

We also ask for you to refrain from bringing any items which may be harmful to the wildlife and environment we are looking to protect, like e-cigarettes for example.

What to wear for the overnight desert camping in Dubai?

We suggest wearing leisurely clothes that are easy to move around in, as well as comfortable walking shoes. We also suggest bringing warm clothes as the desert gets cool after sundown!

Is the desert camping experience suitable for children?

Children are welcome to enjoy the desert camping experience with us, under the following circumstances:

• Children under the age of 5 can only be accommodated when the camp is privately booked on an exclusive basis.
• For children under the age of 5, a private vehicle should be reserved for the safari experience and their information shared with us at the time of booking.

Are there vegetarian or vegan meal options available?

We are able to accommodate vegetarian or vegan meal requests when they are shared with our team in advance.

What safety measures are in place at the campsite?

The safety and wellbeing of our overnight guests is a top priority, and we have taken a variety of steps to ensure the overnight experience is comfortable and safe.

A comprehensive risk assessment has been conducted for our campsite facilities and activities, to ensure that potential risks are identified and effectively managed. While you’re camel riding, relaxing by the campfire, and sleeping – know that we have taken precautions to ensure your safety.

Although an emergency of any kind is highly unlikely, we understand the importance of being prepared. We have emergency procedures in place and have trained all our Safari Guides accordingly to put these into practice. Our Guides are also certified in First Aid and have access to first aid kits and defibrillators.

We have also taken steps to ensure fire safety at all times. Our campfire is carefully managed by our Safari Guides, and we have multiple fire extinguishers conveniently located throughout the campsite and the Guides are trained in their use. If the need arises to evacuate, our campsite offers an open plan layout with plenty of safe egress options.

As a rule, we encourage all guests to act in a respectful and mindful way throughout their time with us. We discourage any behaviours which could disrupt any wildlife or compromise personal safety in any way. With this in mind, while we do not prohibit any specific items, we ask our guests to make reasoned judgements about what they bring into the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve.

The Legend of Al Maha

Since history has been recorded, men talked of a wondrous place within the depths of shifting dunes.

Old men told of this place where water flowed from a rock, the perpetual spring fed by ancient underground lakes. Birds gathered in the dense trees, Gazelle hid from the shimmering heat under matted palms, and occasionally even the hardened, elusive Arabian Leopard was seen in the distant mountains.

The desert is an unforgiving place to those who cannot read its signs or understand its subtle warnings. Without the grasses or the palms, the vengeful sands first covered the dry rock pools, then smothered the trees, and finally buried the encampment that had strangled the flow of water from the rock.

Through generations, young adventurers were lost in the shifting sand as they searched for signs of Al Maha. Many trekked over the buried place, only to fall next to their exhausted camels, a noble fate at the end of a fruitless journey.

Confounded by the disobedience of his hunting falcon, a young man followed his bird's movements over the dunes, only to find it perched on a thin branch protruding through the sand. Approaching the bird, the young man's anger turned to curiosity when he noticed small green leaves sprouting from the slender branch. Knowing this was a sure sign of water below, the youth and his brothers later returned to the same place and together they dug away the layers of time.

Finally, after removing a stout wedge in a rocky ledge, the brothers watched as water bubbled out and began to wash the sands away, revealing the ancient walls of the camp. Soon, the lost oasis reformed.

The brothers settled alongside the pools, vowing that never again would any man or animal of the desert be denied the source of all life. Palms and once-lost wild vegetation flourished around the ancient walls and rocky pools. The wild animals returned, but the surest sign of the rebirth of this fabled place was the return of the Arabian Oryx, after which the oasis had always been named.

• Pick-up from Dubai is included and will be in a shared, air-conditioned Land Rover Defender (unless booked otherwise). 
• As the desert can get quite warm, we suggest bringing a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and cool, comfortable clothes. For desert safaris in the winter, we recommend bringing something warm to wear. 
• Not suitable for children as Al Maha does not permit children under ten into the resort. If you would still like to do the Conservation Drive with a child under ten, we can offer an alternative.
• Bookings need to be made at least 13 hours in advance when booking online. For short-term bookings, don't hesitate to get in touch with our reservations team at +971 4 412 6333
• Breakfast consists of a lavish buffet and includes juice, tea and coffee. Please inform us of any dietary requirements when booking so we can inform Al Maha. 
• Bathroom faciities are available at the gate and at Al Maha.
• This experience requires a minimum number of guests to operate. If this experience is cancelled due to minimum guest numbers not being reached, an alternate tour option will be suggested or a full refund will be given.

Fantastic Desert Experience!

Our guide Anzor picked us up right on time at the hotel and told us about the desert with the eye and passion of a true conservationist. We stopped to see the camel racing place and saw interesting animals in the desert. We loved jumping out of the Land Rover to really feel the desert and the heat! Breakfast at the Al Maha Resort was top notch and the staff so warm and welcoming. So nice to get out of the city and learn about the area surrounding Dubai. Highly recommend and bravo to Anzor!

Luxurious Way To See The Desert

We booked with Platinum Heritage for the reviews and exclusive private tour of the desert and breakfast in a breath taking hotel. It really is a lovely relaxing way to see the desert. A drive to the desert with the opportunity to put on traditional head scarf, photo opportunity and then your off to spot wildlife! Throughout the vast desert, keep your eyes peeled for different animals. Plenty of Onyx which are beautiful to see in the wild. We loved that we got to stop off throughout the tour to walk through the dunes and feel the sand between our toes. The breakfast is the hotel was lovely, fresh and good choice of foods to eat. You don’t feel rushed at all and enjoy the surroundings. Special shout out to Saeed who was our tour guide for the day. You taught us so much about the UAE, the desert, the wildlife and traditions. We especially loved all the facts about Camel Racing! Highly recommend to anyone!
