Schedule announced for Australia's tour of India

All five matches of the T20I series will be held in Mumbai with the first two matches to be played at the D.Y. Patil Stadium and the subsequent three at the Cricket Club of India (CCI) Stadium.

Australia could be without their regular captain Meg Lanning, who is currently on an indefinite break from cricket to focus on her mental health after their Commonwealth Games triumph. It was also the last time the two teams met where India fell short by just nine runs in a thrilling final.

The series could be crucial to both sides in the preparation for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa which is now less than three months away. Both the teams are put up in opposite groups. India will be up against England, Ireland, Pakistan and West Indies in Group B while Australia are pitted with Bangladesh, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka in Group A.

India will be hoping to build on the momentum from the Women's Asia Cup triumph and carry it to the marquee event in South Africa in February 2023. Australia, on the other hand, are defending champions and will be looking to win the coveted trophy for the sixth time in the history of the competition.

Australia to play three ODIs in India before World Cup as BCCI announces schedule for 2023-24 home season

Besides Australia, who will stay back for five T20Is after the World Cup, Afghanistan and England are set to tour India for three T20Is and five Tests respectively.

Australia to play three ODIs in India before World Cup as BCCI announces schedule for 2023-24 home season

Five-time world champions Australia are set to play a three-match ODI series in India before the ICC World Cup gets underway, the BCCI announced on Tuesday.

While Australia will tour for three ODIs and five T20Is that take place on either side of the World Cup, England are set to travel to India in the months of January, February and March for a five-Test series.

With the World Cup set to be hosted entirely by India for the first time in its history, the three ODI series could be crucial for the Aussies in getting valuable practice against the Men in Blue and acclimatising themselves to the Indian conditions before the arrival of other teams.

Australia are set to play the three one-dayers in Mohali, Indore and Rajkot 22, 24 and 27 September respectively. The World Cup then takes place between 5 October and 19 November, with India taking on Australia in Chennai during the group stage on 8 October.

Australia will then stay back after the World Cup for a five-T20I series which will take place between 23 November and 3 December.

India then begin the year 2024 with a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan.

That will be followed by a marquee five-Test series against England that starts form 25 January and concludes on 11 March. Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharamsala have been picked as the venues for the series.

1st ODI: 22 September (Mohali) 2nd ODI: 24 September (Indore) 3rd ODI: 27 September (Rajkot)

1st T20I: 23 November (Visakhapatnam) 2nd T20I: 26 November (Thiruvananthapuram) 3rd T20I: 28 November (Guwahati) 4th T20I: 1 December (Nagpur) 5th T20I: 3 December (Hyderabad)

Afghanistan:

1st T20I: 11 January (Mohali) 2nd T20I: 14 January (Indore) 3rd T20I: 17 January (Bengaluru)

1st Test: 25-29 January (Hyderabad) 2nd Test: 2-6 February (Visakhapatnam) 3rd Test: 15-19 February (Rajkot) 4th Test: 23-27 February (Ranchi) 5th Test: 7-11 March (Dharamsala).

IND vs AUS ODI schedule: Full fixtures list, match timings and venues | India v Australia 2023

Australia will tour India for three ODIs ahead of the 2023 World Cup. The series starts on September 22. Here are the IND vs AUS ODI 2023 schedule, full fixtures list, venues and match timings.

Subscribe to the Wisden Cricket YouTube channel for post-match analysis, player interviews, and much more.

During their last tour earlier this year, Australia had snatched the ODI series 2-1 despite losing the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1-2. Since India will host the 2023 World Cup between October 5 and November 19, the series will help Australia to get acclimatised to the conditions.

The ODI series will be played between September 22 and 27, at Mohali, Indore, and Rajkot. Captain Pat Cummins , who has missed most of the ongoing South Africa tour, is set to return as the captain of the 16-member squad.

A World Cup is fast approaching, and as always, Australia have upped their game by a few notches. Their performance in the white-ball tour of South Africa is a testament to that.

After a comprehensive 3-0 whitewash over the home side in the T20I leg, the Australian batters have provided glimpses of their ODI batting approach. Travis Head deserves a special mention for his regular powerplay blitzkriegs. He smashed 64(36) in the second ODI, and with David Warner, helped Australia race to 102-0 after 10 overs.

Australia lead the five-match ODI series 2-1, with two games still to be played.

India have been in a rich vein of form as well. They have cruised to the final of their Asia Cup 2023 campaign with Super Four wins against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The returns of key members like Jasprit Bumrah , KL Rahul , and Shreyas Iyer make the team combinations look as balanced as ever.

Australia’s monster FOUR month India tour revealed as awkward selection dilemma emerges

Australia’s white-ball stars are staring at a possible 12-week tour of India spanning September, October, November and December after the BCCI scheduled a ODI series against India before the World Cup and a five-match T20 series after it.

As workload issues continue to be a source of frustration for both players and selectors the mammoth stay in the subcontinent, after a three month tour of England, could put huge pressure on nominal white-ball captain Pat Cummins.

The BCCI has scheduled the first of three ODIs on September 22, less than two weeks before the World Cup begins on October 5.

Should Australia make the final on November 19, that would already demand a nine-week stay, taking in an early arrival for the pre-tournament ODI series.

Then the last of five T20s is set for December 3, which is just four days before the start of the Big Bash on December 7. National selectors are yet to officially replace Aaron Finch as T20 captain, and after the issues in England it could be too big a load for Cummins to shoulder.

Pat Cummins speaks to Australian Coach Andrew McDonald. (Photo by Ryan Pierse/Getty Images)

The massive time away could hit multi-format stars like Cummins, David Warner, Travis Head, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Mitchell Marsh and bowlers like Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood hard coming on the back of the Ashes tour which also included the World Test Championship final.

Cummins has already shown signs of weariness while both Marsh and Starc remain under an injury cloud ahead of the fifth and final Test of what has been a six-Test tour and he conceded he couldn’t be captain all the time as he plans to play on for a while

“It’s good to have some freshness every X amount of time,” he said.

“If I’ve got seven or eight years, in a perfect world, of Test cricket, I’d be very surprised if I’m captain for the whole time.”.

Green also headed straight to England from India where he starred in the Indian Premier League, having signed a deal worth in excess of $3 million.

The 23-year-old has only had two nights at home in almost six months, having gone to the IPL after Australia’s Test tour of India and has struggled to fire in the Ashes.

Australian coach Andrew McDonald conceded the workload could be impacting him.

“He‘s had a different experience,” McDonald said.

“He’s had the IPL, and people probably draw some conclusions that that’s affected the way he’s gone about things here. But…I think he’s in a good space.

“I think you’ll see a lot of our batters are working on the right things, and the way they go about it runs are just around the corner.”

Australia bowed out in the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup, played in England as part of a monster tour which was followed by the Ashes, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Team India's Full Schedule After 2024 T20 World Cup: Home Series Vs New Zealand To Australia Tour

T eam India is one of the busiest teams and the players are always on the road, either touring another country or hosting a team. Courtesy of the wealth of the talent that India have, the BCCI has the luxury of giving regulars a rest and fielding a second-string team when the selectors feel so.

The same will be the case when India will travel to Zimbabwe right after the 2024 T20 World Cup. The players will not have a long rest and will fly to Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series. Of course, the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and other seniors won't be travelling to Zimbabwe.

As the fans wait for the squad announcement for the Zimbabwe series, here we have a look at Team India's complete schedule after the 2024 T20 World Cup. India will host three teams and make two overseas trips.

After a break of just three days, India and New Zealand will kick off the three-match Test series. Bengaluru, Pune and Mumbai will host the matches from October 16, 24 and November 1, respectively.

The finalists of the men's T20 World Cup 2024 have been decided; we are set for India and South Africa to scrap it out for the title on Saturday morning in Bridgetown, Barbados. Ahead of the big game, ESPNcricinfo is here to answer all the questions you might have about the final.

So India and South Africa it is. How many times have they met in ICC finals? Or a knockout match?

This will be the first time that the two teams meet in the final of a men's ICC tournament. India and South Africa did meet in the 2014 T20 World Cup semi-final , which India won.

Can they be called the two best teams in this tournament?

Well, one can say that the two most in-form teams have made it to the final. Both India and South Africa are unbeaten in the tournament, and both teams topped their respective groups in the group stage and the Super Eight, although South Africa have an extra win under their belt given India's washout against Canada.

Whoever wins the final will be the first team to win a men's T20 World Cup unbeaten.

Which team has taken the tougher route?

South Africa registered wins over Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Netherlands and Nepal in the group stage before beating USA and England in the Super Eight. They faced West Indies in their final Super Eight match, knowing that a defeat would knock them out, but eked out a three-wicket win in a tight contest that was shortened by rain.

After a string of narrow victories, South Africa hammered Afghanistan by nine wickets in the semi-final to march into the final.

India, meanwhile, began their campaign with wins over Ireland, Pakistan and USA. Their perfect record in the group stage was marred by rain, as their game against Canada in Lauderhill was washed out. India started the Super Eight stage with big wins against Afghanistan and Bangladesh and capped it off by beating Australia.

In the semi-final, India put in another comprehensive performance to down England by 68 runs .

In terms of opposition, it could be argued that India faced tougher teams, having to overcome Pakistan, Australia and then England in the semi-final, but South Africa were seriously tested in most games but still found a way.

Okay, so why is this final a big deal for South Africa?

Well, it is a historic occasion for South Africa because it is the first time they will be competing in the final of a men's World Cup, ODI or T20. In fact, apart from winning the inaugural Champions Trophy in 1998 , South Africa have not made the final of any ICC men's tournament.

They have come close on many occasions, reaching the semi-finals in five ODI World Cups (1992, 1999, 2007, 2015, 2023) and two T20 World Cups (2009 and 2014) before this year, but for the first time they have got to within one win of the title.

And why is it important for India?

While India won the first ever T20 World Cup, in 2007 , they are without a World Cup title since 2011 and their last ICC silverware was the 2013 Champions Trophy . They have come close since, reaching the final of the T20 World Cup in 2014, and the semi-finals in 2016 and 2022, as well as the semi-finals of the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups. They also finished runners-up in the two World Test Championship finals - in 2021 and 2023. Last year, they were unbeaten en route to the final in a home ODI World Cup, but faced heartbreak in the final. Less than 12 months later, they have a chance to heal some of those wounds and end their barren run in global events.

When was the last time a World Cup was held in the West Indies?

The 2010 T20 World Cup was the last one hosted by the West Indies. That year's final , between England and Australia, was also played at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.

So what do we know about the pitch and conditions?

Well, this will be the ninth match of the tournament at the venue. The first game here went to a Super Over , but there haven't been any close contests here since.

The teams batting first won three of the next four completed matches at the venue, and Scotland had raced to 90 for no loss in 10 overs against England before that game was called off. The last two matches in Bridgetown had West Indies and England bowling USA out cheaply and completing comfortable chases.

South Africa haven't played here this tournament, but India have had one game here - a 47-run win over Afghanistan .

Wind, is that going to be a factor?

It could be windy, with wind gusts predicted at 35 kmph from the east, going up to 45 kmph. But it probably won't have as much of an influence as it did in Gros Islet when India took on Australia.

The India-England semi-final was affected by rain. What's the Barbados weather forecast looking like for the final?

According to AccuWeather, there are some showers expected, so we may face interruptions. There is a roughly 50% chance of precipitation in the morning between 4am and 9am, but that comes down to roughly 30% between 10am (the scheduled toss time) and 1pm, when it goes up again to roughly 50%. There will be 190 minutes of extra time allotted on Saturday to try and complete the game. Both teams need to bat at least 10 overs for a winner to be declared.

So there is a reserve day?

Yes, the final does have a reserve day. The match will only go into Sunday if at least 10 overs each is not possible on Saturday even with extra time. The game, if already underway, will pick up from where it left off on Saturday, not start from scratch.

Like match day, the scheduled start of play on the reserve day is 10.30am local time. There are some showers forecast for Sunday too, though the forecast for match hours is relatively better (about 20% chance of rain) than what's expected overnight and later in the day.

What happens if we can't get a result even after the reserve day?

If the weather prevents the match from being completed even on the reserve day, both teams shall be declared joint-winners.

And what happens if it's a tie?

A Super Over will decide the result, and if that also ends in a tie, there will be another Super Over and so on until a result is achieved.

If the Super Over is abandoned because of poor weather after a tied game, the two teams will be declared joint winners.

Rinku seals thriller after SKY trumps Inglis ton

Three wickets off three successive deliveries in the final over left India needing one off one, before Rinku calmly bludgeoned a six as Sean Abbott bowled a no-ball

That's that. India take a 1-0 lead but no without a late twist. But the damage was done by Suryakumar Yadav who slammed 80 off 42 balls. If you missed any of the game, Tristan's report will be in soon and you can recap the entire match. That's it from us today. Thanks for tuning in. Until next time, this is me Ashish Pant, signing off on behalf of Himanshu, Thilak and Ranjith. Good night and take care.

Suryakumar Yadav is the player of the match for his 42-ball 80 : Very happy with the way the boys displayed the talent on the field. We were put under pressure, but the way everyone came back into the game, was great. [Captaincy] I think it's a proud moment, whenever you play cricket, you think of representing India, it will take some time to sink in but very proud. [Thought at mid-innings] I just felt there will be some dew but, there was none. I knew the ground was small. We thought we will be chasing 230, but the bowlers put us back. We just wanted to be positive. [Batting] Just enjoy and express yourself. I told Kishan one thing, just keep batting, don't think of the target. After 10 overs, it was a tailor-made situation. We knew what would happen later on. I left the [captaincy] luggage in the dressing room. I just tried to enjoy my batting, whether I am batting 10 or 40 balls. There was great support from the ground. [Message after he got out] I told them not to take the the game too deep. The way the boys kept their nerve was great to see. It was a tailor-made situation for Rinku. His composure relaxed me also. [Mukesh's last over] The way all three fast bowlers pulled us back into the game after 16 overs. Incredible achievement.

Matthew Wade, the Australia captain : It was a good match in the end. Inglis played a terrific innings. The young Indian players played a great innings. [At mid-innings] Just to control what we can control. We had plans, but it is easier said that done. We bowled pretty well. Behrendorff and Sangha were great. A lot of positives to take out of it. I was speaking to him [Inglis] if he wanted to go down, don't think that will happen. A great knock. [After Surya's wicket] We wanted to hang in. Ellis bowled a great over. It got down to the last ball. All credit to us and teh boys for hanging in.

Here's Ashish for the presentations.

Ishan Kishan : "Bowlers did a great job. We were put under pressure... Credit to Mukesh Kumar, the way he bowled. Everyone was eager to do well for the team, especially Rinku - it was his first game against a big team. Credit goes to Surya bhai for the way he played. He was taking on the bowlers... Plan was to give just 15-odd runs to the bowlers. The ball in which I got out, he was asking me to take a single. The communication was very good. Really happy because it's a young side. We'll make mistakes, but hopefully we'll come back stronger as a bowling unit."

10.45pm India go 1-0 up in a thrilling start to the T20I series. Stand-in captain Suryakumar leads the show with 80 from only 42 balls - that included nine fours and four sixes - with Kishan cracking 58 off 39, and young Rinku finishing it off in the fashion he showed in the IPL this year. Looking back, that crucial last over bowled by Mukesh Kumar ends up making a big difference, as Inglis' 110 goes in vain.

six over long-on! We've seen this sight before: Rinku finishing a T20 off with a six. But, and for whatever that's worth, it was a no-ball, so the six won't count; only the run off the no-ball will. Abbott bowled right in the slot around middle stump, inviting Rinku to loft down the ground. He went ahead, and ended up depositing the ball way beyond the boundary

1 from 1. Rinku on strike, with Mukesh at the other end.

Sumesh: "Super over"

another run-out chance! And by Abbott and Arshdeep's reactions, the latter could be short. But the third umpire will confirm. Wow, he is well short! India lose three wickets in three balls. It was a short delivery around middle and leg, as Rinku had a swing with a pull shot. The ball went wide of long-on, whose throw to Abbott was a little wide of the stumps. But Abbott took it and banged the stumps to find Arshdeep short

Malik Murad: "A twist in the tale. What a match!"

Bishnoi is run-out at the bowler's end! But importantly for India, Rinku will be on strike next ball. Abbott bowled it short outside off, getting it to climb sharply. Bishnoi looked to pull but missed, and the batters ran almost blindly. Wade had a go at the stumps at his end but missed; but Abbott collected the throw, and hit the stumps at the other end to find Bishnoi short

Bishnoi on strike. India need 2 from 3 balls.

Abbott takes a good catch to keep India waiting! He ended quite a few steps behind from where he delivered the ball, with the ball dropping over his shoulder. Axar looked to pull this shortish ball around middle and off, but got a top edge. The ball popped up, and with the mid-on fielder almost rushing in, Abbott did well

great catch by Hardie! He seemed to be placed at mid-on, as he turned around and sprinted towards long-on. The ball was dropping over his shoulder, as he dived forward to nab that. It was a knuckle ball which trapped Surya, as Behrendorff bowled on a length, angling it across off. Surya was deep in the crease, and also across, lofting it with little timing

Australia officially eliminated from T20 World Cup after Mitchell Starc makes ugly cricket history

Australia went down to india by 24 runs, before afghanistan sealed their elimination by beating bangladesh..

Australia have been eliminated from the T20 World Cup after Mitchell Starc and the Aussie bowlers were punished by Rohit Sharma and India on Monday. Needing a win to advance to the semi-finals, the Aussies went down by 24 runs in St Lucia.

It meant Afghanistan could knock Australia out of the tournament if they beat Bangladesh on Monday night (Tuesday morning Aussie time), and they claimed a stunning eight-run win later in the night. A Bangladesh win would have saved Australia's blushes and seen them advance, but the Tigers fell agonisingly short in a thrilling final match of the Super 8 stage.

Australia only have themselves to blame after some woeful fielding in their shock loss to Afghanistan - which was compounded on Monday when their bowlers were absolutely hammered. Starc conceded the most runs in an over in his T20 international career, going for 29 in six balls as Rohit went large.

The Indian star smashed 92 from 41 balls to help India post 5-205 while batting first, before Travis Head's 76 gave Australia some hope. But the Aussies could only muster 7-181 in reply and must now rely on Bangladesh beating Afghanistan.

"C'mon Bangladesh," Aussie captain Mitch Marsh quipped after Australia's loss. "It's disappointing. We're still technically a chance to go through to the semis but today, India got the better of us. Ultimately they were the better team."

Rohit Sharma takes Aussie bowlers to task

Rohit smashed 29 off the third over of the game off Starc, who was was recalled to the team in place of spinner Ashton Agar. Starc went for 2-45 off his four overs, but he wasn't alone in copping punishment.

Pat Cummins (0-48 off our), Adam Zampa (0-41 off four) and Marcus Stoinis (2-56 off four) all went at more than 10 an over. In a brutal display of hitting, Rohit smashed eight sixes and seven fours, clearing the boundary over cover and mid-wicket with a mixture of timing and power.

He made 50 off just 19 balls - the fastest half-century against Australia ever - and India were 1-52 when he brought up the milestone. Only Josh Hazlewood was able to slow India down, taking 1-14 off his four and appearing as if he was bowling on a different pitch.

Hazlewood managed to snare the key wicket of Virat Kohli for a duck, contunuing the Indian superstar's lean run with the bat. Starc also did well to rebound late and bowled Rohit with a yorker, but by then the damage was done.

"That's what I have to do at the top of the order, see what the bowlers are trying to do and play accordingly," said Rohit, who was named player of the match. "Bowlers are smart, so you have to open up all sides of the field. That was what was going through my mind."

David Warner's brutal moment in potential final innings

David Warner was out for just six in Australia's batting innings in what turned out to be his last dig in international cricket. Marsh offered some hope with a captain's knock of 37 from 28 balls, but the match swung when he was caught by a jumping Axar Patel on the boundary.

Pat Cummins creates World Cup history after 'unthinkable' act

Pucovski 'not expected to return' in sad retirement development

Glenn Maxwell also provided Head some support when he struck 15 off his first four balls, but was bowled by a Kuldeep Yadav (2-24) wrong'un on 20 after charging down the pitch. Head threatened to repeat his heroics from the ODI World Cup final against India from last year, but was eventually caught trying to take on Jasprit Bumrah.

"We had belief when you think about who we had in the changerooms," Marsh said. "If you can keep it at 10 (needed an over) for as long as you possibly can, you're well and truly in the game. But India had some class bowlers at the end that were too good for us."

India head into the semi-finals undefeated and will now face England in the final four. India will be looking for revenge after being knocked out by the defending champions at the same stage in 2022. Afghanistan will take on South Africa for an unlikely place in the final.

Going solo for a T20 World Cup semi-final

In an astroturfed gazebo at the back of a cricket stadium in South America were four men: England's white-ball coach, media manager and head of security, and me. It is a privilege to travel around the world covering this sport but Thursday's T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final was about as surreal as it gets.

My colleague Sidharth Monga and I decided which semi-finals we would cover in April: Sid would go to Trinidad , I'd head to Guyana. Even then, hotel availability was limited and flights back and forth from Barbados were scarce; even more so once the ICC publicly confirmed that India would play in the second semi-final if they progressed, regardless of their finishing position in the Super Eight.

No wonder, then, that when the rest of the touring England press pack attempted to book trips at less than three days' notice - when England's semi-final destination was decided - they had little joy. Mike Atherton juggled TV commentary with his work for the Times , while Alex Davidson and Gareth Copley were there on behalf of Getty Images. But for the UK written press alone, it was just me.

It led to a strange few days. The day before the game, I realised I was likely to be the only journalist who would ask Rohit Sharma whether India's predetermined semi-final was an advantage to them, and what he made of the lack of a reserve day with rain in the forecast. Immediately after he shrugged the question off, I put an AirPod in to listen to Matthew Mott's Zoom call with my colleagues in Bridgetown; I hope Rohit didn't notice.

Guyana's rich cricketing legacy and its obvious association with West Indies can obscure its unique status as the only major cricketing nation in South America, on account of Britain's colonial rule in the 19th century. It is a rapidly-developing country after the recent discovery of 11 billion barrels of oil off the coast and much of the capital city, Georgetown, is under construction as a result.

The semi-final itself was a bizarre spectacle. I spent 12 hours at the Providence Stadium, arriving early to beat the traffic on the advice of my taxi driver, Nigel. He made two predictions while dropping me off: "Cricket will play, and England will take licks." So it proved , despite heavy showers throughout the morning.

The crowd was poor for a World Cup semi-final, which was no surprise. Guyana requires Indian visitors to apply for a visa, a lengthy process which disincentivises travel, and England supporters suffered from the same issues as the press pack. Reece Topley's dad, Don, made it, as did a couple of hardcore fans who belted out the national anthem on the grass banks.

But the locals largely stayed away, for two obvious reasons. One, they had no dog in the fight: as with the rest of the Caribbean, Guyanese interest in the World Cup fell sharply with West Indies' elimination on Sunday. And two, the game was due to start at 10.30am on a Thursday, local time. It reflects the reality of cricket's economic model and its reliance on Indian broadcast revenue, but it is a hard sell to fans who would have to take a day off work to attend.

The result was that only around 7,000 tickets were sold, per an ICC estimate - plus some free ones distributed to sponsors and teams. This, in a stadium which seats 15,000 people and becomes a cricketing carnival during the Caribbean Premier League: it reinforced the fact that World Cups are increasingly products for TV viewers rather than matchgoing fans.

As I stood in the mixed zone tent behind the media centre, asking Mott questions for 10 minutes - some my own, others on behalf of colleagues - I could not escape the feeling that this was a strange semi-final of a strange World Cup. There may never be another quite like it.
