Jorge Chavez International Airport Guide

Jorge Chavez International Airport

Named after a famous Peruvian aviator, the Jorge Chavez International Airport is the main point of entry and departure in Peru for global and domestic travelers. It's located in Callao, a coastal city of Peru and an important port within the Lima metropolitan region. Operating internationally since 1960, the airport has major plans to expand what is currently a single terminal and runway facility.

Here's everything you need to know about navigating Lima’s Jorge Chavez airport.

Jorge Chavez International Airport Code, Location, and Contact Information

  • Airport code: LIM
  • Address: Av. Elmer Faucett s/n, Callao 07031
  • Airport Website: https://www.lima-airport.com/eng
  • Flight Status: https://www.lima-airport.com/eng/for-passengers/flights-and-airlines/flight-status
  • Phone Number: (01) 5173501

Know Before You Go

The Jorge Chavez International Airport is diminutive in comparison to other airports found in metropolitan cities, such as Los Angeles’ LAX or New York’s JFK . That said, the two-floor airport is one of the busiest in South America (in 2018, it served over 22.1 million passengers ). Due to its modest size and simple layout, the Lima airport is easy to navigate—check-in counters are visible upon entry; a single set of escalators, stairs, and an elevator lead to the second floor for customs and departure gates—it’s just a matter of getting around the crowds.

Jorge Chavez Parking

Though most international travelers will likely be taking a taxi to and from the airport, rest assured that there are options for short-stay and prolonged parking in case you need it. Upon entrance to the airport’s property, drivers receive an entry ticket that's used to track total parking time. There are designated spaces for prolonged parking (24 hours or more) on the right side of the entrance, though most of the parking lot is dedicated to short-term and staff parking.

When ready to exit the parking lot, drivers can cancel their parking fee at one of the automatic pay stations (just steps from the Arrivals exit) using their ticket stub and paying in cash (Peruvian soles or U.S. dollars). Short-stay fees are as follows: 5.20 soles for 45 minutes or less; 7 soles for 46 to 60 minutes; and 7 soles per each additional hour. For prolonged parking, the fee is 49 soles per 24 hours.

Driving Directions

Let’s be honest: Commuting to and from the Lima airport will not be a highlight of your Peru trip. A subpar roundabout just beyond the premises of the airport has little to no effect upon the infamous Lima traffic.

Located north of the San Isidro, Miraflores, and Barranco districts (the latter being the furthest away), tourists should plan on leaving at least one hour before they are expected to check in at the airport. Keep in mind that rush hour(s) in Lima is from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Drive north along the Costa Verde (Lima’s coastal highway) until reaching the Calle Mariscal Agustin Gamarra exit in San Miguel. Then, take Av. Rafael Escardó to Av. La Marina, one of Lima’s largest avenues that heads east-west. About five minutes later (depending on traffic), turn right onto Av. Elmer Faucett; you'll continue north for nearly 4 miles before arriving at the airport entrance, visible on your left.

Public Transportation and Taxis

Due to traffic and unfixed schedules, taking a public bus (or micro ) to the Lima airport poses a great risk for travelers. It’s worth the extra money to coordinate a shuttle or taxi pick-up to avoid missing your flight.

Shuttles to and from the Lima Airport are available through third-party companies. QuickLlama is a reliable option that offers door-to-door pick-up and drop-off services for those staying or living in the Miraflores district. Prices start at $5 and the departure times are fixed. Large groups can also request a private shuttle.

For those who are temporarily based in another district and are looking for a trusted shuttle with a flexible schedule, Gringo Taxi offers private services for individuals and groups throughout the city of Lima. The prices are steeper (starting at $26 from Barranco to Jorge Chavez International Airport), but they can also organize pick-ups and drop-offs in the city of Cusco, eliminating stress for many travelers who come to Peru solely to visit Machu Picchu .

If taking a taxi, be sure to ask your hotel for a reputable contact or use a ridesharing app instead. The fee should be no more than 60 soles.

Where to Eat and Drink

Only two establishments in the Lima airport do a fair job of reminding international guests that they are about to leave (or have just arrived to) one of the world’s top gastronomic destinations.

Tanta is one of the many restaurants that belong to Peru’s first celebrity chef, Gaston Acurio. Overlooking the hustle and bustle that is the Lima airport, the restaurant is located directly to the left of the escalators that lead to the customs area on the second floor. Travelers can enjoy a surprisingly calm space while eating classic Peruvian dishes —arroz con pollo (chicken and rice) and lomo saltado (stir-fried beef), for example—paired with a cheeky pisco sour. A meal for two with drinks can average around 100 soles.

International travelers can also indulge at La Bonbonniere , located near Gate 24. Ideal for a pre-flight breakfast or a filling pasta dish, be aware that the space is small and tables fill up quickly. The service is one of the best you will find in the airport.

Travelers on a budget (or short on time) can look for the standard airport grab-and-go stands or fast food, from McDonald’s to Peru’s popular roasted chicken chain, Pardos .

Airport Lounges

There are a handful of lounges in the Lima airport , all located airside. From free Wi-Fi to buffets, bars, and business centers, the offerings found in each are standard for an airport lounge.

Sumaq is located in the international departures area, across from Gate 17. The lounge is spacious, with showers to freshen up before a flight, a sleeping room to catch a nap or meditate, and a play area for kids. Keep in mind that guests are limited to two alcoholic drinks (first one is free) and that entrance is allowed up to three hours before your scheduled flight. This lounge operates 24 hours.

The best (relaxing) bang for your buck? The Spa Express, located on the second floor in a public area. You can get a 30-minute massage for less than $15, as well as other skin and nail care services.

Wi-Fi and Charging Stations

At the moment, Jorge Chavez International Airport is not equipped for connectivity. Currently, charging stations are scattered throughout the airport, with multiple passengers having to share one station to charge their phones. There are also no tables or small desks where you can set up a laptop or tablet; if you want to take advantage of a long layover by getting some work done, you will want to invest in a pass to one of the lounges.

Along with a plan for expansion, the Jorge Chavez International Airport intends to provide greater Wi-Fi services for travelers. As of now, travelers are provided 15 minutes of free Wi-Fi, after which they must pay for additional time with a credit card. At a rate of $6 an hour, travelers are better off buying a coffee from the airport Starbucks (landside) and using the cafe’s internet (or doing so from nearly any of the restaurants with seating).

Jorge Chavez Tips and Tidbits

  • In urgent need of a prepaid cell phone? Purchase or even rent a mobile phone from the small Claro store—but be prepared to pay a much higher price than you would in the city.
  • If you're looking to book a hotel near the airport, Wyndham Costa del Sol is connected to the airport by a sky bridge, and a Holiday Inn is located directly across the street.
  • If you're newly arrived, you'll want to exchange only enough of your currency to Peruvian soles to pay for your taxi or shuttle. The exchange rates are far better in the city.
  • Stop by Kuna, a luxury knitwear brand that works with alpaca wool, for one last souvenir. The shop is located on the second floor, in the direction of the cafeteria.

César Chávez’s grandson champions a new national park to speak to Latino history

Although Andrés Chávez never got to meet his grandfather César Chávez, who died just nine months before he was born, he spends his waking hours ensuring that the legacy of the legendary labor organizer continues.

For the record:

1:10 p.m. June 12, 2023 An earlier version of this newsletter incorrectly stated Andrés Chávez’s affiliation with the Cesar Chavez Foundation. He is executive director of the National Chavez Center, a subsidiary of the foundation. We have also clarified the work of the National Chavez Center.

At age 29, Andrés is executive director of the National Chavez Center in Keene, Calif., a subsidiary and programmatic effort of the Cesar Chavez Foundation , which seeks to continue the labor leader’s work on behalf of Latinos and working families. The National Chavez Center manages the César E. Chávez National Monument in collaboration with the National Park Service, and also preserves César’s legacy through educational and cultural programs and managing César’s intellectual property. (Andrés started volunteering for the foundation at age 10, marching in picket lines, attending union conventions and going to commemorations honoring his grandfather.)

Andrés Chávez stands in front of an image of his grandfather and other protesters.

Now, Andrés is endorsing a bill introduced by U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla and Rep. Raul Ruiz , both California Democrats, proposing creation of the César E. Chávez and the Farmworker Movement National Historical Park. It would exist in three noncontiguous sites — the Santa Rita Center in Phoenix; Forty Acres in Delano, Calif.; and the already-existing 187-acre César E. Chávez National Monument in Keene, an unincorporated area in the Tehachapi Mountains that includes Chávez ’s historic homestead, La Nuestra Señora Reina de la Paz, which is the former headquarters for the United Farm Workers of America.

“He named it La Paz after Our Lady of Peace, because it had that picturesque mountain setting,” Andrés says. “It was that one place he could go and recharge his spiritual batteries after being constantly engaged in conflict and in picket line strikes and negotiation.”

Andrés hopes the proposed park will provide recreational opportunities that honor his grandfather’s love for hiking and meditation, which he did every morning. Chávez was a devout Catholic who also practiced Zen Buddhism and yoga, and followed a vegetarian and macrobiotic diet.

If the legislation is successful, it would not only create the national park but also set in motion a study for the creation of the Farmworker Peregrinación National Historic Trail, in honor of the 300-mile protest march by farmworkers and supporters from Delano, Calif., to Sacramento in 1966.

The name of the proposed park makes clear that it is not just about one legendary organizer but also about the force of a group.

“The farmworker movement was probably the broadest coalition in the history of the American civil rights movement,” Andrés says. “Filipinos and Latinos joined forces in the 1965 to 1970 Delano grape strike, and later, 17 million Americans boycotted grapes in the 1970s. UFW actions would often bring together a cross-section of America. It was not uncommon to find antiwar college students and prowar construction workers on the same picket line.”

Visitors to the sites would bear witness to important historic events in Chávez’s life, as well as in the lives of farmworkers. In Phoenix, they would stroll through Santa Rita Hall , the Arizona center for union activities where Chávez fasted for 24 days in 1972, protesting a new state law that prohibited the formation of units for collective bargaining. An hour from Keene, at 40 Acres in Delano, visitors would learn about Agbayani Village , an affordable retirement community for Filipino farmworkers. There, they’d also find the story of Chávez’s last fast in 1988, which lasted for 36 days, to protest pesticide poisoning of farmworkers and their children. (Although the latter is part of the national monument, not all buildings are regularly available for tours. Creation of the national historical park would provide funding to increase tours and exhibits.)

A man in a white shirt stands with a group of children.

Andrés believes the national historical park would help visitors of color, particularly young ones, see the power they hold in their hands. “César’s life as an individual wasn’t different from a lot of kids, especially young kids of color today,” Andrés says. “He wasn’t born into a rich or powerful family, and he never made more than $7,000 a year, yet he showed that with hard work and fierce determination that change was possible.”

To Andrés, a national historical park named after his tata , or grandpa, would send a particularly vital message to Latino visitors. “There are not a lot of sites that speak particularly to Latino history within the National Park Service,” Andrés says. “[César Chávez National Monument] is currently the only site named for a contemporary Latino figure within all 428 units of the National Park Service. It’s important for Latinos to see people who look like themselves recognized in American history. A lot of Latino students don’t get access to the outdoors, and it’s an opportunity for kids to escape their communities and come to the site to breathe in fresh air and run around.”

A group of people and a dog go for a walk.

I told Andrés about a 2012 study titled “ Why Do So Few Minority People Visit National Parks? ” The study quoted two other studies, one showing that Asian Americans, Hispanics and especially African Americans reported uncomfortable encounters in parks, and another documenting that some white park visitors experience discomfort around nonwhite visitors. And, per the Merrell “ Inclusivity in the Outdoors ” report, some Latin American visitors said they felt watched while at parks. They also felt that ranger uniforms could feel threatening, especially when paired with firearms and protective gear.

This is why it’s crucial to “diversify the ranks,” Andrés says. “By one count, when it came to Latino superintendents — the chiefs at individual sites — there were only four of them in the entire National Park Service. At the César Chávez National Monument, we have a young Latina named Miranda Hernandez as our educational and interpretation ranger, which is incredible because the students see themselves in her.”

I read some additional stats to Andrés from the Merrell report: 28% of Latin American respondents have experienced discrimination while outdoors. And although 46% of Hispanic/Latin American people said they felt alive when experiencing the outdoors, 13% said they felt cautious at these times — the highest of all groups that responded.

A man stands on a porch, speaking to a group of people.

“I’m disappointed to hear that discrimination stat of 28% — but the fact is, Latinos love the outdoors,” he told me. “When we go places, we bring not only our immediate family, but Grandma and Grandpa come too, and it becomes a family affair. But we need to think about intentionality.” To do that, Andrés says the Park Service should increase exhibits and programming that speak to people of color and Latinos.

There’s a larger purpose here too: “About 30% of Americans will come from Latino background by 2050 and yet the national parks are woefully behind when it comes to telling our story,” he adds.

That could begin to change if the bill is approved by Congress (so far, it’s been introduced only in the Senate) and then signed by President Biden.

César wasn’t perfect — as many of us know, he certainly had his faults , which have damaged his almost saintly image — but his work and determination, in collaboration with other farmworkers and organizers such as Dolores Huerta, brought about vital and revolutionary civil rights.

A man in a white shirt and other protesters hold signs.

Andrés says that if the national park opens, visitors will find powerful inspiration in his grandfather’s story of dogged determination and against-all-odds success. “The fact of the matter is he faced more defeat than victory, but it was about how he responded to defeat. When people told him, ‘No, you can’t,’ he said, ‘Si, se puede.’ There’s a universal truth to that.”

3 things to do

A couple kiss as they take a picture to celebrate Juneteenth at a park.

1. Join Juneteenth celebrations across the city. Juneteenth is fast approaching, and the outdoor celebrations are plenty. On June 10, the central branch of the Los Angeles Public Library will host its June Jubilee, featuring genealogy assistance, financial literacy classes, poetry and literature, quilting workshops, kids’ events and more. (Check out related activities at branches of the library , including reading circles, author events and ice cream making.) The shopping and dining complex Runway Playa Vista throws its celebration on June 10 too. On June 17, you can attend celebrations in Santa Monica and Long Beach . On June 18, the California African Art Museum is hosting a Juneteenth wellness event featuring yoga and a sound bath, and on June 19, Leimert Park is throwing a block party.

Two people visiting a tide pool are silhouetted against the setting sun.

2. Immerse yourself in the vibrancy of tide pools. If you’re fascinated by Southern California’s tide pools and their teeming marine life, including striped shore crabs, sea stars, anemones, mussels, urchins, limpets, periwinkles, chitons and barnacles, consider attending a free tide pool talk at the Robert J. Lagomarsino Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center in Ventura Harbor. The 30-minute talks happen at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday, and no reservation or registration is required. Contact the visitor center for more info.

People stroll through a park as golden light bathes the path.

3. Hike Griffith Park at sunset with Queer Ecology. This 4.5-mile, 400-foot elevation sunset hike will offer a view of the Santa Monica Mountains to the west and Griffith Observatory and DTLA to the southeast. Along the way, host Jason “Journeyman” Wise will lead a conversation on queer ecology. But what exactly is that? Wise answers it best: “Most of all it’s a discussion about how human society defines the natural world within its own cultural structures and limits, and how learning from nature can help free us from those unnatural rules.” Reserve a free spot here .

The must-read

A silhouette of a fir tree at sunset.

I finished reading this Outside story by thru-hiker Heather Anderson late one night when I couldn’t sleep, and part of me wondered whether I was hallucinating. What kind of person stumbles over endless rocks in the cold, wet dark, sighting her way through the forest with a headlamp at 3 a.m., sleepless for five nights just so she can achieve the “FKT,” or fastest known time on a trail?

Anderson recently made a comeback to thru-hiking, hustling her way through the 250-mile Pennsylvania section of the Appalachian Trail to complete it unsupported in four days, 14 hours. While some of us dream of just finishing the Pacific Crest Trail, the Continental Divide Trail or the Appalachian Trail, Anderson completed all three in 2018 (a feat known as the Triple Crown). When she returned home, she discovered that her sister had advanced lung cancer, to which she lost her. Fighting grief, adrenal fatigue and impostor syndrome that led her to fear that she wasn’t a “real athlete,” she found new mental resiliency in letting go. On the Pennsylvania section of the Appalachian Trail, she struggled with tough conditions but practiced being “curious and grateful rather than demanding and controlling.”

Anderson says she felt complete regardless of her FKT accomplishments — because hiking the trails in record time was about her character not her times: “In the rocks, I finally realized that FKTs are not the path forward. They are a path I enjoy traveling because they allow me to express the happiness, potential and contentment that reside within me. I could finally see that, with them or without them, I was complete — and stronger than I would ever fully understand. They exist as small windows through which I can glimpse my own ability — opportunities for me to hone the mental resiliency needed to navigate this lifetime.”

This was an encouraging, savvy read that made me feel not only motivated to hike but also propelled to find peace in other parts of life. Congrats, Heather, on what you found “in the rocks.”

Happy adventuring,

Even thru-hikers need days that are zeros. In other words, days where they log zero miles and choose to rest. Lately, I’ve struggled with an elbow injury that’s prevented me from climbing as much as I’d like (my orthopedist prefers that it be not at all). I’m trying to take the advice I gave myself quite a few newsletters ago to slow down , and to maybe focus on hiking instead of climbing, but it’s been (really) hard. I’m itching to get on the wall and to get outside.

Then, while I was slurping up a succulent boba from pop-up Cassava & Tea at Wondery x Touchstone Climbing x Queer Crush’s “Climb With Pride” event (I was there for the shopping, snacks and scrunchies, not to boulder), a pal asked if I’d join their group for a marathon, or even a half-marathon or a 5k along the ocean next year. I’ve never been a distance runner, but it made me think about how I could refocus my energy in the next few months if my elbow injury persists. A 5k is fun and wouldn’t stress my elbow, and I felt like I was swimming in waves of palpable joy when I ran the Alhambra Pumpkin Run with costumed dinosaurs and men in tutus last October (the energy I experienced was similar to what I felt at Bay to Breakers in San Francisco). I’ve also been thinking about mountain biking some simple beginner trails. All of this when the weather cools down, of course (train with me in October?).

The deep anxiety of not being able to do the thing you love most can challenge your notion of self and make your inner voice quaver, or it can help you find some strange and wonderful resilience. I’m hoping it’s the latter for me, and for you too, whatever personal challenges you’re facing.

America Chavez: Everything You Need To Know About The Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Character

America Chavez is Miss America

If Marvel bringing Sam Raimi on as its new director was not enough to get you excited for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, you should at least be impressed with the remarkable who’s who of characters expected to appear. Along with Benedict Cumberbatch returning in the title role is Wanda “Scarlet Witch” Maximoff, Rachel McAdams as Dr. Christine Palmer, and America Chavez - a name previously unfamiliar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but likely a source of excitement for many comic book fans.

It was announced earlier in December 2020 that 14-year-old actress Xochitl Gomez , known for Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club series, was cast as the young heroine otherwise known as Miss America for her MCU debut. Once the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel hits theaters on its expected date of March 25, 2022, the character will have been around for just a little more than a decade. That being said, there is plenty that the average moviegoer may not know about America Chavez that the devoted comic book fan does and, as any devoted comic book fan should know, there is a lot to learn about her.

While there is plenty of time to brush up on your knowledge of newer Marvel Comics characters before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness comes out, now is still as good as time as ever to prepare. Without further ado, the following is a list of five essential facts you should know about America Chavez, starting with the unusual world that she once called home.

America Chavez with her mothers in the Utopian Parallel

America Chavez Was Born In The Utopian Parallel

Created by writer Joe Casey and artist Drew Dragotta, America Chavez debuted in July 2011 in the first issue of Vengeance , which sees her join Teen Brigade… but more on that later . Eventually, it is revealed she comes from a dimension called the Utopian Parallel, which you could almost think of as Marvel’s own Themyscira for being entirely inhabited by women. It is also has no real perception of time and is ruled by the Demiurge - the sentient life-force which created it.

When America was just six years old (by human approximation), the Utopian Parallel was on the verge of destruction by the appearance of black holes pulling it in all different directions across the Multiverse. Fortunately, the young girl was able to escape the dimension before its demise and became its sole survivor, which she achieved by using one of her handiest superpowers.

America Chavez traveling

America Chavez Can Travel To Different Dimensions, Among Other Abilities

It is said that absorbing the magical presence of the Demiurge gave America Chavez her superpowers - including creating interdimensional portals - the key to her Utopian Parallel escape a clue as to how she may fit into the story of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness . Of course, she can do much more than that. In fact, she may even be able to do more than she realizes.

Among the additional abilities that America Chavez is currently aware that she has are flight, superhuman speed, super strength, complete invulnerability, and projecting devastating energy blasts. Her only known weakness is the demonic race called La Legion, which once invaded Fuertona - the planet she is a descendant of. She also has more humanly relatable abilities, such as speaking both English and Spanish, thanks to her cultural identity as a Latina.

America Chavez and her girlfriend Lisa Halloran

America Chavez Is A Teenage Latina And LGBTQ+ Icon

In only so much time since her debut, America Chavez is known as one of the more important newer Marvel characters in Marvel Comics for her cultural representation. Despite extra-dimensional origins, when she first came to Earth-616, she was taken in by a Puerto Rican family who informed her ethnic identity. Yet, she represents more than just race.

Her comic book introduction suggests her romantic ties to Teen Brigade co-leader, Ultimate Nullifier, but America Chavez would later admit that was mostly experimental. She now identifies as a lesbian who most notably shared a romance with Lisa Halloran - a former paramedic and colleague of Jane Foster who went on to join Damage Control. America has also been known to flirt with Kate Bishop, Clint Barton’s successor of the Hawkeye alias, while fighting together as part of the Young Avengers.

Miss America and the Young Avengers

America Chavez Has Joined Young Avengers And Other Superhero Teams

With Kate Bishop ( played by Hailee Steinfeld ) leading Hawkeye and America Chavez joining in, MCU might be form its own Young Avengers. However, this is far from the only superhero collective on Miss America she has proved her skills as a team player.

As previously mentioned, America Chavez first appeared as a new recruit of Teen Brigade before joining the Young Avengers, but would also become a member of the all-female A-Force - which was paid tribute to (or potentially teased for later) in the third act of Avengers: Endgame . She has even fought alongside alternate versions of the Avengers team as from various dimensions. That being said, the possibilities these powerful teen can bring to the MCU seem unlimited - such as a cameo by her Golden Age predecessor, perhaps?

Madeline Joyce as Miss America

America Chavez Is The Second To Use The Miss America Moniker

I would not describe America Chavez as a successor to anyone, given her unique origins, but her superhero alias is not entirely unique. The first Miss America ( the alter ego of government agent Madeline Joyce ) was created by Otto Binder and Al Gabriel in 1943. She practically served as a female answer to Captain America , with the patriotic costume and similar enhanced abilities (save self-propelled flight).

Passing the moniker to America Chavez seems like a natural transition. Not because of her first name, but what she represents about America itself as someone with great power and pride, not only for who she is now, but where she came before acquiring her freedom as citizen of the United States. She is just the character that comic book movie audiences need to look up to and at no better time than now.

What do you think? Does Xochitl Gomez have what it takes to be the next great role model for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Miss America? The Meandering Traveler

A Travel Blog with Travel Tips and Interesting Facts

Pavlus’ Travel Advisor Pam Chavez Picks Trips She’d Love to Take!

Pam Chavez, experienced travel planner with Pavlus Travel, picks three personal trips she'd love to take. Photo by Pam Chavez.

When it’s time for Pam Chavez , an 18-year veteran of Pavlus Travel , to head out and explore the world, the expert travel advisor loves visiting Italy, Ireland and Peru . Why those destinations in particular? She sums it up succinctly: “The beauty, the people, the history and the food.”

As for her professional career, she’s spent 35 years working in the travel industry. Twelve of those years were in corporate travel before arriving at Pavlus. So, she’s an expert at many types of travel arrangements. Today, she works remotely in  Albuquerque, NM, for the full-service travel agency .

Her specialty is helping consumers plan a luxury tour or luxury cruise vacation. Chavez tells The Meandering Traveler that she handles many bookings for such upscale brands as Tauck, Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises , along with other luxury options. When asked why she likes those brands, she’s quick to respond: “You’re well taken care of!”

It’s always interesting to find out what a personal travel planner sees as among the top options in the marketplace today. What trips would they personally love to take this year or in 2024? We eagerly awaited Chavez’s responses, and here’s the scoop.

Travel Advisor Pick: “Essence of Japan”

First up, Chavez says she’d like to head out on Tauck’s 13-day “ Essence of Japan. ” This escorted land tour is available both as a classic tour and also as a small group option. Among the many enticing cultural and heritage activities to help travelers make a “deep dive” into Japanese culture are these:

  • In Kyoto , Tauck’s guests will enjoy a private home visit with tea ceremony and origami demonstration. They’ll also explore with a local Geisha expert. And they’ll visit Nijo Castle, Kinkaku-ji Temple and the Pure Water Temple (Kiyomizu Temple).
  • Guests will also stay multiple nights at premier hotels in Tokyo , Kyoto, Hakone and at a hot springs resort and spa in Matsumoto.
  • Other fun tour activities will include a visit to Tokyo’s Edo-Tokyo Museum and guests will witness Kagura dancing, taiko drums and sumo wrestling.
  • During a relaxing cruise on Lake Ashi , they’ll also marvel at the stunningly gorgeous, snow-capped Mt. Fuji .
  • In addition, they’ll visit an open-air museum and attend a flower arranging class in Hakone.

Desire to learn more? Well, here’s a complete look at this robust itinerary around Japan . Departures are available in 2023 on multiple dates, as well as between March 2024 and November 2024. Eighteen departures for 2024 still had availability, while a few others were sold out.

At press time, “ Essence of Japan ” tour pricing began at $11,990 per person, double occupancy. Prices are subject to change, though, so contact a professional travel advisor for more information and booking.

Travel Advisor Pick: “Portugal, Spain and the Douro River Valley”

Chavez, who loves river cruising, also picked Uniworld Boutique River Cruises’ 11-day “Portugal, Spain & The Douro River Valley ” itinerary as a top choice for personal travel that she’d love to take. Designed for culturally curious travelers and wine aficionados, this river cruise begins in Porto, Portugal ( see photo below ) and concludes in Lisbon, Portugal .

Porto's lovely Capela das Almas sports an exterior of blue tiles. Photo by Porto Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Sailing along the Douro River through Portugal and traveling into Spain , cruisers will gaze at steeply terraced hillsides, quaint villages and cascading vineyards. Highlights will include:

  • Dining on traditional Portuguese cuisine in Coimbra , the birthplace of six Portuguese kings;
  • Enjoying private tastings of port wine;
  • Exploring Porto’s historic Ribeira district , home to cutting-edge cuisine, a thriving art scene and rabelo boats (a traditional Portuguese wooden cargo boat).

As Uniworld’s S .S. Sao Gabriel  winds its way through the UNESCO-designated Douro Valley, guests will head ashore to visit charming “quintas”(wine growing estates) and meet the winemakers who operate them.

Guests will also explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site  of Salamanca, Spain , and see the city’s famous university. After returning to Portugal, they’ll visit the fortified village of Castelo Rodrigo and historic Guimarães.

Resources for This River Cruise

Here’s the link to the Uniworld page about this enticing “Portugal, Spain & The Douro River Valley” journey.  The Meandering Traveler agrees with Chavez that Porto is an incredible place to explore. We sailed the Douro on a mid-2021 voyage on Scenic Azure. Here’s a look at a previous blog that reveals Porto’s “must see, must do” experiences.

Numerous departures of the Uniworld itinerary operate between April and November 2023 and 2024. Fares for 2023 start at $4,999 per person, double occupancy. Chat with a travel advisor about accommodations, pre- and post-cruise options, contract air tickets and more.

Travel Advisor Pick: “ Australia and New Zealand: The Lands Down Under”

And for her third “love to take” personal vacation, Chavez picks Abercrombie & Kent’ s 17-day “ Australia and New Zealand: The Lands Down Under ” in 2023. Traveling from Melbourne, Australia to Auckland, New Zealand, guests on the small group journey will travel through diverse, gorgeous natural settings. Those include Australia’s Outback and Great Barrier Reef and New Zealand’s Milford Sound.

Special experiences for guests on this tour, as outlined by Chavez and A&K?

  • Travelers will relax during a luxurious stay at Longitude 131° , a five-star tented eco-camp with spectacular views of Uluru (formerly called Ayers Rock);
  • They’ll swim and snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef ;
  • They’ll gaze at the sights of Sydney Harbor on a private cruise, before privately exploring the iconic Sydney Opera House,  celebrating its 50th birthday this year.
  • At the Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas , tour goers will interact “up close” with Australian koalas.
  • And in Queensland , they’ll visit a working cattle station and authentic family homestead, an A&K-exclusive experience.

More Details for A&K’s “Down Under” Tour

Here’s a look at this full A&K “Down Under” escorted tour. While this itinerary is offered on many dates in 2023, it’s so popular that it’s wait listed on many dates. However, at press time, there was still availability for February 6,  September 25, October 16, October 30 and December 11.  More limited availability is cited by A&K for October 9, and November 6.

At press time, prices started at $17,595 per person, double occupancy; prices are subject to change. In addition, guests can even extend the vacation further by adding on A&K’s four-day, pre-tour “Tasmania” extension; that’s priced from $3,295 per person, double occupancy. Again, contact a professional travel advisor to talk about all the itinerary options.

Travel Advisor’s Bucket List Adventures

Certainly, in 2023, travelers are making travel a priority. They’re hoping to check off many bucket-list adventures. Passionate about helping her customers achieve the vacation of their dreams, Chavez has a few unforgettable experiences of her own. Among them, she’s riden the luxurious Hiram Bingham Train on an A&K trip to Peru’s ancient, mountaintop Machu Picchu .

She’s also enjoyed two unforgettable experiences from Tauck. One was an after-hours private visit to the Vatican. Another was going river rafting on four-hour-old glacial water in the Canadian Rockies . So, what does the travel planner hope for her next bucket-list experience?

Well, we’d have to agree she’s picked a good one, as it’s one we hope to have it one day too. She’d love to travel in business or first class on Emirates Airlines . We’ve traveled in coach on Emirates and it was superb; higher cabin classes are often rated as fabulous.

What’s are your bucket-list experiences that you’d love to do? How do you stop putting them off? How do you “just make it happen”?

Check out a recent blog we published a few days ago: “ Tips for Tackling Your Personal “Travel Bucket List” — How to Make it Happen!”

More Tidbits about Travel Advisor Chavez

Pam Chavez, a Pavlus Travel vacation travel planner, enjoys travel to Italy; she's shown here in Venice. Photo by Pam Chavez.

“During Chavez’s free time, she enjoys exercising and cooking. She’s also very family-focused. She and her siblings are taking care of their 91-year-old mother.

And when it comes to taking good care of customers – helping them plan perfect vacations – she most likes the personal interaction. That means “getting to know people that you only deal with on the phone and then becoming great friends with them,” Chavez emphasizes. It’s akin to family approach in that regard, she emphasizes.

As loyal Pavlus Travel customers and new-to-the-agency clients work with her to plan their cherished vacations, she has one top travel tip. Don’t get caught up in not having the authority to take a foreign trip as the trip is about to begin, according to Chavez.

Did you know that some foreign governments have a certain time span for which passports must be valid beyond the actual dates of travel ? It’s not simply the day after the trip ends. “My top travel tip is make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after you complete your travel,” she emphasizes.

'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' just introduced a new superhero. Here's what you should know about America Chavez.

  • Warning: There are major spoilers ahead for "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness."
  • The latest Marvel movie introduces the comic-book character America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez.
  • America has the ability to jump through the multiverse via star-shaped portals that she creates.

Insider Today

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is expanding with the introduction of a new character, America Chavez, in " Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," in theaters on Thursday.

Actress Xochitl Gomez, 16, makes her debut as a teenage multiversal traveler and the first LGBTQ Latina superhero in the MCU.

Because of her ability to jump between universes, America plays a key role in the film. Here's what you need to know about the character.

America is a 14-year-old superhero who hasn't quite mastered her abilities yet

Xochitl gomez as america chavez in "doctor strange in the multiverse of madness." marvel studios.

She's from an alternate reality and arrives in the main MCU universe as she tries to escape a one-eyed monster named Gargantos .

America can physically move from one universe to another via star-shaped portals that she can't control because they're triggered by moments of fear.

The first time she opened a portal, America was a child and got scared by a bee that landed on a flower in her hand. After unintentionally opening a portal, America's two moms got lost in the multiverse and she hasn't seen them since.

As she explains to Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Stephen Strange, dreams offer people windows into their multiversal selves. According to America, who has traveled through 73 timelines, no other universe has a variant of her. She knows this because she never dreams.

Wanda wants to steal America's power so she can reunite with her sons, Billy and Tommy

In "Multiverse of Madness," Wanda targets America because of the teen's ability to travel through the multiverse.

"Multiverse of Madness" is centered on Wanda's rapid change from an Avenger to a full-fledged villain as she gets corrupted by the Darkhold, a book containing dark-magic spells.

Wanda is determined to steal America's power (which in turn would kill the teen) because she desperately wants to be reunited with versions of her sons, Billy and Tommy, that exist in another universe. The boys were first introduced in the 2021 Disney+ series "WandaVision," but don't actually exist in the main timeline.

America ultimately uses her power to help Wanda come to her senses and see the error of her ways. She does this by putting Wanda in an alternate reality, where she horrifies that universe's versions of herself, Billy, and Tommy.

Toward the end of the film, America is seen training with the sorcerers as Kamar-Taj is being rebuilt. Before Strange and America part ways, she tells him she's glad she fell into his universe and he says: "So am I, kid. So am I."

America is a relatively new character in the Marvel comics

Xochitl gomez as america chavez in "doctor strange in the multiverse of madness." marvel studios 2022.

The Latina superhero was first introduced by writer Joe Casey and artist Nick Dragotta in 2011.

In the comics, she sometimes goes by the alias Miss America and has been part of groups like Teen Brigade, Young Avengers, and Ultimates. America's powers, aside from interdimensional travel, include speed and the ability to fly.

Similar to her live-action counterpart, she has two moms in the comics. In the source material, America is a lesbian who was romantically linked to characters like a superhero named Alloy/Ramone Watts and a paramedic named Lisa Halloran.

In "Multiverse of Madness," America is also a member of the LGBTQ community. She wears a rainbow flag pin on her denim jacket, but her queerness isn't explicitly stated.

"It's important, as we always say, that these films represent the world as it is and the world outside your window," Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said of accurately depicting Chaves on-screen during the movie's press conference, which Insider attended.

"That aspect of America's character is from the comics," he said of Chavez's sexuality. "So we always wanna adapt them as well and as truthfully as we can. I think when people see the movie, much like in life, it is not any one thing that defines any one character."

"It's just great that other people feel represented with her being on screen and I think it's a really big deal," Gomez told The Hollywood Reporter at the LA premiere. "She's representing the LGBTQ [community], Latinas, teens and girls."

America Chavez's Powers In Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Explained

Xochitl Gomez posing for a photo at the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premiere

Contains spoilers for "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness"

"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" does not waste any time introducing audiences to America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) . The film opens on the teenager and a version of Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) attempting to reach the Book of Vishanti before a demon stops them and catches America. The character is brand new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and represents the youthful energy Marvel Studios seeks to develop in new heroes now that the MCU is without major lead characters in Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), and Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson).

America, first introduced in Marvel comics in 2011 and given her own starring run in 2017, stands as Marvel Studios' first Latina LGBTQ+ character. Per Marvel , this teenaged version of the character is younger than America has ever appeared in a comic run, paving the way for America to star in the MCU potentially for years to come.

"It was a fun challenge exploring what a younger and less experienced America might be," Gomez told Marvel.com about the new movie. "I wanted to keep that kid energy and a little bit of that fake-it-till-you-make-it confidence."

Much has been made of America's introduction in the "Doctor Strange" sequel alongside MCU veterans Stephen Strange, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), and Wong (Benedict Wong). Marvel Studios kept a tight lid on information concerning America's specific powers, though — and the movie reveals that they are truly out of this world.

America Chavez can travel through the multiverse, but she doesn't know how it works

In the "Doctor Strange" sequel, America Chavez primarily shows off the unique ability to create a star-shaped portal to other universes within the MCU's multiverse — a power that Stephen Strange and Wong have never encountered before. America also displays the potential to have a form of super strength late in the movie.

Shortly after America meets the sorcerers, she explains that she has the ability to travel across the multiverse. At the start of the movie, though, America doesn't know how to make it happen intentionally. She only knows that she accidentally opens portals to new universes when she feels scared; audiences first see this when a monster kills an alternate version of Strange and nearly captures her in the movie's opening minutes. It's not until the film's climax that America gains control over her multiverse-hopping abilities. When America does directly fight Wanda, she delivers a super-heavy punch, suggesting America has a surprising strength level in hand-to-hand combat, as well as her multiverse-hopping primary skill. America also intentionally sends Wanda to Earth-838, displaying an inordinate level of control over the power in not only time, but destination.

But wait — there's more. America's multiverse-traveling portal creation abilities and potential super strength are only the tip of the iceberg, if we're drawing any conclusions from her comics iteration. In the source material, she also displays the ability to fly and move at super-speed. She even demonstrates near-invulnerability. This makes her absurdly powerful. Fortunately for the stakes of this film, the MCU's America is not at that level yet.

This Sedona hike will challenge your route-finding skills

chavez travel

When confronted with a befuddling trail junction, many hikers opt to bypass the unknown and follow their researched route.

In most cases, that’s a smart move. Sticking to plans and designated trails reduces the risk of getting lost and injured. But while even long-established paths can be fraught with challenges, some forks in the road can be low risk diversions that are too sweet to ignore.

You’ll experience both elements on this two-part trek near Sedona.

The recently relocated and documented Chavez Road has a captivating history as a prehistoric trade route, mule and oxen trail and freight transit system for Verde Valley pioneers. The steep, rough-cut road was an important travel route until 20th century railroads and the General Crook Trail provided a safer, more efficient way to go.

By the 1920s, the abandoned route began to melt into oblivion, succumbing to neglect and encroaching vegetation. Recognizing an opportunity for “adaptive reuse,” the U.S. Forest Service took on the exhaustive process of surveying and preserving the historic road for recreational use.

The 9-mile section that runs between State Route 179 south of Sedona and the Stoneman Lake interchange off Interstate 17 has been identified, marked with cairns (stacked rocks) and opened to non-motorized travel.

The entire segment can be hiked via car shuttle or a grueling out-and-back hike, or it can be sampled as an exploratory day trek.

Although starting at the upper I-17 trailhead for a downhill hike sounds like a no-brainer, this choice trades avoidance of strenuous climbs for serious route-finding challenges. Hikers must have a keen sense of direction to leap-frog from cairn to cairn to stay on track.

For a less complicated outing, the lower trail offers a tougher climb but a better-defined route.

Beginning at the SR 179 trailhead, hike through the gate and follow the rocky road to the 0.1-mile point where the Chavez Trail veers right at the 9204T sign. The wide road to the left is an add-on surprise for the way back.

From the junction, the route ascends 1,000 feet in just under 2 miles among piñon-juniper woodlands on a ragged, edge-hugging road to the top of a mesa with spectacular red-rock country and Bradshaw Mountain views. This is an ideal turnaround point for a moderate day hike.

Unless you decide to take on the remaining 7 miles of head-scratching hiking, descend back to the 9204T junction and pick up the unsigned road heading north. This easy-to-follow, 0.8-mile diversion tacks on 400 feet of elevation gain as it winds its way to Beaverhead Tank.

Tucked into a breezy hollow, the secluded, weedy stock pond and defunct feeding trough at the end of a road less traveled sees few visitors other than roaming cattle and chirping parades of quail.

Chavez Trail and Beaverhead Tank

Lengths and elevations:

  • Chavez Trail to I-17: 9.1 miles one way, 3,720–5,320 feet.
  • Chavez Trail to the rim: 4 miles round trip, 3,720–4,400 feet.
  • Beaverhead Tank Road: 2 miles round trip, 3,720–4,120 feet.

Rating: Moderate to difficult.

Getting there:

  • Lower trailhead:  From Interstate 17 take Exit 298 for Sedona. Head 3.4 miles west on State Route 179 to just past mile marker 302. Turn right into an unsigned dirt parking circle. If you reach the Welcome to Red Rock Scenic Byway monument at Dry Beaver Creek, you’ve gone 0.2 mile too far.  The hike begins at the gate marked 9204S.
  • Upper trailhead:  From Interstate 17, take Exit 306 for Stoneman Lake and follow Stoneman Lake Road (Forest Road 213) to the trailhead on the left.

10 Superhero Movie Villains Hurt By Bad Casting Decisions

The mcu just cast its best kang replacement, chris hemsworth criticizes actors bashing marvel movies 2 weeks after criticizing his own thor performance.

The MCU has introduced several different ways to travel through the multiverse and its many dimensions. Throughout Phase 4, the scope of the MCU's multiverse has grown at an incredible rate, presenting various alternate realities filled with different versions of familiar faces and even brand-new characters that don't exist in the main MCU universe . But while the multiverse has taken a central spot in the franchise, there are still more questions than answers regarding its nature.

Like superpowers, deities, and sorcery, the multiverse can be approached through both scientific and magical means. Scientists like Hank Pym and magic users such as Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch have made important discoveries about the multiverse, but not even they have a strong grasp of its inner workings. It seems that the multiverse is quickly becoming a big threat, and every time a character begins to understand it, another multiversal event arrives to shake things up.

Related:  Marvel Cleverly Closed The Multiverse Loophole That Could Kill The MCU

The MCU has introduced universes like the Avengers' Earth-616, the Illuminati's Earth-838 , and the Raimi universe. It also has featured dimensions such as the Soul World, the Ancestral Plane, and Ta-Lo. While these dimensions aren't exactly parallel universes, they're still extraneous realities that can't be accessed through regular means of space travel. Concepts like incursions and variants are yet to be fully explained, but if there's something certain, it's that there's more than one way to travel to other planes of reality. These are the ones introduced in the MCU so far.

Time Travel and The Quantum Realm - Avengers: Endgame

A dimension in and of itself, the Quantum Realm is so small that it is nearly impossible to even detect. Avengers: Endgame revealed that the Quantum Realm also serves as the key to time travel, which not only allows the Avengers to retrieve weapons from the past but also makes it possible to branch out the MCU's timeline. Fortunately for the multiverse's stability, the Avengers avoided altering past events, and the TVA ensured that the new timelines couldn't evolve into unique universes. However, Loki's escape with the Tesseract proves how dangerous time travel could become. If a minimal change means an entirely different person can come into existence, then time travel could be the perfect tool to create infinite universes, if it falls into the wrong hands.

The TVA and The Citadel at the End of Time - Loki

The TVA managed to stop the Sacred Timeline from collapsing thanks to He Who Remains , who protected it — seemingly —out of sheer generosity. The organization could travel to any point in the timeline with the help of an arsenal of high-tech tools such as TempPads and Time Doors, which seem to merge time travel with teleportation and magic. Things may actually be more complicated than the TVA made them seem, however, as different variants were allowed to exist only until they made a certain decision. This means that other parallel universes have always existed and that the TVA allowed them to remain free as long as they didn't threaten their overall plans. Somewhere out there, the home universes of variants like Sylvie Laufeydottir,  variant Alligator Loki , and Throg could continue to exist as unique realities.

The TVA itself exists outside of space and time, which means that arriving at their headquarters counts as multiversal travel. But the TVA also has access to other planes of existence: the Void, where all pruned variants are sent to live forever, and the Citadel at the End of Time, where He Who Remains protected the Sacred Timeline for eons. Access to the TVA, the Void, and the Citadel at the End of Time is possible thanks to He Who Remains' 31st-century technology, which is advanced beyond comprehension. Only Kang the Conqueror's arrival could provide some insight into how He Who Remains really took control of the multiverse. Given his connection to Reed Richards and Doctor Doom in the comics, it's possible that it may have also had to do with a fusion of science and sorcery.

The Nexus of All Realities - What If...?

Uatu and the Watchers inhabit the Nexus of All Realities, a dimension outside of the MCU multiverse where the Watchers oversee every existing universe. This place is supposed to be unreachable, as it isn't a regular universe but an outer dimension that links all universes together. However, an Ultron variant that harnessed the power of the Infinity Stones managed to see through reality itself and interact with Uatu.

Only beings of supreme power can sense the Nexus of All Realities, let alone travel to it. The Watchers are able to travel freely between the Nexus and each universe, but given that they took an oath to never intervene, they rarely leave their home. While the Nexus of all Realities is the dimension that binds all universes together, it is not the only place outside of space and time. Other similar locations include He Who Remains' Citadel at the End of Time and the Gap Junction, the latter of which houses the Book of Vishanti and could be accessed by Defender Strange.

America Chavez's Powers - Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

The fastest way to travel the MCU multiverse is through America Chavez's innate portal-summoning abilities.  Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness establishes that America first manifested this power when she was a kid, and that it only came to her at times she was scared. It took  America Chavez time to harness her multiverse powers , but by the time she fought a one-on-one battle with Scarlet Witch, America was finally able to summon intra- and inter-dimensional portals.  Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness  also revealed that America Chavez's powers can be stolen, as the Darkhold allowed Scarlet Witch to peek into other realities and Dreamwalk with her variants' bodies, but she needed America's multiversal portals to actually travel to other realities.

Magic Spells - Doctor Strange and Spider-Man: No Way Home

Magic may be the most important part of multiversal travel. In 2016's  Doctor Strange , The Ancient One provided the first mention of the multiverse when she told Stephen Strange that his reality  "is one of many" and that sorcerers  "harness energy... drawn from other dimensions of the multiverse."  And in the same movie, Kaecilius was able to access  Dormammu's Dark Dimension through magic alone. The Ancient One and Doctor Strange mastered their ability to summon the Mirror Dimension, and in  Avengers: Infinity War , Doctor Strange saw 14,000,605 futures, each of which could have unfolded into unique universes.

Related:  Why Doctor Strange Still Remembers Spider-Man In Multiverse Of Madness

In  Spider-Man: No Way Home , Doctor Strange's memory-wiping spell caused multiversal invaders to land in the MCU's main universe, but he used other magical tools such as the Macchina di Kadavus to send the variants back to their home universes and close the multiversal rift. Soon after, Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch used the power of the Darkhold to possess the bodies of their multiversal variants, effectively sending their consciousness across the multiverse. This method has negative side effects, however, as Scarlet Witch grew increasingly irrational and Doctor Strange developed a third eye that may or may not turn him evil.

The Convergence - Thor: The Dark World

Every 5,000 years, the Nine Realms align in an event that affects the whole universe. Asgard, Jotunheim, and Nidavellir may not be universes like 616 and 838, but they do exist in their own realm and can be accessed through magic means like portals and the Bifrost. While the Convergence doesn't involve other the entire multiverse, it may hide some multiversal secrets. Dr. Erik Selvig's research apparently studied the Convergence, the Nexus of All Realities, the Multiverse, and even the mysterious reason why  the MCU's main universe is called Earth-616 . Whatever causes the Nine Realms to converge, it surely has something to do with multiversal travel.

The Heart-Shaped Herb - Black Panther

Like the Quantum Realm and the Mirror Dimension, the Ancestral Plane doesn't seem to be a regular universe. Instead, it is a place where the rules of time and space are inherently different. The Ancestral Plane is where the spirit of all Black Panthers goes to rest in peace, and it allows them to communicate with their successors. Wakanda forged a spiritual connection with this plane of existence through the Heart-Shaped Herb , which is part of the ritual to become the Black Panther. Although it's a part of Wakandan culture, the Ancestral Plane is also adjacent to the Astral Plane, which sorcerers like the Ancient One and Doctor Strange send their souls when they separate them from their bodies. In Avengers: Infinity War , Thanos knocked Doctor Strange out of his body using the Soul Stone and the Power Stone, which suggests that the Soul Stone granted him access to the Astral Plane without having to be adept in magic.

The Infinity Stones - Avengers: Infinity War

Using all the Infinity Stones simultaneously sends the user to the Soul World , another dimension that exists outside of reality. The Soul World is the dimension that looks the least like a regular universe. It is an infinitely empty space that only materializes people that are important to the visitor. The Soul World is shrouded in mystery, as it is intimately connected to the very soul of living beings. While it has been theorized that MCU characters go to the Soul World when they die, this is unlikely, considering that its infinite nothingness doesn't contain anything beyond what the Infinity Stones produce.

The Path to Ta-Lo - Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings

On the other side of the spectrum, the mythical land of Ta-Lo  is the dimension that looks the most like a regular universe. Ta-Lo doesn't exist anywhere on Earth. Instead, it's a pocket dimension of its own, which houses fantastical creatures like the Dijiand and powerful entities like the Great Protector. The only known way to reach Ta-Lo is through a hidden bamboo maze, and only at the start of the yearly Qingming Festival. Given that Ta-Lo looks like an Earthly town, it's unknown what would happen if somebody tried to fly to outer space there. If there's an entire universe outside of Ta-Lo, then it could be classified as its own reality within the MCU multiverse.

Death - Moon Knight

Not all dimensions can be accessed by moving through space. Some are reached by dying. When Marc Spector is shot and killed by Arthur Harrow, he arrives at  Moon Knight 's version of the afterlife , in the form of a psychiatric hospital. This is the Duat, the astral dimension of the Egyptian underworld. The goddess Taweret explains to Marc and Steven that the only way to escape the Duat is by weighing their heart against a feather. If the heart is heavier, the soul is frozen in the desert for eternity; if not, it goes to the paradisiac Aaru. In very special cases, Taweret  might  help the soul come back to life.

Kamala Khan's Bracelet - Ms. Marvel

Yet another dimension was unexpectedly introduced in  Ms. Marvel , where Kamala Khan's bracelet awakened her connection to the Clan Destines. These individuals, often confused with Djinn, were exiled from  the Noor Dimension in Ms. Marvel  — the place from where Kamala draws her power. The exact details of how to access it have not been fully explained, but if the ClanDestines actually hail from there, it's possible that Kamala will eventually be able to visit it. Like the Soul World or Ta-Lo, the Noor Dimension is one of the many places in the  MCU multiverse that can be reached with the right tools.
