Fishbone are an alternative rock band hailing from Los Angeles, California, USA. Forming in 1979, they are known as one of the most influential cult bands in American rock, earning a devoted following with their snappy mix of ska, rock, reggae and funk.
After 25 years of rocking most bands would be tired even if their history had been pretty smooth sailing. Not with Fishbone, they’re a band still as tirelessly inventive as they ever were, still proudly aware of the difference between being silly and being stupid, and in general an absolute gold standard of what rock and roll bands should aspire to be like.
Most of the founding members of the band met on the same school bus regime. Brothers Phillip and John Fisher (drums and bass respectively), Walter Kibby (trumpet), Kendall Jones (guitar) and Chris Dowd (keyboards) would all take the same bus into the San Fernando Valley area where they met Angelo Moore (vocals) who was born there.
Soon after they met they formed Fishbone, and were soon playing the same Los Angeles clubs as the likes of the newly formed Red Hot Chili Peppers were getting some serious buzz. They were signed to Columbia Records in 1983after producer David Kahne saw them play a club show and two years later their self-titled debut E.P came out, along with their debut single “Party at Ground Zero".
1987 saw the release of their first full length album “In Your Face”, and their first major international tour supporting The Beastie Boys, a perfect fit I’m sure you’ll agree. The late 80’s and early 90’s saw the band add hard rock and soul influences into their brand of funk inflected ska and saw their commercial and critical fortunes sky-rocket as a result.
These were first displayed on their second album “Truth and Soul”, which saw them gain an MTV hit with their cover of Curtis Mayfield’s “Freddie’s Dead”. They also toured with the Chili Peppers and collaborated with one of the original Rock and rollers, Little Richard. Since then they’ve become one of the unsung heroes of alternative music.
They might not have the sales or cultural impact of Nirvana or the Chili Peppers but they’re still just as if not more fascinating and talented as both of them. They’ve had a tricky time since then, with band members dropping out and dropping back in again but they’ve kept on keeping on ever since they formed. Many artists could and should learn from this band and many music fans would do very well to seek them out as soon as possible.
Live reviews
Unfortunately for us the location we went to, the Independent in S.F.,makes no effort to uphold the law allowing smoking of cigarettes and marijuana in their indoor venue. It's a small place and fills with smoke fast. Do not ever go there if you are asthmatic or have to take random drug tests. People smoke pot inches in front of you. When my husband went to complain to security and management about us being unable to enjoy the show due to our eyes and chests burning from thr smoke they not only said theres nothing they can do about it, they decided to whine to Fishbone about our concerns. So the lead singer prior to starting hisc2nd song chose to attempt to shame us in front of the audience for our concerns cussing us out. Makingvit clear that the only people the want at their concerts are the people drugging and smoking. No one should be there that only wanted to enjoy the music. We will never waste money on them again. Maybe they everyone stoned so they don't notice how out of tume they were.

Californian alt-rock outfit Fishbone are the definition of a cult phenomena as during their peak in the 90s, most college cars in the US were plastered in Fishbone logo stickers. Whenever they visited towns they promised a night of debauchery so the shows would be packed to the brim with revellers who shared this same mentality.
Years later and the band may have grown and matured yet the sense of anarchy still remains alive in the form of tracks including 'Everyday Sunshine' and 'Freddie's Dead'. The musicians onstage successfully merge the genres of ska, punk rock, funk, hard rock and soul on their records yet with such range of sounds you would think some of this multi-genre hopping would be pretty impossible onstage yet they successfully recreate it partly due to the large amount of guest musicians the band has drafted in. The whole audience jump and dance along throughout the show and there is one all round party for the finale of 'Sunless Saturday'.
Fishbone are a great band plain and simple. They were really when I was in High School, everyone in town had a fishbone sticker on their cars and everyone had fishbone T-shirts, we knew all their songs and all of the band members so we were all really pumped up to see them live.
The show itself was full of energy and just great. They did all of their classic songs including the ska song “Party at Ground Zero” and the hard rocking tune “Sunless Saturday” which really got the house going. At times it felt like it was 1993 all over again. At the end the did several encores and Angelo finished the set by jumping into the crowd. Really great show and really great band.
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!
This was a day time concert for kids. Frigging great idea. They started at 2pm for a 1 hour full band show. Playing the classic songs and 2 new ones. The kids were dancing and shouting to the songs. The fathers were up front skanking to the beat(I'm sure they were in pain the next day) and everyone had a good time. If your city gets one of these shows take the kids. It was my 7 year old nephew's first concert and I am so glad he got to experience a great and energetic band like Fishbone. Thank you. Later that nite there was an adult show which we caught as well. You cannot get enough Fishbone.
Awesome band to see live! Last time I saw them they pulled me up on stage to stage dive and I spent the almost whole time in the most pit. All the fans at the shows are nice and friendly people, I was receiving high fives from countless strangers. After a night of awesome music, and dancing Angelo Moore (the frontman) came out and started signing merchandise. If you are going to see a band live, go see fishbone.
Great show. Was awesome to see John, Chris and Fish again!!! Hoping they come back before the end of the year. The musicianship was tight as ever and hearing some songs from the original four albums that I had not heard in a while was killer. After seeing them for over 30 years they still create an energy that is second to none...Fishbone solider for life!
Short 5 song tease :(. I luv Fishbone and will take what I can get. This gig was 5 songs. Glad I made it in on time. Angelo is a big bunch of energy both with singing and playing sax. The rest of the band is in synch and has fun. I cant wait to see them again.

Fishbone Announces New Self-Titled EP & Shares New Single “Estranged Fruit” (Listen)
The band is on tour now - Shows Include Festivals + Support Dates With Les Claypool’s Flying Frog Brigade
Celebrating 40-years as a band – an anniversary that was put in pause due to the pandemic – Fishbone have announced the May 26 release of their new eponymous EP . Recorded and produced by NOFX ’s Fat Mike , Fishbone will be released via his new label Bottles To The Ground. After years of touring and rotating members, 2023 finds Fishbone back to their most solid line up which includes four of its six original members , including Chris Dowd who returns to the band for the first time since 1994. Today they share another taste of the EP by way of “ Estranged Fruit ,” a collaboration with NOFX .
Dowd says, “‘ Estranged Fruit’ is a timeless composition merging the past and present embodied by the irony of us repeating what should be in the rear view mirror of a so called evolved society that still has far to go .”
“ Fishbone is the one band I’ve always wanted to produce ever since NOFX toured with them in 1992 ,” shares Fat Mike . “ When I got the chance two years ago….. I fucking gave it everything I got! I fucking love this band so much as friends and musicians, but I may like this record even more! I thank all of them for the opportunity .”
Fishbone have also shared the EPs “ All We Have Is Now ” and The New York Times said “The ever-peppy ska-punk-funk-rock band Fishbone has persevered since 1979…‘All We Have Is Now’ is a philosophical pronouncement briskly delivered in ska form. One thing to enjoy in the moment is the way organ and horns each play just a few notes, placing them exactly where they’re needed.” Consequence called it “signature Fishbone with its joyous horns and funky rhythm.” Watch the video here:
Fishbone have just concluded a headline tour of North America where they played to sold-out rooms across the country including a stop at New York City’s Gramery Theater. Next week they head back out for a run of dates that includes the Punk Rock Music Festival in Las Vegas May 27 and 28 and shows supporting Les Claypool’s Flying Frog Brigade . Tickets are on sale now and all dates are listed below.
There once was a time when a new release by important musical artists served as a kind of State of the Union, an oratorio about what we were all going through. Not merely a political diatribe, but All! Of! It! and politics being part of that civic and social duty, not shying away from calling out names and policies and the wickedness that dwells in the hearts of men who influence history. It seemed like part of a world-conscious band’s duty – especially a punk band’s duty – was to speak their truth. And if there’s one thing you probably already know about Fishbone — even in the unlikely event that their new self-titled EP is the very first music you‘re hearing by a group that has been a cornerstone of Los Angeles’ punk, funk, ska, jazz and experimental sound since the early 1980s — it’s that their truth has always been foremost on their minds.
So it’s funny to hear Norwood Fisher, Fishbone’s bassist, co-founder/-leader, say that the state-of-the-world sense prevalent all over the band’s new five-song EP is down to its producer Fat Mike, aka Michael Burkett, singer/founder of NOFX, and the man behind Fat Wreck Chords, the label putting out Fishbone .
“I know he is conscious of the need for Fishbone to make those kinds of statements,” says Fisher of the EP’s themes, revealing that the band “handed over the song selection to Fat Mike. It was an experiment. We presented him with what we thought were our best songs, and he picked ’em all. We didn’t do a whole lot of discussing and just went with it.” Which speaks a ton of the relationship between producer and band, a friendship Fisher says stretches back to 1991, when Fishbone took NOFX on tour with them, and has been ongoing through all the ensuing West Coast punk histories, anniversaries, and community revivals.
Begun pre-pandemic, Fishbone is the first new recorded Fishbone music in six years. It was initiated a few years ago, but interrupted by the fact that for a short period of time in 2019, all of Fishbone’s original members — who with the exception of mainstays Fisher and vocalist/saxophonist/frontman Angelo Moore, have been coming and going for 30 years — were threatening to simultaneously return into the fold. What Fisher acknowledges with a knowing smile is “the difficulties of being in a whacked-out, everybody-is-somewhat-crazy band. The thing that creates the beauty can sometimes be the thing that creates the obstacles.” By the time they finished the EP in 2022, it was still the closest to an “original” Fishbone line-up its been in eons, with Angelo and Norwood rejoined by keyboardist/vocalist Chris Dowd (Keys/Vocals) and trumpeter/vocalist “Dirty Walt” Kibby, and rounded out with veteran ‘bone drummer John Steward, and guitarist Mark Phillips.
Though only five songs long, Fishbone vibrates with the candor about the state of the world. Both sides: some pulled from the headlines, and some from diaries. Take bassist Norwood Fisher’s crisp soulful skank “All We Have Is Now,” a wonderful addition to the long list of Fishbone classics, part biography and part call-to-Zen, all punky funky presence, with Dowd’s rolling organ a revelation. On the flipside of the anger scale lies “Estranged Fruit,” Fat Mike’s update on one of the greatest compositions in this country’s songbook, Abel Meeropol and Billie Holiday’s 1939 “Strange Fruit.” Where the original metaphorically addressed Jim Crow lynchings, the new version describes a United States where the “poplar trees are now populist, and not just in the South” and “cops can just lynch you,” all of it delivered in imitable Angelo Moore style, with grinning cakewalk rage, and backed by a Dirty Walt’s wailing blue trumpet. Another new Fishbone classic, and as a good tune about Tr*mp’s Amerikkka, as has been recorded the past few years. And if Dowd’s reaffirmation of youthful punk values “I Don’t Care,” or Phillps’ Zoot-Suit-attired historic Black Los Angeles chronicle “Wake Up My Child” scale down the gravitas, they too are the perfect Fishbone tunes, vignettes of a band whose legacy in American cultural psyche is assured. (And if you think that’s hyperbole, I urge you to look up Kevin Young’s great biographical poems inspired by the band.)
Important musical artists don’t just deliver states of the union, they’ve got perfect timing. So too Fishbone, which, if all goes well, will use the release of Fishbone to mark the 40th anniversary of their very first paid gig. “May 21st, 1983 at Madame Wong’s Chinatown,” says Fisher gleefully. “It was the night of Angelo’s prom and we got paid $25. So, yeah man we are celebrating.” They’ve earned the right, having brought joy and knowledge and a unique sound everywhere they go. And in Fisher’s mind, they’re nowhere near done. “I appreciate the privilege to be doing this at this point. And as long as the band continues to have fun and we all feel like we’re all creating great art, to possibly do it for another 20-30 years.”
Fishbone is: Angelo Moore (vocals/Saxophone), Chris Dowd (Keys/Vocals), Dirty Walt (Trumpet/Vocals), Norwood Fisher (Bass), rounding it out with veteran Fishbone drummer, John Steward , and Mark Phillips .

George Clinton & P-Funk Plot (Another) ‘Final Tour’ Ft. Fishbone, Dumpstaphunk, More
George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic have announced a 21-date 2023 tour featuring support from a number of their funkiest colleagues, Fishbone , Dumpstaphunk , and George Porter Jr. of The Meters fame.
Clinton and his ever-evolving P-Funk circus have been saying “farewell” for years. When the aging bandleader first detailed his multi-band One Nation Under A Groove tour in 2019, he billed the nationwide run as his “final” outing. Four years later, he’s still at it—and yes, he’s aware of that loose interpretation of finality: This year, the summer trek is being billed with a self-aware lack of certainty as Just For The Funk of It! Final Tour?!?

Every turtle that is brought on board during an Adventure Tour is now a part of research. We have partnered up with
Cape Eleuthera Institute to provide data for their turtle research program. Each turtle is measured, photographed and tagged, we record the data to share important research information, helping them with their conservation efforts.

Frequently asked questions.
Bring anything that would make you comfortable in the sun all day. For Adventure or Snorkelling Tours bring sunblock, towels and personal snacks for many hours on the beautiful Eleuthera waters. If you have your own snorkelling gear bring it because the oneʼs we provide may need adjusting.
We provide fishing and snorkelling equipment but please bring your own if you have it. We also provide water, sodas and beer for each one of our Tours. Food is not included but feel free to reserve a table at our Fishboneʼs Beach Bar & Grill after your Tour.
No, you can pay the deposit by card and then pay in cash the day of
your Tour to avoid transaction and booking fees.

For all of our boats have a Bimini Top to provide share for passengers. All our boats are 23ft or larger and can sit around 8 adults without a problem. We use a smaller boat for bone fishing since the captain has to navigate through shallow waters.
The max number of personas for a bone fishing tour is 2. These is because the captain has to poll the boat through shallow waters. If you want to take more people then you can book a second boat.
If we can not reschedule your tour we will give you a full refund minus
transaction fees.
We have taken out pregnant women (Not recommended), from a few month old babies to 90 in age. We try our best to accommodate the needs of our guest.
Sure you can! Just contact us for more details.
All kinds of fish but it all depends on the kind of Tour, weather, season and of course luck. Check on this website for a more details list of fish you can catch.
