Embarking on the Assam wildlife tour is a magnificent opportunity for you to see the animals that inhabit the Brahmaputra plains and the Eastern Himalayan foothills. Jeep safaris in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, and Manas and Kaziranga national parks will let you observe the regional flora and fauna from a convenient vantage point. While on such trips, drive on lush grasslands and through thick deciduous and semi-evergreen jungles, with loads of streams and small ponds dotting them.

This wildlife tour in Assam will give you an altogether different experience while you are in Nameri National Park. You will navigate the protected site on foot and enjoy white water rafting on the Kameng River. But, before all this, you will visit Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati to learn something about the local religious beliefs.

Day 01: Arrival in Guwahati | Visit to Kamakhya Temple | Guwahati to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary (approx. 58 km | 1.5 hours)

Upon arriving at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, meet our tour representative and head to the revered Kamakhya Temple. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, spots where the remains of the body of Goddess Sati fell. This elongated shrine has one pyramidal tower and five domes above its sanctum. Sculptures of Lord Ganesha and other Hindu deities can be seen on its walls.

Post exploring this religious site, travel to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary and on reaching here, transfer to the resort for an overnight stay.

Day 02: Jeep Safari | Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary to Manas National Park (approx. 200 km | 4-4.5 hours)

In the morning, begin your Assam wildlife tour by embarking on a Jeep safari in the sanctuary. Enjoy driving on the lush grasslands and dense jungles of the protected territory that harbour animals like rhinos, boars, buffaloes and deer. Following this nature trip, travel by road to Manas National Park. On reaching here, check-in at the resort to rest at night.

Day 03: Jeep Safari

Post a delicious breakfast, head to Mathanguri for a Jeep ride in the protected territory, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As it is located in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, its terrain is somewhat hilly. It too has both grasslands and forests that are home to the rare golden langur. Apart from these, try spotting elephants, clouded leopards, civets, jungle cats and black bears. After this exciting excursion, return to the resort for an overnight stay.

Day 04: Manas National Park to Nameri National Park (approx. 285 km | 6 hours)

After relishing a tasty breakfast, check-out and travel to Nameri National Park, located in the Eastern Himalayan Terai belt. Upon reaching the site, transfer to the campsite to get some sleep.

Day 05: Trekking and River Rafting

This phase of your wildlife tour in Assam will promise to be highly adventurous and fun. Early in the morning, commence an approximately 3.2km hike in the jungle. Meandering through thick semi-evergreen and deciduous forests, look out for the colourful species of butterflies that inhabit the region.  

Following this nature walk, return to the campsite for a nourishing breakfast. After the meals, head to the banks of the Kameng River to engage in white water rafting. The river consists of mild rapids that will do just enough to give you adrenaline rush and make your trip worthwhile. Post this fun-filled day, return to the campsite for an overnight stay.

Day 06: Nameri National Park to Kaziranga National Park (approx. 90 km | 2 hours)

Following breakfast at the campsite, travel by road to Kaziranga National Park. Once here, transfer to the resort for a comfortable night stay.

Day 07: Jeep Safari | Local Sightseeing

Relish breakfast and then head out on yet another nature spotting phase of this Assam wildlife tour. Kaziranga National Park is among the most famous protected territories in the country. Located along the banks of the Brahmaputra River, it is well known for the conservation of the endangered one-horned rhinos.

Take a Jeep safari through the local jungles and grasslands, and try spotting these animals along with others like gaurs, gibbons, pelicans, parrots, leopards, monkeys and dolphins. In the evening, explore a nearby tea garden and then some local villages to interact with the inhabitants. Following the excursion, return to the resort for an overnight stay.

Day 08: Kaziranga National Park to Guwahati (approx. 193 km | 3.5 hours) | Departure from Guwahati

After breakfast, end this amazing wildlife tour in Assam by transferring to Guwahati. On reaching the city, move to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to board the flight for your onward journey.

• En route, the gorgeous lake of Umiam, also known as Barapani. Barapani is the largest artificial lake in Meghalaya. Whereas, Umiam is known for its picturesque surrounding which includes Sylvan Hills.
• Upon arrival in Shillong, you will be accommodated in a pre-booked hotel in Shillong.
• For the rest of the day, you will be free for your leisure activity. You can either choose to explore the nearby region on your own or you can just opt to stay inside your hotel room to relax and unwind.
• Dinner and overnight stay will be provided at the hotel.

Shillong to Cherrapunji

• In the morning, you will be served with a delectable breakfast.
• After having breakfast, be ready to commence an excursion to the second wettest place on earth - Cherrapunji. The drive from Shillong to Cherrapunji takes around 2-3 hours to complete.
• En route, visit the gorgeous Seven Sister Falls, Mawsmai Cave and Thangkharang Park.
• After done sightseeing tour of Cherrapunji, head back to Shillong.
• On the way to Shillong, visit the spectacular Elephant Falls and the much-famous Shillong Peak. From the peak, you can capture the surreal views of the surrounding.
• Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Shillong to Mawlynnong to Dawki to Shillong

• Day 4 of this entire expedition will be a bit busy and productive. The day will start with a nutritious morning meal.
• Followed by this, you will be taken to the cleanest village in Asia - Mawlynnong through a 78 km road drive. In the East Khasi Hills, Mawlynnong is one of the most beautiful places to visit in the region and is a popular ecotourism destination in Meghalaya.
• The next stopover of the day will be Dawki. In the West Jaintia Hills, Dawki is a hidden treasure of Meghalaya which is known for its sublime beauty; the clean and beautiful Umngot River being a significant part of it.
• Once done exploring the town of Dawki, you will be taken back to Shillong.
• On the way, you will have the chance to visit the spectacular Root Bridge.
• Upon arrival in Shillong, you will be accommodated back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

• Post breakfast, be ready with your backpack to be driven back to your onward destination.

Tenga Valley – Tenga Valley is a haven for birdwatching enthusiasts. With its diverse habitats ranging from dense forests to riverbanks, the valley attracts a wide variety of avian species. Birdwatchers can spot a range of colourful and rare birds, including the beautiful Rufous-necked Hornbill, Long-tailed Broadbill, Ward’s Trogon, and the vibrant Scarlet Finch.  

Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary –  one of the world’s finest birding sites, Eaglenest is home to over 450 species of birds, including numerous rare and endemic species. Birding enthusiasts can spot unique birds like the Bugun Liocichla, Beautiful Nuthatch, and Ward’s Trogon

Dirang – with it’s natural beauty, with panoramic views of snow-capped mountains, lush valleys, and serene rivers, Dirang is a place to immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage on the Monpa tribe and deep Tibetan influences. Visit the UNESCO Dirang Dzong, a 9th century fortress.

Sela Pass – Sela Pass, situated at an altitude of 13,700 feet in Arunachal Pradesh, is not only known for its breathtaking beauty but also for its incredible birding opportunities. This high-altitude mountain pass offers a unique ecosystem, attracting a diverse range of avian species. Birdwatchers can spot several Himalayan and alpine species, including the Himalayan Monal, Blood Pheasant and Snow Pigeon.

This birding tour can be done any time between October to April. The best months for birding in Eaglenest is March and April, when the rhododendron trees are in bloom, but it is also the breeding season. Between November and February the temperatures can be very cold, and the high passes can be covered in snow and low cloud which can affect visibility on the Sela Pass and Mandala.   

The Northeast is home to an enviable number of avian species both migratory and permanent residents across its many national parks. This 8 night tour will visit birdwatchers’ paradise – Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary and Sela Pass in Arunachal Pradesh and Nameri National Park in Assam. Eaglenest hosts over 500 species of birds. Nameri National Park is home to over 350 species of birds. Of the seven national parks in Assam, Nameri is the only one that allows trekking into the forest making it ideal for bird-watching. Sela Pass, at 4170meters, offers breath-taking views place and is home to the rare Blood Pheasant.

Day 1 – Guwahati – Tezpur

Arrive at Guwahati airport, met by your driver Arrive into Guwahati and transfer to Tezpur. Your birding guide will meet you at the hotel in the evening and brief you on the itinerary and the region you will be travelling for the next few days.

Day 2 – Tezpur – Tenga Valley

Early check out by 5am and transfer to Nameri National Park. Jungle walk inside the forest. Spend about an hour or two bird watching inside the reserve forest. Continue to Tenga Valley in Arunachal Pradesh. Afternoon birdwatching

Day 3 – Tenga Valley 

Early departure with a packed breakfast and travel to Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary for early morning birdwatching. By 11:30am a short break and lunch in a local home. Afternoon birdwatching. Return to hotel by evening. 

Day 4 – Tenga Valley  

Early departure with a packed breakfast and travel to Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary. Today the route will be inside the sanctuary towards Eaglenest Pass and Sunder View. Morning birdwatching with a packed lunch. Back to the hotel late afternoon stopping for birding en route

Day 5 – Tenga Valley – Mandala 

After breakfast drive to Dirang stopping en route  to see the Dirang Dzong, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue to Mandala with some birding stops on the way.

Day 6 – Mandala – Dirang 

Early rise with a packed breakfast and full morning of birding in Mandala. Lunch and drive to Dirang where you will visit a Monpa village to gain insights into how the tribe lives. Take a  village walk and taste the millet beer and local snacks. Check in to your hotel in Dirang.

Day 7 – Dirang 

Early morning at 4 AM drive up to Sela Pass for a morning of birdwatching. This area is best known for sighting of blood pheasants. Return to Dirang for some leisure time and dinner and overnight at hotel. 

Day 8 – Dirang  – Sapoi

Check out after breakfast by 9am and drive down to Sapoi, on the way visiting Chilipam Monastery known for its Buddhist mural art. Lunch at a local farmhouse. At Sapoi check in to a family run farm homestay amid a tea garden.

Day 8 – Sapoi – Guwahati Airport 

Check out after a leisurely breakfast and drive to Guwahati airport for evening flight
