Snoop Dogg ‘I Wanna Thank Me’ Auckland 2023

today March 11, 2023 my_location The Trusts Arena

Background

Finally, the wait is over and Californian Hip Hop icon Snoop Dogg has officially announced brand new dates for his massive upcoming New Zealand tour with special guests still to be announced.

The tour kicks off at Christchurch’s Orangetheory Stadium on Friday 10 March 2023 and then heads to Auckland’s Trusts Outdoors on Saturday 11 March 2023.

Snoop Dogg, who hasn’t performed in New Zealand since 2014 when he headlined the Big Day Out, will return to New Zealand shores in 2023 for his ‘I WANNA THANK ME’ tour, which will see the West Coast rap legend celebrate the release of his 17th album ‘I Wanna Thank Me’, and documentary of the same name, released in 2019.

While the ‘I Wanna Thank Me’ documentary celebrates 25 years of Snoop Dogg – a career that has seen the Doggfather cement his undisputed influence on music with chart-topping, multi-platinum records, while also solidifying his importance as a cultural icon, actor and businessman – the upcoming New Zealand tour will be all about the music!

Hailed by Rolling Stone as ‘America’s Most Lovable Pimp; a hip-hop star that has survived gangsta rap, charmed Hollywood and won over soccer moms – a hip-hop family man who’s evolved from consummate thug to ultimate mack’, Snoop Dogg remains one of the most important figures in music, almost three decades into his career.

He’s roasted Donald Trump on national television, baked brownies with Martha Stewart, co-headlined the Superbowl Half Time Show and collaborated with a list of celebrities that includes 2Pac, Pharrell Williams, Dr Dre, Eminem, Warren G, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and many more.

Despite immediately turning heads with his appearance on Dr. Dre’s iconic album The Chronic in 1992, few could have predicted the meteoric rise of the California local; 17 studio albums, 17 Grammy nominations and tens of millions of record sales, plus appearances in acclaimed movies and TV shows and his own burgeoning cannabis business.

From playing piano at his local baptist church in Long Beach, to becoming one of the world’s most recognised, revered and respected artists….and he’s not even close to retiring. Get ready for Snoop Dogg New Zealand!

Tickets for Snoop Dogg’s new tour dates go on sale at

12PM TUESDAY 20TH DEC FROM TICKETEK

Previously purchased tickets will automatically be transferred to allow access to new tour dates.

Arts & entertainment, design & style, travel & leisure, search concrete playground, break out the gin and juice: snoop dogg is dropping his rescheduled arena tour into new zealand in 2023.

The hip hop icon will play stadium shows in both Auckland and Christchurch in 2023.

Break Out the Gin and Juice: Snoop Dogg Is Dropping His Rescheduled Arena Tour Into New Zealand in 2023

New Zealanders, it's finally time to drop it like it's hot again — because Snoop Dogg is coming back to our shores. For the first time since 2014 (when he headlined Auckland's Big Day Out), the rapper is hitting stages Down Under as part of this new 'I Wanna Thank Me' tour, which'll be playing arenas across Australia and Aotearoa in February and March 2023.

The tour was initially due to happen in 2022, only to be postponed. Now, Snoop Dogg has locked in the rescheduled dates, with giant outdoor shows confirmed for both Auckland and Christchurch.

snoop dogg new zealand tour

Clearly, fans of the musician/actor/ cook book author /wrestling MC/ wine brand owner will be breaking out the gin and juice as he raps his way through the country. The tour kicks off at Christchurch's Orangetheory Stadium on Friday, March 10, before heading north to Auckland's Trusts Outdoor Arena on Saturday, March 11 2023. Snoop will also be inspiring hip hop aficionados to be the life of the party and, if you can remember his time as Snoop Doggy Dog and Snoop Lion across his career, to ask about his name as well.

Yes, you can expect to hear singles such as 'What's My Name?', 'Gin and Juice', 'Drop It Like It's Hot' and 'Snoop's Upside Ya Head', as well as tracks from his last few albums — with his 17th record from 2019, I Wanna Thank Me , sharing its moniker with the tour. Since then, he's also dropped two more albums: From tha Streets 2 tha Suites in 2021 and BODR in 2022, with another, Missionary , also in the works.

Snoop Dogg on inspiring next generation after 'spiritual' NZ welcome

Snoop Dogg arrived in New Zealand last night ahead of two stadium concerts over the weekend. Fiona Connor met up with the hip hop icon at a special welcome at Auckland Airport.

He's one of the biggest rappers in the world with a career spanning more than three decades, but Snoop Dogg doesn't take for granted the power of inspiring the next generation.

The hip hop icon had just touched down in Auckland when he was welcomed with a moving pōwhiri before he met with local teenagers who presented him with artwork they'd created — just for their idol.

A series of heartwarming moments unfolded as each of the group explained the inspiration behind their pieces, with Snoop Dogg appearing genuinely grateful and touched by the gestures.

Speaking exclusively to 1News, he said: "I'm an artist, so as an artist you inspire artists and you're inspired by artists, that's what it's all about.

"When I was a young kid I was inspired by people and it drove me to where I am now, so I love the fact kids are inspired by me and they get a little bit of something from me, so I just try to make sure that I can give them something to grow on."

The teenagers were from the Kākano Youth Arts Collective — a not-for-profit arts collective out of Corban Estate Arts Centre, working with kids between the ages of 12 and 22 who are not in mainstream education.

Youth Support Coordinator Sarah Candler said the kids who use the space often come from vulnerable backgrounds but it's moments like this that have the power to help form a brighter future.

"For them being able to gift a piece of art, it's hard to describe in words how much it would mean to them. It means so much to our youth. It means a huge amount."

Snoop Dogg stood tall with an obvious presence of mind as he focused on taking in every moment from his welcome after landing on a private plane.

The star was seen taking off his glasses when he greeted the kapa haka rōpū with a traditional hongi.

Reporter Fiona Connor was at a special welcome and spoke to the man himself.

He then spent time taking pictures with the group, full of gratitude for anyone who shared just what the moment meant to them.

"It's the second time I've been to this place, they greet me with a spiritual ritual and you can feel it," he said.

"I'm so far in the journey of my life right now I need things like this to happen for me to reassure myself that I'm doing the right thing and I'm in the right environment.

"I really, really needed this. It's so appropriate for the spirit that they give me to continue this tour that I'm on so I appreciate that."

The 'doggfather of rap' is in the country for two shows. He'll play Christchurch's Orangetheory Stadium on Friday night before heading back to Auckland for a show at Trusts Outdoors on Saturday night.

Off the back of a run of performances in Australia, Snoop Dogg said he's ready to deliver.

Despite his legend status, the 'doggfather of rap' appeared genuinely humbled by the teenager's worl.

"I'm going to give them the show of their life. I'm going to give them the best show I ever gave them. I'm here, this is a long way from where I come from," he said.

"They have been listening to me for a long time so I like to satisfy and make sure the people get what they've been waiting for."

The show's promoter, Trademark Live director Toby Burrows, told 1News the show has been more than a decade in the making.

The hip hop star is playing two shows in Christchurch and Auckland.

"We're super stoked. To be able to bring someone like him, it's just awesome."

Burrows said it was even more amazing to have played a part in getting the kids to meet Snoop Dogg.

He's also worked to get 16 people from the collective to come along to Auckland's show on Saturday.

"It's super special," he said.

'When I was a young kid I was inspired by people and it drove me to where I am now, so I love the fact kids are inspired by me,' Snoop Dogg told 1News.

More than 30,000 Kiwis are set to catch a glimpse of the star's I Wanna Thank Me Tour.

The hip hop icon celebrates a career full of monumental successes with a steady stream of hits. He's behind 19 studio albums, 17 Grammy nominations and sold tens of millions of records.

Over the years, there's been chart-topping hits like his 1993 What's My Name, as well as collaborations with artists like Pharrell for Drop It Like It's Hot and Dr Dre for the immortal Still D.R.E.

His Super Bowl appearance last year went down as one of the best in the event's history.

Snoop Dogg Announces Massive “I Wanna Thank Me” Tour Of New Zealand In 2022!

Press Release – Little Empire NZ

snoop dogg new zealand tour

Entertainment Icon, Hip-Hop legend and one of the world’s most recognised artists Snoop Dogg has officially unveiled plans for two major, outdoor shows in Auckland and Christchurch in 2022 .

Snoop Dogg will be joined by fellow legendary American rappers Warren G, D12, Obie Trice and the fast rising Dublin rap duo Versatile.

Snoop Dogg , who hasn’t performed in New Zealand since 2008 (apart from headlining the Big Day Out as Snoop Lion in 2014), will return to New Zealand shores in November 2022 for his ‘ I WANNA THANK ME ’ tour, which will see the West Coast rap legend celebrate the release of his 17th album ‘I Wanna Thank Me’, and documentary of the same name, released in 2019.

The tour kicks off at Christchurch’s Orangetheory Stadium on Friday 4 November 2022 and then heads to Auckland’s Trusts Outdoors on Saturday 5 November 2022.

Spark presale tickets will be available via Ticketek from Tuesday 26 October 2021, 12pm (local time). General Public tickets go on sale from Wednesday 27 October, 12pm (local time) from Ticketek.

While the ‘ I Wanna Thank Me’ documentary celebrates 25 years of Snoop Dogg – a career that has seen the Doggfather cement his undisputed influence on music with chart-topping, multi-platinum records, while also solidifying his importance as a cultural icon, actor and businessman – the upcoming Australasian tour will be all about the music!

He’s roasted Donald Trump on national television, baked brownies with Martha Stewart and collaborated with a list of celebrities that includes (but isn’t limited to) 2Pac , Pharrell Williams , Dr Dre , Eminem , Warren G , Katy Perry , Miley Cyrus and more .

Get ready for Snoop Dogg Aotearoa!

Snoop Dogg Talks Olympics, ‘The Voice’ Coaching Roles: ‘I’m The People’s Champ’

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

The year of the Dogg is upon us.

Hip-hop veteran Snoop Dogg  has his hand in everything right now, from cocktails to cooking shows, an international tour, movie roles, coaching spots on NBC’s The Voice and a spot on the sidelines for the world’s greatest multi-sport event, the Olympic Games .

'The Voice': Final 9 Take It 'Home' For Semis

On Monday night (May 13), Snoop dropped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for a brisk walk through his busy schedule.

This Dogg is having his day, again and again.

Rocking a customized Olympics kit, Snoop talked of taking his talents to Paris this summer, where he joins the NBC team for nightly reports from the 2024 games. “I wanna do something special with you over there, I don’t know what it is,” he tells Fallon. “Something musical. Something comedic.”

That once-in-a-lifetime gig will slot into a stint as coach on NBC singing competition show, The Voice , alongside fellow newcomer, the Canadian crooner Michael Bublé.

Announced earlier this week, the 52-year-old joins a panel for this fall’s 26th season which is rounded out by returning coaches Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani, with the former notching her third consecutive season on the series and No Doubt singer and solo star Stefani adding yet another notch with her eighth go-round.

“If you know anything about me you know I love all forms of music,” he says of his pivot to the musical chairs of The Voice. “So this is a great opportunity for me to show that I really understand music. And be a real coach and really give direction to some of these artists that can be today’s next big thing.”

Snoop insists, “I’m not one-sided, I’m not just for you. I’m for everybody. I’m the people’s champ.”

Before the gun goes off in the French capital, Snoop will embark on a Canadia-exclusive trek this June with fellow G-Funk trailblazers Warren G and DJ Quik, for the Cali to Canada Tour . “We’ll be doing what we do,” he tells Fallon, “representing that west coast hip-hop and giving up a great show.”

Snoop Dogg seems to want the Lakers to sign Klay Thompson

The Los Angeles Lakers are seen as Hollywood’s team, and thus they have many fans among the rich and famous in the Southland.

One of them is Calvin Broadus Jr., known to the public as Snoop Dogg. He grew up watching the Showtime Lakers as a child and teenager in Long Beach, and he has been loyal to the Purple and Gold ever since.

Broadus told Stephen A. Smith during an appearance on the “Stephen A. Smith Show” that he’s hopeful the team will sign Klay Thompson , the five-time All-Star guard for the Golden State Warriors , this summer as a free agent (h/t Lakers Nation ).

“I’m hopeful that we can get us a Klay Thompson. His dad is Mychal [Thompson], he works for the Lakers, it’s an easy transit down the road.”

The younger Thompson has been a major lynchpin of Golden State’s dynasty over the last decade or so. However, he clearly isn’t the same player he used to be after tearing his ACL and Achilles a few years ago.

He shot 45.9% from the field and 41.9% from 3-point range in eight seasons prior to those injuries, but in the last three seasons, he’s been at just 43.3% and 39.7%, respectively. In addition, his defense, which used to be considered excellent, has greatly declined.

The younger Thompson, who is 34 years of age, made over $43 million this season from the Warriors, and he won’t be cheap this offseason, even though he’s a shadow of his former self. The Lakers are over the salary cap and have very little wiggle room under the new collective bargaining agreement, which has made the cap’s constraints even more suffocating.

The team does likely need a third star or star-adjacent player. However, the younger Thompson likely isn’t the right choice for it, no matter how much the famous rapper hopes for a father-and-son reunion in Los Angeles .
