Stoke travel is doing it right

Stoke travel is doing it right - fun, silly nights that felt off the handle with people that I felt super safe and cosy with. As a solo female traveller, sometimes it's tricky finding spaces that I feel I can truly let loose in. I loved my time with Stoke and I'll definitely be back for more.

Live a little and go to San Fermin with Stoke!

Honestly my time with Stoke Travel made my ENTIRE euro trip last summer... San Fermin is hands down one of the best (and wildest) things I've ever done in my life... and whatever you do, DON'T MISS OPENING CEREMONY DAY!

Stoke campsite actually SLAPS

Stoke actually SLAPS, if you are going to Oktoberfest, looking to party and not trying to spend 9000 euros then check out their campsite in Munich - tents are tents, let's not forget why we are here - it's the most fun you'll have !!

Literally one of the funnest experiences that I’ve had in my entire life. Family environment. The staff makes you feel like one of your own as soon as you arrive. Good quality tents. Would recommend to anyone and definitely coming back for Oktoberfest.

San Sebastián surf camp is sick!

San Sebastián surf camp is f’’””” awesome! I loved the place so much and even booked another week! Great vibe 24/7 and made you not want to miss out on anything! Surfing was gnarly and even if the waves are flat they organise day activities instead, horse riding, hikes, shopping ect which is a sick bonus! Staff make you feel so involved and welcoming. Felt like home. 🏄🏼‍♂️

Date of experience : 17 April 2024

Best experience ever

All the volunteers and staff are amazing! They make the entire experience unreal!! Everyone is there to make sure the party and vibes are 10/10!!! If you haven’t already done a stoke trip do it asap!!!

Sail Croatia & Octoberfest + more to come

I found Stoke travel while looking for a sail Croatia trip then worked out that I could join them for Octoberfest and they definitely did not disappoint! Staff energy and party vibes were as promised and I thought both packages were spot on with value for money. Planning on doing san vino and Sam Fermin’ aka running of the bulls ‘ next year with them. “ if you can’t find the party be the party!”

Date of experience : 28 September 2023

Had the most incredible time at San Vino! Such an insane party hosted by stoke travel on site and the actual wine fight was nuts The staff were so friendly and helpful and the accommodation and location was sick. Couldn’t recommend enough!

Camping with stoke this weekend! I feel like I’m at summer camp. I love it! The workers are awesome, hot, energetic, kind, beerbong, fun, and electric. I love Stoke travels.

Wow what a party

Wow what a party! The accommodation was basic but enough and what we paid for, but the staff the inclusions and the party was unexpected and went above and beyond the trip that we paid for. Fantastic! Never had so much fun. Oh, we went to Oktoberfest in Munich.

ABSOLUTE BEST STAFF

the absolute best staff that created the most spectacular vibe for everyone and made it such a fun experience

I came for San Fermin last year

I came for San Fermin last year, no clue what I was expecting but for sure it was a sick time! Only things to nitpick was the tents weren't luxurious and a bit grim, and the campsite was a little far out of the city. BUT for what I paid, can't complain! There were still busses, and I was passed out before I had time to think about the state of the tent. I'll be back for sure, Oktoberfest 2024 heh

Great campsite

Great campsite. The staff was amazing!! 10 stars, highly recommended 👌

Date of experience : 27 April 2024

Perfect for solo travellers

I don’t normally take the time to leave reviews for places but I need to for Stoke Travel and their Oktoberfest site! I’d read some bad reviews and was apprehensive but the free beer is great, the atmosphere is exactly how I was hoping and every day I met some new friends to go to the festival with. I’ll 100% look at other festivals with Stoke, if you know you’re camping, bring some warm clothes and don’t expect the facilities to be the same as a hotel, then you’ll have the best time like I just have!

Date of experience : 01 October 2022

Our very large group checked into a hotel after one night and I recommend you do the same especially as Munich is freezing in September. The staff are mostly rude and unhelpful and the facilities massively oversold - the teepees aren’t waterproof, 1cm roll matts, stained and musty sleeping bags and tents. plus 💩 smeared over the walls of the men’s bathroom, in the women’s shower and in sleeping bags thrown outside between tents. the only thing that’s decent is the drinks …. Which you pre-pay for lol. Definitely not for the faint hearted.

When to stoke travel springfest as part…

went to stoke travel springfest as part of a stag do... Just wasn't what was presented on the website. bed is really a mat. tents are awful. bathroom facillities lacking for the number of people. showers awful. breakfast is pointless and small... you could see they were trying to give you the least they possibly could. Its so far away from the beer gardens and the spring fest site... you have to take a bus and a train to get there... and there are so many nicer places in the city centre and are honestly farrrrr cheaper and nicer. Everyone so drunk that they were not compus mentus. Would not feel safe here if I were a girl to be honest... its really obvious that people are getting peer pressured into drinking despite how the company presents itself... This was like being in a refugee camp but with beer. Great if you are 18 and can sleep on the floor... beer was okay but really everything else was faff. Only 18-22 year olds would tolerate this... and only the ones drunk out of their minds at that. If thats what you want as an american or australian kid then... have at it... but if not then be aware that you are paying alot for not very much. Ended up booking a hotel after one day... cost less per day and got considerably more. I would hard pass if i were you... there are much better, cheaper and easier ways of enjoying spring fest (and i suspect october fest as well). Like... considerably cheaper and better else where. Even when you consider the all you can drink beer... you will honestly pay less and get more else where... like significantly more... its really a waste of money. I get it though... if you are 18 (and male) and want to get so drunk you won't remember anything... go for it... if you are anyone else... avoid. Munich is so much more than this... real shame...

Fantastic leaders

Good experience, great experience, warning – avoid this untrustworthy and unprofessional travel company who when pushed with adversity, act unprofessionally, do not care about their customers’ and never take accountability..

I risk not receiving any sort of refund by writing this review however I feel that other would be travelers who want a pain free experience should know of my journey with Stoke travel before booking so they don’t go through the same pain my fiance and I went through. As a vivid traveler myself living and as an expat working in professional services in Europe for the last 4 years, I have to traveled to over 70 cities and also traveled with many ‘travel package’ companies including Busabout, Contiki, Topdeck, Sail Croatia and Turkey and have never had a negative review. My experience with Stoke Travel has been anything but positive. There are many facets to this review so I will try and summaries as best as possible however as it is having been quite a long journey it might quite lengthy (sorry in advance). The 4 month journey – My fiance and I booked a travel package with Stoke Travel to go to Andorra in March, 2020 albeit this was around the time where the pandemic was known however no countries made any sort of decisions to close borders and the seriousness of it wasn’t fully aware, in saying that concerns were raised to Stoke travel whether the tour was moving forward and they had confirmed it was. After travelling to Spain the night before, the morning of the tour came and everything seemed quite normal, similar to other tours I have been on however half way up to the Andorra mountain the tour was cancelled as Stoke personnel informed us this was due to the closure of Andorra borders, we were forced to turn around back to Barcelona however we were reassured that Stoke will do everything they can to take care of a refund and inform us of what the next steps would be. We were understanding to the unfortunate situation, trusted the word of Stoke and were happy to wait until the details on the refund were released. This is where the pain, stress, and unprofessional customer service of Stoke travel really begins. Weeks went on and I had personal issues of losing my job due to the pandemic and as an expat this means I also have to leave the country hence no sort of voucher is of any benefit to me so the request for a refund was vital however after weeks went on I had continued to actively follow up for a refund of our money due to the cancellation. When I first tried to tell them of my situation I was constantly informed of their Force Majure clause located in their T&Cs and this was constantly put in my face and only until I sought legal advice is when the CEO and co-founder of Stoke travel, Toby Paramor got in touch with me. When this happened I thought this was an admirable thing for Stoke travel to do so we engaged in a phone conversation where we mutually reinstated and agreed with what I was saying in terms of my situation, Stokes situation, redundancy, needing to leave the continent and how a voucher does not hold any weight for us and again Toby the co-founder agreed that a voucher makes no sense however due to the Covid-19 pandemic they needed some time to see if they would still be operational which I was totally reasonable and understanding towards and gave the benefit of the doubt as companies were feeling a deep burden hence I agreed to what he suggested in which to wait for his update which he promised to personally provide me with in a 3 week call that he would give me. 3 weeks went by and I had seen Stoke travel were still operational which I was happy for however I did not receive any call, message or email so I gave it a few more days then I had to contact Toby directly to which the blame game begun. Although our purchase was with Stoke travel who are a packaged travel company that make money in delivering bundled packages, the blame game of waiting for Andorra mountain to open up so they can return and process refunds begun. This was then the continuous response I got each time I had to actively follow up for an update. About a month went on and I still received the same update from the CEO, I went on to do my own research within the hotel site of Andorra which we were going to stay at, the site displayed they were working from home and were processing refunds and cancellations and I had sent screenshots to Toby to which he replied “If I would like to take over negotiations in trying to secure refunds back on behalf of the group you are more than welcomed, otherwise please sit tight” for a senior person, a co-founder and a CEO of a people based company to sarcastically suggest to a customer to take over negotiations for behalf of the group is super unprofessional and disappointing especially the matter is between Stoke and I. This been ongoing for 4 months now and no progress has been made hence this is still an ongoing process for my partner and I however it doesn’t seem like it is going in any positive direction so I would just warn other would be travelers of what they are going into.

Must Read Before Booking with Stoke Travel

Stoke travel is guilty of potentially the worst misrepresentation of accommodation that i've ever seen. We booked what we thought was a reasonably comfortable 8 person dorm in keeping with the hefty 80euro price tag per person per night. Instead we got what can only be described as a 40 man dorm covered in flies, dirty beds and no door! Truly a terrible experience and one that I would not wish on any other traveler. If you are looking to do Running with the Bulls I would not recommend this company as their prices are extremely high relative to what they provide. I have stayed in $5 per night hostels in Asia that were much nicer. If i could give Stoke Travel less than one star i would.

Boat party serious safety issues, near drownings narrowly avoided!

On 29-07-23, our group attended Stoke Travels Paella and Swim boat party event from Barcelona beach. This event turned into near tragedy where at least 4 people very nearly drown. There was a catalogue of failings commencing with the location for the swimming chosen for the swimming, the current too strong and the sea too rough. When people got into trouble it turned out there was no life guard on board. The crew, staff and captain on board were slow to react, and ineffective when they did, only due actions by passengers on board and some who were in the water risking their lives to assist was this avoided. This still resulted in 5 people being stranded 150-200m away from the boat in deep water clinging to two life rings for 40mins before a passing boat got near enough to hear them and rescue them. There was no rescue procedure implemented by staff. Stoke Travel have apologized and do not contest the version of events put to them but say safety of those on board was not their responsibility!

The two worst travel experiences of my life

I made the mistake of booking two Stoke trips at the same time: a week in 'San Sebastien' (using quotes because the surf house is so far out, it's near impossible to get to San Sebastien) and two nights at Oktoberfest. It's really not worth saving the money. The surf house experience was so awful we left early and booked a hotel for the rest of our trip. We did meet some cool people first, and bonded over how disappointing everything was. I should have cancelled the Oktoberfest trip but we'd already booked expensive flights and there weren't many hotels left. Of course, it wasn't any better than San Sebastien - the campground was the worst I've ever stayed in and I wish we'd shelled out for a hotel instead of toughing it out. Customer service was super rude when we followed up about issues. Do yourself a favour and book literally anywhere else. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Party vibes 💃

I stayed at the campsite with stoke, the staff was super gentle and comprehensive. They make me feel like I'm one of them. I loved the vibes they created on the campsite, so genuine. 100% recommended. They really know how to party and how to treat people 🫶

Went to their Oktoberfest camp

Went to their Oktoberfest camp, which was an amazing experience. All staff I met were friendly and helpful and their site had security who were also friendly. The free food and beer was great quality too! Didn't give a 5th star because their initial wait time to get booked in was ludicrously long (2.5hrs) and there was no one there to stop queue skippers.

Avoid at all costs!!! Worst customer service I’ve received!

Booked the Oktoberfest 2020 camping package for my stag party in February this year - initial contact was prompt and very good. Oktoberfest was cancelled last week and received an email from Stoke travel to say they could either keep the £1000 deposit paid and it could be transferred onto another one of their packages for the next 2 years or a refund. As I was needing to rebook another hotel for October I asked for a full refund. I received an email to say they will process the refund but it will take time because of the backlog of refunds due to Covid 19 and that there would be a administration fee of 20% for all refunds (£200). I responded back to say that I was not happy to pay this as this was never in the original email that they sent me and they are refusing to pay the full refund. I understand that there maybe a small admin fee to pay but £200 is an absolute joke!

Awesome place awesome people

Avoid at all cost

I would rate this lower if I could. We got to the site at around midday on Saturday 17th September, so we missed the first night party. We arrived to site and it looked like a scene from the walking dead. The facilities are basic and dirty, there are taps that trickle water and no soap. No loo roll either if you need it. The tents are tiny. I'm 6ft4 and my head touched both ends of the tent. The air bed is a small 2" thick roll up bed and the sleeping bag is about as thin as a bag for life. The staff members all seemed to be drunk or high and the bloke running it actively lied to our faces ( not about the site or the festival but it still matters ). The tents were also pretty run down and muddy with a damp smell inside of them. If you want a bit of personal space, don't come here, the tents touch each other and are actually tied to each other with the guy ropes. Someone also took a crap up one of them, charming. The bar/party area is a few marquees with holes in them and a bunch of travellers serving cheap beer via pouring it from a bottle. The breakfast is guacamole or beans on toast and looked foul. Out of the 10 of us in the group, 8 of us checked into a hotel for the night and I would honestly advise you to do so. You couldn't pay me to step foot in that campsite or even glance at a Stoke Travel experience again. It was dreadful.

Election latest: Farage challenged over spending plans in Reform's 'contract'

The Reform leader Nigel Farage has launched his party's "contract with the people", which they will not call a manifesto. It includes tax cut and spending plans that our deputy political editor Sam Coates suggested to Mr Farage were "deeply unserious".

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage is on his feet in south Wales, where he is launching his party's "contract to the British people" - in essence, their manifesto.

The document runs to 25 pages - compared to 133 published by Labour.

Mr Farage begins by saying simply: "Guess who's back - back again!"

He says he didn't for "one moment" think he would be back running a party - but decided to do so because "Britain is broken".

"There is a lack of leadership", the Reform UK leader says.

We'll update this post with the key election pledges made by Mr Farage...

  • The document contains five core pledges - and the first two focus heavily on immigration . Reform UK pledges to freeze "all non-essential immigration" which it claims will "boost wages, protect public services, end the housing crisis and cut crime";
  • Reform claims it would "stop the boats" in its first 100 days with a four-point plan that would involve leaving the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), with zero illegal immigrants being resettled in the UK, a new government department for immigration, and migrants crossing the channel in small boats being returned to France;
  • The remaining three core pledges ask voters to "imagine no NHS waiting lists"; "imagine good wages for a hard day's work" and "imagine affordable, stable energy bills";
  • A raft of tax cuts are also promised, including raising the minimum threshold of income tax to £20,000 a year, abolishing stamp duty, and abolishing inheritance tax for all estates under £2m;
  • Reform plans to fund these tax cuts by raising £40bn from reducing the interest paid on Bank of England reserves, but the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) has said such a measure is "unlikely to raise even half" of that sum;
  • On health , Reform wants to create an "NHS voucher scheme" for private treatment if people can not get seen by a GP within three days and to hold a public inquiry into excess deaths and "vaccine harms" from the COVID vaccine;
  • Reform UK also vows to increase defence spending to 3% within six years and introduce a new dedicated department for veterans - before recruiting 30,000 people to the British Army;
  • The party also hopes to recruit 40,000 new police officers - and reduce main corporation tax to 20%;
  • Reform also outlines plans to abandon the Windsor Framework , and prepare for re-negotiations on the EU Trade and Co-operation Agreement;
  • The party pledges to support marriage through the tax system, planning to introduce a 25% tax allowance "as soon as finances allow";
  • There is also a plan to scrap HS2 in full - which Reform UK says will save £25bn, describing the high speed rail line as a "bloated vanity project";
  • Mr Farage's party also plans to undertake a reform of the House of Lords - which it would replace with a "smaller, more democratic second chamber";
  • Reform UK also aims to reject the "influence" of the World Health Organisation , and wave goodbye to "cancel culture" with a comprehensive Free Speech Bill;
  • Reform would also overhaul the BBC , and make St George's Day and St David's Day public holidays.

Nigel Farage is "very clear this is about a five-year programme to challenge both the Labour Party and the Conservatives", our deputy political editor  Sam Coates  says.

He says there are a couple of unusual features from this event - the first and probably the most important is we have a party leader telling his party they will not win this election.

"He is quite candid about it," he says.

"They might pick up a handful of seats, but this is not a manifesto-like document that is going to deliver anything like heading to power.

"He is very clear, this is about a five-year programme to challenge both the Labour Party and the Conservatives."

Sam notes "this is not a blueprint for government".

"It is a campaigning document designed to show a direction of travel from a party that wants to shake up the other two big parties in this election," he adds.

Our political correspondent Gurpreet Narwan is next up, and she asks where £50bn of public sector wasted spending would come from.

Nigel Farage says this would be simple as civil servants mostly work from home.

"If you're running a company and things are tight, you say to your managers and middle managers - right, I'm sorry, this is the way it is, you've got to cut £5 in £100," he adds.

Mr Farage says this is "not unrealistic in any way at all".

"The sheer bloating of the civil service that has taken place... since 2019 is just astonishing."

The Reform UK leader goes on to say of the UK: "We're skint.

"Who else would say that in this campaign?

"We're skint, we're in real trouble."

The next question asks Nigel Farage what he would say to those who might like him but don't believe he has the skill to be an actual opposition leader.

"We all have our personalities and yes, of course, I'm fairly decisive," he responds.

"I have an opinion, but it doesn't mean I don't listen and doesn't mean I don't change my mind.

"It doesn't mean I don't respect others and I can't work as part of a team."

He says he "understands the point about compromise" but "equally you have to have a goal".

"I am very confident in what I say and what I believe in," he adds.

"But I think to give leadership you need to have that."

Next up is a question from our deputy political editor Sam Coates , who asks about a proposed additional £141bn of spending every year.

This is far higher than even promised by Liz Truss.

"The scale of this is deeply unserious, isn't it?"

Nigel Farage agrees, saying the Reform UK plan is "radical, it's fresh thinking - it's outside the box".

He goes on to claim that the Tories and Labour Party are "indistinguishable from each other".

Mr Farage stresses again that his fight is about "who the opposition is going to be", as he believes Labour will be in Number 10 in July.

Asked by the BBC if the 24-page contract set out by Reform UK is a wish list rather than a serious plan, Nigel Farage says "it is a promise that this is what we will campaign for over the next five years".

"Labour doesn't want to talk about these issues," he says.

"We've laid out very clearly where we stand philosophically and ideologically on a number of things and this is what we're going to fight for.

"I see no inconsistency whatsoever."

Mr Farage also says "this is what we are going to campaign for".

Over to Richard Tice, who is explaining how Reform UK would pay for the policies outlined in his party's 25-page "contract" with the British people.

He says the costs are set out in their manifesto, with plans to abandon plans for net zero saving billions of pounds.

Here's a brief breakdown of how Reform UK claim they would save around £150bn annually to pay for its policies:

  • An immigration tax could raise £4bn;
  • Savings in immigration costs could total £5bn;
  • A crackdown on benefits could save £15bn;
  • A 50% cut in foreign aid could total £6bn;
  • By scrapping net zero, the UK could save £30bn;
  • On transport, £5bn could be raised;
  • Another £50bn could be raised by avoiding "wasteful government spending";
  • Halting bank interest on QE reserves could equal £35bn.

Nigel Farage goes on to say that Reform UK will not form the government after the 4 July general election but that it would be the first step on the road to the next contest which could be in 2029.

Mr Farage says his aim is to turn this into a "mass movement" and that there is a "breakdown of trust" in politics.

"We are not pretending that we are going to win this general election, we are a very, very new political party," he says.

He adds though that "this election is for our party" and "the first important step on the road to 2029".

He earlier admitted his ambition was to become PM that year.

"Our ambition is to establish a bridgehead in parliament, and to become a real opposition to a Labour government," he adds.

He says the Tories will not be able to provide opposition because "they spend most of their days arguing among themselves, and they're split down the middle when it comes to policy".

Speaking on why he has chosen to launch the party's contract in Wales, the Reform UK leader says "Labour have been in power here since 1997".

"Perhaps there are some lessons we can learn from 25 years of a Labour government in Wales," he says.

He suggests it could be a sign of "what we might be looking forward to in a few weeks time when Sir Keir Starmer becomes PM".

Mr Farage says that in Wales, "taxes are higher" than in England.

He says the "figures in Wales are truly astonishing".

"Waiting times in Wales on the NHS are exactly 50% longer than they are on the other side of the bridge," he adds.

"Education, which has drifted in Wales rapidly in a leftward PC-woke direction, has fallen further behind England."

Mr Farage also claims a Labour government in Wales "reduces your freedoms" and "reduces your choices".

"And of course, the crowning glory of 25 years of Labour government in Wales is the imposition of 20mph speed limits," he adds.

This last comment is met by boos in the crowds.

"In terms of policy, Labour's not very different to the Conservatives -it's just more incompetent," he says.

"It just wastes even more money than Conservative governments do. But here's the point about things going so badly wrong in Wales over 25 years.

"There's been no proper, clear, consistent opposition voice."

Nigel Farage says today is "not a manifesto launch".

"When I say to you manifesto, you're immediate association is lie," he says.

"And that is wholly unsurprising."

He says there are also many millions of Brexit voters "genuinely disappointed" by what has happened and there are "feelings of disenchantment".

"Some people say it's a failure of Brexit - no it isn't," he adds.

"It's a failure of a sovereign government to implement the will of the people and its own manifesto."
