The Who's Roger Daltrey will return to the US for intimate solo tour

roger daltrey on tour

Roger Daltrey , founding member of The Who , will bring his tour, The Voice of The Who, to the U.S. this summer.

With an electric/acoustic band, he'll perform The Who's hits, rarely heard works and his own solo music. The 80-year-old singer plans to perform a "set of Who gems, rarities, solo nuggets and other surprises with an intimate rock-based band and setting as well as answering questions from the audience," according to a press release .

The nine-city tour will take place at intimate venues in June, beginning with Virginia and concluding in Illinois. "The unique venues and amphitheaters Daltrey has chosen for his summer run will showcase Roger’s acoustic interpretations of his extraordinary canon of Who songs and solo work, supported by a hand-picked ensemble of musicians," the statement continues.

Grammy-nominated Scottish singer/songwriter KT Tunstall and singer/songwriter Dan Bern will join Daltrey as special guests at the shows.

Previous: Roger Daltrey is doubtful The Who will 'ever come back to tour America'

Roger Daltrey previously said he was 'doubtful' The Who would do another U.S. tour

Last April, Daltrey contemplated on whether the English rock band would ever return to the U.S. "I don’t know if we’ll ever come back to tour America. There is only one tour we could do, an orchestrated 'Quadrophenia' to round out the catalog. But that’s one tall order to sing that piece of music, as I’ll be 80 next year," he told USA TODAY .

The singer added: "I never say never, but at the moment it’s very doubtful."

Daltrey  underwent vocal cord  surgery to preserve his muscular singing in 2019, but since then he's maintained a healthy slate of performances under the watchful maintenance of his longtime surgeon at Mass General in Boston.

"I screw myself into a ball and whatever comes out, comes out," Daltrey told USA TODAY of his approach to more difficult songs. "It’s the primal feeling more than the notes."

THE WHO Frontman ROGER DALTREY Announces June 2024 'Semi-Acoustic' U.S. Tour

Roger Daltrey — legendary rock icon and co-founder of one of music's most inspirational and influential forces, THE WHO — will be returning to the States on a special solo tour this June, presenting a mostly acoustic set of WHO gems, rarities, solo nuggets and other surprises with an intimate rock-based band and setting as well as answering questions from the audience, kicking off this very exclusive set of shows on June 12 at Virginia's renowned Wolf Trap Filene Center. The nine-city run will continue throughout the month of June (see dates below),wrapping on June 29 at The Pavilion at Ravinia in Highland Park, Illinois.

Special guests for the much-anticipated performances include Grammy -nominated Scottish singer/songwriter KT Tunstall and acclaimed, offbeat singer/songwriter Dan Bern . The unique venues and amphitheaters Daltrey has chosen for his summer run will showcase Daltrey 's acoustic interpretations of his extraordinary canon of WHO songs and solo work, supported by a hand-picked ensemble of musicians. Simon Townshend on guitar, Billy Nicholls on mandolin, Jody Linscott on percussion, Doug Boyle on guitar, John Hogg on bass, Katie Jacoby on violin, Steve Weston on harmonica, Geraint Watkins on keyboards/accordion, Scott Devours on drums.

Daltrey 's return to the States follows THE WHO 's incredibly successful "The Who Hits Back!" tour of 2022, with the band's incomparable frontman drawing praise from all media platforms, including the Dallas Morning News , which said, " Daltrey took flight…roaring and howling and ripping his mic cord through the air like he was lassoing cattle…" The charismatic singer also brought a highly successful solo tour to the States in 2018 via a 10-city run that showcased THE WHO 's legendary rock opera "Tommy" , supported by full orchestral backing. Never content to rest on his laurels, the adventurous artist will continue to peel back the layers on his upcoming June tour, excited about expressing more musical shades of his solo palette, which he has generously shared with audiences in the U.S. and beyond throughout his career.

Also known to be one of rock's more candid, straight-shooters, the working-class Daltrey (originally from London's Shepherd's Bush) will answer questions from the audience during the shows, sharing anecdotes and offering up uniquely tailored renditions of songs seldom performed live either by THE WHO or Daltrey .

In crafting this completely new show set to kick off in June 2024, Daltrey looks forward to unveiling one of his more intimate and unique stage shows, an up close and personal gift to his fans that highlights WHO rarities, solo hits, and other songs from his incredible near 60-year career.

Daltrey , Teenage Cancer Trust 's honorary patron and co-founder of Teen Cancer America (with Pete Townshend ) recently added harmonica to a historic recording. On March 15, DIRE STRAITS ' Mark Knopfler released a new, special recording of his anthemic composition, "Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)" featuring over 60 of the finest rock performers ever assembled on one iconic track, including members of THE BEATLES , THE ROLLING STONES , DIRE STRAITS , THE WHO , PINK FLOYD , QUEEN , BLACK SABBATH , RUSH , GUNS N' ROSES and many more. The milestone release, currently available to order, will raise funds for Teen Cancer America and its U.K. equivalent Teenage Cancer Trust .

Inducted into the Rock And Hall Of Fame with THE WHO in 1990, Daltrey received a Lifetime Achievement award from the Grammy Foundation along with the band in 2001. Daltrey and THE WHO co-founder Pete Townshend received Kennedy Center Honors in 2008. Considered to have one of the most recognizable singing voices of all time, Planet Rock listeners voted Daltrey rock's fifth-greatest voice in music history. He also received stellar reviews for his unique 2018 autobiography, "Thanks A Lot Mr. Kibblewhite" , with one critic describing it as how "the punk became rock's Godfather…" Known for his magnetic presence and rebellious creative spirit, Daltrey has also been an actor and film producer, with multiple roles in films, theatre, and television.

He's released ten solo studio albums, including the acclaimed discs "Daltrey" , "Ride A Rock Horse" , "One Of The Boys" and the 2018 release "As Long As I Have You" , and such hit singles as "I'm Free" , "Giving It All Away" , "Without Your Love" , "Free Me" and "After The Fire" . His solo work has been compiled into two anthologies, "Martyrs And Madmen" (1997) and "Moonlighting" (2005). Queen Elizabeth awarded him a CBE for his service to music and charity in 2004.

Earlier this year, Daltrey opened up about the future of The Who, saying that he is “happy” that “that part of my life is over”. The legendary frontman spoke to  The Times   about the band’s status, stating that ultimately any decision about calling it a day would have to be made alongside  Pete Townshend .

Back in December, Townshend said that  The Who will have talks about where they go next , after playing their most recent show at the Sandringham Estate last summer.

“I think it’s time for Roger and I to go to lunch and have a chat about what happens next. Because Sandringham shouldn’t feel like the end of anything but it feels like the end of an era.”

Roger Daltrey ANNOUNCES SPECIAL SEMI-ACOUSTIC U.S. TOUR IN JUNE

Article contributed by firefly media | published on monday, march 18, 2024.

roger daltrey on tour

Roger Daltrey - legendary rock icon and co-founder of one of music’s most inspirational and influential forces, The Who , will be returning to the States on a special solo tour this June, presenting a mostly acoustic set of Who gems, rarities, solo nuggets and other surprises with an intimate rock-based band and setting as well as answering questions from the audience, kicking off this very exclusive set of shows on June 12th at Virginia’s renowned Wolf Trap Filene Center. The nine-city run will continue throughout the month of June (see dates below), wrapping on June 29th at The Pavilion at Ravinia in Highland Park, Illinois.

Special guests for the much-anticipated performances include Grammy-nominated Scottish singer/songwriter KT Tunstall and acclaimed, offbeat singer/songwriter Dan Bern.   The unique venues and amphitheaters Daltrey has chosen for his summer run will showcase Daltrey’s acoustic interpretations of his extraordinary canon of Who songs and solo work, supported by a hand-picked ensemble of musicians. Simon Townshend – guitar, Billy Nicholls – mandolin, Jody Linscott – percussion, Doug Boyle – guitar, John Hogg – Bass, Katie Jacoby – violin, Steve Weston – harmonica, Geraint Watkins – keyboards/accordion, Scott Devours – Drums.

Daltrey’s return to the States follows The Who’s incredibly successful THE WHO HITS BACK! Tour of 2022, with the band’s incomparable frontman drawing praise from all media platforms, including the Dallas Morning News, which said, ‘Daltrey took flight…roaring and howling and ripping his mic cord through the air like he was lassoing cattle…’ The charismatic singer also brought a highly successful solo tour to the States in 2018 via a 10-city run that showcased The Who’s legendary rock opera TOMMY, supported by full orchestral backing.  Never content to rest on his laurels, the adventurous artist will continue to peel back the layers on his upcoming June tour, excited about expressing more musical shades of his solo palette, which he has generously shared with audiences in the U.S. and beyond throughout his career.

Also known to be one of rock’s more candid, straight-shooters, the working-class Daltrey (originally from London’s Shepherd’s Bush) will answer questions from the audience during the shows, sharing anecdotes and offering up uniquely tailored renditions of songs seldom performed live either by The Who or Daltrey. In crafting this completely new show set to kick off in June 2024, Daltrey looks forward to unveiling one of his more intimate and unique stage shows, an up close and personal gift to his fans that highlights Who rarities, solo hits, and other songs from his incredible near 60-year career.

Roger Daltrey, Teenage Cancer Trust’s Honorary Patron and co-founder of Teen Cancer America (with Pete Townshend) recently added harmonica to a historic recording. On March 15, Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler released a new, special recording of his anthemic composition, “Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)” featuring over 60 of the finest rock performers ever assembled on one iconic track, including members of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Dire Straits, The Who, Pink Floyd, Queen, Black Sabbath, Rush, Guns N’ Roses, and many more. The milestone release, currently available to order, will raise funds for Teen Cancer America and its UK equivalent Teenage Cancer Trust .

WOW! He is 74 years old but you can't tell. He's still ripped. An awesome show in a beautiful old theater. So glad I could take my teenage son to see him before these legends are no more. He played lots of Who material as well as some of his own. Was a real treat!

Roger Daltrey Announces 2021 ‘Live and Kicking’ American Tour

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

Roger Daltrey is coming to America in late August for a rare solo tour. Initial dates and presale tickets have been announced for the Live and Kicking Tour in Nevada and Washington, and more are coming.

“[Daltrey] and members of the Who touring band will be on the road late summer 2021,” reads an announcement on the Who’s official website , “performing some Who hits, a few rarities and some solo hits. So far, three dates have been announced with several more to follow.”

The Who were supposed to spend 2020 on the road in support of their new LP Who , but the pandemic forced them to delay their plans after just a couple of warm-up gigs in London. Last month, Pete Townshend told Rolling Stone that they hoped to resume their touring activities at the New Orleans Jazz Fest in October. “Everything is in the air,” he noted. “Nobody knows what’s going to happen.”

He also said that Daltrey has grown very frustrated by this long break from the road. “When I speak to him, he just goes, ‘I just wanna get out there and sing!'” Townshend said. “‘I can’t use my voice! It’s my instrument! If I don’t use it, I’ll die!'”

In 2018, Daltrey performed the Who’s Tommy on an American tour where he was joined every night by local symphonies. The year prior to that, he did a brief run of North American theaters where he was backed by guitarist Simon Townshend and other members of the Who’s touring band. Their set mixed Who hits like “Pinball Wizard” and “Baby O’Riley” with lesser-known tunes like “Naked Eye,” “Another Tricky Day,” “How Many Friends,” and “Getting In Tune.”

Legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member and front man for the Who Roger Daltrey has a solo North American tour on June 10. So he stopped by Bill Maher ‘s Real Time on Friday to do some reminiscing on his long career and what comes next.

After thanking Daltrey “for all the entertainment over the years,” Maher got right to the point: “I don’t remember seeing you with a shirt,” he said, offering a brief montage of Daltrey in his prime, sans shirt.

They tripped down memory lane, with Daltrey revealing the iconic cover of Who’s Next was a composite of an obelisk holding up a slag heap, which in turn led to a pissing contest among the band members.

Maher asked whether his longtime bandmate, Pete Townshend, appreciates Daltrey. “People don’t listen to songwriters. They listen to songs,” Maher prompted.

“We’re still together,” Daltrey said, allowing that “there’s always been friction. But I think he knows.” Daltrey made the case that the friction drove the art. “We existed on friction,” he said. “That’s where any good creation comes from.” Bands, he said, “are really about chemistry.”

Daltrey showed his age when he referred to being in a band in his younger days as the only straight guy with “three addicts,” and how they would consume vast amounts of whatever was in front of them.

One of his plans beyond the tour is concluding a biopic of the late Who drummer Keith Moon, whom Daltrey said was “extraordinarily talented. He was fantastic. They called him sloppy, but he was anything but.” Daltrey allowed that Moon was a “rollercoaster” at times, but said the biopic would be “joyous, it’s tragic, there’s so much narrative. I want to put it on the screen.”

Daltrey was born in a tube station during WWII, and his family lived in the rubble and suffered poverty for 15 to 20 years after that. His first guitar was something he made himself, since there was no money to purchase one. But when the Who formed, they used huge cabinets as a way to impress their crowd that they were talented, he said.

This week’s panel discussion featured  Kellyanne Conway , former senior counselor to President Trump,  Fox News  contributor, and author of the #1  New York Times  Best Seller, Here’s the Deal: A Memoir , and  Joshua Green ,  Bloomberg Businessweek  national correspondent and author of The Rebels: Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and the Struggle for a New American Politics.

The panel argued about abortion, the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections and how 2024 is shaping up, and the state of the economy. Conway dominated the conversation, getting some zingers in and keeping Maher back on his heels throughout.

Maher’s “New Rules” editorial focused on the shortcomings of attorney general Merrick Garland, whose slow reactions Maher likened to “if the 405 was a person,” a reference to the notoriously crowded Los Angeles freeway. Watch the video above for the complete take.

Daltry ready for life after the Who

Front man, 80, still passionate about singing, performing.

Singer Roger Daltrey of English rock band The Who performs June 23, 2023, at the Paris La Defense Arena in Nanterre, western Paris.

“Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!”

Considering that he has devoted much of the past 60 years to his career as the lead singer in the Who, you wouldn’t expect to hear Roger Daltrey laughing uproariously over the apparent demise of the band long synonymous with his name. Especially not just a day after Who co-founder Pete Townshend stated in a podcast he was “not doing” a farewell tour that he himself had proposed only three weeks earlier.

But Daltrey, who performs a solo show May 6 at the Shell in San Diego ahead of a June tour, laughed so hard during a recent interview you might have thought he was watching a favorite film comedy. The singer’s long burst of “ha ha has” was in response to his interviewer noting that — more than anyone — Daltrey knows just how prone the mercurial Townshend is to changing his mind in a near-instant.

After pausing to contain his laughter, the veteran singer grew more serious.

“If Pete doesn’t want to tour, I don’t want to be back with the Who on the road, at 81, with someone who doesn’t want be there — if that’s what he’s saying,” said Daltrey who turned 80 on March 1. “But you know, every dog has its day and it was a wonderful ride.”

Whether this dog has truly had its day remains to be seen, particularly since Daltrey — in a 2000 San Diego Union-Tribune interview — referred to Townshend as “a habitual liar.”

Regardless, Townshend sounded less than enthused when he told the New York Times in March: “I don’t get much of a buzz from performing with the Who. If I’m really honest, I’ve been touring for the money. My idea of an ordinary lifestyle is pretty elevated.”

Such statements don’t encourage Daltrey to think another reunion trek seems feasible. With the Who down to two members — drummer Keith Moon died in 1978, bassist John Entwistle in 2002 — touring as a one-man version of the Who, minus Townshend, is not a viable option.

“I won’t do it with someone who is halfhearted about it,” Daltrey said. “The music is too important to me. The reason the Who was so powerful is because we meant it. We took your face off when we played; we didn’t swan about on stage.”

‘Putting me in a corner’

What if Townshend changes his mind and expresses enthusiasm to reunite with Daltrey for one final Who tour?

“You’re putting me in a corner,” he replied. “I’d be up for it if the reason Pete’s doing it isn’t just to make money. I’ll do it to make good music and to show people what we were, before we leave the stage forever. You can’t just half turn up for a tour.

“Singers can’t dial it in at concerts, because it shows immediately. I’m doing it because I love it, and it’s what I do … I’ve got a voice and I want to use it. I have never toured only for the money. Yes, the money is very useful. But I couldn’t do it just for that; you can’t. You need to be passionate about what you do and you really need to connect with the audiences. If you don’t, you’re failing. “

But Daltrey’s San Diego concert will feature him sharing the stage with Townshend. That is, Simon Townshend — Pete’s younger brother — a longtime touring member in both Daltrey’s band and in the Who.

“I always use Simon Townshend; he’s been with me on my tours since 1994,” Daltrey said. “We go back a long way — I used to change Simon’s nappies! He’s a sweetheart and he’s a great musician. There’s something about his voice when we sing harmonies, because it’s a (Pete) Townshend derivative. We work great together and I love him dearly.”

In June, Daltrey and a predominantly British band will undertake a nine-city U.S. tour he is billing as “semi-acoustic.” It is designed to focus on songs from his solo albums, along with some Who favorites.

But Daltrey’s May 5 show at the Shell will — apart from him and Simon Townshend — feature an otherwise all-electric band of American musicians. And their repertoire will, he said, lean more towards Who songs than his solo work.

‘Kind of ridiculous’

Daltrey’s most recent concerts took place at London’s historic Royal Albert Hall, where six performances were held between March 18 and 24. They were held to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust, which has raised more than $39 million since he founded the charity organization in 2000. He is stepping down as its head this year but will still be involved.

Last month’s first two Royal Albert Hall concerts were headlined by the Who, in what may end up as the band’s final appearances. The concluding March 24 show included a version of the Who’s classic “Baba O’Riley” that featured vocals by Daltrey, Robert Plant and Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder.

“My career has been … kind of ridiculous, really, when I think of about it,” Daltrey said, speaking from his home in the English countryside. “There’s something in me, this identity, that only comes out when I’m singing. I just love singing, it’s as simple as that. I love connecting with my voice in a different way than when I’m speaking. I just love it!”

Daltrey discussed music and his ridiculous career with the Union-Tribune for nearly 45 minutes on April 17. Here are highlights from that conversation. His quotes have been edited for clarity and length.

You turned 80 on March 1. So, happy belated birthday. Does music mean something more or different to you at 80 than when you were 20, 40 or 70?

No, it doesn’t. I’ve always sang — from the age of 6, when I started in the church choir — until now.

How do you maintain your voice and how often do you practice?

I never practice. And I think, at the moment, I’m singing, possibly the best I ever have in my life. I had a very rough period in the late 1990s and early 2000s, where I had — it turned out I was OK — but it was a potential vocal cord cancer and I managed to get it sorted. I also managed to hear myself singing for the first time, which was a luxury for me. In the ‘60, ‘70s, and ‘80s, it seemed to be the mission of the rest of the band to drown me out. It felt like it anyway! They were so loud that it became hard work to hear myself.

What happened that enabled you to hear yourself better?

In-ear (audio) monitors that let you get the mix you want — like, if the guitar’s too loud! — and always hear yourself. That makes an enormous difference to a singer. Also, and I didn’t realize it until the ‘90s, but I’d been deaf for a long time in my life. And I don’t think it was caused by the band.

When I think back on it, it was caused by working in a sheet metal factory when I was a teenager, grinding welds down every day, with no hearing protection. I think that’s what definitely took the top (range) out of my hearing, rather than the band. It’s one of those things I’ve managed to survive.

In 1993 when I was covering the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions, the drummer from the Doors, John Densmore, said to Doors’ guitarist Robby Krieger: “Do you remember when we were playing at the Fillmore, and Jim (Morrison) thought he was Roger Daltrey and swung the microphone cord around and hit Bill Graham in the head?”

Ha ha ha ha ha!

Did you ever have a mishap with the microphone when you were swinging it around on stage?

I usually hit myself! I’ve only ever hit one person deliberately with the microphone. Every time there’s been some mishap, the microphone has always swung back and hit me, either in the kneecap — which is very painful — or, even worse, in the crotch. I twirled it because the Who was such a manic band, with Moon and Townshend, that it enlivened my side of the stage.

I’ve got to ask: Who was it you deliberately hit?

I don’t know who it was. All I know is that they’re sorry that they threw something that nearly took my eye out on stage. I happened to see them do it. They were trapped in the crowd. And I was quite a good shot with that microphone …

Unlike Keith Moon, you never drove a car into a hotel swimming pool or threw TVs out hotel windows. Were you ever tempted to?

I thought then — and still think now — it was very much puerile behavior. You know, I was born during an air raid in World War II. I was older than the other members of the Who and came from a different area of London, which was much, much poorer — I can still remember food rationing if you can believe that. At the age of 15, I was kicked out of school and I went to work as a sheet metal worker.

To make it in the band, I was working eight hours a day doing sheet metal work, then coming home, swapping my clothes for something a bit cleaner, and going out working in the band at night. So, it’s always been (dismaying) for me to see something so puerile and distracting as (hotel room destruction). I found it quite stupid, to be honest.

You were a very young man when the Who recorded “My Generation,” with its famous “hope I die before get old” lyric. Do you put yourself in a young man’s frame of mind when you sing it now?

I sing it as a singer delivering it. I talk in the song, and I say: “Now, you talk about your generation, I’ll talk about my generation.” I don’t pretend to be young. I sing the song.

A big disappointment about the Who is how infrequently the band has made albums since the 1970s.

Well, you can’t go back. It’s always been a little bit of a weight on my shoulders that (Pete and I) have never managed to go into the studio and bang things around between us. I’ve written songs and laid them down — I’m not a slouch — and who knows what could come of them if we could collaborate?

What would it take to make that happen?

(laughing) An earthquake!

The Who isn’t currently scheduled to perform live anywhere. But its co-founder and lead guitarist Pete Townshend thinks it’s just a matter of time before they hit the road again.

During an interview on the Jim Kerr Rock and Roll Morning Show for Q104.3 FM in New York City, Townshend said that while there’s still a lot of planning to do, he and lead singer Roger Daltrey hope to work out the details of a tour sometime later this year.

UPDATE! 24 JUNE 2021

I hope to re-book them in the near future, and to those of you who have bought tickets, please accept my sincere apologies.   I do appreciate your support and can’t wait to get back to work once the time is right.”

I think it is nice to keep up the spirits and sound of a great music band. I have been to a Who music concert in Tampa Florida it was a great concert but a sad ending for the bass player John it was his last gig. They performed great. Pete Townsend was a great guitar playing and vocals too. Zack Starkey did a great job playing the drums that night too. I wish you lots of luck with your tour. 😊

' src=

Roger, nothing in Portland?? So close. 😫

' src=

Play”Free Me”

' src=

Looking forward to seeing you in NY.

Hoping Pete eventually tours again with you or even alone. A full performance of Quadrophenia with all of you guys would be an amazing follow up to the last concert I’ve been to in too many years (May 2019 at MSG – my then 12yo’s FIRST concert ever 😉 Classy, huh?)

I have been a big fan of The Who for 50 years so glad to see Roger hitting the road again but it makes me concerned about what Pete is up to? I hope he is healthy. I also hope they are not feuding. There is no band that has the talent like The Who

' src=

Please think about booking a show at the Lakeview Ampitheater in Syracuse, New York. I am a a huge fan but as an IATSE Stagehand I have been out of work for 14 months and would not be able to afford to go see you at this time. I would love to finally work one of your shows.

' src=

Hope you make it to Oklahoma! I saw you in Thackerville several years ago!

' src=

For everyone thinking Roger touring is a sign that there will never be another tour with Pete again I disagree. Roger does these tours usually as a way to get his voice in shape for either a Who tour or and album. It’s like an athlete doing training.

' src=

Please come to Florida

Come to Connecticut. We have 2 great casinos that have venues for performances.

David Tinnell, you’re not allowed to leave the ‘h’ out of TOWNSHEND.

I was thrilled to see the news that Roger is touring. My son and I are traveling all the way from Louisiana to see Rog in Seattle. We can’t wait. I have been a fan of The Who since 1975. They are the Greatest Rock N Roll band in the world. I am so happy my son is a fan too. We danced to “Without Your Love” from McVicar at his wedding. Love you Roger. Your voice is magnificent. Wish I could meet you. Stay safe and be well. I can’t wait till September 3rd. Hope we are in the first row!

' src=

Make a point of hitting Columbus, Ohio.

' src=

Hoping for a show in Atlanta

' src=

Excited about this, luckily with a little help from a friend when pre sale for this show started we scored first row tickets for Tahoe. We are traveling from Atlanta, I only travel great distances for 2 bands & The Who is one of those 2. My friend who is joining me is reaching the 100 mark for Who concerts all around the world. During this pandemic I at least had the memory of Rock Legends Cruise VIII & all 3 performances especially the last 1 on Deck, on your birthday, March 1 2020. I was the 1 who assembled the letters that spelled out “HAPPY BIRTHDAY “ & gave you 3 birthday cards at the photo op. Thank you. Thanks to everyone in the band. I’m extremely excited !!!

' src=

Thanks for recently reaching out to all of your fans on 4/28/21 on YouTube, courtesy of Apple Music. (Pete Townshend & Roger Daltrey: ‘The Who Sell Out’ Released in 1967 and their Legacy | Apple Music). Refreshing interview, always a good story in there, and great to see your healthy, smiling faces. Highly recommend it!

I don’t know about “Lockdown Blues”. 😂 Maybe pass on that one.

Great you are touring, considering the effort and cost involved., but glad to hear your train keeps on rolling.

You both are loved! Stay well.

' src=

Uk dates for 2021/22 would be amazing

Hello Roger,

It would be great to see you in New Jersey.

PLEASE COME TO WISCONSIN!!!

What about UK or Germany?

' src=

Hi sad to miss out on the 2020 and re organised 2021 show at Wembley. Hope that Roger and Pete get to do another UK tour soon. My last concert was Tommy at Royal Albert Hall and all I can say it was the best I have ever seen them play and their own enjoyment rubbed off on us all there. To do all of Tommy and then with no breaks another 45 mins of there back catalogue was absolutely amazing. I am 74 now and hope to see them again.

' src=

pls come To montreal qc.

' src=

Come play in Boston, MA, USA!!!

' src=

How about a live, on-line concert!! I would certainly pay for such an event. I’m sure WHO fans all over the world would respond, and it would be as profitable as a whole tour….How about it Pete and Roger??

' src=

Would love to see you in Chicago. However, if you can’t make it here, I’ll be going mobile to another city. You guys are now, and always will be, the greatest band when I need to rock!

' src=

And Toronto! I was at the final WHO concert at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1982! I was way up in the cheap seats. I Thought that that would be it but we have been graced by your performances in 1989 and more recently up in Orillia!

' src=

Roge, we connected briefly at one of you Boston shows with Pete. Lifelong fan here. You are amazing. Please come back as we love you here… Boston Strong!

' src=

Many would love it if you had dates on the East Coast; especially North Carolina.

Please come to Atlanta, GA……….

The Who frontman Roger Daltrey to headline Omaha’s annual Memorial Park concert

Previous years’ events have featured melissa etheridge, sheryl crow, elvis costello, wyclef jean.

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Mayor Jean Stothert had a big reveal Tuesday afternoon: the headliner for the annual Memorial Park concert .

The lineup begins with Inhaler , a band led by U2 star Bono’s son. Roger Daltrey, lead singer of British rockers The Who, will headline.

Last year’s concert was headlined by Melissa Etheridge and also featured Herman’s Hermits. In 2022 , Sheryl Crow was the headliner, with opening act Dave Mason. In 2021 , it was Elvis Costello and Wyclef Jean.

The city’s free concert , one of its longtime Fourth of July traditions, is set for Friday, June 28 — the Friday before July 4. Performances will start at 6:30 p.m., with fireworks set to music getting underway at 10 p.m. The soundtrack will be broadcast on KKCD 105.9 FM.

As for weather during the event, Omaha Parks and Recreation says the concert hasn’t been rained out since the City took it over -- and officials are hoping that streak holds. Memorial Park will open at 5 a.m. that day for attendees to claim their spots. The stage has been moved to the Dodge Street side of the park.

The event will also feature videos playing throughout the day of Omaha-based bands. Those interested in submitting a video or booking studio time can do so via an online form . The deadline is Midnight Tuesday.

Pete Townshend Says The Who Will 'Certainly' Tour Again By 2025

The Who have no plans for a farewell tour, but guitarist Pete Townshend is certain that the band will hit the road again by next year at the latest.

Speaking with Q104.3 New York's Jim Kerr Rock and Roll Morning Show on Wednesday, Townshend explained that while there are many decisions to be made, he and frontman Roger Daltrey fully intend to work out the details of a tour at some point this year.

"We certainly will [tour], I don't know when," Townshend explained. "Maybe later this year in '24, maybe early '25, but we will definitely be back."

He acknowledged that there has been some confusion about whether he and Daltrey actually want to tour again with The Who. Townshend reportedly declined an offer for a Who tour this year , but he tells Q104.3 that was only because his schedule was too busy with other projects, including the revival of The Who's Tommy musical on Broadway.

" Roger is out doing a few shows at the moment," Townshend noted. "We were offered a tour as a final tour by Live Nation in August and I turned it down. But I didn't turn it down because they wanted it to be marked up as a 'final tour.' I turned it down because I'm involved in Tommy , I have some other projects that I'm working on, and my year is really busy so I turned it down. But there will be a tour soon, without question."

Townshend said that a longstanding source of dissonance is that he and Daltrey have fundamentally different relationships with performing live. Townshend admitted that his own ambivalence for playing live is unusual for someone in his position (as a legendary rock star), and abnormal to many of his peers, including Daltrey.

"My feeling about performing is very different to [Roger's], but very different to pretty much everybody that I know," the guitarist admitted. "I don't get much out of it. I don't enjoy it that much. I'm not a natural-born performer, but when I look at myself on the stage after I've got an adrenaline rush, I have always managed to pull off some amazing stuff. But it's never really fulfilled me in the same way that sitting in a studio does and writing a song, writing music or even writing words, lyrics.

"For me, there's no drive to perform, no anxiety to get in front of an audience and be validated," he continued. "I get that from people responding to my work as a writer and a composer and a recording artist. Some people just love being in front of an audience, and Roger is one of those people. He comes alive, you know. ... He fronts the band in the most incredible way. I'm a little bit blasé."
