Ratings and Reviews

Offer the basic please.

It is mind-blowing that a airline app like this can't display your booking when you are logged in. You have to enter your booking number and last name to find it. Not much inspiration from the two mother companies Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa. Please enter this century.

What kind of joke of an app is this?!

Less then 24 hours before my flight - I can’t check in, my name is not found, confirmation number DOES’T work, E-ticket number DOESN’T work. I’m in Turkey. Not in a comfort of my home country where everyone speaks my language. What do you think I’m supposed to do? Fix it!!!

Terrible app

This app is a total mess. It took me 2 hours and several unsuccessful tries before I was able to check into my flight. Even then I could not pick my seat. This is pretty basic stuff that the airline needs to address.

A family with a daughter who has a severe allergy to peanuts was ordered off a flight to Turkey after they tried to ask passengers not to eat nuts on the four-hour trip.

Georgie Palmer, her husband Nick and their daughters were on a SunExpress flight from London Gatwick to Dalaman. Their 12-year-old, Rosie, has an anaphylactic allergy to peanuts, meaning she could die if she comes into contact with them. They asked the crew to make an announcement requesting passengers not to eat peanuts. This request was turned down, so instead the parents did their best to alert passengers in the plane.

A SunExpress spokesperson said: “Due to the insistent behaviour of the passenger to others on board that they should not consume nuts, the captain decided it would be safest if the family did not travel on our flight.”

The family say they spent £5,000 on new flights the following day with easyJet, and a night’s stay in a hotel.

In 2016, 15-year-old Natasha Ednan-Laperouse died from anaphylaxis in a hospital in France after suffering an allergic reaction on a British Airways flight from London Heathrow to Nice. She had eaten a baguette brought from Pret à Manger at the airport that contained sesame seeds.

These are the key questions and answers about flying with a food allergy.

What is a food allergy?

Some people’s immune system reacts to certain types of food as a threat. In most cases, the reaction is distressing but mild. But in severe cases an allergy can cause anaphylaxis – which the NHS calls “a life-threatening allergic reaction that happens very quickly”. The throat and tongue can swell to such an extent that they stop breathing.

According to the NHS, the most common allergic foods include milk, eggs, wheat and shellfish. But nuts and legumes are the most common sources of allergic reaction. They include: peanuts, cashews, pistachios, brazil nuts, walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, soybeans, peas and chickpeas. Celery, mustard and sesame seeds are also potentially harmful.

The most effective emergency treatment is an injection of adrenaline. Many people with allergies carry adrenaline auto injectors, often known by the brand name EpiPen. The user injects a dose of the hormone into the thigh. For some people, a second dose may be required.

What are the international rules on flying and food allergies?

There no specific legislation for passengers. In the 580-page Manual of Civil Aviation Medicine , published by the UN body responsible for international aviation, ICAO, the only references to allergies concern flight crew. (The organisation says: “A pilot with allergic symptoms severe enough to require medication should probably not be flying.”)

In lieu of international rules, each airline makes its own policy. These vary dramatically. Virgin Atlantic says: “Peanuts are never knowingly included in any of our meals on board.” Emirates says: “We serve nuts on all our flights, either as a meal ingredient or as an accompaniment to drinks. Traces of nut residue could be passed on to other surfaces of the aircraft as well as through the air conditioning system.”

The International Air Transport Association ( Iata ), the airlines’ trade body, places the emphasis on the passenger, saying: “Severe allergic reactions on board are an extremely rare occurrence. However, when they do occur, the consequences may be amplified because of the remote environment. In that context, allergen-sensitive passengers susceptible to severe allergic reactions should do everything in their power to prevent these cases or be prepared if it does happen.”

What are the basic precautions?

If you or anyone you are planning to travel with suffers from a food allergy, you should discuss with your doctor whether it is safe to fly.

If they give the go-ahead, check that travel insurance will be valid and identify the best airline on the route you wish to travel on. You can see the food allergy policies on the most commonly flown airlines here:

  • British Airways
  • Virgin Atlantic

Tell the airline in advance. Each airline has its own policy; Tui insists it is told at least four days ahead.

Take medication, usually two EpiPens, along with documentation – ideally a letter from your doctor – to avoid problems when passing through airport security. Keep this close by, for example in the seat pocket, during the flight. You might also want to pack sanitising wipes.

At check-in, remind the agent of the allergy issue.

At the gate you can ask if someone in your party can board early to wipe down armrests, meal trays and seats to try to remove nut dust.

When boarding the plane, tell the cabin crew. “Consider bringing your own sanitising wipes if you wish to wipe down the armrests, meal trays and seatback areas of your seats,” says Iata.

British Airways gives specific instructions: “Advise cabin crew and the people seated next to you of your allergy, where you have placed the medication and what to do in an emergency. Our cabin crew can speak to people seated near to you to help explain your allergy.”

Will cabin crew make an announcement about the allergy?

Many airlines will inform passengers that there is someone with an allergy on board and ask fellow travellers not to consume nuts. But some will not. Iata says: “Consider mentioning to the passengers sitting close to you or your allergic child that you or your child has a severe allergy.” It was after doing this that Georgie Palmer and her family were asked to leave the SunExpress aircraft.

A spokesperson for SunExpress said: “We refrain from making these kinds of announcements as, like many other airlines, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment on our flights, nor prevent other passengers from bringing food items containing allergens on board.”

I’ve heard airlines carry EpiPens as part of the inflight medical kit?

Yes, but you should not rely on this. If the carrier knows you have an allergy but do not have the necessary medication, you may be denied boarding.

Jet2 warns passengers: “If you carry medication for a severe allergy, such as an EpiPen, it is very important that you bring this with you on board the aircraft. If we are made aware of a severe allergy and you are not carrying your required medication, you may be refused travel.”

British Airways says: “Cabin crew are trained to recognise symptoms of anaphylaxis and administer treatment but if you are travelling with family, friends or guardians, they would be expected to treat you first.”

Why can’t airlines simply ban nuts on planes?

As an action that could potentially save lives at very little cost to other passengers in terms of enjoyment, that appears a solid idea. But the airlines say it would be nigh-impossible to enforce:

  • Inflight meals cannot be guaranteed to be produced in a nut-free environment, so may contain traces.
  • Airlines cannot prevent other passengers from bringing their own food onboard, which may include items that trigger an allergic reaction. Security staff at airports are looking for weapons, not potentially lethal foods.
  • Nut dust may be carried on passengers’ clothing.

Do other allergic conditions cause concern?

Yes, as Valerie Coleshaw from Bolton found to her considerable financial cost. Her cabin baggage – including her asthma inhaler – was taken away from her at Manchester airport because the flight to Amsterdam was so full. She understood that it would be returned at Amsterdam. Instead, it was checked through to her final destination, Buenos Aires.

Ms Coleshaw informed ground staff, who told the captain, who decided she couldn’t fly in case there was a medical emergency requiring a diversion. In that case, she lost an entire Antarctic cruise, which had cost her in total over £10,000.

British family says SunExpress airline kicked them off flight to Turkey over daughter's peanut allergy

A 12-year-old girl and her family from Britain were kicked off a SunExpress flight from London’s Gatwick Airport to Turkey over her peanut allergy, according to the girl’s father.

Nick Sollom, 48, told The Telegraph that the airline booted him, his wife and their two children from the flight after raising concerns over his daughter’s peanut allergy and requesting that the pilot make an announcement asking passengers to refrain from eating peanuts during the flight.

"They just said the captain has refused to do this," Sollom told the outlet. "And he will not make any sort of announcement. It’s not his policy or company policy to do this."

SunExpress confirmed to Fox Business Digital that Sollom had raised a concern about his family member’s peanut allergy and that his request for an announcement to be made to other passengers was denied.

"We refrain from making these kinds of announcements as, like many other airlines, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment on our flights, nor prevent other passengers from bringing food items containing allergens on board," the airline said in a statement to Fox Business Digital.

The Turkish-German airline said Sollom continued to ask passengers to refrain from eating nuts, prompting the captain to take further action.

"Due to the insistent behavior of the passenger to others on board that they should not consume nuts, the captain decided it would be safest if the family did not travel on our flight," the airline said. "When this was explained to Mr. Sollom, he did exhibit aggressive behavior towards our crew members and tried to gain access to the cockpit. To ensure the safety of our crew and our passengers on board, we cannot tolerate aggressive and unruly behavior on our flights."

FRONTIER AIRLINES SAYS ITS FACING ‘WIDESPREAD ABUSE’ OF WHEELCHAIR SERVICE

Sollom denied displaying any such "aggressive behavior" when speaking to The Telegraph.

The airline said its website states that passengers must notify the airline of any "special care required due to a medical condition" 48 hours in advance of a flight, noting that in Sollom’s case, no such notification was received.

According to The Telegraph, Sollom said that when he booked his family's travel arrangements there was no way to get in touch with the airline to give that notification, and that when they got to the airport, someone at the SunExpress check-in counter said that after the family gets on the plane, they should "please inform our cabin crew about your allergies."

The father told The Telegraph that his family was out almost $5,400 after having to book a last-minute flight with another airline .

SunExpress acknowledged the inconvenience to the family.

"However, we are fully aware that this was an upsetting situation for the family, and we are taking the incident as an opportunity to conduct a review of the information provided during our booking process to ensure more effective solutions for passengers with allergies," the airline’s statement said.

A BBC star was kicked off a flight after asking passengers not to eat peanuts because of her daughter’s peanut allergies, with the act leaving the pilot infuriated.

British weather presenter Georgie Palmer together with her husband Nick Sollom and their two kids Rosie and Annie were asked to get off a SunExpress flight from London Gatwick to Dalaman in Turkey on Tuesday.

The popular TV personality shared a lengthy Instagram post slamming the Turkish-German airline for not only kicking her family off the flight, but for refusing to make a standard announcement asking passengers not to eat peanuts.

The 49-year-old explained that she instead had to ask passengers not to eat peanuts, adding that they were happy to do.

But the flight’s captain allegedly demanded the family leave before he took off.

The BBC weather presenter slammed the airline in an Instagram post. Picture: Instagram

“I thanked the beautiful souls on our plane for helping us,” she said in the Instagram post, according to The Sun.

“Many of them hugged, cheered and held our hands as we were forced to disembark.

“The SunExpress captain and cabin crew refused to make the standard announcement on behalf of our daughter.

“We gently asked the passengers at the front of the plane to share our request.

Georgie shared a snap of supportive passengers. Picture: Instagram

“Row by row, all the passengers turned back to kindly ask the row behind to please not eat nuts on the flight.

“It was calm, earnest and with an overwhelming sense of solidarity and empathy.”

Georgie added: “There’s no beef with simple asks like these. People get it!

“We were hoofed off the plane after the angry little captain shouted at us from the cockpit.”

She said they were discriminated against for “simply having an allergy”.

According to The Sun, the family booked into an airport hotel and took an easyJet flight to Dalaman the next day – costing them an extra £5,000 ($A9600).

Georgie told the Daily Mail : “The captain decided because of my daughter’s allergy he didn’t want to fly with her on board.

“When he found out I had spoken to the other passengers he was screaming at me from the cockpit.

“He was so angry, the next thing I knew we were told to get off the plane.

“How we were treated was disgusting – nobody working on that plane showed one ounce of compassion.”

A SunExpress spokesman said: “We take the safety of our passengers very seriously.

“Shortly after boarding our flight, the passenger raised a concern about one of his family group having a serious peanut allergy.

“They requested an announcement to other passengers. We refrain from making these kinds of announcements.

“Like many other airlines, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment on our flights.

“Nor can we prevent other passengers from bringing food items containing allergens on board.

“Due to the insistent behaviour of the passenger to others on board, the captain decided it would be safest if the family did not travel.

“When this was explained to the passenger, he behaved aggressively towards our crew members and tried to gain access to the cockpit.

“To ensure the safety of our crew and our passengers on board, we cannot tolerate aggressive and unruly behaviour on our flights.

According to The Sun , Mr Sollom denies acting aggressively.

Many have taken to social media to weigh in on the debacle, with plenty of users siding with the pilot.

“The pilot is a national treasure,” one person wrote.

“As they should have been,” a second wrote, referring to the family getting kicked off.

BBC presenter Georgie Palmer kicked off flight over child’s peanut allergy dispute

Severe peanut allergy ends up costing British family £5000 ($10,390).

BBC weather presenter Georgie Palmer, 49, along with her husband Nick Sollom, 48, and daughters Rosie, 12, and Annie, 14, were kicked off a SunExpress flight after asking passengers to not eat peanuts due to Rosie’s severe allergy.

Nick Sollom told The Telegraph they were removed from the three-and-a-half-hour flight from London Gatwick to Dalman, Turkey, after the captain and crew refused to accommodate their request to announce Rosie’s peanut allergy to the whole cabin.

Her allergy is extreme and being near peanuts can trigger an anaphylactic shock for the 12-year-old, so the couple wanted to take extra precautions during the flight.

Sollom said he encountered the first red flag of their experience when booking the flight. He said there was no way to notify the airline about his daughter’s allergy and he only saw a simple “once on board, please inform our cabin crew about your allergies” on the airline’s website.

On the day of the flight, the personnel at the SunExpress check-in desk also told him to inform the cabin crew once on board.

However, once in the cabin, Sollom claimed the crew “didn’t really care” when he made a request to ask other passengers not to eat nuts. He said the captain also refused to help the family and locked himself in the cockpit, leaving the cabin crew to resolve the issue.

“They just said the captain has refused to do this. And he will not make any sort of announcement. It’s not his policy or company policy to do this,” Sollom told The Telegraph .

“They just kept trying to say that the captain would not come out and discuss this, the matter was closed,” he said.

Desperate for help, the couple decided to take care of the situation themselves, starting with Georgie Palmer speaking to the first two rows of the flight.

She shared on Instagram: “We gently asked the passengers at the front of the plane to share our request.

“Row by row, all the passengers turned back to kindly ask the row behind to please not eat nuts on the flight.”

A couple also helped the family spread the word, but Sollom said “the captain then caught wind that communication had been made to other passengers. And he just said, ‘right, bags off, kick them off’.”

Sollom said he knocked on the cabin door twice to try to resolve the issue with the captain but was ignored.

After getting booted off the flight, Sollom said they had to spend £5000 ($10,390) for last-minute bookings and accommodation.

Rosie felt humiliated and said: “I was treated like I had done something wrong by the crew only for having an allergy.”

Turkish-German airline SunExpress claims Nick Sollom and his family were aggressive towards staff. Photo / Getty Images

A spokesperson from SunExpress acknowledged the family’s case in a statement shortly after.

“We refrain from making these kinds of announcements as, like many other airlines, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment on our flights, nor prevent other passengers from bringing food items containing allergens on board.

“Due to the insistent behaviour of the passenger to others on board that they should not consume nuts, the captain decided it would be safest if the family did not travel on our flight.”

The statement also said Sollom exhibited aggressive behaviour and tried to gain access to the cockpit, which he denies.

The Turkish-German airline stated its website specifies passengers must notify the airline 48 hours in advance for any special care required due to a medical condition.

“No such notification was received from the passengers in this instance,” SunExpress said.

The airline said it was reviewing its booking process to create more effective solutions for passengers with allergies.

The BBC announcer quickly replied to the airline’s claims, and said it was “absolute nonsense”.

Palmer also denied the airline’s claims they were aggressive to the staff and said her husband did not try to get into the cockpit.

To continue their planned holiday, the family opted for an EasyJet flight to the Turkish holiday resort the next day and shared that the crew helped them by asking passengers to avoid opening peanut packets.

SunExpress’ actions have drawn criticism from Nadim Ednan-Laperouse, co-founder of The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, a prominent advocate for food allergy awareness in Britain.

Ednan-Laperouse, who lost his daughter Natasha to a fatal allergic reaction on a flight in 2016, described the airline’s behaviour as “shocking and unacceptable”.

He said “food allergies are an illness, not a lifestyle choice”, and highlighted the need for airlines to improve their policies and communication with food-allergic passengers.

“Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. We often hear from families with food allergies who tell us their awful stories about airline travel. This is worrying as the world is becoming ever more allergic.

“The airline should immediately reappraise the way they engage with food-allergic customers and make their policies clear on their website,” he said.

Each year, between 20 and 40 deaths are attributed to anaphylaxis, according to the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

An airline kicked a family off the plane after they made their own no-peanut announcement when the crew refused to

  • A family was removed from a flight over an incident regarding a peanut allergy.
  • The cabin crew refused to ask passengers not to eat nuts, so the family made its own announcement.
  • Airlines refusing to make nut-allergy announcements is common and frustrates many.

Insider Today

A family was kicked off a flight for orchestrating an announcement over one member's peanut allergy, according to multiple reports.

Georgie Palmer was flying with her husband and two daughters from London to Dalaman, Turkey, with SunExpress on May 21 when the dispute broke out, MailOnline reported .

Palmer's daughter Rosie has a severe peanut allergy that could result in a fatal anaphylactic reaction, she told the outlet.

But airline staff refused to make an announcement asking other passengers not to eat peanuts. According to an Instagram post seen by MailOnline, Palmer took matters into her own hands.

"We gently asked the passengers at the front of the plane to share our request," she wrote. "Row by row, as swift as a carefully crafted toppling domino trail, all the passengers turned back to kindly ask the row behind to please not eat nuts on the flight."

She added that none of the passengers minded.

But, she told the outlet, it enraged the pilot. She said he began to yell at them and ultimately ordered them to leave. As a result, she said, the family spent about $6,400 booking alternative flights and hotels.

In a statement to the Mail, a spokesperson for SunExpress said the airline did not make announcements like this as it "cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment on our flights."

Passengers have to notify the airline of special requirements 48 hours in advance, the spokesperson told Business Insider in a statement. They said Palmer didn't do that.

Palmer, in response, told the BBC that she had tried to make contact but could not reach anyone.

Related stories

The airline also told the Mail that Palmer's husband, Nick Sollom, was "aggressive" to the crew and "tried to gain access to the cockpit."

Palmer told the BBC that claim was "absolute nonsense."

Speaking with the Mail, Sollom said that he knocked on the cockpit door to discuss the situation with the pilot but denied being aggressive.

In response to these denials, the airline's spokesperson told BI that it "stands by what it has said about this."

The incident highlights the amount of planning frequent flyers with allergies need to undertake, with only a handful of major airlines — including British Airways , Air Canada , Southwest , Delta , and JetBlue — making accommodations like this a standard part of their policies.

An advocate for people with serious allergies said SunExpress was at fault.

Nadim Ednan-Laperouse, a cofounder of the Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, said in a Facebook post that SunExpress should "immediately" revisit its policies.

"Food allergies are an illness not a lifestyle choice, and the experience of this family on board a plane is shocking and unacceptable," he said.

"Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident," he added.

It's true — SunExpress is far from the only airline that has refused to make an allergy announcement, which could be lifesaving.

Passengers of United and Lufthansa have described unpleasant encounters over the issue.

In August, one passenger with allergies resorted to spending $185 to buy her flight's entire peanut supply .

BBC weather presenter 'humiliated' after 'disgusting' flight treatment

Georgie palmer was travelling with her family when the incident occurred .

Megan Bull

BBC weather forecaster Georgie Palmer was left humiliated after she and her family were ordered off of a SunExpress flight from London Gatwick. Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Monday, the TV star opened up about the 'disgusting' incident.

Speaking with Charlotte Hawkins and Richard Madeley , Georgie, 49, reflected on her poor treatment, which occurred when she asked passengers to avoid eating peanuts during a flight to Dalman, Turkey.

A mum of two, Georgie was travelling with her husband Nick Sollom, 48, and daughters Rosie, 12, and Annie, 14, at the time. Explaining that her youngest, Rosie, has a peanut allergy, which can result in a "terrifying" case of anaphylaxis, the BBC star had attempted to get in contact with the airline pre-flight but found it "impossible" to get through.

Georgie Palmer on Good Morning Britain

Forced to ask staff if they could make a public announcement and notify passengers, Georgie was shocked when the Captain refused and took matters into her own hands. After politely asking nearby passengers to share the family's request, the Captain ordered Georgie and her family to leave the plane.

"The Captain was the only person on that plane who displayed aggressive behaviour. He was screaming and shouting at me from the cockpit," said Georgie. "He refused to come out and talk to us and give us a reasonable explanation, his behaviour was so appalling."

After exiting the plane, Georgie and her family managed to board an EasyJet flight to their Turkish holiday resort, but the incident has left Georgie determined to enact change in the airline industry. "There's a deep lack of clarity between airlines about policies about allergies," declared the 49-year-old.

Following the incident, SunExpress has responded to Georgie's claims, stating: "We take the safety of our passengers very seriously. Shortly after boarding our flight from London Gatwick, the passenger [Georgie's husband, Nick Sollom] raised a concern about one of his family group having a serious peanut allergy and requested an announcement to other passengers.

Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins on Good Morning Britain

"We refrain from making these kinds of announcements as, like many other airlines, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment on our flights, nor prevent other passengers from bringing food items containing allergens on board.

"Due to the insistent behaviour of the passenger to others on board that they should not consume nuts, the captain decided it would be safest if the family did not travel on our flight. When this was explained to the passenger, he did exhibit aggressive behaviour towards our crew members and tried to gain access to the cockpit.

Georgie Palmer on Good Morning Britain

"To ensure the safety of our crew and our passengers on board, we cannot tolerate aggressive and unruly behaviour on our flights."

During her GMB interview, Georgie was asked about the airline's statement, and called it "nonsense," adding that the 200 people on the plane, as well as the Gatwick flight crew, could attest that her husband was not aggressive.

Tri-Rail makes getting to Miami faster and easier

by Nick Viviani

A new Tri-Rail route is expected to shave a half-hour off the current travel time from West Palm Beach to MiamiCentral station. (WPEC)

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A new Tri-Rail express train promises to cut travel times for people heading to and from Miami.

The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) unveiled its new one-seat service between West Palm Beach and the MiamiCentral station. The agency claims the line will cut at least a half-hour of the typical commute time between the two cities.

"We are thrilled to unveil this new enhancement to our train service,” SFRTA Executive Director Dave Dech explained. “By offering a one-seat ride and reducing travel time, we aim to provide an enhanced commuting experience for our passengers and attract new riders to Tri-Rail."

When the service begins, the train will pull out of West Palm Beach at 6:30 a.m. and it is expected to arrive at its destination at 8:05 a.m. An evening rout will depart MiamiCentral at 5:35 p.m. To help reduce travel time, the SFRTA limited the number of mid-route stops the train makes to three:

  • The Boca Raton Station
  • The Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood Internation Airport Station at Dania Beach
  • The Metrorail Transfer State.

SFRTA highlighted the fact its latest line will offer a one-seat experience where passengers do not have to worry about switching to shuttle trains when going in and out of MiamiCentral.

The agency also hopes its revised schedule, which includes a later departure from the Miami Airport Station will make it easier for travelers and workers at Miami’s airport to utilize Tri-Rail.

The changes are scheduled to go into effect on July 1.

Gagarin cup (khl) finals:  atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd.

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that.

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role.

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

  • Atlant @ Ufa, Friday Apr 8 (3:00 PM CET/10:00 PM EST)
  • Atlant @ Ufa, Sunday Apr 10 (1:00 PM CET/8:00 AM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Tuesday Apr 12 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Thursday Apr 14 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)

Games 5-7 are as yet unscheduled, but every second day is the KHL standard, so expect Game 5 to be on Saturday, like an early start.
