Highlights from Louis Vuitton's cruise 2024 show

The fashion pack headed to Lake Maggiore to check out a mermaid-inspired collection

louis vuitton cruise 2024

Unfortunately, bad weather hindered the house's plans. The show had been set to take place in an outside setting on Isola Bella, a beautiful island in the middle of the lake. Instead, the show was staged inside on the mainland, where the likes of Emma Stone, Alicia Vikander and Cate Blanchett were in attendance.

Luckily though, models had walked the original location before the rain set in, so the collection was photographed on the intended catwalk, which was a clear inspiration for many of the pieces. It featured sculptural sleeves, aquatic colours and mermaid-inspired touches.

This show is the latest in a busy cruise season, which has seen Dior head to Mexico, Chanel to Los Angeles and Gucci to Seoul. Scroll down to see highlights from the Vuitton catwalk and front row, and see pictures of the beautiful Isola Bella.

Reflecting the progression from nautical to botanical, the silhouettes are adorned with silks and sequined embroidery, emulating scales and the movement of water. On dry land, prints flourish and lines become sculptural, while bags mark a post-modern tale, enveloped in the new Monogram Dune or in colorful variations of Épi leather.

Vogue  Singapore's incisive runway review for the Louis Vuitton cruise 2025 show

Show review in a line: The vigour of the city as seen through the lens of Louis Vuitton. Designers:   Nicolas Ghesquiére Location:  Park Güell, Barcelona

The vibe: When it comes to destination travel, Louis Vuitton’s ability to combine culture, art, and fashion with a sense of wonderment has seen its guests travelling across continents to far-flung destinations, from La Jolla in California to Isola Bella in the South of Italy . Today, it is Park Güell, the jewel of architecture nestled on the hills of El Carmel, Barcelona. With a running tabular seating arrangement sectioning the entire venue, the show opened to the trippy beats of Gary Numan’s ‘Music for Chameleons’ and ended with the sublime ‘Madame Butterfly’ by Malcolm McLaren.

The vision: One might ask: why Barcelona? When closely studying the late Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí’s works alongside the vision of Louis Vuitton’s creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière, one can’t help but notice the parallels between the two. The overlap meets at the axis of postmodernism and an otherworldly future. Tonight, Ghesquière delivered one of his strongest collections to date, seamlessly blending his signature boxy shoulders, razor-sharp tailoring, and cascading drapes with a smattering of traditional Spanish influences. Picture bolero hats, cut-out lace appliqués, matador jackets, and show-stopping flamenco-esque ruffles turned into capes. Let’s also remember the Gaudí effect, where mosaic prints found their way onto ankle-grazing jodhpurs and Pañosa-inspired silver dresses. And in true Ghesquière fashion, futuristic aviators and sculptural hardware for accessories, adorned with an iridescent wash on the lip, propelled the entire collection straight into the future.

What to shop from this collection: A designer with range has the ability to speak to a large spectrum of women, and at today’s show, the options were aplenty. For starters, the boxy suit dress with the white stiff collar (look 1) looked exceptionally modern with its minimalistic details, while the black asymmetric top with an attached flamenco cape (look 20) is capable of transitioning from frothy and romantic to dark and mysterious just by switching out the bottom to a stiffer material like leather. Ghesquière’s signature bauble skirt made its return this evening, now fuller and tiered (look 50)—instantly adding an eccentric touch to any given ensemble. Lastly, for those of you who are looking for that one item to switch up your wardrobe—look no further than the two-tone western-inspired boots with a wedged heel.

All Aboard the Most Extravagant Fashion Cruise

Chanel in Los Angeles, Dior in Mexico, Gucci in Seoul. Clothes are just a tiny part of the content.

louis vuitton on cruise ship

By Vanessa Friedman

In 1964, John Cheever published a short story called “The Swimmer” in which a seemingly happy suburbanite endeavors to swim his way home across New York’s Westchester County, by going from one backyard pool to the next in an odyssey that reveals the truth of his world.

It’s a scenario that sprang to mind during the last cruise (or resort) season, a monthlong series of extravaganzas in far-flung destinations that came to an end last week. It was not hard to imagine fashionistas hieing their way from show to show to show before finally returning home.

They could have started in Los Angeles with Chanel on May 9, moved on to Seoul with Gucci, on to Mexico City for Dior, then to northern Italy for Louis Vuitton (which had confusingly held a separate pre-fall show in Seoul just a few weeks before) and Alberta Ferretti, ending in Rio de Janeiro on June 1 with Carolina Herrera. Many of them may have been treated to their trips by the brands themselves (The New York Times does not accept press trips, so yours truly watches the shows on the computer), caravanning around the globe as if the pandemic was a speck in the rearview mirror.

In other words, despite all the lip service paid in recent seasons to reducing the excesses of fashion, this was one of the most mileage-intensive, blowout seasons on record, one that widened the gulf between the mega-brands that can orchestrate such spectacles and the rest of the industry.

Each brand, it seemed, was trying to one-up the others in offering “experiences” complete with dinners and famous guests dressed to the nines, selfie-ing away in extraordinary places: Jaden Smith, Eileen Gu and Emma Stone at Isola Bella, Italy, the Borromeo family’s private island (Vuitton); Naomi Watts, Alicia Keys and Riley Keough at the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, once the school where Frida Kahlo studied and met Diego Rivera and now a museum (Dior); Kristen Stewart, G-Dragon and Sofia Richie at the Paramount Studios lot (Chanel).

Rarely has it been so clear that when it comes to fashion, there is now so much more at stake than just clothes.

It’s About Content, Baby

The sheer fact that the press notes for Gucci’s fashion fantasia in the 14th-century Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul contained not just a description of the “dialogue between the house’s own heritage and the electrifying South Korean impact that influences it today” but also a 36-page document detailing the celebrities and “KOLs” (key opinion leaders) in attendance along with their Instagram, Twitter and TikTok followings, pretty much said it all.

The collection itself, a wetsuits-meets-the-bourgeoisie hybrid of neoprene, logos, suiting and chiffon created by an anonymous team because Gucci’s new designer, Sabato De Sarno had not yet arrived, was significantly less striking than the idea that more than 350 million IG followers were granted secondary access to the experience through the postings of the lucky few actually in attendance.

louis vuitton on cruise ship

In other words, the show allowed the brand to have its exclusivity — to flex its power, ability to access a historic site that had never before hosted a fashion show and taste — and advertise it widely too.

Not to mention court a market that is increasingly important, as K-pop takes over the world and China proves increasingly complicated politically. What better way to show respect, after all, than to go to the source?

That’s also partly why Wes Gordon decided to take his first-ever Carolina Herrera cruise show, a bouquet of polka dots, juicy florals and cha-cha frills, to Brazil, in a nod to both the brand’s Latin roots as well as the country’s voracious appetite for beauty and fragrance.

Also Cultural Cross-pollination

Of course, the destination show also brings other benefits — like inspiration. Designers have to produce so many collections, so often, that coming up with new ideas every season is pretty much a Sisyphean task. One advantage, then, of the traveling collection is that it comes with a built-in set of potential new ingredients based on paying “homage” to the culture and geography where a brand lands. This is both a necessary show of appreciation in the era of cultural appropriation, though one that can seem more expedient than long-lasting and authentic, and thematically useful.

Maria Grazia Chiuri of Dior, in particular, had made a virtue of the trend, positioning her cruise shows as platforms to showcase the work of local artisans and using her power to argue, at least for a season, that skills that have often been dismissed as “craft” deserve the same respect as couture. As a result, she has created a specific identity and reason for being for the Dior cruise collections that no other brand has quite managed.

This season was no different, with six different expert weavers and artisanal groups invited to contribute their work to classic Dior shapes like the Bar jacket; lacy petticoat shirtdresses; and filigree gowns (and to sit in the front row at the show). For a grand finale, designed by the Mexican artist and activist Elina Chauvet, there was a set of 20 white dresses — muslin toiles, taken from the brand’s archives — embroidered in blood red with hearts and words meant to represent the violence visited on women, their fragility and strength. It was jarring but also unexpectedly effective.

Another kind of conceptual liberation was on view in Nicolas Ghesquière’s Louis Vuitton show, which was weird in the best possible way: a bizarro amalgamation of sea creature silhouettes, sci-fi royalty and romance sparked perhaps by the island site but not limited by it. It made for a persuasive argument for getting designers, literally, out of their comfort zone. Free the imagination!

And Haute Merch

Not that it always works. For Virginie Viard of Chanel, a journey to Los Angeles led to what seemed like thoughts of roller-skating on the Venice boardwalk, “Barbie” (Margot Robbie was in attendance), aerobics and related clichés, including palm trees, playsuits and bubblelicious bouclé so saccharine it made the jaw clench. Ms. Viard can lean casually into the soignée — see one shimmery, simple tank top with a wisp of a black skirt — when she isn’t trying so blindingly hard to be hip, but this was one case when going further afield meant going astray.

Blink in surprise, however, at a particularly lurid aqua warm-up suit and simply cast your eyes somewhere else: to the bright lights and snack carts and movie stars and later a performance by Snoop Dogg. The show around the show was so fabulous, the fact that so much of the collection was more souvenir kitsch than chic was washed away in the rush of fame and fun.

And that, in the end, is the crux of this particular fashion phenomenon. That’s the memory dangled, and designed, for purchase. Like any piece of concert merch, these collections tap into the atavistic urge to own a sign that you were there.

Or there-ish.

Louis Vuitton's 2017 cruise collection at the Contemporary Art Museum of Niterói in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Nicolas Ghesquière is California dreaming: Louis Vuitton ‘s artistic director of women’s collections is heading to the Golden State on May 12 to unveil the French house’s cruise 2023 collection.

It’s the latest sign of a strong return to destination fashion shows as the coronavirus pandemic wanes, with Chanel, Emilio Pucci, Alexander McQueen and Gucci among the European brands planning to show outside the big fashion capitals in the coming months.

Vuitton said it would reveal the city and venue for its cruise display at a later date, while stressing that it “will continue its architectural journey of showcasing cruise collections at exclusive locations of exceptional design and renown around the world.”

Ghesquière typically selects an architectural marvel as a transporting backdrop. Cruise shows have been staged at the groovy Bob Hope Estate in Palm Springs, Calif., by John Lautner; Brazil’s MAC Niterói by Oscar Niemeyer; Kyoto’s Miho Museum by Ieoh Ming Pei; the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul de Vence by Josep Lluís Sert, and the TWA Flight Center at JFK Airport in New York by Eero Saarinen.

Like many brands adapting to restrictions amid waves of COVID-19, Vuitton has had to occasionally substitute digital solutions for live runway spectacles. Its cruise 2021 collection was shot at Ghesquière’s studio at LV headquarters in Paris, while the cruise 2022 show was livestreamed from a monumental, bridge-like installation in Paris by the late Israeli sculptor Dani Karavan known as Axe Majeur.

Cruise represents a key delivery for luxury brands as the collections have a long selling window straddling several seasons, and often dedicated campaigns and extra distribution via pop-up stores.

PHOTOS: Louis Vuitton reveals 2025 Cruise Collection

by JOSEPH WILSON Associated Press

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Louis Vuitton unveiled its latest fashion designs at Barcelona's Park Güell on Thursday, providing the clothes with drama to finally match Antoni Gaudí's architectural masterpiece.

Nicolas Ghesquiere's ambitions for the Parisian house's 2025 Cruise collection were unveiled before an A-list crowd, including actresses Ana de Armas, Jennifer Connelly and Saoirse Ronan.

Louis Vuitton usually unveils its ready-to-wear collections in the French capital, while choosing exotic and attention-grabbing locations for its destination cruise collections.

Where tourists tread daily in tank tops, shorts and flip flops, this UNESCO World Heritage Site for one night was home to cutting-edge garments that blended with its earthly tones that are at once organic and yet seemingly ethereal.

The models weaved their way through the 86 Doric columns that hold up a vaulted square in the center of the park that overlooks Barcelona and the Mediterranean Sea in the distance.

The show notes said Ghesquiere had been inspired by Gaudí's "legacy in constant mutation" and Spain's rich artistic heritage.

As if in homage to such opulent purity, the Maison's rigorous spirit embraces the country's passionate character," the notes read. "The fervor of its colors, its loyalty to tradition elevated into artistic expression, dark and light that never appear contradictory.

Dramatic silhouettes contrasted with the soft curves of Gaudí's organic structures, which were then reflected in the dresses that draped and folded into volumes that defied gravity.

And then there were flashes that delighted: a pair of equestrian boots that finished in a bunch of tassels.

The fashion show, however, was not celebrated by all. A group of a few hundred residents protested the event for what they said were the inconveniences it had caused, including reduced parking in the area. The protest also included animal right activists.

The group of protesters located a few streets down the hill from the park's outer wall could be heard beating drums, blowing air horns and setting off firecrackers before the show kicked off. Catalan police said they arrested one person for resisting violently to their decision to remove the protesters from a street to let traffic through.

Park Güell, pronounced "gu-ay" was started in 1900 as a planned upscale residential development designed by Gaudí, whose other works include the still-in-progress La Sagrada Familia Basilica. But a lack of buyers led to it being ditched in favor of a park that eventually passed into the hands of the Barcelona townhall.

It now receives 4.4 million visitors a year, mostly from the U.S., Britain, France, Germany and Italy, with Barcelona residents only representing 0.3% of the visitors, according to the park.

Cruise 2024 Show

Nicolas Ghesquière presented his Louis Vuitton Cruise 2024 Show live from Isola Bella on Lake Maggiore in Italy on Wednesday, May 24th.

Imagined as a tale of the extraordinary, the collection is open to a myriad of influences revealing a hybrid elegance of baroque opulence and neoprene. Like Isola Bella, a ship of greenery sailing between myth and reality, Nicolas Ghesquière finds the new balance of a contemporary femininity and ultra-romance in this paradoxical notion.

Creative director Nicolas Ghesquière might be the busiest man in fashion—since the start of the year, the designer has shown at Paris Fashion Week to celebrate his 10th year at helm of the house and recently debuted his pre-fall 2024 collection in Shanghai. The opening look of the latest show was a minidress rendered in a woven wool resembling natural fibers, with a crisp white lapel. What could be an otherwise average piece was taken firmly into 2024 with Oakley-esque reflective sunglasses, sharp-toed biker boots, and a flat-brimmed boater hat fit for Beyoncé.

louis vuitton womenswear cruise 2025

With this assortment, Ghesquière attempted to look at all facets of Spanish life, from the rich history of the matadors to the flamenco tradition. Swishing dresses made of delicate flowers stitched together recalled folk ensembles. Gaudí’s ever-inspiring work showed up in geometric prints on flouncy cotton pants and in the shiny sequins mirroring his signature mosaics that adorned minidresses with exaggerated sleeves. Textural elements added life and depth—think: fringed, plaid tweed on cut-out maxi dresses and gray lacquered straw hats. The tans, grays, and blacks juxtaposed well with the striking reds, greens, and blues often seen in the Catalan architect’s palette.

louis vuitton womenswear cruise 2025

Standout accessories were undoubtedly the Yeti-inspired shoes, which mirrored the fringed gloves Ghesquière sent down the runway for fall/winter 2024. The last sequence of looks were draped, gathered, and bold, cinched low or high with large black and white leather belts. The dramatic pleating on flamenco-style dresses appeared sensual without being costume-y. Instead, it was a great example of a designer riffing on history and making it his own. All in all, cruise 2025 was 100 percent Ghesquière with a sprinkle of Spain—totally modern yet rooted in classicism, not unlike Gaudí’s approach to creating pieces that last a lifetime.

Cruise 2023 Show

Nicolas Ghesquière presented his latest Louis Vuitton Cruise Collection at the Salk Institute in California on May 12th, 2022 at 03:45 am (Paris time).

The sun is the Artistic Director’s guest of honor in the Cruise 2023 collection, playing an active part in the evolution of this wardrobe where changes in temperature set a stylistic tempo. The unique light of the West Coast creates prisms across shimmering silhouettes, while a myriad of natural materials gives the illusion of a metallic palette.

I wanted the clothes to be like reflections, a point of contact between light and people.

Salk Institute

Continuing his tradition of staging his Cruise shows in some of the world’s most remarkable architectural structures, Nicolas Ghesquière chose the Salk Institute in California to present his Louis Vuitton collection. Designed by Louis Kahn in 1965, this Brutalist masterpiece is both a treasure of modern architecture and an internationally renowned research institute.

Louis vuitton unveils “game on”, a contemplative and playful 2021 cruise collection - lvmh.

With travel possibilities considerably limited, Nicolas Ghesquière presented his 2021 Cruise Collection for Louis Vuitton as an inner journey, a rediscovery of self. An exploration infused with playful freedom and games.

The opportunity proved both unexpected and providential. Confinement and the inability to travel allowed Louis Vuitton Women’s Collections Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière to rediscover his work, to take time to explore his own territory of style-driven emotions, memorable colors, enthralling cuts and curated wardrobe expertise. “I looked somewhere that has been calling out to me for a long time, somewhere I hadn’t taken the time to go back to. To uncover one inspiration after another. This is an exploration of my creative identity,” he explains.

Simply presented by a series of photos and videos on Instagram, the 2021 Cruise Collection, entitled “Game On”, springs from this exploration and a reconnection with his own elective affinities. The Creative Director frankly asserts that fashion is a game, so Game On, as the iconic Louis Vuitton Monogram canvas plays with the suits in a deck of cards. The Monogram flowers mingle with the four suits in a fantasy of hearts, spades, diamonds or clubs.

The multiple symbolism of a deck of cards evokes both playfulness and illusion, creating a direct link with Louis Vuitton’s heritage. Cards are the traveler’s loyal companion, entertainment that cultivates togetherness. All the Maison’s spheres of expertise play a role, from leather goods – with a discreet heart-shaped bag – to ready-to-wear, including card symbols as graphic motifs on dresses and Louis Vuitton flowers from top to bottom. The colorful explosion of shapes and motifs tease the trunkmaker’s fundamentals to better reinvent them.

Pre-owned handbags in shops onboard-were others aware?

By Shami , May 19, 2022 in Celebrity Cruises

Cool Cruiser

We were on the Equinox last month and were in the shop selling Louis Vuitton bags. There were Louis Vuitton references all around the shop. I happened to look at one particular bag and spoke with the salesperson on two separate occasions. The third time, my husband was there and also spoke with the salesperson. After about a 10 minute conversation, the salesperson mentioned that this bag over here was only used twice. This prompted my husband to ask if the bags were pre-owned. We had assumed that all of the bags were new. The salesperson said yes, all of the Louis Vuitton bags are pre-owned. There was a sign on one of the displays that said "What Goes Around Comes Around." It looked like just a sign that mentioned a truism and nothing else. It turns out that is the name of the company selling the handbags and they sell "Vintage" items (pre-owned). I am just wondering if my husband and I are the only ones that did not realize that the merchandise in this store was not new, or do others not realize this. Just wondering. When we spoke with the Hotel Director to voice our concern that it should be clear to potential buyers, he confirmed that they also sell some pre-owned Rolexes in the watch store - although not all are pre-owned like the Louis Vuitton bags. Just want to say that the pricing was quite high and so that was not a tip-off that the bags were pre-owned. Sorry that the post is so long - just felt I needed to put this out there.

Interesting.  I would suspect this in ports but not on a ship, certainly not Celebrity.

micruiser2002

I thought it was very obvious that they were pre-owned.  A lot of them you can see the wear and tear.  Not sure about the comment about seeing this in port and not on a ship, these are not fakes they are just pre-owned.

Louis Vitton items also hold their value better than almost any handbag out there, so it isn't surprising that the prices were still very high. LV announced a price increase across the board this spring for their items meaning the resale price is going up again as well. My wife is a full time reseller and she views LV products as an investment piece, they are only going to go up in value over time.

I think you are right to put it out there Shami.

Also, a lot of the pre-owned Rolexes onboard ships have ‘after-market’ parts on them which means that Rolex themselves will not touch them. It devalues the Rolex and means that the owner can never have a Rolex accredited watchmaker work on their watch! It is only Rolex accredited watchmakers that have the correct tools and equipment and access to original parts for those watches. I don’t think many potential buyer realise that. It makes me feel very uneasy about this practice as these watches are very expensive and although buyers may me attracted by the diamonds added to the dials or bezels, these will actually devalue the purchase.

I was aware that the Gucci bags were pre-owned, however the LVs were so expensive I thought they were new.

Thanks for your replies to my comments. I am not against their right to sell pre-owned merchandise, I just feel it should be apparent the minute you walk in the store, to the average consumer.

With the talk of it being an investment with prices going up all the time - makes me wonder if I shouldn't be using my one and only LV bag on a daily basis.

Covepointcruiser

I would keep your one and only LV bag for occasional use so it will retain its value.   There are only a few stores selling  new LV bags.   You can buy them at LV stores, at Saks and Neimans.   Don’t know about the other stores.    You can’t get the new ones by ordering on line, you have to go to the store to see them and select what you want.   New bags are never sold at secondary sources.    If you are buying them anywhere else you are buying fake ( if they are inexpensive) or used if they are expensive.

We do not buy used anything but seems to be a trend,..even at Walmart!

Coach store on Oasis had very old stock..hardly worth stopping in..esp after walking  in the rain in the park area.

I was amazed at the prices of LV bags on Edge in October. I had a large amount of OBC and bought a Coach bag. After I got home I saw a post about the LV bags being used and I was doubly amazed.

For example my wife recently purchased a used LV bag from a reputable source online (it looks brand new, you would never be able to tell it was used), it was a 1 year limited run bag either last year or the year before so you can't find it new anymore. It was somewhere around $2000 new, and she just payed $2400 for it used, that is how much the value has already increased.

They also sell used Rolex watches.

OMG! Use the bag. Enjoy the bag. You can't take your $$ with you. If you bought the bag b/c it suits your lifestyle and Not just as some sort of social status piece, use and enjoy it!  And... I guess, even if you did buy it as social status piece, you should use and enjoy it, as how would people know how rich, cool and trendy you are if you left the bag at home in a closet so it could "appreciate"?!?

And this is why I can't wait to go to Paris in the fall.  Prices there are so much cheaper than here.  Plus fun shopping experience.

Thank you for the information. I am usually not a ‘posh’ handbag person, when I buy a bag it is usually to stuff things in and to tote around. However, with lots of OBC next cruise I might have decided it was time to treat myself.

Like you I don’t have an issue with pre owned but I would want to know. Also as a naive purchaser I would have no idea if during the bags ‘make over’ pre resale if a catch had been swapped, a handle repaired…things that could effect its resale value.

EDGE  had a great variety of beautuful bags....some very pricey, one if a kind, all new.  I bought  a clutch and handbag on my EDGE cruises,  but I buy what catches my eye in my price range..not the label.

Overall, shops on EDGE were hi priced..even tee shirts.

The only place you can buy a real new LV bag is directly from LV. There are no other authorized places. There is a second market for pre-owned Louis Vuitton that is authorized . Obviously that is what is on the ship. There is absolutely no problem with these bags because they have to be authenticated to be sold as such.

Now there are lots of “LV” bags for sale online, etc. most are fake.  If you want a real LV either buy it from LV, or from an authorized reseller. I have one that I bought 12 years ago from LV direct, and I have one from the 80’s that came from an authorized reseller in New York. As far as Coach bags those are just a cheap bag that you can buy at any outlet mall.

Fly and Sail

I would have imagined it. Is there any seller other than LV that is authorized to sell original LV items in the first place?

They also sell used and restored Rolex watches but the prices of those aren't cheap and the bigger problem is that they use non-Rolex parts to fix them up. I tried a Rolex Datejust last time and it wasn't bad but at a price point of $6,600 with some non-genuine parts such as the crystal, no papers except those of the restoration company... hard pass!

LOL-- Why else would anyone spend that kind of money on a bag ? The odds are you will never sell it because the value will keep  going up----- ( until you try to sell it ?? ).

Let's say the exact bag had a " designer "  name on it that was not recognizable ( not promoted or marketed ), wouldn't it still be as good ?

( I try to explain that to " you know who " --- but, not a chance ) !!

LOL-- And, about the Rolex watches they sell on the Islands---- They are " real " . The Salesman told me and offered me a " special price " because he remembered me from a previous cruise . ( I must have a twin brother because we were never there before ).

Oh well, It's all part of the " fun " of cruising.

Why would anyone spend that kind of money on a bag? To answer your question it is the same as owning fine jewelry. You have a few good things that you use or wear all the time and will wear forever or in the case of a bag the same. Good things never go out of style..they are timeless. That is why. I have 3 expensive bags..that’s it, and over the course of years have spent less money than I would have buying an assortment of cheap bags. To each his own. It is just like good jewelry, you have it, you wear it, and enjoy it forever.

I have seen the disclaimer about the watches and I am sure others have also.   When I see someone looking at them I will warn them about not being able to get them serviced at a Authorized Rolex  Service Center.    I have heard that if you send the watch to one they will destroy it and not return it.   Don’t know how true it is.

The prices on those watches aren’t that great of a bargain but if someone really wants one and doesn’t care about the watch being original they can always have it serviced by some watch repair service center.  One place is Universal Watch that is located in Birmingham MI.   They service watches and also have a interest if not own  the watch brand Benz.

I knew they were pre-owned.   The prices were less than a brand new bag.  I had already heard of the company that sells them.   They are a good deal.  Pre-owned vintage Louies don’t usually lose their value unless in bad shape.

Many excellent fakes are being sold to unsuspecting people as being the real deal. Often see adds with prices that seem low. If it is too good to be true, it’s a fake.  It will still be a well made bag. It will look good, wear well, and cost less money than an authorized genuine bag.  It will likely look identical to a real bag. Other than being made to look like an LV bag, it will fool most people.  Copies in many places are outlawed. In France, counterfeiting LV bags is a punishable crime.

I've been on more than 50 cruises. Here are the 9 things I never buy on board.

  • As an avid cruiser, I splurge on onboard luxuries like fine dining, spa services, and cocktails.
  • However, I try to plan where to spend my money ahead of time to avoid upcharges .
  • Some balconies, unlimited drink packages, and souvenirs aren't worth the extra cost.

Balcony staterooms come with too many caveats to justify the higher price, so I opt for staterooms with portholes instead.

louis vuitton on cruise ship

It may be a divisive opinion, but I don't think balcony rooms  are worth the extra money.

I've found that balcony seating is rarely as spacious as the lounge chairs elsewhere on the ship. If your party is larger than two people, you probably won't have enough room for everyone to comfortably enjoy the space together.

But the lack of space is just one of my gripes with balcony staterooms.

A significant amount of light can intrude into your room in the morning, and at times, cigarette smoke and noise from surrounding balconies can feel inescapable. Plus, leaving the balcony door open can lead to a wind tunnel in your stateroom.

To me, the high cost of these accommodations doesn't seem worth it. Save your money and book a stateroom with a sizeable porthole instead. This accommodation offers all the sightseeing you need, with a lot more privacy.

Besides, the ship has plenty to explore, so get out of your room and enjoy everything your cruise has to offer.

Trying to break even on an all-inclusive drink package feels like a Herculean feat.

louis vuitton on cruise ship

Many cruise lines offer an all-inclusive drink package that allows passengers to order unlimited beverages throughout their voyage (with a few small caveats).

These packages vary by cruise line, but they're usually tiered, with the lowest-cost option offering fountain sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages. The most expensive option typically includes these drinks plus other alcoholic concoctions.

Though I understand the appeal of ordering prepaid beverages throughout your trip, I did the math and realized that it's harder to break even than I expected.

Some of the lowest sale prices for Deluxe Beverage Packages I've seen is about $73 a person a day plus gratuities, which are automatically added on top of this price.

I'd probably need to purchase six expensive alcoholic drinks almost every day on my cruise, including port days, to see a return on my investment.

Although drinking this much isn't an impossible feat, I'll save money and spend less time feeling hungover if I pay for drinks à la carte.

Specialty cups may look cute, but they're impractical and often go unused in everyday life.

louis vuitton on cruise ship

Before investing in a branded hurricane glass, ask yourself whether you'll actually use it at home or whether it'll gather dust in the back of a cabinet.

For me, it's the latter.

After learning the hard way, I've gotten into the habit of asking myself this question before pulling out my wallet for any vacation purchases.

Hydration is essential, but avoid overpaying for plastic water bottles.

louis vuitton on cruise ship

Staying hydrated is important, especially if you've been making the most of your alcoholic drink package during a warm-weather cruise . But the cost of buying bottled water on the ship can quickly add up.

Instead, I save money by bringing a refillable jug to use at water stations throughout the ship. In addition to being a more economical option, it's also more environmentally friendly than drinking out of a plastic bottle.

If you're devoted to disposable bottles, many cruise lines allow passengers to bring a case of water aboard on the first day of their trip, which can save them a lot of hard-earned money.

Don't pay for underwhelming bar food when there are so many all-you-can-eat options.

louis vuitton on cruise ship

A smorgasbord of dining options is usually included in the price of a cruise. Between quick-service eateries, buffets, and traditional sit-down restaurants, there's no shortage of food onboard.

Although I'm willing to pay a bit more for upscale dining at the ships' signature steakhouses and celebrity chef-inspired bistros , you won't find me munching on soggy nachos and tasteless tater tots that cost a premium at many of the onboard bars.

These types of snacks are generally relatively low in price, which makes it tempting to splurge on them after a few cocktails. However, chances are that you'll find more fulfilling, complimentary options elsewhere on the ship.

Skip the unnecessary extra charges on items you can easily get on land, where you probably don't have access to unlimited, free food.

Avoid making any big spur-of-the-moment purchases on the ship.

louis vuitton on cruise ship

When you step inside a cruise boutique, you may find luxury items — like pre-owned Rolex watches, gemstones, and vintage Louis Vuitton bags — among other enticing jewelry and accessories.

I steer clear of them all.

It's nearly impossible to check the quality and value of these luxury items when you're in the middle of the ocean and don't have a strong internet connection.

If buyer's remorse kicks in after your trip , you can't head back on board to return your items. So save any big-ticket purchases for a reputable dealer back home, where you can easily research items' market value before buying them.

Duty-free alcohol and perfume are usually not that great of a deal.

louis vuitton on cruise ship

I've been hard-pressed to find any real deals at onboard shops.

Although you can buy some duty-free items, such as perfume, for less than their retail prices, I've usually found similar sales when I'm back on land.

Unless I spy a rare liquor that's not sold where I live, carrying home an easy-to-break bottle of booze is always more trouble than it's worth.

Many photo packages fail to capture authentic moments with your loved ones.

louis vuitton on cruise ship

Photos are the best vacation souvenir. They take up no space, are highly personal, and won't end up in a donation bin when you clean out your storage closet.

Perhaps the best thing about pictures is that they're completely free, which is the reason I never waste my valuable vacation time queued up for the ship photographer. I've learned that the cruise ship's staged photos in front of a fake-looking backdrop of the ocean are not the best option.

Instead, hire a professional photographer for high-quality family portraits, or use a camera or smartphone to snap your own action shots of your loved ones enjoying their time on the ship.

Most onboard internet packages offer slow speeds at hefty prices.

louis vuitton on cruise ship

One of the best things about being on a cruise ship is that I'm forced to disconnect, not just because I'm on vacation, but also because there's next to no internet connection  in the middle of the ocean.

It can be hard to let go, and it isn't always realistic to be cut off from land for days on end. But unless I absolutely need Wi-Fi, I'll never fork over my cash for low-grade internet on the ship.

Though this service is starting to improve on many cruises, I've still found the internet to be rather spotty and expensive.

If you plan to work remotely from a cruise, allow for a lot of flexibility in your schedule and research places in port where you can find reliable WiFi.
