The PDC European Tour

The european tour.

The PDC European Tour (Euro Tour) has been one of the main reason for the growth in darts across mainland Europe. The events are bigger than Pro Tours, but not the same size as TV events. Players have said the Euro Tour has helped them repair for main TV events.

The European Tour is a series of darts tournaments organised across Europe annually by the PDC. The Euro Tour events see some of the top players in the PDC Order of Merit compete against players that have qualified through various regional tournaments.

There has been a steady increase in the number of events that have taken place in the Euro Tour each year, which had originally started with just five events in 2012. This then increased to eight in 2013 and 2014, nine in 2015, 10 in 2016, 12 in 2017 and has stood at 13 European Tour events from 2018 onwards.

The European Tour events are slightly different to the ones that we see on the Pro Tour as they are all played out on one board in front of an audience. While the European Tour events are not televised, fans are able to stream the events onto their devices via the PDC’s subscription service, which broadcasts all of the European Tour events live.

European Tour Tournaments

The following tournaments make up the current annual European Tour schedule for competing players:

  • Austrian Darts Open
  • German Darts Championship
  • European Darts Open
  • Dutch Darts Masters
  • Gibraltar Darts Trophy
  • European Darts Grand Prix
  • International Darts Open
  • European Darts Matchplay
  • German Darts Open
  • German Darts Grand Prix
  • Czech Darts Open
  • Belgian Darts Championship
  • Hungarian Darts Trophy

The following tournaments were previous events in the EuroTour schedule that are no longer part of the Euro Tour:

  • German Darts Masters
  • European Darts Trophy
  • Dutch Darts Championship
  • Danish Darts Open
  • Austrian Darts Championship

Prize Money

Like in all other PDC events over recent times, prize money has increased pretty significantly in the Euro Tour events. At the opening of the Euro Tour in 2012, there was a total prize pot of £82,100 per event, with the winner claiming a £15,000 share of the money. But the overall prize pot has since increased to £140,000 per event, while European Tour event winners will walk away with £25,000. The entire £140,000 prize pot is now divided as follows:

  • Winner – £25,000
  • Runner-Up – £10,000
  • Semi-Finalist – £6,500
  • Quarter-Finalist – £5,000
  • Last 16 – £3,000
  • Last 32 – £2,000
  • Last 48 – £1,000

Player Performances

Since being introduced in 2012, no player has won more Euro Tour events than Michael van Gerwen, who has an extremely impressive 32 tournament victories to his name. Those 32 wins have come from 40 finals appearances, with there being just one other player that has made double figure finals appearances at European Tour events.

Peter Wright is that player, having made it to 14 Euro Tour event finals and has won six of them. Michael Smith and Phil Taylor are next on the list with four wins apiece on the European Tour, while Mensur Sujlovic, Ian White and Gerwyn Price all have three Euro Tour victories on their resume. Dave Chisnall, Kim Huybrechts and James Wade are the only other players to have multiple European Tour wins in their career.

2018 World Darts Championship winner Rob Cross has the unwanted record of featuring in the most Euro Tour finals without having a victory to his name. Cross has made it to the final of four Euro Tour events to date, but has come out on the losing side in each of them.

Gary Anderson defeated Ross Smith to lift the 2024 European Darts Grand Prix, his first title on the European Tour in over a decade

Gary Anderson claimed his first PDC European Tour title in over a decade after beating Ross Smith 8-6 to win the NEO.bet European Darts Grand Prix in Germany.

Ref Watch, Nottingham Forest

The 53-year-old produced a 121 finish to take a 7-6 lead and then wrapped up victory in the next leg after Smith - who was looking to land his first European Tour trophy - squandered seven darts to take the match to a decider.

Anderson had come through a last-leg shootout earlier in the day to beat Josh Rock 6-5 in the quarter-finals and then knocked out defending champion Rob Cross 7-5 in the semis.

Prize money breakdown European Darts Grand Prix 2024 with £175,000 on offer

From Friday, April 19, to Sunday, April 21, the PDC will be in Sindelfingen for the latest stop on the European Tour , the European Darts Grand Prix 2024. The fourth Euro Tour tournament of the season will see a total of £175,000 in prize money distributed.

For a number of players however, that prize money will only be received in their bank accounts and not added to their tally on the PDC Order of Merit. Indeed, this year 32 players will be automatically invited to the Euro Tours.

Follow the European Darts Grand Prix 2024 via our LIVE SCORE!

TV GUIDE: Here's how to watch 2024 European Darts Grand Prix live

First, the top-16 of the Pro Tour Order of Merit will receive an invitation. They have a bye in the first round and enter from the second round. And, in a change starting this season, the top-16 of the world rankings also receive an invitation. They do have to start from the first round. For both lots of players, however, they must win their opening match at the European Darts Grand Prix in order for the prize money to count toward the world ranking.

The remaining sixteen participants in Sindelfingen are winners from the various qualifying tournaments. Regardless of the result these players achieve, they will get the prize money added to the ranking. In any case, they will receive 1250 pounds for a first-round exit.

Schedule Friday afternoon at European Darts Grand Prix 2024 including Cullen, Gurney and Scott Williams

Upon reaching the second round, the prize money rises to 2,500 pounds. So the top-16 on the seedings list will get this amount anyway, but they still have to win a match to get it added to the world rankings.

Making it to the third round is good for £4,000, while quarter-finalists go home with £6,000 guaranteed. Semi-finalists will get at least £8,500 before the rewards go into five figures for reaching the final.

For the runner-up at the European Darts Grand Prix, a sum of 12,000 pounds awaits. The winner of this Euro Tour tournament goes home with £30,000.

Five Things to Know: European Open

The DP World Tour continues its European Swing this week with the first of two visits to Germany for the European Open at Green Eagle Golf Courses. Here are your five things to know.

European Open-2155034316

McKibbin returns to scene of maiden win

Tom McKibbin held off home favourites Maximilian Kieffer and Marcel Siem to claim his maiden DP World Tour title in his rookie season at last year’s edition.

The Northern Irishman, who graduated from the 2022 European Challenge Tour, carded a closing three-under-par 70 at Green Eagle Golf Courses to win by two shots and join Darren Clarke as only the second Northern Irish winner of this event.

Victory also saw him become the youngest winner from the island of Ireland on the DP World Tour since McIlroy, while he was also the fifth first-time winner in the last six stagings.

Having begun his debut campaign on the DP World Tour with three consecutive top 20s, his success in Germany proved instrumental in him qualifying for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

McKibbin returns to Hamburg in excellent form, with three top tens already so far this season and on the back of securing his maiden Major Championship by coming through U.S. Open Final Qualifying.

McKibbin trophy

Inside the field

Following the start of last week’s Soudal Open in Belgium, the European Open marks the second of six counting events on the European Swing and welcomes a host of winners from this season’s Race to Dubai.

Japanese pair Yuto Katsuragawa and Keita Nakajima, who played at the US PGA Championship earlier this month, are making their first appearances of the season in Europe.

Joining them among other DP World Tour winners so far this season is Sweden’s Jesper Svensson, who won in Singapore and made the cut on his Major debut at Valhalla Golf Club.

There is also the presence of a Major champion in Danny Willett, who exceeded expectations to make his comeback following shoulder surgery at The Masters last month.

Ronald Rugumayo, who made headlines by becoming the first Ugandan golfer to make the cut on the DP World Tour in Kenya earlier this year, takes his place in the field as an invite.

Albeit without a win, Rasmus Højgaard is aiming to build on what has been a strong start to his own campaign, while fellow Dane Rasmus Neergard-Petersen aims to bring his stellar form on the Challenge Tour over to the DP World Tour.

Kjeldsen hits the 700 mark

Søren Kjeldsen will join a very exclusive club when he tees it up for the 700th time on the DP World Tour this week.

The Dane, who turned 49 earlier this month, reaches the milestone number after a distinguished career spanning four decades.

David Howell, Miguel Angel Jiménez and Sam Torrance are the only other three players to have played 700 or more DP World Tour events, highlighting the longevity Kjeldsen continues to enjoy.

After turning professional in 1995, he won his maiden title in the paid ranks on the Challenge Tour in 1997 as he earned promotion to the DP World Tour.

He has since won titles in Scotland, twice in Spain, with the most recent of his victories coming in Ireland in 2015.

Kjeldsen has competed at all four Majors, recording top tens in three of the four, played on the PGA TOUR with a full card and won the World Cup of Golf with Thorbjørn Olesen in 2016.

From a home golf simulator to the DP World Tour

Following last year’s innovative agreement between the European Tour group and Trackman, this week sees one golfer showcase his skills on the course rather than virtually.

Through the NEXT Golf Tour, a professional golf tour for women and men played on Trackman simulators, Jordan Weber won their Order of Merit to receive invites to play on the DP World Tour and Challenge Tour in 2024.

The American will tee it up as a professional in Europe for the first time this week before taking his place in the field at three consecutive events on the Challenge Tour in August – the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge supported by The R&A, Vierumaki Finnish Challenge and the Indoor Golf Group Challenge in Sweden.

More than a decade after walking away from the game due to the yips, Weber returned to the sport after setting up a golf simulator business with his brother-in-law and now sets the scene for the latest chapter in his incredible story.

“This is a huge opportunity for me, but at the same time I know that it’s a long shot,” he said. “If I play well, maybe it could lead to more.”

High hopes for home winner at tough venue

After four second places in the past five editions, Germany is hoping to crown its first German winner of the prestigious tournament since Bernhard Langer in 1995.

Back then the event was held in Ireland, with this week marking the seventh occasion Green Eagle Golf Courses has played host in Northern Germany.

Yannik Paul heads a strong German contingent aiming to thrill the home crowds, with fellow DP World Tour winners Kieffer, Siem and Nick Bachem among 12 home hopes teeing it up in familiar surroundings.

Regarded as one of the toughest assignments on the DP World Tour, the North Course at Green Eagle Golf Courses is the longest, measuring 7,882 yards.

It features a remarkable five par fives that are more than 600 yards in distance, with the winning score in each of the last three editions being nine under par or less.
