Of course, we will see emblematic and monumental monuments of the city, such as the Royal Galleries, the Brussels Stock Exchange, both buildings from the 19th century, or the Cathedral of San Miguel y Gúdula, which will impress us with its resemblance to another cathedral of a nearby town. We will end our tour of the most monumental Brussels in one of the most photographed places in the city, the Mount of Arts, a spectacular panoramic view of the city of Brussels. And we hope that after our tour you can go have a beer at any of its hundreds of breweries or taste some chocolates or chips.

From the heart of trade to the centre of politics

After the war, Brussels underwent extensive modernisation and is now home of many international institutions, making it one of the most important cities in Europe. We lead you through the winding streets and discover the sites of the beginnings of the city over 1,500 years ago.

This is honestly something I would recommend to everyone visiting Brussels for the first time. Frazer the Scot, was an absolute peach. First of all he is extremely knowledgeable and noticeably passionate and interested in everything he has to say about Brussels and its history. Overall he made a 3-hour walking tour very interactive, fun, informative and it went by so quickly that even after going through most of the must sees of Brussels, we still had loads of time to check out all the great food tips he gave us during the walk! 10/10 would recommend it and do it again!

We had the lovely Adrian as our tour guide. He was incredibly informative about the beautiful city of Brussels and even recommended the best places to get waffles and fries. He was very funny too, so it was never awkward with him. He made sure we were all okay and were having a good time on the tour. Would 100% recommend to others!

Our guide was super fun, the kind of sense of humour that I really enjoy and very knowledgeable about his country. Everybody enjoyed his enthusiasm and we learnt so much from him. We visited a lot of places and took a break to grab a beer at a bar. In the end, we got together with some other people and went for dinner. Such a good time. Should definitely check this walking tour out.

Me and my parents did a tour with Peter and I would absolutely recommend it: It was great, informative, very fun and never boring. I definitely feel like we've learned important things about the city, the country and its culture. We've tried some of Peter's tips regarding beer and waffles and we are glad we did, we're some happy clams!

We thoroughly enjoyed the free walking tour with Peter. He was very enthusiastic and was a great storyteller. I wish we had more time to do another tour with him.

We (family with 2 teenagers) booked a tour and had Peter as our guide. He is so funny and enthusiastic. We are Dutch but the children understood everything. Highly recommended.

Most free tours in the area focus on the history of Brussels , providing stops at several notable sites and landmarks.

You can also go on an outing which gives you an alternative perspective of the city , going into the lower sectors for a look at some of the lesser-known buildings, structures, streets, and more.

Tour Calendar

Some tours focus on the architectural history of the city , giving guests a greater understanding of how and why certain structures were built with a specific style in mind.

There are also night tours that will give you a look at what some of the most notable landmarks look like after dark.

While on these outings, you can expect to visit some of the following sites:

  • Hotel Otlet
  • Hotel Tassel
  • Hotel Ciamberlani
  • The Beukman House
  • Hotel Goblet d’Alviella
  • Van Rysselberghe House

BRUSSELS NIGHT TOURS

If you want to experience this historic city after dark, there is at least one company offering a pay-what-you-wish walking tour of Brussels at night.

This isn't a common service, so if you're interested in seeing what all the historic sites look like when the sun goes down, you might want to consider taking this tour.

Here are a few of the sites you can expect to see on this outing:

  • Royal Galleries
  • Jeanneke Pis
  • Church of San Nicolas
  • Church of Notre Dame de Bon Secours
  • Plaza de las Fontaines
  • St. Catherine's Church
  • Zinneke Pis

Find out what makes all these landmarks shine after dark by taking a pay-what-you-wish Brussels night walking tour.

In addition to their introductory tour of Brussels, this company also offers a tour at night which actually covers a lot of locations that aren't included on their other outings.

Some of the stops on this journey could almost fit better in an alternative tour, with examples like the Puppet Theater and a neighbourhood known for its LGBTQ community which has several beautiful murals to see.

This tour is around 2 hours long and it's available in Spanish on Thursday and Friday at 18:00 (6 pm).

NOTE: The English tour is not currently available.

BRUSSELS FOOD TOURS

Although there aren’t any pay-what-you-wish food tours currently available in this city, there are a few self-guided options you may want to consider.

These guides tend to focus on the two most popular dishes in Belgium – chocolate and beer.

That said, there are at least two self-guided food tours that provide details about great restaurants and full meals you should try before leaving Brussels.

We’ll also include a few paid options just in case you want a fully guided service that will go into greater detail.

GPS My City

Whether you’re looking for the best beer in Brussels or you want to satisfy your sweet tooth with some authentic Belgian chocolate, there are a few different self-guided tours provided by this service that you may want to use to find some of the most impressive dishes in the city.

In addition to the sweets and the booze, there are also at least two guides that include coverage of more traditional meal items such as crepes, burgers, deli foods, frites, and of course Belgian waffles!

  • Brussels Beer Tour
  • Chocolate Tour in Brussels
  • Brussels Food Tour
  • Eating & Drinking Your Way Through Brussels

These tours are available on the GPS My City app which you can download onto your smartphone using iTunes or Android.

Their GPS-enabled map will help you locate each of the stops on your self-guided food tour.

Additional Food Tours

If you want some help from a professional guide, there are several paid food tours you can take in Brussels which cover a variety of different foods. These outings typically cost anywhere from €50 to €100.

The advantage of these tours is that they provide the perspective of a local, and in some cases, they’re even private outings with small group sizes.

Although it’s nice to have control over how and when you take a food tour, nothing beats the advice of a local on the best beer and eats in the city.

Check this list of paid Brussels food tours to find an outing that fits your schedule and covers the subjects which interest you.

Definitely going to judge all future tours against this one. Pascal was so great and you could feel his love for the city in the tour. We had so much fun with this tour and definitely walked away feeling like we’d gotten the best of Brugge.

We had a wonderful tour with Edward! He was so knowledgeable and friendly and we really got to know the city from a local perspective.

We had a great walking tour with Ray. It was very informative and hit all the must see spots. Ray was a super knowledgeable and fun guy to walk with. I would definitely recommend this to anyone traveling to Bruges.

With heavy rain: we make sure everyone is properly dressed for bad weather or divert into buildings.

Our tour with Augustin was great. He was a tour guide with a lot knowledge and tips to share. He was very welcoming, making everyone in the family (teens and adults) really welcomed. We would greatly recommend this tour to everyone.

Julie P. (verified owner) – 25/06/2023

Augustin is dedicated to what he is doing. He is passionate about what he is telling. He interacts with the people in the group. At least when the group is small. We were the 5 of us. And it was really natural, fluide, cosy and chill. I am from Brussels and I can tell you that Augustin can make You like and enjoy Brussels. Proud to have a guide from Argentina speaking in that way about my beloved hometown. Thank you !

Tour description

Although this is a general tour, and you`ll see the same old beautiful buildings that everyone else are showing in guided tours, we try to make things differently. We do not focus on years, people, architects, styles... because we know that, by the end of the tour, most travelers won`t remember those. We try to tell you the story of Bucharest.  How the city appeared when Dracula made a palace here. How oriental it looked, with its Greek and Turkish influences. How the old town became a merchant`s place, and how the old inns and and monasteries were replaced by the beautiful French architecture of the late 1800s and first half of the 1900s. How the communists wanted to destroy the old beautiful buildings of the past. This is what you`ll remember, the general lines in which this city developed and got to be as it is today. Our guides put a lot of effort into making this tour as great as it is. The recommended tip for their effort is 20 euros/person. The tour starts at 10.00.  Contact us on WhatsApp, using our phone number, to receive a free PDF with useful information about Bucharest (where and what to eat, where to walk, what to visit etc.).

What will we visit on this tour?

In front of Saint Anton's Church and the Old Palace of Dracula (Palatul Voievodal Curtea Veche), in the Old Town of Bucharest. I will have a big visible logo saying `While in Bucharest Walking Tours`. Also, a big hat, the church behind me, and some ruins to my left side.

Some of the oldest streets in Bucharest, and the most iconic landmarks on them.

Old historical inn with an interesting story.

First beer serving restaurant in town.

One of the most beautiful banks in the old Town, and the amazing stories behind it.

Dana was an excellent guide and we had a superb time on the walking tour. She was very knowledgeable and made our tour very interesting

The tour was amaizing with a lot of interesting information . We learned so much. She was very helpful.

Fantastic tour, Dana does a great job to pack so much into 3 hours. She was very succinct and had such a broad knowledge across Romania ancient and modern history. I would highly recommend this tour. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, it was fascinating.
