What’s top of your list when you are planning to sail off on your cruise? When going on a cruise, there is a lot to plan before the embarkation date, including what to take with you and how to get to the port. But, have you thought of where you will park and how you will get from the parking facility to your cruise ship’s port? If you haven’t then that is something you should surely add to your list of things to do for cruise departure day.

One of the most popular and safest methods of getting to your cruise ship is to park in a secure facility and then take another vehicle to the port. Some parking facilities do not offer transportation and you will then have the hassle of securing a taxi service or taking public transportation to get you to the port on time. And then there is the other hassle of finding the right terminal.

However, if you choose a parking facility that includes shuttle service, this removes those hassles. You essentially kill two birds with one stone – you get parking for the duration of your cruise, and transportation to and from your cruise departure terminal.

Guide to Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal Parking

The traveler's guide to port canaveral cruise terminal parking.

Port Canaveral is a popular spot. Cape Canaveral is home to the Kennedy Space Center and beautiful beaches, and it takes second place in the list of busiest cruise ports .

Did you know? After the Port of Miami, we see more cruise passengers than anywhere else in the whole world ( over 4 million every year )!

But being one of the busiest ports also means that we need some place to put all of those traveling cars throughout the year.

That’s where our local Port Canaveral cruise parking facilities come in.

At Port Canaveral Parking , we offer the best in  off-site  parking for parties hoping to save while they sail. With secure parking and complimentary shuttles for your cruise vacation, it’s easy to save money while getting the best  off-site  cruise parking.

But what about on-site options ? Today we’re going to be going over the pros and cons of parking at the cruise ship terminal in our guide to on-site parking at Port Canaveral.

Navigating Port Canaveral Cruise Terminals

Our six cruise terminals are 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, and 10. Cruise Terminal A is home to terminals 5, 6, 8, and 10, while 1 and 3 are located in Cruise Terminal B . The split can be a little confusing for travelers, especially if you can’t remember where the cruise lines are docking at.

Cruise Terminal B is where you can also go for a bite to eat, to see the port at the Exploration Tower, or check out CT-3, our brand-new multi-million dollar spot for the largest ships. Terminal A is less exciting, but it hosts more ships as well as the cargo piers.

Official Port Canaveral Parking

Every cruise terminal has it’s own official parking facility (although some terminals share parking spots). The port runs these locations, which include covered garage parking as well as uncovered parking lots located near the terminal entrance.

The parking spots are first-come, first-served , meaning there’s no reservations and no pre-pay. You can also splurge and pay a little extra for “preferred parking”, which some terminals offer for those who want to park even closer to the ship.

While convenient, we do have some bad news: it’s $17.00 per day for the basic parking at the port. That means that for a four-night cruise, you’ll be paying $85 in parking fees alone.

Here’s a short breakdown of the pros and cons of on-site port parking.

Pros of parking at the ship

  • Spots are right at the ship . It’s true, you wouldn’t be able to park closer to the ship unless they let you bring your car on the boat.
  • Many say it’s more convenient. When you embark and disembark, you never have to worry about getting to your car.
  • It’s pretty easy. Unlike other parking facilities, you only get one option. You won’t have to choose between locations. At the port, you get what you get.
  • The port terminals offer free cruise parking for vehicles that need parking options for disabled passengers with special equipment, for those with a Florida Toll Exemption Permit, and for those who have a Florida Disabled Veteran license plate. However, this is the only free parking option from the Canaveral Port Authority.

Cons of Parking at the Cruise Port

  • Being next to the cruise ships is great – but the covered parking lot is not just a short walk from the ship. There’s no free shuttle service, so you’ll be toting your stuff from the luggage drop-off on debarkation day.
  • There are no reservations . If the cruise parking lots are full for your cruise line, you’ll have to find other arrangements.
  • Prices are subject to change , according to the website for the Port Canaveral terminals. While the base price is $17 per day, you may end up paying even more for your cruise parking.
  • Traffic can be terrible, congested, and complicated for visitors. If you’re driving yourself, be prepared for wrong turns and sitting in Port Canaveral traffic.

Alternate Port Canaveral Parking options

When it comes to finding places to park, Port Canaveral has other parking deals for your cruise adventure.

We always recommend that parties park off-site. Not only do you get access to free shuttles that drop you off right at the cruise port, many places (like Port Canaveral Parking) offer security and top-notch customer service that doesn’t come with a sky-high price tag.

All of our cruise packages for parking involve no transportation fees (your shuttle ride is complimentary!) and parking rates that are nearly half of the terminal parking.

We go to all Port Canaveral cruise lines, including Disney, Royal Caribbean International, MSC Cruises, Norwegian, and Carnival. Make same-day reservations or plan months ahead to guarantee your Port Canaveral parking spot!

Port Canaveral Hotel Cruise PArking

If you’re staying in Cocoa Beach, there are some locations that offer Port Canaveral cruise parking. The Holiday Inn Express, Country Inn, Radisson Resort, and other hotels will let you leave your vehicle during your vacation.

However, these packages are often much more expensive than leaving your car at a cruisetime parking facility. If you’re cruising on a budget or want to save up for some souvenirs, hotel parking is NOT the way to go.

Port Canaveral Port Overview (Parking, Terminals, and Maps)

If you’re heading out to Port Canaveral, there’s some great news. Despite being one of the busiest cruise ports in the world — serving roughly 4 million passengers each year — the port is a breeze to navigate.

Still, if you’re unfamiliar with the area getting to your ship can be a little confusing. That’s why we’ve put together this guide to help get you where you’re going.

Getting Acquainted with the Cruise Port

Starting out, it helps to have an overview of the port before you get there. The port is located about 45 minutes due east of Orlando, on Cape Canaveral. Don’t worry about not being able to find it. There is only one road from Orlando to Cape Canaveral — Florida 528 (a toll road also know as the “Beachline”).

The Beachline take you directly to Port Canaveral. We’ve highlighted it below:

Port Canaveral Map

Assuming you are coming from Orlando, once you reach Cape Canaveral (after going over two causeways), you will see a roadsign giving you two options. You can either stay on the Beachline to head toward the “B” cruise terminals or you can exit to your right to go to the “A” cruise terminals.

The “A” terminal is where the large cruise ships — Disney, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival — make their home. You will take this exit to your right and make a large loop around. Once you make the loop, you will see the cruise ships almost directly ahead of you.

Continue down this road and you will head straight until you are almost past all the cruise terminals. Eventually you will see a large blue sign listing all the cruise lines with an arrow that tells you to veer to the right. Just past that, you will see a single lane exiting to the right. This exit will lead you to the cruise terminals.

To know where to go next, you need an overview of the cruise terminals at Port Canaveral. While the port is large, each of the major cruise line has its own dedicated terminals.

Carnival uses terminals 5&6. Disney uses terminal 8. Royal Caribbean uses terminal 10.

We’ve mapped out the location of the terminals below:

Port Canaveral terminal map

Carnival Cruise Terminals (#5 & #6)

Once you exit, you will continue straight (there will be signs directing you) to head to the Carnival cruise terminals. As you continue straight, you will pass directly in front of the terminals, giving you a chance to drop off passengers or luggage.

On your left you will see the parking garage and parking lots. Things can get a little confusing, so we’ve included the map below to who you the path you can take to pass in front of the two terminals and then continue on to the parking lot.

Port Canaveral terminal 5 map

Disney Cruise Terminal (#8)

To get to Disney’s port (Terminal #8), you will take a right after exiting from the main road into the port. Once you exit, you will loop around to your right, before heading back south — the direction from which you originally came into the port.

As you head south, you will want to look for the left lane, which will be marked on the asphalt with a large arrow that says “Disney” underneath. Eventually this lane will turn to the left, and head to the terminal.

Once you turn, we suggest staying in the left two lanes. This will take you through a point where you can drop off passengers or luggage. From there, you will see the parking area on your left. The entrance is on the left, just past the parking garage.

Port Canaveral Disney terminal

Royal Caribbean Cruise Terminal (#10)

If you are sailing Royal Caribbean, you will take a right after exiting from the main road into the port. Once you exit, you will loop around to your right, before heading back south — the direction from which you originally came into the port.

From here you will pass the Disney terminal on your left. Keep going. Eventually the road loops around toward the ship and the Royal Caribbean terminal.

Parking is on your right so you will want to be in the rightmost lane, exiting just before you reach the parking garage and surface lot.

Port Canaveral terminal 10

One thing to keep in mind no matter where you cruise from — help is just a question away. Cruise days are busy, and the port understands that many people aren’t sure exactly where they should go. Don’t hesitate to ask.

Best Things to Do in (and Near) Port Canaveral

I f you’re cruising out of Port Canaveral, consider adding a day or two pre- or post-cruise. The port is in Central Florida, ideally located within easy reach of some of the most popular area attractions, like the Kennedy Space Center and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. The Orlando theme parks are within day trip driving distance too. Here are the top things to do in and around Port Canaveral.

Best Things to Do Near Port Canaveral Cruise Port

Kennedy space center, merritt island.

Port Canaveral is on Florida’s Space Coast, so our #1 choice is Kennedy Space Center . To see the entire complex does take approximately a full day. However, there are shorter itineraries  that will hit the high spots.

Some of the top experiences include the Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour, which gives a good overview of the complex, a guided tour of the amazing Rocket Garden, and the Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex, and Heroes & Legends, which features the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame. Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is one attraction to add to your bucket list when planning a cruise  out of Port Canaveral.

Brevard Veterans Memorial, Merritt Island

Military history enthusiasts will enjoy the incredible collection of military artifacts dating from the Revolutionary War to the modern day. The museum, plaza, and 82-acre park, with walking trails and a playground, are free. The park does have pavilions for rent as well.

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Merritt Island

The refuge resulted from NASA acquiring the lands and waters of nearby Cape Canaveral to establish the Kennedy Space Center. In August 1963, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service signed an agreement establishing the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge .

The refuge provides a safe habitat for more than 1,500 species of plants and wildlife to flourish. It is a prime example of how, when properly planned and managed, nature and technology can co-exist.

Canaveral National Seashore

Running between New Smyrna Beach and Titusville Florida, Canaveral National Seashore has diverse habitats. The habitats include a barrier island, open lagoon, coastal hammock, pine flatwoods, and offshore waters. The Canaveral Seashore is also a National Park.

Two entrances provide access to the Canaveral National Seashore: Apollo Beach (New Smyrna) and Playalina Beach (Titusville). The visitor center is located near the Apollo Beach entrance to the park.

To fish in the Canaveral National Seashore Park, you must possess a valid Florida Fishing License  if you are 16 or older, and you must follow the requirements of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. If you need fishing equipment, A1A Outdoors offers rental gear .

Kayaking in the Mosquito Lagoon of Canaveral National Seashore is a favorite pastime. You never know what you will see, and you will get a unique perspective of the park. Viking Eco Tours  offers kayak tours of the lagoon.

Cape Canaveral Lighthouse

Because of its location on the Cape Canaveral Space Force station, visitors must take a guided tour . Only US citizens can tour the lighthouse and the Space Force Station at Cape Canaveral.

Canaveral Lighthouse Tours offers weekly tours to the Lighthouse and Space Force Station. The tours last approximately four hours. Custom and private tours are available but check with Canaveral Lighthouse Tours for more information. Pickup and parking for tours is at Port Canaveral.

You’ll spend about an hour at the Lighthouse, where a guide will provide a tour. You can climb the first five floors of the lighthouse, as well as the outside staircase.

Exploration Tower, Port Canaveral

Currently closed for a maintenance project, the Exploration Tower  is a capsule of the history of Port Canaveral, an enclosed observation deck for viewing port traffic, an indoor observation deck for viewing rocket launches from Kennedy Space Center, and an outdoor observation deck offering 360-degree views of the port and surrounding areas.

Jetty Park, Port Canaveral

Have time to spare before you board your ship? Head to Jetty Park, the closest beach to Port Canaveral for fun in the sun! The beach is perfect for spending the morning getting some rays and playing in the water before you board the ship. There are also pavilions, a playground for the little ones, and restrooms so you can clean up and dress for boarding your cruise ship.

Wizard of Oz Museum, Cape Canaveral

For movie buffs, a stop at the Wizard of Oz Museum in Cape Canaveral  is a must! The mission of the Wizard of Oz Museum is to raise awareness of the rich history of the Oz cosmos to the public.

This fairy tale, set in Kansas, is a genuine American fairy tale that has had a profound impact on American culture. The museum seeks to foster conversation and meaningful connections through imagination and stories, creating an immersive experience as you venture into the world of The Wizard of Oz.

The museum was opened in 2018 by the family of Fred Trust. Trust has collected Wizard of Oz memorabilia for 35 years. With a degree in computer science and having worked in the field for 40+ years, Trust has created an immersive experience that allows visitors to experience scenes right out of the Wizard of Oz books.

The newly designed scenes are not in the movie, providing a brand-new experience for guests. Over 2000 display items are housed in the museum, including original props from the film. This is the museum to visit if you are a die-hard Wizard of Oz fan!

Top Day Trip Destinations From Port Canaveral

Disney world.

Disney World is two hours from Port Canaveral and an easy drive. If you are flying in for a cruise leaving Port Canaveral, why not plan a pre- or post-cruise day trip visit to Disney? Check out some tips here  if you are a first-time visitor to Disney World.

Universal Studios

Universal is also about two hours from the Canaveral cruise port and would be another option for a pre- or post-cruise visit. You’ll have your pick of Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay, and City Walk.

Read More: If you are struggling to decide between a visit to Disney or Universal, here is a comparison.

For a twist on theme parks, check out SeaWorld and its three parks: Discovery Cove, Aquatica, and SeaWorld. I love that at the heart of SeaWorld’s mission is their heart for animal rescue and rehabilitation.

  • SeaWorld Orlando  has sensational roller coasters, animal encounters, and some rides that get you wet and cooled off.
  • Discovery Cove  is an all-inclusive day resort where you can experience hand-feeding exotic birds, snorkeling with thousands of colorful tropical fish and rays, and relaxing on sandy beaches. If you are a fan of dolphins, you can even swim with dolphins. Everything you need for a relaxing, fun-filled day at this unique, exclusive park is included: towels, food, drink, and snorkeling equipment.
  • Aquatica is an experience that offers adrenaline-filled rides, personal up-close animal encounters, a lazy river, and sandy beaches all rolled into one unforgettable experience!

Orlando, the theme park capital of America, offers so many fun things to do for a day trip it’s hard to choose!

Airboat Rides Melbourne

Just a short 46-minute drive from Port Canaveral cruise port, don’t miss out on the opportunity to take an airboat ride . Each trip carries a maximum of seven friends and family.

Your tour will be personalized to you. The guides are knowledgeable and know all the best places to spot the local wildlife – including alligators!

Kayak Tours

Kayak Tours on the Space Coast are plentiful, so choose your tour carefully! If you want to see manatees or dolphins, check if they mention these on the tour company website.

Because of the number of dolphins in the area, you are almost always able to see them but ask the tour company. You might also see a gator or three!

Cocoa Beach

Cocoa Beach is one of the places that comes to mind when talking about Florida beach towns; it is also one of Florida’s more affordable vacation spots, with many things to do and see. Its close location to Port Canaveral makes it another choice for pre- or post-cruise opportunities.

Cocoa Beach Pier

One of the best choices when visiting Cocoa Beach is to head for the Westgate Cocoa Beach Pier. This historic landmark stretches 800 feet over the Atlantic Ocean and is almost a one-stop destination itself!

The pier offers restaurants, bars, gift shops, beach rentals, freshwater showers, live entertainment, and live music. There are regulation beach volleyball courts and lifeguards year-round.

For surfing enthusiasts, Cocoa Beach offers some of the best surfing on the East Coast. Have a desire to learn to surf? No problem! You can take a surf lesson or two at Cocoa Beach!

Florida Key Lime Pie Shop

Florida is known for many things, among them Key Lime Pie. Have you never tried Key Lime pie before? Then, plan a quick stop at Florida Key Lime Pie Shop in Cocoa Beach. You’ll find a vast array of Key Lime favorites and more.

Ron Jon Surf Shop – A Travel Destination in Itself

Founded by Ron DiMenna in 1959 on the New Jersey shore, Ron Jon Surf Shop  has its own surf culture. In 1963, the Florida flagship surf shop opened in Cocoa Beach.

Today, Ron Jon Surf Shop Cocoa Beach is not just an ordinary surf shop; it is a travel destination, drawing visitors from across the globe. The two-story store offers everything needed for surfing, days on the beach, and more. They have surfboards, skimboards, surf and beach clothing, and accessories.

Open 365 days a year, the shop spans two acres. Ron Jon’s offers more surf and beach gear than any other surf shop in the country.

I Dream of Jeannie

When many hear “Cocoa Beach,” two things immediately pop into their heads – Cape Kennedy, now known as Cape Canaveral, Kennedy Space Center, and the long-running television show “I Dream of Jeannie.” The sitcom ran from 1965 to 1979. Cape Kennedy and Cocoa Beach were the settings for the story, which was filmed in California.

Though there is no home to visit, you’ll find “I Dream of Jeannie” memorabilia scattered throughout the area. The most popular place to visit is the street sign “I Dream of Jeannie” Lane and the historical marker.

Cocoa Beach Aerial Adventures

Do you love ziplining or are you curious to try? If yes, then you must try Cocoa Beach Aerial Adventures .

The aerial park was designed to intentionally become an integral aspect of the natural beauty of the area and to have a minimal impact on the land.

Snuggled between two bodies of water, the Banana River and the Atlantic Ocean, you’ll have a breeze even on the hottest summer day, and you will experience breathtaking views from the highest platforms. Imagine being high up in the treetops, surrounded by nature, as you embark on a memorable aerial adventure.

Taking a Cruise Out of Port Canaveral

Port Canaveral in Brevard County in Central Florida is our top choice for taking a cruise ship out of Florida. Four airports are nearby, so taking a cruise from Port Canaveral is easy for those flying into the area. The airports are Daytona Beach International Airport  (DAB), Orlando Sanford International Airport  (SFB), Orlando International Airport  (MCO), and Melbourne International Airport  (MLB), which is the closest to Port Canaveral.

The cruise port is easy to navigate, with clear signage directing you to the cruise terminal for your ship departure. There is plenty of parking, and folks are on hand to help direct you to the proper location.

For adults who are traveling without children, Victory Casino Cruises also leaves from Port Canaveral. This cruise is an authentic Las Vegas-style casino experience in Florida on the Space Coast. The cruises are typically five to six hours, departing and returning to Port Canaveral. There are two sailings a day, featuring slots, live table games, craps and more.

Cruising out of Port Canaveral is an incredible way to experience a small taste of Central Florida. With theme parks, all-inclusive experiences, and adrenaline-pumping fun to relaxing beach days, the Space Coast in Central Florida is a great option for your next cruise.

A  Florida rocket launch was set to launch Wednesday, June 12, and — weather permitting — the Space Coast  should get a great view of liftoff . Will it rain in Melbourne, Cocoa Beach or Cape Canaveral, Florida, today?

Where to watch a spacex rocket launch from space coast of florida.

Pretty much anywhere  in Brevard, you'll get a view of the rocket  launch. The best view to watch a rocket launch from the Space Coast is along the beach. However, visibility will depend on weather conditions and people should make sure not to block traffic or rights of way on bridges and to follow posted rules at beaches.

If you are viewing the launch along the Indian River in Titusville from Space View Park or Parrish Park, look east directly across the river.

If you are farther south along the Indian River, look northeast.

Playalinda Beach or Canaveral National Seashore is the closest spot to view liftoff because it is almost parallel to Launch Pad 39A. On the beach, look south along the coastline, (you can even see the pad from some spots).

Some hotspots to check out:

  • Jetty Park Beach and Pier , 400 Jetty Park Road,  Port Canaveral . Note, there's a charge to park.
  • Playalinda Beach , 1000 Playalinda Beach Road, Canaveral National Seashore. Note, there's a charge to park, and access to Canaveral National Seashore isn't always granted depending on capacity and time of day.

A flurry of rockets will launch from Florida's Space Coast this year. How to watch Friday

Correction: An earlier version of this story misstated the location of rocket launches this year.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. − Two more rocket launches are on the horizon again this week in Florida.

On Friday, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying Starlink internet satellites will launch just before 6:45 p.m. You can watch live coverage starting 90 minutes before liftoff at  floridatoday.com/space .

On Saturday, Boeing's Starliner will depart with NASA astronauts bound for the International Space Station. The launch is currently slated for 12:25 p.m., and backup opportunities exist on Sunday. Should Starliner not be able to launch this weekend, additional opportunities exist on Wednesday and Thursday. Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams  have been in health quarantine preparing for the flight.

Forty rockets have launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and NASA’s Kennedy Space Center so far this year, putting Florida’s Space Coast on track to break last year’s freshly established annual record of 72 orbital rocket launches.

Most of the rockets are SpaceX, and the rest are NASA and United Launch Alliance, an aerospace and defense company.

As more SpaceX rockets take off from Florida this year, and at a faster pace, the launches have interrupted some events. In March, live coverage of a New York Mets spring training game was momentarily disrupted when announcers were awed by the sight of  a SpaceX rocket thundering over  the Florida ballpark.

What is Starlink?

More than 70 countries can now access Starlink high-speed internet service, and the constellation of the network's satellites in low-Earth orbit continues to grow.

The low-cost, high-speed internet allows people to connect online in RVs or campers in remote places, and from boats in the ocean, according to the company's website.

A Starlink satellite can last for approximately five years, according to NasaSpaceFlights.com , and SpaceX has been launching them since 2019.

Where to watch rocket launches this year

This Friday and Saturday, depending on cloud cover and the weather, all of Brevard County and the Space Coast should get a great view of the rocket liftoffs once again. Here are some of the top viewing spots we recommend:

Pretty much anywhere  in Brevard, you'll get a view of the rocket  launch. The best view to watch a rocket launch from the Space Coast is along the beach.
