Uva university singers may 2023 tour:.

concert tours virginia 2023

The ensemble will present a program of a cappella and accompanied works featuring excerpts from Rachmaninoff’s  Vespers  and Johnson’s  Considering Matthew Shepard ; works by several women composers including Abbie Betinis, Rosephanye Powell, and Alice Parker; Jake Runestad’s “Let My Love Be Heard,” J.A.C. Redford’s “Let Beauty Be Our Memorial,” the Beatles “Blackbird,” a Nigerian carol, an arrangement of the folk song “Loch Lomond,” and more, including the traditional UVA songs.  The Singers look forward to sharing their music – join us for a performance at one of this year’s tour venues!  (The complete list is included below.)

The UVA University Singers is the University of Virginia’s flagship choral ensemble, heard by thousands each season in performances of a cappella and accompanied choral repertoire, including major works with orchestra.  In 2017, the group joined the Charlottesville Symphony on the steps of the Rotunda to perform for UVA’s Bicentennial Launch Celebration, before an estimated crowd of 20,000.  In recent years, the Singers have also sung for  Les Misérables  creators Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil during their UVA residencies, sung for the 2016 UVA Holiday greeting which received more than 400,000 views on social media, presented Bernstein’s  Mass  for the 2018 Bernstein centennial, and taken a two-week concert tour of England, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Austria.  Other choral program highlights have included concerts and workshops with Bobby McFerrin and Meredith Monk, a performance for Hillary Clinton, a performance for the 2010 VMEA Conference, a 2012 workshop with members of the Tallis Scholars, a 2014 performance for Philip Glass, and frequent collaborations with the Charlottesville Symphony, including the popular Family Holiday Concerts.  During the pandemic, they continued to present virtual performances, and hosted online master classes with Eric Whitacre, Alice Parker, and other choral luminaries.  Highlights since have included a joint performance of Rachmaninoff’s  Vespers  with the Oratorio Society of VA, and a performance for Pres. Ryan’s Arts on the Hill series – and the ensemble looks forward to a May 2023 concert tour.

Students in the University Singers come from UVA's six undergraduate schools, including Arts and Sciences, Education, and Engineering, as well as several of the University's graduate and professional schools. While approximately 25-30% are music majors, the ensemble is open to any student by audition, and is a for-credit curricular class. Together, members enjoy an esprit de corps that arises from the pursuit of musical excellence, and the camaraderie the singers develop offstage.

The complete tour itinerary follows.  A freewill donation will be taken at most of the tour concerts.   For more information  please call (434) 924-3052 or visit:

Bruce Springsteen postpones 4 concerts in Europe due to ‘vocal issues’

Bruce Springsteen

Boss takes break: Bruce Springsteen, suffering from "vocal issues," has canceled four shows on his European tour. (Kieran Frost/Redferns)

Rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Famer Bruce Springsteen canceled at least four shows on his European tour, citing vocal issues.

Springsteen, 74, canceled Saturday night’s show in Marseille, France, Rolling Stone reported. The other shows impacted included a May 28 show in Prague and two dates in Milan, Italy (June 1 and 3), according to the magazine.

The rocker and the E Street Band had scheduled weeklong breaks between shows. His next scheduled concert is June 12 in Madrid, Spain, according to Rolling Stone .

“Following yesterday’s postponement in Marseille due to vocal issues, further examination and consulting has led doctors to determine that Bruce should not perform for the next ten days,” an announcement on the band’s Instagram account stated. “With this in mind, additional postponements are required for Airport Letnany in Prague (originally scheduled for May 28) and San Siro Stadium in Milan (originally scheduled for June 1 and 3). New dates for these shows will be announced shortly. Those wishing a refund will be able to obtain it at their original point of purchase.

Springsteen “is recuperating comfortably,” the post stated.

The “Born to Run” singer postponed multiple dates on the group’s North American tour in September, Variety reported. Springsteen had been suffering from a peptic ulcer, according to the entertainment news website.

The band rescheduled the dates in early 2024, but Springsteen continues to experience voice problems, Variety reported.

During the early part of 2023, Springsteen and the E Street Band had to cancel several concert dates due to several members coming down with the COVID-19 virus, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Megan Thee Stallion Is Joined by Cardi B and GloRilla at Sold-Out Madison Square Garden: Concert Review

Megan Thee Stallion

“Y’all, this is my first tour ever!” Megan Thee Stallion shouted with glee after picking up a floral bouquet thrown onto the stage by a fan. Surprisingly, after headlining and performing at numerous festivals in the years since her star began to rise in 2017, Stallion’s “Hot Girl Summer ” is her first full-scale headlining trek, and on this Tuesday night she’d sold out New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden.

Popular on Variety

The energy peaked and the crowd went batshit when a special guest walked onstage to show her support: Cardi B. The two rapped “Bongos” and their smash single “WAP,” although Cardi was more focused on dancing. Next, Stallion’s opener GloRilla, whose set earlier in the night got a visit from A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, came out joined the pair for “Wanna Be.”

“Y’all wanna hear ‘Wanna Be’ with muthafuckin Cardi B?” GloRilla shouted. “‘Wanna Be’ muthafucking remix about to drop y’all — be ready. Stay tuned!”

But just when it seemed the audience couldn’t get any rowdier, “Savage Remix” came thundering through the speakers, although Beyonce did not join in for their joint 2019 hit, which for many is filled with memories of learning TikTok dances at home to pass the time during pandemic lockdown.

She closed out “Savage” and the night, picking up another bouquet as confetti drenched the stage, blowing kisses and saying a tearful goodnight: “I love you, New York Hotties!”
