Avril Lavigne is one of my favorite artists in the pop/rock genre and for good reason.

She has incredible stage presence and really works hard to draw you into each and every stage performance that she does. The best part about her performances to me is that rather than always have a full band play her songs she sometimes prefers to instead sing over a simple acoustic guitar and light piano. It would be easy to sing over loud music to hide mistakes in performance, but in singing over simple low music she is able to project her natural voice and show those in the audience her natural talent without the extra things that could have helped to enhance it. This shows that she has complete confidence in her own voice and this also carries into her confidence on stage at every performance.

During "Let Me Go" the audience slowly moves from side to side as they listen to her sing and they keep quiet for long enough to ensure that she is able to sing clearly and only choose to cheer in areas of the song that encourage it.

If I had to nail down a part of the performance that draws me to see Avril Lavigne sing and perform live it would be the fact that she refuses to do anything to hide her natural singing voice and instead does everything in her power to ensure that everyone in the audience knows she is actually singing. She has come a long way from her early days and songs like this show her extreme talent and her wide vocal range.

With each one of her performances I really feel that she is speaking to me and it really does feel as if she understands the thoughts and feelings of people in all different walks of life. She never goes over the top, and shows that that's not necessary to project a message through her song that she wants to convey.

EXCELLENT!! Avril sang from her newest album as well as from Let Go and and many in between. Watching her sing 'Skater Boi' while the screen behind her showed her early video was endearing. She is as beautiful today as much as she was a spunky rebel years ago singing 'Complicated'. For 2 of the songs she was playing the piano. Her costume changes were perfect for the songs she performed--if you can picture the album covers, you have the right idea. Don't miss her is she appears in your city; get seats close to the stage if you can. She really encourages the audience to sing along with her.

Hi I really enjoyed the show, despite being somewhat short. I bought a red rose for her and when she was singing in front of our section, I noticed she smiled. I resent not taking a picture. I have been a fan of hers since 2002.

The show was good but very short. Not a lot of songs from her new album. Was disappointing to say the least - especially for a hometown show. We would have loved to hear more complete versions from her new album.

This was my first time seeing Avril Lavigne. She did a lot of old songs and messed up the ending of Happy Endings. She did a few new songs. Overall I had fun.

Avril Lavigne announces The Greatest Hits Tour with Simple Plan, All Time Low

Avril Lavigne is giving fans their "happy ending" on her upcoming The Greatest Hits Tour, announced on Monday.

The pop-punk singer is hitting the road with Simple Plan and All Time Low starting in May. The latter will join Royal & The Serpent to kick off the tour in Vancouver on May 22. The Canadian artist will hit over 25 cities, including Las Vegas, Phoenix, Toronto, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Chicago, before ending the tour in Edmonton, Alberta, on Sept. 16.

Lavigne's latest release, her seventh studio album "Love Sux," was released in 2022 with assistance from Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker .

That year also saw Lavigne receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .

The "Complicated" singer told USA TODAY it was great to "get back" to an old sound.

"It was so much fun to get back into that sense of wanting to rock out," Lavigne said of working on the new record, which arrived in various formats, including cassettes. "I didn't really overthink anything. I got together with people who understood me in this genre and we complemented each other so well."

Hey, Hey, You, You! I know you want to see pop-punk princess Avril Lavigne live in concert, and lucky for you, now’s your chance. The “Complicated” singer is bringing her “Greatest Hits Tour” to the Darien Lake Amphitheater, about 30 miles east of Buffalo, on Tuesday, August 20. The concert starts at 7 p.m., with special guest Simple Plan Girlfriends opening.

The career-spanning run, which is Lavigne’s eighth headlining concert tour, began on May 22 in Vancouver, Canada, and has included stops worldwide before its scheduled conclusion on September 18 in Calgary, Canada.

As the name suggests, Lavigne will showcase all the greatest hits from her extensive discography. This year, the singer celebrated the 20th anniversary of her multi-platinum sophomore album “Under My Skin” and released a fitting “Greatest Hits” album in support of the tour.

Her Greatest Hits Tour kicks off May 22nd in Vancouver and extends into September making other Canadian stops in Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg and Edmonton. U.S. markets on the itinerary include Inglewood, Las Vegas, Wantagh, Nashville and Chicago. Also during the year, the artist will be heading over to Europe for multiple festival appearances.

Lavigne will continue supporting her seventh studio album 'Love Sux' released on February 25th, 2022 via DTA and Elektra Records. Avril Lavigne mails in the hits at disappointing N.J. concert | Review

Maybe we should’ve seen this coming.

At just 39, Avril Lavigne has already entered her greatest hits era, embarking in May on a plainly billed “Greatest Hits Tour” across Europe and North America. She’s also released a “Greatest Hits” album this year, which spans a career forever pegged to the early ‘00s pop-punk boom and global smashes like “Sk8r Boi” and “Complicated.”

While it’s folly to begrudge an artist for cashing in on past successes — everyone does it at some point, and the Canadian singer-songwriter has been a star since she was 17 — it is disheartening to see an icon so beloved by a certain sector of fishnet-donning millennials phoning in her live performances.

Lavigne’s sold-out concert at PNC Bank Arts Center Friday night — her first New Jersey headlining show since 2004 — had all the makings of a propulsive retrospective on one of the more significant pop-rock careers of the 21st Century. Fans piled onto the Holmdel lawn in their best hot-pink-and-jet-black plaid skirts, chunky boots and, of course, neckties with tank tops, mimicking Lavigne’s pseudo-rebellious, MTV’s “T.R.L.”-era aesthetic.

The crowd was electric as fellow Canadian pop-punk favorites Simple Plan opened with 50 minutes of fun, and singer Pierre Bouvier frenzied the crowd to a boil, ready to overflow into pure pop-punk euphoria for Lavigne’s set.

But from the moment Lavigne took the stage, sleepwalking through what should’ve been a propulsive opener in the 2007 cheer-pop hit “Girlfriend,” it was clear she was just going through the motions. For an artist who’s built her fanbase on no-B.S. authenticity and vulnerability — she’s always been more Alanis than Joan Jett — her 90-minute set was a big, glazed-over disappointment. No depth, no passion, nothing to establish a connection to the crowd or the night’s singularity — just the hits and only the hits.

While it’s no secret artists repeat the same stories to audiences night after night, Lavigne’s approach to recounting her teen years living in New York, writing her debut album — even just asking how the crowd was doing and assuring “we are having so much fun ” — felt exceedingly phony, expressed through plastered smiles (see: gritted teeth). The only real sentiment came was when Lavigne was handed a beer before “Here’s to Never Growing Up” and said she couldn’t chug the drink because she’d be “burping (her) way through the next song.”

Perhaps Lavigne does genuinely loathe the pageantry of entertaining 17,000 people, and after 20-plus years of on-and-off touring would rather be playing to a small club, sitting a stool and getting more intimate with an acoustic guitar. To her credit, Lavigne sang very well — her enduring vocal talent was never in question, especially on the soaring belts of “Smile,” “Losing Grip” and “When You’re Gone.”

But it was telling that her set’s most thrilling moment came when Simple Plan joined her and her five-piece band on stage, for a duet of Simple Plan’s hit “Addicted.” It was here that the crowd woke back up, spurred by Bouvier, a frontman who better commanded the room. Lavigne shrunk in this setting, though she did offer a bit of fan service, bringing two young diehards on stage for a photo and free skateboard.

It’s unfortunate, as Lavigne seemed — from a far at least — to be back on the upswing. Her 2022 album “Love Sux,” her first release under Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker’s new record label, was an exhilarating and punchy effort. And this nostalgic summer tour, teeming with pyro blasts and pink-and-black streamer cannons, is her biggest American trek in over a decade.

But it was all too obvious this was just another night on the road, and an unworthy representation of a largely stellar catalog, which stretches well beyond the radio jams. I’d happily defend some of the tracks from forgotten albums like “Goodbye Lullaby” (2011) or “Avril Lavigne” (2013).

Though I won’t do that here. Let’s call it a bad night and move on. After all, this was a performance she almost certainly won’t remember, so why should we?
