Planning Your Trip

When planning a wine tour in the Hamptons, there are a few important things to consider to ensure you have the best experience possible. This section will cover two key areas to consider when planning your trip: the best time to visit and choosing the right tour.

Best Time to Visit

The Hamptons wine region is a popular destination year-round, but the best time to visit depends on your preferences. If you prefer warmer weather and more outdoor activities, the summer months of June to August are ideal. However, keep in mind that this is peak season, so prices may be higher and crowds may be larger.

If you prefer cooler weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting in the spring or fall. The months of April to May and September to October offer comfortable temperatures and beautiful foliage. Keep in mind that some wineries may have limited hours or be closed during the off-season, so be sure to check ahead.

Choosing the Right Tour

When choosing a wine tour in the Hamptons, there are several factors to consider. Some tours may focus on specific wineries or wine varietals, while others may offer a more general overview of the region.

It's important to consider the size of the tour group as well. Smaller groups may offer a more personalized experience, while larger groups may be more social and lively. Additionally, consider the mode of transportation. Some tours may offer transportation via bus, while others may offer private car services or even horse-drawn carriages.

Be sure to research different tour options and read reviews from previous customers to get an idea of what to expect. It's also a good idea to book your tour in advance to ensure availability and to allow for any necessary planning.

Exploring Hamptons Vineyards: A Guide to Hamptons Wine Tasting and Tours

Hamptons Wine Vineyards

Everything to know about which Hamptons wineries to visit during your stay on Long Island.

When it comes to Long Island vineyards and wineries, most people think of the North Fork as the end-all-be-all. The truth is, there are a handful of beautiful Hamptons vineyards worth visiting — and each one has its own unique personality and offerings.

While the South Fork doesn’t boast quite as many wine-tasting experiences as its northern counterpart, it may very well offer more than you think.

From which wine to order at each destination to how far ahead to book your winery tour, here’s Yacht Hampton’s official guide to the best vineyards in the Hamptons. Cheers!

Wölffer estate vineyard.

2e03782f0fdf431a35ee9a6a3bf29b10

While you may be familiar with their viral “Summer in a Bottle” rosé wine, you may not realize that Wölffer has a stunning Hamptons estate and vineyard right in Sagaponack. The tasting room at Wölffer Estate is open year-round, seven days a week. It features rustic-modern decor, and it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding vineyards and Hamptons landscape. Sit inside the winery tasting room or outside on the patio as you enjoy their wine by the glass, bottle, or flight. Plus, drink wine as you snack on small bites and aesthetic cheese and charcuterie boards.

Though walk-ins are welcome, winery reservations are highly recommended – and occasionally the Hamptons estate may be closed for private events. Make a reservation at Wölffer for your group of eight or less up to two weeks in advance, and make the most of your day on the vineyard. Take photos in the vines after your tasting, and pick up a few bottles on your way out to enjoy at home.

Another little-known secret: Wölffer’s Wine Stand Boutique. Situated right on Montauk Highway, get a taste of the winery experience without having to plan ahead. The charming Wölffer Estate Wine Stand is a casual, laid-back outpost where you can sip signature Wölffer wines and ciders while you watch the sunset on the vineyard. Plus, it’s a popular post-beach pitstop for purchasing bottles to go.

Duck Walk Vineyards

duck-walk-vineyards-imgb

This family-owned winery and vineyard is a well-known name on the North Fork, but they also have a Southampton village location. With the Duck Walk winery open seven days a week, visitors can enjoy wine by the glass, bottle, or opt for their signature wine tastings for $16 per person. One tasting includes a sampling of any four wines — white wine, red wine, dessert wine, and more. Light snacks are available for purchase, and you can also feel free to bring your own light bites to enjoy in the vineyards.

Duck Walk requires reservations for groups of six or more, but they don’t include seating. The outdoor seating at this laid-back winery is first-come, first served. The winery patio is lined with picnic tables and people sitting on blankets on the grass. Pets are welcome at the vineyards, and there’s live music on the weekends in the warmer weather. It’s casual, fun, and you’ll get to taste blends from one of the most popular names in Long Island wine.

Channing Daughters

Bridgehampton.

Sylvanus+vineyard+near+harvest+time

Situated on twenty-eight acres in Bridgehampton, Channing Daughters winery and vineyards creates wines from more than two dozen grape varieties — about half of which are sourced from special sites, vineyards, and people on the North Fork.

The charming Hamptons winery includes both a retail shop and tasting experience that open daily at 11AM. Channing Daughters offers seated tastings for groups of up to six guests from November through May, and up to eight guests from June through October. They take reservations up to two weeks in advance, as well as walk-ins on a first-come first-served basis — though in the summer months, it’s always best to book ahead.

Opt for a themed flight or taste Hamptons wine by the glass, and choose a few picnic-style snacks to enjoy with your wine. The winery tasting experience differs depending on your group size and whether you’d like to be standing or seated, so be sure to ask about their different options for larger groups. Regardless of the occasion, you’ll love exploring their unique blends in a beautiful setting.

The good news about these Hamptons wineries and vineyards is that you can’t go wrong. Read a review of each winery online, and choose from one of these vineyards or tour all three. Try a selection of delicious wines, and rest assured that anyone who may not drink in your party can still enjoy non-alcoholic beverages and beautiful scenery.

Whether you visit Long Island for the weekend, travel here for the whole summer, or live permanently at a local Hamptons home, touring the vineyards will be one of your favorite things to do with friends and family. As long as you do your best to book ahead, you can plan anything from special events to a simple day of wonderful wine tasting.

The Top Wineries In The Hamptons (Best Vineyards, Tours, & Tastings)

' src=

Wine tasting is a favorite pastime among Hamptons goers. The east end of Long Island has provided fertile farmland for lifetimes past, well beyond the arrival of Europeans in the 1600’s.

With a climate similar to Northern Italy or the Bordeaux region of France — plus the East End’s persistent salty breeze — expect high quality wines, especially of the red variety.

It’s no surprise grapes are among the many that harvest well on Long Island. However, with the first successful vineyard only popping up in the 70’s, the region’s wine industry is still quite young.

Most vineyards are still developing, experimenting, and discovering the region’s distinctions — a very fun time to be a consumer!

I spent a year living in the Hamptons, and regularly return to visit family, I’ve visited each vineyard on this list. Read on for the best wineries in the Hamptons.

Wineries In The Hamptons

While Long Island itself has about 50 wineries, with 40 on the North Fork alone, there are only 3 wineries in Hamptons.

This article primarily covers those three, plus other distilleries and breweries on the South Fork.

Towards the end, I’ll touch on a few of the popular vineyards on Long Island’s North Fork. And explain how best to get there from the Hamptons.

A Few Things To Know About Visiting Wineries In The Hamptons:

During the summer months (peak season), reservations are highly recommended, even on weekdays. Weekend time slots fill up well in advance, so plan accordingly.

Large groups, usually exceeding 8, require special reservations.

All three Hamptons vineyards are open year-round (yay!).

Getting To The Vineyards:

All three vineyards are centrally located and in close proximity to each other.

This makes the wineries easy to access, whether you’re coming from Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton, or Sag Harbor.

Those coming from Montauk are closest to Wölffer Estate, and those in Westhampton are closest to Duck Walk Vineyards.

Party buses and limousine drop offs are not allowed. Plan to hire an Uber, taxi, private driver, or bring along a sober buddy/ designated driver.

Duck Walk Vineyards

  • Location: Water Mill (near Southampton)
  • Tastings? Yes
  • Reservations Required? Recommended

Duck Walk Vineyard, located just outside the Village of Southampton in Water Mill, sits on 30 acres of grapevines. It’s complete with a Chateau-style tasting room overlooking the vineyard.

Tastings are casual here, with your choice of any 4 wines served from plastic cups for only $15.

Their award winning wines are well-balanced, familiar flavors — think Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Riesling and Rosé.

They also offer an interesting variety of dessert wines, it’s very much worth trying at least one to round out your tasting. We went with the Blueberry Port, paired with dark chocolate, of course.

They do offer a few non-wine options in the form of spirits. Plus simple snacks for a break between wine sipping.

Live music on their outdoor patio is standard on weekends — making this one of the favorite places to be on a summer afternoon in Southampton! Be sure to reserve your spot well in advance.

Channing Daughters Winery

  • Location: Bridgehampton
  • Reservations Required? Recommended

Just a few minutes from Duck Walk, in Bridgehampton, is Channing Daughters Winery which offers almost the complete opposite experience in terms of ambiance.

Quietly located just off Scuttlehole Road, the tasting room is completely surrounded by grapevines. There’s no live music here, so it’ll just be you and the vineyard.

At Channing Daughters you’ll find some of the lightest wines in the Hamptons, and fun options such as their playful and delicious orange wines.

Their tasting list includes varietals like Cabernet Franc, Blaufrankisch, and Refosco. Plus sparkling wines with far from average flavor profiles.

These are unique varieties you won’t be quick to find at the average liquor store — making this the perfect stop for wine-lovers looking to try something new.

The vineyard does occasionally provide non-wine options, such as ciders made from South Fork apples, plus small bites for snacking.

As mentioned above, there’s no live music, but the vineyard will occasionally host special events such as yoga in the vineyards or tasting classes.

Tip: While you’re here, keep an eye out for the large-scale sculptures scattered throughout the 100 acre property. These were created by owner Walter Channing.

Wölffer Estate Vineyard

  • Location: Sagaponack (near Bridgehampton)

Hands down the most popular winery in the Hamptons is Wölffer Estate. This 55 acre vineyard is the perfect place to kick back and sip vino among the grapevines.

The winery is famous for Rosés but offers a variety of fruity — though, not overly sweet — wines. Trying one of their Rosés is a definite must, but don’t shy away from the Chardonnay or Red blends.

The appropriately named, Summer in a Bottle Rosé , is a cult favorite. It’s an easy-to-drink wine, with a picture-perfect bottle screaming “Summer in the Hamptons.”

Tip: The Summer in a Bottle series also comes in White, which might be even better than the Rosé.

In addition to wines, the vineyard offers a wide variety of ciders (their Dry Rosé Cider is my favorite!), spirits, and even a few non-alcoholic wines.

Charcuterie boards and light bites for sharing are also available.

Wölffer is the only winery in the Hamptons offering tours. These need to be reserved in advance and are normally around $75 per person.

Note: If you find something you love, they ship cases of wine to most states. We’ve brought quite a few friends to Wölffer Estate, many of whom now ship this delightful wine to their home.

The Wine Stand At Wölffer Estate

A visit to Wölffer Estate’s tasting room is one of the most quintessential Hamptons experiences. However, if it’s all booked up or closed for a private event, check out their Wine Stand instead!

Located just a stone’s throw from the tasting room, this laid-back alternative is perfect for popping a cork and unwinding on their grassy lawn. And yes, you’ll still find yourself surrounded by rows of grapevines.

On Friday and Saturday evenings, The Wine Stand at Wölffer Estate puts on free sunset concerts.

Bring a blanket, lawn chairs, your closest friends, and enjoy live music. We spent a year living in the Hamptons and this was one of our favorite weekend activities!

Tip: Visiting in fall? Check out their Annual Harvest Party instead.

Non-Wine Options In The Hamptons

Want a break from the wine? The Hampton hamlets have a number of distillers and breweries, check out these local beer and spirit makers:

Hamptons Breweries

  • Montauk Brewing Company (Montauk)
  • Kidd Squid Brewing Company (Sag Harbor)
  • Westhampton Beach Brewing Company (Westhampton)
  • Shelter Island Craft Brewery (Shelter Island)
  • Hank’s Hard Cider (Water Mill)

Hamptons Distilleries

  • Sagaponack Farm Distillery (Sagaponack)
  • Wölffer Estate Vineyard (Sagaponack)
  • Montauk Distilling Co. (Montauk)

Wineries On The North Fork

If you’re looking for different vineyards, and are willing to make a day trip, consider the North Fork of Long Island!

Vineyards here have similar growing conditions to the Hamptons, resulting in related varietals, but on a larger scale. Again, there’s forty vineyards in this tiny region.

One of the best parts about the North Fork’s wineries? They mimic the attitude of the region: laid-back and unpretentious.

Popular Vineyards On Long Island’s North Fork:

There are many great options depending on your taste, these are some of the most popular North Fork vineyards:

  • Osprey’s Dominion
  • Paumanok Vineyards
  • Macari Vineyards
  • Sparkling Pointe Vineyard & Winery
  • Bedell Cellars
  • Raphael Wine
  • Pindar Vineyards
  • Lieb Cellars
  • Sannino Vineyard
  • One Woman Winery
  • Kontokosta Winery
  • McCall Wines

Tip: A few North Fork wineries have particularly beautiful scenery and excellent views of the Long Island Sound, such as Kontokosta Winery, an added bonus to a day spent drinking wine.

Getting To The North Fork

Getting to the North Fork from the South Fork looks like a short drive on the map, but don’t be fooled.

To get there you’ll need to take two short ferries, plus drive across Shelter Island, before arriving on the North Fork.

Or , drive all the way back to Riverhead, and from there, onto the North Fork.

The best way to go depends on which vineyard you’re visiting. The ferry route is best for wineries on the eastern end of the North Fork. Whereas driving around is best for wineries on the western end.

Note: If you’re not taking the ferry route, keep traffic delays in mind. If you are taking the ferry, you don’t need reservations. These ferry’s are very small operations, which run frequently, but you will need cash!

What To Wear To Hamptons Wineries

While you do want to get dressed up for wine tastings, you probably don’t need to get  as  dressed up as you think.

The Hamptons style is elegant but with relaxed, beachy undertones.

Summer dresses and casual pant suits all lend themselves nicely to most “formal” affairs in the Hamptons.

Keep in mind, wineries in the Hamptons primarily offer outdoor seating, so you’ll want to wear weather-appropriate attire.

Below are a few ideas of what to wear to wineries in the Hamptons, all pieces are linked in the captions below.

For more ideas, check out: What To Wear In The Hamptons .

As you can see, there are some great wineries in the Hamptons, perfect for the wine-lover in all of us! I hope you’ve found this helpful in planning your vineyard outing.

Pairing Food with Wine

wine tour hamptons

Pairing food with wine is an art that can take some practice to perfect. When it comes to pairing wine with food, there are some general guidelines to follow that will help you make the most of your wine and food pairing experience.

First, consider the weight and flavor intensity of both the wine and the food. Light-bodied wines pair well with lighter dishes, while full-bodied wines pair well with heartier dishes. Similarly, delicate wines pair well with subtle flavors, while bold wines pair well with strong flavors.

When it comes to pairing wine with cheese, there are a few general guidelines to follow. For example, white wines pair well with soft, mild cheeses like brie, while red wines pair well with harder, stronger cheeses like cheddar. Sparkling wines also pair well with cheese, particularly those with high acidity.

When it comes to pairing wine with snacks, there are many options to choose from. For example, salty snacks like potato chips and pretzels pair well with crisp white wines, while sweet snacks like chocolate pair well with full-bodied red wines. Nuts and dried fruits also pair well with many types of wine, particularly those with a nutty or fruity flavor.

Summer in style: dom pérignon is planning a limited-time hamptons experience.

This series will explore the tactile nature of Dom Pérignon, inviting guests to delve into a unique ... [+] journey that celebrates the transcendent marriage of oenology and gastronomy through touch and trace as the essence of aesthetic value.

For wine lovers who want to visit France this summer are put off by Olympic crowds, you can still get a luxurious glimpse of Champagne stateside thanks to a new experience with Dom Pérignon .

This summer, the renowned champagne house will host a unique dining experience in the Hamptons titled "Tactility." Held from July 19th to 21st, 2024, at a private 21-acre estate, this exclusive series of reservations-only dinners promises to elevate the connection between fine wine and gastronomy with a focus on the textural elements of both food and champagne, creating a multi-sensory journey for guests.

“Dom Pérignon has always sought unique experiences to pair with our distinctive Vintages,” says Matthew Quintana, head of Dom Pérignon in the United States. “The Hamptons, with its serene beauty, myriad of textures and sophisticated palate, provides an ideal canvas for such an immersive experience. This setting resonates with Dom Pérignon's dedication to exceptional environments that enhance the enjoyment of our champagnes."

Guests will embark on a solo tasting of Dom Pérignon's latest vintages: Vintage 2015 and Vintage 2006 Plénitude 2 (P2). This will be followed by a collaborative culinary experience featuring Argentinian chef Francis Mallmann.

Known for his "7-Fire" cooking technique at his eponymous restaurant in Provence , Chef Mallmann has designed a special menu inspired by the contrasting profiles of the champagnes. Each dish will be crafted to complement the complexity and prestige of Dom Pérignon.

‘House Of The Dragon’ Season 2, Episode 2 Recap And Review: ‘I Love You Brother’

Disney forced to reveal unequal pay on star wars show ‘the acolyte’, ‘time to panic’—sudden $200 billion bitcoin, ethereum, solana, xrp and crypto price crash triggers ‘critical’ alarm.

“Chef Francis Mallmann's expertise in fire-based cooking techniques brings a uniquely elemental touch that beautifully complements the complex and tactile profiles of Dom Pérignon's vintages,” Quintana says. “His bold yet refined approach aligns with the intricate layers and textures of our champagnes, creating a harmonious blend of flavors that elevates the tasting experience."

Chef Francis Mallmann.

Exploring The Concept Of Tactility

Vincent Chaperon, the chef de cave (head winemaker) of Dom Pérignon, explains the concept behind the event.

"This experience allows us to celebrate the harmony found in opposing forces,” Chaperon said in a statement. “Guests will savor the convergence of exceptional culinary and champagne artistry, all set against a stunning backdrop."

Chaperon describes the chosen vintages as "paradoxes" that showcase the essence of "tactility," emphasizing how each sip invites guests to experience the interplay of contrasting elements, reflecting the pinnacle of Dom Pérignon's craftsmanship.

Dom Pérignon Vintage 2015 is a product of a remarkable year. Despite the intense sunshine and resulting dry soils, the wine exhibits both depth and a surprisingly tactile quality. This intriguing textural element seems to reflect the unique character of the year. On the palate, the wine offers a generous core of ripe fruit that gradually unfolds, revealing floral notes.

The Dom Pérignon Vintage 2006 has undergone a transformative journey, reaching its Plénitude 2 after seven more years of aging. This extended maturation period is crucial for champagne made by Dom Pérignon, allowing the wine to evolve organically and express itself in unexpected ways. Time refines the winemaker's creation, unlocking new dimensions of flavor and harmony. For the Vintage 2006, this translates to a remarkable increase in precision and elegance. Within the silent seclusion of the cellars, the lees have sculpted the wine into a streamlined version of itself. On the palate, a more pronounced saline tension emerges, while the bitterness takes on a subtle and delicate character, perfectly balancing the wine's inherent generosity.

The vintages will be available for sale to the general public in August.

An aerial shot of the Hamptons venue hosting the Dom Pérignon experience.

Inquiries for reservations for the Hamptons event can be made online , and a concierge will follow up. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Following the Hamptons event, Dom Pérignon plans to offer similar "Tactility" experiences with Chef Junghyun Park’s Atomix and Chef Daniel Boulud’s Daniel in New York City.

“Guests can look forward to unique adaptations that showcase the distinctive expression and culinary heritage of each chef,” Quintana says. “Subsequent events in Washington D.C. and Chicago, scheduled for September and October, will also celebrate Dom Pérignon Vintage 2015 and Vintage 2006 Plénitude 2 through the culinary excellence of distinguished chefs, tailoring each experience to their signature styles and creating dialogue with our two new vintages through the lens of touch and trace. Stay tuned."

Travel | Cincinnati Open: Watch top-tier tennis without traveling abroad or breaking the bank

Author

If you’re no more than an occasional tennis fan — the kind who tunes in for the finals at Wimbledon or the French Open — you’ve probably entertained idle dreams of jetting overseas to see Coco Gauff or Novak Djokovic play in person. Probably not in this lifetime, you realize.

But you can get the same cast of athletes on court just by driving a few hours from Chicago. One of the premier events of the professional tennis tour takes place each August just outside Cincinnati. Yes, Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati Open, formerly known as the Western & Southern Open, is among a tier of tournaments ranking just below the majors — the Australian Open, Wimbledon, the French Open and the U.S. Open — where virtually all the top players compete.

Last year, it featured not only Djokovic and Gauff, who hoisted the winners’ trophies, but 2023 Wimbledon champ Marketa Vondrousova, 2024 Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka, and American Taylor Fritz, who raised his profile by winning a title while being featured in the Netflix documentary series “Break Point.” Also there were this year’s French Open champions, Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz.

Except for those nursing injuries, the Cincinnati tournament has just about everybody who’s anybody — and everybody who will eventually be somebody.

This isn’t just a tournament. It’s more like a festival of tennis, with plenty of food, music and other diversions. It features a relaxed, intimate environment that brings fans close to the players at a price well below the cost of even the U.S. Open in New York — for which, by the way, Cincinnati offers a superb preview.

It takes place at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio, a drive of less than five hours from Chicago. The facility, about 22 miles north of downtown Cincinnati, features 21 courts, including a center court with a capacity of more than 11,000.

For most of the tournament, players can be seen practicing or competing on any of the fan-accessible courts from morning to night. This year’s main field includes 56 men and 56 women in the main singles draw. Next year, it will expand to 96, going from nine days to 12.

Go to an NFL or MLB game, and you’ll likely be far removed from the athletes. Here, you may literally bump into a top-ranked pro who is strolling between the locker room and the court. The Fan Zone offers autograph sessions and interviews with players, as well as comfy Adirondack chairs and giant TVs showing the action on the main courts.

With so many players taking part, the array of choices can be dizzying. Unlike some tournaments, this one features both men and women. But that’s just one of the choices facing spectators. There is also: Singles or doubles? The promising youngster or the proven veteran? The early rounds, when anything is possible, or the later ones, when match winners vie to keep advancing? Adding to the challenge is that these contrasting matches may be taking place simultaneously.

But you can have it all, and on the same day. One pleasure of tennis tournaments is the freedom for fans to move from one match to the next when the urge strikes. If a player who catches your interest is taking the court at the same time as another player you want to see, you can scratch both itches, watching one match for a while before migrating to the other. If a contest proves dull, you can seek out a livelier one.

Last year, it looked as if the 2024 tournament might be the last one in the heart of the Midwest. After the tournament was purchased by the financial services firm Beemok Capital, officials in North Carolina tried to lure the new owner to Charlotte by offering to build a lavish new tennis facility. But the fears were soon put to rest. In October, 2023 champions Djokovic and Gauff popped up on X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce: “Your wonderful tournament is staying in Cincinnati — and it’s going to be bigger and better forever.” Part of the deal is an investment of some $200 million to expand and upgrade the venue.

This year, the Open will follow the Summer Olympics in Paris, prompting organizers to delay the customary Saturday kickoff to Sunday, Aug. 11. The men’s and women’s singles championship matches are scheduled for Monday, Aug. 19.

The ticket options are fairly simple. You can buy a reserved seat in Center Court, which also grants you access to every other court. Or, on the day of the session you’re attending, if Center Court has sold out, you can go to the box office to buy one of a limited number of grounds passes, good anywhere but Center Court. Multiday packages sell out months in advance.

For day sessions, doors open at 10 or 11 a.m., depending on the day, and matches begin an hour later; for night matches, doors open at 5 or 6 p.m., also an hour before play commences. A separate ticket is required for each session. At most courts, seating is first come, first served.

There are plenty of hotels within a few minutes’ drive, including Marriott, Residence Inn, Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn. Parking is free at unpaved lots for ticket holders. Parking at the premium Diamond Lot is $200 per day.

The venue features an outdoor food court with such options as Cincinnati-style chili, sushi, salads, tacos, pizza, gourmet coffee and ice cream. There are several bars scattered around the venue, along with a wine garden. Food court lines can be long around meal times. One way to avoid them is to wait until a match begins on Center Court, drawing fans back in.

This being the Midwest in summer, fans should be prepared for blazing sun, heat and humidity. Shade is scarce in the stands, so hats, sunscreen and frequent hydration are recommended. A seat cushion is a good accessory, because many courtside seats are metal benches.

The bigger problem can be rain. Play is suspended at the onset of precipitation and doesn’t resume until the showers end, courts are dried off and players warm up, all of which takes time. If the forecast looks soggy, you will want to bring an umbrella, as the available shelter can be oversubscribed by the huddled masses. When rain goes on for hours, matches are postponed, sometimes until the following day. If a session is canceled, you may qualify for a rain check, but it’s usable only for the next year’s tournament.

If weather washes out a day session, you can seek out other Cincinnati attractions. The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center features exhibits on forced bondage, including what has been called “the only known surviving rural slave jail.” The Cincinnati Art Museum has an exhibition running till Sept. 8 that features four bronze figures sculpted by Auguste Rodin. The William Howard Taft National Historic Site is the birthplace and boyhood home of the 27th president and the 10th chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

But in good weather, you can give your full attention to tennis, admiring Djokovic’s bulletproof backhand, Gauff’s dazzling foot speed, Ons Jabeur’s confounding drop shots and more. And you may get a long look at a player you’ve never heard of who, in a year or two, could capture a Grand Slam title.

The Cincinnati Open offers an embarrassment of riches. If you’re a tennis fan, it’s hard to beat. If you’re not — well, it could make you one.
