As I write this RV Lifestyle blog post, Jennifer and I are starting to pack our RV for our next RV Adventure. And as we do so, with Bo giving us impatient barks and tail wags to hurry up so we can get going, we've been remembering some of the best times we've had over the past dozen years.

We'll first share a video overview of our favorite RV Adventures – so far – but we bet you'll want to learn more about each of our best RV adventures. So, we also included written summaries and more in-depth videos for each below.

From the Kansas prairies to the natural beauty of Glacier National Park, there is always an adventure to find when you are out looking for it. And, as you can see in the above video, we've been on some amazing RV adventures.

If you want to see those RV Adventures in more detail, here are the original, full-length videos with some of the backstory that made them so much fun…

1. The Minnesota Sled Dog Marathon in -21 Degree Cold!

When people ask us what's the coldest weather you have ever camped in, this favorite RV Adventure is at the top of the list. The actual temperature for this weekend in the wilds of Northern Minnesota along the Northshore of Lake Superior was -21F. If you factored in the wind chill, it was about -50.

But we stayed snug and warm in the RV, sleeping in the woods near the tiny town of Finland, MN, where at daybreak, serenaded by a pack of wolves, we videotaped the teams they were leading the race. 

2. The Gator Ranch and Swamp Ride in Mississippi

This RV Adventure was actually a Harvest Host overnight in Mississippi and turned out to be one of the best photoshoots I've had with real gators, up close and personal. A raised dock-type boardwalk let us walk right over massive alligators sunning themselves, swimming, or giving Bo the evil eye as he accompanied us on this “gator stroll.”

Afterward, we took an exhilarating swamp boat ride, Jennifer got to hold a two-foot-long gator and the locals entertained us with stories about when a hurricane flooded the swamp and the gators made their way out to US Highway 98.

We slept in the RV in the parking lot, and they warned us not to do too much exploring after dark because there were a lot of “free-range gators” thereabouts.

3. The Oregon Trail Covered Wagon Adventure in Wyoming 

This RV Adventure had us riding by horseback and covered wagon right next to the still-visible wagon ruts made by the original Oregon Trail settlers from 1830-1840. 

Our host was Morris Carter, who built wagons that replicated those used by the pioneers. Carter also actually made the 2,600-mile wagon train trip himself, from its start in Independence, Mo. to the final destination in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.

After taking us on the trail, he let us go back and get our RV and spend the night in it next to where his wagon tour camped for the night. One of my favorite photos was of the RV next to the wagons and the Indian TeePees used for his guests.

4. The Underground Mine Tour in Arizona 

This was such a surprise. We saw a small sign pointing off a two-lane Arizona highway about a mining museum and, on a whim,  decided to take it.

Ten miles down the bumpy, dusty desert road, we came on a wonderfully restored gold and silver mining town. We met the owner, whose property has several abandoned mines and he took us deep underground where he showed us a wall of fantastic colors.

And he showed us to some old Levis and jeans left behind by the miners over a century ago – original clothing that is worth tens of thousands of dollars.

5. Climbing Quartzsite Mountain

The Arizona desert community of Quartzsite draws tens of thousands of RVers each winter, most of whom boondock in the desert within sight of the big Q painted on the rocky rise that everyone around here calls “Mountain,” for Quartzsite Mountain.

It's really not a mountain, just a steep hill of a couple of hundred feet. But climbing it is a sort of rite of passage for those who come to Quartzsite and thus, on a beautiful late January day, that's what Jennifer and I did.

We scoffed at how easy we thought it would be.

We ended up huffing and puffing up at the top as we took the obligatory selfies next to the big flag mounted up there overlooking all the desert campers. It was a terrific way to spend a few hours in the desert and one of those unexpected little RV Adventures that makes for great memories.

6. The Kansas Prairie Roundup & Cowboy RV Adventure

This is one of those RV Adventures that brings a smile whenever we hear the word “Kansas.” We spent a long weekend home on the range here with a bunch of our RVing friends on a 7,000 acre working cattle ranch in the heart of the Flinthills region of Kansas and the largest remaining expanse of tall grass prairie in all of North America.

It’s a marvelous place filled with cowboy culture and grand adventures.

We went hiking, toured the area, stargazed, took in the local music scene, and learned about the amazing prairie ecosystem. 

We actually got to ride horses right out among the longhorns with the real cowboys

7. Mississippi River Canoeing

This RV Adventure had me paddling a handmade custom canoe down the Mississippi River with a former hospital CEO who took his early retirement to open a handmade canoe company along the mighty river.

The canoes were works of art, and we so enjoyed seeing how beautifully they were constructed. But the paddle in the Mississippi? One of our all-time favorite RV adventures.

This story reminded us that you're never too old to start something new!

8. White Water Rafting & Zipline in North Carolina 

Speaking of water, our white water rafting trip on North Carolina's Nantahala River was another one of those RV Adventures that seemed larger than life. The air was 90 degrees and dripping with humidity.

The river water was 52 degrees… and if you rode one of the rafts down it, you can count on dripping that water, too.

But there was also an awesome zip line ride, a visit to a road that leads nowhere, a train ride and an exciting trip on a switchback road called the Tail of the Dragon.

9. A Herd of Bison Crossing the Yellowstone River 

Sometimes, a great RV Adventure is not so much what you do as what you see. Jennifer and I visit Yellowstone National Park at least once every year.

We love the park, and we especially love the iconic bison that roam freely.

But when I think back about Yellowstone, one of the most breathtakingly beautiful experiences I ever had was at sunset on a perfect summer day when I got to watch a huge herd of bison swim across the Yellowstone River.

10. The Bear & Moose Encounter at Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park is also a favorite. In terms of sheer drama with its mountain peaks and gorgeous scenery, Glacier is hard to beat. It is also our favorite place for wildlife photography.

On one of our gatherings out there, Jennifer and I were leading a hike along a lakeshore when we came across a huge bear, just 15 yards off the trail. The bear was oblivious to us because it was stalking a newborn moose calf. The moose's mother, seeing the approaching bear, made a choice to come towards us for protection. We were slowly backing away. A stalking bear on one side and a frightened Mama Moose and her baby on the other.

For several long minutes, the moose and her calf stood no more than ten feet away, warily watching the bear. The bear then noticed us. We had no way to go. Finally, with a look of disgust, the bear turned away and the Mama Moose and her calf moved past all of us,

I swear the baby moose looked at one of our hikers and said, “Thank you,” before skedaddling off down the trail into the woods – far from the bear.

I guess I missed the boat. The Flying W ranch is probably less than 100 miles from Lawrence Ks where my daughter lives. I was hunkering down there this summer. Unfortunately, the Flying W ranch experience is a victim of Covid 19, as they have decided to take a permanent break from Guest Ranch Operations. I’ll have to try some of your other adventures.

Today we’re sharing the 10 most popular of ALL TIME.

These video range from luxurious to insane. However, the commonality is that they all have to do with RV life!

Let’s dive in.

1. Will Smith’s Huge RV (16 Million Views)

Many celebrities partake in the RV lifestyle. None do it quite like Will Smith. This RV video takes you on a tour of his not-so-humble-home-on-wheels.

2. Double Decker Bus Becomes Luxury RV (14 Million Views)

In this RV video we see the transformation of a double decker bus turn into a luxury RV. From the living area to the interior guts, this video walks you through its 20 steps of upgrades..

3. Aquatic Floating RV (8.3 Million Views)

Believe it or not, this isn’t a spoof. I had to watch it multiple times to make sure I wasn’t being fooled! You gotta see this amphibious RV.

4. Family of 9 Full Time RV Travel (5.9 Million Views)

This RV video has been viewed almost 6 million times. People must be interested to see what RV life with 9 people looks like! Additionally, they probably want to see if this family is utterly insane.

BuzzFeed has the ability to reach a large audience! In this video they share what RV life looks like. Even though it’s not very interesting to the initiated, this RV video gives the general public a glimpse into the lifestyle.

It’s no surprise, people like to see what an expensive RV looks like. This multimillion dollar coach is among the most expensive you can buy. Tiny Home Tours produced this video.

8. Japanese RV Tour (3.4 Million Views)

If you’re curious what RVs look like on the other side of the world, this video is for you! You get to see the shape of this RV before the renovation. While many characteristics are similar to USA RVs, many are not!

5 Things To Look For During An RV Video Tour

With the need for social distancing, shopping for a new RV has become a little trickier over the last few months. However, it’s a good thing that so many RV dealers, private sellers, and manufacturers are now offering online tours. In fact, they are upping their game with 360-degree views, high-quality video tours, drone footage, and interactive walkthrough tours.

For example, check out the wonderful video introduction by Alexandria Camping Centre in Canada. They are focusing their videos as custom tours for each customer. Their walkthroughs have high-quality video production and show great detail of some beautiful rigs, all while being closed for safety purposes.

Another good example of some excellent video tours are the ones created by Traveling Robert. He films tours of many types of rigs at various RV shows and discusses many of the small details. Do It Yourself RV has featured Robert and his video tips in a previous post .

Now that online shopping is one of the most important ways to shop for anything, it’s also important to get as much as you can out of an RV online tour. If you are in the market for a new or used RV, contacting the dealer or the current owner for a video or high-quality photo tour is necessary. Here are a few things to look for during one of these virtual tours.

1. Is the video absolutely thorough?

If you are going to be purchasing an RV using online information, you will want to have the most complete tour as possible. Make sure the video or online tour you are watching goes into every location of the rig.

This includes views of inside the cabinets and closets, shots of the under storage compartments, and footage of the underbelly and roof. You will also want to see under all the sinks, any plumbing and electrical components, and underneath all the seating and bedding.

During these tours, you will want to look out for any rot or damage, unusable areas, potential trouble spots, or spaces that need a makeover.

2. Get a separate engine tour

If you are buying a motorized Class A, B, or C RV or a van or other conversion, make sure the dealer or owner does a separate full tour of the engine.

It may be difficult to get a complete view of what exactly is going on under the hood, but this is your chance to see any major wear and tear on belts or battery connectors. It’s a good indicator of how well the camper has been taken care of.

In addition, make sure that the video tour includes footage of the engine running as well as the dealer pushing on the gas and brakes. Any additional footage should show the engine dashboard with its mileage, indicators, and complete setup.

3. Seek out the systems

What makes an RV online tour different from a tour of a regular vehicle is its more robust systems. This includes electrical, plumbing, solar, and waste systems. Each video or photo tour should also demonstrate how each of the systems work.

There should be an introduction to the control panel and indicators that show water levels, battery, and propane levels. The video should show a flowing faucet, a flushing toilet, a running refrigerator, and tests of the A/C and heating units.

If the RV has solar panels , there should be a tour of each component including the battery bank, inverter, and all connectors. The solar control panel should also be shown while the vehicle is in the sun and hopefully gathering power.

4. Get the lay of the layout

One way to get a better idea of the layout and space of an RV is to fill it with people. A helpful video tour should show people of various sizes and heights using the space.

Having models using the kitchen appliances can show ceiling and countertop height. Seeing people lying down in the bed, bunks, and couches can show size and ease of accessibility. Look for or request footage of people stepping out of doors, opening windows, sitting in the cockpit, and utilizing utility areas. There should also be footage of someone towing the trailer or driving the Class B.

5. Ask your questions via video

If a manufacturer, dealer, or seller is doing a good job with their tours, they will also make themselves available quickly for any questions. These days, the questions should be asked over the web as well.

Make sure the seller can use conference or chat software such as Zoom , Google Hangouts , or FaceTime . In addition, make sure you have your questions ready for them. The seller should also have the ability to give another detailed video of a particular part of the RV or a particular concern you may have.

1. The Mom Trotter

These black full-time RV adventurers sold everything to travel as a family. Karen (founder of  Black Kids Do Travel ) created The Mom Trotter to share RV budget travel tips, homeschooling life, parenting as well as to connect with other families following the same path as her family. They are currently traveling the USA full time in an RV and love it. 

2. You, Me, & the RV  

This fast growing channel features Phil & Stacy Farley. Well liked and well respected veterans of the armed services, new RV owners will appreciate their frankness and honesty when reporting on their experiences. Their videos are lively with a touch of dry humor, and loaded with great information.

Marc and Julie Bennett are known almost as much for their book, Living the RV LIFE , as they are their videos. New RV owners will find that after reading the book, you’ll have a hunger to see these authors in action. If you are looking for someone dedicated to RVing, Marc and Julie just bought a second RV!

My name is Adrian "AC" Chavarria and I am an RV Sales Professional with Transwest Truck Trailer RV.  I have had the pleasure of working with Transwest for about 8 years now and look forward to many more. 

When I started with Transwest I didn't have any sales experience because I spent my previous 20 years working with at-risk children and families in New Mexico.  I still remember my initial interview with Transwest during which the GM asked me "How will you handle the pressure of commission sales?"  I replied by saying "That isn't pressure. Talking someone out of hurting themselves is pressure, this should be easy." Looking back over the past 8 years, I can honestly say it hasn't been as easy as I thought it would be. However, I have been quite successful because I've stuck to the same principals I used when working with children and families.  I believe in being patient, honest, fair, and having good communication. I tell customers everything I know about the coach they are buying so that they have all the information necessary to make a sound decision.

One of my proudest sales accomplishments was selling to a guy who I worked with for almost 3 years before buying. I am obviously not a high-pressure salesman and never will be because I understand that buying an RV is a big decision.  I believe in doing all I can to help my customers before and after their purchase.  It's the least I can do for someone who has put their trust in me.  I can't control what the coach does after it leaves here but I can control how I respond. 

I always have my cell phone with me and if I can't answer when a call comes in, I do my best to return it within the hour.

Fleetwood RV Creates Series of Factory Tour Videos

REV Recreation Group brand  Fleetwood RV  created a series of five videos showcasing how its luxury motorhomes are made at its 480,000-square-foot manufacturing headquarters in Decatur, Ind. The exclusive, behind-the-scenes video tours offer a peek into a few of the steps involved in manufacturing a Class A motorhome. The series introduces engineers, managers, welders and technicians who design, manufacture and assemble various elements of a Fleetwood RV.

The factory tour videos deliver a top-to-bottom look at Fleetwood RV and cover the foundation, lamination process, cabinet shop, assembly and paint process, the company said.

Fleetwood RV is an established brand in the motorhome industry. One of its most popular models, the Bounder, is celebrating its 35 th  anniversary in 2021.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Launch North American Tour: Set List, Video

Red Hot Chili Peppers launched their 2024 Unlimited Love North American tour on Tuesday night in Ridgefield, Washington.

The band played several of their best-known hits — “Scar Tissue,” “Californication,” “By the Way” and others — as well as song selections from more recent albums, like “Whatchu Thinkin,'” “Black Summer” and “Eddie.” A cover of Funkadelic ‘s “What Is Soul?” was also included.

Where Are Red Hot Chili Peppers Heading Next?

Tuesday night’s concert marked RHCP’s seventh show of 2024, but they have a busy couple months ahead. Their next performance is scheduled for May 31 at the Gorge Ampitheatre, also located in Washington state.

From there, they’ll travel down to their home state of California and then head westward for shows in Florida, Ohio, Ontario and more, concluding the tour on July 30 in St. Louis, Missouri.

The title of this year’s tour comes from the first of RHCP’s two 2022 albums, Unlimited Love , which was followed by Return of the Dream Canteen . Both were produced by Rick Rubin .

“When all was said and done, our moody love for each other and the magic of music had gifted us with more songs than we knew what to do with,” the band said in a statement at the time. “Well we figured it out. Two double albums released back to back. The second of which is easily as meaningful as the first or should that be reversed.”
