With the help of an expert guide, you and your group of 10 people or less will explore the waters near Isla Contoy, Isla Holbox, and Isla Mujeres. Once you’ve spotted a pod, put on your snorkel gear and plunge into the clear water to swim alongside these fascinating fish while also keeping an eye out for dolphins, manta rays, and turtles. You’ll likely have two jumps on the trip, and more if time permits. You’ll then sail to a white-sand beach on Isla Mujeres, where there will be time to swim and sunbathe before a Mexican lunch is served. Back on the boat, your onboard biologist will explain more about local marine life and unique bird species. From here, you’ll return to land and climb aboard an army truck to travel through the ancient Mayan jungle toward a secret cenote. At this final stop, you’ll glide down another zip line and plunge into the turquoise water below. Enjoy a snack in the tree hut before returning to Cancun. Downsides? Extra charges for lockers and bottled water.

This tour starts from Cancun’s marina, where you’ll greet your guide and head for “Silent Evolution,” by British artist Jason DeCaires. You’ll then watch a snorkeling demonstration before donning your equipment and plunging into the water to explore the exhibit. Learn how the artist sculpted the figures from pH neutral clay, making it safe for the abundance of marine life thriving among the statues. Snacks are also served on the boat. Some previous guests felt that they’d be able to get closer to the art while swimming (based on pictures they’d seen). Also keep in mind that the water can get choppy at times (your guide will do his or her best to ensure that the ride is mostly serene).

Then, you’ll gear up and snorkel in Akumal Bay, while keeping an eye out for tropical fish, turtles, and possibly manta rays in the reef. This tour is not recommended for those with medical conditions or folks who have trouble climbing steps. Additionally, while children are allowed, they do need to know how to swim and must be above the age of four.

8. Horseback Riding Near Cancun

Located about 40 minutes outside of the city, this stable of 100 horses has options suitable for every level of rider (including instructions for beginners). Participants will set out on the trail through the jungle and onto the nearby beach. The tour lasts about two hours, then you’ll return to the ranch for Mexican snacks (alcoholic drinks are available for purchase). You’ll also have the option of taking a dip in the on-site swimming pool, or spending more time with some of the ranch’s farm animals before returning to your hotel. Some previous guests wished they had more time to ride on the beach, as this tends to be the shortest section on the trail.

In fact, each of the four cenotes represents a different element — earth, water, fire and air — and you’ll either rappel, kayak, slide, cliff jump, swim, or snorkel in them. There are plenty of interesting landscapes, aquatic animals, and beautiful rock formations to check out as well. Later in the day, a nice picnic lunch is accompanied by beer, water, wine, and coffee. Previous guests said the tour was well-managed, with the perfect amount of time spent at each cenote.

First, you’ll meet at a pre-arranged location on the Cancun coast and then climb aboard an awaiting boat. Your instructor will deliver an orientation session, and once you feel confident, they’ll buckle you into the parasail. You’ll rise 350 feet above the ocean, scoring views of the nearby tropical forests, Isla Mujeres, and the Hotel Zone (alternatively, you can choose views of the Nichupte Lagoon) before returning safely to shore. However, be prepared for extra costs like a per-person docking fee.

Wouldn’t refund me because we had to cancel because of a sick person.

Great experience. Professional! Would definitely recommend.

Asked the tour guide about putting on pants brought with for ATV rode and was told not necessary. Should wear socks and pants even though tour guide says shorts and water shoes are fine. When told tour guide the ATV was burning leg was not taken seriously. Ended up with what are considered stage 1 level 2 burns (blistered and will leave scarring) the heat shield was not working properly. Had to seek medical attention for burns. Foot rests were also broken on ATV. With the exception of the issues wih ATV and injury had fun ziplining and swimming in cenote. Happy Tours called due to another reason and when told the Happy Tours caller about the burn and havig to seek medical attention got ignored.

I use Happy tours for all of my transportation needs .Now that they book excursions, even better. Had no issues booking tours on their website. Very simple and straightforward.

Happy tours was great for booking. No issues. Any questions all you have to do is call and they will help you no problems. Definitely use their service again.

First, have correct snorkel vests. Life jacket is not good for snorkeling. Everything was just to rushed. Crew was great. And also platinum is not worth the xtra money. Other tours did exactly what we did. Just a few less people.

Overall great experience; they showed up right on time to pick us from and to the airport.

This is an early morning excursion to Chichen Itza, which is an ancient Mayan site.

The tour organized by Amigo Tours will last for 12 hours and you will be taken around the site and briefed of its history and culture.

Included in the tour is also a lunch buffet before and after which (preferably before, so you can work up an appetite) you can take a dip in the cenotes, a natural sinkhole formation that the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico is famous for.

I would highly recommend carrying some medicine to prevent motion sickness if you are prone to that.

You may also want to inquire about rash guards as the operators are likely to discourage you from wearing sunscreen in the water in order to protect the reefs and local marine life.

This is a protected natural reserve and not too many visitors are allowed per day.

If you make a reservation early on, you and your family can be one of the 200 people that are allowed to visit the island everyday.

This preserved area offers some of the most stunning sights that nature can provide.

You will be able to spot a variety of different birds and also a vibrant marine life if you decide to snorkel.

On the way back to Cancun, you will also make a stop at Isla Mujeres, another stunning slice of nature in the Carribean Sea.

From the preliminary research I have conducted, I find that the reviews indicate this is a good tour for young adults, couples and groups of friends.

If you are traveling with a baby or young kids, you may find the atmosphere a bit too boisterous.

The Yucatanean jungle opens its arms to tourists who want to experience the wildlife in the darkness and observe (quietly and respectfully), animals in their natural habitat.

This is a 7-hour tour that takes you through the forest.

You can swim in the underground river systems, zipline through the tropical forest and enjoy the night sky in complete silence but for the sounds of the jungle.

The tour includes an all-you-can-eat buffet (though I would suggest you take it easy because you will have a long night of action ahead of you).

Comparing excursions: which one is right for you.

Choosing the ideal excursion for your Cancun getaway is child’s play.

Consider the pros and cons of each activity, and then think of your preferences, such as your budget.

But it would be better if the tour was longer.

Mexico is our family’s go-to vacation spot, and Cancun is the city we’ve most visited.

To ensure that my reviews, tips, and experiences were accurate and more detailed, I asked for insights from other travelers and researched the activities comprehensively.

• Safety: I use this to evaluate safety. Is the staff trained for emergencies? Are there easily accessible first aid kits? Are the safety protocols properly explained and strictly followed? These are the factors I consider when assessing safety. 
• Educational Value: This is used to evaluate the educational value of every tour. Is it enriching and educational? Are there fun and engaging learning activities for kids? Are there opportunities to experience and learn about the area’s history, culture, and traditions? I consider these factors when rating educational value.  
• Fun Factor: I use this criterion to evaluate the fun factor of the excursion. Did the previous participants enjoy this excursion? Does it feature thrilling and exciting activities or locations? Are there opportunities to participate in one-of-a-kind experiences? I ask myself these questions when assessing the fun factor. 
• Convenience: I use this to assess the convenience of each option. Do they provide complimentary shuttle services? Is it easily accessible by public transportation? Are the tour schedules flexible? These are the factors I consider when rating this criterion.
