Tour Edge Exotics C723 Driver Review

The golf bandit.

Tour Edge Exotics C723 Driver

If you want a forgiving and extremely adjustable driver, you’re in the right place. Today we’ll review the new Tour Edge Exotics C723 driver and show how it’s a massive upgrade from the previous 722.

As you probably know, your driver is one of the most important clubs in the bag. But a ton of amateur golfers fear their driver and one of the main reasons is that it might not suit your swing.

This is why it’s so important to buy a club that you can adjust to fit your ideal shot shape and trajectory.

Once you have the right driver, it makes golf a lot easier. Let’s dive in to see how this Tour Edge driver can transform your long game.

Tour Edge Exotics Driver Price and Specs

The Tour Edge Exotics have two great drivers with the C723 and E723.

The C series is geared toward better golfers who want lower spin to offset faster swing speeds. While the E series is ultra forgiving and meant for everyday golfers – both clubs have tons of adjustability to finely tune it to your swing speed.

These new drivers are available in multiple lofts; 8 , 9, 10.5, and 12 degrees . Plus, as you’ll see in this review, you can adjust the driver loft with ease.

The 8-degree option is only in the C series and the 10.5 is the only option for left-handed golfers. They do make a women’s version as well (same club, just one inch shorter).

To further customize this club to your unique swing, you have multiple shafts to choose from.

  • Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 : This 65-gram graphite shaft has a mid-launch profile and is available in R, S, or X flex. The weight doesn’t change with flex and has a mid-launch profile which is great for everyday golfers.
  • Project X HZRDUS Black Gen 4 : This 60-gram shaft has less torque and is geared toward faster swinging golfers. The shaft is available in R, S, or X flex with a very low launch profile.

All Tour Edge drivers come with a Lamkin Crossline 360 grip. The price for these drivers is $449 and don’t typically offer different upgraded shafts like other brands.

Tour Edge Exotics C723 Driver Review

We’ll focus primarily on the C723 in this review but also touch on the differences between the E723 as well.

Looks and Feel

It’s hard to beat the look and feel of the C723 driver. From any angle this driver looks great and it’s hard to ignore all the customization options on this club.

It feels and sounds great too. It’s a louder noise than some drivers but definitely not too much either. You can definitely tell from the sound when you hit one in the sweet spot.

Performance

What makes this driver truly perform like very few others is the insane adjustability in the “fine-tuning system.”

“A two-tier Front/Back Weight System with the back weight on a new sliding track is employed in the C723 Driver that allows for both extreme M.O.I. and flight/spin rate manipulation.”

This driver comes with a 5-gram weight in the front and a 15-gram weight in the back. You can then adjust the weights if you want to alter the RPM by 300 to match your swing.

Additionally, you can change the MOI (making it more forgiving) – not to mention it is way more forgiving than the previous C design. As you slide the weight you can change the direction of the ball flight up to seven yards as well.

For example, if you slide the weight to the draw position, your ball flight would adjust seven yards to the left for a right-handed golfer. This is the type of customization that players love as you can test out different settings to see what works best for your game.

Technology and Features

While the head has tons of adjustability, it also has a lot of other great technology to make it a top driver in 2023. First up is the 360 ridgeback technology which makes the face thinner for more ball speed and total distance.

“This Ridgeback spine and now 360-degree activation acts as a brace for the entire clubhead to produce more power across the entire face, including the extreme perimeters. The C723 Ridgeback design is 15% thinner than the previous C722 model, while offering greater structural support properties.”

Like a lot of their brands, Tour Edge switched from titanium to carbon for even more benefits. It has 5% more carbon than the previous model and saves a ton of weight.

“The addition of Quad Carbon Tech saves considerable weight in the clubhead, allowing for the 360-degree Ridgeback design, an increase in MOI, greater face flex in the heel and toe areas so off-center hits achieve greater power.”

By using this material they can redistribute the weight and improve CG for better mishits!

There are two new drivers from Tour Edge – unlike other brands where there are three or four different heads. My guess is that since the driver is so adjustable they didn’t need the extra option(s). While we’ve covered the C723 extensively here is the other alternative.

Tour Edge E723 Driver

The E723 has a lot of the same benefits as the C723 but is even more forgiving and made for the everyday golfer. It doesn’t have quite as much adjustability but it does have a flight tuning system to adjust the MOI. You can slide the weight on the adjustable track for up to 10 yards of directional flight.

For example, if you slide the weight to the fade position, your flight will be 10 yards to the right and vice versa for a draw. It’s also more forgiving than the C723 and has a higher ball flight too.

It still has the 360 ridgeback technology for superior sound and feel, quad carbon technology for extra forgiveness, and a diamond face. The diamond face helps produce faster ball speeds across the face so even your mishits still go a long way.

Lastly, this driver has an option for 12 degrees (no 8-degree option like the C723) and two different shafts. You can choose from the Air Speeder (super lightweight, 40 grams) or the Tensei AV Blue 65 gram shaft (R, S, or X flex).

Pros & Cons

  • Big upgrade from the C722.
  • Three loft and two stock shafts.
  • One of the most adjustable drivers in 2023.
  • Has a more forgiving option with the E723 and still has adjustability.
  • Not much to say here. This club sounds good, looks good, and allows you to fine tune as much as any other driver from top brands.

Alternate Driver Options

Not sure if the Tour Edge driver is the one for your game? Here are a few alternative drivers that might work out better.

Callaway Paradym

Callaway has some of the best drivers on the market and the Paradym is a game-changer. The guys on the PGA Tour are dominating with it early in the 2023 season and there are three models to fit any type of golfer.

Lower handicaps will enjoy the benefits of the triple diamond thanks to a smaller head and lower spin. While everyday golfers will like the normal or the X version which helps straighten out slices. These clubs are made with forged carbon (like the Tour Edge) and are some of the longest clubs in golf.

Titleist TSR Drivers

The Titleist drivers are also a top pick for 2023 and about the same price point. If you want the most adjustable version make sure to opt for the TSR3 which has a sliding weight track like this Tour Edge driver. It also has an adjustable hosel to tweak the loft and lie angle too.

Click here to read our full review now.

While Tour Edge might not be a huge name like Titleist or TaylorMade, their new driver is incredible. It’s no doubt worth the money thanks to the design and adjustability features as it makes it easy to fit your swing.

If you want even more forgiveness and higher launch, go with the E723. Finally, don’t forget to find the right loft and shaft as there are multiple options available.

Tour Edge C522 Driver Review

Tour Edge doesn't get the credit it deserves for its R&D efforts and the highly functional, highly affordable C522 driver is another great product from the underappreciated company. From a performance standpoint, the C522 is long, forgiving, and consistent, and it's one of the best values in golf in any category at its price point.

Impressive forgiveness on off-center strikes

Extremely consistent in terms of flight and distance

Classic shaping, premium look

Incredible value at its price

No adjustability

Limited shaft options to choose from

Why you can trust Golf Monthly Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .

So I’ll just come right out and say it. I like Tour Edge. I like the company’s equipment from a technology and performance standpoint, and I appreciate their consistent, unwavering approach to carving out a spot in the marketplace. There have been times, however, where keeping up with all of the various products that the company offered was a difficult task, and navigating their website in years past posed challenges.

But Tour Edge has rectified that issue as well by simplifying their product offerings into two categories, the Exotics category, which are their premium products, and the Hot Launch category, which are their more entry level, budget-friendly offerings. For 2022, Exotics products have been labeled as the 722 series and Hot Launch products as the 522 series. It’s a better system and one that I’m sure has been effective with Tour Edge's growing consumer base.

I recently had the chance to test the C522 driver from Tour Edge , which checks in at a retail price of just $249, which is about as low as you’re going to see for a new driver from an established golf manufacturer. And to be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect. After all, with other top drivers checking in at prices ranging from roughly $450 to $600, including the Tour Edge C722 and E722 , could the C522 driver really be competitive from a performance standpoint? That answer is a resounding yes.

Tour Edge C522 Driver

The Tour Edge C522 driver has a large, confidence-inspiring profile but a traditional rounded shape.

I did all of my testing of the C522 driver at Atlanta National Golf Club. I spent one day hitting only drivers on the course with the C522, a 2017 Callaway Epic Sub Zero, which is my current gamer, and the Mizuno ST-Z 220 , which I have been experimenting with in recent weeks, to see how they compared in terms of sound, feel, distance, and forgiveness. All three drivers were tested at 10.5 degrees of loft and at a length of 45 inches. I then played two full rounds with the 522 to see how it would fare in scoring situations. The result of those sessions was an incredible showing from the C522, as it earned just the third 5-star rating that I’ve handed out since joining Golf Monthly.

I’ll start with the look of the C522. The overall profile is on the larger side, inspiring confidence at address, but the shaping is more traditional, best described as a rounded, pear shape, which appealed to my eye. The most distinguishing feature was probably the topline of the driver, which was very straight. As a comparison, the closest I can come up with from recent years would be the Titleist TS2 in that regard. The C522 also doesn’t look like a budget driver. From an aesthetics standpoint, it has a simple yet premium appearance.

From a sound and feel standpoint, the C522 is quite a bit louder than the two drivers I tested it against, which wasn’t a surprise. The Epic and the ST-Z 220 both have carbon crowns and deliver a more muted impact sound, which is what I prefer. The C522, on the other hand, is all titanium. And while it was louder, it wasn’t Nike Sasquatch loud, rather more in line with what you might expect from many Ping drivers.

Tour Edge C522 driver face

The C522 delivered the forgiveness that was expected but exceeded expectations in terms of distance.

In terms of performance, I fully expected the C522 to provide a high level of forgiveness. Tour Edge went to great lengths to position weight low and deep in the clubhead to increase MOI, including a fixed weight at the rear of the sole. That technology delivered, as the C522 was extremely playable on mis-hits, ranking easily as one of the most forgiving drivers I’ve tested in 2022. It also performed especially well in terms of distance and direction on shots that were hit low on the face, which is my most common miss.

Where the C522 exceeded all expectations was in terms of distance. I expected a high, spinny ball flight that would find fairways but not measure up in terms of yardage. It didn’t take long, however, to find out that such an assessment would be off base. When I was comparing drivers on the course, I started on No. 5 at my club. Using Titleist Pro V1x golf balls , I hit three shots with each driver, and the C522 produced the longest shot of the nine I hit off that tee. As the day progressed and I continued that pattern, the C522 wasn’t always the longest, but it was at times and it was always competitive.

The C522 impressed as well from a distance standpoint during the rounds I played, as I typically found myself in spots on the course where I most usually end up off the tee. I also found that the ball flight the C522 produced was very consistent, on the higher side with just a slight draw. That said, I was able to flight the ball down if I wanted to and work it the other direction if needed. And as mentioned earlier, finding fairways was never a concern.

Tour Edge C522 Driver

The C522 driver is one of the best values in golf regardless of category.

While it scored high marks for me, there are a few things that should be noted about the C522 driver. It does not have an adjustable hosel and the lone stock shaft offering is the lightweight Mitsubishi Fubuki HL, which ranges in weight from 45 to 55 grams degrees depending on flex. I swing the driver at about 100 mph and don’t put a lot of stress on the shaft so I can play a lighter shaft without many issues, but for high-speed players the Fubuki HL shaft probably won't be a great fit. I do believe, however, that this driver will fit the vast majority of golfers just fine.

In summary, I couldn’t have been more impressed with the C522 driver. That Tour Edge can deliver this kind of performance at $249 is a testament to the company, and this is a great option for players who might be new to the game or experienced golfers who are looking for exceptional performance in what is essentially a budget driver . I’m certainly not saying that the C522 is the best driver on the market right now, but at its price point if there’s anything even close I’d have to see it to believe it.

Tour Edge HL4 Driver Review

More in reviews:.

tour edge 12 degree driver

50 Words or Less

The Tour Edge HL4 driver offers golfers huge value.  Great forgiveness.  Light and easy to hit.  Low spin.  Custom fitting options at $200.

Introduction

As other companies push the prices of their drivers well past the $500 threshold, Tour Edge is going the other way.  Their HL4 line includes a driver that retails for $199…with custom fitting!

It’s natural to be skeptical of the performance at a price like that, so we tested it to see where it stands among today’s best drivers.

Setting the Tour Edge HL4 driver down, the first thing I noticed was how long the head is.  It’s like a mini torpedo setting up to nuke the golf ball.  The shape skews slightly toward the heel, but the alignment aid is small and centered.

When I looked at the driver face on, I was struck by the asymmetry of the hitting surface .  The heel is very full, where the toe side gets slimmer and favors the crown.  My guess is that this design is meant to accommodate the most common misses: high toe and low heel.

Finally, I really like the sole design .  Often, lower priced clubs look like lower priced clubs.  This sole has a premium finish and clean branding, no garish colors or design.  Kudos to Tour Edge.

Sound & Feel

The Hot Launch 4 makes a big impression with its impact sound.  You’ll hear a loud metallic “crack” as the ball rockets away.  Substantial misses will be met with a quieter sound, but shots near the center sound quite similar.

Despite being a large, stable head, there is good feedback through the hands.  After just a short time, I was able to easily locate all my shots.

tour edge 12 degree driver

Performance

After my recent experience with the HL4 fairway wood (review HERE ), my expectations for the HL4 driver were quite high.  This club did not disappoint.

From the first range session, I could see that the Hot Launch 4 was consistent .  The stock UST Mamiya was not a great fit for me, but that gave the head’s forgiveness a chance to shine.  My ball speed was steady from shot to shot even when I wasn’t hitting it flush.  This is the result of the HL4’s Variable Face Thickness and Titanium Cup Face.

The other thing that was very consistent was the high launch and low spin .  This head has a very deep center of gravity, so it wants to put the ball onto high trajectories.  With the low spin, drives tend to flatten out after initial launch, carry, and then run out.  Being a low spin player, I even saw a few range balls knuckle from lack of spin when I hit a draw.

The Tour Edge HL4 driver comes in two varieties .  The straight neck , seen here, comes in lofts of 9.5, 10.5, and 12 degrees.  For those that need help fighting a slice, there is an offset model available in 10.5, 12, and 13.5 degrees.

Tour Edge had already set a very high bar for value with their Exotics EXS driver (review HERE ), but they may have raised it even higher with the HL4 driver.  With a number of custom fitting options and a price of $199, this is a must try for any golfer who wants to get the most yards per dollar.

Thanks for the review, Matt. It’s nice to see a Driver can perform without having to fork over what is now approaching and exceeding $ 500 per club. You chose your words carefully. While complimenting the Driver’s performance (consistency and “runout”) , you fell short of saying it was as long as your gamer or other “premium” Drivers in the category. Generally speaking, how did it stack up length-wise?

' src=

The shaft in the HL4 driver is not an ideal fit for me, so it was short of my PING. With a better fit shaft, I think it could go head to head with more expensive drivers.

' src=

Tour Edge is on a roll. The HL driver is a good looking club and the line’s pricing and fitting options should give other club makers something to think about.

' src=

interested in tour edge hl4 driver. price to australia. 10.5, regular flex,

I would suggest contacting Tour Edge or a Tour Edge distributor.

' src=

How does one determine if they are a low spin or high spin player? When I’m in a shaft that fits me, my driver spin is between 2000-2300 with club head speed around 110 and ball speed around 160. If I have a shaft that is too soft it’s around 4000. Is there a stock flex you should hit and get numbers with to figure out if you are low, high, medium?

I would work with a fitter to try a variety of shafts and see where my average spin is. Seems like you’re mid/high spin based on what you said here.

' src=

Hi, do they offer any other shafts?

To my knowledge, there’s only one stock shaft option.

' src=

Would you recommend the HL4 or the EXS driver for a mid handicapper. Right now there is only about a $49 difference in price. How do they compare as far as forgiveness

For a $49 difference, I would go for the EXS primarily on the quality of the shaft in the EXS. Forgiveness is pretty close, both are very good.

Tour Edge Hot Launch E523 Driver

Description.

Custom is no longer available for this product

The Extreme Game Improvement Hot Launch E523 Driver is designed to be the easiest driver to hit in the market for slower to medium swing speeds.

Every aspect of the E523 is focused on improving launch and accuracy.

The 460cc Titanium driver is incredibly stable at impact thanks to its extreme Moment of Inertia (MOI) properties. The technology built into the E523 Driver is all about easy launch, consistent playability, and maximum forgiveness across the entire face.

Houdini Sole Technology - The Houdini Sole includes an area of mass concentrated on the trailing edge of the sole of the clubhead, as well as a curved leading edge under the face. This unique and patented design allows engineers to precisely position weight in the head for an ultra-low and deep CG, optimizing launch conditions and greatly improving stability.

High Moment of Inertia – An extremely high MOI makes this driver an extremely stable and powerful weapon off the tee. This increased MOI will improve ball speed on miss-hits and will keep shots straighter, while the back and low CG positioning creates high-flying, powerful tee shots.

Ridgeback Technology – TE engineers have brought the Ridgeback Tech concept from Exotics to Hot Launch on the E523 Driver with a Ridgeback rail on the crown. The Ridgeback rail provides increased structural properties that help produce more power on across the entire face, including the extreme perimeters. The Ridgeback activation also is utilized as a unique alignment aid at address.

Power Channel – The Power Channel on the sole of the club behind the face is new to the E523 Driver and provides a myriad of performance benefits. The Power Channel distributes weight to promote increased face flexing, amplified ball speed and less spin, as well as added forgiveness on shots struck lower on the face.

Diamond Face VFT - Diamond Face Variable Face Thickness technology is a breakthrough in face technology that features 39 different thick and thin diamond shapes or “mini-trampolines” behind the face. Diamond Face VFT produces a hotter face with faster ball speeds and better performance on off-center hits, as well as reduced spin.

Heel Weighted Slice-Fighting Offset Design - Offset designs are combined with a heel sole weight to provide the ultimate in slice fighting technology. The offset design of the E523 Driver added with a heel sole weight   allows the face to square up at impact for straighter ball flight.

The E523 driver features a redesigned Houdinia sole that moves low and deep for extremely high moi and the easiest launch possible.

9 vs 10.5 vs 12 Degree Driver Loft Chart & Guide

9 vs 10.5 vs 12 degree driver loft chart

Most experienced golfers agree that driver loft is a very important factor in determining shot distance. A beginner of average golfer wants to know which loft is right for them.

There are three main types of driver lofts. In this guide, I’ll compare 9 vs 10.5 vs 12 degree lofts and tell you which one is right for you.

To determine which loft is best for you, you’ll need to consider several factors, such as:

  • swing speed
  • ball launch angle
  • club head speed

Below, we’ll go into more detail about all of this. We’ll also teach you about some clubs with adjustable driver heads that can help you adjust your swing and get more distance:

  • Cobra King Speeedzone
  • TaylorMade Stealth Plus
  • Tour Edge Exotics C721

What is Driver Loft?

9 degree loft, 10.5 degree loft, 12 degree loft, what is the best loft for a driver, why is loft important, driver loft chart, adjustable drivers: overview, best overall, best for experienced players, best for budget, swing and clubhead speed, angle of attack, age of club, frequently asked questions (faq).

Your loft determines how high your shot will go when the club strikes the ball at impact. There are also other factors to this such as your swing speed, angle of attack, and how high you are teeing the ball up.

But, in plain terms, the loft is the degree of angle formed from the ground and the club head when you set the clubsquarely on the ground.

In most case, the ideal driver loft depends on how fast your swing is. The faster the swing speed, the lower loft you will want in order to increase distance in your golf ball. The slower the swing speed, the higher lofted driver you will want as it will increase carry and roll.

One of the most important clubs in your golf bag is your driver. The reason it is important is because on most par 4s and 5s, this is what you are using off the tee in order to get yourself in a good position for your next shot towards the green.

It all comes down to personal preference but if you are wanting to take your golf game to the next level, you will need a solid driver to do so.

The 3 main options for loft are 9 degrees, 10.5 degrees and 12 degrees. I will go over these below. While you read, run the following video which goes over driver loft which is a great resource as well!

LET LOFT HELP YOU!! Whats the difference between 9, 11 & 13 degree driver lofts?

9 vs 10.5 vs 12 Degree Loft Comparison

When it comes to hitting a driver, there are a lot of variables to consider when choosing what loft is best for you. Things to consider are swing speed, launch angle as well as hitting up or down on the ball.

A 9 degree driver loft would be best for intermediate or advanced golfers who have a swing speed over 105 mph.  This means that beginner golfers with slower swing speeds should not be considering a 9 degree golf club.

Players who are able to maintain a higher launch angle will benefit from using 9 degrees. The trajectory of the ball will be lower than at 10.5 degrees, so it will also benefit those who hit down on the ball.

Another reason amateur golfers should not have a 9 degree driver is that is diminishes the backspin of the ball and can create a lot of sidespin. Most average golfers already have a slice, which will be amplified if they were to use 9 degrees.

Mid to low handicap players that can maintain a straight shot will benefit from the added distance a 9 degree loft drivercan bring. The 9 degree driver will produce less backspin at impact as it moves at a lower angle of attack, which will allow the ball to carry a longer distance.

Most PGA professionals with a very fast swing speed, like  Bryson DeChambeau , use a 9 degree loft (or even lower)!

A 10.5 degree driver loft is suited to the recreational golfer who has a slower swing speed or doesn’t hit the ball on an upward launch angle.  Most golfers tend to hit downwards on the ball and a 10.5 degree driver will help you get the ball into the air even without the fastest of swings.

If you were to look at most stock drivers in a golf retail store, the majority of them would be 10.5 degrees. The reason for this is that recreational and higher handicap golfers make up a majority of the sport.

A 10.5 degree driver has a more positive attack angle than 9 degrees, which will give you a more optimal launch and less spin if your swing speed is lower.

If you are an average weekend player with a medium swing speed, I would definitely recommend going with a 10.5 degree driver. With the added loft, it will help you get the ball into the air and give the majority of average golfers more distance off the tee.

Just as I went over for 10.5 degrees, 12 degrees is much the same. A 12 degree driver is more suited for beginner and higher handicap golfers as it gives you an even higher launch off the tee to add some more distance.

A 12 degree driver loft is suited for golfers who have swing speeds under 95 mph and are looking for a little added distance off the tee.

Another benefit to a 12 degree club is that it allows you to hit the ball straighter due to an even more positive attack angle. The reason for this is that the higher the ball goes due to the loft of the driver, the less likely it is to have sidespin on the ball. When sidespin happens, it causes the ball to slice off to the side and most likely end up off the fairway in the rough somewhere.

A launch monitor sometimes calls this “smash factor”, which decreases with a higher driver loft angle.

If you were to use a 12 degree driver with a high swing speed, the higher loft of the driver will create more spin on the ball, which is a drawback. This will cause the ball to fly too high in the air and not as far distance.

That is why it really depends on what your swing speed is when deciding the correct loft.

This question is quite tough to answer because it is very subjective and ultimately comes down to personal preference for each player. The best way to determine which driver loft is best for you is to head into any golf retail shop and hit a few variations into the screen. The launch monitor there will tell you what kind of club head speed, ball speed, spin loft and launch angle you are working with. This will then give you the best idea on what degree will work best for your swing.

Once you have that information, you can hit a few different brands with different lofts to see what works best with your swing. Golf is a game of feel, so whatever feels best will work the best.

In our opinion, the best and most common loft is 10.5. It seems to be the sweet middle of not too much loft, but enough to get the ball into the air while maximizing the most distance.

Driver loft is important because having a club that you are comfortable hitting off the tee is important to succeed. Loft is also important because it dictates how high your ball fly’s into the air off the face of the club.

If you can consistently hit straight off the tee, you will give yourself easier shots after that to get a nice score and have a good day on the golf course.

driver loft chart for each club loft

A great way to see what degree loft is best for you is to look at the above chart. This chart does a great job showing optimal distance off the tee with different lofts, depending on what your swing speed is.

You can see that the slower swing speeds near the bottom of the chart trend upwards in distance the higher lofted they go. The high swing speeds at the top of the chart actually start to lose distance the more lofted they go because spin rate in the air actually causes a decrease in average driver distance.

One other great thing that ties into loft is the fact that some clubs come adjustable instead of having a static loft. What this means is that there is a screw on the head of the driver that you can unscrew and adjust the loft, lie and center of gravity on the fly.

Having a dynamic loft is a big perk for new golfers who are just learning the game.

You can purchase a 10.5 degree driver, but then adjust the head to have it play as a 10, 9.5 or even 11.5 degrees. If you want to try something new or you have an increased swing speed after a few rounds of practice, this is a great option.

Next, we’ll show you you some clubs with dynamic loft that you can adjust the launch angle on.

Best Adjustable Golf Clubs

  • Cobra King Speedzone

The  Cobra King Speedzone  comes with an adjustable hosel that will allow you to choose from seven different lofts apart on the club. You adjust this using the wrench that Cobra provides you. You use the wrench to unscrew the head from the hosel and then spin it to where you want to use. You can either increase or decrease the loft, depending on what you are looking for.

Another thing that you can adjust is a draw or fade bias setting. Doing this will turn the clubface slightly to produce a draw or fade, depending on what you choose. These features sound advanced for average golfers, but are quite useful as you find the right golf swing.

Overall, the Speedzone has a very forgiving driver design that is made for the average golfer.

The other great thing about the Cobra King Speedzone is you get access to the Cobra Connect app on your smartphone. The app then tracks all of your hits, so you can actually see and compare how you hit the ball with different lofts. This will help you decide on the optimal loft.

Cobra Golf 2020 Speedzone Driver Black-Yellow (Men's, Left Hand, Aldila Rogue Silver 60, X Flex, 9.0)

The  Stealth Plus  is the newest release from TaylorMade and it is taking the world by storm on tour. The all new carbon face on the club is completely different from normal titanium. It is 44% lighter than a titanium face and the carbon layer delivers incredible ball speeds for maximum distance.

The Stealth Plus also has an adjustable hosel much like the Cobra King Speedzone. You can unscrew the head using the included wrench and adjust the loft up or down depending on what you are looking for.

Another cool new feature of the Stealth Plus is the sliding weight track. As the carbon face of the driver is lighter than usual, TaylorMade takes that weight savings and puts it into the sliding weight track. This allows you to unscrew the weight track and shift weight around to create your desired ball flight, draw or fade. Once you have the weight where you want, you just screw it back into place and start hitting!

The Stealth Plus is made for more experienced golfers with a faster clubhead speed. If you want modern drivertechnology though, it is the top of the pyramid. It is the club used today by Dustin Johnson, Tiger Woods , Scottie Scheffler , and more.

TaylorMade Golf Stealth Plus+ Driver 8.0 Righthanded

The last adjustable driver I am going to go over quickly is the Tour Edge Exotics C721 . This is a budget club that is perfect for a beginner player who is new to the game. It isn’t as expensive as other premium clubs, but can provide you with the same specs and flexibility.

The Exotics C721 has an adjustable hosel that allows you to adjust the loft up to 2 degrees up or down and also change the lie angle through a range of 3 degrees. It works the same as the others where you unscrew the head, twist the hosel to whatever loft you are looking for, click it back in and screw back in.

This club also includes adjustable sole weights much like the TaylorMade Stealth Plus. It is a 10 gram adjustable back weight that you can position to adjust the center of gravity setting on the club. You can optimize your hits and MOI on the club.

I would definitely recommend checking this out if you don’t want to spend a lot of money, but are looking for adjustability.

What Factors Affect Driver Launch Angle and Distance?

The loft is only one factor for a player to consider when trying to get longer distance.

How fast you swing the club will affect your performance on the course. A faster club speed will introduce spin on your golf ball. This is why professional golfers with fast swing speeds want a lower driver loft.

An average loft of 10.5 degrees with be suitable for a wide range of golfers.

DID YOU KNOW: You should also match your golf ball to your swing speed too.

The actual angle you make contact with the golf ball at will effect ball flights greatly. Having a high loft means nothing if you are swinging down on the ball at a negative angle. This is why having a dynamic loft could be big – you can adjust your loft to match your swing style.

When you make solid and straight on contact with the golf ball, you also minimize your ball spin. This will allow your ball flight to make a consistent and straight ball flight. When you swing inside-out or outside-in and make indirect contact with the golf ball, you add spin to it.

Spin introduces a slice or a hook and takes away distance from you.

Advancements in driver technology have really comet a long way in recent years. Modern clubs have tungsten weighting which lower the sweet spot and reduce the change of a mishit. It has allowed even the slowest swingers and senior golfers to play 10.5 degrees and has pushed 12 degree clubs nearly out of the market.

If you are buying an old club second-hand, then you could consider a higher loft to help you out.

Hopefully this loft guide helps you pick the right club for your skill level. The majority of clubs you will see are 10.5 degrees and are best for every golfer.

If you aren’t sure what to pick, measuring your average club head speed with a launch monitor  will help you pick the right driver for distance.

Remember that the club angle is only one factor to how well you will hit the ball. Your actual loft, created by the upward attack angle of your club against the ball, is another factor that will effect the driver launch angle. Different driver shaftscan also effect your swing path too.

An adjustable driver can help you match your hardware to your golf swing type. Our picks for the best adjustable driversare:

These clubs can help you adjust loft at impact on the golf ball and allow you to play around with higher or lower-lofted drivers.

What is the average driver loft?

The most common loft that you will see is a 10.5 degree driver. This is right in the middle of most lofts available and will be tailored to the most golfers.

What loft do PGA Tour Pros use?

If you were to do a survey, you would probably find that most PGA Tour Pros use a 9 degree driver. PGA Tour golfers have some of the fastest swing speeds on the planet and they want to hit the ball as far as they can. Professional golfers will use a 9 degree driver loft in order to decrease spin for their faster swing speed.

Who is a 9 degree loft best for?

A 9 degree driver is best for low to mid handicap golfers with swing speeds over 100 mph. They are also good for golfers who are able to hit down on the ball with a downward angle because the lower loft will add backspin and increase distance off the tee.

Who is a 10.5 degree loft best for?

A 10.5 degree driver is an effective loft for recreational golfers who have swing speeds lower than 100 mph. The higher lofted driver will provide you with increased launch off the tee,  which will provide more distance.

Who is a 12 degree loft best for?

A 12 degree driver is best for very slow swing speed golfers. The high loft will allow them to get lift on the ball off the tee in order to provide more distance.

12 Degree Driver: What Are The Benefits?

' src=

Jake was a competitive golfer for over a decade dating back to the days of being the Captain of his high school golf team. He has played more than 200 courses across 32 different states in the US. Now semi-retired, Jake continues to golf 3-4 days a week with a current 2 handicap, gives golf lessons to his friends and family, and provides a wealth of knowledge to Golf Circuit from his competitive playing days. Jake combines practical expertise with technical knowledge to create golfing strategies and training techniques for both beginners and scratch golfers.

I’ve always played with a 10.5 degree driver, but with the ease of adjustability in a modern golf driver, it’s hard not to be curious about the benefits of a 12 degree driver.

Most 10.5 degree drivers will adjust to around 12 degrees, and you may be surprised by the performance you can get with this loft in the club.

The 12 degree driver is not for everyone; take a look at who will benefit from this club the most and what those benefits will be.

The Benefits of A 12 Degree Driver

Major Benefits of a 12 Degree Driver graphic

There are three main benefits to a 12 degree driver, and all three of them could fall under the category of forgiveness . With 12 degrees of loft, expect quite a bit of forgiveness.

The three specific benefits of a 12 degree driver are good control, higher launch angle , and increased distances.

Good Control

A 12 degree driver has more loft than a standard 9.5 or 10.5 degree driver, and it makes it easier to control.

Loft in golf can equate to more control. I’m sure you have had instances where you found your 9 iron to be easier to control than your 5 iron.

How about the 4 iron and the 5 iron?

The idea here is that even though the 12 degree driver has just a bit more loft, it’s certainly easier to control. Many golfers that struggle from the tee with their driver will switch to a 3 wood. The most significant difference between the 3 wood and the driver is the loft.

Many offset drivers, drivers for women, and senior golf drivers are sold with 12 degrees of loft to help establish control.

Higher Launch Angle

12 Degree driver with high launch angle

All golf clubs have a perfect launch angle. When you can get the ball started at the proper launch angle, expect a better overall shot.

The proper launch angle leads to a straighter ball flight, more distance, and the right amount of roll when the shot lands.

Many golfers that use a 12 degree driver will benefit from a higher launch angle. It takes quite a bit of swing speed to be able to launch a 9 degree driver high up in the air. With the 12 degree driver, even slower swing speeds will find the proper launch angle.

Increased Distances

The more we have learned about golf, the more we have realized that when a golf ball can stay in the air longer, it flies further.

I think the best way to understand this is to think of the golfer that says they can’t get rid of their 4 iron because they hit it so well.

These golfers, when put on a launch monitor, realize that their dispersion rates with their 4 iron are terrible, and the launch angle likely only results in distances just a few yards further than the 5 iron.

These players mistake a low-flying golf shot for one that is hit properly and accurately. Trust me on this one, a driver that is hit up in the air down the center of the fairway with low spin is a much more beneficial shot than a line drive.

When comparing shot after shot and round after round, the properly launched golf driver with plenty of height will be the better bet.

Who Should Use A 12 Degree Driver?

There are several types of golfers that will benefit from a 12 degree driver. If you watch professionals on the PGA Tour, they typically use a golf driver with about 9 and sometimes even 8 degrees of loft . If you have club head speeds as high as theirs, then the 12 degrees is not for you.

Slower Swing Speeds

The driver is a long club, the longest in your bag. When your swing speed is slower, it takes quite a bit of effort to get the club through the ball and square up the clubface. For golfers with slower swing speeds, the 12 degree driver is a great option to consider.

Slower swing speed players will immediately notice a difference in the launch of the shots they hit and the total carry distance they get. If you pair the club with the proper driver shaft for your swing, the distance gains can be rather impressive.

Women Golfers

Women golfers holding 12 degree drivers

Women golfers are sometimes sold golf drivers with lofts as high as 15 degrees. This is done to help women players with slower swing speeds and lacks some distance (See how to increase your swing speed .)

However, there could be issues with 15 degree drivers having too much loft.

The perfect loft for a golf driver for women will be in the 11.5 to 13.5 range.

This range tends to provide the best mix of performance, distance, and forgiveness. For women golfers worried that 12 degrees is not enough loft, purchase an adjustable golf driver.

Some women golfers with high swing speeds could need to choose a driver with less than 12 degrees of loft.

Senior golfer using 12 degree driver off the tee

Senior golfers start to lose some club head speed. This is just a natural process that occurs over time and something that we can’t do much about.

Of course, it’s good to try and maintain your swing speed as long as you can, but when it starts to slow down, investing in the right equipment is a smart choice.

The best thing for a senior golfer to do is to add a bit of loft and a senior golf shaft to their bag. This will make it considerably easier to get the same clubhead speed you had in the past and some impressive results.

Seniors don’t need to rush out and purchase all new equipment. Update the bag as you go along, and the game will become considerably easier.

New Golfers

Beginner golfers can struggle with a driver. It’s sort of a right of passage that to become a great golfer, you must at some point get through the issue of slicing the ball . Some golfers never make it through, but you can certainly see the way beginners struggle with the slice.

One of the best ways to help a slice is to use a more forgiving golf club . At this point, you should have learned that loft in a driver is directly related to forgiveness.

Many beginner golfers will purchase a complete club set, and the driver typically comes with at least 11 degrees of loft.

New golfers can learn to gain distance in the future. In the beginning, the goal should be to have more consistency and control over the shots. This will lead to the best career in the game.

Upward Hitters

Hitting the drivers as part of the upswing is a good thing; however, for some players, this can become a bit exaggerated.

When this happens, the ball flight is a bit off because the driver makes contact with the lower portion of the face.

Goflers that swing like this should consider a higher lofted driver, as well as make a few stance and setup adjustments in their swing. The same can be said for downward hitters that tend to pop the ball straight up in the air.

Are Drivers Adjustable to 12 Degrees?

Driver behind golf ball

Depending on the loft of the driver your purchase, your current driver could very well be adjustable to 12 degrees.

Brands typically allow for one to two degrees in loft adjustment on a driver. For those struggling to get the ball flight, distance, and control, they ended with the 10 or 11 degree loft; try bumping it up to 12 degrees.

If you know you struggle with loft and launch angle, make sure to purchase the 10.5 or 11 degree driver, as opposed to the 9 or 9.5, this will be a better loft adjustability range for your game.

Final Thoughts

We hope you now feel a bit more knowledgeable about the benefits of a 12 degree driver. As we mentioned, this technology is not for everyone.

You will notice that some of the issues that the 12 degree driver fixes, can also create problems for other players.

Typically speaking golfers that struggle with control and launch angle will benefit from the 12 degree driver the most.

Is 12 degrees good for a driver?

The loft of a driver should be matched to the specifics of a player’s swing. For many slower swing speed players, the 12 degree driver loft can be a good match.

In addition, golfers that tend to have more of an upward angle swing on their driver also benefit from the 12 degrees of loft.

Is it easier to hit a 12 degree driver?

A 12 degree driver is considerably easier to hit than a lower lofted golf driver. Testing with the different lofts can show you your dispersion rates and help you determine the best fit.

What degree driver is best for distance?

Most average golfers find that 10.5 degrees are the best for distance performance. However, some faster swing speed players will have better luck with the 9 or 9.5 degrees.

Is a 12 degree driver good for seniors?

A 12 degree driver tends to be a good option for seniors. However, we find it extremely beneficial for senior golfers to purchase an adjustable golf driver and play with different lofts and lie angles that will work best for their swing at the time. As your game changes, simply make a tweak to the driver.

Tour Edge Exotics E723 Driver

Need to know how to adjust a Tour Edge Exotics E723 driver to switch the loft and lie angles? We have a complete guide and adjustment chart.

The Tour Edge Exotics E723 driver is fully adjustable with a hosel offering you the opportunity to adjust the loft to increase or decrease your launch angle.

The amount of  driver adjustment  you can make differs from brand to brand but the step-by-step guide below shows you how the Tour Edge Exotics E723 driver can be adjusted.

Tour Edge Exotics E723 Driver Lofts

The Tour Edge Exotics E723 driver is sold in three standard lofts of 9 degrees, 10.5 degrees and 12 degrees for right handers but only 10.5 degrees for left handers.

Tour Edge Exotics E723 Driver Specs

Loft:  9 degrees, 10.5 degrees and 12 degrees

Standard Length:  45.5 inches

Standard Lie:  59 degrees

Adjustability:  The adjustable hosel allows golfers to adjust the loft +/- 2 degrees and lie angle through a range of 3 degrees.

Adjusting The Loft Angle of a Tour Edge Exotics E723 Driver

Tour Edge Exotics E723 Driver

There are a few simple steps you can take to adjust the loft angle of your driver. You will just need an adjustment tool or wrench to get started.

Here’s how to adjust a Tour Edge Exotics E723 driver:

1. Locate the screw on the sole of your Tour Edge Exotics E723 driver that attaches the driver head to the shaft.

2. Using the wrench, loosen the screw by turning anticlockwise.

3. Once the screw is fully out, you can rotate the adjustable hosel to a lower loft or a higher loft depending on your preference. You will notice the loft figure you had the driver set to and be able to turn the shaft to up to 16 further options.

4. When you have turned the hosel to your required loft, slot the shaft back into your club head. Your new loft will be display through the window on most drivers.

5. Put the screw back in place and tighten with the wrench by turning clockwise. When it is fully tight, you will hear a crank that sounds like the driver is cracking. At this point, the screw is as tight as needed.

Every time you want to adjust the loft, you repeat this process.
