“canada/alaska”.

August 2023. Banff was beautiful, very hot and interesting. British Columbia and the Icefields are awesome. Onto Jasper for 1 night and then 2 days on the Rocky Mountaineer (it’s expensive but upgrade to Gold - it is sheer luxury). Overnight stay in Kamloops - made friends with 2 lovely local fireman who were stationed outside our hotel. Vancouver is beautifull. Must do’s are Vancouver Island and the world famous Butchart Gardens. You will walk your feet off. Overall this is a whistle stop tour but you will enjoy it. Only downside is the hotels are tired (definitely only 3 star) and the tour guide never stops talking. You really should speak up instead of moaning amongst yourselves as we did. There are times on the coach when you just want to drink in the breath-taking scenery but the guide drones on all the time - sure some of it is interesting but it is overload. Having said that we did like our Tour Guide. Looking through the reviews for all the different Titan holidays this seems to be a common thread - guides who drone on forever. Titan please take note and do something about it because we already have 2 more big holidays booked with you.

“Appalling VIP pickup service and tour manager”

written by Virginia128 on 26/02/2024

We went on "Jewels of the Aegean"/"Greek Island Medley" in October 2023. We were a big crowed of 44 people.. mostly in our late 70's, 80's and even over 90years, which was way too big. Our VIP pickup time was 7.30 am in the morning, for an early flight the following day, necessitating an overnight hotel stay and awful food, despite other guests being picked up in the evening and only two hours further south on the same route to Heathrow. The only option we were given was to pay £500 for a Private transfer, which we refused ! The Saga driver, I have to say, was excellent, and the transport was comfortable in a saloon car. The return journey was not ! We were in a transit van with rear facing and forward facing seats, which was not conducive for a long journey. Our tour manager left a lot to be desired. He was loud,(you could hear him shouting across the hotel foyer "Team Titan") which is not what you or other guests in the hotel want to hear. He was very vocal and rude, and at the time, refused to refund our euros 120, for a tour he cancelled. This has partially been repaid by Titan, as he had refused to reimburse us, and only after many letters and phone calls by our travel agent. However, his attitude to my wife was intolerable, in her face, to an extent that even other guests were concerned about her. The effect of this marred our holiday. To date, we are still looking for compensation, but Titan continue to not answer phones, every letter says 28 days, and even that date they do not adhere to. It seems that the amalgamation of Titan and Saga is only going to get worse. In the past we have travelled with both companies, since 2009, as individual companies, but now since amalgamation, they are both lowering standards, and customer care has deteriorated beyond belief, with ridiculous response times. We await a satisfactory resolution to our complaint, but sadly we will probably not book another holiday, unless there is a remarkable upturn in your customer relations. After all it is us, the public who pay to keep you in employment.

“Lovely tour, needs better hotels (location and standard)”

written by Marylene on 16/09/2023

Taste of The Douro valley tour review , September 2023 We have just come back from a tour through the Douro valley with Titan. We were quite surprised at the size of the group (46) as when we have traveled before with them, the groups were around 20. A lot of people were quite elderly, one gentleman being 92 and we lost him quite a few times. We stayed in 3 different hotels from the same range. The first one Termas De São Vicente in Pinafiel should be dropped from their list. It was very outdated with dodgy air conditioning and intermittent wifi in the bedroom. The other hotels were more modern. The food was average for a 3* let alone a 4*. The staff were always helpful but there was a shortage of staff. The few people in our group needing special dietary treatment (vegan, vegetarians) seemed to take most of the ressources. They expected something special cooked for them every morning and evening meal! We feel that the quality was variable and the location was far from ideal. They were remote from the areas we were visiting. All in all, it was a pleasant holiday. It was well paced and our tour leader was very competent and helpful. She had a few challenges for sure!

“Vietnam and Cambodia Tour”

written by Berushka on 26/04/2023

I loved this tour. I found our drivers for the transfer from home to hotel excellent and very entertaining. Our rep who accompanied for the whole tour was extremely efficient and all the guides were very knowledgeable. The hotels were all superb and of an excellent quality especially The Mai Hotel in Saigon where the food was of cordon bleu quality. Titan took us to all the key places and I cannot fault their organisation.

“The Shouting Lady.”

written by ABKeaveny on 08/09/2022

I have stopped using Titan . On my last two (Mexico and California and the Golden West), I was driven to distraction by "The Shouting Lady". This is a woman, sometimes the guide, sometimes a local , who starts shouting at ear-splitting volume as soon as the bus starts. Even though I wear industrial ear protectors my ears hurt. Don't Go !

“Cotswold tour”

written by Carlpatricia on 19/06/2022

Last year we did the Isle of Wight tour not perfect but the Royal Hotel was superb. This year we did the Cotswolds tour. Our transfers were excellent. Our tour guide was also excellent. We enjoyed the itinerary very much especially Suddley castle. Our hotel very sadly has some serious issues. Rooms only cleaned and made up if requested. The food was extremely disappointing given what we had paid. One guest in particular was very upset because she had booked this for her husband's 80th birthday. The staffing levels were dire and my husband waited in a queue, for 30 minutes to get a drink at the bar. The staff did their utmost best but I found myself clearing off a table in order to sit down with our drinks. The scant staff really worked very hard. She had been there all day doing reception, domestic duties and worked in the dining room. It was not possible to order a bottle of wine at the table. It was do it yourself at the bar. So we are unsure whether to book with Titan again.

“The Demise of Titan..”

written by Poole169 on 10/06/2022

Sinking rapidly thanks to the general incompetence and ineptitude of middle and senior management. I spent over 10 years working as a Tour Manager and have seen this company since it was taken over by the ACROMAS group ( holding group of Saga) and have seen its gradual destruction and deterioration especially following it's amalgamation and closer integration with Saga. Everything from product design to customer service, financial control, brochure creation, marketing, brand identity or their USP VIP taxi transfer service to the quality or experience of the staff hired is poor and increasingly so. Not once did I notice any improvement, despite constant suggestions and recommendations just a general deterioration and destruction of the company and everything it used to stand for and believe in. Across the board from senior to middle management and then the lower echelons of office staff alarming examples of ineptitude, incompetence and a toxic work culture, more so with all the uncertainty with their future employment. Suggestions from Tour Managers as to how a product would work better were mostly ignored or looked upon with disdain and so mistakes repeated and the customer experience affected. In addition in the last few years Tour Managers who felt it necessary to point out these failings were often threatened by management AKA: Customer Service Director  that they keep quiet if they wanted to continue with the company. A nasty piece of work. The company recently - to desperately save costs - started making redundant most of their employees who had any decent experience or could think for themselves or wouldn't be cowed by his threats. He knew he could threaten Tour Managers in his particular way, because they weren’t actually employed by the company and so had no legal protection under ordinary employment law. As a result of poor behaviour and management and in addition to the some of the lowest Tour Manager fees in the industry (as well as poor salaries for office staff), most if not all of the quality Tour Managers decided not to work for this company again. My advice to CEO and Non-Exec Chairman, for starters get rid of Director of Titan and  Director of Customer Experiences- two of the most incompetent managers I've experienced in over 25 years working in the travel industry. Also perhaps Senior Management might like to do a little investigation on MG on exactly what he's up to at Titan and how he brings his extra-curricular activities into his management style in the work place? Oh, he's very sneaky... I have files and detailed reports, highlighting all kinds of instances of gross incompetence and general ineptitude of management covering three or four years working with this company which I would be happy to share with Senior Management.

“Splendours of India - an exhausting trip!”

written by Welshperson on 14/03/2019

We got back last Friday - 8th March 2019. The tour DID follow the itinerary pretty much as expected, but the impression we had before doing the trip was that we would have a fair bit of downtime to relax as there are a number of references to afternoons at leisure and free time in the bumph. That didn't happen very often. We were either travelling - a lot - sightseeing late, or eating and sleeping, with what seemed to be an awful lot of early wake ups at the end of the trip. I think the earliest was 4:30 at Varanasi (which was OK as it was expected), but I think we had a couple of 5.30 wake-ups too which were hard work. We weren't helped by the fact that Jet Airlines - Titan's main choice of flight - are pretty much on the way out, so one of our internal flights was canclled which left us with a 12 hour drive one day...Jet were frankly bad in my opinion. If we ever do a Titan Trip again and Jet are still functioning, we will ensure that we use someone else. They are a poor budget choice which Titan obviously use because they are cheap... The hotels that we used were extremely good, but if you like beer - which we do - it was incredibly expensive in the hotels. I think the most expensive worked out at about £15 a pint... A 330ml bottle was about 500 Rupees. On top of that we got hit by local taxes, service charge, a contribution to uncle Tom Cobley and something else I think. So we paid about 700 Rupees for that. Double that up and you are up to the 15 quid for a pint! But there you go. They WERE all nice hotels. Food in the hotels was extremely good and I don't think any of our trip had serious tummy problems. So well done there. Both our British guide and local guide were absolutely spot on. 10 out of 10 for them both. When we weren't eating as part of the inclusive bits, our guide took us to local places which were uniformly very good - and the beer was a lot cheaper at these too! The itinerary itself was very varied - temples, tigers ( bumpy, bruising, uncomfortable trips but we saw them every time we went out), Taj Mahal, the Ganges and a lot more besides. It was a good, well organised trip which worked because of the guides and the fact that the 25 people on the trip - average age about 60 probably - all got on very well. Over that number is pushing it a bit in my opinion as you all have to get on and off the bus for the loo, visiting sites, or to eat and that obviously takes time which eat into any spare time we could have had. Last thing is the VIP door-to-door service. VIP means Very Important Person. It doesn't mean a taxi jammed with 6 people + the driver, some of whom had to come from Shepton Mallet, via Ringwood and Fleet to get to Heathrow! So Titan should call a spade a spade and say a taxi will be provided which may make significant detours too and from the airport! But still 4 out of 5 as it was a good trip overall!

“Never again Titan”

written by scfpmf on 10/03/2019

We wouldn't do this tour again if it was free. We booked for a special birthday but it was such a let down. Late starts, arrivals at hotels mid afternoon, middle of nowhere with nothing to do. Stayed in LA but saw nothing, stayed in the worst hotel in Vegas, tour guide was just patronising and kept reminding us about this tip! Too much driving, not enough time at many of the stops, poor hotels (except for one), we couldn't wait to fly home and will never use Titan again. We did manage to get a small refund after complaining to Abta

“Holiday of a lifetime”

written by on 26/11/2018

Just back from the Southern sights and sound tour, wow, loved it, door to door travel, so convenient, great hotels, coach driver and tour guide were amazing, huge knowledge of the places we visited, my highlight had to be Graceland and Tupelo, as I love Elvis. Only thing we were not keen on was the plantation tour, although very informative, was not really of interest to us, but everything else was awesome. All in all it was a wonderful holiday, thank you Titan.

“One of our best holidays EVER”

written by Rosemary60 on 15/04/2018

We have just returned from India, doing the golden triangle tour and we had the most wonderful time. Our tour manager and local tour guide were excellent. They were friendly, very professional and so helpful with nothing being too much trouble. We were a small group, twenty plus and as this was our first tour with Titan, didn't know what to expect. We need not have worried, everything went so well, from the booking of the holiday to our return home. The hotels were of a very high standard and the range and quality of food was exceptional. The sights were amazing and our lovely guides arranged special extras like a lunch in a palace in Jaipur and a rickshaw ride in the evening ( an experience not to be missed !). Thank you all so much. We are now looking to rebook for next February.

“cruise-lack of information”

written by 51Hutchinson on 29/01/2018

Just looking through our recently received TITAN RIVER CRUISE Brochure,THE Front pages explain all about the Cruise Lines featured in the brochure. There are several cruises in the brochure that caught our attention, but we could not find anywhere in the brochure that mentioned the dress code of the included Cruise Lines. Think this is a very silly ommision by Titan,as not everyone wants to wear black tie on holiday ,so it would be very useful to know what each cruise lines dress code is.

“Definitely not for us ...”

written by kookaburra717 on 03/12/2017

Recently we travelled on our first Titan holiday to Jordan. It was a special holiday and we booked business class on Royal Jordanian (which was lovely). We thought the whole experience of travelling with Titan would be 'special' and had even booked another holiday with them for next March. What a total let-down - I say 'total' because the Tour Manager (who after all is the 'face' of the company) was the worst we have had in the last 11 years of retirement travelling with companies from the UK. Perhaps we don't understand the Titan brand. We are Australians who retired to UK to enjoy all that is in travel both in the UK and further afield and have explored different types of travel, including going to remote regions, volunteering in India and Nepal, climbing in the Caucasus and Russia and beyond. We didn't understand the need for the Tour Manager to announce over the microphone on Day 1 that she had been a lecturer at a College and that her son was a doctor. This seemed to us an attempt to assure us of her status. I mean, is it really necessary to state that publicly that your son is a doctor !! (PS Mine is a QC, but I never felt the need to tell her) In a face-to-face when she stood to close too me and spoke too loudly in my face and I asked her to step away, she said loudly 'I am a professional'. Well ... I could say lots but I won't. I just said that we did not wish to interact with her for the rest of the holiday. It worked well. It might (or might not more likely!) interest the Tour Manager that we are also professionals but I do not intend to list our postgraduate qualifications here. There was an issue of a security matter which we raised with her and she chose to ignore and, in fact told me she was surprised at my concern, specially as I had travelled extensively in the Middle East (which I have). Titan Customer Service have said it was not the intention of the Tour Manager to treat us this way. I accept that completely. We cancelled our next trip booked with Titan next March and were willing to forfeit our deposit of £290. It was worth it to us to not risk meeting the same Tour Manager again (we know it is a region she goes to). Choose whether or not to travel with Titan. It didn't suit us. We are leaving tomorrow for Slovenia with another company we have travelled with before and will never travel with Titian again. Your choice of course.

“Trans Canadian Rail Odyssey”

written by on 09/11/2017

I completed this Trans Canadian Rail Odyssey trip in September of this year and am really glad I decided to do it. Because I am just on my own and it was a once only I decided to upgrade everything, business class flights, gold leaf on the rocky mountaineer and prestige on the canadian via rail and it was wonderful. The only blip was the canadian train was 12 hours late which meant we spent an extra night in Toronto but this didnt affect the rest of our itinery. I thought that the trip was extremely well organised and we had an excellent tour guide, very efficient and helpful at all times. All the hotels that we stayed in were very good especially the one in Vancouver. There was a heatwave at the time we were there so we were fortunate to have the added bonus of such beautiful weather. I particularly enjoyed travelling on the two trains. It was a long journey on the Canadian but I had a lovely cabin and really enjoyed the food. The Rocky mountaineer was spectacular, very comfortable and superb food which we had in the dining room downstairs. Another thing which I really enjoyed but which was an extra was an extended seaplane tour over Vancouver and the mountains. It looked absolutely stunning when the plane flew over the lakes on the tops of the mountains. Overall I am really glad I did this tour because I have brought back with me some lovely memories and met and made friends with some really nice people

“Tracks of South Africa”

written by Tetley12 on 07/11/2017

Thie holiday started on a real high, with a 2night stay at the Mala Mala Game reserve where we had fantastic guides and were yards away from elephants, lions, rhino and leopards. The location was superb and the huts luxurious. The itinerary which followed took us along the East side of Africa and to the garden route and Cape Town, Unfortunately Titan failed to build on their tour itinerary because the information that they supplied us pre tour was inaccurate. We were given a list of additional excursions which we could book locally when we were with our tour guide. The top tour was Robben Island and is on many peoples list of places that they want to visit. I contacted Titan months before we were due to leave to make sure we would be able to access tickets and was told there would be no problem. When we arrived in The Cape all tickets to Robben Island were completely sold out for the entire week. The Featherbed Nature Reserve in Knysna was also an excursion which was never going to take place as it had been burnt out earlier that year. We were never told and Titan nor the guide made any attempt to replace it. We, as a group actually organised our own tour, all 26 of us!? Other additional tours also never took place or were only open to a few selected people. Table Mountain was another highlight which never happened. The weather in Cape Town can be very turbulent but there were opportunities when we could have accessed the mountain but the guide was not really prepared to be that flexible in his times and was not concerned about the disappointment of many people on the tour. This was supposed to be for us a holiday of a lifetime and it was disappointing that Titan didn't make any effort to ensure that their customers were fully informed of all the relevant facts and to trouble shoot the aspects of the holiday which were not working. Lastly the journey home from the airport took us on a 3hour hair raising journey to drop a fellow passenger 60miles away from where we lived with a driver whose concentration had gone completely and who drove in a fast, reckless manner. I am fortunate that I am still around to write this report. Tracks of South Africa is a lovely tour but Titan were a disappointment.

“Montenegro - Titan Tours Perfect Destination. ”

written by Tristianx462 on 10/10/2017

We chose Montenegro because it would be entirely new to us and it was described as being Breathtakingly Beautiful. Perfect description! We loved the diversity of the regions visited. Budva was the ideal starting point and the Hotel was only a couple of minutes walk away from the charm of the Old Town. The Avala Resort Hotel was quite modern, and did not match the ambience of the Old Town. The main restaurant lacked style, however the food was good and the staff were helpful. Wine was ridiculously expensive. Basic wine cost 4euro in Budva shop and same wine 24 euro in the Avala. Fabulous guided Tours raised the Holiday to a definite 5 star visit. The Guide was First Class, perhaps the best we have ever known. The Mountain resort, Hotel Bianca, suited the area and the surrounds and it had a really good indoor pool. Fabulous Tours and walks and a Zip Wire flight all added up to an incredibly good holiday. The care taken of the Titan Group by the Montenegran Guide and the coach driver was second to none.

“California and the Golden West tour September 2017”

written by Bristolcelt on 27/09/2017

We trawled many review sites to try to find some helpful research and prepare before we went on this escorted Titan Travel coach tour in September 2017, but really struggled to find anything giving useful information. I hope this review will do that for anyone who is going on this excellent tour. We went in early September and enjoyed good weather throughout, so the jumpers, hoodie and rain jackets we took weren't needed. Some might find a jumper useful for the air conditioned coach. We survived every day with summer clothes, tshirts, shorts and trainers and could easily have worn these in the evening as well as during the day. We took "best" clothes for any planned nights out which included dinner, but didn't use them. All hotels had an iron and ironing board, but it's quite acceptable to go out with creases on your clothes. You do need to get into a routine over how you arrange your clothes in your case, or you get into a muddle, especially at the one night stay hotels. You are allowed 23kg of hold luggage and that should be more than enough. Don't skimp by taking less than 15 days of socks and boxers/knickers. Some on the tour did and regretted it. It became a topic of conversation. Some hotels had self serve laundries, but the last thing you want to be doing is wasting good holiday time by washing your smalls. Some resorted to buying more at the one very useful stop we made at a Walmart. The group had mixed ages, but most were in there early 60's. Some older, but some younger too. Youngest couple in their 40's. 3 ladies on their own. Most of the group mixed very well and we hope we have made some friends for life. But if you want to do your own thing, you can. The hotels were very good quality, but that meant that, in a few, you were paying what I consider to be over the odds for food in the hotel restaurants. In a few, the hotel has a captive audience as most are out of town, and prices reflect that. You can easily pay well over £100 for a very ordinary dinner by the time sales tax and tips are added. Do some investigating before to see what alternatives there are near the hotel. There are some excellent options. I can recommend Ercoles bar for their burgers at Manhattan Beach, if you use your free-time and take the hop-on/off bus ($5 return, stop is right outside the hotel) to Manhattan Beach on the first day in Los Angeles, Papanani's deli in San Diego for breakfast and the Boathouse for dinner in San Diego, the nearby truck stop for breakfast and BlackBart's steakhouse for dinner in Flagstaff, The Grubstake (a converted cable car) for weekend breakfast in San Francisco, or the Starbucks inside Wells Fargo, depending on what you want and the Grant Place (or Palace) Chinese restaurant in Chinatown for dinner (set meal for 4 only $40). Make sure you visit Top of the Mark for a drink and the view whilst in San Francisco too. We discovered Panda Express for a shared Chinese lunch at a few stops, which was excellent and great value. To make the trip that little bit more comfortable and enjoyable I recommend you: -Bring a refillable water container. Most of the hotels have ice machines, so you can fill them up each morning just with ice and the coach driver sells small bottles of water for $1, which you can fill the containers with. You have nice, cool water to drink the whole day. -Bring tea bags and/or your favourite coffee if you enjoy a hot drink in the morning. Most of the hotels had coffee machines, but the coffee was all different and quite strong and only a few had tea. You can bring a small flask and fill it up for the coach, although most hotels supplied takeaway cardboard cups with a plastic top in the bedroom. -Bring a small torch. We didn't, but one would have been useful. Also one small umbrella just in case. -Use the free wifi and the USB charging points on the coach, which were really useful. -Buy when you can. You stop in some random out of the way places, like fruit farm shops, for am and pm rest stops, some with really high prices for snacks. When you get the chance to shop in a decent priced supermarket, stock up on snacks. -Don't be afraid to ask to share a meal or a snack in a restaurant. US portion sizes are generally very big compared to UK and you will waste a lot of food and cash if you don't. -Only give the driver and tour manager a tip that you think they deserve, if they have added value. Titan recommend a ridiculous daily tip for the tour manager, which would only be warranted if they were excelling every day. Ours didn't. -Make the most of every extra excursion on offer. You will probably only do the trip once and you don't want to have any regrets. Grand Canyon helicopter brilliant. San Francisco Bay trip great. San Francisco evening meal and tour very good. Las Vegas sights and lights also very good. -Book a Vegas show you really want to see before you leave home and as early as possible to guarantee a ticket. Don't leave it until you arrive. Tickets were double the price quoted at home for a show on the night. Same with Alcatraz tickets. Alcatraz trips are booked up weeks in advance. -Watch out for restaurants adding a compulsory 18% gratuity to bills and large groups charge, sometimes for only 6 people, of 18%. -Get a Halifax credit card, as recommended by Martin Lewis. We withdrew dollars from atms with it. As much as we could for each withdrawal. We were charged $3 by the ATM owner for each withdrawal and that included in banks. In one mall the charge was $5, but we just waited until we found one with a $3 charge. We used the card to pay bigger bills too. -Buy a bottle of your favourite tipple on the plane and have a nice drink that you're not paying through the nose for when you arrive at your hotel each night. -Find something to do during the daily trips on the coach, as you can only appreciate the scenery for so long. I ended up writing a daily blog of what we were up to, which I shared with the family and I now have a permanent record of the trip. I also reviewed the photos we had taken and deleted lots, but still ended up with over 700. You could check the internet for places to eat at the overnight stop, or just find out what is close to the hotel. Many of the hotel websites have breakfast and dinner menus, so you can check the menu options and prices before you arrive. -Be prepared for a delay of up to an hour getting through immigration at LAX. We encountered a couple of the most work-shy public servants we have ever met and I can't believe that they get away with it. They were clearly used to doing it. One even asked if there were any Americans left in the queue of about 30 of us Brits and Puerto Ricans before he just left his cubicle and walked over to an equally work-shy official for a chat and didn't come back. Welcome to America! That said, outside the cities, we were surprised at how willing people were to greet you with "good morning/afternoon", particularly at Huntington Beach. We found American prices generally much more than UK for everything, so you need to have your wits about you before buying and paying. In Solvang, a great morning stop, one shop was selling a fridge magnet for $9.99 and 50 yards along the road it was the more usual $3.99. We paid for our big excursions before we left but paid for two whilst on the holiday. We bought a few souvenirs and overall we spent about £2,200, the vast majority of that on food. For info, on our coach everyone (43 of us) moved two seats clockwise each day, so everyone had a chance of sitting at or very near the front seat of the coach and there was nobody camping outside the coach early each morning to reserve the best seat. A great idea. We enjoyed everywhere and some more than others. We travelled just short of 3,000 miles. San Diego lovely. Grand Canyon amazing. San Francisco really enjoyable, but beggars everywhere. Los Angeles, not enough time. Las Vegas totally different, but tacky and hot. Hoover dam huge. And they do have a different, dry heat in Arizona and Nevada. The trip to Yosemite was a bit of a drag, with slow speeds, braking and lots of turns in and out of the valley. You couldn't see much for the trees! The last two days travelling back to Los Angeles are a bit of a drag, with the big ticket cities in the past and just 2 X 250 mile trips to look forward to. I would rather have stayed another two nights in San Francisco and flown home from there. But we would do the trip again tomorrow if we had the chance. Just do everything you can and never say no. The chauffeured trip back home was really welcome, after a sleepless night on the plane.

“California & The Golden West. June 2017”

written by on 26/06/2017

Good & Bad. Titan - California & the Golden West The letter said that we would be collected at 4.16 a.m. Mini bus called at 3.00 a.m. Hotel: Hyatt Regency, LAX. Good location, 10 mins. from airport. Either rest or get local bus to Manhattan Beach. This was worthwhile as we met some very good travellers on the same trip & a good pub. Next day, set off for Hollywood. One hour at the Chinese theatre followed by a drive by Rodeo Drive & Beverley Hills. One hour stop at farmers market for lunch. That is all that you will see of L.A. Set of for San Diego. Arrive at Hilton Garden Inn, Mission Valley around 16.00. This is a truck stop on a free way 12 miles from San Diego. No chance to explore San Diego. Just two places to eat plus petrol station for cheap beer. Day three. Bus ride into San Diego. Request to come back later to the hotel but only concession is to go back to the hotel at 16.30 instead of 16.00. Luckily some like minded friends decide to stay & split the taxi fare, $35.00. Day four. Off to Scottsdale. You will now start to realise just how big the U.S.A. is & how many miles you will cover on this trip. Hotel at Scottsdale is in a perfect location. Short walk to old town for meals. Rusty Nails pub for a lively evening. Day five. Travel to Flagg Staff via Sedona. Sedona is a very nice place to see. However, the Little American Hotel is again a truck stop on a freeway. Two miles out of Flagg Staff. You will not see any of Flagg Staff. I would recommend Black Barts for a lovely meal. (Across the Freeway). Day six. Grand Canyon. Spectacular as you would expect. I asked the representative & driver if we could take a detour to Flagg Staff but was informed it was the opposite way. (Two Miles away). Back at hotel for 15.00. Day seven. Williams depot for a shoot out & a pit stop at Seligman, Route 66. Both very enjoyable. Tropicana, Las Vegas. Ideal location. Day eight, free to explore sin city. Day nine. Call in at Calico silver mining ghost town for 30 mins. We get 45 mins at Walmart / restaurant to buy some lunch. Hotel Wyndham, Visalia. Day 10. Onwards to Yosemite. Lovely view of the waterfalls. You cannot now drive by the red wood trees. Hotel Double Tree, Modesto. This a goods railway yard. 1.22 a.m. Train all whistles & hooters blowing. I thought the train was coming through the bedroom. Three more trains in the night but not as loud. Day 11. Travel to San Francisco. Bus tour to see all of the sights. Drive over the Golden Gate bridge. No time to get off the bus. We booked the meal & night time tour with Titan. $65.00 each for a limited choice menu. We were informed that the drink would flow freely but was restricted to one bottle of wine between two people. Holiday Inn, Golden Gateway. Good location for the cable cars. However, It would seem that all of the Titan guests had rooms next to the lifts on all levels. These a very noisy. Day 12. Free day to explore San Francisco. Was told by the rep that we would be lucky to get tickets for Alcatraz but luckily we had a guest who sorted this out for us & two other couples. Day 13. Monterey, 17 mile drive, Carmel. The chances of ever going down the Big Sur are remote. Cambria Pines Lodge. Reasonably priced bar meals. Lovely seating outside area. Day 14. Called in at a town called Solvang. Very nice surprise, what a lovely town. Santa Barbara. Limited places for lunch where we were dropped off the bus. Onwards to Huntington Beach. Some noise at the hotel where there is building work but did not hang around & headed out to see the sights. To summarise, the hotels are clean & serviceable but some of the locations are really poor. P.S. Titan advertise 6 free bottles of wine if you book before a certain time. This we di but have still not received the wine.

Hidden Treasures of Sardinia

Tom our Tour Manager was excellent. His knowledge of the island and is organisational skills were very good. Unfortunately, the quality of the hotels and food provided fell well below the standard expected on a Titan tour. Many visits seemed to be wasting time to delay arrival at hotel, eg The Bandit Museum in Aggius and Porto Cervo. Finally we did not pass Tharros, which was part of the itinerary.

Jewels of Spain

Very disappointed with this holiday as we were inundated with 100’s of Spanish children taking part in a football tournament at our first hotel. They were badly behaved and the adults with them were only interested in drinking . Complaints to management were useless . Saga/Titan say they have no control over other guests staying there but as this is an annual event another hotel should have been used for June holidays. The final hotel was overrun with 300+ children and teachers.Though they were better behaved the noise generated by that number is horrendous . Children around a pool are exuberant and run and jump everywhere which is to be expected but as an older group it didn’t make for a relaxing holiday. The hotels and included trips were very good and if you were to go any month other than June it would be a lovely holiday

Hi Vivienne, Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We're so sorry to hear about your disappointment in your stay at the final hotel. Our Products team are aware of this incident and are working with the hotel directly to ensure that similar issues don't occur in the future. Grand Canadian Coast to Coast

Grand Canadian Coast to Coast This was our first "escorted' holiday and it very clearly demonstrated the benefits. No worries for us, a door to door service, and a tour manager (Alex) who took everyone's wishes, and needs, on board. The itinerary was ambitious and despite the weather making some things difficult, more than adequately fulfilled. If we had tried a self-drive version we would have missed doing so much. We'll definitely be doing a Titan tour again.

Hi Suzanne, Thanks for taking the time to share such a great review of your trip to Canada. It sounds like you had a wonderful experience and that Alex did a great job showing you all the sights. We look forward to you joining us again on another Titan adventure, Best Wishes, Nick Titan Travel

Deluxe Rocky Mountaineer and Alaskan Cruise

We have just returned from a Rocky Mountaineer and Alaskan Inside Passage cruise on the Konigsdam Holland America ship. The whole experience from arriving in Calgary to our departure from Vancouver 18 days later was so well organised. Our guide John Allen was amazing too, he worked 'above and beyond' and we can't speak highly enough of him and would thank him so much. His knowledge of every area was second to none. ,

Rocky Mountaineer and Alaska Cruise

Rocky Mountaineer and Alaska Cruise Much variety was packed into a very enjoyable 17 day holiday. John Allen’s depth of knowledge and experience enhanced our enjoyment considerably not just in providing “local” knowledge but in the very efficient handling of all the administrative arrangements. We booked the holiday through Saga, unaware that it was a Titan holiday, although it transpired that the two companies are, to all intents and purposes, one and the same. While away it became clear that those who had booked through Titan had received information not available to us prior to the trip. That might explain why we were surprised to incur so much additional cost on hotel breakfasts and evening meals that were not included and the level of tips which were over and above our expectations. Jane & Richard

Deluxe Alaskan voyage and Rocky…

Deluxe Alaskan voyage and Rocky Mountaineer: we have just completed the last day of our tour which has packed a lot into the 17days in Canada. Excellent tour manager, John, had a huge amount of experience and knowledge of the areas we visited which enhanced our holiday experience. Our only criticism was that breakfast was not always included and many activities cost extra. On the whole, though, we felt the tour was well organised and that we now know a lot more about North West Canada, Alaska, its history, wildlife and culture.

Hi Philip, Thanks for sharing your review. It sounds like you had a wonderful experience exploring Alaska and Canada with John and the team. Thanks for your comments and suggestions, these are important to us as we strive to continually improve our tours. We look forward to you joining us on another Titan adventure, Best Wishes, Deb Titan Travel

Excellent tour guide

Excellent tour guide, Karen Macguire, she was a star 🌟 The Andaluccia tour was excellent, covering all of the places well even though a bit hectic at times due to short time in some places.

Our honest opinion of our Tuscan Experience

We recently experienced the Essence of Tuscany tour 12 - 19th June. Our first hotel the Montecatini Palace - was a very far fetched description of a palace! Our room was absolutely awful, dingy, small, one small old fashioned wardrobe, no coffee making facilities, awful decor, hot and stuffy with two small single beds. So we asked if they had a better room and we were given the family room on the top floor with fine views with opening windows to let in some light and air. The restaurant was super though and the staff were very good with preparing special meals for my gluten/egg free diet. They went out of their way to accommodate me. The itinerary was full on with little time for rest in between visits to the beautiful countryside and hill top villages that surround the area. I am sure some of the older guests would have welcomed a little later starts to the days out. But we saw a lot and the local guides in Florence, Lucca and Siena were very informative. Unfortunately, the bus/coach that we travelled on for the first 3 days was rather elderly and the driver had one or two problems with it, in as much as it was worn out. He struggled to get reverse gear getting us out of the airport, the air-conditioning was useless, the seats were collapsing and the noise from the underside of the bus was quite worrying. We thought we were about to brake down any minute. I would have expected better from Titan. The information we got from Titan was incorrect in as much as it had changed from the original. The times and days were altered without us being informed, which was not very useful. I do not think we would use Titan again.

Southern Sights & Sounds

I have Just returned from the Southern Sights & Sounds tour which I thoroughly enjoyed. The size of the group was perfect & my fellow travellers were great company. The tour manager Steve Pritchard did a great job organising the trips & timings giving us the right amount of time to make the most out of our tours. The printed sheets that Steve handed out every couple of days were extremely useful & gave us a clear idea of timings etc. Nothing was too much trouble for Steve or Ron (our driver) & between them the transferring of our cases to our rooms & back on to the bus was well organised. The tour lived up to my expections. I found the mix of the social history & the music was well balanced. Thank you to Steve, Ron & my fellow travellers for making my holiday such a great one.

Hi Sue, Thanks so much for sharing such a great review of your recent trip. We're delighted to hear that you had a fabulous time and that Steve, Ron and the team did such a great job. Don't try calling after reserving/ booking

Very quick to answer the phone when you are interested in booking your tour/ holiday. Very hard to get an answer once you have done that! The 'let us call you back' service does not work. I next gave up after 8 mins because dinner was ready. Today I was determined to wait the call out but again gave up after 25min and 20 seconds. Sorry guys, you've lost this booking! Edit: As you replied to me Deb, I was on the phone for another 22 minutes and it was answered by the Katrina. She answered all my queries and promised to call back to take my deposit. Which she has not done 36hrs later. Titan staff appear to be vastly over-worked and unable to give the support that they would like to give.

Hi Mike, We're really sorry to hear about your booking experience. This is clearly not the kind of feedback we hope to receive. If you could please send your contact details through to [email protected], our agents will contact you directly to assist further. We do hope that we can answer your queries and that you will still consider us for your next trip, Best Wishes, Deb Titan Travel

Southern Sights and Sounds

The holiday was excellent. We shared some amazing experiences with a great group. The organisation of the tour was key to our enjoyment. The Tour Manager, Steve Pritchard, was very organised, producing detailed information so we knew what was happening each day. He managed every aspect of the holiday and did it with a smile and enthusiasm. Our only criticism of the holiday was with the admin prior to departure. Titan provide excellent holidays but their admin (responses to emails and phone calls) is poor. More staff and swift communication with customers is needed. If this improves they would get five stars!

Hi, Thanks for taking the time to share your review. We're so pleased to hear that you had a wonderful time and that Steve and the team did such a great job. Titan quick response to issue…

Following on from our review regarding lack of urgency from Titan after our original holiday had been cancelled. The next day Titan got in touch, apologised for what had happened and assured us that they would sort another date for us asap. This they did with our agent within 48 hours and we are now very pleased and have confidence that our holiday experience with Titan in Kenya will be amazing.

Hi, Thanks so much for taking the time to update your review We're so pleased that our agents were able to resolve your issues and restore your faith in us. We hope you have a wonderful time exploring Kenya, Best Wishes, Deb Titan Travel

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID I booked a holiday with Titan Travel including door to door road transfers, with a departure of 14.00 British Airways from Heathrow. Just before final payment in May 2024 Titan changed the departure to 07.00 Easyjet from London Gatwick. I live 112 miles from Heathrow. Gatwick is even further away. I complained to Titan and the booking agent that the change of carrier, seven hour difference of departure time and airport, was unacceptable. I was advised by Titan and the booking agent to organise travel the day before and pay for a hotel. I booked a holiday for a specific departure date. Not the day before. I am a typical older, single client that SAGA/Titan specialise in. I emailed my complaint direct to Titan. Titan eventually responded, not to me, but to my booking agent. Titan alleged they had tried to contact me by phone and told the agent they were “not lucky” in getting hold of me. Luck is not part of a £3000 contract for a holiday. I have no record of missed calls on my phone and no voice mail from Titan. Titan advised verbally via the agent the flight change was insignificant and part of their Terms and conditions, and there was nothing they would do further. Titan seems to think there is no difference between a daytime three hour road transfer to Heathrow for 11.00 check in and sleepless overnight, four hour minimum, road transfer to Gatwick for a 04.00 check in. Titan have a complete disregard and dismissive attitude to their customers. They do not respond directly to a complaint. The flight change completely compromises wellbeing in the first days of the holiday, stressful and totally disruptive. And Titan think this is fine. Titan is an appalling operator to be avoided, they do not respond to direct complaints and advertise/sell misleading flight times designed to entice the elderly SAGA customer. Avoid Titan.

Great tours once you get to your destination.

Have now enjoyed more than 10 Titan Tours since 2012. As usual our most recent tour- Southern Sights and Sounds- was well planned with a variety of excursions and activities. Our Tour Manager, Steve Pritchard, supplied written information of both daily and forthcoming timings. He gave up his own time to familiarise guests with the locations we were staying at as well as making suggestions for where to eat and how to spend free time. We were on this tour as the extended Southern Sights tour we had booked was cancelled, without an explanation, two months before we were due to travel. Fortunately our Travel Councillor, unlike us, was able to obtain prompt responses from Customer Services, rebook a new Tour and resolve any queries we had. Unlike some other companies, Titan do not reward loyal customers and do not provide incentives to book directly with them. Given the appalling number of complaints about the Customer Services Department I would advise people to book via a Travel Agent.

Absolutely first class experience on my…

Absolutely first class experience on my recent Deluxe Alaskan Voyage.everything ran smoothly and our tour guide John Allen was excellent throughout. His organisation, interesting information and good humour all added to a memorable holiday. Nothing was too much trouble for him. As a company I would be more than happy to use Titan again in the future.

Southern sights and sound

This was our first tour with Titan. The Southern sights and sounds. Steve Pritchard was our Tour manager. From the moment we met at the airport nothing was too much trouble. The Tour it self was packed, so much to see in such a short time, Steve's words""this is a tour not a holiday". But having said that we came back full of Southern history and would have never have seen so much. My personal favourite was an evening at the Grand Ole Oprey, was everything I hoped and more!. Downside, came back a few kgs heavier.

Hi Helen, Thanks for taking the time to share such a great review for your recent Southern Sights and Sounds trip. It sounds like you had a fun packed time and that you made some great memories with Steve and the team. We look forward to helping you with your future travel plans, Best Wishes, Nick Titan Travel

Just had a fantastic week in…

Just had a fantastic week in Sorrento/Amalfi coast. The trips to Sorrento, Pompeii, Positano, Amalfi and Capri were wonderful! Also did additional trips on the land train and to Herculaneum which were also great. Hotel (grand hermitage) was lovely and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Our tour manager Michele was second to none.

Titan Travel Hidden Treasures of Sardinia

We had a large group of people who all got on and were led by our Tour Manager Tom Doveston who was amazing. He made the tour great fun and the itinerary was varied and interesting. We had a few local guides too in Cagliari and Alghero who went into the history of Sardinia. All the hotels we were in were fine. Only one had a kettle for tea & coffee and that was in Oristano. Nowadays we get used to making our drinks when we return from excursions. Apart from that, great coach travel around the island, the Agriturismo (farm visits) were lovely. The food and people gave us more of an insight into Sardinia. Cagliari was an amazing capital city to explore, Alghero was a beautiful place. Personally I would like to stay longer there. The last hotel, Hotel Marana has an amazing pool and the beach is a 10-minute walk. The Marina is just a bit further where you’ll find a souvenir shop, restaurants, gelato and a supermarket nearby. Marinella station is a 5-minute walk from this hotel and the train takes 15 minutes to get into Olbia which is worth doing. We also added an extra 3 nights at the end of this group tour to stay longer and relax or explore a bit more on our own. We booked this extension with Titan at the time of booking the holiday. We also want to say how great Becky was on booking this for us with the extension. So lovely, friendly and did everything we asked. Anyway we thoroughly recommend this holiday and if you get Tom Doveston to be your tour Manager it will be your lucky day. He is the Hidden Treasure on this trip! Nothing is too much trouble and he is always in control and doesn’t flap. Thank you Tom and also to our fellow travellers for making this so enjoyable.

Titan/Saga: Mobility required for Level 2 holidays

Hi Deb. Thank you for your response to my review. However, I’m afraid you have missed the point I was making in respect of mobility. It is not Saga giving advice, it is people being in denial of their mobility and booking inappropriate tours. On our recent tour, some folk were clearly in denial about their mobility and booked a level 2 holiday when it was clearly beyond their ability to walk at a moderate pace. This became a issue for those quite rightly wanting to enjoy the holiday they had booked. Hence my comment about the tour guide’s authority being made clear in holiday confirmation.

titan travel river cruise reviews

  • Cologne to Basel

Titan Travel VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your flight to Düsseldorf. Upon arrival, transfer to Cologne and embark MS Serenade 1  where light refreshments are available.

Where the Rhine and the Moselle rivers meet sits Koblenz. We’ll spend the morning wandering the city’s string of charming squares as part of our included tour, before taking the cable car up to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress – the perfect vantage point to snap a postcard view of the rivers below.

Day 2 - Koblenz

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

After breakfast, take your spot up on the sundeck to get the best views of the magnificent scenery as we sail the Lorelei Passage – famed as the most beautiful stretch of the Rhine. We arrive in pretty Rüdesheim with the afternoon to explore. Here, the town is full of timber-framed houses and surrounded by vast vineyards.

Day 3 - Koblenz - Lorelei Passage - Rüdesheim

This pastel-pretty town is easily explored by foot, which is a real treat as it boasts so many original pre-WWII features. We’ll enjoy a walking city tour taking in the incredible synagogue and looming cathedral.

Day 4 - Speyer

Having changed hands a few times over the years, Strasbourg has both French and German influences, giving it a multi-cultural flavour. Here, the great Gothic cathedral sits obediently next to the quaint Petite France district. We’ll see all the best bits on our city tour and canal cruise this afternoon.

Day 5 - Strasbourg

Nestled among the vineyards between the Rhine and the Black Forest – with French neighbours just across the river in Alsace, it’s little wonder Breisach is a town of good food and good wine. The town’s cobbled streets and pastel buildings are overlooked by St Stephen’s Cathedral. Explore at leisure, or join us on an optional excursion to Lake Titisee, where you’ll enjoy a cruise and some free time soaking up the peaceful ambience.

Day 6 - Breisach

The ‘city for art lovers’, Basel is known for its wealth of galleries, museums and iconic buildings. You’ll have the whole day at leisure to discover the charming architecture and winding streets. Alstadt, on the Rhine’s south bank, and Kleinbasel are two particularly appealing areas, both great for people-watching. This evening we’ll enjoy the captain’s gala farewell dinner on board.

Day 7 - Basel

This morning, we disembark and transfer to Montreux. Nestled on the shores of Lake Geneva surrounded by snow covered Swiss Alps, Montreux has an irresistible elegance that has kept visitors coming since the writers, artists and musicians of the 19th century. We’ll head out this afternoon to try our first glass of delicious regional wine. 4* Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic Montreux

Day 8 - Basel - Montreux

From the flower-lined promenade that runs along the water’s edge, you’ll see the magnificent Chillon Castle in the distance. We start the day with a scenic boat ride to the castle. This wonderful lakeside fortress has been a toll station and a summer residence of the Counts of Savoy, as well as an arsenal and a prison. Take some time to explore independently before we continue to Aigle Castle. Surrounded by sprawling vineyards, this turreted medieval château has strong roots in the local wine industry. We’ll explore the Vine and Wine Museum before tasting the fine wine produced here.

We wave goodbye to Montreux this morning as we board a train to Brig, where we join the mythical Glacier Express, the world’s slowest express train, to Chur. The spectacular journey takes us along the river Rhone and into the narrow Upper Rhone Valley, across the Oberalp Pass and down into the dramatic Rhine Gorge. Whatever you do, don’t forget your camera. On arrival in Chur, we’ll check into the 4* ABC Swiss Quality Hotel  for the evening.

Day 10 - Glacier Express - Chur

This morning we transfer to the airport for the return flight to the UK. Upon arrival, your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.

Titan sub implosion highlights "extreme tourism" boom, but adventure can bring peril

By Irina Ivanova

Edited By Alain Sherter

Updated on: June 23, 2023 / 5:49 PM EDT / MoneyWatch

The death of five people on the Titan sub highlights the surge in what some are calling "extreme tourism," in which generally well-heeled travelers scale remote mountains, paraglide into canyons, ski down slopes accessible only by helicopter and embark on other exciting — but potentially risky — adventures.

This summer, for example, a record 106,000 tourists are expected to set foot in Antarctica after crossing the Drake Passage, a stretch of violent sea between South America and Antarctica. The Nepalese government this year also granted a record number of permits to climb Mount Everest, despite concerns about overcrowding and a spike in deaths that put 2023 on track to be one of the  deadliest  for the world's tallest mountain.

For $2,500, adventurers in search of warmer climes can book a week-long survival trek in the Guyanese jungle  or go on a 10-day trip to the remote Solomon Islands, learning to fish and forage from the locals and then being transported to a desert island to put those skills to the test (cost: $42,000 and up.) Pelorus, a luxury travel company that arranged the Solomon Islands trip for a mother and her son, also offers customized experiences like trekking in Alaska ($19,600) or a three-week private-jet tour of the world ($178,000.)

The adventure travel business was worth nearly $300 billion last year and is projected to hit $1 trillion in a decade, according to a report from consulting firm Grand View Research.

The price of experience

Demand for adventure travel has shot up since COVID-19, according to Dan Richards, CEO of Global Rescue, a company that evacuates travelers in the event of a medical or other emergency.

"As opposed to sitting in a hotel somewhere and going to a museum or two, people want experiential travel — they want to go and actually do something," he said.

"I think we're seeing people trading aspirational purchases," Richards added. Where once people might have splurged on a Porsche, now "they're saying, I'm not going to spend $100,000 on the car, I'm going to take five trips to Africa with my family."

African safaris have seen the fastest growth, Richards said, with coverage for safari trips up 75% from last year. Hiking and camping trips are up nearly 50%, in a continuation of pandemic-era trends, and demand for motorcycle tours has also increased.

Along with rising disposable incomes and a growing desire for "authentic"  experiences in an increasingly globalized and connected world, social media is also playing a role in the adventure travel boom, Richards believes.

"People are definitely going after the bucket-list experiences," he said.

Carl Shephard, cofounder of Insider Expeditions, a boutique travel company, has also seen demand for his services skyrocket in the aftermath of the pandemic.

"We've never been busier as a company," he told CBS MoneyWatch.

Shepherd described his typical clients as people in their 30s or 40s who "are tight on time and want to spend money in the most epic way possible."

The company last year organized a cruise from South America to Antarctica with Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band; earlier this year, it brought 200 entrepreneurs on a spiritual journey up the Nile River. Clients frequently request space flights as well as trips to extremely remote islands.

"We like to push the envelope in terms of experience, not in terms of safety," he added.

Still, the pursuit of adventure raises the risk that things can go wrong.

On Friday, when he spoke with CBS MoneyWatch, Richards said that Global Rescue was in the process of arranging transport for a traveler who had crashed his motorcycle in a remote part of Mongolia to a hospital in the country's capital, Ulaanbaatar.

A day earlier, the company also evacuated three travelers from a paragliding expedition in the Kashmir region of the Karakoram, the rugged mountain chain that spans five Asian countries — one man who had a heart attack, a companion who injured himself rushing to his aid and a third person with severe gastrointestinal distress.

In a typical year, Richards said his company will help rescue between 2,000 and 3,000 travelers, most for medical reasons.

"If you dream it, you can do it"

The growth of extreme tourism also reflects the commercial opportunities in allowing the moneyed masses to engage in the kind of exploits once reserved for hardened professionals.

Blue Origin, the commercial space exploration company started by Jeff Bezos, touts its mission to fly " customer astronauts " to space (at a price ascending into the tens of millions of dollars), with the Amazon founder himself among those exploring the final frontier . And Virgin Galactic, the company launched by British billionaire Richard Branson to enable commercial spaceflight, declares in its marketing materials that "space belongs to everyone: the adventurous, the audacious and the curious."

OceanGate, the company that made the 21-foot sub that suffered what U.S. Coast Guard officials described as a " catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber ," charged  $250,000 for an eight-day, seven-night excursion to see the wreckage of the Titanic. A three-day trip to "explore hydrothermal vents" in the Azores archipelago off Portugal also costs $250,000, according to the company's website .

OceanGate's site also invites prospective clients to "follow in Jacques Cousteau's footsteps and become an underwater explorer," enticing them to "join the adventure of a lifetime."

Such marketing pitches can attract customers unable to either properly assess the risks or withstand the hardships of what are by design often arduous, envelope-pushing journeys.

"We're certainly seeing an influx of people who are not well suited to do these things," said Global Rescue's Richards. "One would think there would be some kind of test."

"A lot of the self-care and self-help message that people are receiving is, 'If you dream it you can do it,'" he continued. "That kind of aspirational messaging is good for society overall but can be life-threatening if you take it too far."

Patrick Luff, founder of the Texas-based Luff Law Firm, expressed concern that the growing popularity of adventure travel would attract fly-by-night operators that might cut corners on safety or security. After all, a traveler drawn in by a slick website advertising once-in-a-lifetime thrills can't easily judge the strength of the company's equipment or the training and knowledge of its staff.

"If you have a huge demand for a risky behavior… you can get unsophisticated entrants into the market," he said. "Whether that's an inexperienced skydiving operation or a submarine company with a tin can and a dream, that's what really becomes concerning."

Titan holidays - Unexpected extra costs!

Do like Titan holidays and had a fab one last year! When booking this holiday the cost went up by several hundred pounds each at the booking stage but a full explanation, other than the cost can go up and down, was not given. I did phone them back and found out that the seat allocation on the plane was full and now had to pay for seats to get on the plane! This has happened even though still 4 months to go before the holiday! This has never happened to me before for any holiday over the last 5 plus decades! My point is, just be aware of this possible 'extreme' kind of increase in prices. It's a special anniversary this year so decided would have to absorb this cost

Hi Clifford, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your booking experience. We are very sorry to hear about the service you received from us - this is undoubtedly not the high standard we hold ourselves to. We do hope that despite this, you have a fantastic holiday with us. Best Wishes, Nick Titan Travel

Hotel changes at the last minute…

Have travelled with Titan in the past and had good experiences. Most recently I booked with a number of friends for their Royal Rajahstan tour. I was dismayed after we had paid our full balance and only a few weeks prior to travel when one of the hotels was changed, and even more disturbed when days before departure there was a further change of hotel. This meant that a third of our trip was in hotels other than those advertised. The first change was from a really attractive lakeside venue to a generic dismal venue. The second was 13 km from the centre of the city we were visiting, in such a remote area that many tuk tuk drivers did not know where it was,and one of those who drove us had to stop and ask for directions. I complained to the company but was really not happy with the response.I would be wary of booking with them again or recommending them.

So easy to book

It was so easy to book online. Had a few questions so emailed Titan and Stacey Clark was just wonderful. Very patient with us and all our questions. She was very promp at answering them. Within hours. We know we are in the right hands travelling with Titan now. As older travellers we need to know a lot of different things about our travels now. Stacey was very understanding and gave us all the details we wanted to know about transfers seats etc. Also how to go about getting any help we may need.

Hi Sandra, We are looking forward to seeing you on your Titan holiday. Thank you for your kind comments about Stacey. Kind regards, Nick Titan Travel

Poor administration

I have travelled with Titan for over 25 years and have enjoyed every holiday. But recently, since the takeover by SAGA, your administration is deplorable. I have booked a tour of Australia but cannot access the My Titan section to pay for the trip. Every time I try to log on the message 'your details are incorrect' comes up. Speaking to one of your advisors, I am told it is a computer glitch. This has been going on for 6 months now. When will it be fixed or is there another way to pay online?

Hi Rod, Please can you email our Customer Service Team on [email protected] with your booking reference and we will ensure to resolve your issues with your My Titan account. Kind regards, Nick Titan Travel

Journey through Eastern Canada…

Journey through Eastern Canada 05/09/23-15/09/23 This was my first experience with Titan Travel and my first trip abroad as a solo traveller. I had longed for a trip to top my bucket list. I was celebrating my 30th Birthday during this and is an experience I shall never forget! My Journey through Eastern Canada is a trip I will always remember and is one I will recommend to those interested in City life, architecture, history and a bit of country. I visited Toronto, Niagara Falls, Ottawa, Quebec City, Montreal and Kingston. All fantastic especially Niagara Falls as this was on my bucket list. I embarked on the Hornblower cruise and took to the skies in a helicopter to view the falls… just wow!!! The service I received was excellent! VIP door to door service was punctual and friendly, the Tour Manager ‘Robyn Mitchell’ deserves full credit! Very passionate, her knowledge was just phenomenal which showed in the way she talked about Canada. She ensured that our experience was fulfilled and went the extra mile to ensure we all had a great experience. Very well organised with an easy to follow schedule and guide which made our trip run very smoothly. The coach driver William also deserves full credit for his friendly service and always went the extra mile to enhance our experience through his fantastic local knowledge. Overall I was fully satisfied with the whole experience and services provided by Titan Travel and I am hoping to embark on to another trip in the near future.

Best of Australia

We have travelled with Titan at least five times. Everything has always been very well organised and run smoothly. Something has gone terribly wrong with their booking system. This time we wanted quotes for two extensions. This took from the beginning of November until 22/12/23. This tour was being held for me until 31/12/23. When I tried to pay a deposit on the 29/12/23, I was informed it had been cancelled. The new quote was £1,200 more expensive!! 11/1/24 Today, I have received a phone call from Lisa. (The consultant who managed to sort out all of our problems). She was very apologetic for everything that had gone wrong with our booking and has offered compensation, which we have accepted.

Hi Jennifer, We are sorry to hear about your experience, and we appreciate you taking the time to provide a review. We will ensure, a member of our Sales Team reaches out to you to assist you with any further concerns you may have and regains your confidence. Kind regards, Nick Titan Travel

I booked the Best of New Zealand…

I booked the Best of New Zealand through Peaks Travel in Shropshire. All went well until I arrived in Christchurch after more than 24 hours of travel to find that there was no one to meet me. I walked around the airport for an hour, asked at Information and was told to buy a sim for my phone and ring the U.K. There was a free phone number but no one answered. After sometime I rang the hotel and they confirmed I had a booking. I got a taxi and got myself to the hotel. The tour director had left a message on reception to say she hoped I had had a good journey! Why had she not rang the airport to see if I was waiting there. There were only 3 of us coming in from Birmingham and the other two had been collected. I did meet the tour manager and she said that my transfer was not included. I pointed out that the reason I had booked this holiday was that I was a single lady pensioner and I had been assured that I would be escorted door to door. I then worried that my transfer back from the Bay of Islands to Auckland was included. She sent an email to Titan who said that my transfer was not included, my travel agent sent an email to say it was. All this was absolutely no use to me whatsoever. Remarkably on the last day at 5 in the morning while we had breakfast the tour manager said she had had an email from Titan to say she could reimburse my taxi fare. Strange as this is the day that we tip people for their services to us. I paid £7K for this holiday because of the hefty single person supplement. I was assured that someone from Titan would be contacting me to explain what had happened. That was at the end of November. I rang and was assured that my complaint would go to the top of the pile. I have heard nothing. I was also booked to go to Japan in April with this company. I came home and cancelled with loss of deposit. I can speak English, I cannot speak Japanese. Really bad customer service to leave a lady on her own after a long flight. No one wants to grasp the nettle and sort this out. Other people who flew into London had problems with their flights and they were flying Business Class.

Perfect so far!

We had been considering a trip to Australia over some years and felt that the Titan tour best met our needs. We have also been on many escorted tours previously and enjoy this form of travel so all in all this trip was ideal for us. We booked over the phone as we wanted to enquire about a deviation on the return journey and Titan were very helpful in responding to our request.

Holidays are great but so many problems with bookings

I have no problems with actual Titan Holidays once you are on them. However I have had so many problems with lack of communication, mistakes with bookings. I’ve waited for phone calls that never came, been missed off lists, promised a refund that I haven’t got, I’ve tried to be understanding as I know how busy and they are. But it’s been incredibly stressful, really not a good experience at all. Sorry, I hate to be negative but I’m so tired of no response from them. I will repeat, the holidays are good, sadly customer services are too stretched to respond.

With very limited choices we were cajoled into changing it to a Portugal tour. It was in the brochure at around £1,500 each, but TITAN suddenly added a (17% price increase) another £600 plus the flight extras making it almost £4,000 for a weeks holiday for 2.
