All our wishes came true when a new Disney cruise ship made its grand debut last summer. The Disney Wish joined the fleet in 2022 with a collection of innovative and exciting experiences for the whole family to enjoy. Here are some of the enchanted offerings you’ll find aboard the newest ship:

1. Welcome Aboard

As you board the Disney Wish, your party will be greeted by name, and a bronze-sculpted Cinderella will welcome you into the Grand Hall. The Disney Wish is the first ship in the fleet to have an atrium stage where princesses and princes alike will make special appearances throughout your sailing. If you visit the Grand Hall at either 10 p.m. or midnight, you will be delighted with a magical moment and a special kiss goodnight.

2. Signature Dining

Rotational dining ensures all guests can enjoy all three themed dining experiences while on board. Your party and service team will rotate to a different table service restaurant each night. As part of your rotational dining experience on the Disney Wish, you’ll be transported to the golden age of animation at 1923 , assemble for an action-packed Avengers mission at Worlds of Marvel , and enjoy a dining experience worth melting for at Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure .

3. Broadway-Style Entertainment

Spend your first night on board at a live performance of “ Disney Seas the Adventure ,” a heartwarming story featuring songs and characters from some of your favorite Disney films. If you love the classics, you won’t want to miss an evening of unbelievable sights and indescribable feelings at “ Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular .” After a long day in the sand, sit back and enjoy the hot crustacean band at a theatrical retelling of the animated film “ The Little Mermaid .” 

4. Adult-Exclusives

The Disney Wish is home to a variety of luxurious experiences for adults to unwind and indulge in. The fan-favorite adults-only dining experience, Palo, has evolved to Palo Steakhouse , offering the carefully crafted Italian cuisine you know and love in addition to the world’s finest steaks. Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement is an elegant restaurant where adults can enjoy a gourmet menu of exceptional French-inspired fare. These two “Beauty and the Beast”-inspired restaurants are sure to satisfy your tastebuds. Don’t believe me? Ask the dishes! Check out the collection of bars and lounges on board for late-night drinks, dancing, and entertainment.

For an adults-only spa experience unlike any other, visit Senses Spa. The Rainforest on the Disney Wish is the first to encompass indoor and outdoor spaces where adults can relax and rejuvenate. The indoor space features heated loungers, an aromatherapy steam room, a dry sauna, and an all-new ice room. The first-of-its-kind outdoor area offers a private oasis complete with whirlpool spas and comfortable lounging areas.

5. Just for Kids

While adults take advantage of those exclusive experiences, the rest of your crew can enjoy age-appropriate, supervised fun at the Kids Clubs. The Oceaneer Club is home to interactive themed experiences, like Walt Disney Imagineering Lab, where aspiring Imagineers can get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to bring Disney magic to life. They’ll even have a chance to participate in hands-on experiments and design their very own attraction! The young Avengers onboard can put their skills to the test and suit up for a virtual battle at Marvel Super Hero Academy.

6. Poolside Fun

Whether you’re looking to go for a swim or just get your feet wet, the Disney Wish has got you covered! The entire family can make a splash in the reimagined pool deck area, featuring six pools of various depths and sizes. If you’re a thrill-seeker, check out the AquaMouse , the first-ever attraction at sea. This exciting new water coaster with animated scenes and special effects will take you on a journey above the upper decks.

Disney Wish Cruise Ship: Complete Guide and Review

Disney launched its fifth cruise ship in July 2022.  After a ten years with no new ships, expectations were high for the newest cruise ship in the Disney fleet.  In many ways, the Disney Wish cruise ship has completely smashed expectations; but there are a few areas where we feel that it may have fallen just a tiny bit short of its potential.

That said, we also know you want to have all the information to make your own decision and determine if it’s the right ship for you.  So, here we’ll present a complete guide to all the facts and figures of the Disney Wish.  We’ll also provide reviews of the ship and its venues. Whether you’re still planning your first Disney Cruise or are a Pearl-level Castaway Club member , there’s a lot to learn about the newest ship in the fleet!

Disney Wish Ship Overview

In many of the big categories, the Disney Wish is exactly like the other Disney Cruise ships. But once you start looking at smaller details, there are a lot of differences.

You still have four main types of passenger staterooms with lots of individual categories and subcategories.  But some of those individual categories include never-before-seen rooms like a Tower Suite that’s actually located inside one of the giant red funnels (smokestacks) on top of the ship.

There are still three main restaurants onboard for your nightly dinner rotation , but two of them feature live entertainment during your meal.

There’s still a gigantic kids club area that takes up almost an entire deck, but it’s much more intricately themed than prior offerings.

There’s still a waterslide-type ride onboard, but it adds some video animation effects to “plus up” the ride.

How is the Wish Different from Other Disney Cruise Line Ships?

The Disney Magic and Disney Wonder are sister ships to one-another, meaning that they are more or less structurally identical to each other.  Similarly, the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy are sister ships.  As of 2023, the Disney Wish is distinct from all other Disney Cruise Line Ships.  Disney Wish is expected to eventually have two sister ships: the Disney Treasure is set to begin sailing in December 2024, and the Disney Destiny is expected to be completed sometime in 2025.  Separately, another Disney ship — the Disney Adventure — is also expected to join the fleet in 2025, but it will be different from all the others.

Now let’s look at some of the major elements of this fantastic new ship!

Disney Wish Staterooms

Let’s start by looking at where your own private quarters onboard the ship.  Your stateroom (passenger cabin) is the equivalent of your resort hotel room at sea, and this ship has plenty of them!

The Disney Wish has 1,254 staterooms.  Each of those staterooms falls into one of four primary types of rooms; each of those four types is further divided into multiple categories and subcategories.  Which category you choose will have a rather substantial impact on the cost of your cruise, so it’s wise to research ahead.

Our Review of Disney Wish Staterooms

Our reviewers felt that the Disney Wish staterooms were generally a welcome evolution to the staterooms found onboard the Disney Dream and Fantasy.

The rooms struck a nice balance between being a simple “refresh” of the existing stateroom plans versus a more-radical “reimagining” of everything.  There was innovation to be found, but there was not necessarily any change just for the sake of changing.

With the same general features — but updated, fresher decor — they offered a bright retreat that never felt dark or enclosed.  There’s still plenty of room to stow luggage and belongings so you can truly “move in” for the length of your cruise.  Split bathrooms, which are crucial to the morning getting ready routing, remain as a standard feature in almost every category.

Some innovations came with slight drawbacks.  Compared to staterooms on earlier ships, we were happy to notice larger televisions — but with less of an ability to “articulate” them to face toward where you are sitting.  And there’s a new drawer-style refrigerator, which is perfectly fine for cans of soda, but may or may not be convenient for other items you’re chilling.

As far as cons go: the Disney Dream/Fantasy’s “magical portholes” (circular video screens with live video views of outside) sadly did not make their way to the Wish’s inside staterooms, which instead opt for giant mural-style artwork behind the bed.  And one could argue that perhaps just a bit of the “nautical” theme is gone from these stateroom versus those of the prior ships.  None of those is likely to bother you enough to make you rethink your voyage.

Disney Wish Dining and Lounges

Pretty much everybody knows that one of the biggest draws on any cruise ship is the food.  The Disney Wish is no exception, with three outstanding main dining restaurants, two elegant adult-only dining options, and plenty of places to grab a quick meal or a snack on the go.

Cruise Dining Tip: Thanks to the international crew and clientele of Disney Cruise Line, you’ll often find international fare onboard the cruise ships. One of the things I look forward to on every cruise is my daily breakfast; that’s because in addition to the usual bacon and eggs, I can enjoy things I can’t normally get stateside — like a hearty bowl of European muesli with dried fruits and nuts, or even an Asian-inspired breakfast fried rice and miso porridge. At dinner, I’ll eagerly try something new and maybe even a little scary because it doesn’t cost anything extra to try!  Occasionally my suspicions that I won’t like something are confirmed in no uncertain terms, but most of the time I find myself pleasantly surprised.  Turns out I absolutely love escargot — who knew?! Either way, I’ve tried something new and the worst possible outcome is one unpleasant bite that didn’t lighten my wallet by a single penny.  So go ahead… order the pâté and broaden those cultural and culinary horizons!  You might just surprise yourself with how sophisticated your palate can be!

Rotational Dining Restaurants on the Disney Wish

Like all Disney Cruise Ships, the Disney Wish offers something called  rotational dining during the nightly dinner service — a Disney Cruise Line innovation.  Rotational dining doesn’t mean you’re sitting in a revolving restaurant.  Diners are pre-scheduled to visit a different restaurant on each night of the cruise on a schedule called a dining rotation.

You pick a dining time when you make your reservation, but otherwise there’s no need to pre-reserve your spot.  You’ll always be at (for example) table 29 during the 8:15PM seating on every night of the cruise, no matter which restaurant you’re scheduled to be in.  And you’ll have the same waitstaff for the duration of the cruise, so they’ll get to know you, bring you your favorite drinks right away, and remember how you like your steak cooked.

Dinner at these three restaurants is included in the cost of your cruise.

You may also have a chance to dine at one of these restaurants for breakfast or lunch at no additional cost, but note that the menu will vary and you won’t experience any of the “show” aspects noted in the descriptions below.

Here are the three rotational dining restaurants on the Disney Wish:

• Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure

One of the most eagerly-anticipated experiences onboard is Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure .  At this restaurant, you’re an honored guest of Queen Anna and Kristoff as they celebrate their engagement (right around the time that the movie Frozen 2 ends).

Of course you’ll find Norwegian-inspired cuisine and Frozen-themed items, such as the Frozen Fractals cocktail, Worth Melting For non-alcoholic specialty drink, Elsa’s Royal Baked Scallops, Sven’s Favorite Carrot Soup, Arendelle Kjottkake (meatballs), Queen Iduna’s Potato Lefse, and Norwegian Pancake Roulade for dessert.

But the real star of dinner is the live entertainment.  Thanks to a stage at the center of the dining room, you’ll enjoy a great view of live musical performances from Elsa and Olaf, along with other frozen friends.  Even Wandering Oaken wanders in.  And thanks to a little Disney magic, you’ll feel as if you’re right in the middle of the Aurora Borealis (northern lights)

Our reviewers were blown away by their experience here and ranked it as the top must-see, must-do, do-not-miss-it offering onboard.  The menu offered a nice mix that’s sure to please both those who are more adventurous eaters and those who would rather stick to things they know and love.

The food is good enough, but this experience is all about the show.

Thanks to a theatre-in-the-round setup, there’s a good view from pretty much anywhere in the dining room.  Our reviewers were seated outside of the central ring of tables, but still had a good view (with the exception of an occasional person walking between the tables and the stage).

They felt it was much better than a traditional character meal , even for jaded adults.  Compared to, say, a Cinderella’s Royal Table (Magic Kingdom) or Restaurant Akershus (EPCOT), the quality of the character entertainment and interactions is in a class by itself.  The characters sing and lead interactive activities, but also take breaks from the show to stop by and visit your table.  Even Olaf wheels in on a serving cart to delight diners (somewhat reminiscent of the table visits Remy made at EPCOT’s Chefs de France many years ago).

• Worlds of Marvel

This super hero themed restaurant offers a worldly menu inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Like the Arendelle restaurant, there’s a “dinner and a show” aspect to dining at Worlds of Marvel .  You’ll also get an up-close (and maybe too personal) demonstration of Super Hero technologies, with appearances by Ant-Man and the Wasp.  Fortunately everything turns out alright in time for dessert.

Sample menu items include the Widow’s Bite cocktail, Steamed Bao Buns, Cream of Porcini Mushroom Soup, Berbere Spiced Pork Chop, Ricotta Gnocchi, and Subatomic Sticky Date Pudding.

Our Review of Worlds of Marvel

If you’re familiar with the Animator’s Palate level of interactivity onboard other Disney Cruise Ships, you’ll have the same  general idea about Worlds of Marvel.  Indeed, the Disney Wish is the first Disney cruise ship  not to have an Animator’s Palate restaurant onboard — and Worlds of Marvel is likely the closest to that type of experience you’ll find.

Our reviewers enjoyed the (admittedly limited) interactive elements of the show; much like onboard Mission: Space at EPCOT or Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you’ll find yourself tasked with pushing a few buttons on the Quantum Core device at your table to help solve a minor catastrophe.  You’ll have video visits from several characters in the Marvel Universe (yes, the original cast); you’ll also have a brief “walk-by” visit with Ant Man and the Wasp, but don’t expect any major character interactions here.

Our reviewers felt that overall the restaurant was a slight step down versus the Frozen-themed restaurant onboard.  The décor was impressive and the food was “just fine.”

This restaurant offers a dining experience steeped in the golden age of Hollywood.  Named after the year the Disney brothers founded their first studio, you’ll enjoy the flavors of California while surrounded by relics reminiscent of the early days of animation.  You’ll be seated in either the Walt Disney section or the Roy Disney section, but no matter which you’re assigned to, you’re in for a feast for the eyes and the stomach.

Sample menu items include Hyperion Four-Cheese Tri-Color Tortelloni, Pulled Guinea Hen Corn Chowder, Italian Flat Parsley and Rosemary-crusted Rack of Lamb, Moroccan-Spiced Roasted Kabocha & Butternut Squash, Churros Calientes, and Flourless Orange Almond Cake.

Our Review of 1923

Our reviewers felts that dining at 1923 was like dining in a Disney museum (and that’s not a bad thing).  It was a treat to dine surrounded by historic sketches, tickets, and artwork.  There were lots of nostalgic and historic vibes, with an Old Hollywood menu to match.

They felt the menu was perfectly fine, but conceded that nothing they ordered reached “must do again” status.  Our group also dined at 1923 once for breakfast (as an alternative to Marceline Market) and was pleased with the offerings during that meal period.

There’s no entertainment at this restaurant; that’s not unexpected on most Disney ships — but for the Wish, it’s an outlier as the only rotational dining restaurant without a show.  As such, our reviewers felt that this was the restaurant to skip if you’re on a shorter cruise and need to pick a night to experience Palo Steakhouse or Enchanté.

Adult-Exclusive Dining on the Disney Wish

The Disney Wish boasts two fine dining establishments that are offered solely to passengers age 18+.  These dining experiences are not included in the cost of your cruise, so expect to pay a bit more for these unique experiences.  Dress codes also apply, so be sure to pack something nice to wear!

Chef Arnaud Lallement, a three Michelin Star recipient , brings world class luxurious dining onboard the Disney Wish.  This is the premier dining experience onboard, and is priced accordingly.

Enchanté offers dinner service, along with a brunch service on select days of the cruise.  For dinner, enjoy a six-course prix-fixe offering, or select from à la carte items such as Caviar, Wild Halibut, or Maine Lobster.  Menu offerings are rather limited, with a focus on artisanal quality rather than broad quantity.

• Palo Steakhouse

Inspired by Beauty and the Beast ‘s Cogsworth, Palo Steakhouse is a bit different from the Palo restaurant that is already well-known onboard the four prior Disney cruise ships.  This version takes the Italian cuisine concept and elevates it into a steakhouse.

Sample menu items include an Antipasti, a 6oz Grilled Choice Angus Beef Tenderloin, and of course the famed Palo Chocolate Soufflé.  In addition to dinner, the beloved Palo Brunch is also offered here on select days of the cruise.

Our Review of Adult-Exclusive Dining on the Disney Wish

Our reviewers were somewhat limited in their ability to experience the actual cuisine onboard at these two restaurants during their christening, inaugural, and preview cruises.  They did, however, get a chance to tour the facilities and were impressed by the decor and ambiance.

A real bonus of these two restaurants is their outstanding views.  You’ll have a great chance to enjoy sweeping views of the ocean outside the windows while dining here, something that’s mostly missing in the three main restaruants.

Casual Dining on the Disney Wish Cruise Ship

There are plenty of places to enjoy a low-key breakfast, lunch, or dinner onboard the ship.

• Marceline Market

While you might be familiar with Cabanas on the previous four Disney Cruise Line ships, the large buffet-style restaurant on Disney Wish is called Marceline Market. The overall concept is the same — plenty of variety, already cooked, and ready to serve.  It’s great spot for breakfast or lunch — and even for dinner if you’re not thrilled with the menu at your assigned rotation restaurant.

One distinction versus Cabanas is that Marceline Market is set up a bit more like a farmer’s market in that there are individual “stalls” (stations) for different types of food rather than one long buffet line.  At some of these, you’ll serve yourself — at others, a crew member will dish up your food.

Marceline Market is the go-to spot for breakfast and lunch on the ship (though one of the rotational dining restaurants is usually also open for breakfast and lunch).  Almost everything here is included with the cost of your cruise, including sodas, juices, milk, tea, and traditional coffee.  If you want one of the specialty coffees or other premium drinks prepared at the restaurant’s “cafe,” you’ll need to pay separately for those.

At night, Marceline Market transforms into an alternative option for those not interested in dining at their assigned rotational dining restaurant (especially popular for folks who don’t want to observe a semi-formal or formal night on longer cruises).  During dinner, the restaurant provides a table service experience with entrees made to order (still included in the cost of your cruise).

Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods

Located on Deck 11 near the main pool complex is Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods. Here, you can grab a quick bite to eat without even drying off!  The hours are usually pretty generous, too, so if you miss regular lunch and dinner hours at the other restaurants you can still find food here most of the time.  But note that no breakfast items are served here.

This group of quick-service windows offers several unique options, such as Daisy’s Pizza Pies (pizza by the slice), Donald’s Cantina (tacos and burritos), Goofy’s Grill (burgers/dogs and chicken tenders), Mickey’s Smokestack Barbecue (brisket/chicken/pork), and Sweet Minnie’s Ice Cream (as many soft serve ice cream cones as you can handle!).

Like Marceline Market, most of the items here are included with the cost of your cruise.  But you’ll still find specialty drinks available for purchase.

Our Review of Casual Dining on the Disney Wish

Our reviewers appreciated the variety of food offered at Marceline, and also the fact that they had a wide selection of beverages that were included without having to buy an additional beverage package like on other cruise lines.  (While Disney Cruise does offer drink packages for alcoholic beverages , it’s not necessary to purchase one just for sodas, coffee, tea, or juice — those are all already included in the cost of the cruise) .  The generous hours and wide variety of food offered kept our reviewers returning day after day to Marceline Market.

Our reviewers appreciated the convenience of Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods and also found the setup to be “super cute.”  The tacos met with approval, and others in the group who tried the barbecue were happy with their meals, too.  Both of those cuisines are first-time appearances onboard a Disney ship, so we were happy to hear they were well-executed.  They also found it to be a handy spot to stop for a quick snack when everything else was closed.

Lounges, Bars, and Snacks on the Disney Wish

The number of bars and lounges onboard the Disney Wish are almost too numerous to list (though we do, indeed, attempt to do so in our deck-by-deck guide later on this page).  Here, we’ll point out a few of the highlights.

• Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge

For grown-ups wanting to get their Star Wars fix, Hyperspace Lounge is a great spot.  This adult-exclusive lounge features exotic drinks along with a starfield view out the window thanks to some video technology reminiscent of that used in Skyline onboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.  You might even notice a few familiar spaceships jetting by the windows, in between the hyperspace jumps.

Our review of Hyperspace Lounge

Our reviewers placed Hyperspace Lounge among their top three onboard experiences.

The lounge was a bit tough to get into, thanks in part to its small size and big popularity.  When our reviewers visited, there was no reservation system in place and instead it was necessary to wait one’s turn.  Most folks ended up waiting in a de facto overflow space at the nearby Bayou lounge, which was a bit of a thematic “break” from the outer space story.

As such, our reviewers recommended seeing it as early in your voyage as possible… it’s small enough (and highly-anticipated enough) that it might take a few tries to get in.  You definitely don’t wait until 9PM on the last night of your cruise.

Two of our reviewers had also experienced the Galactic Starcruiser on land at Walt Disney World, and couldn’t help but draw comparisons to that location’s Sublight Lounge .  They felt that the land offering was much better because there were fewer limitations (thanks to not being shoehorned into the available space on a ship).  Between the two, Sublight Lounge (on land) felt more real than Hyperspace Lounge (at sea).

Our reviewers noted that while the Hyperspace Lounge was impressive, you might not feel like you have to go back every night… many travelers will probably enjoy it as more of a one-off experience once on their cruise.

• Keg & Compass

Drink up at this Norwegian-inspired bar.  Keg & Compass is designed to feel like a viking ship, but with modern elements including TVs to catch up on the latest sports.  Enjoy three unique craft beers available exclusively onboard.

• Nightingale’s

Fine Wines, handcrafted cocktails, and a shimmering chandelier set the scene at this chill piano bar aboard the Disney Wish.  Your piano player might even know a few obscure Disney parks tunes if you ask politely enough.

The drinkware itself even adds to the theme of this lounge, which is inspired by Cinderella’s rendition of “Sing Sweet Nightingale” from the 1950 Disney classic movie.

Sip a cocktail in an elegant setting, replete with antique mirrors and floating rose petals.  This elegant, adult-exclusive lounge is reminiscent of the enchanted castle from Beauty and the Beast, and is the perfect prelude or postscript to a sophisticated meal at Enchanté or Palo Steakhouse.

New Orleans-inspired cocktails and refreshments are served up in this informal lounge inspired by the magical marsh Disney’s The Princess and the Frog . Among the magnolia blossoms and twinkling fireflies, you’ll find live musical performances and other events.

Room Service on Disney Wish

Many Guests are surprised to learn that Room Service is included at no additional charge on their Disney Cruise.  Almost everything on the room service menu — with the exception of a few items such as prepackaged candies or canned soft drinks — can be brought to your room at no additional charge.  Just don’t forget to tip the Crew Member who brings the food to your door.

You can typically pick from several different salads, soups, burgers, chicken tenders, sandwiches, and hot wings.  You’ll also typically find a couple of flatbreads and pasta selections.  For dessert, cookies and slices of cake/pie are the standard.  A classic DCL favorite item is the  All Hands on Deck , a cheese and fruit plate that is perfect for noshing on as you watch the ocean go by.

If you don’t mind shelling out just a bit of cash, you can add on wines, beer, sodas, specialty coffees, juices, and the like.

Our Review of Room Service on the Disney Wish

Room service on the Disney Wish (or any other Disney Cruise Ship, for that matter) is usually perfectly fine, but there’s very little chance that it’ll be the most memorable meal you have onboard.

Depending on how busy they are, you might have to wait a bit of time for your food; 20-30 minutes is a typical wait time, but it can be longer during traditional meal periods.

Because your food is making an extended trip from the kitchen to your stateroom in a cloche-covered plate — and because your plated meal might have to wait a bit for a runner to become available to bring it to you — some menu items such as french fries and hot wings might not be quite as crisp or warm as you’d like by the time they reach you.

The menu is surprisingly complete, but not necessarily the most exciting.  We’ve never had a bad meal from room service onboard Disney Cruise Line, but none of them have been particularly spectacular, either.  Consider it a somewhat utilitarian option to get food in your stomach without having to change from your bathrobe, and you’ll be set up for room service success.

Best Bets for Each Meal on the Disney Wish

Below we list each of the main meal periods onboard the ship, and your best options for each.

• Primary option: Marceline Market is where most of the ship goes for breakfast.  It offers generous hours, a very wide selection, and plenty of food so you don’t start your day hungry.  The downside of this location is that, well, it’s where most of the ship goes for breakfast.  It can feel a bit hectic at times and might even be a bit of a sensory overload that early in the day.
• Secondary option: One of the three rotational restaurants — typically 1923 — usually offers a table-service breakfast.  The menu is a bit more limited than at Marceline Market, but this can be a less-hectic option than joining the masses there.  You’ll be served at your table — no roaming around to fill your plate or find a table.  And let’s be honest — some mornings, you just need a little more quiet time before you brave all those people .
• Other options: You can opt for room service breakfast, but it’s not the best option.  Room service menu options for breakfast are extremely limited.  You won’t find any “hot breakfast” options — no eggs, bacon, sausage, oatmeal, etc.  You can get juices, coffees, pastries, cold cereals — and not much else.  Does room service breakfast have some merits?  Absolutely.  It’s delightful to have a croissant and a cup of coffee while sitting on your verandah balcony watching the sun rise — but in our view that’s sort of pre-gaming the “real” breakfast.  If you’re looking for a filling meal so you can start the day with a full tank, you’ll need to leave your room.
• Primary option:   Like at breakfast, Marceline Market wins lunch thanks to its wide variety.  You’ll find flavors from all around the world, including some you might not get to experience back home.  Iced jumbo shrimp and crab claws are a favorite item, along with freshly grilled meats and plenty of side items.  And the desserts are not to be missed.
• Secondary option: Should your idea of a perfect onboard experience include lounging by the pool all day, you’ll likely include plans to have lunch at Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods.  No need to dry off and head inside.  Just drip your way on over to the window, get your tacos or barbecue, and enjoy a quick meal.  The options are more limited than Marceline Market, but there’s still a surprising variety — great for families with a wide range of tastes.  It’s also a chance to give kids just a tiny bit of freedom (and feeling grown up) by having them go all on their own to the window to pick up their chicken tenders.  And the extended hours mean you can dine here even if you missed lunch hours at Marceline Market or get hungry before dinner time.
• Other options: Room Service is another good option for lunch, with the obvious caveat that if you’re waiting in your room for your meal, you can’t be out enjoying the ship.  But if you’re taking a midday break, it’s a decent choice.  Your menu options won’t be that exotic, but you can still get a filling meal that won’t cost you anything extra beyond a tip and maybe an optional add-on like candy or soda.
• Primary option: Your assigned rotational dining restaurant is  the place to be for dinner.  It’s the heartbeat of the Disney Cruise dining experience and your dedicated service team that follows you all voyage long can make it into something really special.  Don’t be shy… ask for two entrees.  Order three desserts. Calories don’t count on vacation!
• Secondary option: As an alternative to your pre-scheduled rotational dining restaurant, you might opt to enjoy Marceline Market.  The restaurant will be an entirely different experience than the buffet-style offerings that are the mainstay of breakfast and lunch. You’ll be seated at a table, and a server will present you a menu that features some of the most popular selections from other restaurants. This is typically a rather laid-back meal without quite as much hustle and bustle as the main dining rooms.
• Other options: Beyond the above two options, there are of course the adult-exclusive restaurants to pick from, though we’d hesitate to call them an “alternative” to your regularly-scheduled dinner; they’re a special experience in and of themselves.  Otherwise, you can always grab quick food from Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods up on the pool decks, or order room service.
• Primary option: For those off-schedule cravings, your best bet is Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods. The generous “drop in almost anytime” hours make it a great choice starting around lunch time and going into the later hours around dinner.  And, while it’s still all-you-can-eat, individual portions tend to be a bit more “snack sized,” meaning it’s easy to grab a relatively light bite to keep you going without spoiling your appetite for your next big meal.
• Secondary option: Room Service is the champ of anytime eating onboard, though you’ll certainly find a better variety at Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods.  With 24-hour operation, you’ll be able to order something from room service starting from the time you get onboard the ship all the way until around 1:30 AM on the very last morning of the cruise.  Whether you want a full meal, a midday snack, buffalo wings at 3AM, or just some cookies and milk at bedtime, it’s only a phone call away.

Most of your meals are included in the price of your cruise; but some specialty meals, alcohol, and the offerings at most bars and lounges cost extra.

Disney Wish Pools and Water Slides

Perhaps the most-anticipated addition to water activities onboard the Disney Wish is the AquaMouse.  Following in the dripping-wet footsteps of the AquaDuck (Disney Dream & Fantasy) and the AquaDunk (Disney Magic), the AquaMouse is a waterslide-type attraction.

Guests board a small two-person raft.  That raft then slowly carries them up a lift hill, during which time video screens mounted on the wall show very brief animations, drawn in the style of the newer Mickey Mouse short cartoons.

We’ve seen a few different storylines in our rides onboard, including one taking place in an alpine ski village, and another during a scuba diving adventure.

Once you’ve enjoyed your lazy lift to the top of the ride, the lift hill ends and the raft takes off for a brief splashy downhill ride.

Our review of the AquaMouse

Our reviewers felt the AquaMouse was the logical “next step” following the AquaDuck onboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.

Disney has positioned the AquaMouse as its first ever “attraction at sea,” but it’s important to remember that the logistics of being onboard a cruise ship mean you shouldn’t expect a Pirates of the Caribbean caliber attraction.

Your ride consists of about 60 seconds of “story” (delivered via short video clips while your raft slowly climbs the lift hill), followed by about 35 seconds of riding down a tube of rushing water.  It’s still a perfectly enjoyable waterslide — just don’t hear the word “attraction” and expect audio-animatronics or an it’s a small world soundtrack.

The different storylines that are offered via the video clips help to add a bit of re-ride-ability to this relatively short attraction.  Without that change, most folks would likely ride it once and be on their way.

To some extent, the AquaMouse feels a bit like Imagineers are just starting to dip their toes into the concept of blending land-style attractions with waterslides — all while working within the limitations associated with operating onboard a functioning cruise ship.

We can’t wait to see the next one after they apply the lessons learned building this one.

Pools and Splash Pads

There’s no shortage of pools and water splash zones onboard; ten, to be exact!  Deck 11 is the home to most, though you’ll also find smaller ones scattered about elsewhere.  With multiple smaller pools rather than one or two giant pools, you’re more likely to find one that better fits the vibe you’re looking for… packed with kids so younger travelers can make new friends… secluded and adult-exclusive allowing for a more-relaxing experience… and everything in between.

Note that some pools may be unavailable during portions of the cruise so they can be covered and used as stages/viewing areas for live entertainment.

• Toy Story Splash Zone

For little tykes eager to make a splash, Woody, Jessie, and friends present a perfect place.  Much like the fun Finding Nemo splash zones onboard the Disney Wish and Fantasy, young kids not quite ready for the pool can splash in fountains, whisk down slides, and safely bounce around a bit on the soft padded areas while cooling off.

Adults will appreciate this pool, sundeck, and bar that’s made just for them.  We all love our family time, but there’s nothing like a little getaway just for the grown-ups while the kids are spending time at the youth clubs.

Disney Wish Kids Clubs and Teen Clubs

The wide array of onboard youth activity clubs is a big reason why we named Disney Wish as the best Disney cruise ship for kids .  Kids who’ve sailed onboard a Disney Cruise before are no doubt still talking about the time they spent at the kids clubs onboard. In what seems to be a continuing theme of this article, the Disney Wish takes the concept to an entirely new level.  Let’s explore some of these dedicated spaces:

Disney’s Oceaneer Club

To access this exclusive space, kids age 3-10 literally slide down from the Grand Hall atrium into the check-in for the day.  Once they’re here, they can pick from several distinctly themed areas.

• Marvel Super Hero Academy

Children become young Avengers, training alongside their favorite Marvel Super Heroes.  Spider-Man, Black Panther, Ant-Man and The Wasp are regulars here as kids team up, select their super suit, and battle infamous villains of the Marvel Universe.

Star Wars: Cargo Bay

Home to the Star Wars Galactic Creature Keepers adventure, kids here will become intergalactic creature handlers, feeding lifelike, interactive creatures and encountering some of the most dangerous beings in the galaxy. Don’t worry, though — with the help of Rey and Chewbacca (and the Force), everything will turn out just fine.

Fairytale Hall

Fairytales come to life in this royal retreat.  Enjoy visits from the Disney Princesses while making royal crafts at Rapunzel’s art studio, acting out stories in Belle’s Library, and crating a bit of ice magic at Anna & Elsa’s Sommerhus.

Walt Disney Imagineering Lab

This is the place for hands-on learning and fun.  A highlight is the ability to design your own virtual roller coaster, then hop inside a simulator capsule to experience it.

Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck

The youngest Oceaneers will enjoy this nautically themed play space.  Enjoy pipe slides, ship’s wheels, activities and games, and even an occasional visit from Captains Mickey and Minnie.

Our Review of the Oceaneer Club onboard the Disney Wish

Our review crew had no doubt in their mind that kids would fall in love with these spaces — because the grown-ups fell in love with them, too!

Thanks to open houses throughout the voyage, our crew spent probably more time than they’d like to admit playing along with the intergalactic adventures and super hero battles.  The slide to the kids club entrance was a big hit, too.

With so many activities and character experiences in these dedicated spaces, there’s virtually no chance of the kids coming back to the room because they’re bored!

The spot for tweens aged 11-14, Edge is a New York City inspired loft-style hangout.

Teens aged 14-17 will enjoy Vibe, a laid-back space that features movies and games.

• The Hideaway

Older teens and young adults (age 18-20) have a space designed just for them onboard the Disney Wish — the first ever on a Disney cruise ship.  With a dance floor, DJ booth, and occasional karaoke contests, this space is a great “transition” space for those not quite ready to hit the adult clubs.

Infants as young as six months old — up through toddlers just shy of their third birthday — are cared for in this secure nursery onboard.  Specially-trained counselors keep everyone fed, changed, happy, entertained, and ready for visits by Disney friends.  Fees apply.

Disney Wish Entertainment and Activities

Your Disney Cruise is only as lazy as you choose to make it — there’s always something going on, so no one will ever get bored onboard!

Broadway-Style Shows

Disney Cruises have long been known for their abundant live entertainment — and especially for the Broadway-style performances staged nightly in the Walt Disney Theatre.  There are three primary shows onboard the Disney Wish, two of which were made exclusively for the new ship .

Disney Seas the Adventure

Start your cruise out right with Disney Seas the Adventure, an embarkation celebration on the first night of your cruise (not to be confused with the sail-away party that happens earlier in the day).  This nighttime performance starts out innocently enough, as Captain Minnie hands the helm over to Goofy.

The ensuing journey features a fabulous musical voyage into favorite films such as Hercules , The Princess and the Frog , Finding Nemo , Moana ,  Frozen II , and Brave .  As the show reaches its crescendo, a cavalcade of Characters leads Guests out of the theatre and into the Grand Hall for an unforgettable sendoff — the ultimate “kiss goodnight.”

Pirates Rockin’ Parlay Party and Fireworks at Sea

Pirate Night holds a place of honor on many Disney Cruise itineraries, and the Disney Wish is no exception.  And once again, Disney Wish’s version seems to add just a little extra to the experience you find onboard the other ships.

The Disney Wish’s version of the pirate party features a rollicking rock-and-roll soundtrack of live music, remarkable stunts, special effects, and plenty of surprises.  The show is heralded by Captain Redd, descendant of the famous red-headed icon from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. She and a band of head-banging buccaneers provide the soundtrack for an unforgettable night that includes Captain Jack Sparrow (you have heard of him?) and the industry-first fireworks display at sea.

Wonderland Cinema and Never Land Cinema

A Disney Cruise is a great way to catch up on the latest released from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Lucasfilm.

Onboard most Disney ships, the Buena Vista Theatre is the place to go — but continuing with the bigger and better theme, Disney Wish is home to two movie theaters: Wonderland Cinema and Never Land Cinema.

There’s no need to buy a ticket — just find a seat and enjoy the show.  A nearby snack bar sells popcorn, candy, and soft drinks (for an additional charge).

Disney Uncharted Adventure

Following in the footsteps of onboard interactive experiences such as Midship Detective Agency (onboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy), Disney Uncharted Adventure is a new first-of-its kind experience that takes classic Disney storytelling to new heights.

The story goes that an unknown evil force has attacked the Wishing Star, splitting its magic into pieces that land in far-off realms. To bring back the Star’s powers, Captain Minnie needs Guests to help navigate the ship toward these uncharted worlds.

Guests onboard join Captain Minnie, Captain Mickey, and other favorite Disney Characters on a multidimensional search for the magic across storybook worlds.  You might spot Moana, Nemo, Princess Tiana, Peter Pan, and others through your “enchanted spyglass” (which looks suspiciously like your mobile device).  But don’t worry – you won’t be staring at your phone the entire time; rather, it’s a tool used to unlock magic all around the ship.  Just be sure you download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app before your cruise begins.

This versatile venue hosts action-packed physical challenges and game-show-style competitions, and is home to a sports court during other hours.  Check the onboard navigator app to see what’s happening each day!

Disney Wish Spa and Salons

There’s no shortage of places onboard to be pampered.  From spa treatments to salon stylings, you’ll be able to step out in high style on the high seas.

Senses Spa and Salon

Like the other Disney Ships, Disney Wish features a Senses spa onboard .   Unlike the other ships, this one is in a league of its own.  In addition to the expected spa and beauty treatments, you can relax and unwind in the Rainforest — an indoor area with heated lounges, fountains, an aromatherapy steam room, a dry sauna and a calming pool; and an exterior area featuring shade canopies and refreshing outdoor pools.

• Untangled Salon

Untangled Salon is the perfect place to let your hair down.  This high-end salon is inspired by Rapunzel from Disney’s Tangled , and offers a wide variety of hairstyling and other treatments.

Hook’s Barbery

Gents will enjoy getting a haircut, shave, or nail/skin treatment at Hook’s Barbery.  The upscale salon is inspired by Captain Hook’s private quarters aboard the Jolly Roger from Disney’s Peter Pan .  Guests 21 and older can also enjoy a hidden bar featuring the finest whiskies, bourbon, and rum — with drinks served during treatments and during select special events.

• Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

Fear not, princesses in need of a magical makeover!  The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique has made its way to the Disney Wish.  Youngsters can enjoy the same royal treatment they receive on land at Walt Disney World resort, thanks to a few Fairy Godmother’s apprentices who’ve made their way to the ship.

Our Review of Spa and Salon Services Onboard the Disney Wish

Our reviewers were astounded by the experience provided by the facilities at Senses Spa and Salon onboard the Disney Wish.  The unique outdoor relaxation area sets it apart from the Senses Spas onboard any other Disney Ship.  It easily ranked as one of their top three experiences onboard, and our review crew couldn’t stop raving about it.

The Untangled Salon and Hook’s Barbery are somewhat unexpected additions to the cruise, but are nonetheless welcome.  Gentlemen will appreciate getting an old-fashioned shave (not to mention a cocktail) at Hook’s while the ladies are getting coiffed at Rapunzel’s place.  We expect that the appeal of these two locations may be somewhat limited to most travelers, though they’ll certainly be popular for those choosing to have a wedding ceremony onboard the ship.

For the foreseeable future, Disney Wish will sail from Port Canaveral , Florida — one of three Disney cruise departure ports in Florida and the closest port to Walt Disney World.

Disney Wish Itineraries for 2024 and 2025

For 2024  and 2025 Disney Wish is sailing on 3- and 4-night Bahamian cruises from Port Canaveral Florida. Most include a visit to Disney’s Castaway Cay and to Nassau, Bahamas.

Does this Disney ship do themed cruises?

Some sailings in Fall and Winter will be themed as Halloween on the High Seas or Very Merrytime Cruises .

Our Review of the Disney Wish Itineraries

As far as itineraries go, we’re somewhat torn as to whether these are a win or a loss.

If we’re being pragmatic about it, we recognize that these shorter Bahamian cruises have been a mainstay of Disney Cruise Line since its earliest days.  We also know that Port Canaveral, FL is Disney’s truest “home port,” with year-round departures that are within an hour’s drive or so from Disney World.

So it’s no surprise that they’d want to have the newest ship, with all its hype, right “next door” to Orlando so people can easily extend their Walt Disney World vacation by tacking on a short cruise.  It also allows Disney to tap into the huge “locals” market of Florida residents who seem to flock to the latest-and-greatest that Disney has to offer.

Let’s also not forget that Disney research recently showed that an astounding 40%+ of their passengers said they wouldn’t have even taken a cruise if Disney Cruise Line didn’t exist; so it obviously doesn’t seem to matter where the ship goes as long as Mickey’s onboard.

But on the other hand, the itineraries are honestly somewhat of a snooze compared to the exotic itineraries you can have on other Disney ships.  We know many frequent cruisers who don’t even get off the ship when it docks in Nassau.

Castaway Cay is a Guest favorite, but for repeat travelers, even it risks becoming a bit too “been there, done that.” Some savvy repeat cruisers use Castaway Cay day as their opportunity to experience onboard activities with lower crowd levels while everyone else is out on the island.  (It should be a good day to ride the AquaMouse with less of a wait).

We’d have loved to have seen some newer itineraries offered for this new ship, perhaps blending a mix of Bahamian and Caribbean nation ports together for a cruise that you can’t get on any other Disney Cruise ship at present.

We’re honestly more excited that using newer ships on these tried-and-true Bahamian/Caribbean routes will now free up the other ships to start doing different itineraries in the future.  For example, it was announced during September 2022’s D23 Expo that the Disney Wonder would begin offering at least some cruises in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific starting in late 2023.

Environmental Considerations

Disney Cruise Line says The Disney Wish is estimated to be nearly 30 percent more fuel efficient and emit approximately 20 percent less greenhouse gases. DCL indicates it remains committed to investing in our current fleet by utilizing new technologies, increasing fuel efficiency, and minimizing waste, including the fleet-wide conversion in 2020 to ultra-low-sulfur fuel that exceeds international maritime regulations.

The Disney Wish’s use of Low-Emission Liquefied-Natural Gas (LNG) eliminates nearly all sulfur oxides and particulate matter emissions, reduces the emission of nitrogen oxide by approximately 37 percent, and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 20 percent compared to traditional diesel or marine fuel.

Excess heat from the engines is re-purposed to warm the super-cooled LNG so it can be used to power the ship. Cold energy from the LNG tanks is then recycled into the ship’s energy efficient air-conditioning systems. This interconnected system saves 200 tons of fuel per year.

A demand-based heating and cooling system onboard adapts in real time to deliver the ideal amount of temperature-controlled air throughout the ship while saving nearly 700 tons of fuel annually.

The hydrodynamic hull and propeller reduce the engine power needed to propel the ship, saving nearly 1,800 tons of fuel annually and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 6 percent.

The ship’s prototype installation of a 1-megawatt fuel cell (to provide additional emission-free energy for onboard systems) will be one of the largest in a marine environment and will help to better understand the feasibility of large-scale fuel cell installations onboard cruise and shipping vessels, potentially driving industry-wide adoption of the new tech.

Final Thoughts on the Disney Wish Cruise Ship

Disney is a cruise line that favors quality over quantity.  While other cruise lines might have dozens of ships with a new one showing up every couple of years, Disney takes its time and works to get it right.

We might have had to wait ten years for a new Disney Cruise ship, but the wait was certainly worth it.  The Disney Wish is in a class by itself, with some innovative design features and guest offerings not found anywhere else.

Are there a few things we’d like to have seen done differently?  Sure.  With ten years of waiting — not to mention all the years of extra anticipation once the ship was announced — expectations are bound to be sky high, and wishing begins to fill in the holes left by an absence of details.  But despite that, even those who are jaded to the point that they’re bored by the same old ports and the same old cruising are sure to find something here that will wow you.

We’re starting to plan our first Disney Cruise for next fall (2025). I’m a total newbie to cruises in general, and although I’ve been to WDW many times I want to learn as much about the DCL as possible before we pick our destination and ship. I started researching thinking we would definitely sail out of Port Canaveral and end our trip with a couple of days at WDW. Now I’m not so sure! There are so many options for departure ports and destinations. At that time we will have a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old, so I’m looking for information on what would be a good option for them as well as for my husband and I. Any recommendations for kids of those ages on length, destination, or excursions we should look for?

Hi Lindsey — you’re correct that there are a ton of options as far as ships, itineraries, and ports. With this being your first-ever Disney Cruise and your family enjoying Disney World so much, my first inclination is to suggest that perhaps you should “split the difference” and take a combination land and sea vacation. Consider a shorter 3-night sailing out of Port Canaveral, paired with a Disney World stay either before or after. This would allow the entire family, including the kids, to get a “taste” of cruising to determine if it’s their idea of a good time or not. If you love it, you’ll know to book a longer cruise next time. If you try cruising but determine that the parks are more your speed, you will still have a bit of them during your trip and won’t be “stuck” on a longer cruise.

Disney Wish’s maiden voyage will be July 14, 2022.

It will be a special five-night sailing from Port Canaveral, Florida . It will include two days at sea, plus stops at Nassau (Bahamas) and Castaway Cay .

January 2022 was the original expected date of the maiden voyage of the Disney Wish cruise ship. Then, early June 2022 was the target for sailing after some delays at Meyer-Werft shipyard in Germany. Currently the Disney Wish is now scheduled to set sail in July 2022.

Disney Wish is the newest vessel in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. It joins its sister ships, Disney Fantasy , Disney Dream, Disney Magic, and Disney Wonder as the fifth Disney cruise ship. In 2016, Disney announced it would be building two new ships and then, one year later, one MORE ship was announced, bringing the planned total of new cruise ships to three. The Disney Wish is the first of those three new ocean vessels .

The Disney Wish was completed in 2022 and arrived in Port Canaveral, Florida, in June 2022.

Originally planned to be completed and delivered in late 2021, the global travel industry disruptions of 2020 delayed the original schedule for completion of the Disney Wish.

Disney then announced the Wish would sail in June 2022 but that was pushed back by 6 weeks due to construction delays at the shipyard.

The Disney Wish maiden voyage is taking place in July 2022.

Disney Wish as originally expected to make her inaugural sailing in January 2022. However, due to pandemic-related delays of the construction of ship, the maiden voyage of the Disney Wish is now scheduled for July 14, 2022.

On the bow of the ship, Captain Minnie Mouse is showcased.

The exterior of the ship features Rapunzel (from Tangled ) as she dangles from the stern.

The interior of the ship was originally expected to continue the tradition of the existing ships in sporting an Art Deco or Art Noveau style. Disney Imagineers stated they want the insides of Disney’s ships to reflect “the golden age of ocean cruising.”

The look of the atrium is something of a departure from Art Deco or Art Noveau.

The atrium is three-stories, with a bright and airy décor intended to reflect the “beauty of an enchanted fairytale.”

The Grand Hall is billed as Disney’s “Castle on the Sea”. When cruisers step foot on board the Wish, they are met with a full enchantment motif, built to conjure visions of a fairytale castle.

When Will I Be Able to Book a Cruise on the Disney Wish?

Disney Wish cruises are available to book now.

First bookings were available to most people to book on May 27, 2021.

What does the Disney Wish chandelier look like?

Disney Wish has a three-story Grand Hall that is built to enchant guests. In the Grand Hall, you’ll find a statue of Cinderella, and a dazzling chandelier.

The chandelier is a centerpiece for special effects, dramatic show lighting, and shimmers and even showers pixie dust upon those that gaze upon it.

The chandelier is built to represent the movement that is witnessed in the movie Cinderella at the moment that Cinderella’s dress is transformed from drab attire into a glorious gown.

Who built the new Disney Wish?

Disney Cruise Line contracted with reputable German shipbuilding company Meyer Werft to build the three newest ship, including the Disney Wish. Meyer Werft were also the builders of Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream .

Meyer Werft officially turned the ship over to Disney Cruise Line on June 9, 2022, at which point the Wish set sail for Port Canaveral and arrived in port there before dawn on June 20, 2022.

How is the Disney Wish fueled?

The Wish is fueled by liquefied natural gas.

DCL has stated that LNG “is one of the cleanest-burning fuels available,” making the Disney Wish a more efficient and eco-friendly method of providing cruise vacations.

By moving to natural gas propulsion instead of oil-based fuel, cruise ships are able to reduce emissions of sulphur, nitrogen oxide and other chemicals.

How was the Disney Wish Revealed?

Disney Cruise Line gradually released information about their newest cruise ship over a period of years. When they finally introduced the ship, they previewed the design of the new Disney Wish ship with this video:

About Dining Options on Disney Wish

Like the other ships in the DCL fleet, the Disney Wish features “Rotational Dining.”

To mix up your dinner dining enjoyment, guests rotate between three main restaurants, offering a  unique dining experience  every night. Your server, assistant server and the rest of dinner staff will move with you.

Here are the Disney Wish restaurants that are part of the rotational dining:

Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure

Worlds of marvel.

Located at the stern of Deck 5 , Arendelle is a Frozen-themed restaurant! This restaurant serves up food from Arendelle.

Home to the royal family of Arendelle, a visit here immerses you in all things Frozen . A winter wonderland awaits at every turn as your journey takes you through thrilling scenes and adventures from Disney’s Academy Award-winning movie, “ Frozen .”

Following the events of Frozen 2 , The Frozen Dining Adventure is a continuation of the Frozen tale.

In a theatrical performance that unfolds while you eat, Anna and Kristoff are celebrating their engagement, and they have invited you to join them as the honored guest.

You can expect a number of musical numbers from Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf, as well as hearty Norwegian-inspired cuisine . Made by Oaken himself!

Family artifacts and paintings, an Arendelle soldier’s suit of armor, the grandfather clock as from original film, busts of Anna and Elsa, and the lantern from Olaf’s Frozen Adventure adorn the walls of Arendelle. Furthermore, during the dinner, the gorgeous windows that look outward undergo a wonderful metamorphosis.

In this first-ever Worlds of Marvel cinematic dining adventure, guests play an active role in an Avengers mission, titled Avengers: Quantum Encounter that takes place all around them during their meal.

Cruisers will follow Ant-Man and The Wasp as they host a special presentation of impressive Avengers tech:

Guests are given a high-tech Quantum Core device that make objects grow and shrink. Throughout the meal, guests complete various missions by interacting with their surroundings, Ant-Man & The Wasp, Ms. Marvel, and fellow diners. There is even an unexpected visit from a villain and army that want to steal the quantum tech.

The dining hall itself is decorated with high-tech holographic models of Avengers iconic tools displayed on computerized displays on the walls.

Menus are inspired by Marvel Cinematic Universe locations such as African Wakanda, Avengers home base of New York City, and Sokovia of Eastern Europe.

This one-of-a-kind dining experience is located on Deck 4 of the Disney Wish.

WATCH THE OFFICIAL “AVENGERS: QUANTUM ENCOUNTER” TRAILER

Specially named after the year that The Walt Disney Company was founded, 1923 features a Hollywood Golden Era theme, serving California culturally relevant recipes. Also, it walks you through the history and changes that have taken place in Disney animation .

The decor showcases over 1000 props and drawings from 16 Disney movies, such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Fantasia, Cinderella, and The Little Mermaid.

Guests at 1923 experience refined cuisine inspired by the blend of cultural tastes prevalent throughout the Golden State and crafted with families in mind.

The menu reflects the region’s distinctive combination of Asian, European, and South American cuisines, with fresh fruit, wild honey, and earthy pistachios among the native delicacies.

All of this is, of course, accompanied by a superb range of world-renowned Napa Valley wines.

This restaurant can be found on Deck 3.

Premium Dining Experiences

Looking for an adult only meal? The Disney Wish offers premium dining experiences to elevate your tastebuds.

PALO Steakhouse

This is a signature Disney dining experience and it is available only for adults. Located on Deck 12 aft.

This is an evolution of the version of Palo that is found on other Disney ships. This elegant, adults-only restaurant takes a theme from the lovable pomp and circumstance of Cogsworth, the enchanted clock from Disney’s  Beauty and the Beast .

Cuisine features premium steaks and Italian recipes .

Reservations are required and there is a dress code as well, please  refer to our Disney Cruise packing list  for suggestions on what to wear.

Another premium dining experience, The Enchanté restaurant is billed as the most elegant dining experience on the Disney Wish.

Menu was created by three-Michelin starred Chef Arnaud Lallement.

Theme is built around Lumiere’s stately presences from Beauty and the Beast . Located on Deck 12.

Casual Dining on Disney Wish

Marceline market.

This is a quick-service experience that features 10 “food stalls”. It’s called “walk-up” dining, meant for casual dining throughout the day.

The name Marceline Market pays homage to Walt Disney’s early childhood hometown in Marceline, Missouri.

The food stalls are themed to match a popular Disney animated film like Zootopia or Alice in Wonderland. Will we be greeted by our favorite characters while we are dining??

Disney adds some credence to that rumor by saying:

This fun design twist presents favorite characters as honorary “shopkeepers,” offering a wide-ranging variety of freshly prepared cuisines for the whole family to enjoy, including American classics, international specialties, comfort foods, seafood, soups and salads, vegetarian and plant-based fare, baked goods, and desserts. – Disney Parks Blog

The menu will change regularly but will include the following types of cuisine:

Decorated as an industrial loft that has been converted into a food marketplace, each station will have a theme from a classic animated film, such as Ratatouille, Zootopia, Alice in Wonderland, Tangled, etc. A cafe-style beverage bar will be available as well.

Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods

Upper decks

Themed around Disney’s “Fab Five” characters, this series of eateries is themed as an oceanside boardwalk, providing quick bite options for those spending time on Disney Wish upper decks.

Open for lunch, snacks, and dinner, here are the five food stalls:

• Daisy’s Pizza Pies
• Donald’s Cantina
• Goofy’s Grill
• Mickey’s Smokestack Barbeque
• Sweet Minnie’s Ice Cream

Menus feature soft-serve ice cream, American classics, BBQ, and Mexican options.

Hosted under a shaded seating area, there is plenty of space to find a place to step away from the pool and sun for a treat.

Disney Wish room service menu is expansive. The menu is almost completely free, with myriad options available at any time of the night or day.

Beverage Stations

Deck 11 (expected location)

The drinks here are FREE. Your options include water, soda, juices, coffee, tea, milk, fruit punch, lemonade, and hot cocoa.

Nightingale’s

Piano bar inspired by Cinderella’s “Sing Sweet Nightingale”. Located adjacent to the Grand Hall and is thematically tied to the atrium decor.

Bayou Lounge

Inspired by The Princess and the Frog , this is an informal bar and lounge for adults. Cocktails, specialty coffees and beignets are offered. Live entertainment include musical performances.

The Rose is an idyllic setting for a pre-dinner aperitif or after-dinner cocktail. There are subtle nods to the film Beauty and the Beast throughout, with the theming dedicated to the fateful flower of the classic movie.

Keg & Compass

Pub decorated to resemble a late 1800’s Norwegian sailor’s map room. Porthole windows accentuate the oldtime maritime style. Live sports, news and major broadcast events are experienced here. Assortment of wines & cocktails are available, along with three custom craft brews.

Star Wars : Hyperspace Lounge

This adults-only lounge is a one-of-a-kind experience for Star Wars fan.

Passengers are able to order cocktails in a high-end luxury bar that is styled as a “yacht-class” spaceship from the Star Wars universe.

As you sip your drink, you gaze out portals to space that showcase different locales featured in Star Wars films and series , including Batuu, Endor, Coruscant, Tatooine and Mustafar.

As you look through the lounge’s prominent widescreen viewport, you have close-up encounters with the following starships from the Star Wars universe as you tour these locales:

The venue’s sleek interior design and metallic detailing is inspired by lavish star cruisers similar to Dryden Vos’ ship in “Solo: A  Star Wars  Story.” While you sip your galactic concoctions, this space-faring voyage will transport you to iconic locations from the eras of the Republic, Empire and First Order, employing hyperspace jumps to travel from planet to planet while sensational scenes unfold just beyond the ship’s panoramic viewport at each stop. Ranging from serene vistas to action-packed encounters, the spectacles seen through this virtual “window” into the galaxy will feature famous space ships from the films and fan-favorite locales like Batuu, Tatooine, Mustafar and Coruscant. Alcohol is served only to those over 21 years of age.

On other Disney ships, like the Fantasy , we love to tell people about this serene, out-of-the-way spot on Deck 13 that overlooks Quiet Cove Pool.

It’s adults only and you can get your hands on some gourmet coffee (additional charge), enjoy a pastry or surf the internet.

Wheezy’s Freezies

Located on the pool deck next to the Toy Story Splash Zone, this smoothie bar serves blended fruit drinks.

Untangled Salon

Adults hair salon, inspired by Tangled and Rapunzel. Colors are purple and gold with lanterns serving as light fixtures. Haircuts, nails, teeth whitening and skin treatments are among the services offered.

Hook’s Barbery

This a traditional men’s salon pays homage to a scene in Peter Pan where Smee shaves what he thinks is Captain Hook. Get shaves, skin & nail treatments, as well as haircuts and style.

Bonus : the establishment features a “hidden bar” – ask about their bourbons, rum, whisky, and other spirits when you go.

Disney Wish Spa Treatments

Senses spa & rainforest room.

Fitness center, private treatment rooms, and luxury spa treatments including facials, massages, and acupuncture.

Fitness center offers state of the art exercise equipment, dedicate space for cycling, yoga & aerobics.

The Rainforest Room is a sauna, steam room, and aromatherapy showers. Guests are given body scrubs, soothing scents, in a relaxing environment. Exclusive to the Disney Wish, Rainforest includes an ice lounge and an open-air oasis.

Walt Disney Theatre

Decks 3 & 4

Every evening on the Disney Wish, an exciting entertainment event is put on in the Walt Disney Theatre.

Guests get to witness performances that are truly Broadway-level in quality. Also frequenting the stage are musicians, jugglers, ventriloquists, hypnotists, or comedians.

Sometimes they put up a feature movie on a massive screen. The movie is usually a Disney-owned film that is new or due to theaters.

Decks 4 & 5

This performance space is flexible enough to host parties, shows, and family games and entertainment during the day, while converting into an adults-only venue in the evening.

The Luna theater is set to look like a fairytale village and is two decks tall.

Featuring a LED screen wall that takes up two stories, along with a bar, stage, and plenty of seats, Luna should be a buzzy, oft-used place onboard.

Wonderland Cinema & Never Land Cinema

Two lux movie theaters to accommodate first-run feature films, using state of the art technology to play movies all day, every day.

Neverland Cinema is reminiscent of Peter Pan’s flight to Neverland with Tinker Bell and the Darling children.

Wonderland Cinema boasts an Alice in Wonderland theme.

We’ve been told that the  Grand Hall  will act as both a gathering place (aka traditional cruise ship atrium) with a fairytale theme, as well as a functional theatre. from a fairytale gathering space into an environmental theater through the magic of built-in special effects and the first-ever atrium stage on a Disney ship. Dedicated shows and interactive entertainment will come to life all around the hall, putting guests front and center as they play a special role in the magic.

Funnel Vision

Funnel Vision is a giant screen that shows Disney movies while you chill on Deck 12 or swim in the Disney Wish pools.

Called “Funnel Vision” because it is mounted onto the forward funnel of the ship. It’s a massive LED screen, totally state of the art.

It’s the first-ever Disney attraction at sea.

AquaMouse is a water raft ride that sends you through winding tubes that are perched well above the upper decks of the ship.

As guests ride, they see animated shorts, special effects, lighting and scenes from “The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse.”

The original story, titled “Scuba Scramble”, is set around Mickey’s ill-fated excursion company called “Port Misadventures”.

Toy Story Splash Zone

Splash pad with a fun Toy Story  theme for kids ages 3 and under. Water spurts all over; coming up from the floor and jetting from replicas of characters from the Pixar short titled “ Partysaurus Rex “.

Characters such as Woody and Buzz Lightyear are re-imagined as enormous rubber bath toys. These characters move and spray water.

The space features a waterslide called Slide-a-saurus Rex , a wading pool called Trixie’s Falls , and close by is a smoothie bar called Wheezy’s Freezies .

Quiet Cove – Adult Pool

For ages 18 and up, the secluded Quiet Cove pool area is found at the very rear of the ship. It has been designed to cater to adults with an infinity pool, whirlpool spa, open-air bar, and poolside cafe.

This is one of our favorite areas on any Disney Cruise ship.

Aladdin – a Musical Spectacular

Seas the Adventures

With the guidance of Tinkerbell, Captain Minnie and an all-star ensemble of Disney and Pixar characters, Goofy discovers his inner captain in Seas the Adventure.

The program will feature characters from ‘Princess and the Frog,’ ‘Frozen 2,’ ‘Finding Nemo,’ ‘Moana,’ and other Disney movies, and will be one of the first live performances on board the Disney Wish.

Disney The Little Mermaid

Disney The Little Mermaid is a contemporary and imaginative retelling of the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic about a little girl discovering the power of her voice.

The production has spectacular special effects, cutting-edge theatrical design, artistic choreography, and a reworked narrative and soundtrack that will excite and astonish audiences of all ages.

Hero Zone: Incredibles Themed Games

The Hero Zone is a game show-style contest in which families compete in a futuristic sports venue against one another.

Inspired by the dynamic characters of Pixar’s “The Incredibles,” this highly interactive, imaginatively produced game show will dare families to take on an incredible obstacle course with over-the-top physical challenges themed to the powers of the Parr family heroes and their good friend Frozone.

Jack-Jack’s Incredible Diaper Dash!, a popular Disney Cruise Line attraction, is now housed in Hero Zone. This renowned contest allows fantastic tots the opportunity to compete for the prestigious status of Diaper Dash Champion as they speed-crawl around a 20-foot track amid the applause (and giggles) of family, friends, and loving fans, with more hoopla than ever before.

When Hero Zone isn’t dressed up in superhero garb, it is a free-play sports center where guests play basketball, soccer, and a variety of table-top activities including Ping-Pong, air hockey, foosball, and shuffleboard.

Fireworks at Sea

Disney Cruise Line is famous for launching fireworks off the ship, quite frequently connected to a pirate theme .

The Disney Wish has its own fireworks spectacular show.

It’s a Small World Nursery

Childcare for your wee ones. You can leave kids ages 6 months to 3 years old at the nursery.

The Cast Members at the nursery are well-trained Disney counselors who will feed your child at the proper time, change diapers, and lead the kids in crafts, activities and games.

It’s the Avengers headquarters! Your child becomes a new “recruit” and is trained to be a future superhero with personalized guidance by the likes of Black Panther, Ant-Man, the Wasp, and Spider-Man.

Young recruits participate in a hands-on training session with Ant-Man and The Wasp at Marvel Super Hero Academy, where they learn how to manufacture and test their own Pym Particles, the technology that allows heroes to shrink and expand items (and themselves). They join forces with Pym Technologies and Wakandan Design Group masterminds — including a special appearance by Black Panther — to stop Taskmaster’s nefarious scheme to hack into the academy’s system and steal the world’s most sophisticated hero technology.

Kids enjoy the greatest day ever with Rapunzel and Flynn Rider as they embark on a treasure quest to retrieve the missing parts of the Snuggly Duckling sign when the center of Disney’s Oceaneer Club turns into the Snuggly Duckling pub from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Tangled.”

Children use their imaginations to write a bold, humorous, magical new narrative for their favorite book lover in Belle’s Library. Belle uses her wits and her magical mirror to assist decide the story’s characters, storyline, and ending.

The newest citizens of Arendelle join a special celebration of Queen Anna’s recent coronation at Anna and Elsa’s Sommerhus by acting out the history of how she became queen — taking on the roles and iconic movie moments of characters like Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff, Hans, and more — before the queen, her sister, and their snowman friend arrive to join in the fun.

Walt Disney Imagineering Lab

Your kids will become Disney Imagineers in training. Through hands-on activities, experiments, and just good old fashioned play, children can learn what it is like to design Disney theme park rides.

Star Wars: Cargo Bay

Star Wars: Cargo Bay will feature strange creatures and iconic figures from the Star Wars universe. This first-of-its-kind immersive experience will immerse children in the role of creature managers as they learn to control a naughty zoo of exotic animals from all across the galaxy, including a porg, Loth-cat, worrt, and more. Kids will utilize augmented reality-enabled datapads to follow and study the species on a series of special missions during the cruise. But there might be more to this endeavor than meets the eye: the new crew will be undertaking a critical operation to return Rey and Chewbacca, two hidden stowaways, to the Resistance.

They’ll utilize augmented reality-enabled datapads to monitor and study the critters on a series of special tasks during the voyage. The new crew will be undertaking a vital operation to return Rey and Chewbacca, two hidden stowaways, to the Resistance.

The newly minted caregivers will be put to the test as they assist feed the lifelike animals and meet some of the galaxy’s most deadly monsters during the interactive “Star Wars: Creature Challenge” event. When things go wrong, they’ll have to rely on Rey and Chewbacca’s knowledge — and maybe the Force — to save the ship from sinking.

Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck

Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck is a nautical playground inspired by the colors, iconography, and enchantment of Disney Cruise Line, and is specifically developed for the youngest sailors at Disney’s Oceaneer Club. Pipe slides and crawl-throughs, ship’s wheels, “busy boxes” fashioned as ship controls, and plush life preserver seating spaces will be among the many maritime-themed physical and sensory games and activities available in this brand-new area.

When kids enter the space, they’ll spend time with Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The area will be accessible to young ones’ families for group play at various times throughout the trip, and toddlers from It’s a Small World Nursery will have special access to the club to explore, learn, and play with Mickey and Minnie.

“Minnie’s Captain Academy,” a high-energy training session for youngsters to exercise their bodies (via amusing games, dancing, and maritime “drills”) and their minds (through a series of tasks related to STEAM principles), will be the trademark event (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics). Captain Minnie will examine their accomplishments and formally appoint them as honorary captains!

Don’t be surprised if you barely see your kids during the cruise!

Deck 5, ages 11-14

This New York loft-themed hangout is perfect for the tweens and offers a space for them to watch movies, craft, play games and hang out with other kids their age (ages 11-14).

Tweens ages 11 to 14 will have a blast, meet new people, and play games. The club has comfy seating, nooks for solo gaming and movie viewing, and a soda bar.

The inside solarium area has a sunny overhead skylight effect, a carpet patterned with fresh grass and daisies, a back wall painting of a bright blue sky, and activities inspired by a colorful outside city park.

Graphic art exhibits called as “photo walls” are set up around Edge to allow tweens to take stylish, shareable vacation photos that will be the envy of their pals back home.

Teens 14-17 will have a blast at Vibe, whether it’s listening to music, dancing or competing with other teens to get the highest video game score. It’s a space of their own, themed like a Parisian loft…adults have to stay away and that’s how these teens like it. (Did I mention you might not see your kids that much?)

Teenage passengers will make new friends, watch movies, play games, and participate in fun activities designed specifically for them.

This stylish space features classic architectural elements like regal French columns and paneled walls covered with whimsical pop art murals and colorful graffiti, as well as a traditional French Morris column plastered with Disney-inspired travel posters, and is inspired by a Parisian artists’ loft.

With vivid neon signs and wacky pop art everywhere, the décor has an electrifying vintage touch, which is emphasized by a larger-than-life, brightly painted Mickey Mouse figure.

When you combine all of that with floor-to-ceiling windows that stare out over the ocean, you’ve got yourself a winner.

The Hideaway

The Disney Wish has a third hideaway for tweens and adolescents, The Hideaway, for the first time aboard a Disney cruise ship.

This cool new hangout provides an additional option for older kids and young adults to relax, sip a smoothie, listen to music, and more in a luxury environment replete with a dance floor and DJ booth – ideal for karaoke and dancing competitions.

A vivid color palette, retro-inspired design elements, a stylized “Hiya, friend” mural, and disco ball lighting is featured throughout the Hideaway.

This versatile space, located next to Vibe, may be opened to the teen club, locked off for tween events, or reserved exclusively for visitors aged 18 to 20.

Tweens and teenagers will have “llama” fun with personalized, counselor-led programming geared to engage their specific interests, such as a humorous new competition based on “The Emperor’s New Groove,” which is a fan favorite.

They’ll also have specific activities around the ship during special events conducted in Hero Zone, Luna, and other locations.

First announced back in 2016, the Disney Wish was officially announced in 2019. It first set sail on its maiden voyage from Port Canaveral on July 14, 2022, cruising through the Caribbean with stops in Nassau and Castaway Cay. 

As the first Triton class ship added to the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Wish is a truly special vessel. The ship weighs 140,000 tons and offers enough room for 2,500 guests on board. That’s larger than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy – but the Disney Wish features the same number of staterooms, offering the perk of increased space for guests. 

On the stern of the Disney Wish, you’ll find Rapunzel and Pascal. But there’s another special character at the heart of this particular Disney Cruise Line ship: Minnie Mouse. During the keel laying ceremony for the Wish, it was revealed that Captain Minnie was on the specially-minted coin made for the keel and the ship’s bow artwork. Captain Minnie is also at the helm for each sailing (so keep an eye out for her while you’re on board!).

Inside the Grand Hall, where you’ll be welcomed aboard the Disney Wish, you’ll find a life-size Cinderella statue waiting. As you step further into the ship, you’ll find there are 14 decks to explore, with everything from staterooms to restaurants to entertainment venues to pools and recreation areas spread across them. Where Does the Disney Wish Sail?

The Disney Wish is based out of Port Canaveral, the home port of Disney Cruise Line. From Port Canaveral, the Wish embarks on three- and four-night sailings to the Bahamas. Every sailing includes a stop at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island available exclusively for those who sail on Disney Cruise Line ships.

There are 1,250 staterooms aboard the Disney Wish – and there’s a whopping 11 different types of staterooms to choose from. You’ll have plenty of options, whether you’re looking for a luxurious two-story stateroom or a smaller interior stateroom that’s solely for resting at night. Best of all, there’s a unique perk to the Wish’s staterooms: the staterooms are more spacious than those on other Disney Cruise Line ships . 

Additionally, the Wish offers a wide selection of staterooms with an ocean view; in fact, most rooms on board offer a view of the sparkling sea! Here’s a look at the different types of staterooms you can book.

Inside Staterooms

On the Disney Wish, you’ll have one inside stateroom option: a Standard Inside Stateroom . There is no exterior or ocean view to be found in these rooms, but they do sleep up to four adults in total. 

Oceanview Staterooms

When you opt for an oceanview stateroom, you’ll enjoy similar room sizing and layouts as inside staterooms. Each Oceanview Stateroom includes a large porthole that looks out onto the open ocean as you cruise. You can opt for either a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom or a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom , depending on how many people you’re traveling with. While a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom sleeps up to four adults, a Family version can sleep up to five.

Verandah Staterooms

If you’re hoping to spend some time taking in the ocean air on a private deck of your own, a stateroom with a verandah is the perfect choice. Verandah staterooms include a private verandah just for your cruising party. You have two choices on the Disney Wish: either a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah or a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah . These staterooms sleep four and five adults, respectively.

Concierge staterooms.

If you’re looking for a stateroom that offers an elevated cruise experience, concierge-level rooms offer exactly that. On Disney Cruise Line ships – including the Wish – concierge staterooms are similar to club-level rooms at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. These rooms come with a higher price, but you’ll get more personalized service, special access to a lounge, and other perks not available with a typical stateroom.

When it comes to accommodations and options, there are six types of concierge staterooms :

• Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah
• Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom
• Concierge 1-Bedroom Suite with Verandah (or Extended Verandah)
• Concierge 1-Story Royal Suite with Verandah
• Concierge 2-Story Royal Suite with Verandah
• Concierge Wish Tower Suite

Each one of these concierge stateroom types offers a different layout and room for a variety of group or family sizes. Three of them – the Concierge Family Oceanview, Concierge Family Oceanview with Verandah, and Concierge 1-Bedroom Suite – can sleep up to five adults. Concierge 1-Story Royal Suites and Concierge 2-Story Royal Suites can sleep up to six, while the Concierge Wish Tower Suite has enough room for eight.

Dining on the Disney Wish

You’ll find a whole host of dining options on the Wish, whether you’re searching for a midday meal, a quick snack, or something to satisfy your sweet tooth. With formal dining options as well as a buffet, room service, and grab-and-go casual choices, there’s something for every taste and every day of your sailing.

Like all other Disney Cruise Line ships, the Disney Wish offers rotational dining for dinners. This allows you to try each of the main restaurants onboard during your sailing, though you can choose to skip a night or two of rotational dining and secure a reservation at a different restaurant not included with your sailing instead (at an additional cost). Here’s a look at all of the dinner options on the Wish :

The New Disney Wish Will Be the Most Magical Ship at Sea — Take a Look Inside

Disney Cruise Line just unveiled details about its newest ship, including the first-ever Disney attraction at sea, Frozen - and Marvel-themed dining experiences, and an adults-only Star Wars lounge.

The Disney Wish is going to be Disney Cruise Line's most magical ship yet, and we're giving you a first look at all the incredible experiences guests will find on board. Setting sail July 14, 2022, the Disney Wish is packed with firsts that Disney fans will love, including the first-ever Disney attraction at sea, a Frozen -themed theatrical dining experience, a Marvel dinner adventure, an Imagineering lab for kids, and an adults-only Star Wars lounge. And it doesn't stop there — the ship's staterooms (including four stunning royal suites) are absolutely dreamy, with fairy-tale touches that reflect the ship's overall motif of enchantment.

Travel + Leisure talked to Laura Cabo, portfolio creative executive for Walt Disney Imagineering, about the new ship's creation and design. Cabo said the cruise is a uniquely intimate experience because once guests board, they never have to leave the Disney magic — "guests get to live and dine and play with our characters."

Cabo said enchantment is a hallmark of the Disney brand, and it guides every experience and space they create for guests on board, with designs focusing on fairy-tale castles, forests and animals, and the spirit of the sea. From the moment guests walk into the castle-like Great Hall, they're entering the universe of beloved Disney stories and the world of the ports they're sailing to.

She said the ship's name — the Disney Wish — reflects all those fairy-tale characters guests will see throughout the ship, like Rapunzel and Cinderella, and the excitement that guests feel when their dreams come true through these enchanted experiences. All the Disney ships offer magical experiences and fantastic storytelling, but this new ship provided a great opportunity to tell beloved Disney stories in a new and exciting way, according to Cabo.

"With the Disney Wish, we're continuing our tradition of delivering the most magical and relaxing vacations at sea, combining legendary service and entertainment with imaginative storytelling and all the care you expect from a Disney vacation," said Josh D'Amaro, chairman of Disney parks, experiences and products, in a statement shared with T+L. "Our newest ship will celebrate everything that families love about sailing with us, from the incredible dining experiences and character interactions, to dazzling shows and the crew's thoughtful attention to detail. We can't wait to welcome our guests aboard the Disney Wish as we expand the reach of our world-class fleet."

The Disney Wish will embark on its maiden voyage on June 9, 2022, and it will offer three- and four-night itineraries from Port Canaveral, Florida to Nassau, Bahamas and Castaway Cay, Disney's private island. Bookings will open to the public in less than a month on May 27, 2021.

Here are some of the incredible new experiences guests can look forward to on the Disney Cruise Line's newest ship.

All-new Dining Experiences on the Disney Wish

A trio of new family-friendly restaurants offer totally unique dining experiences. Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure will invite guests to Queen Anna and Kristoff's royal engagement party, picking up where "Frozen 2" left off. A theater-in-the-round style venue will bring the story to life with sing-a-longs, a true-to-scale Olaf puppet, and panoramic windows that will transform from ocean views to the northern lights.

Worlds of Marvel will put guests at the center of an Avengers adventure with a menu inspired by the superhero films. And 1923, a restaurant named for the year The Walt Disney Company was founded, will combine old Hollywood glamour with Disney animation. It will feature a California-inspired menu.

Adult guests will get to enjoy a set of exclusive dining experiences on board the Disney Wish, too, including Star Wars : Hyperspace Lounge, an elegant bar serving drinks inspired by the films. The lounge's interior is "inspired by lavish star cruisers similar to Dryden Vos's ship in 'Solo: A Star Wars Story,'" according to a press release shared with T+L. Guests will be transported to iconic locations from the Star Wars universe, with views from a virtual "window" into the action, a holotube presenting holographic models of other starships, and surround-sound audio.

Finally, three adults-only venues inspired by "Beauty and the Beast" will offer upscale dining in beautiful settings. Palo Steakhouse, inspired by Cogsworth, will offer a selection of Italian dishes and incredible steaks. Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement will be the most luxurious option on board, with a gourmet menu crafted by the three-Michelin-starred chef and touches inspired by Lumiere. The Rose, located at the entrance of these two venues, will offer a magical spot for drinks and small plates.

The First-ever Disney Attraction at Sea: AquaMouse

One of the most exciting "firsts" on board the Disney Wish is the first-ever Disney attraction at sea. AquaMouse is a family water attraction that brings Mickey shorts to life, and it will include show scenes, lighting and special effects, and more throughout its 760 feet of tubes perched above the upper decks. Guests will board two-seater vehicles and ascend into the Mickey cartoon world of a new animated short called "Scuba Scramble." They'll zip through tunnels and up and down speed blasters before reaching a loop over the edge of the ship where they'll see clear views down to the ocean.

The fun doesn't end there. The Wish will have more pools and deck space than any other Disney ship, including a Toy Story Splash Zone for children. And only adults can access the Quiet Cove, an 18+ area complete with an infinity pool overlooking the ocean, cafe, and bar.

Enchanting Staterooms and Suites on the Disney Wish

The accommodations on board the Disney Wish will feature artwork and designs inspired by beloved fairy tales like Cinderella and include ample rooms for guests to store their luggage and relax. The ship has 1,254 staterooms, most of which will offer an ocean view, with the option to connect many rooms for larger groups traveling together. The new ship will offer more concierge staterooms than any other ship; 76 concierge staterooms and suites will have spacious accommodations inspired by "Tangled." These include one-bedroom concierge suites and the first-ever staterooms located above the bridge, which will offer incredible ocean views with floor-to-ceiling windows. Four royal suites inspired by "Sleeping Beauty" will offer unbeatable space and luxury.

There are two Princess Aurora Royal Suites and two Briar Rose Suites, and each pair includes a two-story and a single-story configuration. These suites have some truly incredible features, including a private hot tub on the veranda, two master bedrooms, and more, plus, the two-story suites will have floor-to-ceiling windows, a spiral staircase, and two-deck-high stained glass. The Concierge Lounge is also getting a sizable upgrade on the new ship — it will be more than three times the size of the lounges on other Disney ships — and it will offer a full bar, light bites, a kids' area, and a private sun deck with whirlpools, a wading pool, and more.

Entertainment on the Disney Wish

Disney Cruise Line ships are known for their world-class entertainment focusing on popular Disney stories, and the Disney Wish will take that to the next level with the fairy tale-inspired Grand Hall stage, celestial Luna venue, and the Hero Zone sports area. The Disney Wish will premiere two new stage shows (to be announced at a later date), and it will include an adaptation of "Disney's Aladdin — A Musical Spectacular." The ship will also have two cinemas and plenty more entertainment options on board.

Kids of all ages will love the themed spaces and fun programming available on the Disney Wish. The It's a Small World Nursery will cater to cruisers ages six months to three years, and Disney's Oceaneer Club will provide state-of-the-art areas for kids ages three to 12. These will include the Marvel Super Hero Academy, Fairytale Hall, and the new Walt Disney Imagineering Lab, where kids can learn Disney Imagineering secrets and design coasters at the Ride Studio. Edge caters to children ages 11 to 14 with a New York City-inspired space, and Vibe, an artsy Parisian hangout, is for teens 14 to 17.

The 2021-built/2022-inaugurated DCL Disney Wish cruise ship is The Walt Disney Company's newest and the first in a series of all three newbuilds . The Disney ship Wish was originally scheduled for launch in 2021-Q4 (inauguration by Christmas 2021) and to start passenger shipping operations in January 2022. However, due to COVID-related issues (shipbuilding yard closures, supply chain disruptions), the liner's introduction was postponed for 2022-Q2 (July).

MS Disney Wish is DCL fleet 's 5th vessel. The other two units from this series (TRITON-class sisterships) are with postponed launches and deliveries currently scheduled for 2024 ( Disney Treasure ) and 2025 ( Disney Destiny ).

The TRITON-class is very similar (as size and capacity) to the sisterships Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy .

DCL's new boats are originally planned for year-round deployed in the Caribbean and Florida-homeported - in PortMiami (Destiny) and Port Canaveral (Wish, Treasure).

Like all DCL ships, the Disney Wish vessel (IMO 9834739) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 311001098) and registered in Nassau .

History - construction and ownership

DCL-Disney Cruise Line is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company (shipowner). The company was incorporated in 1996 as "Magical Cruise Company Ltd". Walt Disney also owns the Bahamian private island Castaway Cay (exclusive port of call - for Disney ships only), an exclusive Cruise Terminal at Port Canaveral (Orlando) Florida USA  and the exclusive Lighthouse Point (privately-developed cruise resort complex on Eleuthera Island, Bahamas). Disney cruises are marketed as "family vacations" and feature unique and exclusive activities, such as costumed Disney Characters, adults-only deck areas, dedicated facilities for teens, kids and infants-toddlers, signature (trademarked) shipboard facilities and activities, themed live entertainment.

In early-March 2016, Walt Disney announced plans to build three new liners (the company's largest) and in July 2017 signed a 3-unit shipbuilding agreement with Meyer Werft Gmbh (Germany). Triton-Class vessel's interior design, facilities and cruise itineraries are still a well-protected secret. What is known so far is that they will be LNG-powered (by liquefied natural gas), gross tonnage 144,000 GT tons (larger than the originally announced 135,000 GT) and passenger capacity 2500 (1250 staterooms). This design is only slightly larger than the previous Disney Dream-Class.

The 3500-passenger ship Disney Wish is no exception with its primary market being families with small children (especially with kids younger than 8) - the major revenue provider for The Walt Disney Company. The vessel features some of the most innovative technologies and "best fun" ideas at sea, including:

• pieces of "Enchanted Art" adorning the walls of hallways - paintings and pictures that are actually framed LCD screens with a technology to recognize guests present and proceeding with one of several animations;
• wave phones in every stateroom (used to call or text other guests) and effectively replacing the old onboard beeper system (now the counselors' messages come directly to the parents' phones);
• the Magical Portholes on the walls of all Inside cabins (LED screens showing real-time outside views).

The company's clientele consists almost entirely of North American travelers (USA and Canada). Disney's new approach to teens and young couples features age-related activities and limited access to shipboard venues, adding a really strong appeal for multi-generational cruisers.

Ship's dress code is similar to Disney's luxury resorts - daily casual and evening resort casual - men with jackets (no ties) and pants, women - with summer dresses (optional gowns). All Disney Triton-Class ship cruise itineraries include one "pirate night" and one semi-formal night. On 3-day cruises, one night is casual, 4-days are with 2 casual evenings, on 5-days and longer - 3 nights are casual.

DCL's shipboard gratuities are now USD 14.50 per person per day (US$15.50 per Suite guest daily). Tips are generally given to waiting staff (including assistant waiters) and cabin attendants/stewards. Additionally, a 15% gratuity on all beverages is automatically charged to the passenger's shipboard account.

Decks and Cabins

MS Disney Wish staterooms (1238 total, in 26 grades) are mainly midship-located Balconies. All cabins and suites are well planned and equipped with the travel industry's latest amenities. Like on all Disney ships, passenger staterooms by sizes are ranked among the industry's largest standard cabins, designed to easily accommodate four people. Cabins are with ample storage space, lounge/living area and split bathrooms (1 room with shower-bathtub-sink-WC, and separate toilet-sink). Beds on are raised to allow underbed storage for 2 medium-sized suitcases. Each cabin has as standard amenities 2 mirrored vanities with chairs, 22-inch smart HDTV (satellite reception, infotainment system), iPod docking station, 2 rechargeable "Wave Phones" (for shipwide use).

The boat has 15 passenger-accessible decks , of which 10 are with cabins. There are a total of 35x wheelchair-accessible cabins for passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility.

DCL's innovative Inside Cabin features (industry's first) "Magical Portholes" - large, round-shaped LCD screens (positioned above the beds) projecting real-time outside views provided by the ship's cameras. Veranda Cabin's balcony is fitted with 2 deckchairs and a low table.

Concierge Suites and Concierge Family Cabins offer direct access to the ship's concierge-served facilities (1 small lounge, private sundeck area with chairs, free food and drinks). Most 1-Bedroom Suites are with connecting doors, Queen bed (convertible to twins), sitting/lounge area with double sofabed, 1 pull-down bed (in the living room), walk-in closet, 2 bathrooms (one with a whirlpool hot-tub).

One of the largest accommodations are the Royal Suites, featuring a separate living room, wet bar, kitchenette (small cooking/dining area), media library, outdoor/balcony Jacuzzi.

The "Wish Tower Suite" is the DCL's (and the industry's) first-of-its-kind loft suite located in the ship's forward funnel (smokestack).

The unique accommodation is sized 1965 ft2 (183 m2), with max capacity 8 passengers, and interior design themed on Walt Disney's 3D animation film "Moana" (2016). The Wish Tower Suite features 2x master bedrooms, 4x full bathrooms, half-bath (powder room), library (converting to a bedroom), kids' room (with built-in bunkbeds). The living room (on the lower level) is flanked by an open dining area, a pantry, and a bar, all offering unique views across the ship's upper decks through a 2-story window wall.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

The Wish ship has 3x themed MDRs (main restaurants) called "Animator's Palate", "Enchanted Garden", and "Royal Palace". There are 2x adults-only specialty restaurants - "Remy" (named after the "Ratatouille" movie star, French cuisine) and "Palo" (Italian cuisine) as alternative dining options. The line's Rotational Dining system allows you to rotate to each of the three main restaurants each night while your servers follow you. The Animator's Palate has screens showing animated Disney characters and themes from "Finding Nemo" movie. The Enchanted Garden is a Versailles-inspired room, featuring lighting effects, transforming the day into night. The Royal Palace is princesses-themed with numerous portraits of "Cinderella" and the "Sleeping Beauty" movie characters (even the bread baskets are shaped like Cinderella's coach). The food quality is very good, the service staff is amicable and timely.

The Remy restaurant is a classy place to be on any special occasion, offering a marvelous French menu and charging serious prices - a service fee of $75 PP (reservations are required, along with the formal dress code), drinks and wine are additional. The Palo restaurant is an Italian (Mediterranean) eatery with US$20 cover PP (serves dinner and on selected days - Champagne brunch). Superb fish and seafood entrees, a cold buffet (meats, cheese, shrimp, salads and desserts) and several hot made-to-order items. The "Cabanas" casual dining complex on Deck 11 has several food and drink stations for hot and cold buffet items (including made-to-order omelets and sandwiches). The "Flo's Cafe" offers burgers, chicken fingers, wraps, pizza, salads.

In late-December 2020, DCL released a teaser video that revealed that the Disney character Cinderella will be the lobby statue positioned in the Atrium's lower/base level. The midship-located Grand Hall Atrium is a 3-deck high entertainment area with an open-floor design and a grand staircase. At the liner's stern (aft hull section) is painted the Disney character Rapunzel.

Disney's 35-minute youtube video production released on April 29, 2021, revealed the following signature features of DCL Disney Wish.

• onboard appearances by Disney characters (Olaf, Captain Minnie, Captain Mickey, a fairy godmother)
• The 760-ft (232-m) long waterslide (Slide-a-Saurus Rex) has show scenes, special lighting and sound effects. In comparison to Fantasy-Dream, Wish has more swimming pools (7 total) and outdoor deck spaces, plus AquaMouse (pool district/water playground for families).
• The Oceaneer Club (a dedicated venue with supervised activities for children 3- to 12-years-old) is currently not available on other Disney ships. Other kids clubs include Marvel Super Hero Academy (Spider-Man, Ant-Man, The Wasp, Black Panther, kids can make their own-design superhero costumes), Fairytale Hall (Rapunzel Art Studio, Belle Library, Anna and Elsa’s Summerhus), Imagineering Lab (VR experience/kids can design and virtually ride their own roller coasters - based on designs like Tomorrowland's Space Mountain Roller Coaster, Anaheim Disneyland's Matterhorn Bobsleds roller coasters, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad/mine-train roller coaster), Small World Nursery (for toddlers 6-months to 3-years-old, with babysitting), Hero Zone (indoor playground/sports arena), Olaf’s Royal Picnic (character interactions, live music performances).
• For teenagers (11 to 17-yo) are designed exclusive hangouts with supervised programs. Children 11 to 14-yo have a separate hangout.
• On the deck above the Navigation Bridge/Wheelhouse are positioned staterooms. Some of the Suites are 2-level accommodations (fleet's first duplex apartments with connecting spiral staircases).

New for DCL dining venues include Palo Steakhouse (115-seats, also serving traditional Italian cuisine/Cogsworth-themed), Enchante Restaurant (by Michelin chef Arnaud Lallement/Lumiere-themed, capacity 45 seats, a-la-carte-priced menu, 6-course & 9-course dinners), The Rose Restaurant & Bar Lounge ("Beauty and the Beast" movie-themed).

Quiet Cove Pool District is an adults-only Sundeck with a swimming pool (infinity pool), Jacuzzis, Pool Bar, Pool Cafe.

The boat has two 3D Cinemas (named Wonderland Cinema, Never Land Cinema). These are screening rooms (with capacity 84 seats and 86 seats) for films produced by Walt Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm.

Luna Square is a midship-located space with family-style entertainment during the day, and in the evenings transforming into an adults-only venue. Luna Lounge features a 2-deck LED screen, Bar (Luna Libations), stage (for interactive and live shows, like “Villains Game Night”, “Disney Songbook”, “Disney Uncharted Adventure”.

Star Wars superheroes entertain adults at the new Star Wars movie-themed " Hyperspace Lounge ”. The venue became "hyper-famous" for offering one of the world's most expensive cocktails - the Kaliburr Crystal, priced at USD 5000. The new drink is encased inside a camtono (a security container for storing valuables in The Mandalorian/The Book of Boba Fett) which opens with a button touch and a twist of a rotary cylindric handle. The carrier's side panels then fall open granting access to the "content" - three shot-style glasses full of the expensive concoction. While the ingredients are not listed, there are some speculations that one of them is Remy Martin's Louis XIII cognac (US$3000-4000 a bottle) or other top-shelf liquor.

• Regular-priced beverages at the Hyperspace Lounge are priced from US$15.
• With the purchase of any cocktail, guests can take home as a souvenir the Hyperspace Lounge Glass for an additional US$12.

Disney ship Wish has 3 family restaurants with table service: "Arendelle" (with a Frozen Dining Experience/live shows featuring Disney Frozen 2 film's characters Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Sven, Olaf), "1923" (the year Walt Disney Studios opened/with menus featuring California food specialties), and "Worlds of Marvel" (superheroes and multimedia dining experience).

Also new for the DCL fleet are the "quick food" bars "Marceline Market" and "Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods". Both are complimentary and open throughout the day.

• "Marceline Market" is a food marketplace with a changing menu (and daily specials), both indoor-outdoor seating. All dishes are freshly prepared and include American and international classics, seafood, comfort foods, baked goods, soups, salads, vegetarian and vegan fare, desserts. Marceline Market is casual, with buffet-style dining (for breakfast and lunch) and table-served diners (with cooked-to-order entrees).
• "Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods" is a family restaurant (for quick bites) open throughout the day, including for lunch and dinner. This is an outdoor (seaside boardwalk-style) eatery with shaded seating and all 5x themed food stations - Mickey’s Smokestack Barbecue (fleet's first BBQ bar), Donald’s Cantina (fleet's first Mexican food bar), Daisy’s Pizza Pies, Goofy’s Grill, Sweet Minnie’s Ice Cream (also offering soft ice cream).

On Disney Wish (at Worlds of Marvel Restaurant/deck 4) debuts DCL's "Avengers: Quantum Encounter”. The new cinematic experience combines dining (Marvel Cinematic Universe-themed menu) with superheroes (Ant-Man and The Wasp on an action-packed mission), storytelling (with guests playing interactive roles) and technology (Quantum Core is a new device that causes objects to change size/shrink and grow remotely). Worlds of Marvel Restaurant's dishes are inspired by Marvel Studios' fictional countries Wakanda and Sokovia, as well as Avengers Compound (NYC base).

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

The ship's kids clubs are the main reason for Disney's high loyalty passengers ratio. Besides all the Disney characters, innovative technologies and fun attractions, Disney children counselors are a pretty big reason many families to repeat their bookings with the company. Always smiling and friendly, they are hugely experienced, all college-educated, attentive and downright. The Oceaneer's "Club" and "Lab" facilities (ages 3-10) are connected, thus doubling the fun space. The "Oceaneer's Club" features the "Andy's Room" (with oversized Disney characters for kids to climb on) and the "Laugh Floor" (with its "laugh-o-meter" and Mike and Sully of "Monsters Inc"). The "Oceaneer's Lab" is maritime-themed, featuring an Animator's Studio and a small Sound Studio. The new Disney approach allows all kids ages 3-10 to access the same clubs with separate rooms and age-related activities.

Cruise liner's children club is called "Edge" (ages 11-13) properly secluded on Deck 13 in the funnel. The best attractions here are the 18 ft (5,5 m) high LCD wall, the video karaoke, numerous interconnected PCs. The teen-only "Vibe" club (ages 14-17) is sized 9000 ft2 (836 m2), fitted with a fountain bar and its own sundeck and swimming pools.

Public spaces are decorated in deep blue and red, with numerous "Mickeys" just about everywhere (cabin, artwork, dinnerware, railings). One of the ship's most memorable places is the 3-deck high Atrium Lobby with its golden hue, the wide royalty-style winding staircase, and the Donald Duck bronze statue. The Grand Hall Atrium is a hub area connecting restaurants, theaters, and shops. You may check emails in the Internet cafe, but there's also Wi-Fi coverage throughout the ship.

Like all Disney liners, Wish has no Casino (gambling lounge).

Onboard fun activities

All stage shows feature intricate sets and Disney themed captivating performances, and the big place for grand entertainment is the Disney Theater with goldies like the "Golden Mickeys" and "Villains Tonight", new amazing stage productions, like the "Disney's Believe" (directed by Gordon Greenberg) and all the best Disney movies in 3D. Walt Disney characters onboard have always been the greatest sensation of all, and there are countless opportunities to meet and greet Mickey and company around the ship - in contrast to Disneyland, here they all are accessible and will always stop for a hug and a photo with you. Another big success is the "Pirates in the Caribbean" kids party divided into two programs - the sing-along "Mickey's Pirates in the Caribbean" followed by the "Club Pirate" (with many special effects) and great Disney fireworks (between the shows).

Wellness (SPA and FITNESS), swimming pools, waterslides, technology

The wellness complex "Senses" (Spa & Beauty) offers all the usual treatments (haircuts, manicures) and more exotic choices (hot-stone massages, mud baths).

• Senses Spa features an outdoor relaxation space/sundeck (with Jacuzzis, padded sun loungers and deckchairs) where can also be held open-air Yoga sessions.
• Senses Spa's "The Rainforest" (ice lounge) offers thermal therapies and is fitted with heated loungers, sensory showers.
• The wellness complex also has Treatment Rooms (for massages), Sauna Room, Steam Room, Dry Room, Spa Villas (for couples).
• Senses Fitness Center consists of a large main room (with premium gym equipment) and separate Cycle Studio and Aerobics Studio (where at an additional fee are offered Yoga and Pilates classes).

Untangled Salon (Beauty Parlor) and Hook’s Barbery (Barber Shop/Men’s Salon) are DCL fleet's first venues dedicated to hair- and beauty services for adults.

• Untangled Salon (themed on Princess Rapunzel from Disney's movie "Tangled", 2010) is colored in purple and gold and offers haircuts and styling, manicures, pedicures, teeth whitening, skin treatments.
• Hook’s Barbery (themed on Captain Hook/from Disney's movie "Peter Pan", 1953) is decorated in dark woods, furnished with leather chairs and golden mirrors, and offers haircuts, shaves, skincare and nail services. Part of the Barbery is a hidden bar serving premium liquors (bourbons, vintage whiskies, aged rums).

The Sports Deck has a small sports court, a mini-golf course, Ping-Pong tables, a walking/jogging track.

The "Chill" is a teen-only Spa within the facility.

The pool deck has a large area for family fun water activities, featuring 2 whirlpools/hot tubs and 2 kids pools - "Donald's" (5 ft deep) and "Mickey's" (with a spiral slide). A big attraction here is the big LED screen mounted on the funnel. There's a toddler splash area (Nemo-themed) located in the center on Deck 11 with huge glass panes for parents to monitor their kids.

The Slide-a-Saurus Rex waterslide (water-coaster at sea) is located atop the ship and features a 765 ft (233 m) long 4-decks high transparent tube. The spinning tube reaches an incredible height of 150 ft (46 m) above sea level (there's a 42-inch / 107 cm height requirement). "Toy Story Splash Zone" is the kids' aquapark where the waterslide ends. The adults-only "Quiet Cove" pool area is a great place to hide from all the little angels and devils around the ship.

Midship on decks 11-12 there is a Mickey-themed family district with a total of 6x pools (various sized and with different depths) surrounded by spacious sundecks with plenty of sun loungers.

"Disney Uncharted Adventure" is another fleet-first - an interactive family experience that combines imagination and VR technology into a multidimensional sea voyage full of Disney-Pixar characters. The new gaming experience is offered via guests' mobile devices. Via the app "Play Disney Parks", the phones/tablets transform into magical spyglasses allowing them to sail uncharted worlds, unlock missions, solve puzzles, conquer other "virtual cruisers".

• The "virtual ship" is mastered by Captain Minnie Mouse assisted by Captain Mickey.
• Players choose the ship's course, with VR options like Motunui Island (from the Moana movie), Neverland Island (Peter Pan movie), New Orleans (from "The Princess and the Frog" movie), Sydney NSW (from Finding Nemo) and others.
• "Disney Uncharted Adventure" gaming includes signature characters like Moana, Tiana, Tinker Bell, Kakamora, Peter Pan, Captain Cook, Nemo & friends.

• The water ride starts with boarding 2-seater vehicles and ascending into a "magical tunnel" teleporting into the virtual worlds of “Scuba Scramble” and "Swiss Meltdown" (two short animation movies played out through the tube's large virtual windows/LED screens). Along the way are encountered curious sea creatures and popular Disney characters.
• At the height of the "show", passengers are blasted out of the tunnel to start watersliding around the upper ship decks - first around the forward funnel (through an enclosed tube/lighting effects), then through a dark tunnel followed by a transparent tube revealing breathtaking ocean views. Follow a series of speed blasters up and down ending with a loop over the ship's edge and into the Mermaid Lagoon (swimming pool).
• Both AquaMouse animated shorts (Scuba Scramble, Swiss Meltdown) are starred by Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. "Scuba Scramble" is an underwater adventure (at Mermaid Lagoon), while "Swiss Meltdown" is a mountain sledding excursion going awry. The two chipmunks Chip and Dale are in both shows, hitchhiking to Castaway Cay (DCL's Bahamian island) .

• Walt Disney Theatre (1274-seats, Magical Forest-themed entertainment lounge) is fitted with a Dolby Atmos (3D sound system) and offers live shows, aerial acrobatics performances, 3x grand-style productions (in the evenings), bingo, trivia games and 3D movies (during the day). There are two shows held each evening - at 6:15 pm and 8:30 pm.
• Buena Vista Theatre (400-seat 4D cinema, features 3D movies, Dolby Surround 7.1 and Dolby 3D movie technology)
• Triton Atrium (3-deck high central ship area, featuring marble-carpet flooring, grand staircase, and panoramic glass elevators) - the boat has 16x Lifts total / 8x midship and 8x aft. The Atrium's lobby level houses the Grand Hall Stage (designed for live shows).

Itineraries

Starting in July 2022, Disney Wish itinerary program is based on roundtrips to the Eastern and Western Caribbean departing from homeport Port Canaveral (Orlando City) Florida . A signature port destination included in all itineraries is DCL's private island in the Bahamas Castaway Cay .

The Maiden Voyage was rescheduled for July 22, 2022 (postponed from June 9th) due to construction delays, but eventually departed on July 14th. The ship's ex-Port Canaveral DCL cruise program includes short break roundtrips to The Bahamas (3- and 4-night itineraries), all visiting Castaway Cay with Nassau .

Bookings on Disney Wish cruises were opened on May 17, 2021 (for Castaway Club members) and on May 27th (to general customers).

On July 15, 2017, Disney Cruise Line/DCL officially announced the company's plans to build 3 new vessels in Germany, at Meyer Werft 's Papenburg Shipyard . The so exciting for all Mickey Mouse fans announcement was made by Bob Chapek (Walt Disney Parks and Resorts company's Chairman).

MS Disney Wish's construction officially started on April 8, 2021, with the keel-laying ceremony (Meyer Werft yard/hull number 705) held at Shipyard Papenburg, being the 54th cruise vessel constructed there. During the special event, the first hull block was lowered into the building dock, and, for good luck, under the keel was placed a newly minted coin that features the Disney character Captain Minnie. The coin was placed by Philip Matthew Gennotte - Executive Manager of the subsidiary Walt Disney Imagineering (Germany) GmbH. DCL also announced that Captain Minnie will be part of the ship's hull artwork (at the bow).

Disney Wish was launched/floated out from drydock (at Meyer Werft Papenburg) on February 11, 2022.

At ~8 am local time (~6 am UTC) on March 30, 2022, started the ship's 10-hour (32-km / 20-mi long) conveyance voyage on Ems River from Papenburg towards Emden . The voyage started with the Papenburg yard's dock lock passage, and around noon passed the Friesen Bridge (near Weener). During the night, the ship arrived at Ems Barrage (a storm surge barrier near Gandersum), then headed for Eemshaven (Netherlands) where remained docked for final outfitting. Curiously, the ship navigated/moved backward, being assisted by tugboats. Next is listed the conveyance voyage's schedule (local time):

• March 30 (~12:15 pm) Friesen-Brucke/Bridge passage (near Weener)
• March 30 (~3:30 pm) Jann-Berghaus-Brucke/Bridge passage (near Leer )
• March 31 (~12:30 am) Ems Barrage passage (near Gandersum)

On January 22, 2019, Port Canaveral officials gathered to discuss the new liners' docking at DCL's exclusive Cruise Terminal 8. The facility was improved and upgraded in order to accommodate/berth the 3 new boats simultaneously. With scheduled deliveries in 2022 (Wish), 2024 ( Treasure ) and 2025 ( Destiny ), the newbuilds are designed with ~1250 staterooms each. To handle them, Orlando Port Canaveral's Disney Terminal 8 was upgraded to passenger capacity 7500 tourists at a time.

DCL's TRITON liners have LOA length 341 m (1119 ft), making them the fleet's longest. By GT tonnage/volume (~144,000 tons each) and passenger capacity (2500 / max 3500), the newbuilds are similarly sized as the sisterships Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy , but LNG-powered (by liquefied natural gas) and with more and new facilities and amenities. In 2025, Walt Disney will nearly double its old 4-ship fleet (Dream, Fantasy, Magic, Wonder).

At the released on March 9, 2018, the new ship's exterior rendering was shown the company's traditional black-white-red hull color scheme. New in the design is the superstructure's golden flair. Between the two funnels is located top-deck's waterpark with slides. Balcony cabins are positioned midship, which allows larger staterooms.

'"Disney Triton" was chosen as the name of Walt Disney's new vessel class/series. Triton is Ancient Greece's god of the sea. Being the son of Poseidon (the god of the waters) and Amphitrite (the goddess of the Sea), Triton is the herald for his father and usually represented as a Merman (male mermaid) having an upper human body and tail and fins of a fish. Like his father, Triton carries a trident, but his special attribute is a twisted conch shell with which he calms or raises the waves. According to the Disney story, King Triton is the protective and loving father of "The Little Mermaid" Ariel, as well as one of the most powerful Disney characters ever created.

Disney Wish was officially delivered by Meyer Werft to DCL on June 9, 2022, in Port Bremerhaven . The ceremony was attended by Thomas Mazloum (DCL's President), Jan Meyer (Meyer Werft GmbH's Managing Director), Henning Stellermann (Meyer Werft's Project Manager).

Following the delivery to DCL, Disney Wish left Bremerhaven (on June 9th, at 17:29 UTC) and via Ponta Delgada/Sao Miguel Island Azores Portugal (bunkering stop on June 13th, between 12:11-21:56 UTC) made the Transatlantic crossing from Europe to the USA, arriving at Port Canaveral on June 20th, at 9:08 UTC.

In 2019 was announced that during their inaugural seasons in the Caribbean, two of Disney's newest ships (Wish and Treasure) will be homeported in Port Canaveral - the principal seaport for Orlando City (Walt Disney's theme park capital). The 3rd newbuild (Destiny) will be based in PortMiami . In Miami and Port Canaveral, DCL's newest liners are fueled by LNG bunkering barges docking alongside the berthed vessel.

In late-April 2021, DCL released the first video of the "Designing the Disney Wish" series themed on the ship's design, Disney characters and special features. The hull design features Captain Minnie Mouse (bow character) and the sculpture of Rapunzel (aft/at the stern). The liner's interior is designed using three classic Disney themes - fairytale castles (including for the Atrium's Grand Hall), forests and animals, and the spirit of the sea. The 3-deck high Atrium (midship-located, open-floor area) features a grand staircase, the bronze sculpture of Cinderella (at the Lobby level), and a large chandelier with thousands of crystals and a huge "wishing star" at its bottom.

Ship christening 2022

In June 2022 DCL announced that instead of a godmother/godfather/godparents the Wish ship will have godchildren - from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Make-A-Wish is a 1980-founded children's charity (Phoenix, Arizona USA-headquartered American non-profit organization) created to fulfill the wishes of children with critical illnesses (website wish.org).

DCL's announcement included that during the ship's naming ceremony, the Make-A-Wish children will recite the traditional blessings for the vessel. The Disney-Make-A-Wish partnership also includes creating and selling fleetwide Disney-themed merchandise, with 10% of the profits donated to the Foundation.

The christening ceremony was held on June 30th (pierside at Port Canaveral Terminal) and attended by Bob Chapek (The Walt Disney Company's CEO) and Josh D'Amaro (Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products). Anika Noni Rose (voice actor for the character Tiana in "The Princess and the Frog"/2009 animated musical film) performed live singing along with characters from the movies Toy Story, Frozen, Marvel, Star Wars.

Near the end of the naming ceremony, three godchildren/Make-A-Wish children recited the traditional ship blessing.

First look: We got early access to Disney Cruise Line's first new ship in 10 years

As Mickey Mouse would say, "Oh boy!"

For the first time in a decade, Disney Cruise Line is debuting a new ship, and — as we saw during an exclusive sneak peek on Tuesday — it's truly spectacular.

Christened Wednesday at Port Canaveral in Florida, 2,500-passenger Disney Wish (4,000 at total occupancy) offers everything from a "Star Wars"-themed bar and a waterslide that features animation to a revamped kids club and interactive "Frozen"- and Marvel-themed restaurants.

As you can see in our first-look array of Disney Wish photos below, it's a vessel heavy on technology, as well as magic.

When you first board Disney Wish, you'll be welcomed by cast members (Disney's term for crew and other employees) with a booming announcement as you step into the Grand Hall. It's a sweeping three-deck Cinderella-themed atrium with a stage area, balconies and bejeweled staircases. There's also a bronze sculpture of Cinderella herself and a chandelier that was constructed to look like an upside-down version of her twirling dress.

Disney isn't just for kids. In that vein, there are plenty of bars for adults to grab a drink. But this is Disney, after all, so you should fully expect that many libations will come with a bit of fanfare -- and a price tag to match.

Perhaps the most anticipated watering hole on the vessel is the Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge. The premise is that you're on a luxury ride between galaxies; every few minutes, the screen behind the bar jumps to a different location at hyperspeed.

Another great bar that's worth a visit is The Bayou. With its New Orleans vibe, it's an obvious tie-in to "The Princess and the Frog," boasting earthy tones and a ceiling overflowing with flowers. Rumor has it that you can also find beignets at this outpost.

Disney Cruise Line's Oceaneer Club is for kids aged 3 to 12. There's also the Small World Nursery for little ones aged 6 months to 3 years. Offerings include a nursery area with cribs; Mickey & Minnie Captain's Deck, a nautically themed playground; an Imagineering Lab for creative activities; Star Wars Cargo Bay, a "Star Wars"-themed play area; and other spaces that feature Princesses, Marvel superheroes and more.

Kids can reach the Oceaneer Club in one of several ways, but usually their preferred method is the slide, located in the Grand Hall. (Don't worry, parents. There are stairs for you.)

For tweens and teens, there are Edge and Vibe, where the 11-14 and 14-17 crowds can chill with video games, coffee and mocktail bars and a less organized "come and go as you please" setup. Vibe is equipped with a side room that can be separated for use by 18- to 20-year olds who are too old for the kids club but too young to hang out at adult bars.

Dining is always a production on a Disney Cruise -- and that's a good thing. Disney Wish offers three new main dining room concepts, including 1923, an ode to old Hollywood and the golden age of animation; Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure, which celebrates Anna and Kristoff's upcoming nuptials; and World of Marvel, where diners find themselves and their ship shrunken by Ant-Man after a Quantum Core mishap.

Attractions and public spaces

On Disney Wish, the main pool deck features four tiered pools. There's also a splash area for kids.

Another one of Disney Wish's highlights is the AquaMouse water slide. Billed as the line's first at-sea attraction, it's a combination of watery fun and animation that both kids and adults will love.

For anyone who needs some relaxation after a day riding AquaMouse, Senses Spa offers a complete menu of spa treatments. For the first time, the space also has an outdoor area with loungers and hot tubs.

Entertainment is everywhere on Disney Wish. With that in mind, there are several theaters and lounges that house everything from major Broadway-caliber productions and game shows to trivia and movies.

For a sweet treat, including gelato, macarons and more, check out Joyful Sweets, near the pool deck.

Feeling like you need a refresh? Captain Hook now has his very own barbershop for the fellas, and women can head to the Untangled Salon to be coiffed and manicured. For kids, the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is the place to be. Parents, be warned: makeovers for your minis don't come cheap.

A new feature for Disney Cruise Line, the Hero Zone is a multipurpose space that serves as Disney Wish's basketball court and a venue for a new inflatable play area that's set up at select times on each sailing. It also hosts Jack Jack's Incredible Diaper Dash, where parents enter the littlest cruisers into an adorable race.

Although Disney Wish offers mainly short voyages, anyone needing to do laundry on the ship can take advantage of onboard launderettes, like this one located on Deck 8.

For more adult respite, seek out the Quiet Cove, which offers pool, hot tub, lounge and bar areas just for grownups. The super-luxe ambiance will leave you feeling refreshed for sure.

This balcony cabin sleeps two, but there are several options for families that sleep up to five, as well as connecting cabins that make it easy for larger families or groups to travel together.

Disney Wish is replete with suite options, including Concierge Suites and two-deck options like the Aurora Suite and the Tower Suite. The first has access to a dedicated Concierge Lounge, while the the last has three bedrooms and 3.5 baths and is built into the vessel's fake funnel. The Tower Suite is the most expensive accommodation on the ship, running several thousand dollars per night.

Disney Wish has taken Disney Cruise Line's Midship Detective Agency to a whole new level with Uncharted Adventure, a high-tech cell phone-based interactive game that takes participants around the ship in search of clues. It's not quite ready yet, but a demo was set up for us by a team of Imagineers during the preview sailing.

Disney Wish Cruise Ship Review

The Disney Wish is going to garner strong opinions from passionate cruisers and first-timers. The newest addition to DCL’s fleet will likely be your favorite or least favorite ship, with only a little middle ground in between reactions. This review of the Disney Wish cruise ship offers our big picture impressions on its highs and low.

Dubbed the “castle on the sea,” the Disney Wish heavily emphasizes some of the company’s MVP IPs. Star Wars, Marvel, Frozen, and more all have strong presences aboard the ship. Just about everything is tied to characters in some fashion, with the Wish feeling very much in line with some of Disney’s other recent additions in its theme parks.

In fact, I found myself noticing similarities to Shanghai Disneyland throughout the Disney Wish. That might seem like an odd comparison given that one is a theme park and the other a cruise ship, but the case could be made that the Wish has more in common with Disney’s newest castle park than the rest of its fleet. Well, once you get past the fact that one was built on solid ground and the other is a big boat (sorry Sarah, big ship ) sailing the seas.

We had the chance to spend 3-nights aboard the Disney Wish for its Christening Cruise. During this media cruise, we experienced a lot of what the new ship has to offer, including backstory and behind the scenes info about the ship’s creation.

We also bought our own cruise aboard the Disney Wish way back last summer when bookings opened and will return as paying guests to see how things differ then. With that out of the way, let’s turn to some broad-strokes impressions of the Disney Wish. Much in the same way that Shanghai Disneyland largely eschewed the familiar castle park formula, so too does the Disney Wish opt for pretty significant twists on the DCL playbook.

Although the iconic exterior design of the Disney Wish matches that of its predecessors, much has changed on the inside. This starts with the layout, which I found a bit funky and downright counterintuitive at times. We never totally got our bearings on the Disney Wish, and know we’re not alone. Some of this could be attributed to a lack of familiarity with the Wish as compared to the other ships, but some odd choices were also made.

Beyond the layout, there are also major stylistic differences. The interior design no longer seems focused on evoking the glamour and beauty of the golden age of ocean liners. It largely opts against period-inspired Art Deco and Art Nouveau styles in favor of a variety of disparately-themed spaces.

Those varying themed spaces exist on the other ships, but the variety of styles is much more pronounced on the Disney Wish. To some degree, this impedes the flow of the ship.

To the extent that there is a unifying interior design motif, the style can probably best be described as glam. Many of the spaces–particularly those for adults that don’t overtly integrate intellectual property–utilize sumptuous materials, touchable textures, and glistening metallics to create an air of opulence and extravagance.

In most of these venues, this works really well. The adult specialty dining area features glam flourishes, and sprinkles in Beauty and the Beast  characters and European stylization in a fashion that is surprisingly cohesive. This area is similar to Enchanted Rose Lounge at Grand Floridian, but miles better–more well-appointed, tasteful, and luxurious. Enchanté is the highlight, but this whole area is superb. As a whole, the speciality dining deck is an unequivocal upgrade on the other ships.

Same goes for the kids clubs, which offer huge improvements over the other ships and a ton of cool new things to do. Adults have long been envious of the fun, interactive experiences offered exclusively to children aboard Disney Cruise Line. To some extent, that has been directly remedied with new themed spaces for all ages.

However, the “problem” is that the kids clubs also got better and added awesome stuff…and now I want those things for adults. For all of the hype about Hyperspace Lounge, the coolest Star Wars space is far and away the Cargo Bay for kids. Also, is it really too much to ask for an Imagineering Blue Sky Bar where adults can imbibe and build/ride roller coaster simulations?! (Okay, perhaps that last part is a recipe for ‘protein spills.’)

In other cases, whether the changes are improvements is more subjective.

The modified atrium, for example, has become a better canvas for live entertainment, character appearances, and more. In simple terms, its design serves more practical purposes than aesthetic ones. In so doing, it has made compromises for the sake of functionality, and lost a degree of elegance and sophistication in the process.

This atrium and other parts of the ship also have the same style of Shanghai Disneyland. At times, that park feels like it’s shouting “OPULENCE!” while in actuality having a plastic-y or insubstantial feel. In other words, the substance doesn’t always adequately support the superficial style. (I apologize for the Shanghai Disneyland comparisons; I realize these are meaningless for the vast majority of readers, but some of Disney Wish’s parallels were uncanny and I found that interesting.)

Whether those changes to the atrium aboard the Disney Wish are “worth it” is really going to depend upon the guest. If you’re big on characters and cruise programming, they probably will be—the new approach opens a lot of doors as to what can be done there.

That’s really the story of the Disney Wish as a whole. In several ways, it feels like the guiding light behind this project was bringing as much of the contemporary Disney theme park experience as possible to a cruise ship.

Obviously, this is easiest to see in the aspects involving Star Wars, Marvel, and Frozen. It also applies to AquaMouse and other venues, as well as the prevalence of IP and degree of interactivity aboard the Disney Wish. There are elements here that reminds me of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Galactic Starcruiser, and Avengers Campus.

For the most part, those are favorable comparisons. There’s a lot that Imagineering and the creative entertainment teams behind the Disney Wish got really, really right. I want to focus on the big picture here—we’ll have separate posts to come about specifics.

In addition to the kids clubs, the dinner shows are fantastic and exemplars of themed design and/or storytelling. We loved all three, with some caveats about Worlds of Marvel.

Same goes for the food and beverage program as a whole.

The restaurants, fine dining, lounges, and even counter service are all the best of Disney Cruise Line. If your primary concerns are activities for kids, eating, or entertainment—there’s a strong chance the Disney Wish is going to be your favorite ship. It iterates upon or flat out reinvents all of that to great success.

It’s a similar story with the staterooms. These offer an array of little form and function improvements that, in aggregate, make them a lot nicer and more comfortable than their predecessors. (Sarah has more experience than me with Disney Cruise Line, and she gushed about the staterooms.)

Everything from the art to the lighting to the utilization of space is more thoughtful than the other four ships that came before. As with so much of the ship, it seems like DCL learned from what worked and didn’t in the past, and made incremental improvements on those bases.

Given its emphasis on intellectual property and characters, you might be concerned for the nightlife. The Disney Wish also improves upon most of the lounges and bars really well. The lounges are interesting and varied, with drink options that are thoughtfully-crafted (read: not colorful sugar water with a splash of alcohol).

The bigger concern from my perspective is the size and capacity of certain venues, in general. Even on this Christening Cruise with only a portion of staterooms filled, some of these areas were woefully undersized for demand. It’s hard to say how that will shake out with normal demographics (and full slate of cruise programming), but I foresee it being a problem.

I think this will actually work itself out over time. Some of the most high-profile venues were among my biggest disappointments, while ones that were barely featured in marketing ran circles around those.

I’d hazard a guess that DCL diehards will quickly learn this, and congregate in the “hidden gems” once they check off some of the one-and-done themed settings. Conversely, first timers will flock to the popular but underwhelming spaces.

With all of that in mind, let’s offer early assessments and recommendations about which demographics might want to book the Disney Wish, and who might want to wait–or book another ship.

The group we’d expect to least enjoy the Disney Wish is experienced cruisers who see DCL as a brand unto itself, and have come to appreciate the style and unique personality of the fleet. Disney Cruise Line diehards are the ones most likely to come in with a certain set of expectations, and like cruising for the distinct DCL atmosphere and experience.

I think there’s more than a mild possibility that these fans will be disappointed in the different direction the Disney Wish takes, and the way it does not comport with their expectations—and what made them fans in the first place.

This is really the first in DCL’s fleet to lean away from being a cruise ship or even strong nautical themes and motifs. It’s somewhat akin to a fan of the original Disneyland going to Shanghai Disneyland and seeing how much that deviated from the tried and true formula. Some may embrace the changes; others may feel it’s too substantial of a departure.

The Disney Wish is perfect for first-timers who are planning a once in a lifetime voyage and want something that is distinctly  Disney,  featuring the characters and movies their kids love. It delivers that exceptionally well, offering a slice of newer additions to the parks while at sea. It also iterates and improves upon some of the biggest shortcomings of the other ships, offering a better overall experience for most mainstream audiences.

As with the other ships, the experience is more laid back and relaxing than the theme parks, thus also making the Disney Wish a good alternative to those for first-timers who want an actual  vacation rather than a trip. (There’s a huge distinction, and one people who haven’t done Walt Disney World may not realize exists.)

However, the Disney Wish is not the ship we’d recommend to cruise newbies who are potentially interested in experiencing the other ships–or longtime Walt Disney World fans wanting to take their first cruise. That comes down to the expectations this particular ship creates that the rest don’t really match.

This is hardly criticism of the Disney Wish, but rather, acknowledging that it’s a bit of an outlier. It’s one that’s better in many ways, delivering exactly what some fans will want and making it difficult to go back to the other ships. By contrast, the things that the other ships do better are a matter of preference, and less make or break.

It’s difficult to articulate, but the best example I can give is that it’s easier to go from the Port Orleans Resorts to Caribbean Beach than in the other direction. The atmosphere of the former is arguably better, but transportation at the latter is hard to give up. Similar idea here, but obviously very different specifics.

Ultimately, we both really enjoyed our first experience aboard the Disney Wish. While this offers critique and criticism, that’s the nature of the beast when it comes to reviewing something. From our perspective, there are more hits than misses with the Disney Wish, but it’s far from flawless. Nevertheless, most of our complaints are relatively minor and some could be attributable to familiarity with the first four ships, a lack of that with the Wish, and personal preferences.

In the end, the Disney Wish is the ship in DCL’s fleet that I’m most eager to revisit and also one that I think has a lot of promise. While the others are already in their mature form, the Wish is going to continue evolving in the months and years to come and—hopefully—improving. There’s a ton of potential and a lot to like already, and it’s only going to get better as the company figures out how to leverage some of its ‘blank canvas’ spaces.

With that said, I doubt the Disney Wish will go down as my favorite ship or the one we’ll sail most in the long-term once that “new ship smell” wears off. For one thing, it’s a lot more expensive than comparable itineraries on the other ships and I’m not sure it’s worth the premium pricing–especially on repeat sailings. For another, I really like the layout, style, design of the other ships (save for the specialty dining and staterooms). Then again, I also prefer many of Walt Disney World’s older resorts to the newer ones, so your mileage–or nautical knots–may vary.

When do you go on your paid cruise? Curious when you will write more so I can decide if I need to change my plans completely. We are first timers and sort of fit the category of people who would enjoy it. But, still, I may not be able to unsee the cheap-plasticy glam. I do appreciate the “new ship smell” and decided it was worth the premium…but…

How was the adult entertainment options if there were any? The quiet cove seems woefully small, poorly located, and inconvenient when wanting to grab a snack from the walk up options. Is there any kind of dance club like on previous ships? Seems like this is just themed to the max without consideration of wanting to get away from characters in your face.

Thanks Tom! We’re scheduled for a 3 night cruise in September. By the time we hit our 90 day reservation mark, all the adults only dining options and wine tastings were fully booked. This wasn’t terribly surprising, but do you know if it’s still possible to try and book some of these things as soon as we get on the ship? Also, do you know if the Wishes’ spa will do the Rainforest Spa daily passes? I don’t see any reference to it on the website.

I would like to know how you feel about crowding and waits once you go on a full regular cruise since the Wish has higher capacity. We sailed the Dream and the pools and deck parties were unpleasantly crowded for our tastes, esp on days at sea. Also curious how they will manage Cabana reservations with so many more concierge guests.

How are the staterooms on the other ships inferior to the staterooms on the Wish?

Very informative post. Can’t wait for the disappointments post. I think I have adjusted my expectations but interested to see what your experience was. The Maiden will be our 29th DCL cruise most being on the Magic, we prefer the classic ship. The two things I haven’t found clearly explained is other than the four small closet shelves and hanging area of the closet, where do you store clothes. Are there any drawers for undergarments, etc? Also, is the market a buffet of do they plate for you? The breakfast review I saw showed menus with plated meals to pick from. I prefer buffet, especially for breakfast, which is why we choose not to eat breakfast in the restaurants.

We initially booked the Wish for the end of October. Only our second ever cruise and frost for the kids (11 and 7). The four nights being the only option, we planned on doing 3 extra nights at WDW. But a few months ago, we chose to pass on getting to be some of the first people to enjoy the new ship and instead booked a 7 nighter on the Fantasy. We were hoping being able to enjoy a full week cruise would outweigh what could’ve been a much better experience on a newly imagined ship. Classic FOMO. I’ve been looking forward to your impressions, so far I’m thinking we made a good choice. Not that the fantasy is better. But the we aren’t missing out too badly by missing the Wish. I look forward to your next report when you get more full experience.

You absolutely did. The Fantasy is a fantastic ship and there’s no way the Wish could justify its price right now over one of the best cruise ships in the world. Newer cruise ships always command a premium.

My recommendation would be to eat Palo brunch (the Italian adult restaurant) once, chill at Satellite Falls pool, go to all of the adult shows at the Tube (some can be outstanding), and encourage the kids to go to the Oceaneer Club for the younger ones, 11-14 to the Edge, and 14-17 for Vibe. They’ll love it, especially if they’re social and like to make friends and for the older ones run around the ship hanging out. Cabana’s has an awesome breakfast buffet. Also, remember you can order unlimited menu items at all the restaurants! Appetizers are typically better than the entrees, so I’ve even ordered multiple as an entree before. The coffee is weak on the ship, but the Cove Bar on the pool deck has great coffee and you can get a coffee pass which makes it cheaper as it’s ‘premium’ coffee. Definitely participate in the adult activities like Silent DJ as well. Just let loose and have fun! Don’t feel obligated to get off at every port either. The ship, unlike say Carnival, is the attraction.

We are scheduled on a Wish cruise at the end of January, with our 4 year old granddaughter. When you are talking about space in the different areas, I was wondering about the pools. I have watched a lot of the videos posted (and it may look different when you are actually there)-but the pools looked small and crowded and chopped up into a series of shallow pools. I had heard that they were designed to be covered up when an event is happening on deck. Does the pool deck feel scrunched in? Also, can you describe in more detail what the Festival of Foods area is, and why it is needed in addition to Marceline market?

Thank you for the early info! I love your site and recommend it to anyone going to anything Disney! We are DVC members who started our love of Disney with our honeymoon at Disney World 25 years ago. We will be there in September for our actual Anniversary (Food & Wine here we come and we are doing our first split stay, Bay Lake and Beach Club) , but we have also booked a vow renewal on The Wish in January 2023. They weren’t sure of venue options when we booked, but thought The Rose and Bayou would be options in addition to the atrium. We were leaning towards The Rose, but Bayou is looking like a very viable option as well. There will be about 40 of us, any thoughts?

Such a good teaser for the full review! Curious to see if some of my guesses are correct. I haven’t been obviously but have been watching some videos. I suspect the Bayou bar will be one of your “hidden gem” locations—I love the look and it gets bonus points for being out in the open as I feel like on prior ships the seclusion of the bars made me loathe to visit them with my kids with me (they love getting shirley temples as an afternoon treat, while mom and dad get a cocktail). I haven’t seen anyone talk about Luna even though that seemed like one of the more promising additions—was it not open for your preview cruise? The aquamouse, hyperspace lounge and adult infinity pool all seem to be shadows of their potential, which is a shame. But on the other hand, I really think I will like the Spa rainforest room, large balcony (aka “bump out”) rooms, multiple family pools (so if one closes due to an accident, it’s not a big deal), and all those new quick service dining locations. P.S. Don’t feel weird about visiting the kids clubs during open houses to play on the simulators—a lot of adults do!

I actually spent more time in Luna than anywhere else on the ship–it hosted all of the behind the scenes panels. Definitely has potential as a venue, but there’s absolutely nothing special about its design and the panels certainly didn’t put the tech that might exist in that space to the test. Strikes me as fairly utilitarian.

I wish you had an adult cruise without kids.

I have been on 9 DCL cruises and not once have felt overwhelmed by children. DCL does a good job of separating the adults.

Disney and kids are like a glove is to fingers. If kids somehow mess up the Disney experience then maybe you are forgetting what Disney is truly about. There is nothing I like to see more than the kids reacting to everything Disney even though mine is an adult.

Not sure what happened to my last post but kids are to Disney what fingers are to a glove. They kinda go together and something would be lacking if kids were not a part of the landscape during a Disney experience.

Would love to see photos of the bar menus! I’m looking for information about what mocktails might be available, and many of the menus I’ve seen online actually cut off that part as if it can’t be of any interest to anyone!

I don’t have those, sorry–but I do know there was an emphasis made on crafting unique “zero proof cocktails” for the Disney Wish. (That’s the specific term they used since “mocktails” is more juvenile according to the culinary team. I’m guessing “zero proof cocktails” also somehow justifies higher price points than what people would pay for mocktails! 😉 )

We are sailing on the Wish in September and I’m really looking forward to it, though we ended up adding it to the front end of an already scheduled trip. So we will sail on the Wish and then after a weekend in Miami will sail on the Dream. That gets all the ships ticked for us, and saves us airfare by doing another cruise at a later date. However, it’ll be interesting to see how the two ships feel back to back. I’m going in with a very open mind, except when it comes to the Aqua Mouse, which I have very low expectations for. I saw a POV of the “attraction” on Youtube & was heartily disappointed. My initial reaction was “LAME” and felt the same way on a second viewing a few days later. Maybe it’ll be better in person, but… Did you experience it? Thoughts? Is it complete? There were a bunch of what I presumed were speakers between the screens (which featured that new style of animation which I despise!), but maybe they were screens that were missing displays? It certainly was underwhelming for something touted as the first Disney attraction at sea. Aqua Duck & Dunk are much more engaging right off the bat. The Aqua Mouse was just a slow conveyor belt crawling along until the water ride started. Or am I missing something?

C’mon now, don’t make me spoil the upcoming “Biggest Disappointments of the Disney Wish” post!

We are booked on the wish for the Christmas cruise start of December (after 2 weeks in Orlando!). It will be our first time on a cruise ship so we felt 3 nights would be a good sampler to if we like it.

I’m curious Tom if the hidden gems you mention, we much rather those than the main ones as prefer quieter ambiance.

How was the food? Fine dining is not something we are used to but rather excited about along with usual ‘park’ fare?

I can’t wait to read more. We recently took and Royal Caribbean cruise for the first time, after sailing DCL on several prior trips, I know it’s even more extreme, but we missed the classic, stylized nature of DCL, despite many new and fun amenities on RC.

This was very informative, thank you! We’ll be sailing on the Wish in September. I’ve previously sailed on both the Wonder and Dream. The Wonder was much easier to navigate and had more “connecting” decks and walkways than the Dream. We caught ourselves having to go up and down to navigate around certain things on the Dream. Is the Wish similar to the Dream in this aspect?

I’d say it’s slightly worse. Accessing some areas (like Cove Cafe or the specialty dining area) requires a convoluted approach. Even the levels around the atrium have occasionally-confusing orientations. On the plus side, that can add a sense of intimacy.

Our first DCL ship will be the Wish following Thanksgiving. We’re already a bit skeptical of the sizing of popular areas. The Star Wars bar has had super long waits to get into it from what we’ve been hearing. We’re also doing star cruise next month which means the Star Wars bar on the wish more than likely will be a let down anyways lol. We haven’t got our window for buying extras and excursions but lol forward to seeing what is offered there. Can’t wait to see your actual paid for cruise impressions. I’m sure this vessel is impressive though regardless.

The Star Wars bar started doing reservations after the first day, and I’d expect that to continue with actual guest sayings. Nevertheless, your suspicions about going from the Galactic Starcruiser to Hyperspace Lounge are pretty much on point.

I've traveled on all 5 Disney cruise ships. I have 2 clear favorites, and there's only one I'm not in a hurry to book again.

• My family and I have been on nine Disney cruises and all five ships.

I've been on nine Disney cruises with my husband and two teenage sons. Although we've sailed on other cruise lines like Carnival, Celebrity, MSC, and Royal Caribbean , Disney Cruise Line is always our top pick.

Stellar service, subtle theming, top-notch kids and teen programs, and a dreamy private island in the Bahamas are some of the reasons we keep returning.

So far, we've been on all five Disney Cruise Line ships — Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Wish. However, we'll soon have more ships to explore, with Disney Treasure planning to set sail in December and Disney Destiny set to embark on its maiden voyage in 2025 .

Out of the five ships we've been on, two stand out as favorites, and there's only one I'm not in a hurry to travel on again.

My favorite ships are Disney Wonder and Disney Magic

Disney Wonder and Disney Magic are my favorite ships within Disney Cruise Line.

They have nearly identical deck layouts and are the fleet's two smallest ships. Although some may see this as a negative, I prefer the smaller, more intimate size and the ease of getting around the ships.

Disney Wonder also has my favorite Disney Cruise Line restaurant, Tiana's Place. It offers a delicious, Cajun-inspired menu and a fun "The Princess and the Frog" theme. There's even a lively floor show with jazz music.

I love Disney Magic , too, but I thought it was more dated and in need of an update than Disney Wonder.

I also didn't love the Magic's Rapunzel-themed restaurant nearly as much as I loved Tiana's Place.

The food at Rapunzel's Royal Table was just so-so, but the entertainment and theming more than made up for it. The in-person appearance of Rapunzel and Flynn, capped by a lantern processional to the tune of "I See the Light," was glorious.

The Wish is unarguably beautiful — everything is sparkling new, and the atrium is decked out with a life-sized Cinderella sculpture. However, I thought the layout was a little clunky.

I may have felt this way because many of Disney's ships are laid out very similarly, and after nine cruises, we're pros at finding our way around.

Disney Wonder and Disney Magic have nearly identical deck layouts, as do Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. Disney Wish, however, is laid out much differently.

Unlike the other Disney cruise ships we've been on, Disney Wish doesn't have a specific area for adults-only lounges.

Instead, the adults-only bars and lounges, which are off-limits to kids after 7 p.m., are scattered throughout the ship. This means the Wish doesn't have that true kid-free haven that the other ships have.

I also found that many parts of the ship felt crowded, from the dining rooms to the pools.

For all that criticism, my family and I enjoyed sailing on Disney Wish . But now that we've crossed it off our list, we won't be in any hurry to jump on board again unless the route is one we can't pass up.

That is why the recent fire was so devastating to guests.

Guests who were on the Disney Wish a few days ago would have had a very different Castaway Cay visit. One guest took to Reddit to share that the island had to temporarily shut down, “Just got off the Wish. When we were at Castaway Cay someone threw a lit cigar into the brush and started a fire that shut down the power on the island temporarily. Crew handled it fantastically.”

Another guest who was on the ship replied, “Just got off as well. We were all loaded on the tram to head back to the ship and got stuck sitting there for about a half hour. No one told us what happened but we saw some crew in fire gear once everything was resolved. Fortunately it seems like they were able to contain it.”

A lot of the conversation revolved around Disney fans wanting the ships to ban smoking all together: “It’s become time for DCL to ban smoking on the island and to work on phasing it out on the ships.”

“Tired of walking through clouds of smoke to get to the beach, to get to food, to just walk around. Hopefully we see more islands going to way of Mexico and banning it outright also making it easier for DCL to implement.”

It appears that the fire began right by the dock of the island, which stopped guests from coming both on and off the ship until the fire was contained and extinguished.

This is not the only issue that DCL has hit as of late. The Disney Dream took a pit stop in the middle of the Atlantic recently as the ship attempted to assist in what appeared to be an urgent emergency.

Earlier this year, we reported that Disney conducted a successful rescue mission on New Year’s Eve , once again stopping their boat to provide aid.

These hiccups also occur on other cruise lines, such as Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Princess Cruise Line, and others.

Moving forward, Disney Cruise Line (DCL) is thrilled to announce the upcoming opening of Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, Bahamas, on June 10, 2024. I s a voyage on a Disney Cruise Line ship on your bucket list? You'll find a growing number of options when it comes time to pick an itinerary.

While the cruising arm of Disney has long focused mostly on voyages to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, with year-round sailings to those destinations out of Florida, it also now offers a relatively wide range of seasonal sailings to Alaska, the Mexican Riviera, Bermuda, Europe and Canada.

The family-friendly cruise brand, notably, is expanding its footprint worldwide as it adds four new vessels in quick succession.

Already, the first of those ships, the 2,508-passenger Disney Wish , has arrived, boosting the size of the Disney fleet from four ships to five and allowing for more departures to the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe.

Two more sister vessels to Disney Wish are due to begin sailing in 2024 and 2025, respectively, allowing for further expansion in Disney cruise itineraries. In addition, the line has yet another new vessel coming in 2025 that isn't related to the other three. Called Disney Adventure, it's a one-off vessel originally designed for an Asian line , and it'll sail in Asia (perhaps catering mostly to Asian travelers; Disney has been mum so far on the target audience for it).

All these new ships arriving in quick succession will likely mean not just more departures to destinations where Disney Cruise Line is established but also sailings in new regions. For example, Disney has never before offered Asia sailings.

Here are our picks for the five best Disney cruise destinations you can visit with your family.

Caribbean and Bahamas

Disney Cruise Line's top destination has always been the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Since its founding more than two decades ago, the brand has based the bulk of its fleet in Florida to offer sailings to the islands. Port Canaveral, which is just an hour away from Disney's Orlando-area theme parks, has always been its biggest hub.

The line is particularly known for three- and four-night cruises out of Port Canaveral to Castaway Cay and Nassau in the Bahamas. These short getaways let families get a taste of Disney cruising that some Disney fans pair with a stay at Disney World.

The cruise line also regularly offers seven-night sailings out of Port Canaveral that visit Caribbean islands like St. Thomas and Tortola.

In recent years, Disney has also built up its Caribbean and Bahamas cruise offerings from other ports in Florida — initially Miami and, more recently, Fort Lauderdale. The ships the line has based in these ports typically offer four- and five-night sailings to Castaway Cay and one other port, such as Cozumel or Grand Cayman.

In addition, Disney is offering a growing number of Caribbean sailings out of Galveston, Texas, and New Orleans.

For 2024, the line will have four of its five ships — Disney Wish, Disney Dream, Disney Magic and Disney Fantasy — sailing to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of one of the above ports, with their home bases often shifting between them.

Disney Wish, which is Disney's newest ship, will be based in Port Canaveral year-round to operate the line's classic three- and four-night sailings to the Bahamas. These voyages are designed to be paired with a visit to nearby Disney World for a longer Disney vacation.

Disney Fantasy will also sail out of Port Canaveral to the Bahamas and Caribbean year-round, offering longer voyages.

Disney Dream will spend the start and the end of the year sailing short trips to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale, with a stint in the middle of the year (from May to October) sailing in Europe.

Disney Magic will take Disney Dream's place sailing short trips to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale from May to October. During the early and late months of the year, it'll sail out of Galveston.

Come 2025, Disney will have four ships — Disney Fantasy, Disney Wish, Disney Dream and Disney Magic — sailing three- to five-night getaways from Florida to the line's Bahamian destinations, including its new private beach destination Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point and its long-open private island Disney Castaway Cay. Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish will operate the trips from Port Canaveral, while Disney Dream and Disney Magic will sail from Fort Lauderdale.

Before taking up residence in Florida in April 2025, Disney Magic will also offer three months' worth of sailings out of Galveston, Texas, to Progreso and Cozumel in Mexico and Grand Cayman.

All of the 2025 sailings are already open for bookings.

Disney has cut back on voyages out of San Diego for 2024, after increasing its San Diego departures sharply in 2023. But it still offers several trips to Mexico out of the city on Disney Wonder.

For 2024, the 1,754-passenger vessel will offer a mix of three- to seven-night sailings to Mexico during March and April. Shorter three- and four-night sailings typically feature calls at Ensenada, Mexico, and California's Catalina Island. Seven-night sailings include calls at Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.

The big factor driving Disney's cutbacks on sailings out of San Diego in 2024 is its new focus on voyages out of Australian ports. Disney Wonder will spend much of January and February sailing out of Australian ports and then return to the region in October for another season of Australia trips.

Disney offers a wide variety of itineraries in Europe every summer, from Mediterranean voyages out of Barcelona and Civitavecchia, Italy (the port for Rome), to Northern Europe sailings out of Southampton, England.

Ranging from seven to 11 nights, Disney's Europe voyages each year typically take place on a single ship that sails from multiple home ports throughout the season. For 2024, that ship will be the 2,500-passenger Disney Dream. The line has yet to announce which of its ships will go to Europe in 2025.

Typical for the shorter itineraries the line offers in Europe are seven-night sailings out of Civitavecchia to the Greek Islands. These sailings stop in Mykonos, Santorini and Crete in Greece, as well as Naples, Italy.

A longer, 11-night itinerary starting in Civitavecchia and ending in Barcelona includes calls at Piraeus (the port for Athens), Santorini and Mykonos in Greece; Messina (on the island of Sicily), Naples and Livorno in Italy; and Toulon, France.

Among Northern Europe itineraries, Disney offers focused, weeklong sailings to Norway with calls at the Norwegian ports of Alesund, Nordfjordeid, Eidfjord and Stavanger.

Disney does not have a large presence in Alaska. The line sends just one ship to Alaska each year. Family-friendly cruise rivals Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line, by contrast, each send three ships to Alaska each year, and Norwegian Cruise Line sends five vessels to the destination.

Still, Disney fans won't feel like they're missing out. The one vessel Disney sends to Alaska each year, the 1,754-passenger Disney Wonder, stays for nearly the entire summer season, from late June to mid-September and offers a distinctly Disney take on The Last Frontier.

Always beginning and ending in Vancouver, British Columbia, and lasting seven nights, Disney's Alaska sailings typically include stops at three of these four Alaska ports: Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan and Icy Strait Point (which three vary by departure date). Itineraries also include a visit to Stikine Icecap, which is south of Juneau.

These are fairly typical ports for an Alaska cruise. But the (extra-charge) activities that Disney has organized for the ports aren't always the same as what other lines offer.

As one might expect for Disney, the line has crafted some of its shore excursions in Alaska ports with special Disney touches, such as Disney character appearances at the Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp & Salmon Bake tour in Ketchikan. (Having done this one myself, I will say, for the record, that it's a little hokey; but it does get you a Disney character fix if that's your aim.)

Another shore excursion with a Disney touch is the outdoor Family Scavenger Hunt at Icy Strait Point, where participants join a local guide on a hunt for items such as clam shells and native plants, as well as a "special surprise" with a Disney theme.

Unlike many lines, Disney does not offer one-way sailings to Alaska from Vancouver or Seattle that can be paired with add-on land tours to create an extended sea-and-land Alaska vacation — something known as a "cruisetour." If that's what you're looking for, and you want to stick with a family-friendly line, you might want to consider the one-way cruisetour offerings from Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line.

Disney typically offers at least one and sometimes several cruises to Bermuda each fall, ranging from quick, five-night trips to longer, eight-night sailings.

For the year just ending (2023), the line offered four such sailings, and it's offered even more than that in certain years. Alas, for the coming year (2024), Disney currently does not have a single Bermuda sailing scheduled — a bit of an anomaly.

That said, we would expect Disney to bring back its Bermuda sailings for 2025 or 2026. It's been such a mainstay of the brand.

Bottom line

Family-friend Disney Cruise Line is a relatively small cruise brand, with just five ships (one of its biggest rivals in the family cruise market, Royal Caribbean, has 26 vessels). But that doesn't mean its itinerary choices are limited. The line offers regular sailings to the Caribbean and Bahamas, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Bermuda and Europe.
