Watch the STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS Opening Credits!

Connect with trekcore.

We’re just days away from the May 5 premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,Ā  and to whet your appetite for the new series, Paramount+ has revealed the prequel show’s new opening credits sequence!

Series lead Anson Mount performs the legendary Star Trek narration, making this the first time the “Space: the final frontier…” monologue has been used in the television landscape since the 2005 Star Trek: Enterprise series finale. (The so-called “captain’s oath” was utilized, of course, in the closing moments of each Kelvin Timeline film.)

Following theĀ starship’s start-up sequence, the opening credits follow theĀ  USS Enterprise as it warps through a variety of interstellar locations — reminiscent ofĀ  Star Trek: Voyager’s exploratory-style title sequence.

In addition to the gorgeous visuals, Jeff Russo’s new Strange New Worlds title theme is an modern spin on Alexander Courage’s classic Star Trek tune, with a pounding percussion track underscoring the adventurous nature of the series. (Russo’s musical contribution is limited to the Strange New Worlds theme, as Star Trek: Prodigy composer Nami Melumad has command of the series’ episodic score. )

Speaking to TrekCore and some other members of the press in mid-April, Anson Mount shared his excitement about recording the iconic Star TrekĀ  narration for theĀ  Strange New WorldsĀ  credits.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GojKnB1uQwM

I knew I wanted to do that speech! I knew it like I knew I wanted to eat — so I was very grateful when [showrunners Henry Alonso Myers and Akiva Goldsman] told me I would be doing it. We kind of did it on the fly, on set, as a temp track for the editing process, but I really wanted to make sure I got it right. So they sent a bunch of equipment to my place in Connecticut to set up basically a sound studio in my basement. I was there recording while our tech guy was in New York and our post-production crew was in Los Angeles, all networked. We’re slogging this out, doing many, many takes: combining a sentence from this take, a sentence from that take, making sure everything is sounding the way we want, doing several versions. This is back in October, and there was a moment when I said, “Guys, can we just take a moment here and acknowledge the fact that we are going to remember this moment for the rest of our lives?” I mean, it is a very, very select group of people who have the privilege to work on this speech. Everyone was like, “Yeah, yeah, that’s really cool!” There was a pause, and I said, “Of course… you realize right now William Shatner is in orbit.”Ā  It was also a good lesson for me: don’t ever try to out-do Shatner!

Composer Jeff Russo also talks about the theme song in the below video released today on the Paramount+ YouTube channel, which seems to be a mash-up of content from the April 28 and May 5 episodes of The Ready Room after-show.

What do you think of the newĀ  Star Trek: Strange New Worlds opening credits? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

‘star trek: strange new worlds’ | official intro.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds makes its big debut on Paramount+ on May 5. Here’s the official intro to the show, and it’s everything.

Perhaps the greatest honor of my career to date was getting to utter these words: ā€œSpace, the final frontierā€¦ā€ I could not be more proud to be a part of the @StarTrekOnPPlus team and I could not be more grateful to the Trek community. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. pic.twitter.com/NgMvUC9nza — Anson Mount (@ansonmount) April 29, 2022

A prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, the show will follow the crew of the USS Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike.

We got chills listening to the voiceover. Can you imagine how Anson Mount, a life-long Star Trek fan himself, felt reading those lines into the microphone?

Goosebumps.

S trange New Worlds Ā follows the adventures of Captain Christopher Pike, Number One (Rebecca Romijn), Spock (Ethan Peck), who weā€™ve met onĀ  Discovery , and the rest of their crew: Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura; Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel; Babs Olusanmokun as Doctor Mā€™Benga; Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas; Bruce Horak as Hemmer; and Christina Chong as Laā€™an Noonien-Singh. When the show gets to itsĀ  second season , it will also feature Paul Wesley ( The Vampire Diaries ) as James T. Kirk.Ā

We’ll just let you enjoy this amazing intro. If you’re like us, you’re going to want to watch this a few times.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds intro includes an homage to the original series

Star trek: strange new worlds opening credits feature an iconic voiceover narration.

Paramount+ has released the opening credits for the highly anticipated Star Trek Strange New Worlds .

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds intro

Dropped on Twitter on April 29th, the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds intro features a nostalgic callback to Star Trek: The Original Series .

Like the opening credits for Star Trek: The Original Series , the intro for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds starts with the following voiceover narration: ā€œSpace, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.ā€ The only difference is that the updated version uses the phrase ā€œno oneā€ instead of the originalā€™s ā€œno man.ā€

The original narration was voiced by William Shatner ā€™s James T. Kirk, while the new one was delivered by Anson Mount ā€™s Christopher Pike. Mount shared the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds intro on Twitter and revealed what it meant to him to record the iconic narration.

Star Trek Original Series Intro (HQ)

ā€œPerhaps the greatest honor of my career to date was getting to utter these words: ā€˜Space, the final frontierā€¦ā€™ā€ Mount tweeted . ā€œI could not be more proud to be a part of the @StarTrekOnPPlus team and I could not be more grateful to the Trek community. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU.ā€

In addition to the iconic narration, the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds intro also gives fans a closer look at the exterior of the USS Enterprise as it soars through space, past asteroid belts, and clouds of interstellar dust while searching for the titular strange new worlds.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds synopsis

A spinoff from Star Trek: Discovery and a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series , Star Trek: Strange New Worlds follows Captain Pike (Mount), First Officer Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn), Science Officer Spock (Ethan Peck), and the rest of the USS Enterprise crew as they explore new worlds throughout the galaxy during the late 2250s.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds characters

Aside from the abovementioned trio who all appeared in Star Trek: Discovery season 2 in 2019, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will also feature new versions of some of the classic 1960s Star Trek characters, including Dr. Mā€™Benga (Babs Olusanmokun), Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush), Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), as well as James T. Kirk, who will be played by Paul Wesley in the already confirmed season 2 off the series.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will also introduce all-new Enterprise crewmembers, such as Hemmer (Bruce Horak), Laā€™an Noonein-Singh (Christina Chong), and Lt. Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia)

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds release date

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will debut exclusively on Paramount+ in the United States, Latin America, Australia, and the Nordics on May 5th.

Did you know

  • Trivia Bruce Horak , the actor who plays Hemmer, is legally blind, just like his character's species, the Aenar, who are also blind.
  • Goofs There are some rank insignia mistakes. Number One is introduced as "Lieutenant Commander Una Chin-Riley" yet she is wearing the rank insignia of a full commander: two full stripes. A Lieutenant Commander's rank insignia is a full stripe under a thin stripe (in TOS it is a full stripe and a staggered stripe). It is not uncommon for a ship's first officer to be a Lt. Commander if they have not been in the position long. Spock at this point is a Lieutenant but he is wearing Lieutenant Commander's stripes; a Lieutenant just has one stripe. La'an is the ship's chief of security and the ship's second officer. She is also wearing Lt. Commander stripes but is addressed as a Lieutenant, but it would make more sense for her to be a Lieutenant Commander. Either way both of their rank insignia are not matching the rank they are addressed by. Ortegas is addressed as a Lieutenant but is wearing Lieutenant Commander's strips. A Lieutenant Commander may be addressed as a Commander or Lieutenant Commander but never as just a Lieutenant, so either her rank insignia or the manner she is addressed by the rest of the crew is in error.

Everything We Know So Far About STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS!

Posted: June 20, 2024 | Last updated: June 20, 2024

Captain Christopher Pike, Spock and Number One have been exploring the cosmos even longer than Captain James T Kirk. Now Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set to continue their story. The trio originally appeared in unaired Star Trek pilot ā€˜The Cageā€™, and went on to play key roles in Star Trek: Discoveryā€™s second season. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be set on board the legendary USS Enterprise, around a decade before Kirk takes command. And we now know that the showā€™s core trio will be joined by more familiar faces from the 1960s, including Nurse Chapel, Dr M'Benga and ā€“ most excitingly of all ā€“ the legendary Uhura, who'll be a cadet on the Enterprise in this prequel to the original series.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 - Everything We Know

Strange new worlds does 3 important things that bring back classic star trek, the acolyte's villain may not be a sith lord... but i think i've figured out what he really is.

  • Start your Star Trek journey with Strange New Worlds - the perfect entry point for new fans seeking timeless adventures.
  • Embrace the iconic characters of Star Trek with the youthful, prequel voyages of the Starship Enterprise.
  • Expect innovation and versatility in each episode of Strange New Worlds, delivering surprises and richly rewarding stories.

I tell everyone to watch Star Trek and to start with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds . The Star Trek franchise is wonderfully expansive and immersive, with over 900 hours of television and 13 feature films - but that is also an incredibly daunting amount of content for a layman who may be interested in Star Trek but doesn't know where to start or is intimidated by the commitment of spending years learning Star Trek . While any Star Trek TV series or movie can be a gateway to the franchise, for someone totally new who wants to sample what Star Trek is all about, the best starting point is Strange New Worlds .

Sure, starting at the beginning, Star Trek: The Original Series, or Star Trek: The Next Generation , would work, too. But both series carry drawbacks, as well. The original Star Trek is almost 60 years old; at its best, TOS retains its enduring charm and magic, but it's also dated to modern sensibilities. Like TOS, Star Trek: The Next Generation features some of the greatest episodes of Star Trek ever produced, but starting from the beginning means wading through the problematic TNG season 1. In 2009, J.J. Abrams' Star Trek was a perfect gateway, and millions sampled Star Trek for the first time because of the 'one with Chris Pine'. Today, however, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is an even better, more inviting entry point than Abrams' alternate timeline movie that conveys the best aspects of Star Trek .

For children and young people, the animated series Star Trek: Prodigy is designed as an ideal entry point to Star Trek that can also be enjoyed by all audiences.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 ended with an epic cliffhanger and here's everything known about when it will be resolved in season 3.

Strange New Worlds Features Star Trek's Most Iconic Characters & Starship

But there's also plenty to discover about the starship enterprise.

After six decades in pop culture, almost everyone has heard of Captain Kirk, Spock, and the Starship Enterprise. They're all in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - with a cool twist. As a prequel, Strange New Worlds has Spock (Ethan Peck), Kirk (Paul Wesley), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Scotty (Martin Quinn), Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush), impeccably cast in the flower of their youth. And, unlike J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movies , these are not alternate timeline Star Trek characters. These are the real deal Star Trek icons who will mature into the Captain Kirk played by William Shatner, Spock played by Leonard Nimoy, Uhura played by Nichelle Nichols, etc. And they fly the same Starship Enterprise, which looks sleeker and cooler than ever.

Strange New Worlds is colorful, daring, reassuring, and embodies the best classic elements of Star Trek as if it's The Original Series being made for audiences today.

However, there's so much new to discover about Strange New Worlds , like Star Trek 's original skipper, Captain Pike, played with equal amounts of heart and authority by Anson Mount. Rebecca Romijn is a stunning Number One, the Enterprise's unshakable First Officer. New characters like Christina Chong's Lt. La'an Noonien-Singh and Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas are captivating. Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M'Benga redefines what a Star Trek doctor can be, and the Enterprise's two Chief Engineers, Lt. Hemmer (Bruce Horak) and Commander Pelia (Carol Kane) are delightful surprises. Strange New Worlds is colorful, daring, reassuring, and embodies the best classic elements of Star Trek as if it's The Original Series being made for audiences today.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds seasons are 10 episodes, with 2 seasons streaming on Paramount+, season 3 on the way, and season 4 already greenlit.

Strange New Worlds Never Stops Being Innovative Star Trek

Being episodic lets strange new worlds take big swings that work wonderfully.

Star Trek: Discovery brought Star Trek into today's serialized streaming era, but Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is episodic, like the classic Star Trek of yore, and this versatility is one of its greatest strengths. Each episode of Strange New Worlds is a complete story with character arcs that continue throughout the series . Strange New Worlds ' characters grow and evolve as the show deftly changes genres with each episode. A heart-stopping and deadly encounter with the Gorn will give way to a Vulcan comedy of manners, and a tragically romantic time travel adventure will then shift into Star Trek 's first-ever musical episode. Strange New Worlds is a cornucopia with no limits.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is designed to be inviting to Star Trek fans and non-fans alike.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds can be any type of show and is proven capable of delivering any type of story, which makes the series constantly surprising and richly rewarding. Strange New Worlds ' talented cast is adept at making every weird and wonderful encounter aboard the Starship Enterprise believable and real. The bizarre aspects of Star Trek feel at home on Strange New Worlds , and Star Trek 's fundamentals of friendship, romance, and the daring to boldly explore what's possible are present in every character and in every episode. Star Trek is a universe of infinite diversity in infinite combinations, and, if there's someone who needs to know where to start, the best gateway to everything possible in Star Trek today is to board the Starship Enterprise with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds .
