Instead, we should submit our plans and desires to God and allow Him to guide our paths. When we put our trust in Him, He will lead us in the right direction and make our paths straight.

Isaiah 43:19

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

In this verse, God assures us that He is always doing new things in our lives. As we embark on a new journey, we can trust that He is already at work, making a way where there seems to be no way. Even in the most challenging and barren situations, God can bring forth streams of blessings and opportunities.

Philippians 3:13-14

“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Starting a new journey requires us to let go of the past and focus on what lies ahead. Just as the Apostle Paul emphasizes, we should not dwell on our past mistakes, setbacks, or achievements. Instead, we should press on towards the goal that God has set for us. Our eyes should be fixed on Jesus, and we should strive to fulfill the calling He has placed on our lives.

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

When starting a new journey, it is reassuring to know that God has plans for our lives. He desires to bring prosperity, hope, and a bright future. Even when we are uncertain about what lies ahead, we can trust that God’s plans are good, and He will guide us every step of the way.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”

In every new journey, God promises to instruct and teach us in the right way to go. He offers His divine counsel with a loving watchful eye upon us. When we seek His guidance and rely on Him, He will lead us along the path He has prepared for us, protecting us from harm and leading us towards success.

Psalm 37:23

“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him.”

As we delight in the Lord and commit our ways to Him, He takes delight in guiding our steps. When we trust in Him wholeheartedly, He ensures that our steps are firm and secure. He will never let us stumble or fall if we continue to seek Him and follow His leading on our new journey.

Psalm 119:105

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

In the midst of a new journey, God’s word serves as a lamp to guide our steps and a light to illuminate our path. His teachings and principles act as a compass, showing us the right way to go. When we meditate on His word and allow it to shape our decisions, we can walk confidently in His divine guidance.

Romans 12:2

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Starting a new journey often requires a change in mindset. Instead of conforming to worldly standards and expectations, we are called to be transformed by renewing our minds according to God’s truth. When our minds are aligned with His will, we can discern His good, pleasing, and perfect plans for our lives.

Deuteronomy 31:8

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

As we embark on a new journey, we can find solace in knowing that the Lord goes before us. He promises to be our constant companion, never leaving us or forsaking us. In times of uncertainty or fear, we can take courage and trust that God is with us, guiding and protecting us every step of the way.

Jeremiah 33:3

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

In our new journey, we are invited to call upon the Lord, seeking His wisdom and guidance. He promises to answer us and reveal things beyond our understanding. Through prayer and communion with God, we can tap into His vast knowledge and receive insights that will lead us towards success and fulfillment.

Matthew 6:33

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

When starting a new journey, our ultimate priority should be seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness. When we prioritize His will and align our desires with His, He promises to provide for our needs. Instead of striving solely for worldly accomplishments, we should strive to live in obedience to God, and He will take care of everything else.

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.”

In our new journey, we can find comfort in knowing that the Lord is our shepherd. He will guide us, protect us, and provide us with everything we need. As long as we remain under His shepherding care, we can rest assured that we will lack nothing and have all that we require to fulfill our purpose.

Galatians 6:9

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Starting a new journey may come with challenges and obstacles. However, we are reminded not to grow weary in doing good. It is essential to persevere and remain steadfast in our commitment to follow God’s path. When we continue to press on, we can be confident that in due time, we will reap a harvest of blessings and fulfilled promises.

Psalm 121:1-2

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

When embarking on a new journey, we may encounter daunting challenges ahead. In those moments, we can lift our eyes to the Lord, recognizing that our help comes from Him alone. As the creator of heaven and earth, He is more than capable of guiding us and providing all the assistance we need on our journey.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

Starting a new journey often requires wisdom, and God encourages us to ask Him for it. He promises to give generously and without finding fault when we seek His wisdom. By acknowledging our dependence on God’s guidance and seeking His wisdom, we can navigate our new journey with confidence and make wise decisions along the way.

1 Peter 5:7

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

As we embark on a new journey, anxiety and worry may try to creep into our minds. However, we are reminded to cast all our burdens and worries on the Lord because He cares for us deeply. Letting go of anxiety and entrusting our concerns to Him allows us to move forward with peace and confidence in His loving care.

Psalm 16:11

“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

In our new journey, we can trust that God will make known to us the path of life. He will guide us towards the fulfillment of our purpose, and in His presence, we will experience true joy and eternal pleasures. As we seek and follow Him, we can rest assured that our journey will be filled with meaningful experiences and divine blessings.

Matthew 28:20

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

When stepping into a new journey, Jesus promises us His constant presence. He affirms that He will be with us always, even until the end of the age. We can take comfort and draw strength from the assurance that we are never alone. With Jesus by our side, we can face anything that this new journey holds.

2 Corinthians 5:17

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

When we surrender our lives to Christ, we become new creations. Starting a new journey allows us to leave behind the old and embrace the new. The old habits, sin, and burdens no longer define us. Instead, we can walk in the freedom and grace of being made new in Christ, ready to embark on an exciting journey of growth and transformation.

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

As we begin a new journey, it is vital to find joy and delight in the Lord above all else. When our hearts are aligned with His, He promises to grant us the desires of our hearts. However, this does not mean we will receive everything we want, but rather, our desires will be in alignment with His will, bringing us true joy and fulfillment.

Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

When starting a new journey, we may feel weary and burdened by the weight of the unknown. Jesus invites us to come to Him and find rest for our souls. He calls us to take His yoke upon us, to learn from Him and embrace His gentle and humble nature. In surrendering to Him, we can find true rest and peace, even in the midst of uncertainty.

Proverbs 16:9

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”

Humans often make plans for their journey, but ultimately, it is the Lord who establishes our steps. As we trust in Him and acknowledge His sovereignty, He redirects our paths and leads us on a journey that aligns with His divine plan. Letting go of our own plans and surrendering to His guidance brings us peace and assurance.

Psalm 119:133

“Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.”

In our new journey, we ought to surrender our footsteps to God and ask Him to direct us according to His word. We desire to walk in obedience and alignment with His will. By seeking His guidance and relying on His strength, we can avoid being ruled by sin and walk in paths of righteousness.

Hebrews 13:8

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

Amidst the changes and uncertainties that come with a new journey, we can find comfort in knowing that Jesus Christ remains the same. He is unchanging in His character, love, and faithfulness. Regardless of what we face on our journey, we can trust that He will never leave us, and His promises remain steadfast.

1. In Genesis 11:1-9 , Noah’s descendants migrate from Mount Ararat to Babel:

Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. As people moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there…But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building…[and] the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city…

2. In Genesis 12:1-9 , Abraham trusts God and travels from Ur of the Chaldees to the land of Canaan:

The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you…So Abram went, as the Lord had told him…

3. Once there, Abraham then must leave Canaan and stay for a time in Egypt, as told in Genesis 12:10-20 :

Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe…

4. Rebekah leaves her homeland of Haran to be Isaac’s wife in Canaan in Genesis 24 :

“The Lord , the God of heaven, who brought me out of my father’s household and my native land and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, ‘To your offspring I will give this land’—he will send his angel before you so that you can get a wife for my son from there…”

5. Isaac, like his father, Abraham, commands Jacob not to marry a Canaanite woman, but to return to his family’s people for a wife ( Genesis 28-29 ):

“…May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples. May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land where you now reside as a foreigner, the land God gave to Abraham…”

6. In Genesis 32-35 , Jacob wrestles with God and His promises as he goes from Haran to Bethel:

Then Jacob prayed, “O God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, Lord , you who said to me, ‘Go back to your country and your relatives, and I will make you prosper,’ I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you have shown your servant. I had only my staff when I crossed this Jordan, but now I have become two camps. Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid he will come and attack me, and also the mothers with their children. But you have said, ‘I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.’” … Then God said to Jacob, “Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God,who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.”

7. Jacob’s son Joseph is sold by his brothers from Canaan to Egypt in Genesis 37 :

…when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.

8. God puts Joseph in a position to aid his family when they flee the drought in Canaan to live in Egypt ( Genesis 42-46 ):

Then ten of Joseph’s brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt. … So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

9. By Exodus 2:15 , God’s people are enslaved in Egypt, and Moses flees from Egypt to Midian:

When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where he sat down by a well.

10. From Moses’ return as God’s mediator who leads the Israelites out of Egypt to Joshua’s leadership at Jericho, God leads his people gradually back from from Egypt to Canaan. Abraham’s line has come full circle, and God’s promises are never once forgotten.

11. Famine once again calls God’s people into exile in Ruth 1 . This time, however, God calls Ruth (a Moabite) out of Moab to go back to Bethlehem with those returning there.

In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. So a man from Bethlehem in Judah, together with his wife and two sons, went to live for a while in the country of Moab. The man’s name was Elimelek, his wife’s name was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Kilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem, Judah. And they went to Moab and lived there. … So Naomi returned from Moab accompanied by Ruth the Moabite, her daughter-in-law, arriving in Bethlehem as the barley harvest was beginning.

12. In the days when God’s people were looking for a king, God granted their wish by leading Saul out of Gibeah to Samuel in Ramah ( 1 Samuel 9 ):

…Now the day before Saul came, the Lord had revealed this to Samuel: 16 “About this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him ruler over my people Israel; he will deliver them from the hand of the Philistines. I have looked on my people, for their cry has reached me.”

13. After God rejects Saul as king, Samuel is told to go to Bethlehem to anoint David. ( 1 Samuel 16 ):

“…I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.”

14. When David is anointed king over Judah in 2 Samuel 2:1 , the Lord names the town where he should go:

David asked, “Where shall I go?” “To Hebron,” the Lord answered.

15. Word of the Lord continues to spread throughout the world in the days of King Solomon ( 1 Kings 10 ):

When the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relationship to the Lord , she came to test Solomon with hard questions…

16. Rehoboam is also called to a journey to accept his mantle as king. He travels from Jerusalem to Shechem in 1 Kings 12:1 :

17. Elijah, a prophet of the Lord, flees Jezebel—wife of Ahab and queen of Israel—and goes up to Mount Horeb where God reveals himself ( 1 Kings 19 ):

Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness.

18. in 2 Kings 5 , Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Aram, travels from Syria to Samaria to be healed by the God of Israel:

19. The captives of Judah, exiles in Babylon are allowed to return to Jerusalem when the Lord moves the heart of Cyrus king of Persia in Ezra 1 :

“‘The Lord , the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah. Any of his people among you may go up to Jerusalem in Judah and build the temple of the Lord , the God of Israel, the God who is in Jerusalem, and may their God be with them…'”

20. Even the Romans were unwitting subjects to God’s will when Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world, sending Joseph to Bethlehem where Jesus was to be born ( Luke 2:1-4 ):

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.

21. Like the queen of Sheba visiting Solomon, once again foreign kings are compelled to journey for news of the Hebrew God ( Matthew 2:1-12 ):

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

22. Once the Great Commission has been given, Acts is the account of those earliest missionary journeys. God’s Word is to be spread to all nations and all peoples, and Philip follows this command by going to Samaria in Acts 8:5 .

23. Saul to converted on the road to Damascus where he had traveled from Jerusalem to attack the Jesus movement in Acts 9:

As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

24. In Acts 11:19-26 , Barnabas goes out from Jerusalem to plant a church in Antioch:

Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that broke out when Stephen was killed traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, spreading the word only among Jews.

25. And finally, Paul goes himself to the heart of Jewish persecution in Rome, so that he may spread the Gospel there ( Acts 21:16-28:31 ).

About the Bible Reading Requirements

One of the requirements for a Journey student is to read the Old Testament books of the Bible. We have divided the Old Testament into four fairly equal groupings of books. You will find the list of the year's required books in your Bible Studies.

However, you do need to know how the books fit together to form the Bible's "big picture." For that reason, you will find the summaries listed here in biblical order. You may know your books of the Bible so finding the summary you need won't be difficult. If you don't know the order of the books, match up the number in your Bible Study with the number of the summary.

We have included Bible Reading Checklists at the end of the summaries below so you can keep track of what chapters you have read. If you would like, you can download/print the Bible Reading Checklist and stick it on your mirror or in your Bible to have it handy.

When you have completed the book reading, you will need to sign on the signature line in your Bible Study. You then need to summarize the book in your own words to your leader. (This can include the theme, author, key verse, date and events/characters written about in the book.) Don't just memorize the summary that's here – you'll need to summarize in your own words. Your leader will then need to sign on the signature line next to the book in the Bible study. This will signify that you read and summarized the book.

As Catholics, we believe that Mary is our mother. From the Cross, Jesus entrusted his beloved disciple St. John to Mary, telling him to see her as his own mother (Jn 19:27). Since that moment, all Christians have seen her as our mother.

Yet as often as we invoke her name and call on her motherly aid, we might find it difficult at times to see the real person behind the title.

Our Lady is so often pictured as a shining statue on a pedestal that we might forget she was a real, living, breathing, flesh-and-blood Israelite woman. She walked this earth, laughed, slept, ate, and lived a life that looked fairly ordinary from the outside.

A journey through Scripture

Throughout the history of the Bible, incredible women have played a part in the story of salvation. Steeped in Scripture, the Blessed Mother would have known and pondered the stories of these women, and perhaps recognized parts of their story in her own.

Bible verses Ruto, Gachagua turned to at National Prayer Breakfast

The event, which is the 21st edition, was themed 'Hope'.

President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday attended the National Prayer Breakfast at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

During their addresses, the two leaders based their remarks on Bible verses.

President Ruto spoke about Proverbs 29:18.

It reads: ( Where there is no vision, the people perish: But he that keepeth the law, happy he is - KJV ).

The President said it reminds all that where there is no vision people perish.

He went on to say that the vision that keeps a country together is the fruit of hope.

Ruto also talked about the books of Hebrew Chapter 11 and Isaiah.

"We are told in Hebrews 11 that faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of things we do not see. Similarly, the words of Isaiah that those who hope in the Lord he will renew their strength, that they will run and not grow weary, walk and not faint. This rings so true when we reflect on our journey."

While making his remarks, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua quoted the book of Jeremiah 29:11-14.

It reads: ( "11. For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you. 13. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14. I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.") - NIV

Gachagua talked about how far the country has come economically, noting that it would not have been possible, were it not for prayers and trust in God.
