Use the ones labeled ISO Version CD# Use setup in CD1. Then move movies from each CD into the games main folder for the campaign. Then use the Community Combined Patch its on moddb and the KA forums. Last you need is ka_ddraw_1_30

Works, one of the toughest games to play and win at, you will learn or die, great game, and worth your time trying to figure it out!

Denacity 2023-04-08 -1 point

Can you upload .ISOs instead of the .BIN/.CUE files? It's such a weird format and it's hard to manage (both Windows and Steam OS support .ISO natively). The game doesnt have copy protection that needs this format. Thanks.

bob 2022-02-17 -1 point

so i went to setup.exe to install the game, it said set up actions wasnt responding however the ka.exe file still appeared on my desktop. when i went to play the simulations tho the starfield in the background blurs together like lines. the game is unplayable how were other people able to get it running when we're all dealing with the same files here.

kirk 2022-02-16 -1 point

just to clarify its when i click on setup.exe and the game is trying to perform setup actions that it stops responding. and obviously i cant play the game if i cant install it.

Kirk 2022-02-16 0 point

When i go to open the setup.exe file it starts to "register fonts" but then says its unable to respond. help?

William 2022-01-24 2 points

I down-loaded the patches and the game but I am unable to play the missions as the game asks me to insert CD 2 to start. The simulator and training perform flawlessly. Thoughts??

nuch 2022-01-18 -1 point

I was only able to mount with clone drive. All seemed well except I cannot copy 2 files from disc 5 and 2 files from disc 6. Anyone else have that problem?

Calculon 2021-09-14 1 point

I had to look up what a .icd file was since that keeps popping up as been a virus from what others have said in the comments and this is a description I found; Executable program encrypted with SafeDisc, a disc copy prevention program for Windows games and other applications; typically saved along with an .EXE file which loads the protected ICD file. In order for a SafeDisc-encrypted program to run, the SafeDisc authenticator must verify the SafeDisc signature on the disc. After the disc has been verified the ICD file can be decrypted and run.

Calculon 2021-09-13 0 point

I've downloaded each iso and each one keeps saying; "Can't mount file, the disc image file is corrupted" I've re-downloaded and its the same issue.

admin 2021-09-09 0 point

Current disc images and DVD repack have been personally dumped from the physical copy of the game, if you get a virus alert, it's in the game itself.

Dino 2021-09-08 1 point

Are these ISO's still infected?

sharkboy 2021-08-14 0 point

Hi! I try to download and all dosen't working anymore.

Has anyone fixed this? I would love to play this again. I remember sneaking into the computer lab in high school to play it.

Stibbymicto 2020-12-23 -1 point

Can anyone confirm if the .ISO's are virus free now, since Kirk found one in the downloads back in september?

Jaeger 2020-10-12 1 point

Caractus, did you ever get the game to run full screen? What did you use to play?

Kirk 2020-09-02 1 point

This game worked a few months ago when I downloaded it. It used to be a "Start the game.bat" file now its a bunch of exe shit. I cant get the game to setup properly now, and even if I could there is a virus embedded in one of the files. Please change it back to the way the download was back in May or whatever.

Tenebrarius 2020-08-23 0 point

Hey Admins, sorry to say this but the KA.ICD file seems to have a Ymacco Trojan on it as very time I try to install or play the game, my antivirus picks that up.

Caractus 2019-08-07 2 points

Wow, what a find. I logged hundreds of hours on this game. One of the most underrated space sims in my experience, because of the use of capital ships and the tactics needed owing to their slow speed (the larger ones) and the use of cloaking tech among the various Klingon ships. The simulator mode is terrific. This version works like a charm in Win10 (so far). Never had any luck before with the 7 CD version, or the .iso patched version. Graphics were always glitchy. Play the campaign first -- it allows you to use those wins in the simulator, and you can watch Christopher Plummer chew through the scenery!

Setting and story [ ]

The game occurs just before the first Khitomer Accords as shown in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country . General Chang is Brigadier Kerla's predecessor the Military Advisor to Chancellor Lorak, Gorkon 's predecessor. Chang is also the lead instructor at the Klingon Defense Forces Elite Command Academy. Gorkon is Chang's predecessor as Chief of Staff.

The story starts with an attempted coup against the gravely ill then-Chancellor Lorak. In a heated battle above the Klingon homeworld , General Chang foils this attempt, injuring his eye in the process.

The game is divided into two campaigns: The first is a simulated war against the Federation . Starting with a blitzkrieg, the war moves deeper into Federation space, exploiting the weaknesses inherent in the Federation's greatest strength – diplomacy – which renders the enemy "a brittle unity" in Chang's eyes. The war ends at the heart of the Federation, General Chang uses Humanity's "greatest scientific achievements" ( Project Genesis ) on Earth wiping out all life.

During breaks from the Academy, you are called to spy on treasonous elements with ties to the recent coup attempt against the Chancellor.

Upon graduation (a great honor, given the atrocious failure rate), Chancellor Lorak dies, and the worst civil war in the history of the Empire ensues, with radical ramifications to come...

Background information [ ]

  • Producer and script writer Rafael Hernandez noted the game operated differently than Star Trek: Starfleet Academy , " our ships fly slower, they have mass, inertia, they feel like capital ships. They have a variety of different systems that weren't available for 'Starfleet Academy.' For example, you can batter down an opponent's shields, and send over boarding parties to capture or cripple the other craft. You have the ability to supply power to your ship's systems in ways that you couldn't in 'Starfleet Academy'. " ( Star Trek: The Magazine  Volume 1, Issue 8 , p. 84)
  • Regarding story development, Hernandez explained that their licensing restricted them to Star Trek: The Original Series and the first six films. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country seemed to focus the most on the Klingons, and it was Paramount that suggested a story featuring General Chang. ( Star Trek: The Magazine  Volume 1, Issue 8 , p. 86)

Modern flight simulations and space sims are really very similar. There is, however, one defining difference: flight sims tend to wallow in painstaking detail. While space sims tend towards the simple, with more emphasis on combat. Star Trek: Klingon Academy makes an attempt to bridge the gap between these two styles of games, by melding flight sim-style detailed control systems with gripping space sim-style action.

Klingon Academy is set before the movie Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and features Christopher Plummer (General Chang) and David Warner (Chancellor Gorkon), reprising their roles from the film. For a PC game, the general quality of the acting is extraordinary, although there are some characters that seem a bit overdone. Klingon Academy takes you on a guided tour—as a student—through a Klingon military school.

You are the son of a respected Klingon, and you have enrolled in the Academy hoping to become a warship captain. General Chang is the head instructor, and he will be a constant presence, before and after the Academy. In preparation for war against the Federation, the Academy takes you through a simulated offensive across the neutral zone and into Federation space. The story is the central focus of the game, and it seems that Interplay put a lot of effort into creating it (there are five CDs with nothing but cutscenes on them).

6_1

What makes Klingon Academy special is its scale. Piloting a cruiser with a crew of 400 is an interesting experience, to say the least. In order to control the various aspects of your ship you must make use of the Verbal Order System (VOS), which sits across the bottom of the Heads Up Display (HUD). This is a basic, branching numerical order system. For example, hit 2 to access the helm, 4 for impulse speed, and then 1 for full throttle. While a little complexity is unavoidable, as you need to navigate a host of commands, it can sometimes be a little too complex in the heat of battle. It is all too easy to end up sending the wrong order, with disastrous consequences. Hotkeys for common orders help a lot in this area, at least.

Ship control is extremely detailed. Aside from the standard functions found in most space sims, you also have to worry about security, medical, damage control and overall power management. Every ship has a unit of marines on board for both offensive and defensive purposes. Although it is unlikely you will ever need them for defense against the computer, you can use them to capture enemy ships and save yourself the trouble of slowly chewing your way through their hull. As for medical, both marines and standard crew gain experience with use, and you can view their current status in the medical station. Over time your crew will increase in rank (green, experienced, hardened, veteran, and finally elite).

2_1

Klingon Academy has the potential to be a great game, but a variety of faults ruin parts of it. It’s truly a shame to see a game that could have excelled end up amidst the majority of games that can’t be universally recommended. There are just too many problems to excuse. One of the boasted features in the game, for instance, is a wide variety of space terrain. Unfortunately, just about all of this detracts from the gameplay experience. Flying inside a gas giant is a horrible experience. Even finding your way out can be incredibly difficult, if you have escorts. Unlike you, they can’t handle the terrain, and they will get themselves killed unless you plod along at an incredibly slow pace. Most of the terrain isn’t much better – asteroid fields are like humongous meat-mashing factories for AI ships.

9_1

Klingon Academy is essentially a long series of ups and downs. It starts off on a good foot, but then it declines and eventually recovers. While the final result is by no means entirely bad, it’s easy to see how it could have been a lot better.

Summary [ ]

The player is put through a theoretical training simulations in what is a war against the Federation , ending in an invasion of the Sol system and getting to track down the USS Enterprise .

After graduating from the academy General Chang calls on you to perform covert operations and also deal with the latest outbreak in civil war among the Klingon Empire , helping to get Gorkon declared Chancellor of the Klingon Empire.

Features Christopher Plummer and David Warner reprising their roles as General Chang and Gorkon in the FMV sequences, and Michael Dorn ( Worf ) playing Colonel Worf 's younger brother, Thok Mak .

Synopsis [ ]

Events take place just before The Undiscovered Country and Khitomer conspiracy in 2291 . The current Klingon chancellor is Lorak , a stable but ailing ruler, content with uneasy peace. Just prior to the events of the game, General Chang defeats a coup attempt in the empire by Kalnor , of the House of G'Iogh .

You play the role of a student of the Klingon Empire 's Elite Command Academy , instructed by General Chang . Chang believes that the Empire's true enemy is the United Federation of Planets , and that war between the two superpowers is inevitable. He instructs students on the strengths and weaknesses of the Federation's political system, it's captains and their starships.

In the event of war, the Klingon Empire plans a massive blitzkrieg offensive across the Federation neutral zone, bypassing obvious targets and striking deep behind Starfleet 's lines. He hopes to drive a wedge between member species of the Federation, by attacking specific species worlds; the Federation's political disunity could then be used to leverage members against each other.

Eventually, after graduating, you participate in a Klingon civil war. Various factions struggle for control of the Klingon Empire 's future policy. Among the characters you meet are the future Chancellors Gorkon and K'mpec , the latter of whom is just a lowly soldier of the empire at this time.

Okay, I've read all the stuff about KA and I want it. When will the game be in the stores so I can get it?

Klingon Academy has been released and is currently available at local retailers or through the Interplay Store.

Is there a playable demo available?

A two mission interactive demo is available as a prequel to the Klingon Academy story. These missions are unique to the demo and are not included with the full version. The demo can be downloaded from:

http://www.interplay.com/klingon/game_downloads.html .

What are the minimum and recommended requirements to play the game?

Minimum Requirements: Pentium II 233mhz CPU, 64MB of RAM, DirectX certified 3D accelerator card w/ 8MB RAM, Windows 95/98, DirectX 7.0, DirectX certified sound card, 12x CD-ROM, 500MB free hard drive space, mouse, keyboard. Multiplayer: 56.6 modem connection minimum. Supports ADSL & Cable modem. 6 players internet, 8 players LAN.

Recommended: Pentium II 450MHz CPU, 128 MB RAM, DirectX certified 3D accelerator card w/ 16MB RAM, Soundblaster Live, joystick. Multiplayer: Cable modem/ADSL internet connection.

I've heard that Christopher Plummer and David Warner reprise their roles as General Chang and Chancellor Gorkon in Klingon Academy, but those characters both died in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country." So, when does Klingon Academy's story take place?

The story of Klingon Academy takes place in the years between "STV: The Final Frontier" & "STVI: The Undiscovered Country".

Will I be able to command the Enterprise-E & fight the Borg with it? Can I defend Deep Space 9 from a Dominion attack? Will those pesky Breen be disabling everyone?

Nothing from "Star Trek: The Next Generation", "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", "Star Trek: Voyager", or the movies "Star Trek: Generations", "Star Trek: First Contact", or "Star Trek: Insurrection" will be in the game. Klingon Academy takes place during the 2290's while the events in the other TV series take place in 2364 or later (Source: Star Trek: Chronology). That's a hefty difference of more than 70 years.

How many ships will Klingon Academy have, and what types?

There are the following:

Klingon: 9 warships, 6 bases/stations.

Romulan: 10 warships.

Federation: 10 warships, 4 bases/stations.

Gorn: 4 warships.

Tholians: 6 warships.

Shakurians: 3 carriers, 2 fighters.

There are also 35 assorted shuttles, workbees, defense satellites, mines, old series style warships, and civilian freighters.

Wow, that's a lot of stuff! How many of those will I get to command in the game?

In the solo-play campaign, you will command 8 of the 9 Klingon warships in the game. For multiplayer and QuickBattle, you have access to all warships within the game as well as the civilian freighters, and other non-combat craft.

What will the music for the game be like? Will you use that Klingon theme from "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" (ST:TMP) and "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" (ST:V)?

There are a couple of points about the music. First, we can't totally work the "Klingon Theme" from ST: TMP / ST: V into the game because we don't have the rights to that particular piece of music. Inon Zur, composer of the music for the game, has developed a theme specifically for Klingon Academy, which is worked in throughout the game. I think you will all be pleased with it. Second, the music from KA stylistically and thematically supports the dark, almost gothic mood of the game and utilizes chorale voices-singing in Klingon-and driven, almost tribal percussion woven throughout. For your own edification, I've included the KA "Discography" of the musical selections we reviewed as stylistically similar to what we want, supporting a similar mood.

Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique - Dies Irae

Doyle: Henry V - Opening and Closing Titles

Eidelman: Star Trek VI - Overture

Captain Kirk once said that a starship could lay waste to an entire planet. That sounds like fun. Can you attack planets in the game and destroy things on their surface?

Planetary bombardment is not only possible, but called for in certain missions. However, planets might have their own set of defenses…

These capital ships are supposed to be big. Are they going zip all over the star system at super speeds and then stop on a dime, or will they move like a big brick?

Ships will certainly move slower than in other space combat sims that have come before. The ships will not maneuver as fast as fighters.

So, what kinds of weapons do these starships carry?

There are twenty weapons systems in the game. We have all the classic weapons you've seen before, like phasers, disruptors, and photon torpedoes, plus we have quite a few new ones. Some of these are variations on classic weapon designs like the dreaded Assault Phaser, while others are radically exotic. For example, the GDDS is a field generator allowing a starship equipped with one to collide with another vessel without incurring the expected catastrophic damage. This is proprietary Gorn technology that they use to great effect when ramming enemy warships.

What about the weapons we've seen before? Are they like what we've seen in the movies and episodes?

Yes. Phasers are continuous beams of energy that fire at a fixed point in space, and stay locked to that position even if the firing warship is moving. Disruptors are bolts of energy; photons are projectiles of intense energy that follow a more-or-less straight trajectory, and the plasma torpedoes are similar to photons but have deadly homing capabilities.

Space is really big, so I'm going have to travel at warp speeds to get anywhere. What will warp travel be like in the game?

There are two kinds of warping in Klingon Academy. First type is out-system warping. This is the kind used for traversing huge interstellar distances and is used exclusively for traveling between star systems (typically, this represents warp factor 2 and above). In every mission, the player is given the run of a complete sector map and can choose what star systems to go to by using out-system warps. The second type of warping is in-system warps (warp factor 1). This type is used exclusively for navigating within a star system. A typical star system in the game is billions of kilometers in volume and may contain a variety of terrain like planets, asteroid belts, nebula, etc. The player may go anywhere within each star system, in real-time, at will. Incidentally, all combat occurs at impulse speeds.

People in Star Trek are always beaming somewhere. Do the ships have transporters? If so, what can you do with them?

Transporters are used solely for transporting boarding parties. Boarding parties are specially trained away teams (or marines, depending upon your race) capable of beaming over to an enemy vessel and either sabotaging critical areas of an enemy vessel, or capturing it outright. The success of a boarding party depends upon a number of factors like: the number of boarding parties you transport to an enemy vessel, the number of defenders the target vessel has (the bigger the ship, the more it will have), and the effective quality of your boarding parties. Also, terrain affects the operation of transporters (a risky proposition inside a nebula). In the game, if you successfully capture a ship with boarding parties, it may be serviceable enough to fight on your side as a wingman, under your control.

The starships are complex, but in a fight I don't have time to mess around. How will the control interface work? During combat, will I have to jump from one bridge station to the next like in SFA?

No one will ever have to jump from bridge station to bridge station during combat unless he wants to. Our principal user interface is what we are calling the Verbal Orders System, or VOS. The VOS is a detailed menu system replicating the functionality found in the bridge station interfaces. The player will never have to take his eyes off the action to issue commands and affect changes aboard his ship. We will also tie voice-over to each of these commands when they are issued. The effect we are trying to produce, is the sense that you are actually issuing orders to your bridge crew, rather than just typing in hot-keys. Also, because of the way we have designed the game, the player is not required to leave his tactical/HUD view unless he wants to.

Kirk was always asking for more power to this, more power to that, and what-have-you. Will I be able to individually set power to the shields, weapons and other systems aboard my ship like that? If so, how do I do it?

Power management plays a big role in the game. The way we are simulating starships, they have a variety of systems ranging from weapons and sensors, all the way to movement and life-support, and the performance of all these is governed by the amount of power allotted to them. Each ship's system has its own unique power/efficiency curve governing its performance, and the player is given full reign to configure these systems however he wants to. With this much control and flexibility, it would be too overwhelming to assume that any sane human being can configure these settings on the fly during combat situations, which is why we've created macros. At any time during gameplay, the player is able to configure his power settings, then save them off as macros. These macros can be called upon at any time (through the function keys, or the verbal orders system), so that his ship's power settings can be reconfigured instantly. This game has a fair amount of complexity, especially power allocation, and for this reason we have paid extra attention to control interface. Even though we are allowing the player full control over his ship, we are not making mastery of this complexity a requirement for enjoying the game. For this reason, the game will ship with default power macros sufficient to carry him through the entire game without ever having to even look at the engineering screen.

Could I cloak my ship and park myself right next to the guy I just shot at, laughing because he doesn't know where I am? On the other hand, could somebody do the same thing to me? Is the cloaking device a complete invisibility shield, or could I somehow detect a cloak ship in a fight?

It is not only possible to detect cloaked vessels, it is possible to fight them. The kind of balance we are trying to achieve is analogous to classic WWII submarine/destroyer duels. In Klingon Academy, cloaking devices are not completely impervious to detection, just as being submerged below the ocean waves was not during World War II. It is possible to detect the presence of a cloaked ship during combat if enough power is allotted to sensors. Detection of a cloaked warship, in the game, is a function of sensor efficiency and range. However, the amount of power necessary for this, relatively speaking is enormous, and you have to be at extremely close range to even get a chance at a good firing solution.

For example, a Federation warship, like the Constitution, would have to divert much of its power to sensors to have a chance at a blip on a cloaked vessel. Under this scenario, the Constitution would not have enough power to maintain full speed movement and still have shields up and all weapons charged; but it would have an indication of the cloaked ship's general location and be able to move toward it. The closer it gets to the cloaked vessel, the more frequent and longer the blips become, allowing the Constitution to narrow down that enemy's position.

If the Constitution manages to maneuver close enough to the cloaked warship (I'm talking about near point blank range), it might get a contact good enough to get a target lock on the cloaked vessel, but it would be weak at best. At this point the Constitution could fire on the cloaked ship, but the weapons fire is still subject to inaccuracies due to the poor target lock. If it misses, the cloaked vessel has lucked out, but if it hits…ouch, no shields. The game's AI is being designed with this hunting dynamic in mind. In the game, expect to see Federation warships hunting in-groups and spreading out as they conduct search patterns-much as what destroyers did in World War II. This interpretation we've made for cloaking devices and their counter-measures may seem a little unorthodox, but it really isn't. It is based on two simple assumptions:

1. Cloaking device technology is not infallible, otherwise the Klingon or Romulan Empires would have annihilated the Federation a long time ago.

2. Cloaking and sensor technologies are in a constant state of evolution and refinement, much as stealth and radar technologies have been during the Cold War in the latter half of the twentieth century. At the time that our game takes place, we will find ourselves at the height of a cold war between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire, which lends support this conclusion.

I've played other space combat games and they've had pretty scenery in the background but you couldn't do anything with it. I've heard that KA has "interactive space terrain". Does that mean I can finally do something with that nebula smeared on the star field or that planet I can never seem to reach?

Interactive Space Terrain is the term we use to refer to things in the game such as nebulae, black holes, asteroid belts, stars, and planets. The game playing environment typically occurs inside star systems. These star systems are true 3D environments that are billions of kilometers in volume, and the player will be able to go anywhere within this space (through the use of in-system warping) at will, in real time. All this space and freedom of movement would be wasted if we didn't find a way to populate it, and that's what we've done with this space terrain.

Each type of terrain will have unique effects on your ship's systems and its performance-especially the more exotic types. Because of this, these different terrain types provide distinct tactical environments that are both advantageous and disadvantageous. The classic example has become something like this: "you are facing multiple opponents in open space and are being beaten badly. You plot a course for the edge of a nearby nebula and engage your warp drive.

Your opponents decide to pursue and warp into the nebula a few moments after you do. Inside the swirling clouds of ionized gases, sensors and visibility are severely hampered and it becomes difficult for multiple aggressors to find you, much less coordinate their attacks against you. You now have the option of either sneaking away undetected, or, if bold enough, picking off your attackers one by one."

So what if I get damaged? Do I just sit there and vent plasma, or can I fix myself up?

Damage control is relatively simple. The player is able to set the priority for what systems get repaired and in what order. The more power you allot to damage control, the faster these repairs occur. However, if damage to an area of your ship is severe enough (like a warp nacelle being blown off, or a hole punched in your hull), it will not be possible to repair that area to 100% during a mission. That kind of damage can only be repaired at base or station in between missions.

All this is great, but what happens when I beat on that Federation Light Cruiser? Does it just blow up eventually or does it rip to shreds before blowing up?

We've spent a lot of time getting the ships to look as close to the movies as we can make them when they incur damage. So, what you will be able to see are ships with holes blown out of their hulls, twisted and mangled decks where the hull has been ruptured, raging fires, and plasma venting into space from mangled warp nacelles.

These big starships can't run themselves. They've got to have a crew. What does my ship's crew affect in the game?

Your ship's crew is very important to the functioning of your ship. Every ship system is manned and controlled by crewmembers. The overall performance of your ship is not just governed by damage and power, but by the experience level and number of the crew. The crew's experience level is determined by the actions of the ship's captain. If a player does well during battle, completes his mission objectives, as well as hidden ones, his crew's morale and experience will increase so that in the next mission he has a better crew that make his ship perform better. If the player is a poor captain, his crew's morale will suffer and the opposite will occur in subsequent missions.

The numbers of the crew is determined in combat. As your ship gets damaged, so does your crew-somebody has to fly over the bridge railing. During battle, crew can be wounded, critically injured, or even killed. Wounded and critically injured crew can be healed during warps between systems, but dead crew can't be brought back.

Will it be possible to kill or execute your own crewmembers?

You could lower your shields and get pounded by enemies. That'd get your crew nice and dead, but it's a pain to complete a mission after that.

I want to take on my friends. How will multiplayer be supported?

Unfortunately we don't have much to say about this at the moment. What I can say is that work is being done on it and we have three programmers devoted to it full-time. We are very hesitant to describe features for it just yet, because there are still substantial uncertainties, and we don't want to make promises we can't keep. As development on this continues and these uncertainties are resolved, more specific information will be made available. What we can say for sure is that there is support for IPX and TCP/IP protocols on Local Area Networks or the Internet. Modem/Serial play is not currently supported.

I'm in a retro mood. Are there any old-series ships in KA? If so, can we fly them?

There are two old series style ships in Klingon Academy--a Constitution Class Cruiser and an Akula Class Destroyer. These ships can be used in multi-player and quick battle. There are no plans to do further old series style ships.

You keep mentioning this Quick Battle. What is it?

Quick Battle is a custom combat scenario generator built into Klingon Academy. It allows you to select starships, assign them as friends or enemies, and select a terrain element to fight in. Once those steps are taken, you fight it out until one side or the other is destroyed. At this time, any manned object in the game can be put into a Quick Battle scenario.

In SFA's multiplayer and Create Mission every ship was a Fed, at least that's what the ship interfaces and the bridge made it look like. Is every ship in KA going have a Klingon interface?

No. Each race has specific graphics for their ship interfaces and the HUD. The graphics stay the same for starship to starship within the same race, so a Bird of Prey and a Sword of Kahless will have the same interfaces since they are both Klingons but an Oberth Class escort with have it's own Federation graphics. The layout of the buttons and displays remains constant for all races, that way you can jump from a Fed to a Klingon to a Romulan without having to learn the interfaces all over again.

Klingon Academy vs. Starfleet Command

I’m a longtime KA player and absolutely loved it- still one of my all-time favorites. Recently in these days of everything being on GOG/Steam etc., I’ve gotten interested in Starfleet Command, which I missed back in the day. I am trying to figure out if my hyper limited time these days is best spent replaying KA or playing SFC. Anybody play both and able to comment on the differences in depth between the two? The thing that always hung me up about SFC was that it basically looked like basically a version of KA in 2 dimensions, which didn’t seem very compelling. Anybody play both back in the day who’s able to compare the two? Really looking for someone experienced with both rather than just one.

I have played KA a couple of times and I loved it, infortunately I can't play it anymore on my Pc. You still can? I have played a couple of hours SFC but it wasn't my kind of games, and it didn't work propably so I gave it up

I love Starfleet Command. Keep in mind that, conceptually, it's sort of a computerized implementation of the classic "Star Fleet Battles" tabletop wargame from the 1970s. This is indescribably awesome because it lets you play this type of game without having to memorize 400 pages of rules, as all the necessary mechanics are built into the gameplay in a way that's pretty intuitive and doesn't have a steep learning curve. The overall structure of the game is pretty free-form. You expand territory one hexagon at a time by winning battles, or protecting a ship, or capturing something, and you can command multiple ships in a single mission. Sometimes there are special storylines as well. I found Klingon Academy to be more narrative-driven, as the missions move you forward in a particular pre-determined story. That's cool and all, but personally I prefer SFC because I spent half my life wanting to play SFB but I never could because you have to travel halfway across the country just to find somebody who even knows what it is! KA is the better game. Amazing cut scenes with high quality video of Chris Plummer and David Warner reprising their roles from TUC, plus amazing battle damage effects and an exciting skirmish mode makes this a top favourite. The mods were pretty exciting too. The interface of SFC was clunky in comparison, with no story driven plot.

SFC was more based on the pencil and paper board game, KA was a sequel to Starfleet academy, so a fmv spacy arcade flight shooting game as apposed to the dice throwing role playing board game that SFC was based on.....but two completely different gameplay style of games. Oh and you can buy the SFC series from GOG and they work perfectly on W8/10.

Somewhat related/unrelated, are there still people who play Starfleet Academy? Been thinking of playing it again but I remember not being fond of the controls. I really wish a couple of pre 2000 titles got remakes with new graphics and perhaps some control changes.

An emulator for an older OS, like Windows 98. Or try to find an updated patch fix that works for Windows 10. There was one that worked for Windows 7, but I don't know if it works still (five years old).

Haggis and tatties said: Do you know how long it took me to find my copy of KA to get this working. lol Ok here is how you get it running.... Install KA from your disc.....then sit through the unskippable movie. Go to the nice people at Trekcore and grab patch v1.02UK and http://www.gaming.trekcore.com/klingonacademy/downloads.html Now unzip that patch, then unzip it a second time. Now take all the folders you can see and drag them into your KA install folder, they will ask to overwrite, say YES. Now go here and grab the first patch on the page.... http://jiridvorak.webpark.cz/ka/ Now unzip that file and drag it into your KA install folder.....now run the patch, it should say "successful" when done. Now click on your KA folder and double click KA luncher...now click set and allow the game to run through all the screen res......it will take a few moments. Now pick your screen res, then click run game.....you may have bother with the disc swapping so it might be a good idea to take your 6 cd roms and make on DVD copy of the game, and that way you will never have to swap discs again.....Trek core again has the programe here to turn your CD version into on single disc DVD version. http://gaming.trekcore.com/klingonacademy/dvd-howto.html And with that my work here is done. I played both and preferred KA but mainly the skirmishes in Federation ships. I loved flying in to nebula and atmosphere adjusting shield power and hull repair to escape enemy ships just like in the TV series. Or flying in to a planets atmosphere so that powerful enemy ships which follow you would start breaking up. Love the tactics using the in game environments - I don't think any other game has replicated this since?

Klingon Academy is a great supplement to THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY and really expands on both Chang as well as Gorkon. I happily consider it part of my personal Star Trek canon.

Star Trek’s Next Show Is So Hot, Actors Are Begging To Be Cast In It

Resident alien season 4 will reverse the best part of season 1 after major change, fallout season 2's setup could finally force a major missing faction out of hiding.

  • Star Trek: Starfleet Academy offers a chance to bring back underrated Discovery characters Keyla Detmer and Joann Owosekun.
  • The show's setting allows for character development and mentorship opportunities for Detmer and Owosekun.
  • Discovery left untapped potential for Detmer and Owosekun's character development, which Starfleet Academy could remedy.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is the perfect chance to bring back Keyla Detmer (Emily Coutts) and Joann Owosekun (Oyin Oladejo), two of Star Trek: Discovery 's most underrated characters. Discovery 's series finale premiered in May 2024, rounding out its impressive run with an action-packed 10 episodes. Although the finale tied up loose ends, certain characters, like Detmer and Owosekun, were conspicuously absent from the rest of the season , due in part to Discovery 's unexpected cancelation after much of season 5 was filmed.

Although the lack of Detmer, Owosekun, and other characters like Saru (Doug Jones) was disappointing in Discovery season 5, the Star Trek franchise has a chance to right these wrongs with the upcoming Star Trek: Starfleet Academy . Set in the 32nd century, Starfleet Academy will follow a cast of cadets at the eponymous school, featuring new faces and equally new threats . Not much is known yet about Starfleet Academy , but some tantalizing casting details like Holly Hunter and Paul Giamatti have already been released, and the show's setting is the perfect opportunity to bring back several characters from Discovery cast .

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy casting A-listers like Holly Hunter and Paul Giamatti has other actors clamoring to join the next Star Trek series.

Detmer & Owosekun Are Perfect For Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

Starfleet academy needs more star trek: discovery characters.

If Starfleet Academy is going to act as the spiritual successor to Discovery , the show would do well to bring back Detmer and Owosekun as part of its main cast. It has been all but confirmed that Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) will be returning to her role as instructor at the Academy, and Discovery season 5 teased that Tilly is hoping to start a mentor program, pairing cadets with experienced officers in the hopes that it will boost student enrollment and retention. If this plan comes to fruition in Starfleet Academy season 1, Detmer and Owosekun are prime mentor candidates.

Detmer and Owosekun never achieved the full narrative potential that Discovery teased for them, but Starfleet Academy is another chance for both characters to be fully fleshed out.

During their time on Discovery , Detmer and Owosekun proved that they are both excellent officers with a lot to offer in their given fields. However, Discovery also often sidelines the two characters and the other members of the USS Discovery's bridge crew in favor of focusing on Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) . Detmer and Owosekun never achieved the full narrative potential that Discovery teased for them, but Starfleet Academy is another chance for both characters to be fully fleshed out. Detmer and Owosekun would excel as part of Starfleet Academy 's main cast given how Discovery already set up them up.

What Star Trek: Discovery Revealed About Detmer & Owosekun So Far

Discovery left detmer and owo's future wide-open.

Despite less fleshed-out backstories compared to some characters, Discovery revealed a fair amount about Detmer and Owosekun during its five-season run. Detmer's defining characteristic was her exceptional piloting skills, while Owosekun demonstrated that she was top-level Opperations officer during her time on the bridge. Discovery also showed glimpses of both women's personal lives, including their close friendship with each other . Season 3 provided the show's most well-rounded storylines for Detmer and Owosekun, but both characters generally played small but important roles in other seasons.

However, Discovery left enormous potential untapped for Detmer and Owosekun's character development, something that Starfleet Academy could remedy. Given that Discovery already had replacements for both women on the bridge in season 5, the two could end up being entirely free to be part of Tilly's mentor program, a storyline that would help expand on their professional achievements and personal goals . Including Detmer and Owosekun in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy would also help carrying on Discovery 's legacy in Star Trek , something that is needed after the show's final season.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

After being closed for over a hundred years, Starfleet Academy is reopening its doors to those who wish to pursue a career as Starfleet Officers. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will follow a new group of cadets as they come of age, and build friendships, rivalries, and romantic relationships while being threatened by a new adversary that could destroy the Academy and the Federation itself.

Klingon Academy was published by Interplay I believe, and I think it was stated that all Star Trek games published by Interplay will eventually be re-released. It might take some time though as they have to be fixed and/or made compatable with newer OS's, which Star Trek games tend to always need. So it might show up at some point, there is a ...

    2. Try asking the Romulans. Here's the thing. Star Trek is a vast franchise of many musical, actor, character and even lore licences. Chances are, one of those wasn't cleared. A few older Star Trek games are now on GOG, but Klingon Academy isn't one of them. Anyway, Klingon Academy might be my favourite Star Trek game of all time. Klingon Academy was a really good game. KA is my favorite Trek game of all time, if you haven't played it, it plays a lot like the old X-Wing/X-Wing Alliance games, it has joystick support which is pretty rare for Trek games. It also has way more buttons and sliders to control your ship than Bridge Commander does.

This is more of a tactical simulator than KA. KA is more simulating piloting a Klingon ship. 23. I want to see a modern take on Bridge Commander or Klingon Academy

Bridge Commander and Klingon Academy are excellent examples of early 2000s Trek games. They each play a bit differently but both games excel at having fun gameplay around directly controlling ships. KA was focused more around playing with a Joystick while BC was more mouse/keyboard. I would love for a successor to have both options.
